James “Jim” Wendell Watson, 78, of Manhattan, KS, passed away on May 15, 2021. A memorial service will be held Saturday May 22nd, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2812 Marlatt Ave, Manhattan, KS, at 2 pm. There will also be a Celebration of Life Open House held at Three Rivers Engraving, 126 W Flint Hills Blvd, Junction City, KS, May 27th, 2021 from 1-5 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Watson Family Fund c/o Johnson Cremations, Funerals &amp; Receptions. Jim was born on November 19, 1942, in Manhattan, Kansas, to Wendell and Alice (Justice) Watson. He was the youngest of five children, and at a young age started working in the family moving and storage business, Watson Transfer and Storage. He attended Kansas State University and later attended the Brooks Institute of Photography in California. He met the love of his life, Elda Marie Wedel, in Wichita Kansas. While in Wichita, they married on March 21, 1969. In the early years of their marriage, they made their home in several different states; Kansas, Minnesota, California, and Iowa. Ultimately, they settled back in Manhattan. Jim loved to travel and found great enjoyment in working as a Sales Representative for different companies. This allowed him to travel all over the western United States. He finally realized his dream by starting and running his own business with his wife. Later adding to that dream by purchasing Three Rivers Engraving, which serves the Junction City, Fort Riley, Manhattan, and surrounding communities. Jim was always actively involved in his family’s interest regardless of the subject, from his wife to his children, and his grandchildren. He was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a member of the Manhattan 1st ward, however, he was also known to make an appearance at Manhattan 2nd ward from time to time. He served in many callings, his last being the Stake Property Facilitator for the Church. He showed his continuous support in his children’s and his grandchildren’s activities. He participated in 4-H, BSA and GSUSA when his children were young. He was always active where it mattered. He loved and supported his wife in her leadership positions for Girl Scouts. Jim was always his grandchildren’s number one Cheerleader. It should also be noted that he loved all his children and grandchildren unconditionally; and regardless of fatigue and pain he showed up to every performance, birthday, and miniscule occasion. He brought with him a smile that reached his eyes, humor that lit the room, and a love that stretched for miles. Jim was a talented photographer and took pictures of trains all over the country, and over the years several of his train photos were published. He was one of the founders of The Union Pacific Historical Society and was the first president as well. He was a great collector of everything railroad related. He also enjoyed collecting Legos, stamps, coins, and of course jokes. James is survived by his loving family: wife, Elda Marie Watson of Manhattan, KS; four children Elda Kristine (Jene) Salas of Fremont, CA, Aaron Wendell Watson of Manchester, NH, Melissa Ann (Sean) Turpin of Longview, WA, and Jared Michael (Amber) Watson of Manhattan, KS; twelve grandchildren, Samantha, Hannah, Gabriel, Emma "Connor", Leo, Lillyn, Aaron, Brayden, Katriese, Emi, Sebastian, and Aireanna; and a plethora of loving family and friends. Wanda Bea McRae age 85 of Junction City, KS was welcomed into Heaven with open arms by Jesus on May 19, 2021 after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at the Junction City Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Mark Hatcher officiating.&nbsp; A private family burial will take place at Highland Cemetery. Wanda was born to James and Vena Devin on Feb. 14, 1936 in Locust Grove, OK. The family moved to Junction City when Wanda was 4 in search of a better life due to the Great Depression. It was there that the Devin house was buzzing with activity as Wanda and her siblings used their imaginations playing many creative games. Wanda’s first job was with her best friend Earlene Edney Gfeller where they manned the switchboard at Fort Riley. In her teenage years the Devin clan hosted many friends for music and fun. One of those friends, Dick McRae, turned out to be the love of her life who she married on June 4, 1954. They journeyed together for 54 years making precious memories and two cherished daughters Linda and Kim. One of Wanda’s proudest achievements was earning her degree while being a stay-at-home mom which led to a 26-year teaching career with Geary County Schools. Most of her students would count Mrs. McRae as one of their favorite teachers as she used her creativity and wit to inspire them to succeed in the classroom and life. Wanda’s teaching did not cease with retirement as she dispensed her wisdom on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Being well versed in the Bible Wanda showed her faith by living the words that she read. She reveled in having play dates with the kids and hosting Sunday family dinners. Wanda also kept up with her many friends by scrap booking, writing family history, playing cards and having lunch dates. Wanda was preceded in Glory by her husband Richard, parents James and Vena Devin, brothers Jimmy Ray and Gary Devin, sister Sue Travis and In-Laws John and Lola McRae. Dr. Thomas Aquianis Swanke, 60, of Westmoreland Kansas died Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Wellsprings of Westmoreland, due to complications of dementia.&nbsp;

Thomas was born March 25, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois to Dr. John W. and Kathleen Swanke. He spent a portion of his childhood in Quebec, before settling in San Diego, California. Thomas stayed in San Diego through college, graduating from the University of San Diego with a bachelor's in Economics. While in San Diego, he met his future wife, Susan. They married on August 4, 1984.

Thomas furthered his education, gaining his master's and doctorate at the University of Colorado in Boulder. After completing his Ph.D in Economics, Thomas went on to teach for 19 years, first at West Virginia State University, then at Chadron State College, and finally at Morningside College. At each school, he founded a chapter of the International Honors Society for Economics, Omicron Delta Epsilon.

An avid learner, Thomas loved to travel the United States to visit national parks, museums, and other cultural landmarks. He was an active member of the Catholic Church, singing in the choir and playing instruments in every parish he attended. Thomas was a talkative, funny, kind-hearted man, who devoted his life to educating others. He believed that if talents weren't shared, they were wasted, and he made sure that he did not waste his. Even though he was taken too soon, Thomas will remain in our hearts as a devoted husband and father, who left the world better than he found it.&nbsp;

Dinah Mary Turnbull, 66, of Alma, Kansas, died Friday, May 14, 2021, at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. She was a life-long resident of the area.

Dinah was born on July 8, 1954, in Topeka, the daughter of Ronald and Ellen Maginley Turnbull. She attended local schools and Alma High School.

Dinah worked several years at the Big Lakes Developmental Center in Manhattan. Dinah loved to sing, play Bingo, and doing things for others. She was a true “people watcher” and loved animals. She also enjoyed watching WWE wrestling and listening to country music. Dinah had a kind and caring heart and spirit.

Dinah is survived by her nephew, Jeff Stuewe (Debbie) and his children, Justice and Kinsey Stuewe, and long-time friend Lyn Posey. She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother, Daniel Turnbull, her other siblings, Cynthia Stuewe and Michael Turnbull, and a nephew Michael Turnbull.

She was a nurse in Herington, Kansas, Irwin Army Community Hospital (IACH) in Fort Riley, Kansas, and many places all over the continental United States as well as overseas in Germany. As a young woman, she met a soldier by the name of Danuel "Dan" Smith. Dan and Robin fell in love. They married on November 15, 1996. Together, they ultimately settled their family in Ogden, KS. During her time as a military spouse, she was awarded The Order of St. Joan D'Arc Medallion from The Third Calvary Regiment for her volunteer work and was also a leader of the Family Readiness Group (FRG) for her husband’s unit. Robin loved to bake, travel, visit friends and family, and cross stitch. She was very busy in her professional life, but always made sure she had time for the things she loved. She was a member of University Christian Church of Manhattan, Kansas, where she and her family enjoyed going to worship service. Above all she was a loving wife; caring mother; beloved daughter, sister, and niece; and loyal friend. Leora’s life began on January 30, 1924 in Herington.&nbsp; She is the daughter of Charles William and Magdalena Marie Ernestine (Meyer) Albrecht.&nbsp; Leora is a 1942 graduate of Herington High School.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Wiston C. Leora passed away on Monday May 17, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. &nbsp;She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Wiston, son David Clore, son Wayne Blanton, granddaughter Patricia Smith and siblings Irma, Harvey, Ortie, Herbie, Dora Mae and Roy.&nbsp;

Clifton Boyd, 95 of Abilene passed away May 16, 2021 at Enterprise Estates Nursing Home in Enterprise. He was born November 13, 1925 in Jayess, Mississippi, the son of George and Rosa (Brister) Boyd. On November 12, 1949 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Tobias . She preceded him in death June 24, 2015. Clifton worked at C.E. Ersham in Enterprise for twenty plus years as a molder, and later went on driving trucks for various companies.

He is survived by his three daughters, Jan Bissel of Mount Airy, North Carolina; Roxian Jarboe of Kansas City, Kansas; Denise Boyd-Anderson of Junction City, Kansas. Two sons, Kenny Boyd of Enterprise; Reggie Boyd of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Bonnie, son Danny Boyd and two grandsons, Danny Mutchler and Scotty Anderson.

David A. Leach died May 16, 2021 in Abilene, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born April. 19, 1954, in Houston, the son of David Ivan Leach and Barbara J. (Cole) Leach. He grew up in Houston, Texas, later moving to Granger, Utah, where he graduated from Granger High School in 1972. Following high school, he joined the Army and retired from Fort Riley, Kansas after a twenty-two year career in 1994. He served in Desert Storm during 1991. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Management from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois. Following his military retirement, he was employed by Russell Stover Chocolates, Abilene, KS and Ellsworth Correctional Facility, Ellsworth, KS

Survivors include a daughter, Heather Nicole Ferrari (RJ), of Northglenn, CO, two granddaughters (Avalyn and Mackenzie) and a son, David P. Leach, of Manhattan, KS.

Nellie Jean Terry, age 80, died on May 16, 2021 at the Salina Regional Health Center on her 64th wedding anniversary. She was born September 6, 1940 in Crescent, Oklahoma to Clarence and Helen (Stewart) Dodd. She attended school in Oklahoma where she played basketball and softball and graduated from Paradise High School in Paradise, Kansas. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Nellie married Harold Terry on May 16, 1957 in Anadarko, OK. She worked in various restaurants and owned and operated Terry’s Sundries in Solomon, KS for 15 years. She loved entertaining family and friends and was known for her cooking.

Nellie was an avid card player and thoroughly enjoyed her card group in Solomon and her coffee club in Carter Lake, IA. Many hours were spent by her on bleachers watching children and grandchildren play various sporting activities. She was an OU Sooners fan and enjoyed watching the KC Royals and Oklahoma City Thunder games.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, 4 sisters, 4 brothers, a daughter-in-law, and a grandson.

Nellie is survived by her husband Harold Terry of Solomon; children – Alice of Salina; Harold Jr. (Lauri) of Salina; Bobby of Weatherford, TX; Donna Cargile (Toby) of Devine, TX; 1 brother Gary Wright of Sandy, OR and 1 sister Nancy DeGan of Clastskanie, OR. Clarence Marshall Garten, Jr. passed away May 17, 2021 at the age of 94. Clarence was born October 26, 1926 in Abilene, KS. to Clarence Marshall Garten, Sr. and Marie Esther Sprinkel Garten. He attended Sand Springs School and graduated from Abilene High School in 1944. Clarence was a 4-H member as a youth and as an adult was a leader and a 4-H Agent for Marion County. He was also a member of Rural Life. His occupation was a farmer/stockman. In 1957 he was Dickinson County Outstanding Farmer. He also took second place in Kansas Outstanding Farmer.

He was a member of the National Guard 1st Battalion, 137th Infantry Division and had an honorary discharge as a Corporal in 1952. Clarence married Eileen Londene on September 11, 1949 at the First Methodist Church in Abilene, KS, and raised 5 children together. This year would be their 72nd year together.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Church in Abilene. He met the Lord at a Lay Witness Mission at age 43 and then he and Eileen coordinated Lay Witness Missions for 28 years. They helped establish the Abilene Good News bookstore. He also was the chairman of Abilene Area Revivals for 5 years. He was a member of the Gideons, lay minister of the Lord’s Chapel in Talmage, leader of Bible studies for youth and adults and involved in Dickinson County Jail Ministry from the late 1970’s-2017. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, and children, Janette Fulton (Dennis) of Nampa, ID, Marsha Pavkov (Roger) of Salina, KS, Larry (Jean) of Olathe, KS, and Scott (Jamie) of Abilene, KS. He had 14 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.

Proceeding him in death were his parents Clarence and Marie, brother Frank and son Steven.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 pm. Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Emmanuel Church in Abilene, KS. There will be a cookie reception following the service for the family to visit with friends and family. There will be a visitation with the family on Thursday night May 20, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Abilene Senior Center, 100 Nelm, Abilene.

Clarence Marshall Garten, Jr. 

Lawrence "Larry" Jacob Gassmann was born on February 11, 1954, in Colby, 
Kansas, to Conrad and Magdalen (Weber) Gassmann. He passed away at the 
age of 67 on May 12, 2021, in Overland Park, Kansas. 
 Larry grew up on a farm one mile west of Dresden, Kansas and 
attended Leoville Grade School. From a small child on up, he was 
accustomed to hard work helping on the farm, milking cows, raising 
chickens, plowing fields, and assisting with the wheat harvest. As he 
reached his early teens, he always raised a prized garden. In May 1968,
 Larry graduated from Leoville Grade School and the following fall, 
began attending Leoville High School as a freshman. He loved playing 
sports, with basketball and softball being his favorite. Leoville High 
School was unified with Hoxie High School the following year. Larry 
attended Hoxie High the following three years and graduated as a senior 
on May 22, 1972. As a high school student, Larry was involved in 
numerous activities, including Future Farmers of America (FFA), 
shop/woodworking and attended football and basketball games. In August 
1972, he began attending Goodland Area Vocational Technical Trade 
School, with a two-year program in electricity and electronics. He 
supplemented his tuition by doing yardwork and landscaping for local 
residents, including the Catholic church. Larry had a chance to 
reconnect with Fr. Merlin Kieffer from Seven Dolars while he was in Via 
Cristi. Fr. Merlin was the priest in Goodland that Larry did the yard 
work for back in the early '70s, how ironic. In addition to that, he 
also worked nights as a stocker at Larry’s IGA and eventually moved into
 the produce department. Following graduation, Larry began working as a
 specialist at Ulysses Irrigation in Goodland and continued his 
part-time duties at Larry’s IGA. After 13 years, Ulysses Irrigation 
went out of business and Larry headed east to become a resident of 
Manhattan, Kansas in 1987. 
 That year, Larry was hired by Food-4-Less grocery store in Manhattan
 to work in the produce department, moving up later to become the 
store’s produce manager. He left Food-4-Less in 1993. He then went on to
 work as a contractor for Equinox International and Swepco Petroleum out
 of Fort Worth. In August of 1993 he was hired by the Riley County 
Public Works as an Operator 2. During his 28-year career with Riley 
County, he worked on the road and bridge repair crew, traffic control, 
snow removal and sign division. Larry was a loyal employee and highly 
devoted to Riley County during his tenure. He was set to retire on May 
31, 2021. 
 A strong work ethic was instilled in Larry that was evident his 
entire life, but he also enjoyed other activities besides work. He was 
meticulous and organized, an avid recycler and had an interest in the 
Oregon Trail. He also was a big fan of Kansas State football and the 
Dallas Cowboys. When he purchased his house in 2009, he took great pride
 in his yard. By using the knowledge, he gained from his work with Riley
 County, he constantly looked for ways to improve it each year. It was 
an annual challenge for Larry to find the best grass seed possible. The 
farm never left Larry, as he loved working outdoors. The love of his 
yard was evident in the beautiful lilacs and bushes that filled his 
yard. He was very innovative and always had creative ideas. He had 
started building a man cave/tornado shelter in his back yard that would 
attach to his house which he planned on finishing once he retired. Also,
 upon retirement he planned to build a nut and bolt sorter he had 
designed on paper and wanted to renew his woodworking skills by building
 picnic tables and Adirondack chairs to sell. Other retirement plans 
included more work on his yard, remodeling his home, traveling with his 
sisters to Europe and making many trips to Dallas to spend time with his
 nephew, Connor.
 He was a great asset to the KMKF radio station softball team in the 
late 80s and was instrumental in helping the team win the city 
championship in 1989. He had a great passion for classic cars and owned
 several of them, including two Chevy Monte Carlos. However, his prized
 possession was his 1972 green Ford Mustang Mach I. He also loved 
riding his Kawasaki motorcycle and often took rides around town. On 
weekend afternoons, it was not unusual to see Larry hand polishing his 
vehicles in his driveway. Even as a small child, Larry’s biggest love 
was for his kitties and he built a special burial place on the farm for 
all the farm cats. Later in life, Larry continued his love for animals

Monkees. His favorite song in his youth was "Little Arrows" by Leepy Lee.

Rosary will be said at 7:00 pm following the visitation at the funeral 
home.

 </figure>Lawrence "Larry" Jacob Gassmann was born on February 11, 1954, in Colby, 
Kansas, to Conrad and Magdalen (Weber) Gassmann. He passed away at the 
age of 67 on May 12, 2021, in Overland Park, Kansas. 
 Larry grew up on a farm one mile west of Dresden, Kansas and 
attended Leoville Grade School. From a small child on up, he was 
accustomed to hard work helping on the farm, milking cows, raising 
chickens, plowing fields, and assisting with the wheat harvest. As he 
reached his early teens, he always raised a prized garden. In May 1968,
 Larry graduated from Leoville Grade School and the following fall, 
began attending Leoville High School as a freshman. He loved playing 
sports, with basketball and softball being his favorite. Leoville High 
School was unified with Hoxie High School the following year. Larry 
attended Hoxie High the following three years and graduated as a senior 
on May 22, 1972. As a high school student, Larry was involved in 
numerous activities, including Future Farmers of America (FFA), 
shop/woodworking and attended football and basketball games. In August 
1972, he began attending Goodland Area Vocational Technical Trade 
School, with a two-year program in electricity and electronics. He 
supplemented his tuition by doing yardwork and landscaping for local 
residents, including the Catholic church. Larry had a chance to 
reconnect with Fr. Merlin Kieffer from Seven Dolars while he was in Via 
Cristi. Fr. Merlin was the priest in Goodland that Larry did the yard 
work for back in the early '70s, how ironic. In addition to that, he 
also worked nights as a stocker at Larry’s IGA and eventually moved into
 the produce department. Following graduation, Larry began working as a
 specialist at Ulysses Irrigation in Goodland and continued his 
part-time duties at Larry’s IGA. After 13 years, Ulysses Irrigation 
went out of business and Larry headed east to become a resident of 
Manhattan, Kansas in 1987. 
 That year, Larry was hired by Food-4-Less grocery store in Manhattan
 to work in the produce department, moving up later to become the 
store’s produce manager. He left Food-4-Less in 1993. He then went on to
 work as a contractor for Equinox International and Swepco Petroleum out
 of Fort Worth. In August of 1993 he was hired by the Riley County 
Public Works as an Operator 2. During his 28-year career with Riley 
County, he worked on the road and bridge repair crew, traffic control, 
snow removal and sign division. Larry was a loyal employee and highly 
devoted to Riley County during his tenure. He was set to retire on May 
31, 2021. 
 A strong work ethic was instilled in Larry that was evident his 
entire life, but he also enjoyed other activities besides work. He was 
meticulous and organized, an avid recycler and had an interest in the 
Oregon Trail. He also was a big fan of Kansas State football and the 
Dallas Cowboys. When he purchased his house in 2009, he took great pride
 in his yard. By using the knowledge, he gained from his work with Riley
 County, he constantly looked for ways to improve it each year. It was 
an annual challenge for Larry to find the best grass seed possible. The 
farm never left Larry, as he loved working outdoors. The love of his 
yard was evident in the beautiful lilacs and bushes that filled his 
yard. He was very innovative and always had creative ideas. He had 
started building a man cave/tornado shelter in his back yard that would 
attach to his house which he planned on finishing once he retired. Also,
 upon retirement he planned to build a nut and bolt sorter he had 
designed on paper and wanted to renew his woodworking skills by building
 picnic tables and Adirondack chairs to sell. Other retirement plans 
included more work on his yard, remodeling his home, traveling with his 
sisters to Europe and making many trips to Dallas to spend time with his
 nephew, Connor.
 He was a great asset to the KMKF radio station softball team in the 
late 80s and was instrumental in helping the team win the city 
championship in 1989. He had a great passion for classic cars and owned
 several of them, including two Chevy Monte Carlos. However, his prized
 possession was his 1972 green Ford Mustang Mach I. He also loved 
riding his Kawasaki motorcycle and often took rides around town. On 
weekend afternoons, it was not unusual to see Larry hand polishing his 
vehicles in his driveway. Even as a small child, Larry’s biggest love 
was for his kitties and he built a special burial place on the farm for 
all the farm cats. Later in life, Larry continued his love for animals 
and provided loving homes to numerous felines in Goodland as well as his

Donna Louise Bretz was born on December 28, 1927 in Emporia, Kansas and passed into eternity on May 15, 2021 at the Morris County Hospital in Council Grove, Kansas.

Donna was the daughter of Vernon and Ruth Berger Bretz of Council Grove.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her brother, Lt. Vernon Dean Bretz, and by her sister, Darlene Dixon Dean and nieces Janice and Deana Dixon.&nbsp;&nbsp;She is survived by her sister, Eunice Hunter, Council Grove, sister-in-law, Mary Lois Aldrich, Tina, Missouri and extended family members.&nbsp;

She was a 1945 graduate of Council Grove High School.&nbsp;&nbsp;She retired from the Rural Electric Cooperative Association after 25 years of service as a clerk.

Donna was united in marriage to Vernon James (Bus) Aldrich of Herington, Kansas on March 23, 1946, by Reverend John J. Clinton in the Methodist parsonage in Council Grove, in a double wedding ceremony with Mary Lois Carr and Douglas Aldrich.&nbsp;&nbsp;The couple made their home in Council Grove for the remainder of their lives.

Donna and Bus were long time members of the Council Grove Country Club and were avid golfers.&nbsp;&nbsp;One of Donna’s proudest moments in her golfing career was winning the 1970 Women’s Match Play Golf Championship at Council Grove Country Club on August 31, 1970.&nbsp;&nbsp;She had also achieved a hole in one.

Donna played bridge in several ladies bridge clubs. She and Bus also enjoyed playing in couple’s bridge clubs, played pitch and traveled several times to warmer climates for games of chance. Donna also knitted, in addition to crocheting sweaters and blanket keepsakes for family members.

Bus passed away on July 26, 2017.&nbsp;&nbsp;After his death, Donna moved from their home to the&nbsp;Assisted Living in Council Grove.

Donna and Bus were the parents of two sons, David, and his wife Melody, of Overland Park and Jim, and his wife Connie, of Council Grove.

Mrs. Aldrich is survived by four grandchildren, Arika, and her husband Devin Ledom, Ashley and her husband Scot Elston, all of Overland Park; Molly Aldrich of Council Grove and Aric Aldrich, and his fiancé, Michelle Havinga of Coralville, Iowa.

She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Ethan and Ella Elston and Landry and Lawson Ledom, of Overland Park.

Brenda was born September 10, 1950 in Thayer, Missouri to Glen and Neva (Miller) Fraley. Brenda retired from USD 475 after 25 years and was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church.

She married Don Manns May 18, 1988. She is survived by her husband, Don; father, Glen; and three children: Shannon Manns Erickson; Jennifer Dake (Dean) Rose; and Daniel Manns; her sister, Nancy Fraley (David) Branson; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Brenda was preceded in death by her mother Neva, and one grandson Tevin Anthony Geike.

A Christian Memorial Service will be held at the First Southern Baptist Church in Junction City, KS in July 2021 and will be announced at a future date.

Sandra Dee Worland, 61, of Junction City, KS, passed away on May 9, 2021. Johnson Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation arrangements. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at the Fort Riley Post Cemetery. Sandra was born on September 27, 1959, in Fort Benning, Georgia, to Tommy Oakes and Clovis (Conkle) Small. As a child of a military family, she lived in many duty stations and the family ultimately settled in Dwight, KS. She met a service member by the name of Joseph Worland and they later married. He later passed away in 2004. Sandra had a strong work ethic. She worked in the food service industry for many years in the Junction City area. On her time off, she enjoyed embroidering and bead work, watching Professional Wrestling on Mondays and Fridays, and she was an avid animal lover. Sandra is survived by her loving family: Long Time Partner, Thomas "TC" Collins of Junction City, KS; her parents Edward and Clovis Small of Dwight, KS; four siblings Lillie Rice, Willard Small, Charlie Small, and Matthew (Melinda) Small; many nieces and nephews; her friends from Crocker, MO; and a host of loving family and friends. She graduated from Augusta Kansas High, Class of 1989, received her associates degree from York College in York, Nebraska and attended classes at Oklahoma Christian. She married Charles “Chuck” Cantrell on March 17, 2016 in Winfield. She was a member of Winfield Church of Christ, loved her children, enjoyed reading, counted cross stitch, word games, movies on Lifetime and collecting pens, purses, and roosters.

Her loving family includes her husband, Chuck of the home, daughters, Teri and Lexi Lech and Abby Cantrell; sons, Eli and Lane Cantrell all of Winfield; parents, Bill and Dianne Buggeln of Augusta; brothers and their wives, Eric and Shannon Buggeln of Carthage, New York, Evan and Jaclyn Buggeln of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister and her husband, Michelle and Albert Bair of Pratt, Kansas; many nieces and nephews.

Cheri passed away peacefully into her Savior’s arms on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at the age of 50, after a courageous battle with Covid 19.

Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 18, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 19 at 10:30 a.m. both at Winfield Church of Christ, 1113 Country Club Road, Winfield. Following the funeral, she will be laid to rest in the Isabel Cemetery in Isabel, Kansas at 3:00 p.m.

Cheri Dawn (Buggeln) Cantrell - November 11, 1970-May 13, 2021 (age 50)

Norma Regina Lewis passed away on May 13, 2021, at Overland Park, KS, after a short illness at the age of 90. She was born at home in Dresden, KS, on August 17, 1930, the daughter of Francis and Florence (Crimmins) Diederich, and was the oldest of six children. Norma attended elementary school in Selden, KS, and completed eighth grade in Emmett, KS, where she was the only graduate in her class. Norma went on to graduate from Luckey High School in 1948. After high school, she attended Marymount College in Salina, KS. On June 4, 1955, Norma married Wayne Umscheid at Seven Dolors Catholic Church. In 1971 Norma married Ralph Lewis. They owned Lewis Construction for many years. Norma’s 60-year employment history included Kansas Farm Bureau, Kansas Power and Light, Green Construction, Area Agency on Aging, KSU Food Service, Landmark Bank, and Master Teacher. Norma was strong in her faith and helped start the Adoration Chapel at Seven Dolors, and remained active for over 23 years. Norma’s hobbies included painting, reading, crocheting, and gardening while visiting 12 international countries on various religious trips. Norma is survived by five children, Kathleen (John) Manning, Janice (Michael) Meloan, Sandra (David) Walterscheid, Wayne (Pam) Umscheid, and Barbara Umscheid; brothers, Doug and Dwight Diederich; twelve grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Marilyn Meinhardt, and two brothers, Dallas and Doyle Diederich. Public visitation will be held Sunday, May 16, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen funeral home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS, followed by a Parish Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 17, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church with Father Kerry Ninemire as celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunrise Cemetery. A luncheon will be offered at the Church after the burial. Memorials are suggested for the Manhattan Catholic Schools and can be made in the care of Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Michael Amidon, 78, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Geary Community Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2021, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with military honors. He was born on January 23, 1943, in Loughborough, England the son of Donald and Ivy (Moss) Amidon. Michael and his mother came to the United States on the War Bride Ship to join Donald in 1946. They resided in Denver, CO. They later moved to Westminster where he attended school. Michael joined the United States Army in 1960. He served in Korea and Okinawa. On December 7, 1963, he married Frances Meis at Westminster, CO. They traveled to various locations in Germany and the United States of America. In the twenty three years of serving, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired in 1985. She passed the State Boards for nursing in 1952 and began working as a registered nurse in the lab and surgery until 1953. Mary met Carl Albert Richard at a dance in 1952. They were engaged shortly after and married on May 28, 1953. He preceded her in death on January 8, 2015.&nbsp; Mary was heavily involved in 4-H during her childhood and during her own children’s childhood. She was a sewing leader for several years. Mary is a member of St. Anthony Church as well as the Alter Society. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joe and Francis Carroll and a sister, Dorothy Breiner

Long-time Manhattan, KS resident and business owner, Dr. Lynn S. Bates passed away at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan on Thursday, May 6, 2021. Lynn was born in Salem, Ohio to Harvey and Olive Bates (Stratton). He graduated from Heidelberg College in Ohio with a BS in Chemistry, and then, a master’s degree in Biochemistry from Purdue University. Lynn married his best friend, Gyll C. Floding in Salem, OH on August 21, 1966. Immediately after, they spent 2 years in Mexico City, as Lynn worked with the Rockefeller Foundation. When they returned to the USA, he completed his doctorate in Grain Science at Kansas State University. Dr. Bates was an associate professor for nine years at KSU before creating his own company, ALTECA, Ltd. Lynn loved the outdoors, traveling and music. He enjoyed canoe outings on local lakes, fishing, and watching the wildlife. He and his wife traveled abroad to many countries over the years, and even hosted an exchange student from Spain, Natalia Elies. He played the piano, guitar, mandolin, and banjo, and helped instill an appreciation of music in his children and grandchildren. Lynn is survived by his wife, Gyll (Floding); his brother, Duane Bates and wife Sandy and daughters. He is also survived by his daughters: Tammy (Johnson) and her husband, Chris and 3 children; Heidi (Hilton) and her husband, Damian and 2 children; Kerri (Galas) and her husband, Matt and 3 children; Mindy (Dryden) and her 2 children. Lynn and Gyll also opened their hearts and home to Sladana Hudson (Tepavcevic), and her brother Darko Tepavcevic who grew to be part of the family. A celebration of Dr. Lynn S. Cathern Lee (Thouvenelle) Trapp, 82, of Russell, Kansas, died on 
Friday, May 07, 2021, at her family’s home in the Flint Hills outside of
 Manhattan KS

Cathern was born on September 19, 1938, in Lucas, Kansas, the 
daughter of George Gerald (G.G) and Bertie Orene (Pitchford) 
Thouvenelle.&nbsp; As a young girl she grew up in Lucas but moved to Russell,
 Kansas, in 1954, and graduated from Russell High School in the class of
 1956.&nbsp; She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Herman R. 
Trapp on July 31, 1959, in Russell.&nbsp; From this union they were blessed 
with two sons Charley and Scott.&nbsp; Herman preceded her in death on 
February 13, 1997.&nbsp; She owned and operated Cathy’s Beauty Nook from 1965
 to&nbsp; 1994.&nbsp; After closing her beauty shop she went to work at the 
Russell County Landfill for many years until she retired.&nbsp; Cathern found
 love a second time and was a faithful companion to Don Kilian for many 
years before he passed away on May 21, 2020.&nbsp; She was a longtime member 
of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell.&nbsp; She was also a member of 
T.O.P.S., B.P.W. and the Shrine.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking,
 lawn work, watching Kansas State University sports and being a 
homemaker.&nbsp; Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, 
especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her sons Charley H. Trapp and wife Angela of
 Junction City, Kansas, and Scott A. Trapp and wife Cami Kesinger of 
Leavenworth, Kansas; sister Georgia Ann Thorson and husband Charlie of 
Surprise, Arizona; grandkids Morgan Trapp-Manhattan,&nbsp;KS, Lindy (Trapp) 
Swart-Westmoreland, Kansas, and Emma (Trapp) Leuthold-rural Manhattan,&nbsp; Kansas, Kynser Wahwahsuck-Lawrence, Kansas, and Kruz 
Wahwahsuck-Leavenworth, Kansas,&nbsp;and great grandkids Bryden Trapp, Kimber
 Swart, Casen Swart, and Madeline Leuthold.

She was preceded in death by her parents, as previously mentioned her
 husband Herman and brothers Jack, Norm and David Thouvenelle. A private
 celebration of Cathern’s life will be held at the Russell City Cemetery
 and cremation has been selected per Cathern’s wishes.&nbsp; Visitation will 
be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at the mortuary with 
family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Tuesday evening.&nbsp;

Cathern L. Trapp

Johnny A. Crawshaw, age 77 of Clay Center, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021 at his residence.

He was born March 5, 1944 at Neodesha, Kansas, the son of Arlo Lawrence &amp; Opal Vivian (Shue) Crawshaw.

Johnny graduated from Altoona Rural High School in 1962, Chanute Junior College in 1964 and Kansas State University in 1968.

On June 9, 1963, he married Jane Ann McMillen at Zion United Methodist Church near Chanute. She survives of the home.

He worked at Gilmore-Tatge Manufacturing in Clay Center as an engineer for 14 years. He then worked at Landoll Manufacturing in Marysville for two years and at Kansas State University in Ag Engineering Research for two years. He then became self-employed on his farm in Clay County, Kansas.  This is where he was most happy.

He enjoyed fishing and collected antique Oliver tractors. He attended the Clay Center United Methodist Church and had accepted Christ as his Savior. He was a member of Clay County and Washington County Farm Bureau, serving in several officer positions and served with the Clay County Volunteer Rural Fire Department for over 20 years.  He loved spending time with his children and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane and four children; daughter, Patti (Max) Stephans of Conway, MO; three sons, Joe (Karoline) Crawshaw of Tucson, AZ, Jeff (Colleen) Crawshaw of Culver and Justin (Ross) Crawshaw-Lopton of Salt Lake City, UT; three brothers, Claude Crawshaw of Channahon, IL, Vern Crawshaw of Altoona and Dale Crawshaw of Sabetha; one sister, Donna Crawshaw of Riley; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021 at the Clay Center United Methodist Church with Rev. Reuben Langat officiating.  The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Crawshaw, age 77 of Clay Center, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021 at his residence.He was born March 5, 1944 at Neodesha, Kansas, the son of Arlo Lawrence &amp; Opal Vivian (Shue) Crawshaw.Johnny graduated from Altoona Rural High School in 1962, Chanute Junior College in 1964 and Kansas State University in 1968.On June 9, 1963, he married Jane Ann McMillen at Zion United Methodist Church near Chanute. She survives of the home.He worked at Gilmore-Tatge Manufacturing in Clay Center as an engineer for 14 years. He then worked at Landoll Manufacturing in Marysville for two years and at Kansas State University in Ag Engineering Research for two years. He then became self-employed on his farm in Clay County, Kansas. This is where he was most happy.He enjoyed fishing and collected antique Oliver tractors. He attended the Clay Center United Methodist Church and had accepted Christ as his Savior. He was a member of Clay County and Washington County Farm Bureau, serving in several officer positions and served with the Clay County Volunteer Rural Fire Department for over 20 years. He loved spending time with his children and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.Johnny is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane and four children; daughter, Patti (Max) Stephans of Conway, MO; three sons, Joe (Karoline) Crawshaw of Tucson, AZ, Jeff (Colleen) Crawshaw of Culver and Justin (Ross) Crawshaw-Lopton of Salt Lake City, UT; three brothers, Claude Crawshaw of Channahon, IL, Vern Crawshaw of Altoona and Dale Crawshaw of Sabetha; one sister, Donna Crawshaw of Riley; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents.Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021 at the Clay Center United Methodist Church with Rev. Reuben Langat officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church.Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
