A retired Goddard Public Schools 3rd grade teacher of 39 years, Miriam grew up in Potwin, graduated from Potwin High School as the Salutatorian of her class, and also from Butler County Junior College. She began her teaching career at the age of 19 while completing her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Emporia State Teacher's College. She went on to also complete her Master of Educaton Degree from Emporia State University. &nbsp;Miriam was named a Who's Who Among American Teachers recipient and was also named The Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America in 1973.

During her newspaper recognition interview, she proudly stated that while she was of sound enough mind and body to enjoy her weekends, she enjoyed teaching enough to look forward to Monday mornings each new week. During her retirement years she enjoyed her word puzzles and being an avid reader. She also enjoyed being involved in her nieces and nephews educations.

Survivors include: nieces, Mary (Ray) Brown, Laura (Terry) Kilgore; nephew, George (Pat) Kasper; many other nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Anna (Thomas) McLain and all of her brothers and sisters, Dorothy Young, Ellen Criger, Wilma Criger, Margaret Kasper, and Arthur McLain Jr. and half-brother Warren McLain and half-sister Mary Whiteside.

Miriam Kay McLain - November 29, 1937-July 23, 2021 (age 83)

Joan passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on February 2, 1943, in Herington, Kansas. She was the daughter of Bud and Edna Iiams. Joan graduated from Herington High School in 1961, Emporia State University in 1965, and received her Masters Degree from Kansas State University.

Joan taught for 36 years at Washington Elementary School in Junction City. She taught 2nd and 3rd grades as well as a 3rd-4th combo. She was a John’s Hopkins Trainer for Success for All Reading Program for her school.

Joan had many hobbies including sewing for herself, family, and friends, she made many gorgeous quilts, enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, loved traveling - toured all 50 states and collected souvenir shot glasses from every state, vacationed in many foreign countries, and created beautiful memory photo albums, enjoyed gourmet cooking, and was a true animal lover of dogs, cats, and horses. When she was younger, she owned several horses and enjoyed horseback riding. She was a member of KNEA her entire teaching career, also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Joan is survived by her son, Jeff Turner, (Jodi), grandchildren, Grant, Rachel, and Tara; her son, Jamie Dodd; Archie Moore was her wonderful companion for 23 years. He helped her and stayed by her side; her sister, Judy Domke, (Kerry), her nephew, Ethan Domke, (Mindy), Dylan and Clara, her nephew, Nicolas Domke (Sarah), Josephine and Sofia; and many dear friends and family members.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 14, at 10:00 a.m. in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Herington.

Joan Lee (Iiams) Dodd-  February 2, 1943-July 21, 2021 (age 78)

&nbsp;Charles Richard Jackson, age 77, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Home Care and Hospice House. Chuck, as he was known by his family and many friends, was born on November 8, 1943, in West Lafayette, Indiana. The family moved to Manhattan in 1945 when his father accepted a position at Kansas State University. Chuck graduated from Manhattan High School in 1961, joined the Navy and was trained to fly drones. After the Navy, he joined a finance company’s management program and was an assistant office manager. Leaving the world of consumer finance, he returned to Manhattan and attended Kansas State. While attending the University he began his business endeavors by first working at and then purchasing the liquor store and adjacent car wash. He subsequently decided on a new direction by tearing down the liquor store and expanding his Aggieville car wash. He would go on to build two additional car washes, one in west Manhattan and the other on McCall Road. He sold the land on which his McCall Road car wash was located to Walmart and replaced it by building another car wash on McCall Road. In his spare time he began restoring, rebuilding and selling late model cars. He sold so many cars that the city suggested he needed a used car dealer license. He stopped selling used cars. Chuck worked with and was on the Board of Sunset Zoo and stayed involved in several other civic matters as well. He had a way of making everyone feel special and important. Chuck enjoyed life, travel, sports and especially his many friends. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Marion “Jack” and Jane Jackson. He is survived by his long-time best friend and companion Mary Ann “Mimi” Balderson of Manhattan (aka to a few as Nurse Ratchet); a brother, David Jackson and wife Laura of Arrow Rock, MO, and nephews Alec, Nathan, Caleb, and Seth; and a sister, Kathy Jackson of Wichita, KS. He will also be greatly missed by Sebastian, Owen, Prescott, and Jens Balderson and Julia and Sam Wright to whom he was lovingly known as “PaChuck.” One of his lasting legacies is the Expedition Asia Exhibit at the Sunset Zoo, for which Chuck donated the funds needed to begin its development. Joanne C. McKenna, 89, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tim Maguffee officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. The cremated remains will be buried at Skiddy Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to First Presbyterian Church. Joanne was born April 8, 1932 in Junction City, KS the daughter of John L. and Ruth L. (Smythe) Wood. Joanne graduated from the Junction City High School with the class of 1950. After graduation, she attended Marymount School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse at Geary Community Hospital for many years. She later worked as a school nurse for U.S.D. #475. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star where she served as the worthy matron. She also served on the hospital auxiliary at Geary Community Hospital and served on the board for the Geary County Health Department. Survivors include two sons, John M. Ehlers and Robert "Bob" J. Ehlers; one daughter, Susan Erichsen and her husband Harold all of Junction City, KS; one grandson, Paul Erichsen and his wife Annie of Beatrice, NE; one granddaughter, Amanda Tomlinson and husband Peter of Manhattan, KS. Lorene Esther Sinn, age 86 of Manhattan, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital.

She was born on February 27, 1935 in Manhattan, the daughter of Harry Everett and Jessie Lorene (Allen) Whitney.  She graduated from Keats Rural High School.

On February 26, 1967 in Manhattan, she married Carl Paul Sinn.  He survives of the home.

Lorene was a farm wife and a member of the Riley Presbyterian Church, where she was the church clerk, served on many boards and was a Sunday school teacher for over twenty years.  She also was a member of the Silver Creek Beneficiary Club and was a Past President of Kansas Farm Bureau.  She enjoyed raising peacocks and watching birds.



She is survived by her husband Carl Sinn; one son, Brad Sinn and wife Tammy of Manhattan; one brother, Harry Whitney, Jr. and wife Donna of Manhattan; two grandchildren, Misty Williams (Josh) and Drew Sinn and four great grandsons, Peyton Horn, Gage Williams, Koy Williams and Beau Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four infant stillborn children.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the Riley Presbyterian Church with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Riley Cemetery.

M. Dolores Muehleisen, age 90, of Manhattan, died June 1, 2021 at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community. Dolores was born March 21, 1931, in Camden, New Jersey, the daughter of Maj. Harry A. and Mildred (Wheal) Selby. Dolores and Eric E. Muehleisen were married on June 17, 1956 at Fort Lawton Chapel on the Hill. They made their home in Seattle, WA where Eric was an illustrator for the Boeing Aircraft Co. They were married for 43 years until Eric’s death in June 1999. In 1973 Eric changed careers and the family moved to Ellsworth, KS. Dolores was active with Holy Apostles Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Western Kansas. Dolores and Eric moved to Manhattan in 1980. There Eric completed his education and Dolores enjoyed working at Sears and being involved with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Dolores supported her husband as he pursued Holy Orders. This took them to Salina, KS and eventually to McPherson, KS. Dolores moved back to Manhattan in 2001. Dolores was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi, and a member of the Jaycees in Enumclaw, WA, and a member of the Daughters of the King in Manhattan, KS. Dolores was also preceded in death by her parents and one son Eric W. “Butch” in 2013.

Survivors include two children: Stephen Muehleisen, Kristin Muehleisen (Stephanie Brecheisen) all of Manhattan; four grandchildren: Shaylene, Eric, Lindsey and Victoria; and 12 great grandchildren. She attended a one room schoolhouse St. Paul Grade School in Sheridan County and Sheridan Community High School in Hoxie, Kansas and was a member of the Hoxie Methodist Church. After working a year in Hoxie, she attended Kansas State University and was crowned the National Sweetheart of the Sigma Theta Epsilon Men’s Christian Fraternity. Later, she moved to Topeka, KS where she worked several jobs often at the same time. She started her career at Montgomery Ward and was promoted to Personnel Manager. She retired in 2019 from the State of Kansas Bureau of Water Management. She moved back to Manhattan, KS where she enjoyed attending K-State athletic events and listening to the K-State Marching Band. Survivors include her daughter, Pam Grant (Richard) of Topeka; brothers, Robert Lovin (Louise), of Manhattan, Rex Lovin (Ronda), of Salina, Melvin Lovin (Kou), of Hoxie, Jack Lovin (Sylvia), of Wichita; sister-in-law, Patricia Lovin (widow of Richard), of Ellis; sisters, Mary Phillips (widow of Stanley), of Hugoton, Cynthia Gallaway (Keith), of Carbondale; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Richard Louis Worley, 94, died Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Village Manor in Abilene.

Born May 25, 1927, in Concordia, Kan., he was the son of Hugh and Millie (Daniel) Worley. He grew up on the farm in rural Formoso in Jewell County, attended a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Formoso High School. Even though he was valedictorian of his class, he did not attend graduation ceremonies because he had enlisted in the U.S. Navy and already was in boot camp, preparing to enter World War II when peace was declared.

He served on the troop ship the USS General J.C. Breckinridge in the Pacific Theatre following the end of World War II. He started officer training at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., but the end of World War II meant fewer officers were needed. After being discharged from the Navy he attended and graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan where he obtained a degree from the College of Agriculture. He made his career in ag lending and banking, primarily working for the Federal Land Bank Association of Wichita, serving as president of the Herington branch office which later was moved to Abilene in 1969.

After leaving the Federal Land Bank he obtained a realtor and broker's license and operated Worley Realty in Abilene in the 1980s. He then became a vice president at the Bank of Herington in 1984, before moving to Osborne where he and his wife Mary owned and operated Midland Business Products with stores in Osborne and Mankato. He also was a Xerox marketing representative.

After retirement he became an account representative for the Kansas Senior Times, a publication for older, active adults. In 2007, he and Mary moved back to Abilene where he shared his love of history by working for the Dickinson County Historical Society. As a young man, flying was his passion so he earned his private pilot's license and eventually owned two planes. His favorite was a Cessna 140 taildragger.

In 1958, he married Mary Catherine Pfeifer in Ellis, Kansas. They had three children, Kathy, Dale and Daniel. Over the years, they made their home in Herington, Abilene and Osborne. Mary preceded him in death in November 2007.

Survivors include daughter Kathy Hageman (Gary) of Abilene; sons, Dale Worley of Abilene and Daniel Worley (Lisette) of Osborne; grandchildren, Josh Worley (Lindy) of Osborne, Sasha Schultze (Clayton) of Osborne, Julia Worley of Manhattan, Erik Hageman of Topeka, Kelsey (Andrew) Clarke of Beloit, Raegan (Phill) Shamburg of Salina and Madison (Bobby) Bliss of Downs; 11 great-grandchildren and another on the way.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service for Richard at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021, at Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene. Cremation has taken place. In Las Vegas, Karen and Dean shared a love of horses, dogs, music and kids, giving birth to all her children in Nevada. Karen trained Brittany Spaniels after rescuing her first from the pound. They participated in field trials and hunting for upland game birds. Eventually her first dog became the first AKC registered grand champion. Karen was a founding and active member of the Southern Nevada Bird Dog Club traveling to field trials in NV, CA and AZ. Karen was active in her children’s school activities, PTO, 4 H, and local club sports. Halloween costumes were her specialty. None of the kids knew what a store-bought costume was, usually she upcycled and repurposed things from the home. Raising her children in the desert, they grew up on a steady diet of American Bandstand, Soul Train, Dark Shadows, scary movies and chores. In April 1978, the family moved internationally to Udhailiyah, Saudi Arabia. Karen became the first Woman’s Club President in the Aramco Camp and worked in the Aramco Information Center as the camp “Welcome Lady.” She also served as a liaison with the commissary facility. In 1981 Karen and Dean moved to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia where she lived until retirement in 1991. She became aware of US Military Service Men in the region who were unable to take shore leave during the Tanker War in the Persian Gulf (1981-1988). After consulting with the US Consulate Attaché and the Saudi Government, she was granted permission to organize and help foster-host all servicemen in the fleet to local Aramco homes. She constructed a Sailor’s-to-dinner program so all Sailors, Airmen, Army and Marines could come into local homes for dinner, fellowship, calls to home and relaxation. Karen loved to host parties, dress up, cook and entertain. She rarely knew a stranger, was always quick to buy toys for kids, offer help to those in need and find homes for stray pets. She became an avid scuba diver and snorkeler and enrolled her children in diving lessons, a passion that continues on in her daughter’s family. After leaving overseas and returning state side, Karen struggled with her purpose and a sense of belonging. In her later years, Karen battled with mental health issues, dementia and maintaining a healthy balance. Her children fought to get her help within the system and in her final year can attest that she was surrounded by loved ones, knew God’s grace, made peace and felt safe and loved. Karen is survived by her siblings; brother Gene Roles (Karolyn), sisters Hope Goodman, Teresa Meier (Al) and Gwen Ward. Walter R "Ron" McKenzie Sr., 82, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at his home in Junction City. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Union Lodge #7 A.F.&amp;A.M. in Junction City, KS. He married Rosemary Ann Chapman on November 11, 1961. She passed away June 18, 2019. This included time spent in Kuwait. Following his time in the military, he managed a local hotel while developing his own janitorial business that later franchised to Rainbow International in 2012. In a short period of time Rick became a Master Restorer, receiving numerous awards including Franchisee for the Year for 2015. Although proud of his awards, his passion was in teaching others and creating futures for the people around him. He did what he loved and loved what he did. Rick was an avid Nascar, Football and Soccer fan. He was a member of the 70th Armor Regiment, the Junction City Elk’s Lodge, multiple committees for the Rainbow International corporate offices, coached multiple youth sports teams, former member of Legacy Church of Grandview Plaza, and recently attending the JC Nazarene Church. He loved traveling, mountain climbing with his pals in Colorado, hunting and riding his Harley. Rick will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. On May 13, 2000 he married Kellie Boltz-Swango, Kellie survives of the home. Richard is also survived by his mother, Jean McNabb of Ootlewah, TN; Stepfather, Carl Hoffman of Panama City, FL; Daughters, Karsen Lechner of Las Vegas, NV and Brooke Swango of Junction City, KS; two Grandchildren, Madalyn and Jonas of Las Vegas, NV. Kathleen graduated from Mineola High School in Garden City Park, NY, earned her bachelors’ degree from Fredonia State University in Fredonia, NY, and her ESL Certification from Kansas State University. She was an elementary school Spanish teacher for USD#383 (1987-2006, retired) and taught French, Spanish, and Russian at Monsignor Lucky High School, as well as elementary school Spanish in the Manhattan Catholic Schools (1985-1987). During her fight with cancer, her proudest achievement was the authoring and self-publishing the children’s book ‘A Puzzled Gracie’ with proceeds donated to the Mayo Clinic of Rochester Minnesota. Upon beating cancer, Kathleen had plans to write additional children’s books to share her teachings in perpetuity. Kathleen was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and a choir member who also played the organ for Mass. She was also a member of the Pilot Club of Manhattan, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and P.E.O. On August 7, 1971, in Mineola, NY, she was married to Donald Bruce Bechtel. Dr. Bechtel survives of the home. Additional survivors include their two sons: Michael Bechtel and his wife Catherine of West Des Moines, IA, and Ryan Bechtel and his wife Kimberly of Olathe, KS; three grandchildren: Anna Grace, Macy Elaine, and Trent Robert; and two siblings: Patricia Mulligan (Thomas Mulligan) of East Northport, NY, and Robert Barnwell (Kathryn Barnwell) of San Diego, CA. Kathleen Ann Bechtel

Stephen D. Vasey, of Olsburg, Kansas passed away at the age of 74&nbsp; July 2, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on 31 October 1946. Stephen was a 1964 graduate of Dracut High school in Dracut, Massachusetts and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in History from Kansas State University in 1990. Stephen served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, including two tours of Vietnam. During his military service, he worked as a combat engineer, heavy equipment mechanic, and motor pool officer. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in 1986. The second season of his professional life included an array of different professions. Most notably, Stephen was the inventor of a thermal targeting system for the military. After full professional retirement, he discovered a love and knack for baking which he gifted to his circle of friends and medical service providers who supported him as he grappled with Agent Orange-related illnesses, a result of his war-time service. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and his church. Stephen D. Vasey, of Olsburg, Kansas passed away at the age of 74&nbsp; July 2, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on 31 October 1946. Stephen was a 1964 graduate of Dracut High school in Dracut, Massachusetts and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in History from Kansas State University in 1990. Stephen served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, including two tours of Vietnam. During his military service, he worked as a combat engineer, heavy equipment mechanic, and motor pool officer. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in 1986. The second season of his professional life included an array of different professions. Most notably, Stephen was the inventor of a thermal targeting system for the military. After full professional retirement, he discovered a love and knack for baking which he gifted to his circle of friends and medical service providers who supported him as he grappled with Agent Orange-related illnesses, a result of his war-time service. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and his church. Dr. Clyde Randolph Ferguson, age 91, resident of Manhattan since 1960, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 15th at Ascension Via Christi Hospital, surrounded by his children. Clyde was born on June 3, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Clyde Chamblee Ferguson and Zelda Ellena (Montgomery) Ferguson. Raised in Marlow, Oklahoma, he graduated Marlow High in 1949 as a three-sport letterman in football, basketball, and track. He then enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, just as his parents had done. In 1950, his National Guard unit was called into active service and he was shipped overseas as part of the United States Army’s Occupation of Japan. Subsequently, in 1951, the 179th Infantry Regiment of the 45th Division was sent to Korea where Clyde saw active combat. He was a decorated Korean War Veteran. After his military service, he returned to college and completed his Bachelor of Arts in history, graduating with honors. The University of Oklahoma and his affiliations there with Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society remained a source of friendship and connection throughout his life. During his early college years, he met the love of his life, Marilena Hedrick. She remembered being attracted to a “certain tall guy who quoted Robert Service poems” to her. They were married on June 11, 1954, by her father, Chaplain Robert Hedrick at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma. In 1955, the newlyweds moved, sight unseen, to Durham, North Carolina. Clyde entered the Masters's/Ph.D. program at Duke University while Lena began to teach elementary school. After his confirmation as a Doctor Of Philosophy of History in 1960, Clyde and Lena moved to Manhattan, Kansas, where he had accepted a teaching position at Kansas State University. He would proceed to teach 33 years of students the fundamental importance of the American Revolution. In Manhattan, Clyde and Lena became a family of five, while creating a life rich with lasting friendships, individual hobbies and pursuits, a shared love of travel, and an atmosphere of humor and laughter. Clyde was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, hunter, and golfer. He was an avid birdwatcher and his passion took him around the world to see the birds of Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Spain, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Australia ... and Pottawatomie State Lake #2. He was a veteran of countless Audubon winter bird counts and a strong supporter of the Northern Flint Hills Audubon Society. In 1985, he co-founded their primary fundraiser, the NFHAS Birdathon. He and Lena were devoted Wildcat fans and held KSU football and basketball season tickets from 1960 through 2019. They loved tailgating before games with loyal friends and celebrating at home or at the Little Apple Brewery, where Clyde held the honor of Mug #124. Clyde rejoins Marilena, who died in 2014. He is survived by his brother Jim Ferguson and sister-in-law, Susan. Clyde also leaves behind an adoring family, including his daughter Maria and wife Sheree Goecke and their daughter Alyssa Renck; son Chamblee Ferguson and his wife Lynn Blackburn and their children Mackenzie, Alexander, and Liam Ferguson; son Bob Ferguson and his wife Holly and their children Hannah Haidar, Charlotte and Phoebe Ferguson. Conchita “Connie” de Jesus was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. After telling family she was “ready to go to the party,” she quietly passed on July 15, 2021 at age 89. She was preceded in death by her husband Jose de Jesus, Sr. (1LT, U.S. Army, RET); her sister, Cecelia; and a young daughter, Joanne de Jesus. She is survived by two sons, Jose (Jacque) de Jesus, Jr., and Tony de Jesus; and two daughters, Kathy Davenport and Marilyn Tinker. She has seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Patricia Bantugan, and her dear aunt, Rita Santos. Connie worked for several years for the Housing Office at Fort Riley, KS. She was proud of the work she did there and the many people she met and worked with. But her greatest joys came later in life while serving her family and interacting in the community. Connie was well known for her award-winning baked goods, to include her famous chocolate chip cookies and carrot cake that she would gift to others during the holidays. Her legacy of great cooking and comfort food has been handed down through cherished recipes that her children and grandchildren now prepare. She enjoyed having large family gatherings where she could spoil the grandchildren, make hand-cranked home-made ice cream, and teach the art of preparing fried rice, pancit, and Filipino egg rolls. An avid Kansas City and K-State sports fan, she was known for cheering on the Chiefs, Royals, or Wildcats every weekend while wearing either her Purple Pride or KC attire. She knew game stats, the coaches, and all the players. If a team didn’t perform well, she could be heard hollering at them from her official position at couch-side. A self-proclaimed coupon queen, Connie hunted the best deals at the best prices. If she gave you a Dillon's shopping list and coupons, your mission was to ensure you received the proper discounts. Failure would dictate a return to the store for remedial couponing. She had fun re investing her coupon savings into slot machines at the nearby casino. A lifetime animal lover, her last and best furry friend is her mischievous cat, Buddy, a stray she adopted and who has surpassed his quota of nine lives. Buddy became a minor celebrity when he was featured in multiple cat calendars-one of which was a national-level publication. Connie made sure Buddy remained humble despite his fame. Connie’s wishes were to be cremated. A funeral mass at St. Xavier’s Catholic Church will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2021, with interment at Fort Riley Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Esta of Junction City; two sons, Marc Glessner of Junction City, KS and Grant Glessner of Alta Vista, KS; one step son, Philip Anderson of Junction City, KS; four grandchildren, Yesenia Anderson, Brandon Glessner, Kurtis Glessner and Cassie Glessner-Worrall; ten great-grandchildren, Trinity Murphy, Avia Glessner, Timothy Worrall, Cadie Glessner, Daniel Worrall, Mary Glessner, Walter Glessner, Waldo Glessner, Alexander Anderson and Malachi Anderson. Moonie J. Singh, 88, of Junction City, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at her home in Junction City while under Hospice Care, surrounded by her loving family. Cremation has taken place. Moonie Singh was born “Muniya Ramsawak” on May 4, 1933, on the island of Trinidad in the West Indies, the daughter of Ramsawak and Rookmin Kantu. She was the granddaughter of Indentured Servants who migrated from India to the Caribbean to work for the British in the late 1800’s. One of ten children, Moonie was raised in a family that worked hard growing rice, coffee and cocoa to survive. She was a rebel of sorts, who went against tradition and completed her schooling, took classes on creating bridal bouquets and sewing, opened her own business and refused the traditional arranged marriage that was the norm in the Indian-Hindu community. In her early 20’s, Moonie became a Born-Again Believer in Jesus Christ, a decision that would drastically change her life. Bold in her faith, she encouraged a young man named Arjoon Singh, who had quite a crush on her, to attend a Christian Crusade service. After giving his heart to Jesus, Arjoon waited for Moonie outside the Crusade tent and told her, “Moonie, you are the person who is supposed to be my wife. No one had ever told me about Jesus before you”. After years of pursuing her, Moonie finally agreed to marry him. Arjoon and Moonie were married on October 11, 1959, in Rio Claro, Trinidad. Unable to have a child of their own, during the first thirteen years of their marriage, Moonie and her husband raised many of their nieces and nephews while operating a taxi business and bridal/flower business from their home. They were both founding members of their Pentecostal church and very active in spreading the Good News about Jesus in their community. Moonie taught children Sunday school, both at church and at private homes, and later became the Sunday School Superintendent in her church. In the late 1960’s, her husband came to New York City, NY to study welding and to work. In 1971 Moonie came to visit him in NYC. After listening to preacher Oral Roberts on radio for years, she saw him on the small television in their apartment for the first time. When Oral Roberts said, “Something GOOD is going to happen to YOU today!”, Moonie placed her hands on the TV and asked God to bless her with a child. After 13 years of marriage, she became pregnant for the first time and gave birth at age 39 to her only child, Lisa. Thanks to the blessing of Lisa being born a United States Citizen, Arjoon and Moonie were able to obtain their U. S. Residency, and later their U. S. Citizenship. Moonie and her family moved permanently to New York in 1974, settling in the Niagara Falls/Buffalo area. Moonie worked for Mister Donut and then Mount Saint Mary’s Hospital, from which she retired, while being active in her local church teaching Sunday School. She cared for her husband during his six years on dialysis, and they spent the cold Buffalo winters in warm Fort Myers, Florida with family. After his death on September 13, 1999, in Buffalo, NY, Moonie moved to Lehigh Acres, Florida full-time with her daughter. Moonie was continually active in her church, New Life Assembly, helping with adult Sunday School, Ushering, and volunteering with The Bread Ministry. She also volunteered at the local hospital. In 2017, Moonie moved to Junction City, Kansas to live with her daughter and son-in-law. While Parkinson’s slowed down her body, her spirit remained strong. She loved to tell anyone and everyone she met about Jesus! Moonie loved to give and would visit neighbors with baked goods and a word of encouragement. There was not a child that crossed her path that did not walk away with candy, or some treat she had in her bag. Moonie loved going to the Geary County Senior Center, attending the exercise classes, special outings and events and fellowshipping with the Staff and other Seniors there. She loved her church family at Flint Hills Church. Most importantly, Moonie loved Jesus and was looking forward to Heaven. She desired that her life reflect Jesus and point others to Him. Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Bailey and her husband Matthew of Junction City, KS: two brothers, Mohan Maharaj of Alberta, Canada and Punka Ramsawak of Tableland, Trinidad. Normann L. Burwell, 90 passed away July 17, 2021. He was born July 20, 1930 at Manhattan, KS, the son of Walter and Lillian Burwell. He graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1948. On August 16, 1964 he married Genevieve Anguiano.

 He is survived by his wife of the home, son, David Cress (Dee), Daughter Liz Alvarez (Mark Larson). Three granddaughters, Caitlin Wallace (Grant), Becca Fritch (Garrett) and Karli Alvarez. One great-granddaughter Metilda Marie Wallace. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Perry Donald Burwell and sister Lucille Burwell Norris.

Robert Joseph (Joe) Foltz was born on September 29, 1927 to Edward Joseph Foltz and Ethel (Van Dyke) Foltz. He went to be with the Lord July 17, 2021. His father passed away when he was a baby and he was raised by his mother in Abilene and Topeka. He attended McKinley Grade School and Abilene Jr. High until his mother transferred to Topeka in 1939. He attended Topeka High School where he excelled in basketball and track, and was a lifelong sports fan. In 1944, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific aboard the destroyer McCaffery. After the war, Joe enjoyed playing basketball on the Navy team, traveling to various college campuses and occasionally to Mexico. When his enlistment was up he returned to his favorite place and farmed with his uncle Herman and aunt Laura Felbush. On August 21 1949, Joe was united in marriage to Donna Mae Ming in Abilene, and to this union nine children were born. Donna unexpectedly passed away on November 17, 1963. Joe was active in the New Basel Church where he served as a Deacon. He helped organize the Rural Center Ball Club where all nine children played ball. He was on the Rural Center school board when the school was organized and built. Joe drove a school bus, helped his children with their projects at the Holland Sunflower 4-H Club, and enjoyed their fair projects each summer. Joe also farmed, raised registered Angus cattle, buffalo, hogs, chickens, peacocks, goats, horses and pigeons. On October 19, 1969 Joe was united in marriage to Naoma Schmutz Heller, and she and her four children joined his family. In 1985, Joe started a Calf Care Center with his son Gary, and eventually turned the farm and cattle business over to him in 2004. Joe and Naoma then moved from the farm to Abilene in 2013. Joe is survived by his wife Naoma, children; Kathy (Ron) Lehnerz, Arizona, Edward (Marilyn),Abilene Stan, Abilene Jody Ford, Arizona Peggy Swanson, Salina Casey (Jane),Abilene Gary (Deb),Abilene Lauri (Harold) Terry, Salina Sherri (James) Hedstrom, Chapman Sally (Dave) Eshelman, Topeka Randy (Kris) Heller, Chapman Ron (Nancy) Heller, Abilene Bruce (Penni) Heller, St. John, 34 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, his sister Jane Tharp from Topeka, sister in law Clarine Robson, Abilene, brother in law Glen Holt, Seattle Washington, many nieces, nephews and friends. Matthew C. Troy, age 55, of Ogden, died July 13, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan. He was born August 14, 1965, at Fort Riley, the son of John Edward and Carole Florence (Russell) Troy. Matt graduated from Manhattan High School in in 1983 and then joined Army Active Reserves for three years. Matt then attended Manhattan Area Vo-Tech and graduated in welding. Matt worked for LG Barcus and Sons as a Construction Superintendent for deep foundations, and worked all over the country for his work. He was a volunteer for the Volunteer Fire Department in Ogden for more than 20 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ogden, Knights of Columbus, Union Local # 1290, and a former member of the Ogden American Legion. Matt was a very proud father, loved to hunt, to smoke all kinds of meat and food on his smoker, and loved all babies and was a baby whisperer. On August 16, 1997, in Ogden, he was married to Janet Renae Martin. Janet survives of the home. Darlene was a manager for a fast-food restaurant in Wyoming for 5 years and worked at Derby Food Center at Kansas State University for 17 years. She enjoyed all arts and crafts and was an avid volunteer and volunteered for RSVP, Homecare &amp; Hospice, United Way, Flint Hills Breadbasket, Riley County Seniors’ Service Center and the Chamber of Commerce. In short Darlene loved to help others. He graduated from Valley Center High Class of 1964 and then attended Oklahoma State for 1 ½ years where he played football. He married Linda Gayle Fransham on August 27, 1967, at Valley Center United Methodist Church. He attended Wichita State University while working at Boeing. He finished up his college degree at Friends University in Wichita where he also played football.

Charles taught science and driver’s education in Florence, Marion and Goddard, Kansas. He was a farmer/rancher and a real estate broker. He attended Eastmoor United Methodist, was a member of Lions Club, National Board of Realtors and Marion Advancement Campaign. He enjoyed playing cards and billiards. Most of all he loved attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events.

&nbsp;His loving family includes his wife, Linda of the home; sons and their wives, Dirk and Tonya Kannady of Haysville, Kansas, Eric and Lindsay Kannady of Manhattan, Dax and Emily Kannady of Pilsen; brother, Jimmy Kannady of Valley Center; sister, Teresa Kannady of Benton, Kansas; three grandchildren, Rylie, Avery and Gage Kannady.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Cynthia Kannady. Charles passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at the age of 76 years old.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronnie Mack Moncrief Sr. in 1996. Ronnie passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021 at the Geary Community Hospital in Junction City, Kansas.

Dona “Jane” was born on April 10, 1933, the daughter of Dwight Custer and Mable Pearl (Jones) Stevens in Satanta, Kansas. She graduated from Florence High Class of 1951 and married Earl Russell Mann on June 23, 1951, in the Florence United Methodist Church.

Jane was vice president of a jewelry company based in Chicago. She enjoyed designing jewelry for 25 years, including for the Miss Kansas and Miss America Pageants. For 28 years she held her realtor and real estate broker licenses. She was a member of Unity Church and the Association of Realtors and was listed in the Who’s Who for Women in Business directory. In her younger days she worked at the soda fountain at the drug store in Florence. She also rode horses and participated in parades, was a drum major and also a band majorette. She enjoyed dancing, playing the piano, crocheting, crossword puzzles, traveling, playing cards, sewing, selling Real Estate and jewelry. Most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and would attend as many of their events as she could.

Her loving family includes her children, Nedra (William) Olenick of Halstead, Doug (Vici) Mann, Darla Diamond, Don (Angel) Mann all of Wichita; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl in 2015; sister, Esther Sinclair; brother, Dewy Stevens; and her beloved dog, Mr. Angel. Jane passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the age of 88 years old.

Her family will gather with friends on Thursday, July 22, from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, 205 Elm Street, Marion, Kansas. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 23, at 11:00 a.m. (early viewing at 10:00 a.m.) at Ridgepoint Church, 8000 W. 21st, Wichita, Kansas 67205.
