Dona A. Small was born 12/2/37 and was a lifelong resident of Junction City.&nbsp; She was married to Herbert Small on 12/7/1957. Dona was a proud member of the Epsilon Signa Alpha MAL Kansas Chapter Sorority. She was very active in the Elks and the Junction City Country Club. Dona liked to play golf and enjoyed life in general before a chronic pain disease stopped her from doing that. She had so many talents, i.e. hairdresser, floral arrangements, seamstress, interior decorating, cooking and entertaining. Dona collected Santa's that were present in her living room year round. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She was truly the Queen of Christmas. She spent the last 10 years of her life, along with her husband Herb for the last 2 years, with a group of wonderful people (staff and residents) at Stoneybrook Nursing Home.

Dona was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Gormley, her mother, Lillian Smith, her sister, Florence Ellis, her brothers Raymond and Edward (Eddie) Gormley, and her grandson, Anthony M. Small. She is survived by her husband, Herbert Small, daughter, Rebecca Small, son Bob and Lynn (wife) Small, grandchildren, Jacob and Amanda (wife) Small, Christina and Craig (husband) Swisher, and Patricia Pratzel, great grandchildren, Jasmine Pratzel, Anthony M. Small, Jr. (AJ), Chyla Swisher and Addison Small. Her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends are far too many to mention.

Steven Ray Conrow, 69, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on May 1, 2024, at The University of Kansas Hospital.

He was born on July 12, 1954, to Jerald and Mary (Lehner) Conrow at Junction City, Kansas. He was a lifetime resident of Junction City, but he enjoyed seeing the world with his many travels. Some of his favorite places to visit would include, Hawaii, all of Europe, and all around the United States.

Steve worked for Stacy's Restaurant for more than 25 years, cooking for the majority of Junction City. He retired from Stacy's, February 2024, ending his lifetime legacy as their head cook. Music was Steve's passion, anything he could listen to he would. While working at Stacy's, friends can remember him listening to his favorite C.Ds of Elton John, Queen, and of course Justin Timberlake. Once Steve got off work, he made sure to leave his C.Ds behind for his beloved vinyl records, this was his favorite way of listening to his beloved artists. Above all else Steve loved spending time with his family going to an array of different concerts to include: Elton John, Fall Out Boy, Kesha, Macklemore, and many more. Steve was a very giving person, always looking out for his neighbors and giving to many charitable organizations.

Steve is survived by his loving mother, Mary and his friend, Junior (Skylar) Webb of who Steve always considered his son. Steve is preceded by his father, Jerald and his loving puppy, Joy.

Manuel passed away suddenly on April 5, 2024, from heart failure.

 He was born in Havana, Cuba, on December 12, 1959. In his early years he discovered he had a gift for musical production and produced the musical shows for top hotels in Cuba. This led to a Cuban music television program which he also produced. Manuel spoke several languages and had a unique ability to deal with people. This led to his being assigned to personally act as the guide to very well to do tourists visiting Cuba. His success in this led to his similar job on a passenger liner travelling between Europe and Cuba. He was so successful in this position he was still being offered jobs to go back to sea every few months up to the time of his death.

Seeing the world, Manuel became dissatisfied with Cuba, left the ship in Mexico and came to the United States where he has lived for most of the last 20 years. Following the death of his wife, he no longer wished to live in California and decided to move to Kansas, where he has lived for the last eight years. He is survived by his daughter, her husband, two grandchildren, his sister and a brother, and several cousins all still living in Cuba. He also has aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in the United States. He was in contact with them regularly and missed them a great deal.

Manuel was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, May 13th, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2812 Marlatt Avenue, Manhattan, KS, while his cousin, Hathor Dell and her daughter Karizma are in Manhattan for the service.

Terry Wayne Monihen, age 76 of Council Grove and formerly of Riley, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at the Morris County Hospital in Council Grove.

He was born on February 28, 1948, in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, the son of James and Betty (Burkeholder) Monihen.

On July 7, 1973, he married Martha Sue Miles. &nbsp;She survives of the home.

Terry was a barber at the Fort Riley Barber Shop for 26 years and was a custodial supervisor at Kansas State University for 10 years. &nbsp;He served in the U.S. Army and received many medals while serving in Vietnam. &nbsp; He was a member of the Masons and the United Methodist Church. &nbsp;He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved attending and watching his grandchildren’s school activities, especially &nbsp;their sporting events.

In addition to his wife Martha Monihen, he is survived by two sons, Aaron Monihen and Cheryl of Alta Vista and Brent Monihen and Shannon of Cedar Point; three daughters, Jennifer VanSickle and Brian of Riley, Ronda Fagan and Rex of McVeytown, Pennsylvania, and Rebecca Monihen of Manhattan; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, James Isett, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Tyler Lynn Todaro; two great grandchildren, Hope Madalynn Pryor, and Rowan John Pryor; his brother, Donald Monihen and his wife Barbara, and his sister, Janet Isett.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the Riley Cemetery with Brent Monihen and John Pryor officiating. &nbsp;The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

&nbsp;John H. Higgins was born January 4, 1941 in Trenton, Missouri, the son of Howard and Urania (Klingensmith) Higgins. John departed this world on Friday, at his home, in Abilene Kansas at the age of 83 years.

John graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton Missouri and was engaged in farming up until his marriage to Hope Layne on October 2, 1960 in Trenton, Missouri. Following his marriage, John pursued the marketing field and. In 1973 joined the American Greeting Card Corporation - Cleveland, Ohio. John and Hope moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where John was a Zone Manager. While there he was chosen Salesman of the Year. In 1980 John made the decision to move back to Kansas to be nearer to his family. After moving back to Kansas, John covered the entire western part of Kansas with his territory until his retirement in 2003, retiring with honors, making many friends and business acquaintances along the way. John was a family man who enjoyed hunting, history, gardening and reading. John was very devoted to his Masonic Lodge and participated in many of their fundraisers. He gave back to the Masonic Lodge by donating flooring and carpeting to the local lodge in Abilene.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Hope Higgins, daughter, Jeanette L. Parker of Wichita, sons John W. Higgins of Abilene, Joseph Higgins and his wife Courtney of Topeka and Jeffrey Higgins and his wife, Veronica, of Abilene, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren and his brother and sister.

Services will be at the Martin-Becker Carlson Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Walls officiating. His final resting place will be in the family mausoleum at the Abilene Cemetery with Masonic Honors. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2924&nbsp; at the funeral home.

Carletta Anne Edwards, age 72, of Manhattan, passed away the evening of Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Stoneybrook Retirement. Born December 18, 1951 in Washington, IA, she was the daughter of James L. Edwards, Jr. and Louise M. Edwards.

She graduated from High School in Washington, IA in 1970, and became a nurse in 1985. She worked in nursing homes throughout the state of Iowa, and had a special affinity for the sassy, ornery women she helped care for. The spicy women of the nursing home were her favorites to work with, which is why it is no surprise she became one when it was her time.

Carletta was also an artist and a crafter. She painted throughout her life and learned quilting and ribbon wreath-making later in life. For a time, she was a member of the Konza Quilting Guild. She loved Christmas, especially Christmas trees and Christmas lights. She said she loved Jesus, and said her favorite verse was John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life,” because “that about sums it up.” She also loved Sterzing’s potato chips from Burlington, IA, and was really glad when she found them at a grocery store here in Manhattan. She enjoyed working the soil and keeping flowers and plants. One of her favorite childhood memories was learning about flowers and working in the dirt with her Grandma Moothart.

Survivors include her daughters Dyan Edwards-Cagley, Leia Edwards, and son Clifford Hunt, II, her sister Carolyn Brown, and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Cheryl Bonebright, and brother James L. Edwards, III.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday May 8, 2024 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Cecille H. Benson, 80, passed away on May 2nd, 2024 from complications due to pneumonia.

Cele was born on August 4th, 1943 in El Paso, TX, to Cecil and Marie (Sexton) Herrell. They lived in Las Cruces, NM where Cecil was a radio announcer. Cele met her husband of 58 years, Douglas K. Benson, while attending New Mexico State University. They were married on August 21st, 1965. Doug went on to get a Ph.D. at the University of New Mexico, while Cele worked at Packard Bell.

The couple soon moved to Hastings, Nebraska, where they had two sons, Eric and Craig. In 1980, the whole family moved to Manhattan, Kansas. During this time, Cele stayed home with her two sons.

Cele started her work life again at a yarn shop in downtown Manhattan. She loved the fiber arts, and this job fit her insatiable curiosity about the different ways thread and yarn could be used to create things of beauty. Cele was also apprenticed to Grace Goff in the Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program to learn tatting.

Cele also worked at the American Institute of Baking, where she learned all about the “new” desktop computers and the applications needed to make things work. This job not only fit her experience in New Mexico, but also gave yet another place to learn something new.

As time went on, Cele’s body started to rebel. Exposure to polio, chronic fatigue and multiple bouts with pneumonia made her retire early. However, she never stopped learning.

Cele is survived by her sons and their families; Eric (Emily) Benson and Craig (Kelly) Benson; and six grandchildren, Margaret, Josephine, David, Riley, Laura, and Casey. Family meant everything to her.

Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Wamego, Kansas, on Monday, May 27th at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the <a href="https://www.manhattanarts.org/">Manhattan Arts Center (MAC) </a>in Manhattan, KS.

Derek Ely Nelson was taken from us way too early, when he passed away at the age of 38, at his residence in Merriam, Kansas, on May 1, 2024. He was born March 7, 1986, in Colby, Kansas, the son of Mark and Donnita (Weiler) Nelson. The family moved to Manhattan in 1997.

Music was a part of Derek’s life from a very early age, with piano lessons, recitals and learning to play his great-great grandfather’s violin. Derek enjoyed the significance of playing a piece of family history as the violin was brought to America when his grandfather immigrated from Czechoslovakia in the late 1800’s. Shortly after moving to Manhattan, Derek began taking Taekwondo lessons. Working through the ranks, Derek ultimately earned his Black Belt and assisted with beginner classes at the dojo he trained at.

Like many of us, Derek endured his high school years. Eager to move onto the next chapter, he took several AP courses and even attended classes at Kansas State University before graduating from Manhattan High School in 2004. He attended Kansas State University and earned his bachelor’s degree in history focusing his studies on Japanese history and the Crusades. He studied abroad at the International Summer Program at Cambridge University and Lancaster University both in the United Kingdom. While there, he spent as much time as possible exploring the countryside with classmates and participating in numerous University excursions.

Derek moved to the Kansas City area in 2015, accepting a position as a Technical Analyst for Yellow Freight. More recently, he was working as a Technology Program Analyst for Script Pro, a medical technology company in the Kansas City area.

Derek loved spending time with his family and friends. As a fan of traditions, Derek enjoyed the annual Nelson Family Christmas Eve game night, Christmas hibachi with his sister and friends, and numerous “regular,” get-togethers with individual friends. He loved National parks, the Overland Park Arboretum &amp; Botanical Gardens, and weekend day trips throughout Kansas. Watching movies and a healthy mixture of both good . . . and bad TV. A sports fan, but maybe more so for the opportunity to gather, Derek enjoyed watching Chiefs and K-State games with friends and family.

Something very special about Derek was that while he was the same gentle, kind-hearted person with everyone, he also had a way of creating unique relationships and revealing a slightly different side of himself with individual friends, co-workers, and family. He will be missed for his dry, subtle sense of humor and late-night rambling conversations. Anna Elaine Miller, age 58, passed away in her home in Westmoreland, Kansas on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

Anna was born in September 1965 to Kenneth and Janice (Adams) Goehring of Wamego, Kansas. &nbsp;She was the youngest daughter of their four children and was lovingly referred to as “Ann” by those who knew and loved her. &nbsp;Ann attended Westmoreland High School where she met her former husband, Robert “Bobby” Miller Jr. Upon graduating from WHS in 1984, Bobby and Ann welcomed a son, Ryan. In 1996, their daughter Cheyanne was born. &nbsp;

A prominent member of the Westmoreland community, Ann was the face of the Pottawatomie County Health Department where she served her community for 28 years as an Administrative Professional. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was oftentimes the life of the party with her sarcasm, quick wit, and infectious laugh. Ann was a loyal friend who chose to see the best in others and was always willing to help someone in need. Those who knew her well also saw her soft heart for animals, as she cared for many pets throughout the years including her most beloved and greatly missed Chihuahua, Bella.&nbsp;

Ann is survived by her mother, Janice Goehring; son Ryan Miller (Stephanie); daughter Cheyanne Miller; grandson Reo Miller; sisters Teresa Ault (Bruce) and Marcia Beachler (Shane), brother Kenneth “Kirk” Goehring (Jennifer), and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Goehring.

The family will greet friends at a visitation service on Monday, May 13, 2024, from 4:00 to&nbsp; 8:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Wamego, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

Kay Osthoff, 64 died April 30, 2024, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS. &nbsp;She was born on July 13, 1959, in Clay Center, the daughter of Darrell and Helen (Craig) Urban. &nbsp;Kay was raised in Clay Center before moving to Overland Park, KS with her parents. &nbsp;She returned to Clay Center in the early 1990’s. &nbsp;Kay worked as a teacher, a librarian at the Carnegie Library in Clay Center and at the Eisenhower Presidential Museum before retiring. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Kay was preceded in death by her parents.

Kayleen Kastor, 31 years old, passed away on April 13, 2024, at Stormont Vail Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas.

Kayleen was born March 27, 1993 to Kandido and Merly Kastor in Kolonia, Pohnpei. Kayleen enjoyed dancing, singing, and fishing. Kayleen graduated from The Pohnpei State High School.

She is survived by her parents Kandida and Merly Kastor and her siblings kandido, kathleen,kaylord, kirlieen.

She will be shipped back to her home in Kolonia, Pohnpei for burial. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Marcia L. Williams, 65, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on April 26, 2024, in her home.

 A family led celebration of life will take place at a later date.

Marcia was born on March 1, 1959, to Gene and Clara (Judge) Conklin in Bath, Maine. Growing up in a military family, she spent most of her childhood traveling with her family all around the United States. Some of the places she would call home are Maine, California, New Jersey, Alaska, and Maryland. Once her father retired, she and her family moved back to Nebraska where she graduated from Gering High School in 1977.Following high school, she attended college at the University of Northern Colorado then transferred to Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, finishing a bachelor degree. After graduating, she worked as a social worker helping to place children in loving homes. After ten years of working, she decided to go back to school to pursue a masters. She graduated from the University of Washington with a masters in social work in the year 2007.

Marcia is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Richard Williams; one daughter, Nicole (Adam) Gore of Junction City, Kansas; one sister, Debra Lautenslager; one brother, Philip Conklin and four grandchildren: Magnolia, Olivia, Dean, and Samuel. She is preceded by her parents; two brothers, Steven and Michael, and a nephew, Nicholas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Russell Dewuain Sams, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle &amp; friend, passed away at the age of 62.

 He was born in Council Grove, Kansas on November 19, 1961, and passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024.Russ had a passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, often taking to the open road to explore the countryside he cherished. His love for nature was matched only by his commitment to serving his community as a member of the Fire and EMS departments. A man of deep faith, Russ studied the Bible daily and maintained a close walk with God. He wished for his loved ones to share in that spiritual relationship and find love in the Lord.

Away from his public service, Russ found joy in working with his hands, and in the company of his beloved dogs and family. He was a devoted family man, always putting his loved ones first. His trademarks were “Love ya’s” and reminding them, "Always remember the road home."

A Celebration of Life for Russ will be held on July 6, 2024 at 10:30 am, at the Skiddy Cemetery in Skiddy Kansas. In honor of his love for nature and in consideration of the family's needs, the family requests that in lieu of cut flowers, those wishing to express their sympathy make a donation towards medical expenses. Russ left an indelible mark on all those who knew him, and his spirit of service, adventure, and family devotion will be deeply missed.

Madeline "Lynn" Louise Haynes, age 83 of Leonardville, passed away Monday, April 29, 2024 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. She was born on October 11, 1940, in Reseda, California, the daughter of David and Madeline (Shewbert) Rymal.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 17, 2024 at the Fancy Creek Church, 14841 Bodaville Road, Randolph, Kansas 66554.

Larry Gene Spradling, age 64, of Manhattan, passed away on Wednesday April 24, 2024 with is family beside him.

He was born on March 14, 1960 in Rockwood, Tennessee, the son of Terrell and Nila (Harvey) Spradling. He graduated from Rockwood High School with the class of 1978. Larry served 8 years in the U.S. Army following high school.

Larry worked at the McCall Pattern Company for over 25 years until the plant closed. At the present time he was working at USD 383 in the Maintenance Department.

On September 27, 1993 in Manhattan, he was untied in marriage to Tamara Kay Worthington. This union was blessed with two daughters, Kimberly and Amanda.

He had many interests in life. He was a huge NASCAR fan, where Dale Earnhardt Sr. was his favorite driver. Larry enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to hunt with his friend Paul. They put many miles on their trucks trying to find “that” deer.

One of his favorite things outdoors was the pride and joy he had in his camper and dually truck. He loved to camp. He was a great cook and loved to smoke meat of any kind. He was the king of building fires for his camping buddies. But what brought him the most happiness over the last five years was taking his granddaughter Ava camping. Ava was very interested in camping with her papa, she wanted to pick up sticks for papa’s bonfires. That was Larry’s “Miss Mae”.

He was preceded in death by his father Terrell, his sister Sonya, his grandparents, and also his father-in-law Roy Worthington.

Larry is survived by his wife Tamara, daughters Kimberly and Amanda Spradling, his granddaughter Ava, all of Manhattan; his mother Nila Spradling, his sister Theresa Vance (Carl), and his brother Richard Spradling, all of Rockwood, Tennessee; his mother-in-law Delores Worthington, and brothers-in-law Craig and Corey, and also his many other relatives and friends.

Sally A. Wright, 77, of Clay Center, Kansas, died on Monday, April 29, 2024 at the Clay County Medical Center. &nbsp;She was born on January 8, 1947 in Van Nuys, California, the daughter of Max and Margaret (Morden) Souers. &nbsp;

Sally grew up in southern California. &nbsp;She married Ronald Wright on June 15, 1962 and the couple lived in various locations due to Ronald’s military service. &nbsp;Ronald preceded her in death on February 26, 2018. &nbsp;Sally moved to Clay Center with her son and daughter in-law in October of 2019. She is also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Carol Wase; great grandchild, Atticus and 2 sisters, Sandy Tucker and Sue Kangas.

Sally is survived by her son, John and wife, Michelle Wright of Clay Center, Kansas; daughter, Sheri McCormick of Redmond, Oregon; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and lifelong friends, Naomi and Billy Patton of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.

Wright, 77, of Clay Center, Kansas, died on Monday, April 29, 2024 at the Clay County Medical Center. &nbsp;She was born on January 8, 1947 in Van Nuys, California, the daughter of Max and Margaret (Morden) Souers. &nbsp;Sally grew up in southern California. &nbsp;She married Ronald Wright on June 15, 1962 and the couple lived in various locations due to Ronald’s military service. &nbsp;Ronald preceded her in death on February 26, 2018. &nbsp;Sally moved to Clay Center with her son and daughter in-law in October of 2019. She is also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Carol Wase; great grandchild, Atticus and 2 sisters, Sandy Tucker and Sue Kangas.Sally is survived by her son, John and wife, Michelle Wright of Clay Center, Kansas; daughter, Sheri McCormick of Redmond, Oregon; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and lifelong friends, Naomi and Billy Patton of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.There are no services planned at this timeInurnment will take place at a later date in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.

Eula Jean Weisner, age 93 of Manhattan, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House.

She was born on November 5, 1930, in Leonardville, the daughter of John J. and Freda Victoria (Hanson) Arents.

On August 12, 1950, she married George Kenneth Weisner at her parents’ home. &nbsp;He preceded her in death in 2019.

Jean was a Registered Nurse at Asbury Hospital in Salina, Fort Riley Hospital and completed her nursing career at Pediatric Associates in Manhattan. &nbsp;She attended Westview Community Church and Sedalia Community Church. &nbsp; She enjoyed playing cards at the Manhattan Senior Center, watching football and baseball with her son and in her earlier years, going to the lake and camping, boating, and skiing. &nbsp;George and her loved traveling and spent several winters in Florida.

She is survived by one son, Kevin Weisner of Manhattan; two daughters, Debra Holle of Manhattan and Christine Miller and husband Mason of Manhattan; seven grandchildren, Dustin Holle, Lance Holle (Jennifer), Aaron Holle (Tabatha), Amanda Brubeck (Chris), Chip Miller, Wendy Allison (Tobey) and Scott Miller; sixteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. &nbsp;Burial will be in the Leonardville City Cemetery.

Ruth was born on August 3, 1945, at Marion, Ohio. &nbsp;She is the daughter of Ralph and Inez (Hardesty) Augenstine. &nbsp; She married Douglas Green on February 5, 1966, at Maron, Ohio. &nbsp;

Douglas (Doug) Duane Londene, at the age of 71 of Chapman, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 due to a tragic farm accident.

Doug was born October 1st, 1952 to Duane and Lola (Carpenter) Londene of Chapman, Kansas.He attended Woodbine grade school and graduated from Chapman High School in 1970.In his younger years, Doug enjoyed playing baseball and was a 4-H member of the Woodbine Jolly Jayhawkers. His career was working for BNSF railroad for 36 years achieving the job as Road Master. He retired in 2014 and dedicated his days to full-time farming until his death.Doug will be remembered for many things but, especially his laughter, his tight bear hugs and the joy of conversation.

Survivors include his wife, Birgitte, two daughters, Amy (Kevin) Wade, Angela Londene, one son, Ryan (Danielle) Londene and one step-son Michael Mager. Other survivors include one sister, Diane Londene, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and two step grandchildren,two nieces, two nephews, one great niece and three great nephews, two great-great nieces, and one great-great nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cindy Jo Wilson.

Homer Gene Smith, age 62, of Manhattan, died April 26, 2024, at the Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

He was born June 20, 1961, in Manhattan, the son of William L. “Billy” and Margarete (Ruhmann) Smith.

He worked for the City of Manhattan in the Forestry Department for 17 years, worked construction in Alaska for 6 months prior to returning to Manhattan and worked for BHS Construction for 23 years as their Shop Foreman.

Homer enjoyed riding dune buggies, wood working, was in a bowling league for many years and participated in Nationals in Reno, NV, working with his hands and helping others. Most of all he loved his family and spending time with them.

On May 24, 1991, in Manhattan, he was married to Debrah Chapman. Debrah survives of the home. Additional survivors include four children: Jesse Ray Smith of Hutchinson, KS, Amy Haselhorst (Nate) of Wamego, Kristy Stadler (Nate Severson) of St. George, and Joseph Stadler of Scottsdale, AZ; seven grandchildren: Jasmine, Logan, Hadley, Alyssa, Sophia, Emlyn and Maverik; six siblings: Monica Houston (Billy) of Hutchinson, George Smith of Manhattan, John Smith (Connie) of Manhattan, Terry Smith (Debbie) of Manhattan, Rosalie Lyttle (Jon) of Marshall, IL, and Denis Smith of Manhattan; and a large and loving extended family.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents, one brother William, and one niece Amanda Mesa.

Cremation is planned with memorial services to be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 8th, in the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Chuck Asbury officiating.

Her family was important to her. She enjoyed teaching good manners to her children, nephews and nieces. Decorating for the holidays and tending to her yard work was done with pride and precision.

Survivors include two sons; Charles Melendez and his wife Ashley of Manhattan, Kansas and Kevin Smith of Junction City, Kansas; two brothers, Michael Dupere of Montevideo, Minnesota and Leroy Dupere of Junction City, Kansas; one sister, Inge Noa of Junction City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Damion and Holden both of Manhattan, Kansas and her best friend Benny Melendez; nephews and nieces, Casey and her husband Herschel Weishaar and their children Bowie, Lyra, Colt and August, Morgan and her husband Andrew Goebel and their children Tucker and Russell, Maria (Maggie) and her husband Dave Metzler and a host of many cousins in Copperas Cove, Texas. Janett Ingrid Doris Melendez

Hazel Irene (Olson) Patterson was born July 30, 1932 on a farm northwest of Dwight, Kansas. She was one of four children born to Alfred and Emma Olson. Hazel passed away on April 26, 2024, at Chapman Valley Manor at the age of 91.

Hazel attended Antelope country school and graduated from Dwight Rural High School in 1950. After graduation, she lived and worked in Wichita, KS before marrying John E (Ed) Patterson on April 4, 1951. They lived and farmed south of Alta Vista before moving to the Edgerton area and then to Hillsdale where they farmed until 1962 when they moved back to the Dwight area.

In addition to raising six children, Hazel loved to cook, sew, and spent hours enjoying watching or listening to Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, K-State Wildcats and KU Jayhawks football and basketball games. Hazel found great joy in quilting, embroidery and other handwork. She made and donated many lap robes to nursing homes and her quilts were lovingly given to her children, grandchildren and friends over the years.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Ed, her son Larry and son Steve. She is survived by her daughters DeeAnn Mayer (Ken), Cheryl Patterson, Carolyn Scott and son Darrell Patterson (Kerry), eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren along with nieces, nephews and special friends.

Private graveside services will take place at Dwight Cemetery. Memorial gifts in her memory may be made to the Dwight United Methodist Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sally was born on April 12, 1950, to Jesse and Barbara (Pike) Vose at Bennington, Vermont. Sally was married on June 8, 1968, to George Victor Spooner. Shortly after marrying George, she graduated from Dover High, Dover, New Hampshire. Being a military spouse, she traveled all over the states and also spent some time in Germany with her family. She found her forever home once her husband retired from the military in White City, Kansas. Her family will always have fond memories in their home.Sally loved reading, crocheting, knitting, gardening, and of course spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her one daughter, Dawn (John) Laizure; one son, Patrick Spooner; one sister, Barbara Graham; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a host of other loving family and friends. &nbsp;Sylvia J. “Shub” Nelson, 72, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on April 24, 2024, at Stormont Vail- Flint Hills Campus, surrounded by her loving family.

Sylvia was born on June 19, 1951, to Harold and Lillie (Curtis) Holland in Aragon, Georgia. In late 1951, Sylvia and her family moved to Junction City, Kansas. Sylvia attended grade school, junior high and graduated from Junction City High School in 1970. After graduation, Sylvia married the love of her life, Danny, on January 29, 1971, the couple had three boys. In 1970, Sylvia began working for the Geary County Attorney where she worked until 1974. From 1974-1976, she worked for the probate judge. Sylvia began her career with United Telephone Company beginning in 1976 through 1994.

Sylvia decided to leave her career to care for her family from 1994 to 1999. She then went back into the workforce at PayPhone Concepts as an accounting clerk from 1999 to 2007. After her work in communications, she transitioned to Geary Community Hospital in the Maintenance Department as the department administrative assistant from 2009 to 2013.

Sylvia loved her family. She enjoyed her time taking care of her loving husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her favorite hobbies included spoiling her grandbabies, reading books, and studying her bible.Her goal in life was to live according to God’s word and be His obedient servant.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Danny; one son, Christopher (Rhianna) Nelson, their two daughters, Charleigh and Rylee of Manhattan, Kansas. Granddaughter, Marcella (Stephen) Hearn, their two sons Aaron and Micah of San Antonio, Texas. Three sisters; Janice (Alan) Moore of Junction City, Kansas, Terry (Marcus) Hammond of Manhattan, Kansas, and Karen (Ronald) Doyle of Junction City, Kansas; a host of other loving family members and friends.

 </figure>&nbsp;Sylvia J. “Shub” Nelson, 72, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on April 24, 2024, at Stormont Vail- Flint Hills Campus, surrounded by her loving family. family led celebration of life will take place at JC Church of the Nazarene on Thursday, May 2nd at 10:00 am.Sylvia was born on June 19, 1951, to Harold and Lillie (Curtis) Holland in Aragon, Georgia. In late 1951, Sylvia and her family moved to Junction City, Kansas. Sylvia attended grade school, junior high and graduated from Junction City High School in 1970. After graduation, Sylvia married the love of her life, Danny, on January 29, 1971, the couple had three boys. In 1970, Sylvia began working for the Geary County Attorney where she worked until 1974. From 1974-1976, she worked for the probate judge. Sylvia began her career with United Telephone Company beginning in 1976 through 1994.Sylvia decided to leave her career to care for her family from 1994 to 1999. She then went back into the workforce at PayPhone Concepts as an accounting clerk from 1999 to 2007. After her work in communications, she transitioned to Geary Community Hospital in the Maintenance Department as the department administrative assistant from 2009 to 2013.Sylvia loved her family. She enjoyed her time taking care of her loving husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her favorite hobbies included spoiling her grandbabies, reading books, and studying her bible.Her goal in life was to live according to God’s word and be His obedient servant.Sylvia is survived by her husband, Danny; one son, Christopher (Rhianna) Nelson, their two daughters, Charleigh and Rylee of Manhattan, Kansas. Granddaughter, Marcella (Stephen) Hearn, their two sons Aaron and Micah of San Antonio, Texas. Ta' Shayla L. "Shay" Gross, 28, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Stormont Vail - Flint Hills Campus in Junction City, Kansas.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the Johnson Funeral Home with Elder Lennon Trawick officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.

Ta' Shayla was born July 14, 1995, in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Michael A. Gross, Sr. and Angela S. Diorio.Ta' Shayla loved music and dancing. She was a good cook. She was an over protective sister to her siblings and was known as a "Daddy's Girl". She enjoyed raising her four sons and was known for her out going spirit and personality.

Survivors include her four sons, Christopher, Jr., Elijah, Mason and Kameron; father, Michael and wife Crystal Gross of Temple, Texas; five brothers, Mikel, Michael, Jr., Damien, Anthony and Sivon; seven sisters, Tanishia, Tiyanna, Rashawna, Jeaninna, Tatyanna, Tiarra and Aleah; grandfathers, Alan Bouska, Michael Diorio and Elder Lennon Trawick.&nbsp;&nbsp;
