Conchita “Connie” de Jesus was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. After telling family she was “ready to go to the party,” she quietly passed on July 15, 2021 at age 89. She was preceded in death by her husband Jose de Jesus, Sr. (1LT, U.S. Army, RET); her sister, Cecelia; and a young daughter, Joanne de Jesus. She is survived by two sons, Jose (Jacque) de Jesus, Jr., and Tony de Jesus; and two daughters, Kathy Davenport and Marilyn Tinker. She has seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Patricia Bantugan, and her dear aunt, Rita Santos. Connie worked for several years for the Housing Office at Fort Riley, KS. She was proud of the work she did there and the many people she met and worked with. But her greatest joys came later in life while serving her family and interacting in the community. Connie was well known for her award-winning baked goods, to include her famous chocolate chip cookies and carrot cake that she would gift to others during the holidays. Her legacy of great cooking and comfort food has been handed down through cherished recipes that her children and grandchildren now prepare. She enjoyed having large family gatherings where she could spoil the grandchildren, make hand-cranked home-made ice cream, and teach the art of preparing fried rice, pancit, and Filipino egg rolls. An avid Kansas City and K-State sports fan, she was known for cheering on the Chiefs, Royals, or Wildcats every weekend while wearing either her Purple Pride or KC attire. She knew game stats, the coaches, and all the players. If a team didn’t perform well, she could be heard hollering at them from her official position at couch-side. A self-proclaimed coupon queen, Connie hunted the best deals at the best prices. If she gave you a Dillon's shopping list and coupons, your mission was to ensure you received the proper discounts. Failure would dictate a return to the store for remedial couponing. She had fun re investing her coupon savings into slot machines at the nearby casino. A lifetime animal lover, her last and best furry friend is her mischievous cat, Buddy, a stray she adopted and who has surpassed his quota of nine lives. Buddy became a minor celebrity when he was featured in multiple cat calendars-one of which was a national-level publication. Connie made sure Buddy remained humble despite his fame. Connie’s wishes were to be cremated. A funeral mass at St. Xavier’s Catholic Church will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2021, with interment at Fort Riley Cemetery. Moonie J. Singh, 88, of Junction City, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at her home in Junction City while under Hospice Care, surrounded by her loving family. Cremation has taken place. Moonie Singh was born “Muniya Ramsawak” on May 4, 1933, on the island of Trinidad in the West Indies, the daughter of Ramsawak and Rookmin Kantu. She was the granddaughter of Indentured Servants who migrated from India to the Caribbean to work for the British in the late 1800’s. One of ten children, Moonie was raised in a family that worked hard growing rice, coffee and cocoa to survive. She was a rebel of sorts, who went against tradition and completed her schooling, took classes on creating bridal bouquets and sewing, opened her own business and refused the traditional arranged marriage that was the norm in the Indian-Hindu community. In her early 20’s, Moonie became a Born-Again Believer in Jesus Christ, a decision that would drastically change her life. Bold in her faith, she encouraged a young man named Arjoon Singh, who had quite a crush on her, to attend a Christian Crusade service. After giving his heart to Jesus, Arjoon waited for Moonie outside the Crusade tent and told her, “Moonie, you are the person who is supposed to be my wife. No one had ever told me about Jesus before you”. After years of pursuing her, Moonie finally agreed to marry him. Arjoon and Moonie were married on October 11, 1959, in Rio Claro, Trinidad. Unable to have a child of their own, during the first thirteen years of their marriage, Moonie and her husband raised many of their nieces and nephews while operating a taxi business and bridal/flower business from their home. They were both founding members of their Pentecostal church and very active in spreading the Good News about Jesus in their community. Moonie taught children Sunday school, both at church and at private homes, and later became the Sunday School Superintendent in her church. In the late 1960’s, her husband came to New York City, NY to study welding and to work. In 1971 Moonie came to visit him in NYC. After listening to preacher Oral Roberts on radio for years, she saw him on the small television in their apartment for the first time. When Oral Roberts said, “Something GOOD is going to happen to YOU today!”, Moonie placed her hands on the TV and asked God to bless her with a child. After 13 years of marriage, she became pregnant for the first time and gave birth at age 39 to her only child, Lisa. Thanks to the blessing of Lisa being born a United States Citizen, Arjoon and Moonie were able to obtain their U. S. Residency, and later their U. S. Citizenship. Moonie and her family moved permanently to New York in 1974, settling in the Niagara Falls/Buffalo area. Moonie worked for Mister Donut and then Mount Saint Mary’s Hospital, from which she retired, while being active in her local church teaching Sunday School. She cared for her husband during his six years on dialysis, and they spent the cold Buffalo winters in warm Fort Myers, Florida with family. After his death on September 13, 1999, in Buffalo, NY, Moonie moved to Lehigh Acres, Florida full-time with her daughter. Moonie was continually active in her church, New Life Assembly, helping with adult Sunday School, Ushering, and volunteering with The Bread Ministry. She also volunteered at the local hospital. In 2017, Moonie moved to Junction City, Kansas to live with her daughter and son-in-law. While Parkinson’s slowed down her body, her spirit remained strong. She loved to tell anyone and everyone she met about Jesus! Moonie loved to give and would visit neighbors with baked goods and a word of encouragement. There was not a child that crossed her path that did not walk away with candy, or some treat she had in her bag. Moonie loved going to the Geary County Senior Center, attending the exercise classes, special outings and events and fellowshipping with the Staff and other Seniors there. She loved her church family at Flint Hills Church. Most importantly, Moonie loved Jesus and was looking forward to Heaven. She desired that her life reflect Jesus and point others to Him. Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Bailey and her husband Matthew of Junction City, KS: two brothers, Mohan Maharaj of Alberta, Canada and Punka Ramsawak of Tableland, Trinidad. Normann L. Burwell, 90 passed away July 17, 2021. He was born July 20, 1930 at Manhattan, KS, the son of Walter and Lillian Burwell. He graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1948. On August 16, 1964 he married Genevieve Anguiano.

 He is survived by his wife of the home, son, David Cress (Dee), Daughter Liz Alvarez (Mark Larson). Three granddaughters, Caitlin Wallace (Grant), Becca Fritch (Garrett) and Karli Alvarez. One great-granddaughter Metilda Marie Wallace. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Perry Donald Burwell and sister Lucille Burwell Norris. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 22, 2021 at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Fr. Peter O’Donnell as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Abilene. Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Danner Funeral Home. Family will receive friends following. Robert Joseph (Joe) Foltz was born on September 29, 1927 to Edward Joseph Foltz and Ethel (Van Dyke) Foltz. He went to be with the Lord July 17, 2021. His father passed away when he was a baby and he was raised by his mother in Abilene and Topeka. He attended McKinley Grade School and Abilene Jr. High until his mother transferred to Topeka in 1939. He attended Topeka High School where he excelled in basketball and track, and was a lifelong sports fan. In 1944, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific aboard the destroyer McCaffery. After the war, Joe enjoyed playing basketball on the Navy team, traveling to various college campuses and occasionally to Mexico. When his enlistment was up he returned to his favorite place and farmed with his uncle Herman and aunt Laura Felbush. On August 21 1949, Joe was united in marriage to Donna Mae Ming in Abilene, and to this union nine children were born. Donna unexpectedly passed away on November 17, 1963. Joe was active in the New Basel Church where he served as a Deacon. He helped organize the Rural Center Ball Club where all nine children played ball. He was on the Rural Center school board when the school was organized and built. Joe drove a school bus, helped his children with their projects at the Holland Sunflower 4-H Club, and enjoyed their fair projects each summer. Joe also farmed, raised registered Angus cattle, buffalo, hogs, chickens, peacocks, goats, horses and pigeons. On October 19, 1969 Joe was united in marriage to Naoma Schmutz Heller, and she and her four children joined his family. In 1985, Joe started a Calf Care Center with his son Gary, and eventually turned the farm and cattle business over to him in 2004. Joe and Naoma then moved from the farm to Abilene in 2013. Joe is survived by his wife Naoma, children; Kathy (Ron) Lehnerz, Arizona, Edward (Marilyn),Abilene Stan, Abilene Jody Ford, Arizona Peggy Swanson, Salina Casey (Jane),Abilene Gary (Deb),Abilene Lauri (Harold) Terry, Salina Sherri (James) Hedstrom, Chapman Sally (Dave) Eshelman, Topeka Randy (Kris) Heller, Chapman Ron (Nancy) Heller, Abilene Bruce (Penni) Heller, St. John, 34 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, his sister Jane Tharp from Topeka, sister in law Clarine Robson, Abilene, brother in law Glen Holt, Seattle Washington, many nieces, nephews and friends. Robert J. Foltz - September 29th, 1927-July 17th, 2021

Matthew C. Troy, age 55, of Ogden, died July 13, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan. He was born August 14, 1965, at Fort Riley, the son of John Edward and Carole Florence (Russell) Troy. Matt graduated from Manhattan High School in in 1983 and then joined Army Active Reserves for three years. Matt then attended Manhattan Area Vo-Tech and graduated in welding. Matt worked for LG Barcus and Sons as a Construction Superintendent for deep foundations, and worked all over the country for his work. He was a volunteer for the Volunteer Fire Department in Ogden for more than 20 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ogden, Knights of Columbus, Union Local # 1290, and a former member of the Ogden American Legion. Matt was a very proud father, loved to hunt, to smoke all kinds of meat and food on his smoker, and loved all babies and was a baby whisperer. On August 16, 1997, in Ogden, he was married to Janet Renae Martin. Janet survives of the home. Additional survivors include two children: Matthew Troy and his wife Miranda of Manhattan, and Nicole Cozadd and her husband Rory of Salina, KS; two grandchildren: Ripley and Oliver Cozadd; his mother Carole Troy of Ogden; six siblings: Michael Troy of Manhattan, Martin Troy and his wife Cheri of Las Vegas, NV, Monica Meredith and her husband John of Plattsmouth, NE, Mark Troy and his wife Becky of Jackson, MO, Mary Troy of Ogden, and Melanie McLochlin and her husband John of Plattsmouth, NE; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Matthew C. Troy, age 55, of Ogden, died July 13, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan. He was born August 14, 1965, at Fort Riley, the son of John Edward and Carole Florence (Russell) Troy. Matt graduated from Manhattan High School in in 1983 and then joined Army Active Reserves for three years. Matt then attended Manhattan Area Vo-Tech and graduated in welding. Matt worked for LG Barcus and Sons as a Construction Superintendent for deep foundations, and worked all over the country for his work. He was a volunteer for the Volunteer Fire Department in Ogden for more than 20 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ogden, Knights of Columbus, Union Local # 1290, and a former member of the Ogden American Legion. Matt was a very proud father, loved to hunt, to smoke all kinds of meat and food on his smoker, and loved all babies and was a baby whisperer. On August 16, 1997, in Ogden, he was married to Janet Renae Martin. Janet survives of the home. Charles taught science and driver’s education in Florence, Marion and Goddard, Kansas. He was a farmer/rancher and a real estate broker. He attended Eastmoor United Methodist, was a member of Lions Club, National Board of Realtors and Marion Advancement Campaign. He enjoyed playing cards and billiards. Most of all he loved attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events.

&nbsp;His loving family includes his wife, Linda of the home; sons and their wives, Dirk and Tonya Kannady of Haysville, Kansas, Eric and Lindsay Kannady of Manhattan, Dax and Emily Kannady of Pilsen; brother, Jimmy Kannady of Valley Center; sister, Teresa Kannady of Benton, Kansas; three grandchildren, Rylie, Avery and Gage Kannady.

He met Teresa Marie Gross Stepherson and they were united in marriage on April 4, 2010 in Savannah, Georgia. He was employed as an electrician/foreman at Footlocker in Junction City, Kansas. He enjoyed computers, developed and started an internet radio station called “Nighthawk Radio” which is now owned and operated by others.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronnie Mack Moncrief Sr. in 1996. Ronnie passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021 at the Geary Community Hospital in Junction City, Kansas.

For 28 years she held her realtor and real estate broker licenses. She was a member of Unity Church and the Association of Realtors and was listed in the Who’s Who for Women in Business directory. In her younger days she worked at the soda fountain at the drug store in Florence. She also rode horses and participated in parades, was a drum major and also a band majorette. She enjoyed dancing, playing the piano, crocheting, crossword puzzles, traveling, playing cards, sewing, selling Real Estate and jewelry. Most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and would attend as many of their events as she could.

Her loving family includes her children, Nedra (William) Olenick of Halstead, Doug (Vici) Mann, Darla Diamond, Don (Angel) Mann all of Wichita; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl in 2015; sister, Esther Sinclair; brother, Dewy Stevens; and her beloved dog, Mr. Angel. Jane passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the age of 88 years old.

Randall Dean Tate died peacefully on July 13, 2021 at his home in McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on July 26, 1955 in Concordia, Kansas to Ray Dean and Florence Jean Hoard Tate.&nbsp;

Randy was the proud father to three children, Bridget Johnston, Bryan Tate, and Aaron Tate and grandfather to four grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Randy was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Nathan Tate; stepfather Warren Taylor; paternal grandparents Lewis and Thelma Tate; Maternal grandparents Andy and Minnie Hoard; brother Curtis Tate, Stepsister Georgie Taylor, and stepbrother Tom Taylor.

His siblings, Max Tate, Brenda Marcotte, Dedra Landon, and Willie Taylor all survive, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Randy enjoyed a busy life collecting antique clocks, woodworking, and spending time with his friends and family. &nbsp; He was loved deeply by the family of Kyle and Jenny Williams and their four children, to which he was a devoted friend and family member.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was a feisty and incorrigible child and the same could probably be said for his entire life, add in the descriptives story teller, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was not a perfect man by any stretch of the imagination but he was a perfectly imperfect father to his two children whom survive him. His daughter Kathrina and son James Jr. He was married a time or two or more, the first time to the mother of his children and the last time for 23 years to the late Sherry Lynn Wolf-Eyer. He was most certainly a believer in love and marriage. He lived his life colorfully. He was a heavy equipment operator for his regular nine to five but his passion was fishing, hunting and trapping. He was also served in the Army 1966-1971 with almost three years in Vietnam. He left behind his daughter Kathrina (Christopher) McGarvey, his son James Jr. (Vicki) and his four grand-children Jayme Eyer, Meghan (JT) Wolf, Lori (Collin) Trickle, and Logan Roussel. He also left behind his four great-grandchildren Allison and Christopher Vance, Cullen Goff, and little Ethan Dishman. He’s going to be greatly missed but his legacy lives on in the family he leaves behind. May God Rest his Soul and keep the Devil away. Brenda passed away of a heart attack on the afternoon of July 12, at the age of 77, in Wichita KS doing what she loved to do, planning for a trip.. She was born Dec. 29, 1943 to D.W. and Edith Evans in Lebo, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Roger Lyman on Aug. 9, 1963. They had 2 children and lived in Lebo almost their entire life. Roger entered the Chapman KS nursing home in 2015 and Brenda moved to Abilene KS to finish their life. She was our friend and our mom and sometimes a pain in the butt. Stubborn yet sweet, 100% on the move all the time, sharp as a tack in mind and mouth. Her sense of humor was the best. She was a lot of fun, we will miss her antics. She loved our dad, Paulette, Paige and Lowell so much but her greatest love was for her grandson Brodie. We know she will watch over him and probably haunt the rest of us. She was a clean freak, control freak with a heart of gold and always cheered for the underdog. March Madness was her favorite time of year. Marilyn Sue Piper, 75, of Wamego, Kansas, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas. Marilyn was born on February 11, 1946, in Formoso, Kansas, the daughter of Laverne and Carol Payne Stansbury. She graduated from Montrose High School in 1964.

Marilyn married Henry John “Hank” Piper on March 3, 1965, in Nelson, Nebraska. Hank and Marilyn relocated from Formoso to Wamego, Kansas in May 1980. Marilyn worked at West Elementary as a secretary until her retirement in 2010. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Wamego.

Marilyn loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid bowler in her younger days. Her favorite past-time was going to the casino with her girlfriends. She was a beautiful lady with a great sense of humor and wit.

On July 5, 2021, William Albert Hussong Jr. peacefully passed away at his home in Oklahoma City, OK – with his family at his side.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill, as he was called by family and friends was born on October 12, 1939 to Dorothy (Hasty) Hussong and William Albert Hussong in Cheverly, MD.

He attended Bladensburg HS, MD, graduating in 1957 and made many lifelong friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;He attended the University of Hawaii where he earned his bachelors degree and met his future wife Martha (Ann) Roniger.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were married in 1962 in Wilsey, KS.

Bill served his country proudly in the United States Army, rising to the distinguished rank of Colonel.&nbsp;&nbsp;During his 30 year, highly decorated career, he served two tours in Viet Nam, taught at the US military academy at West Point, spent many years in military intelligence, and later went on to serve two presidents at the White House.

Upon retirement, Bill and Ann moved to Oklahoma, where he enjoyed and supported many activities and organizations such as Bike across Kansas, 5/7th Cavalry, master family mover, avid reader, firearms aficionado, maintaining beautiful flower gardens, cats, Ann’s many various endeavors, and spending time at the farm.

Bill is predeceased by his parents and wife Ann.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill is survived by his loving family which includes his children Bill (Joan) Hussong of Austin, TX, Shawn (Lisa) Hussong of Norman, OK, and Stephanie (Joe) Valeo of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren Grant, Mason, and Cort Hussong, Juniper, Lily and Daisy Valeo, his sister Dale (Maurice) Grider of Aniston, AL, and Ann’s brother John (Mary) Roniger, Burdick, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;He will be sorely missed by his family and friends and all those he touched and helped on his journey.

William Albert Hussong, Jr. - October 12, 1939-July 5, 2021 (age 81)

Donna Darling Bolek, age 86 of Riley, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021 at her residence.

She was born on October 9, 1934 in Dwight, the daughter of Donald William and Lola Elizabeth (Ledeboer) Howell.

On October 9, 1950, she married Dwayne Joseph Bolek.  He preceded her in death in 1989.

Donna was an LPN from 1969 until 2006 and an antique dealer from 1970 until her retirement a few years ago.  She owned and operated her own antique shop in downtown Riley.  She was proud of the fact that she was the last person to complete LPN training in Manhattan that had not been a high school graduate.  She got her GED in 1974.  Donna started the first  MADD chapter in Kansas in 1984 and her greatest achievement was her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.



She is survived by one son, Dwayne “Abe” Bolek, Jr. and wife Linda of Riley; four daughters, Roxanna Peters of Morganville, Angela Hageman and husband Jerry of Manhattan, Cynthia Baer and husband Karl of Chapman and Alice Webb of Riley; fifteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Lola Bolek Tucker; two grandsons, Billy Webb and Michael Webb; one sister, Delores Jensen and one brother, Darnello Howell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Humboldt Creek Cemetery.

Wanda Elaine (Blackwood) Hafner died on July 14, 2021, in Clay Center, Kansas at the age of 90. She was born on a farm near Miltonvale, Kansas on February 13, 1931, the daughter of George and Jenny (Doig) Blackwood. She was the only daughter in a family of six brothers.

Wanda attended Pleasant View grade school and Miltonvale high school. Her final year of high school, she moved to Clay Center, where she worked at Penney's and attended school. She graduated from Clay County Community High School in 1941.

She married Wayne Hafner on October 2, 1949, in Clay Center, Kansas. She was a devoted farm wife and mother to three sons, Rodney, Randy and Bill. Wanda drove a school bus for USD 379 for 31 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, brothers Don, Dean, Jack and Lawrence, as well as grandson, Grant Hafner.

She is survived by three sons, Rodney (Kathy) of Great Bend, Randy (Cathy) of Clay Center and Bill (Joni) of Prairie Village: 2 brothers George (Pat Nazarenus) of Muscatine, Iowa, and Rex (Mary Kaye) Blackwood of Clay Center and sister-in-law, Madeleine Blackwood of Clyde: 6 grandchildren: Lindsay (Keith) Morice, Matt (Samantha) Hafner, Emily (Monte) Green, Melissa (Jeremiah) Ostmeyer, Josh (Heidi) Hafner and Sam Hafner and twelve great grandchildren.

Wanda was a faithful member of the Countryside United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and youth group for many years.

Wayne and Wanda enjoyed square and round dancing for 20 years, traveling to various states to dance. They also took many bus trips together, traveling to Alaska, Canada and throughout the United States. They were also avid KU basketball fans and enjoyed watching the Royals together.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, July 19, at 1: 30 p.m. at the Clay Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Reuben Langat and Sarah Gill officiating.

Respect calls will be held on Monday from 11:30 a.m.&nbsp; until service time at the church.

Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Ralph W. Reese, 88, of Abilene passed away July 11, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He was born May 7, 1933 in Gypsum, Kansas, the son of Harry E. and Lucy M. (VanVoorst) Reese. Ralph enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years from 1953-1957. Ralph was a longtime Abilene businessman, owning Reese Jewelry store. 

He is survived by his sister, Luetta Chaltas, numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends around the Abilene area. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Don Reese, Frank Reese and Dale Reese; and one sister, Charlene McNary.

Ralph W. Reese

Wanda Louise (Herzet) Carr passed away on Thursday July 8, 2021 at the age of 97. She was born on October 18, 1923 in rural Marion County.&nbsp; Wanda was the daughter of Fred A. and Dixie Louise (Fox) Herzet. She grew up on a farm with her 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She attended a country school and graduated from Marion High School in 1940. As a teenager, Wanda worked at the Elgin Hotel in the housekeeping department.

August 3, 1940, Wanda was united in marriage to Max E. Carr.&nbsp; She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.&nbsp; Wanda enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, embroidery and sewing. In her later years she enjoyed painting, reading, keeping track of her family on Facebook with her tablet and working jigsaw puzzles. Taking care of her family was her greatest joy.&nbsp; Wanda was a member of Eastmoor United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Sew Much Love sewing club, and adult Sunday school classes. She assisted with prom, funeral, and other various church dinners.&nbsp; She loved serving in the kitchen and was always asked to “make her gravy” for the dinners.

Wanda Louise (Herzet) Carr passed away on Thursday July 8, 2021 at the age of 97. She was born on October 18, 1923 in rural Marion County.&nbsp; Wanda was the daughter of Fred A. and Dixie Louise (Fox) Herzet. She grew up on a farm with her 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She attended a country school and graduated from Marion High School in 1940. As a teenager, Wanda worked at the Elgin Hotel in the housekeeping department.August 3, 1940, Wanda was united in marriage to Max E. Carr.&nbsp; She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.&nbsp; Wanda enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, embroidery and sewing. In her later years she enjoyed painting, reading, keeping track of her family on Facebook with her tablet and working jigsaw puzzles. Taking care of her family was her greatest joy.&nbsp; Wanda was a member of Eastmoor United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Sew Much Love sewing club, and adult Sunday school classes. She assisted with prom, funeral, and other various church dinners.&nbsp; She loved serving in the kitchen and was always asked to “make her gravy” for the dinners.Wanda and her husband’s greatest joy was their family which includes sons: William A. (Rosalie) of Jetmore, Thomas E. (Marsha) of Wichita, Max E. (Donna) of Andover, James R. (Kathy) of Hillsboro, David A. (Nina) of Marion, Patrick L. (Ann) of Marion, Michael W. Ruth was born February 4th, 1927, to Adolph and Lydia Skibbe in Marion, KS.&nbsp; She attended grade school at Kreutzinger School House and graduated from Marion High School.&nbsp; Ruth married Charles September 1, 1949, at Strassburg Baptist Church, and they celebrated 67 years of marriage in 2016.&nbsp; Ruth and Charles had a small dairy farm in their early years of marriage. They sold cream and milk, along with eggs from their many chickens, along with tending a large garden.&nbsp; They were blessed with 2 sons to help tend the farm, Mark and Don.&nbsp; In the mid 60’s she obtained her beauty certificate and ran a beauty shop out of their home for over 35 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was a devoted member of the Strassburg Baptist Church; involved in choir, served as church pianist, a Sunday School teacher and involved in Kings Daughters for many years.&nbsp; She was a skilled seamstress and used her talent to support the White Cross.&nbsp; As a deacon’s wife she loved entertaining.&nbsp; Ruth loved baking, especially making pies and bread.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ruth is lovingly remembered by her son, Mark Heiser and his wife Katherine; grandchildren Stephanie Albrecht (husband Kelly) and Krista Donahue (husband Andrew), and 4 great-granddaughters; CheyLynn, Harper, Nessa, and Molly.&nbsp; She is predeceased by her husband Charles, and son Don.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Thomas B. Oakley, 60, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka. A public visitation will be held 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the visitation. A public memorial service will be held 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Shenk Gymnasium at the Junction City High School. Everyone is encouraged to wear blue and white (Bluejay) attire. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Geary Community Schools Foundation in the name of Thomas Oakley for something to be earmarked for future Bluejays. He was awarded the "Shining Star" award in 1995. The majority of his school career was spent at Junction City High School. He touched the lives of many students and teachers. He was a mentor to many. Thomas always had a smile and word of encouragement for teachers and students. Thomas attended all sporting events at Junction City High School. He was a Bluejay for life! Thomas graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1979. He attended Emporia State University where he ran track. He enjoyed many sports where he spent time working as a referee and coaching various sports. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed western movies. Many times, Tamara would wake up in the middle of the night to gun fire coming from the television. Most of all, Thomas enjoyed spending time with family and playing with the grandkids. Thomas married Tamara Lowman-Lucero September 27, 1991 in Junction City. Survivors include his wife Tamara of the home in Junction City, KS; two sons, Christopher Zane Lucero and his wife Jennifer of Junction City, KS and Travis Oakley of GA; two daughters, Angela Jacobson and her husband Kevin of Pelican Lake, WI and Amanda Lucero of Derby, KS; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one due any day.

1SG (RET) Llellwyn “Mac” McTavish, 85, of Junction City, KS passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Geary Community Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at New Church of the Living God with Pastor James E. Johnson officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to New Church of the Living God. Mr. Llellwyn “Mac” McTavish was born October 24, 1935, in New York, New York. He was the son of Nehemiah Z. and Ruth (Lewis) McTavish. He attended and graduated from New York Public Schools, and afterwards joined the United States Army. Mr. McTavish received many honors, awards and medals during his time in the military. He served in the Army for 22 years until his retirement, as a 1st Sergeant, in May, 1978. Mac served in Italy, Vietnam, Germany, and Fort Riley, KS, where he retired and made Junction City his home. After his retirement from the Army, he went to school to refine his skills as a photographer. Mac opened McTavish Photography and Video Studio in Junction City. His business prospered, over the 30 plus years, and he touched many lives, during that time, taking senior photos, wedding photos, family photos, baby photos, employment photos, passport photos, and animal photos. He really enjoyed taking photographs outside. Mr. McTavish was a member of Kiwanis United, where he served the community and the people of the community, where he resided. He also was a member of Gideon's International and New Church of the Living God. Mac did ministry in the way God assigned him. He spoke at many different churches as a member of the Gideon's, and brought the word of God, and the need to get the bibles in the hands of people all over the world. Mac was also a former Sunday School teacher where he joyfully taught the 8 and 9-year-olds.&nbsp; As a member, in good standing, at New Church of the Living God, he attended and participated faithfully. Mac participated in the Marriage Ministry, the Mighty Men of Valor, and God’s Golden Group (3Gs), the Senior Ministry. He, along with his wife Daisy, was very present and very visible in New Church. They were constantly seen praying with people and talking with the children, teenagers and the young adults at any time they were there. Mr. McTavish married Daisy Whitener on January 4, 1967 in Newbury, SC. He made a promise to her father that he would take care of Daisy for the rest of his life. Mac lived up to his promise by passionately loving, providing for, and taking care of his wife for 54 continuous years. Mr. McTavish survivors include his wife Daisy McTavish of Junction City, and three nephews, Ossian Satterwhite (Chantel) of Texas, and Robert Satterwhite (Octavia) and Eugene Glenn all of Georgia; niece, Millicent Dickey of South Carolina and Godson, Matthew Jacow of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Sianna McTavish.&nbsp;&nbsp;
