Julia Herman, 63 of Abilene passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Wakefield Care &amp; Rehab. She was born June 22, 1957 in Kankakee, Illinois, the daughter of Merritt and Grace (Massey) Kinsman. On December 24, 2014 she was united in marriage to Mark Herman in Abilene. Most of her life Julia worked as a certified nurse’s aide.

 She is survived by her loving husband Mark of the home; Son, Nick Worthen (Hannah). Daughters, Amanda Haug (Kevin); Kristie Stover; One brother, David Kinsman (Linda); and a sister, Linda Kinsman. Julia also has 4 grandsons (Kaleb, Noa, Hunter, and Owen) and one granddaughter (Piper). She was preceded in death by her parents, son, David Worthen, brother, Randy Kinsman and a sister, Donna Raymond. 

The family has chosen cremation. A private graveside service will be held at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Solomon for family and friends. The family would like to extend appreciation to the staff of Wakefield Care and Rehabilitation in Wakefield Kansas for the care given to Julia over the last 3 years and as her dementia progressed. Muriel A. Wyman, 95 of Abilene passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. She was born in Sutphen, Kansas January 4, 1926, the daughter of Marvin and Alice (Picking) Gfeller. In 1942 Muriel was united in marriage to Arthur Eye. They later divorced. He preceded her in death in 1979. She was later united in marriage to Kenneth Wyman in 1962. He preceded her in death in February of 2015. Muriel was a housewife. She was a lifelong member of the VFW, an avid doll collector and enjoyed playing bingo.

 Muriel is survived by her son Daniel Eye and wife Dana of Abilene: Daughter, Cheryl Tyler and husband Martin of Abilene. Four grandchildren: Michael Fuller, Missy Blacketer, Marcy Reiff and Matthew Tyler. Seven great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and one sister, Mary Widler. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Arthur and Kenneth, one sister, Lt. Colonel Helen Gfeller, a brother, Platoon Sgt. John Gfeller and daughter-in-law, Sheryl Eye.

Donna Lee Diskau, age 90 of Riley, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

She was born on April 15, 1931 on a farm in Northern Riley County, the daughter of Paul and Myrtle (Simnitt) Specht.

On May 19, 1949, she married Dean L. Diskau in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  He preceded her in death April 27, 2002.  Donna and Dean were best friends and partners.  They enjoyed their yearly trips to Arizona during the winter months and bringing home some of the treasures found on their outings.

Donna was a homemaker and took care of the books for her husband’s construction company.  She was a board member for the Manhattan Public Library and enjoyed playing bridge and golf with “the girls” on a weekly basis.  Donna was active in the Riley PTA while her daughter was in grade school and was instrumental in starting the book rental program.  She loved to knit and was a very accomplished seamstress.



She is survived by her daughter, Constance (Connie) Diskau of Riley; two grandsons, Jarrod Wege Sr. and wife Jennifer of Manhattan and Robert A. Wege and wife Heather of Newton; four great grandchildren, Jarrod Wege Jr., Jenna Wege and James Wege of Manhattan and Lakin Wege of Newton; one sister, Beverly Sundgren and husband Eldon of Leonardville; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Specht of Topeka and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Leland Specht; three sisters, Ila Simons, Kaye Blodgett and Shirley Higgins and three brothers-in-law, Walter Simon, Duane Higgins and Warren Blodgett.


Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the Riley Cemetery.

Donna Lee Diskau

Bruce Edward Marshall, 82, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2021, surrounded by his wife and three children.

Bruce was born on June 19, 1938, to Orris and Dorothy Marshall in Clay Center, Kansas. He grew up on a farm just outside the city in a house built by his great-grandfather. His only sibling, Keith, had been stillborn, so Bruce was raised as an only child but maintained close relationships with many cousins throughout his life. He enjoyed playing the baritone with a small orchestral group in his high school and graduated near the top of his class.

His family was devout and attended church any time the doors were open, and as Bruce grew older, he took a leadership role in the Conference Methodist Youth Fellowship. His grandmother Tippin had a particularly strong influence on his faith and had long desired for Bruce to become a minister, but Bruce himself didn’t feel the call to ministry until his freshman year of college. After receiving an English degree with a minor in religion and philosophy from Kansas Wesleyan College, Bruce went on to attend seminary at Drew Theological School in New Jersey where he received his Master of Divinity.

Bruce had grown up attending the same small church in Clay Center with his future wife Janice, but they didn’t begin dating until college. Once they were together, however, it didn’t take them long to know they wanted to get married. Bruce sold his baritone to buy Janice a diamond ring, and they became engaged on February 13, 1959. They married later that year on August 30. Together, they had three children, David, Stephen, and Becky, and formed a strong ministry team as they served in the United Methodist Church for 39 years. In total, Bruce pastored at ten churches, primarily in his home state of Kansas.

After being diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease, Bruce retired in 1998, and he and Janice moved to Olathe, Kansas and lived near their daughter Becky and her family. They enjoyed several trips together, including a trip to New England to see the fall foliage, one to California for the Rose Bowl, and one to Arizona to meet their great-granddaughter, Audrey.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Orris and Dorothy Marshall, and brother, Keith Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Janice Marshall; his children, David (Brenda) Marshall, Stephen (DeAnna) Marshall, and Becky (Jon) Burrell; his grandchildren Chris (Ginger) Marshall, Ruthie Burrell, Jamie (Matt) Meier, Joel Burrell, Josh (Haley) Marshall, Nathan (Heather) Marshall, Isaac Burrell, and Lydia Burrell; and his great-granddaughter Audrey Marshall; as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Helen Eileen Clark, 101, of Manhattan, Kansas, went to her heavenly home Thursday, June 3, 2021. Helen was born October 3, 1919, in Lovington, Illinois to the late Agnes Lela (Gharst) and Albert Brown. She graduated from Hammond High School and later attended business college in Decatur, Illinois. She married Jewell Aden Washburn on August 17, 1943, in Vancouver, Washington. After Jewell passed away in April 1973, Helen wedded Floyd Hinton Clark on July 19, 1975. Helen served as executive secretary to the president of Manhattan Federal Savings and Loan Company for 18 years. She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church, Man-Kan Campers, The Order of the Eastern Star, and the D.A.V. Auxillary. Helen was a faithful churchgoer, taught Sunday School, Bible classes, and served in many church activities. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, making photo albums, traveling the country RV camping, playing dominoes, croquet, and cards. Helen is survived by her daughter Judy Breymeyer of Edmond, Oklahoma, and son, Roger (Sue) Washburn of Centennial, Colorado; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by the Clark sons; Clinton (Renee) Clark of Chapman, Kansas, Russell (Jackie) Clark of Eldorado, Kansas, and daughters Gloria (Allen) Quinlan of Olathe, Kansas, and Deana (Dale) Foster of Manhattan, Kansas; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Charles Brown and Jack Morris, and her daughter Sally Jane Smith-Cottrell. Rosie Clarice Barnes

Roger Glenn Boelling completed his earthly journey on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Herington Municipal Hospital. He had suffered from several illnesses since January 2021 and was finally overwhelmed by a month-long bout of aggressive cancer. He joins a heavenly band of KU fan family members who have gone before.

Roger was born in Abilene, Kansas but lived in Herington almost his entire life except for moves to Prairie Village, KS and Cedar Rapids, IA to follow his dad’s railroad career before returning to finish High School in Herington. He worked for a short time in Hutchinson after college, fortunately that was just long enough to meet his future wife. They met at a singles dance and, as Roger said: “I think she knew I was the one and she convinced me!” He married Helene Missildine July 20, 1968 in Hutchinson before moving back to Herington. They were married for 50 years until her death on September 8, 2018.

Flowers, music, reading, and walking were some of Roger’s hobbies.&nbsp; His interest in music was first demonstrated at just six years old when the Feb 27, 1948 Council Grove Republican reported that the annual 4-H achievement banquet show “was stolen by tiny tap-dancing Barbara Granzow and Roger Boelling, who appeared in colorful costumes” before the 300 in attendance.&nbsp; He regretted quitting his piano lessons after 5th grade, but music continued to be important in his life.&nbsp; Roger served for four-years as drum major of the University of Kansas Marching Band under Band Director Russell Wiley from 1962 to 1965. &nbsp;Therein began his lifelong support of University of Kansas athletics.&nbsp; He was an avid reader his entire life and participated for many years with the Herington Book Club.

Life was relaxed while he was growing up with lots of time for playing and learning.&nbsp; Holidays were important as were birthdays. He played with the neighborhood kids, rode bikes, played with his pets, and even made a scooter out of an orange crate and roller skate wheels. In High School, he tried to do well in the classroom, be involved in school activities and clubs. He served on Student Council, high school productions and was a basketball starter in High School.&nbsp;

While in high school, he worked as a soda-jerk in Gaylord “Red” Edwards’ Rexall pharmacy. There he became interested in pharmacy as a career. Fortunate for us, he graduated with a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Kansas in 1966. He first worked as a Pharmacist at Coberly Drug in Hutchinson Kansas. He moved back to Herington in 1968, this time as a pharmacist for “Red”.&nbsp; In July 1970, he purchased the pharmacy and continued to operate Boelling Pharmacy at 7 North Broadway until April 1981 when he moved and expanded it into the former Duckwall’s store at the corner of Main and Broadway. In 2014 he sold the Pharmacy. He retired in 2019 after a 53-year career as a pharmacist.

During his years as a pharmacy owner, he returned Edwards’s favor by providing many, many Herington students their first job as a soda-jerk at one of the few remaining soda fountains in Kansas.&nbsp; Many other area folks can attest to his kindness and personal attention when he would make after-hours trips to the store to fill/deliver prescriptions to those in need.&nbsp; He also had a “flexible” extended payment plan when prescription costs sometimes exceeded folks’ budgets. He was a compassionate, behind-the-scenes helper who did many things in the background to help Herington area residents. &nbsp;

Throughout his life he continued his love of sports by watching and sometimes coaching local sports. Many hours were spent in the pharmacy listening to games on the radio. His KU affiliation brought him great joy as a hard-core Kansas Jayhawk fan, Crimson and Blue through and through. Although he was known on occasion to reluctantly root for the team from Manhattan. In fact, after losing a game wager, he reportedly drove around Herington with a large purple sign in the back of his truck. Over his career, he endured several other purple events, but they were all to show his sport and willingness to poke fun at himself. Besides enjoying professional and college sports, when he could get away from the pharmacy, he supported and attended many local games to watch family and friends compete. &nbsp;He so loved watching his children and grandchildren perform in sports or music that he seldom missed an event and was known to drive four hours one way just so he could watch in person. &nbsp;

Roger was a lifetime Herington advocate.&nbsp; He always supported ALL of Herington. Over his years he served (often several times) on the Herington Hospital Board, Tri-County Chamber of Commerce, Herington Lions Club, Herington Library Board, Herington Recreation Commission and several Herington United Methodist Church boards and committees. He actively participated in the planning committee for the successful 1987 Herington Centennial. Roger served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He entered service in Fort Polk, LA on June 25, 1966. He was discharged as a Captain in Hutchinson, KS on June 24, 1972, after six years of reserve service as a pharmacist. He received a sharpshooter medal.

There was another side of Roger. Besides all the public and community support he gave, he gave more to his faith and family. &nbsp;Faith, Family, and Fun were Roger’s priorities in life. &nbsp;&nbsp;His five most memorable moments of his life were 1) His infant baptism, 2) his confirmation, 3) graduating college, 4) adopting their two daughters and 5) having grandchildren.&nbsp; His proudest accomplishment was helping raise two daughters and having the opportunity to be a loving grandparent. His message to his remaining family is “I have loved being a spouse, a dad and a grandparent. Enjoy as many of these moments as you can. They go by way too fast. I am thankful for the life I have had as I look around and see so many others with many more problems than I have experienced. I am so thankful for our adoption of two beautiful and talented daughters.”&nbsp;

Roger attended St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Herington. He previously was a long-time member of the Herington United Methodist Church until it closed and also attended the First Christian Church in Herington.

Roger strove to be a good example for others to follow, a person who tried to find the good in everyone and as someone who loved music. His goal at work was to be fair with people. His favorite part of his career was working with and talking with people and his customers. Throughout his life he did so much for so many in the Herington area. His friendship, compassion, love, and humor will be missed by all who knew him.&nbsp;

A public remembrance gathering will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. with a celebration of life service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at the Herington Community Building, Herington KS. The family asks that you wear casual collegiate attire, preferably colored Crimson and Blue. A private inurnment will be held later.

Roger Glenn Boelling completed his earthly journey on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Herington Municipal Hospital. He had suffered from several illnesses since January 2021 and was finally overwhelmed by a month-long bout of aggressive cancer. He joins a heavenly band of KU fan family members who have gone before.Roger was born in Abilene, Kansas but lived in Herington almost his entire life except for moves to Prairie Village, KS and Cedar Rapids, IA to follow his dad’s railroad career before returning to finish High School in Herington. He worked for a short time in Hutchinson after college, fortunately that was just long enough to meet his future wife. They met at a singles dance and, as Roger said: “I think she knew I was the one and she convinced me!” He married Helene Missildine July 20, 1968 in Hutchinson before moving back to Herington. They were married for 50 years until her death on September 8, 2018.Flowers, music, reading, and walking were some of Roger’s hobbies.&nbsp; His interest in music was first demonstrated at just six years old when the Feb 27, 1948 Council Grove Republican reported that the annual 4-H achievement banquet show “was stolen by tiny tap-dancing Barbara Granzow and Roger Boelling, who appeared in colorful costumes” before the 300 in attendance.&nbsp; He regretted quitting his piano lessons after 5th grade, but music continued to be important in his life.&nbsp; Roger served for four-years as drum major of the University of Kansas Marching Band under Band Director Russell Wiley from 1962 to 1965. &nbsp;Therein began his lifelong support of University of Kansas athletics.&nbsp; He was an avid reader his entire life and participated for many years with the Herington Book Club.Life was relaxed while he was growing up with lots of time for playing and learning.&nbsp; Holidays were important as were birthdays. He played with the neighborhood kids, rode bikes, played with his pets, and even made a scooter out of an orange crate and roller skate wheels. In High School, he tried to do well in the classroom, be involved in school activities and clubs. He served on Student Council, high school productions and was a basketball starter in High School.&nbsp;While in high school, he worked as a soda-jerk in Gaylord “Red” Edwards’ Rexall pharmacy. There he became interested in pharmacy as a career. Fortunate for us, he graduated with a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Kansas in 1966. He first worked as a Pharmacist at Coberly Drug in Hutchinson Kansas. He moved back to Herington in 1968, this time as a pharmacist for “Red”.&nbsp; In July 1970, he purchased the pharmacy and continued to operate Boelling Pharmacy at 7 North Broadway until April 1981 when he moved and expanded it into the former Duckwall’s store at the corner of Main and Broadway. In 2014 he sold the Pharmacy. He retired in 2019 after a 53-year career as a pharmacist.During his years as a pharmacy owner, he returned Edwards’s favor by providing many, many Herington students their first job as a soda-jerk at one of the few remaining soda fountains in Kansas.&nbsp; Many other area folks can attest to his kindness and personal attention when he would make after-hours trips to the store to fill/deliver prescriptions to those in need.&nbsp; He also had a “flexible” extended payment plan when prescription costs sometimes exceeded folks’ budgets. He was a compassionate, behind-the-scenes helper who did many things in the background to help Herington area residents. &nbsp;Throughout his life he continued his love of sports by watching and sometimes coaching local sports. Many hours were spent in the pharmacy listening to games on the radio. His KU affiliation brought him great joy as a hard-core Kansas Jayhawk fan, Crimson and Blue through and through. Although he was known on occasion to reluctantly root for the team from Manhattan. In fact, after losing a game wager, he reportedly drove around Herington with a large purple sign in the back of his truck. Over his career, he endured several other purple events, but they were all to show his sport and willingness to poke fun at himself. Besides enjoying professional and college sports, when he could get away from the pharmacy, he supported and attended many local games to watch family and friends compete. &nbsp;He so loved watching his children and grandchildren perform in sports or music that he seldom missed an event and was known to drive four hours one way just so he could watch in person. &nbsp;Roger was a lifetime Herington advocate.&nbsp; He always supported ALL of Herington. Over his years he served (often several times) on the Herington Hospital Board, Tri-County Chamber of Commerce, Herington Lions Club, Herington Library Board, Herington Recreation Commission and several Herington United Methodist Church boards and committees. He actively participated in the planning committee for the successful 1987 Herington Centennial. Roger Glenn Boelling - February 27, 1942-June 5, 2021 (age 79)

William’s life began on February 12, 1963 in Miami, Florida. He was the loving son of Enrique Antonio and Alida (Garcia) Cardonnè. William was a 1981 graduate of Bell High School in Bell, California. He also attended the El Camino Community College in Bell, California.&nbsp;

William was united in marriage to Roxana Patricia Nolasco on August 12, 1994 in Hawthorne, California. To this union were three children, Vanessa, Nathan, and Jared.

William served as a pastor at El Camino Church in McPherson, Kansas until he had a debilitating stroke in 2019. William enjoyed serving the Lord on mission trips, working with children and youth, served as an interpreter for the Rice County Court system and Rice County School District. &nbsp;William loved playing tennis, playing the congo drums and any percussion instruments, and had an extensive baseball card collection which was featured in Los Angeles. He also enjoyed his family, traveling, cooking, and his KU memorabilia.

His loving family includes his wife, Roxana of the home; three children, Vanessa Pimblott (Jonny) of St. Louis, Missouri, Nathan Cardonnè (Roxanne) of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Jared Cardonnè (Esmee) of St. Louis; a brother, Enrique Cardonnè (Esther) of Cudahay, California; 5 grandchildren, Josue, Judah, Jesse, Yasiel, Lena; 2 nephews, Richard and Andy and 1 niece, Ileene. &nbsp;

William was preceded in death by his parents. William passed away at the Salem Nursing Home in Hillsboro on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at the age of 58 years old. His family will gather with friends on Tuesday, June 8 from 6-8 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home. His memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jaquelin "Jackie" Bautista, 32, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at her home in Junction City, KS. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Faith Tabernacle Church. Reverend Nathan Dudley will officiate. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. The burial will follow the funeral service at Highland Cemetery. Jacquelin was born February 8, 1989 in Orange City, CA the daughter of Jorge and Angela Maria (Ocampo) Bautista. On January 5, 2021, Jackie moved to Junction City, KS to live with her brother Anthony Medina and her sister-in-law Rebecca. At the time, she had been diagnosed with stage four cancer. Her intention with moving to Junction City to be near family was to get her life in order. She was preparing for her transition from earth to heaven. At that time, she started attending Faith Tabernacle Church and she obeyed the Acts 2:38 message where she was baptized in JESUS name and she received the gift of the HOLY GHOST with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance. Jackie enjoyed traveling. She traveled forty seven states driving her own vehicle. Her last job was driving a school bus in Kansas City, MO. She made a lot of friends and acquaintances as she traveled the country. She enjoyed driving so much, she became an over the road truck driver and operated her own business. She loved every moment of being self-employed. To visit all fifty states was on her bucket list of things to do. Jackie really liked children. Her like for children was the key decision to become a school bus driver. Jackie really liked the ocean and spending time near water. Her goal was to live on the ocean and work near the ocean. She could spend hours visiting amusement parks riding all the rides. It was not uncommon for her to get in her car and take a spontaneous drive to California for a long weekend to visit friends and family. Summer Arionne Bennett, 42, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, KS. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place 2 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at New Church of the Living God with Pastor James E. Johnson officiating. Summer was born January 10, 1979, in Frankfurt, Germany the daughter of Essie Fort, JR. and LaVerne Gerlinde Grant. Summer lived and attended schools in Germany and Colorado, prior to calling Junction City home. She graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1997 where was a member of the Army JROTC program. She graduated from Kansas State University in 2005 with a degree in social work. She worked for Computing and Telecommunications Services and the Veterinarians Hospital, before moving on to become the social services administrator at New Directions. She then later went to work as a case worker for Irwin Army Community Hospital with the Warrior Transition Battalion. She was a member of the Mu Eta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and also attended New Church of the Living God. She was united in marriage to Chad Bennett on July 3, 2000 at the Fellowship Temple in Manhattan, KS. Summer Arionne Bennett, 42, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, KS. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place 2 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at New Church of the Living God with Pastor James E. Johnson officiating. Summer was born January 10, 1979, in Frankfurt, Germany the daughter of Essie Fort, JR. and LaVerne Gerlinde Grant. Summer lived and attended schools in Germany and Colorado, prior to calling Junction City home. She graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1997 where was a member of the Army JROTC program. She graduated from Kansas State University in 2005 with a degree in social work. She worked for Computing and Telecommunications Services and the Veterinarians Hospital, before moving on to become the social services administrator at New Directions. She then later went to work as a case worker for Irwin Army Community Hospital with the Warrior Transition Battalion. She was a member of the Mu Eta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and also attended New Church of the Living God. She was united in marriage to Chad Bennett on July 3, 2000 at the Fellowship Temple in Manhattan, KS. On July 4, 1985 she was united in marriage to Ronald Nelms in Long Beach, California. As a military spouse she traveled the world and country living in many places before residing in Abilene where she worked at Ft. Riley as an administrative assistant at the Army Community Center.

Roger Hein, 77 of Enterprise passed away June 1, 2021. He was born January 25, 1944 in Pierre, South Dakota, the son of Francis and Eileen (Timmons) Hein. He grew up in the Pierre area and graduated from Pierre High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1971. On December 22, 1979 he was united in marriage to Dixie Galentine in Abilene. Roger worked for a hide company.

He is survived by his loving wife Dixie of the home. One son, Leon Hein; daughter, Nyla Brevig; step-son, James Galentine; Two brothers, Donnie (Petra) Hein; Mike (Dustine) Hein; Four sisters: JoAn (Gene) Trenary; Judy (Ronnie) Brown; Carla (George) Stanley; Connie (Rob) Karsmizik. Loun M. Crawford, 90, died April 13.&nbsp; He was born on April 12, 1930 in Clay Center, the son of George and Lottie Mae (Bergman) Crawford. Loun married Mary Adina Johnson on July 4, 1958, she preceded him in death on October 26, 2009. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was in Korea for one year and four months.&nbsp; In September of 1962, Loun received the Craftsmanship Award from the American Institute of Architects for his work on the "Choir Boy" doors at the First Congregational Church in Manhattan and those doors are still there today.&nbsp; He worked for Erickson Building and Supply for 28 years and he owned and operated Crawford Cabinet Shop from 1974 until his retirement in 2008.&nbsp; Loun was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW, where he was past commander, American Legion and BPOE, all of Clay Center. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lelia Eye and Lois Lee; brothers, Leonard, Lawrence, Lowman, Lyman, Leeland and Lowell Crawford.

Lola was born to Lowell and Anna (Moe) Bright, on August 8, 1932 in Trego, Wisconsin. She married Merle Wilcoxson on July 15, 1954 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple had three children. Lola was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She loved gardening, attending sporting events to cheer on her grandchildren (and adopted grandchildren), Southern Gospel Music, cheering for the Chiefs, Royals and Jayhawk Basketball, and rocking the babies in the church nursery. She was affectionately known by all as “Grandma Lola” and lovingly doted on her family and friends. Lola was preceded in death by her husband, parents, twin sister Lois Taylor, siblings Lowell Bright, John Bright, Iora Davis, Carol Houston, Margaret Calkins, and Ardean Schellschmidt and Rossi Alderson. She was born at the family home in St. George, Kansas to Grace and Royal Berg on January 16, 1928. Garnett was a farm wife and was active in the Zeandale Community. After raising 8 children, she operated the “Yesterday’s Treasures’ Antique shop in Zeandale for about 10 years. She enjoyed antiques, farming, gardening and her family. She lived in Wamego the last 30 years, keeping her own home until age 90. Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters: Margaret (Frank) Piper and Dorothy (Don) Holladay; a brother: Ken (Norma) Berg and her youngest son: Kent Worrel. She was previously married to Tom Worrel. She is survived by 4 sons and 3 daughters. Sons: Craig (Alma) Worrel, Kevin (Cindy) Worrel, Kendall Worrel and Pat (Kristi) Worrel; daughters: Diane (Larry) Hoobler, Sheri (Stan) Beikmann and Cindy (Larry) Wahl. At the end of her life, she had been blessed with 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Manuel A. Silveira, age 70, a longtime Santa Maria, CA, resident died May 28, 2021, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. He was born December 24, 1950, in Fail, Azores, the son of Manuel and Maria (Machado) Silveira. He moved to Santa Maria, CA, when he was 18 and then to Manhattan KS, in October 2020. Manuel was a heavy equipment supervisor for Teixeira Farms for 30 years, retiring in 2016. He then worked for his cousin with Boa Vista Farms for three years. Manuel was a sports fan and enjoyed football, baseball, basketball and soccer. He was a huge 49’s and Dodger’s fan and also LA Lakers fan. He enjoyed fishing, camping, BBQing and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and 4-H activities. On August 27, 1997, in Santa Maria, CA, he was married to Dema Angeline “Pennie” Young. She survives of Manhattan. Additional survivors include his four children: Mike Silveira and his wife Amy, Michelle Silveira and Cristina Silveira all of Santa Maria, CA, and Aaron Silveira (Trina) of Manhattan; his sister Connie Carter of Santa Maria; seven grandchildren: Matthew, Tyler, Andrew, Cameron, Lily, Joseph and Remy; and one great grandson Jackson. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Montgomery Williamson on May 6, 2021. Monty died comfortably at home with family by his side. He was born July 27, 1940, in Topeka, Kansas, to John Heron and Mary Margaret (White) Williamson. The family moved to Manhattan in 1951. Monty graduated from Manhattan High School with the Class of 1958. He enrolled in Kansas State University in Electrical Engineering. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Karen J. Oldham. They were married on August 4, 1962. Karen and Monty settled in Manhattan in 1966. In fact, they still own the house on Dartmouth where they raised three boys Bret, Dean and Darin. Many football and baseball games were coached and attended by Monty and Karen both. They enjoyed square dancing, boating, and Monty was an avid bowler. The Chiefs, and of course all things K-State were a staple in their home. Monty and Karen loved tailgating before the football games, and they travelled to most KSU bowl games. After retirement, Karen and Monty enjoyed traveling the country and spending time with their grandchildren. Monty and Karen were loved by many, and lots of the boys’ friends called the house their second home. Monty is survived by his sister Diana (Williamson) Brueckner and her husband Paul of Omaha, Nebraska. Monty is also survived by his three sons and their families: Bret/Jan Williamson Manhattan, KS), Sean (Manhattan) and Darin/Katie (Carlsbad, CA). They also have five wonderful grandchildren: Lee and Emma (Manhattan), as well as Skylar, Bryce and Jade (Carlsbad). He was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife Karen. Eldon Gene Sylvester passed away unexpectedly, the evening&nbsp; of May 28th, 2021, at the age of 59. He was born in Riley county Kansas on February 2nd, 1962 to Elgene and Nola Sylvester. At a young age, Eldon’s family moved to Wamego, Kansas where he farmed alongside his father. He attended school in Wamego, graduating from high school in 1980. During his high school years, he was very active in FFA, where he developed his passion for mechanics and restoration. He implemented these skills working alongside his father on the farm and ranch. Eldon attended college at Kansas State University, where he began dating&nbsp; Julie who he later married on March 24, 1990.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

In his free time, Eldon could be found helping others, working on various projects, and supporting his family in 4H and FFA. He grew to be a Jack of all trades, and wore many hats. He enjoyed working on his trucks, motorcycles, and farm equipment, and was an all around handy- man. Eldon took pride in being the caretaker of livestock, prioritizing them over himself. He loved and cared for all creatures, great and small. Although he may have been soft spoken, those who knew Eldon would describe him as humble and caring. He was always there to offer advice or lend a helping hand when needed; however, he would never hesitate to ask for help or seek knowledge from someone else when needed .&nbsp; Eldon centered his life around his family; he loved them and always put them first. He was also very selfless, and would always stop what he was doing to help others at the cost of staying up late to finish his own tasks.&nbsp;

He was a very avid supporter of all the activities that Julie, Joelle, Ethan, and Jordan were involved in. &nbsp; Eldon encouraged them to achieve their goals by being their number one fan. &nbsp; His kids were his proudest accomplishments, as a result he was often found behind the camera, documenting their endeavors and making long-lasting memories with them.

Eldon was preceded in death by his father, Elgene Sylvester, and mother, Nola Sylvester. He is survived by his wife Julie, his children Joelle, Ethan, and Jordan; brothers, Noel (Barb) and Allen (Debbie) ; sisters, Norene (Tim) Klein and Roxie Rush ; parents in-law Jim &amp;amp; Sharen Tessendorf, and sister’s in-law Jenifer Anderson &amp;amp; Debbie Keighley and 10 nieces &amp;amp; nephews along with other extended family.

His other interests include listening to classical music and reading about traveling. He loved to learn about the many different places and cultures of the world. Valoaga was born June 22, 1953, in Atu'u American Samoa the son of Valoaga and Fa'atele (Maiava) Moliga. Valoaga retired from the United States Army in 1994. After his retirement, he went to work for Junction City Wire Harness. Later, he joined Tyson Food Company. He joined their fishing boat in Alaska where he fished for three years. After working a year on the fishing boat, he came home to Junction City and became a Civil Servant working for the Commissary and Irwin Army Community Hospital. He retired from Irwin Army Hospital in 2006. He married Fuata'i Uga'itafa January 8, 1979 in Tacoma, WA. Grace (Greep) Ayre, 100 of Abilene, was born December 13, 1920, the daughter of Fred David and Jennie Grace (McCune) Greep at Longford, Kansas and departed this life May 31, 2021. She attended Walker Grade School and the Longford Rural High School and taught one year at the Bouldin School in Clay County, later she worked at the Duckwall Store, First Western Bank and the Farmers National Banks, now-UMB of Abilene. She retired in 1985.

On February 28th, 1940 she was united in marriage to Wayne R. Ayre at Longford, Kansas. Most of her married life was spent in Abilene, Kansas. She was a long time member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church of Abilene, formerly called the Evangelical Church. She loved working in her church. She enjoyed visiting friends at rest homes, reading, walking and growing roses, also doing volunteer work at her church, the Good News Book Store and the Abilene visitor’s information center. She was also a member of Church Women United of Abilene.

She is survived by her daughter, Deon (Mike) Parsons of Abilene and son, Duane (Linda) Ayre of Wichita, Kansas. Eleven grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Wayne. Also preceding her in death was her daughter, Janet Yingling, her parents,Three brothers, Myron (Jack) Greep, Kenneth Greep and Fred (Fritz) Greep and one sister, Hazel Coup.

Funeral Services for Grace will 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2021 at the Emmanuel Church of Abilene with Pastor Gordon McClure officiating. Burial will follow at Keystone Cemetery near Manchester. Family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 a.m., until service time at the church.
