TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Supreme Court ruled Friday that results from warrantless blood tests were admissible in two cases of driving under the influence, even though the statute that had authorized them was later found to be unconstitutional.

In separate decisions, the state’s highest court said the “good faith exception” allows admission of unlawfully obtained evidence if the arresting officer had no reason to think the statute he had relied on would be declared unconstitutional after the arrest.

The court upheld the conviction for driving under the influence in the case of Ronald S. Ary, who was arrested following a 2014 crash in Kingman, Kansas. It also up upheld the conviction of Trenton Michael Heim following a 2015 vehicle accident.

No search warrant for the blood test was obtained in either case, and the same attorney which separately represented them presented identical arguments about whether the good-faith exception applies.

In each case, the court said that the officer was merely fulfilling his responsibility to enforce the statutes when he informed them that the state could charge them with a separate crime for refusing to submit to a blood test.

Kan. upholds 2 DUI convictions using warrantless blood tests

SALINE COUNTY ——Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect after a pursuit through part of south Salina.

Just after 10a.m. Thursday police were sent to the 2700 block of South Ninth Street in Salina for the report of a suspected intoxicated driver who was operating a white 2017 Ford F-150, according to&nbsp;Salina Police Captain Gary Hanus.

A vehicle pursuit was initiated by a Saline County Sheriff’s Office employee prior to police personnel arriving in the area. Police officers took over the pursuit in the area of Centennial Road and Sunflower Drive.

&nbsp;The driver, later identified as&nbsp;James Batterton, 61, Wichita, failed to stop for a traffic control device, exceeding the posted speed limit, and crossing the center line of the roadway. During the pursuit, a vehicle tire-deflating device was deployed to deflate one of the pickup’s tires.

The pickup did come to a stop in the 2600 block of Centennial Road, however, the operator of the vehicle refused to exit the vehicle during the high risk traffic stop, according to Hanus. A police canine was deployed and pulled the driver from the vehicle.

EMS transported Batterton to Salina Regional Health Center and treated for lacerations. He was then arrested on the requested charges that include Driving while under the influence, Fleeing/attempt to elude, Speeding, Traffic control device violation, Transporting an open container and Interference.

Police K9 pulls Kansas man from pickup after chase

Geary County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Geary Community Hospital at 7:08 a.m. Thursday to the report of a woman who had been shot and raped in the 9700 block of Quarry Rd. Deputies responded and secured the residence where the incident allegedly took place on Quarry Rd.

A Junction City Police Officer observed a subject matching the description of the suspect at a residence in the 100 block of East 10th St. Geary County Deputies and Junction City Officers surrounded the residence. Contact was established with the subject and he was taken into custody without incident at 9:30 a.m.

The suspect was identified as Darien Manning of Milford. KS. Manning was arrested on requested charges of Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Kidnapping, Rape and Violation of a Protect Order.

deposit of $1200 from the COVID-19 Treasury Fund. Continue here to 
accept this payment followed by a link to click.&nbsp;&nbsp;

IRS 
Spokesperson&nbsp;Alejandra Castro&nbsp;says when you click on the link, it 
connects you to a fraudulent website that looks a lot like the real 
I-R-S dot gov and asks you to fill out the form with your name, social 
security number, bank routing number, and bank account number. Castro 
says if you receive this text, the IRS is asking you to take these next 
steps.&nbsp;

“What you should do if you receive this text scam, you should take a screenshot of the message you received, and send it to&nbsp;<a href="mailto:phishing@irs.gov" target="_blank">phishing@irs.gov</a>&nbsp;with
 the following information: the date, time, the time they received the 
text message, and the number that appears on the caller I.D.,” explained
 Castro.&nbsp;

Castro says there has been a dramatic increase in scams 
and cybercrimes this year due to the pandemic that revolve around the 
IRS.&nbsp;

“We do not send unsolicited texts or emails. The IRS does 
not call people with the threat of jail, lawsuits, or that are 
back-taxes owed on gift cards. We do not call taxpayers at home and 
demand payments immediately or they will be arrested. Please be on the 
lookout because it’s easy to fall for these scams because they appear to
 be so legitimate. But I think if taxpayers have the information then 
they are a step ahead and won’t fall victims to these scams.”&nbsp;

IRS warns of new scam regarding stimulus payment 

KANSAS CITY (AP) — A man was shot to death inside an apartment at the southern end of Kansas City, according to police.

Officers were called around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday to Timber Lakes Apartment Homes for reports of a shooting, police said in a news release. Arriving officers found a man with gunshot wounds inside one of the units, police said. The man was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he later died, officials said.

The victim’s name had not been released by Thursday morning. Police said detectives questioned people at the scene at the time of the shooting and were not looking for additional suspects.

Police did not immediately report whether any arrests had been made or what may have led to the shooting.

Police: Man shot to death inside Kansas City apartment

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A man charged with killing a Missouri police officer in August waived arraignment and pleaded not guilty on Wednesday.

Thomas Kinworthy, of Owensville, appeared in court via video conference Wednesday, where his attorney entered the not guilty plea for him.

Kinworthy was indicted by a grand jury on 10 charges including first-degree murder in the death of 29-year-old Officer Tamarris Bohannon.

Bohannon and other officers responded to a call on Aug. 29 after an armed man ordered a family out of their south St. Louis home and barricaded himself inside. Bohannon was shot in the head and a second officer was struck in the leg, police said.

Suspect in Missouri officer's murder pleads not guilty

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating an armed robbery have a suspect in custody.

Just before 8:30 p.m. Nov. 15, officers responded to an armed robbery call at the Dollar General, 4549 E. Pawnee in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.

&nbsp;A store employee told&nbsp; police a suspect entered the store armed with a machete and demanded money.&nbsp; The suspect later identified as 20-year-old Davion Holloman took cash and then fled the store on foot.&nbsp; No one was injured.

Through the investigation and after using social media to ask for help to identify the suspect, police learned of Holloman being involved in the robbery.&nbsp; 

On Tuesday evening, officers contacted him in the 5500 block of East Harry in Wichita. Police arrested him after a brief foot pursuit.

&nbsp;Holloman is being held on requested charges of aggravated robbery, obstruct, and a warrant through the Kansas Department of Corrections, according to Davidson.

&nbsp;Holloman was previously convicted on a felony charge and was on parole with KDOC. Investigators are also working to see if Holloman was involved in any other recent robberies.

Police catch Kan. man who used machete during robbery 

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The parents of a Kansas City man who died in a 2016 shooting have been awarded $4 million in a wrongful death lawsuit against a man who trafficked in firearms, as well as a gun dealer and manufacturer.

Court documents say one of the firearms dealt by James Samuels, a former Kansas City fire captain, was used to kill Alvino Dwight Crawford Jr. in July 2016, The Kansas City Star&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article247245864.html">reported</a>.

Crawford's parents, Alvino and Beverly Crawford, filed the wrongful death lawsuit in July 2019 against Samuels, Jimenez Arms and Green Tip Arms.

The lawsuit alleged that Green Tip Arms should have known Samuels, a frequent customer, was an unlicensed gun dealer. They also accused Jimenez Arms, which manufactured the gun, of aiding and abetting the gun trafficking ring.

Samuels&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/9edb1bfc87af5cbd53240dd44203cf21">pleaded guilty</a>&nbsp;in August to illegally selling dozens of firearms.

Green Tip Arm&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/58d0c5646c1aadf7f4dcda73a7bfc804">reached&nbsp;</a>a settlement in February that required the company to close and give up its federal firearms license. Jimenez Arms has filed for bankruptcy.

Kansas City couple wins $4M in wrongful death lawsuit

BARTON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man on drug distribution charges following a traffic stop.

Just after 6:30p.m. Monday, sheriff’s deputies stopped a green 1997 Chevrolet Suburban on Santa Fe Street in Ellinwood for speeding, according to Sheriff Brian Belendir.

During the course the traffic stop the Barton County Sheriff’s office K9 was called to the scene. The canine indicated the presence of controlled substances. Further investigation revealed approximately 3/10 of a pound of suspected methamphetamine. Deputies also located Marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Wayne H Hunter Jr., 57 of Geneseo, Kansas. During the arrest, deputies found a 9 mm handgun&nbsp; on his person. Further investigation indicates the methamphetamine was to be delivered in Barton County.

Hunter is being held on a requested charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, criminal use of firearms and possession of drug paraphernalia. He’s being held in lieu of a $300,000 bond.

Sheriff: Kan. man caught speeding to meth delivery

Beginning Friday, November 20, through Sunday, Nov 29 the Junction City Police Department will join many other law enforcement agencies across the state, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, in the Kansas Thanksgiving Safe Arrival traffic enforcement campaign. A grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will support overtime enforcement efforts. While all Kansas Traffic Laws will be enforced, this extra provision will be aggressively targeting and removing impaired drivers from our roads.

According to KDOT, the day before Thanksgiving sees more impairment-related crashes than any other day of the year. Those who choose to drive under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, are a danger to all they share the road with–their passengers, other motorists and their passengers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Impaired driving crashes tend to be more severe. On average, across Kansas, three persons are injured every day, and one person is killed every four days in alcohol/drug-related crashes. Vehicle occupants in alcohol- or other drug-related crashes are over 2 ½ times more likely to be injured or killed than those involved in crashes where alcohol or other drugs were not a factor.

Each week across Kansas, over 250 drivers are arrested for choosing to drive impaired

(Driving Under the Influence). A DUI conviction will result in jail time, the suspension or revocation of driver’s license, a fine of $500 to $2,500, participation in an alcohol or other drug treatment program and, where alcohol is cited as a contributing factor, the purchase and installation of an ignition interlock device by the offender. This device prevents the vehicle from starting if alcohol is present in the driver’s breath. All of this is in addition to thousands of dollars more for bail, court costs, and attorney fees.

A grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will support overtime enforcement efforts. While all Kansas Traffic Laws will be enforced, this extra provision will be aggressively targeting and removing impaired drivers from our roads.According to KDOT, the day before Thanksgiving sees more impairment-related crashes than any other day of the year. Those who choose to drive under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, are a danger to all they share the road with–their passengers, other motorists and their passengers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Impaired driving crashes tend to be more severe. On average, across Kansas, three persons are injured every day, and one person is killed every four days in alcohol/drug-related crashes. Vehicle occupants in alcohol- or other drug-related crashes are over 2 ½ times more likely to be injured or killed than those involved in crashes where alcohol or other drugs were not a factor.Each week across Kansas, over 250 drivers are arrested for choosing to drive impaired(Driving Under the Influence). A DUI conviction will result in jail time, the suspension or revocation of driver’s license, a fine of $500 to $2,500, participation in an alcohol or other drug treatment program and, where alcohol is cited as a contributing factor, the purchase and installation of an ignition interlock device by the offender. This device prevents the vehicle from starting if alcohol is present in the driver’s breath. All of this is in addition to thousands of dollars more for bail, court costs, and attorney fees.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a criminal homicide that fatally injured a man and have a suspect in custody.

Just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a stabbing at a home in the 2800 block of South Washington in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.&nbsp;

Upon arrival, officer’s located the victim identified as 59-year-old Bryan Turner with multiple cut and stab wounds to his body.&nbsp; Officers quickly began life-saving measures, but he succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

The investigation revealed that multiple people were at the home, and Turner and a suspect identified as 34-year-old Kenneth Junious, Jr. were both visiting.  While at the home, a disturbance ensued between Junious and the Turner. 

 During the disturbance, Junious pulled out a knife and caused multiple injuries to the Turner. Junious then fled the scene in a vehicle.&nbsp; Police reported his arrest on Monday afternoon.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Junious has numerous previous felony convictions that include aggravated battery, aggravated escape from custody, theft, criminal possession of a weapon, theft, flee and attempt to elude and and was currently on parole through Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

He was booked<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=23938"> into the Sedgwick Jail </a>just before 1p.m. Monday and is being held on a requested charge of 1st-degree murder and a warrant through the Kansas Department of Correction.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

Wanted Kansas felon jailed for fatal stabbing

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A white supremacist who told an undercover FBI agent about his plans to firebomb a synagogue or attack a Las Vegas bar catering to LGBTQ customers was sentenced Friday to two years in prison.

Conor Climo, 24, apologized before U.S. District Judge James Mahan sentenced him to prison followed by six months of home confinement with electronic monitoring. Prosecutors recommended a 30-month prison sentence.

“I was truly wrong for all of this,” Climo said. “I even have come to really regret everything, everything that I was involved with.”

The judge gave Climo credit for the jail time he already has served since his August 2019 arrest and agreed to recommend that he serves his prison time in Louisiana, near grandparents whom he plans to live with after his release.

“I’m going to take you at your word,” Mahan told Climo. “I think you have seen the error of your ways and you want to reform.”

Defense attorney Paul Riddle said his client is grateful that FBI agents arrested him when they did because he knows that he was on a “very dark path.”

“But he’s not on that path anymore, and he’s the not same person that was arrested,” Riddle said.

The FBI said it began investigating Climo in April 2019 after learning of his encrypted internet chats with members of Feuerkrieg Division, an international offshoot of a U.S.-based neo-Nazi group called Atomwaffen Division. Climo told FBI agents that he joined Feuerkrieg Division but left because he “became bored with the group and their inaction,” according to a court filing.

Climo, in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/056c0c1f14716fb8093ec290314a7926">pleading guilty&nbsp;</a>to a firearm charge, acknowledged that he discussed attacking a synagogue or other targets during his online communications with an undercover FBI agent and an informant. Agents who searched Climo’s Las Vegas home found bomb components and two rifles.

Climo was “not just talking about what he believes and intends to do, but rather is planning, and has engaged in actions,” a federal magistrate judge wrote after Climo’s arrest.

Atomwaffen has been linked to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/406c0b0b8bb04d06a774443cef2294ec">several killings</a>, including the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/222eaf9f330e4cdf812634f0baf3d5ca">May 2017 shooting deaths</a>&nbsp;of two men at an apartment in Tampa, Florida. Atomwaffen co-founder Devon Arthurs, who was charged with killing two of his roommates in the apartment, told police they were group members and that he killed them to thwart a terrorist attack.

Federal authorities have arrested several men linked to white supremacist groups promoting&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/6a19ebcf35353bb4e5644a2ee77bc83c">“accelerationism,”</a>&nbsp;a fringe philosophy espousing mass violence to fuel society’s collapse. Members of a neo-Nazi group called The Base were arrested in January ahead of a gun rights rally in Virginia. Several Atomwaffen members were&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/280a6f365dda116a8cbf53be3570c84a">charged in February&nbsp;</a>with conspiring to harass journalists, church congregations and a former Cabinet official.

Climo pleaded guilty in February to illegal possession of an unregistered firearm, a charge that carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.

During an FBI interview, Climo described his white supremacist ideology and expressed his hatred of Jews, African Americans and gay people, authorities said.

Climo told an FBI informant that he tried but failed to recruit a homeless person to conduct surveillance on a synagogue in October 2017, according to a court filing.

“The defendant had very specific plans about attacking one specific synagogue near his house,” U.S. Magistrate Judge Nancy Koppe wrote in an order last year. “The defendant spoke of wanting to light an incendiary device and having others join him to shoot people as they came out of the synagogue.”

Investigators said Climo compiled a journal with sketches of gunmen attacking a LGBTQ bar in a downtown tourist corridor. His list of potential targets also included a fast food restaurant and a Las Vegas office for the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish civil rights group, authorities said.

The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounders/feuerkrieg-division-fkd" target="_blank">ADL describes Feuerkrieg Division&nbsp;</a>as a group that has advocated for a race war and promoted some of the most extreme views of the white supremacist movement. Formed in 2018, it had roughly 30 members who conducted most of their activities online, the ADL said.

Another man linked to Feuerkrieg Division,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/03e8abbd2a0a7c6d7f91113afafc508a">former soldier Jarrett William Smith</a>, was sentenced in August to 2 1/2 years in prison for distributing information about building a bomb and making napalm to an undercover FBI agent while he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Climo, a former security guard, came to the attention of authorities in September 2016 when he was interviewed by a local television news crew as he wore military-style battle gear and patrolled his neighborhood carrying an assault rifle, survival knife and extended-capacity ammunition magazines. Man linked to Fort Riley soldier sentenced in bomb plot case

HEDVILLE — Law enforcement authorities are investigation two suspects from Minnesota after they allegedly attempted to steal car ramps from a rural Saline County residence.

On Saturday, deputies were sent to the 100 block of West Pennsylvania Street in Hedville, an unincorported community in northern Saline County, for the report of attempted theft. A witness reported that two people in a gray pickup had attempted to steal car ramps, but left the area before taking the ramps, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan.

Deputies located the pickup on North Hedville Road near Interstate 70 with two occupants, Dennis Murray, 38, Mankato, Minnesota and Amber Jacobsen, 35, Eagle Park, Minnesota.

The pickup, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado valued at $10,000, was taken for a test drive several days prior and never returned to HG Auto in South Sioux City, Nebraska, according to Soldan.

Deputies also found methamphetamine in the pickup.

Deputies arrested Murray on requested charges of Possession of stolen property, Possession of methamphetamine, Driving while suspended and Attempted theft.

Deputies arrested Jacobsen on requested charges that included Possession of stolen property, Possession of methamphetamine and Driving while suspended.

The suspects will face additional charges in Nebraska.

On Saturday, police filed a report for&nbsp;theft at Best Buy in the 300 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. in Manhattan a 32-year-old woman stole a blue JBL Flip 5 speaker. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $90.00.

&nbsp;At Dillards in the 100 block of Manhattan Town Center in Manhattan, the store reported a a 32-year-old woman stole Dolce &amp; Gabbana perfume. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $98.00.

&nbsp;Victoria's Secret at manhattan Town Center reported a 32-year-old woman stole miscellaneous clothing items. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $709.00.

&nbsp;Hibbett Sports reported a 32-year-old woman stole miscellaneous clothing items. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $320.00.

JC Pennys reported the same suspect stole Nike clothing items and jewelry. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $609.00.

&nbsp;Ulta Beauty reported the suspect stole miscellaneous makeup items. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $418.00.

Police have not reported an arrest or responded to a request for information on the investigation.

Leroy Sabrion Gunter, 18, Wichita, was charged with&nbsp;with 1st degree murder, aggravated robbery, criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and aggravated assault, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

According to the Sedgwick County booking report, police arrested and booked Leroy Sabrion Gunter, 18, into the county jail just after&nbsp; 6:30p.m. Tuesday in connection with the shooting death of 21-year-old Christopher Bell of Wichita.

Just after 4p.m. Monday, police responded to a shooting at a residence in the 900 block of North Ridgewood in Wichita, according to officer Paul Cruz.

 Upon their arrival, officers learned that 21-year-old Christopher Bell had been transported to an area hospital by private vehicle where he later died from his injuries.

The investigation revealed Bell was inside of the residence when a disturbance ensued involving Gunter. During the disturbance, Gunter fired multiple shots, striking Bell. Other individuals were inside of the residence but were not injured.&nbsp;

Gunter's next court appearance is scheduled for November 25. He is being held on $200,000 bond, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney.

Teen charged for fatal shooting at Kansas home

KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Two Kansas men have been charged in federal court in Kansas City with offering to kill a man for $10,000 and make it look like robbery, according to U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister.

Miguel A. Pizarro, 20, and&nbsp;Brian Pizarro, 19, both of Kansas City, Kan., are charged with traveling from Kansas to Missouri for the purpose of carrying out a contract killing.

&nbsp;According to an affidavit by a member of an Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives task force, the Pizarro brothers planned to shoot the victim from a distance with an AR-15 rifle and then steal the victim’s billfold. The murder never happened because what the defendants did not know is they were dealing with an undercover sting operation carried out by federal agents and a detective from the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department who was assigned to an ATF task force.

“These allegations are deeply disturbing,” U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said. “The price of a man’s life is set at $10,000. A would-be hitman offers a description of a previous killing as his credentials for the job. The defendants don’t even ask why the victim is to be killed.”

James Ferguson, Acting Special Agent in Charge, ATF Kansas City Field Division, said: “This case embodies ATF’s core mission of holding armed, violent criminals accountable for their actions.&nbsp;Investigations such as this one are making our communities safer places to live, work and play.”

&nbsp;In documents filed in federal court, prosecutors allege the investigation began in Kansas City, Kan., in June 2020 with a series of meetings arranged by the Pizarro brothers during which undercover investigators were able to buy guns, including a .40-caliber Glock pistol, a Smith and Wesson .45-caliber pistol, an HS Produkt .45-caliber pistol and a Glock 9 mm pistol. During one of the transactions, Miguel Pizarro said one of the guns he was selling was “dirty.” In subsequent meetings with an undercover agent, the Pizarro brothers admitted their involvement in two separate Kansas City, Kansas homicides.

The ATF conducted ballistic testing and matched shell casings from a homicide with one of the guns they bought from the Pizarros.

During a subsequent conversation, the undercover agent asked Miguel Pizarro if he had someone he trusted for a possible job. Pizarro said he trusted his brother. Brian Pizarro was known to police in Kansas City, Kan., as an F-13 gang member. The ATF undercover told both Pizarros that he needed someone to perform an execution and make it look like a robbery. The Pizarros said they were the ones for the job.

&nbsp;The undercover agent told the Pizarros that the murder was to be carried out in Springfield, Mo. The Pizarros said they would charge $10,000 for the two of them to do the killing, or $15,000 if they had to bring along a third person.

On Nov. 4, 2020, the undercover officer met in his car with the Pizarros. He gave Brian Pizarro $800 as a down payment. The Pizarros said they would drive a stolen to car to Springfield and would expect the rest of the payment after the murder.

&nbsp;On Nov. 9, 2020, the Pizarro brothers were arrested in Springfield after arriving there armed to carry out the murder.

&nbsp; If convicted, the defendants could face up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.&nbsp;

Federal charge: For $10K Kan. murder would look like robbery

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities have completed a drug investigation and have a suspect in custody.

&nbsp;On November 12, members of the Topeka Police Department Narcotics Unit and the Shawnee County Drug Task Force served a search warrant in the 3700 Block of SW Topeka Blvd., according to Lt. Jerry Monasmith.

While conducting the search warrant, investigators learned 40-year-old Charles Handley of Topeka had methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm.

Officers transported Handley to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Distribution of methamphetamin, Possession of drug paraphernalia with intent and&nbsp;Criminal use of a weapon, according to Monasmith.

Drug task force makes arrest at Kansas home

TOPEKA, KAN. – A man who was arrested on a city bus pleaded guilty to robbing a Topeka bank, according to U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister.

Clinton Adam Richards, 38, Topeka, pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery. Police responded to a robbery at U.S. Bank, 3600 SW Topeka Boulevard. A tall, bald man carrying a backpack approached a teller, demanded money and left the bank with the cash. A witness reported seeing the robber board a Topeka Metro bus at a bus stop near the bank. Police stopped the bus and arrested Richards.

Sentencing is set for Feb. 16, 2021. He could face up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.&nbsp;

Man took city bus after Kansas bank robbery

FINNEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a series of burglaries and have made two arrests.

On Friday, police reported they located&nbsp;Raymon Herrera, 24, Garden City, in the parking lot of Western Motors, 309 E Fulton Street, according to&nbsp;Sergeant Lana Urteaga. Herrera was arrested on requested charges of Burglary.

Police also reported the arrest of Ernest Virgil Whisler, 35, Garden City in connection with four auto burglaries in Garden City.&nbsp;Whisler is still in custody, according to online jail records.

Affidavits requesting the charge of Burglary for each incident have been forwarded to the Finney County Attorney’s Office for review, according to Urteaga.&nbsp;

During this investigation, new information has come to light surrounding the evening of Brooks’ death. Based upon interviews of individuals who had not previously spoken with investigators, the FBI has learned there was another party, the same evening, a relatively short distance away from the party Brooks attended. Through interviews, investigators have learned that a confrontation occurred at the nearby party, and many of the attendees left that gathering and joined the party at the farmhouse where Brooks was present.

His body was later discovered in Middle Creek, adjacent to the farmhouse, on May 1, 2004.

The $100,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest, prosecution, and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for Brooks’ death. FBI learns new details in Kansas cold case murder

JAY, Okla. (AP) — A northeast Oklahoma man accused of filming a woman's death after injecting her with methamphetamine has died in custody, authorities said.

Brian Edward Anderson, 51, of Disney, was taken to a hospital in Grove, near the border with Arkansas and Missouri, where he died early Wednesday, authorities said. He was being held at the Delaware County Jail.

Jail staff had called paramedics to say he was suffering a medical episode, and he was taken to the hospital.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation of his death. The state Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine how he died.

Anderson was facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of Melissa Vermillion, 41, for&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/64e022ead5584263b7d8c9775ed4fa57">allegedly injecting her</a>&nbsp;with meth and recording her death.

His wife, Allie Beth Anderson, 43, is also charged with first-degree murder in Vermillion's death.

Authorities believe Vermillion was injected to prevent her from testifying about the Andersons' alleged criminal activity, according to an arrest affidavit. Allie Anderson remains in custody in Delaware County.

Suspect charged in filming woman's death has died in jail

GREAT BEND – A Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 100 years in connection with the July 2018 deaths of Alfred “Sonny” Carpenter and Pauline Carpenter, both of Wichita, at the Barton County Fair, according to Attorney General Derek Schmidt.

Rusty Lee Frasier, 37, of Aransas Pass, Texas, was sentenced Thursday afternoon in Barton County District Court by District Court Judge Mike Keeley. Frasier was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for 50 years on each of two counts of first-degree murder. The sentences are to run consecutively.

Judge Keeley also sentenced Christine M. Tenney, 40, of La Marque, Texas, to 59 months in prison for aggravated robbery and eight months for obstructing apprehension for her role in the deaths. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Michael Fowler, Jr., 56, of Sarasota, Florida, was previously sentenced by Judge Keeley to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 100 years in connection with the Carpenters’ deaths.

Police learned that Fowler shot the Carpenters at the Barton County Fair in Great Bend. Investigators say he told police he killed the couple after receiving text messages from someone named Frank Zaitchik, a man he believed to be a member of a “carnival mafia.” Police said they later discovered the text messages were sent by Younger.

Younger, Fowler, Frasier and Tenney were arrested in Van Buren, Arkansas, on July 19 after a Tenney’s relative called local police to report she was being held against her will. The homicide investigation unfolded from there.
