Damien is survived by his mother, Patricia Wertzberger (Bud Wheeler) of Scottsdale, AZ; his father, Frederick Robert (Bob) Bramlage (Theresa Bramlage) of Junction City, KS; his handsome, and yet quite beautiful, 12 year old twin sons, Maximus John Bramlage and Benjamin Frederick Bramlage of Denver, CO; Step Brother, Karl Wertzberger (Jeni Wertzberger) of Arizona; Step Sister, Kirsten Wertzberger Krug (Robin Krug) of Lawrence, KS ; Fiancée, Juli Farinelli of Tempe, AZ; Aunt and Uncle Bob and Dorothy Willcoxon of Joplin, MO; Uncles Bill Waters of Manhattan, KS, Jim Waters and Lenny Waters of McDowell Creek, KS, Rick Waters of Junction City, KS and Michael Waters of Gilman, IL. Damien is also survived by 15 cousins and numerous loving friends who were more like family to him.

Damien is preceded in death by his Grandparents, Fred and Dorothy Bramlage formerly of Junction City; Grandparents, Leonard and Virginia Waters formerly of McDowell Creek, KS; Step-Father John Wertzberger formerly of Lawrence, KS; his brother Ron, Ron’s wife Becky, and their children Brandon, Boston, Beau, and Roxanne formerly of Junction City, KS; his Uncle Paul Bramlage, formerly of Leavenworth, KS. Damien was a graduate of Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kansas and a graduate of Colorado State University. Damien was brilliant, beautiful, full of energy and life. He always enjoyed every moment that he was experiencing at the time. He was funny, creative, and kind. He had a wonderful sense of humor; he often played pranks and wasn’t afraid to laugh at himself. His days were inspired by wanting to always try new experiences and meet new people. He was charming and people were drawn to him. Damien and his fiancée Juli, owned and operated a custom pet care business and they both enjoyed animal rescue and helping the elderly. He had a great business mindset and created several companies throughout his life. Damien was best in class as an adventurer. He engaged in activities such as traveling, snowboarding, skateboarding, rock climbing, tennis, biking, camping, hiking, fishing, motorcycling, and as a certified deep sea diver he loved snorkeling and scuba diving. He was also a bit of a daredevil and took pleasure in bungee jumping and sky diving. He loved to cook and always wanted to attend festivals or try new restaurants. Damien had an affinity for the ocean and all things in it; he especially took pleasure in diving and swimming with sea turtles. He loved looking at stars and could tell anyone every constellation in the sky. Like his father and brother, Damien had an appreciation for classic cars and motorcycles. Most of all, Damien was a fighter and fought bravely the last few years of his life. In those moments when he was challenged the most, he selflessly never gave up. His will and determination were unmatchable and through it all he was brave for his family and his friends. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2021 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Kerry Ninemire officiating. It is with great sadness that the family of William (Bill) Joseph Anderes of Hope, Kansas, announce his passing on Sunday, July 4th, 2021. Bill just recently celebrated his 68th birthday. Bill was the eldest child of Vincent and Virginia Anderes and was to be followed by eight other siblings. Bill was a graduate of Chapman High School and then attended the Salina Area Vo-Tech.

Bill spent most of his career as a mechanic in the Elmo community and was one of the best. Bill could fix almost anything-didn’t matter what it was – big or small. He never knew a stranger and would give anyone the shirt off his back even if it meant he had none. He was kind-hearted and had a generous soul. Even at his death Bill was still thinking of others and was able to help the lives of others through cornea/eye donation through the Saving Sight Foundation.

Bill is survived by his three children, John, Stacy and Leigh and several grand children and great grand children. He eight brothers and sisters Rhonda Foth, Greg (Sharon); Diane Shoemaker (Rodney); Yvonne Woodall (Dennis); Kim Svoboda (Kevin); Mark (Jill); Mike and Lisa Elliott and lots of nieces and nephews.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Virginia Anderes. He will be sadly missed by his family.

Rosary will be recited on Thursday, July 8th at 6:00 p.m. at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. Betty J. Hampton, 91, of Abilene passed away July 5, 2021 at Abilene Place surrounded by family. She was born June 28, 1930 in Abilene, the daughter of Russell and Ora (Lowry) Neher. She grew up in Abilene and attended the local schools. Betty was a homemaker.

On February 6, 1951 she was united in marriage to Peter W. Hampton in Abilene. He preceded her in death June 9, 2020. They returned to Abilene after Pete was stationed in Florida. They moved into 804 NW 2nd just down the block from Pete’s parents. This was their home for 60 years. Great times and many wonderful memories for family and friends include front porch sitting, having coffee and cookies in the kitchen, and dinner parties with the good china in the dining room.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Doug) Crumpton and their children Allyson (Jonathan) Maestas and their children, Isabel, Maisyn and Trey. Scott (Hannah) Crumpton and their daughter Addison. Mary Crumpton and Jordan Crumpton. One son, Paul (Linda) Hampton and their children Zack and Jess Hampton, Marty Mead, Mark Mead, and his three children Austin, Ethan and Matthew; and Suzanna and Bill Goatcher and Kaitlyn and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anthony “Tony” Francis Schneweis, age 56, of Manhattan died June 30, 2021, at Select Specialty Hospital – St. Francis in Wichita. He was born October 29, 1964, in Great Bend, Kansas; the son of Bernard and Dolores (Hoffman) Schneweis. Tony served 20 years in the United States Navy retiring as an E6 in 2005. He received the following awards: Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal 4th award, Navy Good Conduct Medal 5th award, Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal 2nd award, Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon 2nd award, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Artic Service Ribbon, Navy Pistol Marksmanship Medal, Submarine Warfare Pin and a Letter of Commendation from Submarine Squadron Eight. Tony served in the following submarines and commands: USS Jacksonville SSN669, USS L. Mendel Rivers SSN386, USS Alexandria SSN757, USS Annapolis SSN760, Submarine Development Group One, Defense Liaison Division West Coast Support Detachment, USS Chicago SSN721 and the Tactical Readiness Team US Pacific Fleet. Following his honorable discharge he moved to Lawrence, Kansas. He worked at Apria Healthcare on CPAP Machines. In 2007 he moved to Manhattan, Kansas. He attended Barton County Community College and did further studies at Kansas State University. He was active in the churches he attended, Calvary Chapel Manhattan and Grace Baptist Church. He worked at Dillons, GTM, and Travalum Trailers by Liberty Inc. Tony was an amateur radio operator, N0WTN. He was an Elvis fan, enjoyed traveling, liked to watch hockey and Manchester United F.C. He also enjoyed watching several different Youtubers and loved cats. He was married to Robin Lynn Winter on June 21, 1996, in Martinez, California. Tony is survived by his wife Robin and his two sons: Rian Winter of Wamego, KS, and Steiner Schneweis of the home. He is also survived by five brothers: Leon of Lawrence, KS, Richard of Claflin, KS, Mark of Fallon, NV, Paul and Michael, both of Great Bend, KS. Tony was preceded in death by his parents Bernard Schneweis and Dolores (Hoffman) Schneweis, his brother Alan Schneweis and Bernadette Schneweis in infancy. Jace Ryan Ward, 22 of Wamego, Kansas entered heaven surrounded by his family and friends on July 3rd, 2021 at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, St. Louis, MO after his courageous 25 month battle with Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma brain cancer.

Jace was born on February 18, 1999 to Jimmy (Roger) Ward and Lisa M. Ward in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; Jace is the youngest child and brother to Blake Ward and Brooke Ward.&nbsp; Jace enjoyed a fantastic childhood in Inman, Kansas leaving many memories of adventures with Brooke and Blake, traveling sports teams and every friend he gathered along the way.&nbsp; He moved to Wamego, Kansas in 2010 at age 12.&nbsp;

Jace graduated from Wamego High School in 2017 where he played football as the hard hitting and fiercely competitive #2. &nbsp;He filled our home with laughter and friends who he constantly brought together.&nbsp; Jace attended the University of Kansas, receiving a Law Education Accelerated Degree Scholarship and Business Scholars Program Scholarship.&nbsp; In May 2019 he received his Associates of Arts degree from Highland Community College.&nbsp; After diagnosis of DIPG, Jace transferred his studies to Kansas State University where he remained a scholarship student in business entrepreneurship until his passing.

Jace loved football, the KC Chiefs, a good party, time at the lake with friends and above everything spending time with those he loved. He never lacked confidence to make a first impression, Jace was authentically himself.

Jace was employed part time by Emerson Collective, Palo Alto, CA as a member of the Health team advocating, investing and granting funds to combat rare cancer.&nbsp; In the last two years of his life, he keynoted a Congressional Briefing on DIPG, spoke to the NIH on patient ownership of genomic data, and regularly brought together foundations to partner with him on visions he had to fill gaps in research and patient navigation.&nbsp; He inspired to date nearly $5 Million in funding for pediatric brain cancer research and treatment.&nbsp; Jace became a childhood brain tumor advocate always putting the need to advance science and protect younger kids and their legacies before his own.&nbsp; While he was often described by others as a beacon of hope and light in the DIPG Community, to Jace, he was simply doing what anyone would do, making it a little easier for the next family.

The name Jace means “the Healer” and as our family and friends reflect on Jace’s legacy words like fiercely loyal, accepting of all, best hugs ever, helped us discover the best in ourselves were consistent themes.&nbsp; Jace had the unique combination of intelligence, compassion and drive.&nbsp; He was courageous, independent, determined and accepting no matter what your background. A good heart and authenticity were all Jace required to join his tribe.&nbsp;&nbsp; Jace rests now with our Lord who promises us “that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28.

He coined the phrase #I can’t die, I’m busy.&nbsp; Now more than ever Jace’s phrase rings true.&nbsp; His unique work to bring awareness cannot die, he implored us to all stay busy spreading awareness, helping the next families and funding research for DIPG.&nbsp; He hoped one day, a child will hear you have DIPG, but don’t worry we know how to treat it.&nbsp; He would tell us often, push forward, enjoy the good times fully and just love people.&nbsp;

Jace leaves behind an army of those who love him fiercely.&nbsp; His parents Roger and Lisa Ward of Wamego; Brother Blake (Lauren) Ward and nephew Asher Ward, and Brooke Ward all of Lenexa; two young men he thought of as brothers, Justin (Jay) Rice and Kaine Farr of Lawrence.&nbsp;&nbsp; Grandparents Dan and Agnes Ward and Loren and Dorothy Streiner all of Wamego, and Sheri Moore of San Marcos, TX; Great grandmother Nell Ward, Russell Springs, KY; Aunts and Uncles Jol and Sherri Klein and Jeff and Debbie Hoffman of Wamego; Cousins Gabby (Daniel) Jensen, Mollie (Patrick) Hobbs and their son Kessler, Jakob Klein, Brianna and Josh Hoffman as well as over 200 very close cousins in Kansas, Kentucky and Ohio.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Jace’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, July 9 at 2:00 p.m., at Trinity Baptist Church of Wamego, with visitation held at the church Thursday, July 8 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.&nbsp; Per his wishes, the casket will remain closed throughout services, and will be in-state at the church for respect calls on Thursday beginning at 2:00 p.m. A private family burial will follow at Wamego Cemetery.&nbsp; Friends and family are invited to join together for the “Happiest Hour” just as Jace directed at Rockin K Grill, 1880 Kimball, Ste 100, Manhattan, KS beginning at 3:00 pm on Friday.

Ward in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; Jace is the youngest child and brother to Blake Ward and Brooke Ward.&nbsp; Jace enjoyed a fantastic childhood in Inman, Kansas leaving many memories of adventures with Brooke and Blake, traveling sports teams and every friend he gathered along the way.&nbsp; He moved to Wamego, Kansas in 2010 at age 12.&nbsp;Jace graduated from Wamego High School in 2017 where he played football as the hard hitting and fiercely competitive #2. &nbsp;He filled our home with laughter and friends who he constantly brought together.&nbsp; Jace attended the University of Kansas, receiving a Law Education Accelerated Degree Scholarship and Business Scholars Program Scholarship.&nbsp; In May 2019 he received his Associates of Arts degree from Highland Community College.&nbsp; After diagnosis of DIPG, Jace transferred his studies to Kansas State University where he remained a scholarship student in business entrepreneurship until his passing.Jace loved football, the KC Chiefs, a good party, time at the lake with friends and above everything spending time with those he loved. He never lacked confidence to make a first impression, Jace was authentically himself.Jace was employed part time by Emerson Collective, Palo Alto, CA as a member of the Health team advocating, investing and granting funds to combat rare cancer.&nbsp; In the last two years of his life, he keynoted a Congressional Briefing on DIPG, spoke to the NIH on patient ownership of genomic data, and regularly brought together foundations to partner with him on visions he had to fill gaps in research and patient navigation.&nbsp; He inspired to date nearly $5 Million in funding for pediatric brain cancer research and treatment.&nbsp; Jace became a childhood brain tumor advocate always putting the need to advance science and protect younger kids and their legacies before his own.&nbsp; While he was often described by others as a beacon of hope and light in the DIPG Community, to Jace, he was simply doing what anyone would do, making it a little easier for the next family.The name Jace means “the Healer” and as our family and friends reflect on Jace’s legacy words like fiercely loyal, accepting of all, best hugs ever, helped us discover the best in ourselves were consistent themes.&nbsp; Jace had the unique combination of intelligence, compassion and drive.&nbsp; He was courageous, independent, determined and accepting no matter what your background. Jenny Lynn Rossing, age 28 of Clay Center, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021 in Clay Center.

She was born on February 2, 1993 in Clay Center, the daughter of Rowdan Ray and Jandrea Sue (Siebold) Rossing.  She graduated in 2011 from Clay Center Community High School where she played volleyball and basketball.  Following high school, she graduated from Bellus Academy in Manhattan.

Jenny was a ray of sunshine and had a bubbly personality who loved spending time with her family and friends.  She enjoyed cruising the country back roads and was a friend to many and could lift anyone’s spirit.

She is survived by her father, Rowdan Rossing; her mother, Jandrea Siebold; two sisters, Elizabeth White and Kelee Siebold; three brothers, Devin Siebold, Linden Rossing and Rowdy Rossing, Jr.; her boyfriend, Sheldon Pfizenmaier; grandmother, Betty Siebold; grandfather, Leonard Stogsdill and her Great Dane, Capone.

She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Sandy Stogsdill and a grandfather, Gary Siebold.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Eva Louise French was born on April 15, 1927, to Thearon E. and Gladys I. French in Carlton, Kansas. She spent her early years growing up on the Cornell Ranch in Carlton. She also attended Carlton Grade School before moving to Abilene, Kansas as a teen. There she attended Abilene High School. Eva united in marriage with Jesse Dean Bogart on October 27, 1946, in Abilene, Kansas. Their union was blessed with two children, a son Steven and a daughter, Rhonda. Dean and Eva raised their family in Carlton before moving to Abilene in 1966. Eva worked for many years at Ben Franklin 5&amp;10 Cent Store in Abilene earning $1 an hour. She always said she really enjoyed meeting and visiting with people during her time there, but when an opportunity arose for Eva to make more money, she accepted a position with Westinghouse Lighting in Salina. While the work was hard and the hours were long, some of her coworkers became close, lifelong friends. Among those were Sandy Patee, Juanita Anderson, Carol Pfeiffer, Carol Cadillo, Marlene Nelson, Alice Ryan, Mary Kay Kuntz and Phyllis Gardenhire. In 1976, Dean and Eva moved to Salina, Kansas to be closer to work. They became next door neighbors to the son of Eva’s best friend from Carlton, Duane Hobson. Eva’s family always felt the comfort of knowing that Duane was just next door. He stepped up to the plate many times when Eva’s family was too far away. They will be forever grateful to him for all the assistance he provided at a moment’s notice. Eva also began making a weekly trip to The Corner Cottage hair salon in Salina where Sarah Duffy styled her hair for the next 43 years. They too became lifelong friends. Eva retired from Westinghouse (Phillips Lighting) in 1989. Her remaining years were spent enjoying some of her favorite hobbies which included crocheting, fishing and playing with her 5 grandchildren, Libby, Thearon, Kasey, Kris and Kelly and her 13 greatgrandchildren. Eva is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Dean, son Steven, daughter-in-law, Anita, grandson Kody, her parents and 4 brothers and sisters. She is survived by daughter Rhonda Goodin (Mike) of Derby, Kansas, granddaughter Libby Wray of Newton, Kansas and grandsons, Thearon Wray (Jamie) of Oxford, Kansas, Kasey Bogart of Salina, Kansas, Kristopher Bogart (Katie), of rural Abilene, Kansas, Kelly Bogart (Kayla) of rural Abilene, Kansas and her 13 greatgrandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Jacqueline Ann Frintrup, age 81, of Manhattan, died Friday July 2, 2021 at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan. Jackie was born on April 7, 1940 in St. Louis City, Missouri, the daughter of Walter and Anne (Doyle) Spengler. She grew up in the area and graduated from Jennings High School with the class of 1958. She worked for many years for the Girl Scouts’ Council as a Field Director in Kansas and Missouri. Jackie was known by her grandkids as “Mimi” and she loved that her family and her families’ friends and people just knew her as Mimi. She enjoyed being with her family as often as she could. The holidays and family vacations together were always important to Jackie. She was a member of the National Girl Scouts Organization, the Manhattan Welcome Club, and the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. Jackie also was involved with the Flint Hills Breadbasket and always supported the American Red Cross. Mimi was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Casey Licklider and Nichole Licklider.

She is survived by her daughters: Susan Adams (Mitch) of Westmoreland and Stacy Licklider of St. George. Mimi is also survived by her grandchildren: Shelby Callaway (Brandon), Shane Adams (his fiancé Pam Heiman), Dalton Licklider, and Carter Licklider; her great-grandchildren, Madelyn Licklider and Amelia Callaway. Deborah Lee Guibor Worden,&nbsp;74, of Wamego, Kansas, died Friday, June 25, 2021, at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on September 5, 1946, the daughter of George Guibor of Missouri and June Williams of California.

She was a loving mother of several beautiful children and 2 of her children have already passed away. Leeanne Faith Dancer of California, Jennifer Trina Lucas of California. Both daughters of Deborah sadly fought their own battles with cancer and passed away. The other two children Jennifer Smith (Dan Pittenger) Ivan Smith (Robyn Rexroat Smith) are the remaining survivors of Deborah.

She had a business called The Starving Artist. She was an artist who painted dragons and unicorns. She was well known for her figure ice skater stained glass piece for Kansas and her windmill pieces also in a museum.

Deborah very much loved her children. Deborah and her late husband Jack Worden who passed in 2019 had a Boy Scout troop for the handicapped children in Wamego. They had a roofing business, Worden Roofing. Deborah also help run Black Cat Video Games in Wamego. She helped so many people in the community and She will be dearly missed. Helen’s life began on July 31, 1932, in Herington.  She was the daughter of Henry and Lydia (Peil) Ruppel.  Helen was a 1950 graduate of Herington High School.  She was united in marriage to Walter William “Bill” Utech, Jr. on August 26, 1951, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington.  Helen was a farm wife and homemaker.  She was a great caregiver to her five children and husband.  Helen was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid group and helped serve many funeral dinners.  She had also been a member of EHU in Herington.

  Her greatest joy was her family which includes her children Jonathan (Marlene) Utech of Manhattan, Dan Utech of New Cambria, Tim (Tonya) Utech of Herington and David (Linda) Utech of Weatherford, TX; grandchildren Brandon, Alan and Sarah Utech, Alicia (Nick) Vaughn, Anna (Joel) Hanson, Alison (Bradley)Smith, Tristan (Jake) Kirkland, Tyson (Nora) Utech, Nick (Patty) Utech, Brooke and Christopher Utech; great grandchildren Aria, Kayra, Brooklyn, Colt, Sydney, Sawyer, Samuel and Eleanor.

  Helen passed away on Monday July 5, 2021, at Salina Regional Health Center.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, daughter Susan Dudley, grandchildren Jennifer and Bret Utech, brothers Kenneth and Lawrence Ruppel, and sisters Betty Brown and Donna Kniebel.

Helen Verene (Ruppel) Utech - July 31, 1932-July 5, 2021 (age 88)

Tracy’s life began on May 31, 1966, in Marion.  He was the son of Lyndon and Neva (Kelsey) Hett.  Tracy was baptized at the Aulne Church in high school. He is a 1984 graduate of Marion High School.  Tracy was united in marriage to Geraldine Bresson on March 16, 1996, in Las Vegas.  He worked with his dad for 11 years at Aulne Grain prior to starting Trace of Copper in 1990.  Tracy loved creating unique artwork in his shop at Trace of Copper and was well known as a gifted artist.  He was a huge KU Jayhawk fan, an avid hunter and fisherman.  Tracy grew a bountiful garden every year, competing with his dad for the largest onion, as well as being a “chicken grower.” His loving family includes his wife of 25 years Geraldine of Marion, daughter Allison Hett of Marion; parents Lyndon and Neva Hett of Marion; siblings Travis Hett of Moundridge and Dusty (Misty) Hett of Marion; nieces and nephews Ashley (Steven) Honeycutt, Jeffrey Hett, Brittany Hett, and Koby Hett; great nieces and great nephews Aaron Honeycutt, Brooke Honeycutt and Julian Honeycutt.

  Tracy passed away at his home on Thursday July 1, 2021.  His family will gather with friends on Friday July 16th at 11 a.m. at the Shelter House on the East side of Marion County Lake (look for green tents) for his Celebration of Life led by Pastor Jeff Lee of the Aulne Church. Tracy’s life began on May 31, 1966, in Marion. He was the son of Lyndon and Neva (Kelsey) Hett. Tracy was baptized at the Aulne Church in high school. He is a 1984 graduate of Marion High School. Tracy was united in marriage to Geraldine Bresson on March 16, 1996, in Las Vegas. He worked with his dad for 11 years at Aulne Grain prior to starting Trace of Copper in 1990. Tracy loved creating unique artwork in his shop at Trace of Copper and was well known as a gifted artist. He was a huge KU Jayhawk fan, an avid hunter and fisherman. Tracy grew a bountiful garden every year, competing with his dad for the largest onion, as well as being a “chicken grower.” His loving family includes his wife of 25 years Geraldine of Marion, daughter Allison Hett of Marion; parents Lyndon and Neva Hett of Marion; siblings Travis Hett of Moundridge and Dusty (Misty) Hett of Marion; nieces and nephews Ashley (Steven) Honeycutt, Jeffrey Hett, Brittany Hett, and Koby Hett; great nieces and great nephews Aaron Honeycutt, Brooke Honeycutt and Julian Honeycutt. Tracy passed away at his home on Thursday July 1, 2021. His family will gather with friends on Friday July 16th at 11 a.m. at the Shelter House on the East side of Marion County Lake (look for green tents) for his Celebration of Life led by Pastor Jeff Lee of the Aulne Church. Gale had a great love for both Disneyworld and Disneyland, even going as far as to interview for a zoo position at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in its earliest days.  Gale was an animal caregiver at heart and certainly enjoyed smoking his cigars.

  He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Shipman of Marion; siblings Ron (Connie) Shipman of Marion, and Pam (Martin) Sharp of Wichita; nephews and nieces Paul (Lori) Shipman, Lenn (Andi) Shipman, Brett (Angela) Sharp and Chad Sharp.  Gale passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.  He is preceded in death by his parents. Wanda Maxine Schlappy, a resident of Chapman, Kansas passed away at her home in Chapman on June 27, 2021 at the age of 95. Wanda was born October 27, 1925, at rural Wakefield, Kansas. Mary Jean Wilson of Abilene passed away on June 30. Mary Jean was born October 20, 1932 to Timothy Vincent (TV) and Agnes (Bonfield) Harrington in Solomon. She spent her childhood in Solomon, graduating from Solomon High School in 1950. She then attended Marymount College for one year and worked at Commercial Credit in Salina. Mary Jean married Warren Wilson in August 1954 and settled on a farm south of Abilene to embark on her most important career, raising a family of 8 children. She was also an active member in the community including St Andrews Catholic Church. After the kids were grown, new adventures with Warren included travel, their own Chisholm Trail Antique store, and board member of the Dickinson County Republican Women’s Club and Old Abilene Town.

Mary Jean is preceded in death by her parents, husband Warren, and dear infant daughter Jane. Survivors include sisters Bonnie Blyton, Lexington, KY, Betty Garrard, Winter Haven, FL, and Patricia Fadden, Palm Coast, FL: sons Mark and wife Teresa Wilson (Bryan, Chris, Devin), Greg and wife Marcia Wilson (Hannah, Hilary), David and wife Julie Wilson (John, Matt, Sarah), Evan and wife Annette (Kelly, Jordan) all of Abilene, Jeff and Nancy Wilson (Ben, Jacob) of Lees Summit, MO: daughters Martha Strunk (Aaron, Kale, McKenzie) of Abilene, and Julie and Brent Milleson (Nolan, Alex), Owosso, OK. Larry Wayne Haag died June 30, 2021. He was born January 13, 1953 to Ernest Nicholas and Kathryn Audrey Scott Haag. He was raised on the family farm in Morris County, the youngest of 6 children.&nbsp; He attended Alta Vista Elementary School and graduated from Council Grove High School in 1971. Larry spent most of his life as a carpenter and working the family farm with his Dad, then owning the farm – farming and raising cattle.

Larry was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, LeRoy Haag and Edwin Haag, two brothers-in-law, Stan Meares and Dan Leary. He is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Meares, Manhattan, Dee Leary, Emporia, one brother Mike Haag and wife Linda, Emporia, and a sister-in-law Barbara Haag, Emporia and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves a host of friends.

Al Straub, 69, died March 10, 2021 in Lincoln, NE.&nbsp; He was born February 21, 1952 in Wamego, the son of Otto J. and Arleen (Immenschuh) Straub. &nbsp;Al grew up in Clay Center, graduating from CCCHS in 1972.&nbsp; He served in the Army National Guard from 1972-1993.&nbsp; He married Debra Dunn on June 9, 1973 and they later divorced.&nbsp; Al then married Janice Kahrs on April 28, 1990 and she preceded him in death on June 5, 2012.&nbsp; He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Clay County Highway Department for 39 years, retiring in 2019 and he also worked part time at Pamida and Kier’s.

Al never knew a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile and a piece of candy.&nbsp; He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles Lodge and Elks Lodge. &nbsp;He is preceded in death by his parents, great grandson, Brillyn; 3 sisters, Barbara Straub, Philomena Straub and Louise Hoffsett; 3 brothers, Raphael, Delafield, and Arthur.

P. LaShelle Pennell, age 60, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully in her home from cervical cancer on June 26, 2021. LaShelle was born July 18, 1960 in Manhattan. She Graduated from Manhattan High School class of 1978. LaShelle owned Street Corner News in the Manhattan Town Center for many years and then went on to managing the Daras over the viaduct. LaShelle, daughter of Thomas Holder(wife Betty) and Patricia Holder; sister of Kim Whitley and Christy Newman; and her companion of the home, Charles Shelby. She is survived by her two daughters, Crystal Bachoritch and her companion Adam Naillieux and Adam's son Tristian, Savannah Greeley and her husband Kenneth Greeley, and ‘grand-baby’ Rylynn. LaShelle was a devoted daughter, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed singing both around the house and with her father and his band, playing her guitar, dancing, reading, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Shelly was the hardest working, selfless, caring, strong, and stubborn woman we all had the honor of knowing. She will be incredibly missed. On Saturday June 26, 2021, Carolyn Kay Spencer entered Heaven’s Gate.  She was born Carolyn Kay Shipman on February 15, 1944.  Carolyn was the daughter of Orris and Audine (Arnold) Shipman.  She was a 1962 graduate of Florence High School.  She was united in marriage 59 years ago to Edmond Spencer on May 24, 1962.  Carolyn, Edmond and their family have owned and operated the Town and Country Café in Florence for the last 25 years.  She loved playing on her computer and enjoyed singing.  Carolyn was the official grandchild spoiler and did a great job of it.  She enjoyed cooking and fishing with the family.

  Carolyn and Edmond have three children Matt Spencer, Eddie Spencer and Becky Spencer; she was like a mother to her “Daughter in Loves” Darla Spencer and Kelley Spencer and son in law Bruce Fetrow.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved her without exception; Dallas Wells, Kasey Orlik, Hunter Spencer, Kaylyn Spencer, Dakota Spencer, Shyla Harris, Shyann Harris, Lillianna Salamoni- Harris and Barrett Orlik.  Carolyn was met in Heaven by her parents, and numerous brothers and sisters.  She gave love and received love from everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed and always loved.

  Carolyn’s family will gather with friends on Friday July 2, 2021, at the Christian Church of Florence for her funeral service led by Pastor Mitchell Diemer. Carolyn was the official grandchild spoiler and did a great job of it. She enjoyed cooking and fishing with the family. Carolyn and Edmond have three children Matt Spencer, Eddie Spencer and Becky Spencer; she was like a mother to her “Daughter in Loves” Darla Spencer and Kelley Spencer and son in law Bruce Fetrow. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren loved her without exception; Dallas Wells, Kasey Orlik, Hunter Spencer, Kaylyn Spencer, Dakota Spencer, Shyla Harris, Shyann Harris, Lillianna Salamoni- Harris and Barrett Orlik. Carolyn was met in Heaven by her parents, and numerous brothers and sisters. She gave love and received love from everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed and always loved. Carolyn’s family will gather with friends on Friday July 2, 2021, at the Christian Church of Florence for her funeral service led by Pastor Mitchell Diemer. She will be laid to rest in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence following the service. Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion is serving the family. Carolyn Kay (Shipman) Spencer - February 15, 1944-June 26, 2021 (age 77)

Rebecca “Becky” (Cosby) Clerisse, 76, passed on June 19, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene, Kansas. She was born on May 6, 1945 in Fort Scott, Kansas to Harley and Kathryn (Correll) Cosby. Becky graduated from Arkansas City, KS high school in 1963. In 1971 she moved to Orange County, California until she moved back to Kansas in 2004. Her beloved husband, Al, the love of her life, of Lake Arrowhead, California preceded her in death, in 2003. She was also preceded her in death by her parents.

Becky was always known by her enthusiasm, joy, and her love of life. Her motto was laughter. She greatly influenced her nieces and nephew, Jennifer Wilson, Rebecca (Wilson) Diaz, Jeremy Cosby, Jessica (Cosby) Martinez and Justine Cosby, by sharing memorable journeys and activities with them. She also absolutely adored her pets.

Becky is survived by a son, Dr. Skyler McCurley age 53, a Pediatrician in Lynchburg, Virginia.

She will be missed by her sister, Susan (Cosby) Wilson of Sterling Kansas and her brother Phillip “Flip” Cosby and wife Cathy of Abilene, Kansas. Susan and Philip were also graduates of Arkansas City High School. Services were held in Abilene, KS.&nbsp; &nbsp;

James Joseph (Jimmy) Sester, 72, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan.

Jimmy was born on September 9, 1948, in Wamego, Kansas, the son of Sylvester and Mildred Immenschuh Sester. He attended local grade schools and graduated in 1967 from Wamego High School. Jimmy then enlisted in the United States Navy for four years, serving most of his time at sea.

He was united in marriage to Barbara LaVange Corn on April15, 1983,

Jimmy worked for Steel and Pipe Company in Manhattan for many years and then worked for Kansas State University in the facilities department before retiring. Jimmy also helped his parents work the family farm and enjoyed his time on the farm that he lovingly called “Green Acres”.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Jo Sester, his parents, and his brother, Larry Sester. He is survived by his wife, Barb Sester, Wamego, his son, Bob Smith (Tara), and sister Betty Tessendorf (Clifford), Belvue.

Emogene R. Russell, age 89 longtime resident of Council Grove, passed away June 26, 2021 at Morris County Hospital. She was born April 28, 1932 in Council Grove, the only child of Ben Russell and Hilda Ruth (Foresman). She was married to Donald Eugene Russell, Sr. for 47 years until his passing on July 23, 1996. Due to Donald’s occupation, they moved quite often, before moving back to Council Grove where they lived for over 40 years.

Emogene was a very active member of Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church, where she attended Bible Study and Women’s Circle.&nbsp; She also was active with Zurita, a health and wellness nutrition program, which allowed her socialization and attending conventions. Emogene and Shirley Blosser were in charge of the monthly birthday celebrations at Diversicare. She enjoyed going on gambling trips with Margaret Ratliff, as well as going to Las Vegas every Thanksgiving with her daughter Donna and her family.&nbsp; Emogene’s greatest joy was her family.&nbsp; She will be sadly missed by all.

Emogene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, son Richard and granddaughter Jessica.&nbsp; She is survived by her children: Donald Russell, Jr, of Council Grove, Linda Lane, of Council Grove and Donna Bates and husband Thomas, of Independence, MO; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and friends.

A Celebration of Emogene’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 3rd at Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church, with a private burial at Dunlap Cemetery at a later date.

Joan Westmorland Cloutier, 80, of Manhattan, KS passed away on June 21, 2021 at Meadowlark Hills. Joan was born on May 31, 1941 in Chicago, IL to Tony Westmorland and Etta Orr Westmorland. She left Chicago at an early age when she enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps. On January 6, 1971, Joan married Peter L. Cloutier and enjoyed supporting his 30 years of service in the U.S. Army. They lived in Ft. Riley, KS, Ft. Bliss, TX, Giebelstadt, Germany, and Ft. Hood, TX before retiring in Shawnee, KS, their home for 20 years. Joan is survived by her loving husband, Peter; three sons, Grant E. Collins of McLean, VA, Tony E. (Leah) Collins of Olathe, KS, Lamont G. (Shelly) Cloutier of Shawnee, KS; daughter, Tamara C. (James) Byland of Manhattan, KS; six grandchildren, Marcus A. Collins, Kreed A. Collins, Tonie M. Cloutier, Nevaeh R. Cloutier, James E. Byland, and Sarai J. Byland; brother Johnny Westmorland; and sister, Joyce Westmorland Jones. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Billie Jean Westmoreland. Joan earned degrees from Kansas State University and the University of Kansas leading her to a lifelong career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She retired from private practice in 2015. A woman of faith, Joan volunteered as Eucharistic minister, lector, director of religious education, and choir singer. Her hobbies included painting, writing poetry, reading, and traveling. She was well known for her love of holidays including her collections of Easter, Halloween, and Christmas villages. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Johnson Cremations, Funerals and Receptions in Junction City, KS. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan, KS. Heather Dawn Bloom, 51, of Mesa, Arizona passed away on June 23, 2021.

Heather was born on November 28, 1969 in Norton, Kansas, the daughter of Larry and Dana Bloom, previously of Clay Center, Kansas until they moved the family to Mesa, Arizona in 1977.

Heather had a degree in history and she loved to travel. She visited many countries to visit historical sites over the years. She settled in Portland, Oregon and was there for many years. While in Portland she owned and operated Plan B one of the most successful music venues in Portland. Bands from across the U.S. as well as other Countries would book to play at her venue. Heather also had a soft spot in her heart for helping other people. She worked for non-profits and volunteered her time in places such as Ronald McDonald house and the Child Crisis Center in Mesa, AZ. She loved her nieces, nephews and cousins as if they were her own children and always planned special themed birthday parties for them. Everyone was always amazed at the detail and special work she put into planning and making everything from scratch.

Heather loved a multitude of people and a multitude of people loved her.

She is preceded in death by her dad Larry Bloom and niece, Saige Bloom.

She is survived by her mom Dana Bloom, Mesa, AZ, brothers Gregory Bloom, Boonville, MO, Ryan Bloom, Mesa, AZ, sister Alisha Bloom of Milwaukee, OR, nieces Jamaica Bloom, Gilbert, AZ, Sicily Bloom, Mesa, AZ, Seven Bloom, Lockhart, TX and India Bloom, Baltimore, MD, Nephews Evan Bloom, Kaden Bloom and Nathan Bloom all of Mesa, AZ.&nbsp; She is also survived by aunts, uncles and many cousins throughout Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Florida and Arizona.
