William "Bill" Sesler, 88, of Manhattan, KS passed away Friday, March 2, 2021 at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan.&nbsp;

Stanley Ray Gauntt, 71, of Junction City passed from this life on April 2, 2021 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, KS.

Stan was born on September 16, 1949 in Manhattan, KS to Herb and Esther (Lynn) Gauntt.  Stan was their firstborn named after famed St. Louis Cardinal Stan Musial.  He graduated high school at Junction City High School in 1967 and then attended Sterling College where he obtained a teaching degree.  In 1973 he taught 5th and 6th grade science at Lincoln School in Junction City.  Afterwards Stan ventured to southern California and spent the majority of his adult life there as an interior designer along with the occasional teaching assignment at UCLA and USC.

Stan returned to Junction City in 2009 and lived there until his passing.  Stan worked at Home Lumber &amp; Decor until 2018 and since worked delivering meals for the Geary County Senior Center.

Stan also served as a volunteer in many areas during his time in Junction City.  Those include serving as treasurer for the Junction City Arts Council, serving on the board for the Junction City Opera House, and on the elder board at First Presbyterian Church in Junction City. 

Stan was known by many for his pleasant disposition, his fondness for all types of fancy cars, his family, and most notably his black labrador Riley. He loved giving gifts, especially those of the white elephant variety.  He often took great pleasure in dressing up in unique ways for various holidays. He was very sensitive to anyone that may feel uncomfortable and went out of his way to make them feel at ease.

Stan was preceded in death by both of his parents Herb in 2003 and his mother Esther in 2017.  He is survived by his 3 brothers - John Gauntt of Topeka, Jeff Gauntt of Gardner, and Bryan Gauntt of Topeka along with his aunt Diana Gauntt of Atchison, plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service honoring Stan's life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 12 at First Presbyterian Church in Junction City with visitation of family one hour prior at 10:00 AM. Masks are required inside the building.  There will not be a graveside service.

Memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church and delivered there either in person or by mail.

Linda Ann Brun, age 80, of Manhattan, died March 27, 2021, at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Home in Wamego. She was born March 10, 1941, in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of John and Clara Marie (Leach) Eckenrode. Linda graduated from Inglewood High School in Inglewood, CA in 1959. She worked as an Administrative Assistant in federal, city and county government. Linda was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church and was active with the Adoration Chapel. She was also active with the Joy Group at University Christian Church, numerous Bible studies and the Women’s Ministry at Eastside Christian Church in California. Married to Donald Payn on April 3, 1964, Donald preceded Linda in death. On March 23, 1991, in Fullerton, CA, she was married to Richard Brun. Mr. Brun survives of Manhattan. Additional survivors include children: John Payn, Dawn Payn, Julie (Payn) Araujo, and, Rick Brun, Chris Brun, Tim Brun; one sister Norma Savany; nine grandchildren (Derek, Devon, Chanel, Jenna, Hillary, Donald, Brad, Chloe and Noah) and two great-grandchildren. Linda was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings: Roger Eckenrode and Carol Ortman. Lloyd's life began on August 31, 1936 in Newton. He was the son of Frederick T. and Bernice Kay (Abplanalp) Harvey.  He graduated from Potwin High School and served his country in the United States Army in the late 1950's.  Lloyd was a livestock farmer and rancher.  He raised pork for a while then moved into the cattle business.  Lloyd was united in marriage to the former Barbara Lee Hagen on November 16, 1958 at the Potwin Christian Church.  He was active in 4H as a youngster living on the farm.  Lloyd served on the Whitewater Watershed Board for many years, was a member of Farm Bureau and was a Remington High School booster.  He loved sports and mostly arguing about sports with others. 

 Lloyd's loving family includes his children Elizabeth (Randy) Smith of Arlington and Jeff (Alicia) Harvey of Owosso, OK; grandchildren Whitney, Brandon, Rilee, Chanze, Corey, Kendra, and Austin; great grandchildren Gauge, Adilyne, Melrose, Jamison, Adilyn and Huntleigh.  Lloyd passed away on April 3, 2021 at Newton Presbyterian Manor.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara, grandson Kyle Smith, and his sister Beverly Ann Chase.

  His family will gather with friends on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater where his funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 1 p.m.&nbsp; Lloyd will be laid to rest in Walnut Valley Memorial Park, El Dorado with military honors. James L. “Jim” Bettles was born May 7, 1942 near Delavan Kansas the son of Jessie and Marjorie (Platz) Bettles. He grew up in the Wilsey area and graduated from Wilsey High School. On April 5, 1970 he married Patricia Ann Harrison in Abilene. Jim and Patricia made their home in Enterprise where Jim worked for CE/ABB and worked as a part time policeman. Following the closing of CE/ABB, Jim became the Police Chief of Enterprise where he retired after receiving recognition for 25 years of dedicated service. He was very well respected and honored in his community. Jim was an ornery man who had no shortage of jokes, keys hanging from his belt loop, embellished fish stories and a smile for everyone he met. Jim was a longstanding member of The Shriners/Masons Society as well as the Lion’s Club. Jim loved fishing, hunting, camping, playing pool and watching sports. He is survived by his children Roger Brock of Herington, Debra (Ryan) Elder of Hope, Sheryl Ward of Abilene, and Michael (Penny) Bettles of Salina, sisters Juanita Roberts of Council Grove, Karen Redding of Waverly, 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Patricia in 2006 and his son Steven Bettles in 2009, and his parents Jessie and Marjorie Bettles. Funeral services for Jim will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with Pastor Stan Norman officiating. Carolyn Sue Hoke, age 80, a longtime area resident, died March 30, 2021, in Peoria, Arizona. She was born March 4, 1941, in Columbus, Georgia, the daughter of Peter and Helen (Hendricks) Brennan. Sue graduated from Msgr. Luckey High School. Sue was the owner/operator of the Rock House restaurant and bar in Ogden for many years, and she and Gail owned Wildcat Plumbing in Ogden. She moved to Sun City, Arizona 11 years ago. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church both in Ogden. On July 30, 1971, in Beatrice, Nebraska, she was married to Gail M. Hoke. Gail survives of the home. Additional survivors include three children: Paul Booth of Surprise, AZ, Cary Booth of Junction City, KS, and Kevin Booth of Surprise, AZ; three siblings: Mary Schiller of Massillon, OH, Berniece Cain of Lancaster, CA, and Dormie Kramer of Topeka, KS; and three grandchildren. Sue was preceded in death by one son David Jay Booth and two siblings: Shirley Neyer and William “Sonny” Brennan. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10th, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ogden, KS, with Father Kerry Ninemire as celebrant. Rhonda Joy 'Andersen' McCabe joined our Lord on March 30th, 2021 at Via Christi Hospital, after her battle with MG. She was born on December 11th, 1956 in Ellsworth, Kansas. The daughter of Clayton "Pete" Andersen and Joy Lockhart. She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1974. She worked at K-State Student Union Bookstore from 1982-1995, then transferred to the K-State I.D Center as the Asst. Manager. She then retired in 2019 after 36 years with KSU. Rhonda and Gary united in marriage on July 19th, 1995 here in Manhattan, KS. Rhonda loved to quilt! She was an active member of the Prairie Star Quilt Guild. She and Gary enjoyed their time Geocaching, which took them on many fun adventures. She also adored spending time with all her 6 grandkids, as much as she could. She is proceeded in death by her parents, her brother Mike, her daughter Robin, and her grand twins- Brexton &amp; Jordan. Survivors include her husband Gary McCabe Manhattan, KS; her son Mike (Marian) Burse of Houston, TX; daughter Tara (Nick) Marden of Manhattan, KS. Step son Ethan (Chelsea) McCabe; Blue Springs, MO. Ruth N. Barrera, 41, of Manhattan, passed away the afternoon of Monday, March 29th, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City. She worked as a PACT Social Worker with the VA Junction City CBOC. She was passionate about her work with Veterans. Prior to this, she worked with St Francis Foster care agency where she helped reintegrate families. Ruth was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on March 15, 1980, the daughter of Maria E. Batres. She was married on September 3, 2002, in Chicago City Hall to Ivan Barrera.&nbsp; They were married for 18 years. Ruth graduated from the Lane Tech High School in Chicago; She attended the Aurora University Nursing Program in Aurora, Illinois; She received a bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri; Master’s Degree in Social work from Washburn University in 2018 and served in the US Army. Ruth is survived by her husband, Ivan of 18 years; two sons Tomas and Eduardo, of Manhattan; two sisters, Ana E. (Guy) Onesti, of Naples, FL and Raquel E Miranda, of Chicago, IL. Ruth was also an organ donor and will live on in the many lives that she saved. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2021, at the Carlson's Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, 1317 W. Poyntz Ave in Manhattan. He was united in marriage to the former Marie Melson of April 4, 1948 in Burns.  Gene was in business with his father, and brother with he and his brother working together 29 years.  He later worked for the Burns Co-Op and Walton.  Gene attended the Burns Community Church (formerly the United Methodist Church), belonged to the American Legion and the 99 Division Association, and supported the POW/MIA organization.  He was also the long-time caretaker and record keeper of the Burns Cemetery and very involved in the Burns community.

  His greatest joy was his family which includes his children Donald (Cindy) Obee of Emporia, and Cheryl (Stanley) Smith of Emporia; grandchildren Chad (Danielle) Smith, Kristi Smith, Traci (Joe) Hekele, Erin (Henry) Volante, and Landon (Jenny) Obee; twelve grandchildren, "bonus" daughter Phoebe Janzen and several nieces and nephews.  Gene passed away on April 1, 2021 at NMC Health in Newton.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie, daughter in law Dayla, brothers Frederick and Hugh and sisters Dorothy Smith and Ruth Ott.

Russell Dale “Butch” Hodges, Sr., 77, of St. George, Kansas, died Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at the Via Christi Health Center in Manhattan. His hard-fought battle with multiple health issues in recent years is just one example of his strong-willed personality and his ability to live life at its fullest. He was a life-long resident of the community.

Butch was born on April 26, 1943, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Loran and Irene Ward Hodges. He attended local schools and graduated in 1961 from St. George High School.

Butch worked in construction and was a foreman for Konza Construction. He worked alongside his crew doing concrete work at Fort Riley, Junction City, Manhattan and the surrounding area.

Butch loved to work in his garden, cut wood and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed fishing and watching K-State Football. In his earlier years he farmed with his father.

Butch married Amy Sexton in Reno, Nevada, in 1984. She preceded him in death.

Butch is survived by his son, Keefe Hodges (Kelsie), St. George; his brothers, Dennis Hodges (Sherill), Gary “Doc” Hodges, and Edwin “Ed” Hodges (Cheri), all of St. George; his grandchildren, Tyler Hodges, Ashley Young, Parisa Hodges, Amani Hodges, Maya Hodges, Jaylee Hodges, Kenzleigh Mumpower; and his great-grandchildren, Mackinsey, Randy, Jackson, and Charlie Hodges, and Oren Young. Butch was also preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Russell “Miles” Hodges, Randy Hodges, Tommy Hodges and Robert Bruner; and his brother Willard Hodges.

Neil Vincent Melvin Anderson, age 87, died March 28, 2021, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan, KS. He was born April 14, 1933, in Monterey, MN, to Melvin S. and Laura Juliette (Johnson) Anderson. Neil graduated from St. James High School, Minnesota State-Mankato (B.S.) and the University of Minnesota (DVM and PhD). Neil married Betty Mattson in 1953, in Dawson, MN. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy, as Assistant Professor at Auburn University, and as Professor and Interim Dean at Kansas State University. During his long teaching career in the School of Veterinary Medicine at KSU Neil received many recognitions including: Distinguished Professor Emeriti, Kansas State University; College of Veterinary Medicine Distinguished Emeritus Faculty Fellow; Distinguished Practitioner and Member National Academy of Practice in Veterinary Medicine. Neil is survived by his beloved wife Betty of Manhattan; and their children: Jon K. and wife Debbie, Kristine Anderson Stevens and husband Ted, Nadine Anderson Horst and husband Larry, Vincent A. and wife Laura, Elizabeth Anderson Nelson and husband Kent, and Kurt E. and wife Kristen; seventeen grandchildren: Benaiah, Jacob and Leah Anderson, Sarah Ngoh and Lydia Mercer, Adam and Aaron Horst, Kaleigh Hubbard and Kevin and Kjersten Anderson, Leif, Knute, Haley and Lena Nelson, and Luke, Daniel and Julia Anderson; 12 great-grandchildren; four siblings: Corrienne, Russell, Clifford and Merle; and many nieces and nephews. Robert E. Learned Jr., age 96, of Manhattan, KS, died Sunday March 28, 2021 at his family home. Robert was born on December 13, 1924 in Lawrence, KS, the son of Robert E. Learned Sr. and Georgia Ann (Hanson) Learned. Bob grew up in Lawrence. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School, class of 1942. Bob started classes at University of Kansas and then was drafted into the Navy during WWII. After his service to our country, he re-enrolled to the University of Kansas earning two bachelor degrees, Arts &amp; Sciences, class of 1951 and Science in Pharmacy, class of 1954. Bob was always proud of his Lawrence roots, from being a KU grad, knowing Phog Allen, the history of KU and the city of Lawrence, Kansas. He was especially proud of Learned Engineering Hall named after his Uncle Stanley Learned. Bob was a licensed pharmacist for 61 years. He owned and operated Learned’s Prescription Shop in Manhattan on 4th Street for 25 years. After he closed his pharmacy, he was employed by Dillon’s and then later worked part time for Walmart. At the age of 90, he took his Pharmacy plaque down. He always said “I’d rather use my brain than my brawn”. On January 30, 1953 in Basehor, KS, he was united in marriage to Iona Drake, the love of his life. She survives at their home in Manhattan, KS. Bob and Iona, raised their 4 children in Manhattan. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His family always came first. His heart had no limits. He was a member of the Isis Shriners and a mason of the Lafayette Lodge #16 of Manhattan. Bob and Iona were faithful members of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Manhattan. He was a dedicated servant to the Lord. Bob was preceded in death by his siblings: Dr. George R. Learned, Albert S. Learned, John W. Learned, Martha A. Learned, and Edmund R. Learned. In addition to his wife Iona, he is also survived by his children: Rebecca A. Cowley, Melinda J. Milligan, Robert E. Learned III, and Joan E. Hoover; also, his nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, soon to be seven. E. Allen “Preacher” Course, Jr., born June 18, 1928 to Ellwood A. Course, Sr. and Jessie (Wormser) Course in Lincoln, KS, peacefully passed away in his sleep March 29, 2021 in Stockton, KS at the age of 92, having lived his life faithfully serving his God, his family, and his country. His reunion with his wife Frances must have been wonderful, but seeing his Savior (whom he loved so much) must have been best of all!

He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946. From 1948 to 1952 he served his country as a US Marine during the Korean War. Upon his return from Korea in 1951, he married his sweetheart Frances Jordan. In 1952, having been honorably discharged from the USMC, he attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC to prepare for the ministry. He graduated in 1959 with a BA in the School of Religion. He and Frances then moved their family back to Kansas, where he pastored Sun Valley Baptist Church in Vine Creek, KS from 1960-1962, Manchester Baptist Church in Manchester, KS from 1962-1975, and Grace Baptist Church in Chapman, KS from 1975-2008. He also worked for the SS Kresge/Kmart store in Salina from 1960-1990. He loved spreading the Gospel of Christ, spending time with his family and church, and writing poetry.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Frances. He is survived by his daughters, Laura Goodman (Roger) of New Bern, NC; Linda Moore (Mark) of Moore, OK; Lydia Weiss (Jerry) of Greer, SC; Lella Richards (Dale) of Escalante, UT; and Martha Fleck (Brad) of Stockton, KS; grandchildren Joshua A. (Emily), Jeremy, Matthew, Michael (Brittany), Nathan (Christina), Timothy, Sarah (Jon), Caleb (Carol), Joshua J.; great grandchildren Joel, Andrew, Benjamin, Stephen, Olivia, Charlotte, Emmalyn; and his brother Dave Course, as well as many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Services will be held at Abilene Bible Baptist Church, Abilene, KS on Monday, April 5, 2021 at 2:00pm with Pastor Carson Johnson officiating. Internment will follow at Keystone Cemetery, Manchester, KS. with military honors provided by the United States Marine Honor Guard.

Donna was a lifelong resident of Junction City. She worked at Cole's Department Store and held several clerical positions at Ft. Riley while Gene was overseas during WWII. Upon his return, she stayed at home to begin their family. She later went to work at Johnson Brothers Furniture Store and retired there with over thirty years of service. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Covenant in Junction City. Survivors include one son, Ron Yenser and his wife Peggy of Salina, KS; two daughters, Sharyn Strand and her husband Will of St. Cloud, MN and Karen Suggs of Jacksonville, FL; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene in 2001 and one sister Darlene Huddleston.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Gregory Kent Gude, age 66 of Olsburg, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family, sidekick Tilley, and his FFA quilt keeping him warm.

He was born on October 3, 1954 in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Jerry Leistad and Donna Lee (Rowley) Gude.  He graduated from Elk Horn-Kimballton High School where he served as the senior class president, student council president and lettered in four sports with special emphasis on wrestling and catching fast balls by semi professional baseball players. Greg also was the FFA president for two years and won leadership and public speaking awards, a skill he shined bright in his whole life.  During his college years at Northwest Missouri State University and Kansas State University, he received Bachelor Degrees in Chemistry, Biology, Agriculture Education and Animal Science.  Greg spoke many stories of his college friends and their many adventures including building the worlds largest weather vane.

On February 19, 1983 in Skidmore, Missouri, he married the love of his life, Annette Kay Miller.  She resides at their home of 35 years, the home they brought their two children in to and made a lifetime of memories.

Greg was a school teacher in Missouri at Tarkio High School and Craig High School.  He then taught at the Kaw Valley Schools of Rossville and St. Marys High Schools.  He authored four welding manuals that were published by the American Institute of Baking and Manhattan Area Technical College.  He also built custom furniture and cabinets.  After his family, his love was for music, car stereo installation and teaching.  He touched many lives and left a lasting legacy with his students, his 200+ other children.  Greg always joked that he worked harder after he retired.  A true procrastinator, he “finished” his 35 year house remodel and various projects around their small acreage.  He filled their home with laughter, love, beautiful custom wood work, and lasting memories.  His favorite place to be was in his shop where he created jigs and wood working projects.  Greg spent most of his time tearing apart his car and establishing a “professional stereo system”.

In addition to his wife, Annette Gude, he is survived by two daughters, Dana Gude and husband Jason Miles of Lawrence and Amber Speer and husband Michael of Clearwater; one brother, Glen Gude and wife Lori of Brighton, Colorado; four sisters, Gaye Mussallem and husband Tom of Littleton, Colorado, Glee Smith and husband Jim of North Platte, Nebraska, Lisa Parker and husband Roger of Arvada, Colorado and Lori Moldenhauer of Wilber, Nebraska; one granddaughter, Ellie Speer and his future grandson.  As well as 21 nieces and nephews who proudly called him “Unc”

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Greg left behind a grand sense of humor and many life lessons for all:

1) Always make sure your handshake is firm and with intention.

2) Don’t take life too seriously.  Laugh a lot and love even more.

3) Love everyone and support all as if they are your immediate family.

Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at a later date.

Arlan Dwight Trumpp, 86, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Community Memorial Hospital in Marysville. 

He was born on October 15, 1934 to George and Margaret (Nanninga) Trumpp at the family homestead in Bala, KS. At the age of eight, the family moved to farm right outside Leonardville, where he lived until just a few years ago. He graduated from the Leonardville Rural High School. 

On April 12, 1953, he married Opal Bohnenblust in Topeka, KS.  Arlan and Opal enjoyed 47 years together when Opal was taken from him in a senseless murder on December 15, 1999. His life changed drastically after that and he endured a great deal with the tragic loss of his wife and the ensuing murder investigation which lasted years.  They raised two daughters, Beth Arlene and Vonda Lee.  Music was a large part of Arlan and Opal’s life.  Arlan played the trumpet, loved listening to music, especially Herb Albert and Roger Miller.  Arlan and Opal loved to attend dances in the area.  In their empty nest years, they enjoyed their weekly shopping trip to Clay Center and spending time with their grandchildren.  

Arlan was a farmer and stockman all of his life. He was a skilled welder, and had a gift of being able to look at something, measure it out, and build it. He drove a bus for USD 378 and enjoyed his activity trips, especially if it allowed him to spend time with his grandkids at their events. He also enjoyed a well stocked hospitality room at some of these activities and would tell the family all about them in great detail when he got home. He was a charter member of the Leonardville Lions Club, a member of the Leonardville United Methodist Church, and a loyal coffee drinker at Lloyd’s shop, at the Corner Store, or in later years, at the Riley Presbyterian Men’s Coffee Club. His sense of humor was unfailing, and no one appreciated a good joke or prank more. His laugh was truly infectious. 

In retirement, Arlan reconnected with his love of motorcycles, and put many miles on in search of the perfect cup of coffee and some good conversation with strangers that soon became friends. 

As his memory faded, he went to live at The Lighthouse Memory Care Facility in Marysville, KS. There, he found a wonderful environment filled with love, laughter, and lots of animals. He was able to reconnect with his sense of humor and one-line zingers. He will always have the claim to fame of being their first resident, and was referred to as “Ambassador Trumpp” for his practice of visiting with everyone, again, strangers that soon became friends. Arlan had a great impact on all of the staff at The Lighthouse, especially the young people that worked there. One of them said it better than anyone: “They don’t make men like Arlan anymore. He was the total package: charm, good looks, loyal friend, a laugh to carry anyone through a bad day, and all the fart jokes one could handle.”

Arlan is survived by Beth Arlene Lankford, of Cypress, TX, and Vonda Lee (Jay) Copeland, of Riley, KS. Four grandchildren, Ashley Heaton, Cypress, TX, Andrew (Katie) Lankford, Cypress, TX, Betsy (Jory Harms) Copeland, Vallejo, CA, and Charlie Copeland, Manhattan; four great-grandchildren, Riley Lankford, Cypress, TX, Tripp Heaton, Cypress, TX, Opal Harms, Vallejo, CA, and two-week-old Alma Jean Harms, Vallejo, CA;  nieces, nephews, cousins, and his family at The Lighthouse.

Along with his wife, Opal, Arlan was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Dolan Rundquist, and his brothers-in-laws and their wives, Dale and Betty Bohnenblust, LeRoy and Claryce Bohnenblust, a niece, Lisa Peterson, and a nephew, Darin Rundquist. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.  Respect calls may be made from 9:00 a.m until 6:00 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2021 at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Leonardville United Methodist Cemetery, next to Opal, together again at last.

Memorials have been established for either the Opal J. Trumpp Music for Life Scholarship Fund, which funds a scholarship every year for a Riley County High School senior, or to The Lighthouse Memory Care Center in Marysville, where Arlan received the most love imaginable. William R. Flickinger, 82, died March 25, 2021 in Clay Center.&nbsp; He was born August 23, 1938, in Derry, Pennsylvania the son of Lawrence and Anna (Gombita) Flickinger.&nbsp; William grew up in Blairsville, PA and graduated from Bolivar High School in 1956.&nbsp; He farmed until joining the U.S. Army in 1958. .&nbsp; He married Brigitte Knoop on July 12, 1974.&nbsp; William served 2 tours in Vietnam and retired after 24 years of service to his country and the couple lived in Wakefield.&nbsp;&nbsp; He worked as a delivery driver for the Bargain Barn Furniture Store for 12 years and he worked at the Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina for 15 years.&nbsp; The couple moved back to Wakefield in 2018.&nbsp; William enjoyed playing football, basketball, softball and baseball with his children and loved watching them play high school sports.&nbsp; He also liked to watch NFL, NBA and MLB games and liked to go fishing.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisiters, Mennie, Nancy and Joan and 4 brothers, James, Jim, Fred and Jack.

William R. Flickinger, 82, died March 25, 2021 in Clay Center.&nbsp; He was born August 23, 1938, in Derry, Pennsylvania the son of Lawrence and Anna (Gombita) Flickinger.&nbsp; William grew up in Blairsville, PA and graduated from Bolivar High School in 1956.&nbsp; He farmed until joining the U.S. Army in 1958. .&nbsp; He married Brigitte Knoop on July 12, 1974.&nbsp; William served 2 tours in Vietnam and retired after 24 years of service to his country and the couple lived in Wakefield.&nbsp;&nbsp; He worked as a delivery driver for the Bargain Barn Furniture Store for 12 years and he worked at the Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina for 15 years.&nbsp; The couple moved back to Wakefield in 2018.&nbsp; William enjoyed playing football, basketball, softball and baseball with his children and loved watching them play high school sports.&nbsp; He also liked to watch NFL, NBA and MLB games and liked to go fishing.&nbsp;He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisiters, Mennie, Nancy and Joan and 4 brothers, James, Jim, Fred and Jack.Survivors:Wife: Brigitte Flickinger of Wakefield, KansasSon: William, II and wife, Patricia Flickinger of Wakefield, KansasSon: Kevin and wife Darla Knepper Flickinger of Manhattan, KansasSon: Steven and wife, Toka Flickinger of Auburn, KansasDaughter: Helen and Husband, Keith Padgett of Sheridan, Arkansas12 Grandchildren: Samantha, Kelly, Erin, Joshua, Virginia, Korbyn, Lacey, Lauren, Eli, Gavin, Stephanie and WilliamSister: Susan Lentz of Blairsville, PennsylvaniaMemorial Services: Will be held at 10:30 a.m.&nbsp; Friday, April 9, 2021 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Fort Riley in Manhattan, Kansas.There will be no visitation.Memorials:&nbsp;&nbsp;Kansas Outdoor Mentor Program c/o funeral home.
