Marcelene Adile Cessna, age 89 of Englewood, Florida, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2021 at her residence.

She was born on June 17, 1931 in Leonardville, the daughter of Carl and Edna (Springer) Nilson.

On August 4, 1951 at the Walsburg Lutheran Church, she was married to Delmar B. Cessna.  He preceded her in death on March 18, 2018

Marcelene was a housewife who loved taking care and raising her sons.  She was also a member of the Alliance of Transylvanian Saxons.

She is survived by two sons, Donald Cessna of Englewood, Florida and Scott Cessna of Venice, Florida and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Aylene Fowler.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the Walsburg Cemetery.  The Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

A memorial has been established for Walsburg Lutheran Church and may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Linda Lee Hicks, age 63 of Manhattan, passed away Friday, June 11, 2021 at Via Christi Village.

She was born on August 20, 1957 in Okinawa, Japan to Robert “Bob” and Berniece (Short) Bentley.  She grew up in a military family living in several places before coming to Leonardville where she graduated from Riley County High School in 1975.  She attended Cloud Community College in Concordia where she met and married Gary Hicks of Ellsworth in 1978.  She worked at the Manhattan Mercury for several years before retiring.   

Linda enjoyed reading, playing bingo, and visiting with family and friends.  Linda was a huge Harry Potter fan.  She loved country music and was a fan of George Strait.  She also supported first responders and the military.  She would often pay for a soldier or police officers meal if they came into a restaurant she was eating in.  She got to meet her great granddaughter Adeline before she passed on a surprise visit from Indiana.  She never met a stranger and would talk to anyone.  She was a kind soul and would make you smile on your worst day.

Linda is survived by her daughter Jessica Hicks-Parvin, her son-in-law Josh Parvin of Indiana, her sister Brenda Henderson, brother-in-law Armour Henderson of Missouri, her grandchildren Alana &amp; Dylan Butler, Daniel Parvin and Brandy Enyeart, and Ethan Parvin.  She also had a great granddaughter Adeline Butler of Indiana, nieces and nephews Emily and Mike Huffman of Leonardville, AJ and Tabitha Henderson of Clay Center, and Daisy Henderson of Missouri.  She also leaves behind 12 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Bentley.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Wiens officiating.  Burial will follow in the Walsburg Cemetery.

Clarence Guldner, Jr. passed away June 11, 2021, at the age of 83.&nbsp; He was born July 12, 1937, in Lyons, Kansas to Clarence Demerle Sr. and Edith (Neander) Guldner.&nbsp; His early years were spent farming with his dad.&nbsp; After graduating from Kansas State University he worked for 38 years for the State of Kansas as an Investigator/Entomologist. traveling.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating. After arthritis took his ability to participate in these outdoor activities he enjoyed traveling to varies parts of the country.

He married Barbara (Parks) Guldner on January 14, 1961, and she survives at the home. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carol Shepherd. Other survivors are his daughter Deborah (Guldner) Harrison of Albuquerque, NM, son, Don Guldner of Abilene, KS, grandchildren, Kristen Scott, Kyle Harrison, Kalyssa Engles, Amberlee Gleason, Chelsi Allison and Andrea Ochoa and 8 great grandchildren.

Clarence was a former member of the Clay Center Eagles Lodge and a long time member of the Clay Center Elks Lodge where he served in numerous positions on both the state and local level. Clarence joined the Elks while living in Lawrence, Kansas before moving to Clay Center, KS in 1972.

Dr. Clifton Edward “Cliff” Meloan, age 89, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Thursday, June 10, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. He was born on August 4, 1931, in the family home in Bettendorf, Iowa, the son of Barton Jeans and Erma Evelyn (Mohr) Meloan. Dr. Meloan was raised in Burlington, Iowa where he attended school, spending his third and fourth grades in a one room country school. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1949. Planning on a military career he went through ROTC training and was stationed at Ft. Riley and later Ft. Carson as a First Lieutenant. In 1953, he received a B.S. degree in chemical technology from Iowa State University and Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Purdue University in 1959. Dr. Meloan came to Kansas State University in 1959, where he became a professor of analytical chemistry. In addition to his career at Kansas State he was a Science Advisor for the Food and Drug Administration for 28 years and a consultant for several industries. His areas of research included extraction mechanisms, criminalistics, insect detection in chemicals, and making undergraduate chemistry laboratories real world. Dr. Meloan earned an international reputation for his wide-ranging research and scholarship and has long been recognized for his dedication to teaching. Since joining the KSU chemistry department, where he was affectionately called “Doc” by his students, he had directed the research of 50 Ph.D. and 26 M.S. students. He was the sole author of nine books and co-author of twenty-five books. In 1970, he was selected as a Distinguished Research and Teaching Professor, sponsored by the Standard Oil Company, and was twice selected as Outstanding Educator in America. He also received the Food and Drug Administration’s Commissioners Special Citation. Dr. Meloan was honored in 1995 as being selected as Kansas State University’s first University Teaching Scholar. His selection was based on his efforts in pioneering new and creative approaches to undergraduate instruction. He retired from Kansas State in 1996. On September 1, 1957, in Burlington, Iowa, he was united in marriage to the former Marilyn Ann Berges. She preceded him in death on December 21, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents, infant twin granddaughters and by his brother-in-law: Arden Messer. Dr. Meloan was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as an usher for many years. In his younger years while at Kansas State he taught Judo as a brown belt instructor. He later received his pilot’s license and was a member of the KSU Flying Club. An avid genealogist he researched and recorded both the Meloan and Berges family lineage. He also loved history, especially military history, and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a member of the Stagg Hill Golf Club for many years where he not only enjoyed playing golf but for nearly 40 years (especially in the courses lean early years and following the 1993 flood) volunteered countless hours in cleaning and clearing the course which included planting and maintaining numerous flower beds. Throughout his lifetime he was an avid blood donor and was honored by the American Red Cross in 2016 for having donated over 19 gallons of blood, he was one pint short of 20 gallons. Following his retirement, he volunteered as a tax preparer at the Riley County Seniors’ Service Center. Dr. Meloan and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States, including Hawaii, and had traveled throughout Europe. In 1992, he was honored to accompany his longtime friend and world renown glass blower Mitsugi Ohno to Japan to present a blown glass replica of the Himeji Castle to Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michito. This work of art now resides at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. He is survived by two sons: Michael Barton Meloan (Janice) of Lenexa, KS, Douglas Paul Meloan (Elaine) of Manhattan, KS, and a daughter: Victoria Ann Cromer (Gary, Jr.) of Olathe, KS. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Mindy Batenhorst, Jonathan Meloan (Stephanie), Julie Meloan (Maggie Wagner), Dane Meloan (Ashtin), William Cromer, Rebecca Cromer; and five great grandchildren: Avery Meloan, Brody and Carly Batenhorst and Hayden and Jack Meloan. Sammy R. Campbell, age 85, of Manhattan, died June 10, 2021, at Wellsprings of Westmoreland. He was born June 7, 1936, in Keats, Kansas, the son of Samuel and Margaret (Conwell) Campbell. Sammy graduated from Olsburg High School in 1954. Mr. Campbell served in the United States Navy from October 1954 to October 1958 as an EN2. He then served for four years in the Navy Reserves. Sammy worked for Brewer’s Motor’s as a mechanic and then at Kansas State University before working at Fort Riley Federal Civil Service as the Boiler Plant Operator at the hospital. He was a member of the Yard Art Classic Car Club, Tuttle Creek Trap Park, American Post # 17 in Manhattan and the Wagon Wheel Whirlers Square Dance Club. He also enjoyed camping, trap shooting, hunting, and loved to tinker in his garage. On July 22, 1956, in Westmoreland, he was married to Donna L. Simon. Mrs. Campbell survives of the home. Additional survivors include their daughter Reneé Adolph and her husband Alan of Manhattan; two grandchildren: Dillon Adolph and Bailey Mixon and her husband Martin; and one great-granddaughter Ainsley Kate Mixon. Jerry Dishman Sr, 80, Manhattan Kansas, passed away peacefully at home June 10, 2021.

He was born May 16th, 1941, to Calvin and Ruth (Harrison) Dishman in Stockdale, Kansas and went to school in the Manhattan area. Jerry joined the Army in November 1959 where he served with the 4th Armored Division until being honorably discharged November 19, 1964. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era. Jerry married Belva June Hurst of Carthage, Missouri and remained married to the love of his life until Belva passed away in 2018. Jerry began his work for the City of Manhattan as a teenager working as a summer seasonal worker in 1956. Following his service in the Army, he returned to Manhattan and in 1968 was the Cemetery Foreman for 1 year and then began as a Maintenance Worker until 1974. At that time, he became the Cemetery Sexton and was a Parks Supervisor until 1981 when he was the Zoo Curator for the Sunset Zoo. He was then the Park Resources Superintendent for a year until being promoted to Park Superintendent where he remained for the next 20 years. During that time, he received numerous recognitions for his many contributions to the Manhattan community until his retirement in 2002. One of his proudest accomplishments was the development of Frank Anneberg Park, a sprawling park &amp; sports complex featuring over 100 acres of lighted sports fields, trails, and picnic areas. In 2006, after 35 years of dedicated service to the Manhattan community, the park’s stocked lake, that provides area youth with fishing opportunity, was officially named Jerry Dishman Lake. In his spare time, you could find Jerry fishing, hunting all kinds of animals or making hand-made knives from deer antlers. He also enjoyed playing bingo. He was quick with a smile, a handshake, and a story, some reliving his many pranks he shared with friends. Jerry leaves behind his daughter Jackie Santo (Russell Santo), his son Jerry Dishman Jr (Robin Dishman) and daughter Kim Dishman (Damon Hopkins) along with 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters MarJo Schober, Mary James and brother Calvin Dishman. The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday June 15, 2021 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. Jerry Dishman Sr, 80, Manhattan Kansas, passed away peacefully at home June 10, 2021. Jerry married Belva June Hurst of Carthage, Missouri and remained married to the love of his life until Belva passed away in 2018. Jerry began his work for the City of Manhattan as a teenager working as a summer seasonal worker in 1956. Following his service in the Army, he returned to Manhattan and in 1968 was the Cemetery Foreman for 1 year and then began as a Maintenance Worker until 1974. At that time, he became the Cemetery Sexton and was a Parks Supervisor until 1981 when he was the Zoo Curator for the Sunset Zoo. He was then the Park Resources Superintendent for a year until being promoted to Park Superintendent where he remained for the next 20 years. During that time, he received numerous recognitions for his many contributions to the Manhattan community until his retirement in 2002. One of his proudest accomplishments was the development of Frank Anneberg Park, a sprawling park &amp; sports complex featuring over 100 acres of lighted sports fields, trails, and picnic areas. In 2006, after 35 years of dedicated service to the Manhattan community, the park’s stocked lake, that provides area youth with fishing opportunity, was officially named Jerry Dishman Lake. In his spare time, you could find Jerry fishing, hunting all kinds of animals or making hand-made knives from deer antlers. He also enjoyed playing bingo. He was quick with a smile, a handshake, and a story, some reliving his many pranks he shared with friends. Jerry leaves behind his daughter Jackie Santo (Russell Santo), his son Jerry Dishman Jr (Robin Dishman) and daughter Kim Dishman (Damon Hopkins) along with 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters MarJo Schober, Mary James and brother Calvin Dishman. The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday June 15, 2021 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday June 16, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz in Manhattan, with Rev. Ben Duerfeldt officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road in Manhattan. He was a member of the Junction City Nazarene Church.&nbsp; Delbert worked for Home Depot as well as being a real estate developer and a master electrician. Delbert is survived by his loving wife Janet R. Wilks of the home; his son, Anthony L. (Beth) Wilks, of Kansas City, MO; his daughter, Michelle L. Donald Lee Spradling, 88, of Wamego, Kansas, formerly of Topeka, died Thursday, June 3, 2021, at the Home of the Flint Hills.

Don was born on October 2, 1932, in Arkansas City, Kansas, the son of Dale and Evelyn Spradling. He graduated from High School and then entered service in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, Don earned a degree in Geological Sciences from the University of Wyoming.

Don worked for over thirty years as a cost estimator for Shake Electric in Topeka. He retired in 1987. He was an active member of the Lions Club and volunteered his time collecting glasses and transporting for the Eye Bank. He also was involved in a program tutoring young children in reading. Don was very generous and was known for his willingness to help others. He loved to do woodworking and built furniture, decorative boxes, bowls and other wood projects, all of which he gave to family members and friends. Don enjoyed driving and traveled to various parks and sights across the country and was a Boy Scout Leader while his sons were in the program. Don was very patriotic and loved his country. He also felt strongly that he and Esther’s primary responsibly was to raise their children in a way that they would know the Word of God. His favorite quotes for his children were; “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” and “Remember when you point your finger at someone, there's 3 fingers pointing back at you.”

Don married Esther L. Wonderly on June 22, 1953, in Casper, Wyoming. Their honeymoon was an all-night drive from Casper to Oklahoma so Don could reach his military assignment in time. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2021.

Don is survived by his children; Ronald E. Spradling (Cathy), Pine City, Minnesota, Jeffrey “JD” Spradling, Ottawa, and Lora Herman (Terry), Wamego; his grandchildren, Breeonna Wade (Frank), Paola, Brandii Spradling, Olathe, Jennifer Boatwright (JD), Alma, Ben Woodley, Denver; his great-grandchildren, Finley, Preston, Jasmine, Marek, and Austin; his step-grandchildren, Bobby Harris, Houston, Texas, Ashley Herman, Kansas City, Kendal Gerkovich (Nick), and Kiel Herman (Amy), both of Kansas City; and his step-great-grandchildren, Lacey, Allysa, Layton, Lucy, and Bella. Rosario married Stephen Sanders in 2006 in Seoul, South Korea. They were happily married for 14 years. Rosario was active in the local community and centered her life on the care of all those who she was around. She had an infectious smile and loving personality that always made everything better. She enjoyed reading, Karaoke, watching movies and spending time with her family. Rosario is survived by her spouse Stephen of Portland, Oregon; her son Xedric Campos of Junction City, Kansas; her son Xenoz Angelo Campo of Manilla, Philippines; her son Xenos Francis Sanders and daughter Xantara Sanders both who currently reside at her Caution-home. He was cared for by his cousin Eva Smith Grentz and survived by two children Rusty Buford of Texas and Christi Garcia of California.

Virginia L. Adam, daughter of Robert and Margaret (Cunningham) Shirack, was born September 4th, 1932. She passed away June 7, 2021 at the age of 88.

She attended Ash Grove and Garfield grade schools in the country south of Abilene. She graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1950. On November 11, 1950 she married Joseph (Joe) Adam of Chapman and they spent all of their married life in Chapman. Virginia worked for many years a bookkeeper for several different firms and finally working for the US Postal system in Chapman for many years before retiring in 1997.

Virginia was active in many organizations. She was the first woman elected to the City Council and served two terms. She was a life time member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary and the Chapman Valley Manor. She served on Chapman Valley Manor Board, the Butterfield Housing Board, CAPS elected officer, Chapman Library Board and the Lutheran Church Council. She has served many years on the Indian Hill Cemetery Board.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994, her parents, and two sisters, Maxine Tinkler of Assaria, KS and Nordene Lorson of Murray, KY. She is survived by her son, David (Pam) Adam of Abilene, her daughter Diane Thomas of Chapman, one grandson, Tanner Thomas of Chapman, two step-granddaughters Alana Preston, Abilene and Lindsey Blixt of Chapman, several step great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday, June 11th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel. Service will be at Chapman United Methodist Church Saturday,&nbsp; June 12th at 10 a.m.&nbsp; Burial will be at Indian Hill Cemetery, Chapman.

Lisa M. Homman, daughter of Betty and Eldon Hildebrandt, was born September 1, 1970 in Independence, Missouri. She passed away at her home in Abilene on June 8, 2021. Never before has a more caring and loving wife, daughter and mother ever been. Lisa spent her childhood as a “mountain girl” in Colorado and Montana before moving to Kansas with her mother in 1989 where she met her husband on a blind date arranged by mutual friends who thought they would make a “good pair”. As has recently been revealed by casual observers, Lance was obviously “smitten” with her from the moment they first met. She attended Moffat County schools in Craig, Colorado before moving to Laurel, Montana with her parents where she graduated from Laurel HighSchool in 1989. She later attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas. Lisa worked at and later managed the Short Stop in Abilene, West’s Country Mart and then, as a pharmacy technician, at Patterson’s Healthcare Pharmacy in Abilene. She spent the later years of her life as a homemaker who loved her husband, two children, mother and dogs deeply. Lisa was preceded in her death by her parents-in-law, Garold and Anne Homman, who treated her like their own daughter. She is survived by her husband, Lance, two children, Dalian and Tabor, and her dogs, Harley and Taz, all of the home, her mother, Betty Hildebrandt, of Salina, her brother Todd Hildebrandt (Kathy) of Salina, and many nephews and nieces. Maxine Brose Neill, 101 died June 8, 2021 in Manhattan, KS.&nbsp; She was born on August 15, 1919 in Clay County, the daughter of Carl and Rena (Siemers) Brose.&nbsp; Maxine was a graduate of the Clifton High School class of 1937.&nbsp; Following high school, she attended cosmetology school in Wichita. &nbsp;Maxine married Frank Neill on December 27, 1942.&nbsp; She worked as a beauty operator in Lawrence, Chicago and in Clay Center. Then in 1946, they returned to the family farm south-east of Clay Center.&nbsp; Frank preceded her in death on May 9, 1995.&nbsp; Maxine was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as deacon, the As You Are Club, Neighborhood Club, Friendship Club, served on the Presbyterian Manor board and volunteered at the Lighthouse for Christ and the Presbyterian Manor.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by parents and a sister, Gladys Hammons.

Maxine Brose Neill

Rosie Clarice (Keck) Barnes, age 88, of Manhattan, Kansas, went to her heavenly home Friday, June 4, 2021.

Rosie was born in Oketo, Kansas on August 26, 1932, to parents Clarence and Minnie Keck. She was born at home on the farm, attended by a local rural doctor. Although August 26 was the birth date recorded by Rosie’s mother, the doctor recorded August 29 on the birth certificate. It is assumed the doctor made a mistake since Rosie was one of eleven children born to the couple.

Growing up on the farm, Rosie attended a one-room rural grade school and graduated from Marysville High school. She moved to Manhattan where she attended MCC (formerly Manhattan Bible College) and graduated with an associate degree. She later earned a degree from Manhattan Vocational Technical College and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Rosie worked as a nurse for nearly 30 years at Via Christi Ascension (formerly St. Mary’s and Mercy Hospital). She was a caring and effective nurse, and she touched many lives during her years of devoted service as a nurse.

Rosie met and married Jack L Barnes while attending Manhattan Bible College. She married Jack on March 16, 1951, and they were happily married for nearly 60 years. She liked to say, “two months short of 60 years is close enough to count”. She served as a minister’s wife while he was a minister early in their marriage.

Jack and Rosie had 4 children: three daughters and a son. She also opened her home to anyone in need including her younger twin sisters, many nieces, nephews, and foster children as well as her own parents. Although Rosie loved all her family, she had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren. Although she would occasionally have cause to gently reprimand them, she would not tolerate criticism of her grandchildren from others. Each grandchild knew they had a strong champion on their side in Grandma Barnes.

Rosie had a life-long love of horses. In her early days on the farm, she and her brother and sisters would climb on the family horse “Prince” and head for the pond where Prince would take 4-5 siblings on his back for a swim. On winter days when it was too cold or snowy to walk to school, they would sometimes ride Prince through the snow to school. Later, when Rosie’s own children were young, a palomino mare named “Silver” became the family horse. She also loved birds, particularly owls and hummingbirds. For many years she carried birdseed through the snow to fill the backyard bird feeders and provided nectar for the hummingbirds in the summers.

A dedicated Christian, Rosie served many years as a treasurer and Sunday School teacher at Crestview Christian Church in Manhattan, was a member and Sunday School teacher at Junction City First Christian Church, and later attended University Christian Church in Manhattan. She raised her children to love God and treat others as they would want to be treated, demonstrating her faith by her service and generosity to others.

Rosie is survived by her children, Deborah (Ron) Lang of Junction City, Kansas, Cindy (Dann) Leach of Valley Center, Kansas, David (Jay) Barnes of Huson, Montana, and Jacque (Brian) Shane of Alta Vista, Kansas; her 9 beloved grandchildren, Scott, Shawn, Jeremy, Michael, Jesse, Ryan, Mathew, Daniel, and Danielle; 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Hazel (Arlo) Janzen of Hesston, Kansas, Violet Kelley of Lyons, Kansas, and brother Robert (Shirley) Keck of Mona, Utah.

Rosie Barnes was preceded in death by her husband Jack L. Rosie Clarice (Keck) Barnes, age 88, of Manhattan, Kansas, went to her heavenly home Friday, June 4, 2021. Rosie was born in Oketo, Kansas on August 26, 1932, to parents Clarence and Minnie Keck. She was born at home on the farm, attended by a local rural doctor. Although August 26 was the birth date recorded by Rosie’s mother, the doctor recorded August 29 on the birth certificate. It is assumed the doctor made a mistake since Rosie was one of eleven children born to the couple. Growing up on the farm, Rosie attended a one-room rural grade school and graduated from Marysville High school. She moved to Manhattan where she attended MCC (formerly Manhattan Bible College) and graduated with an associate degree. She later earned a degree from Manhattan Vocational Technical College and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Rosie worked as a nurse for nearly 30 years at Via Christi Ascension (formerly St. Mary’s and Mercy Hospital). She was a caring and effective nurse, and she touched many lives during her years of devoted service as a nurse. Rosie met and married Jack L Barnes while attending Manhattan Bible College. Arvilla Ann Lloyd, 83, Wamego, KS passed away Monday, June 7, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS.

On May 30, 1938 Arvilla, was born to William “Bill” and Sophia (Schrieber) Thowe in Alma, KS.&nbsp; Arvilla graduated from Alma High School in 1956 and started working for Hallmark.&nbsp; After Hallmark, Arvilla dedicated 50 years of her life as a legal secretary in Wabaunsee County.&nbsp; She began working for the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s department.&nbsp; She then moved on to the Wabaunsee County Attorney’s Office and worked for Bill Baldock and Jack Turner before retiring in 1999.&nbsp; Arvilla was united in marriage with Jack F. Lloyd on May 8, 1958 in Peace United Church of Christ in Alma, KS.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on August 22, 1998.

Arvilla dedicated most of her free time towards her family.&nbsp; She rarely missed one of her children’s, grandchildren’s or great-grandchildren’s events.&nbsp; She loved spending time with friends, especially those who were H&amp;L Enterprise members, and dancing with Jack at the fair barn dances.&nbsp; Arvilla also enjoyed flowers, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and Kansas State football games with her dog, Daisy.&nbsp; Arvilla was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ while Jack and she lived in Alma. After Jack’s passing, Arvilla moved to Wamego and became a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her two children, Angie Fair (Rex) and Dan Lloyd (Angela), both of Wamego, KS; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Day (Jimmy), Staci Weeks (Jason), Erica Swenson, Chelsea Lloyd (Josh Wallin), Darren Lloyd, Caleb Fair, Blake Fair and Jeremy Swenson; fifteen great-grandchildren, James Jr., Brock, MaKinnley, Jaidyn, Talon, Chase, Rylee, Harlee, Kyler, Tyler, Abby, Olivia, Robert, Allannah, and Mackenzie; one sister, Evelyn Davis (Denny), Alma, KS; a former son-in-law, John Morway; and several nieces and nephews.

She is also preceded in death by four siblings, Adella Gaston, Delores Haller, Marlene Briscoe and Wilma Hafenstein.

Shirley’s life began on October 27, 1935, in Herington.  She is the daughter of Harry and Elsie (Brockmeier) Schlesener.  Shirley is a 1953 graduate of Herington High School and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School.  She was united in marriage to Keith D. Longabaugh on June 14, 1953, at St. Paul’s Church.  Along with being an active member of the church, Shirley enjoyed the church’s quilting club, sponsoring the youth group and preparing food for church events. She loved to do crafts and with her sister Sharon took their crafts to shows.  She enjoyed traveling with Keith and her family.  Shirley is fondly remembered as an outstanding gardener, mowing her lawn and the neighbors, too.  She was a strong and determined wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

  Her loving family includes her children Dr. James (Michele) Longabaugh of Sabetha, Jerry Longabaugh of Wichita, and Cheryl (Jason) Webb of Monett, MO.; grandchildren Matthew Longabaugh, Jordan Longabaugh, Jake Longabaugh, CJ (Blake Wachter) Longabaugh, AJ ( Grant Sorenson) Longabaugh, Maggie Hull, Tyler Webb, Nathan (Kelsey) Webb and Emily Webb; great grandchildren Willa and Lauretta Hull and her siblings Sharon (Larry) Senner, Glen (Darlene) Schlesener and Donna Jean ( Dale) Koontz and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be Sunday June 13th at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church led by Pastor Bill Neuman.  She will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Jack was born on January 27, 1934, Waukegan, Illinois the son of Ervin and Emma (Harding) Salzman. Jack was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Earl C. Gromley American Legion Post #45. He served in the United States Air Force for four years. On September 30, 1956 he married Barbara Salzman. Jack is survived by his loving Wife, Barbara, his Daughter, Carolyn (Don) Stevens of Milford, KS; Four Sons, Steven (Renee) Salzman of Randolph, KS, Allen (Kathy) Salzman of Falun, KS, David (Sumae) Salzman of Wichita, KS, Robert (Judy) Salzman of Wheeling, IL; two sisters, Donna and Darlene; fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary Lee Johnson, age 84 of Leonardville, passed away Monday, June 7, 2021 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

He was born on April 29, 1937 in the Pleasant Hill Community, the son of Irving and Gerna (Siebold) Johnson.  He graduated from Leonardville High School.

On January 17, 1961 in the Parish Hall of the Riley Presbyterian Church, he married Shirley Jo Hageman.

Gary owned and operated Johnson Welding and was a blacksmith, welder and fabricator.  He enjoyed conversations with the coffee crowd in Leonardville and taking bus trips to the casino.  In his younger years, he liked to hunt and fish and play golf.  Going to auctions and collecting antiques were also an interest to him.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Johnson of Leonardville; one son, Gregory Johnson and wife Sun of Manhattan; one daughter, Sue Knight and husband Mitch of Leonardville; two brothers, Gail Johnson of Waterville and Mike Johnson and wife Cindy of Leonardville; one sister, Sharrie Peterson of Keats; two grandchildren, Jesse Knight (Deidre) of Council Grove and Whitney Knight (Jeff Huber) of Leonardville and two great grandchildren, Braelyn Grace Huber and Karson Lee Huber.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Earl Peterson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Fairview Presbyterian Church with Pastor Gerry Sharp officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.

Yadon, lifelong resident of Council Grove passed away June 4, 2021 at Morris County Hospital.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born June 20, 1953 to Carl and Dorothy (Krause) Yadon in Council Grove. &nbsp;Glen enjoyed farming, buying and selling livestock, working many years along side his father.&nbsp;&nbsp;He enjoyed gardening and was known as a wheeler and dealer.

Glen married Michelle Garrett and from that union, they had a son, Baylor.&nbsp;&nbsp;They divorced.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Glen later married Pam Siegrist.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Justin Yadon.&nbsp;&nbsp;He is survived by his wife Pam; son Baylor Yadon; brothers: Kenny Yadon and wife Coleen and Keith Yadon and wife Gail; sisters: Kathy Meierhoff and husband Paul, Kandie Daniels and husband Jeff, and Kim Engel and Tim; 2 grandaughters; as well as nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Donna Lee Diskau, age 90 of Riley, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

She was born on April 15, 1931 on a farm in Northern Riley County, the daughter of Paul and Myrtle (Simnitt) Specht.

On May 19, 1949, she married Dean L. Diskau in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  He preceded her in death April 27, 2002.  Donna and Dean were best friends and partners.  They enjoyed their yearly trips to Arizona during the winter months and bringing home some of the treasures found on their outings.

Donna was a homemaker and took care of the books for her husband’s construction company.  She was a board member for the Manhattan Public Library and enjoyed playing bridge and golf with “the girls” on a weekly basis.  Donna was active in the Riley PTA while her daughter was in grade school and was instrumental in starting the book rental program.  She loved to knit and was a very accomplished seamstress.

She is survived by her daughter, Constance (Connie) Diskau of Riley; two grandsons, Jarrod Wege Sr. and wife Jennifer of Manhattan and Robert A. Wege and wife Heather of Newton; four great grandchildren, Jarrod Wege Jr., Jenna Wege and James Wege of Manhattan and Lakin Wege of Newton; one sister, Beverly Sundgren and husband Eldon of Leonardville; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Specht of Topeka and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Leland Specht; three sisters, Ila Simons, Kaye Blodgett and Shirley Higgins and three brothers-in-law, Walter Simon, Duane Higgins and Warren Blodgett.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday.  Burial will be in the Riley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leonardville Nursing Home and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Terry Jon (Hoop) Hooper, age 58, of Manhattan, died June 4, 2021, at Good Shepherd Hospice House. He was born October 7, 1962 at Memorial Hospital, Manhattan, Riley County, Kansas. The son of J. Lester and Olive (Shoup) Hooper. He grew up in Keats, Riley, Clay Center and Manhattan, Kansas. Terry attended Riley Grade School, Clay Center Garfield Grade School, McKinley Middle School, Marlatt Elementary School, Manhattan Junior High School, and Manhattan High School (1980). He graduated in 1981 from Manhattan Area Vocational Technical School in Auto Mechanics. As a child, he was a member of Cub Scouts and Webelos. He played tee-ball, baseball, and football. He was baptized and confirmed a member of the First United Methodist Church of Manhattan. During his high school years, he worked on refurbishing an antique auto body frame and later built a work truck. Terry worked for Murdock Chevrolet, Bob’s Glass, Powell Brothers’ Plumbing, installed solar panels, Cheney Construction, and Marker Brothers’ Construction, among others. He started TJH Handyman business and built his shop building. He was proud of his tools, equipment, and vehicles. Terry became a registered general contractor. His wide range of knowledge about construction and carpentry was utilized in building many houses, commercial buildings, cabinetry, handicap ramps, decks, fences, and sheds. He even built furniture. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local #2 and the Fraternal Order of United Commercial Travelers. As an adult, Terry helped coach his friend’s daughter’s tee-ball team. He enjoyed fishing with his friends. Terry was a good son who for many years helped his parents with their vegetable garden. He enjoyed the rose bushes by his back door. Friday evenings were spent with his friends. Family gatherings were important to Terry. A woodburning stove was a relaxing and cost-effective way to spend a winter evening. Over the years Terry had dogs and cats as his special buddies. Cooking was something he learned from his mother. He was good at making meals in the slow cooker. The parents and siblings enjoyed his specialties of, from scratch, cherry cheesecake and lasagna. Having a sense of humor and being a loyal friend were traits he had throughout his life. Terry loved being at his home. The youngest of 5 siblings, he was their little “buddy” and grew into a good friend to them. Terry helped the family with many automobile and handyman chores, imparting much knowledge on these subjects in the hopes they would be able to accomplish these tasks when he was not available. Terry worked very hard in his life to succeed in overcoming various adversities and roadblocks. He was a hard worker as an employee and in his own handyman business. He treated customers fairly and gave them quality workmanship. Jarold’s life began on March 13, 1938, the son of Jerry Anton and Esther Anna (Essig) Barta in Salina, Kansas. He graduated from Salina High Class of 1956 and attended one year of college at Kansas Wesleyan in Salina. He married Donna Marie McCullough on September 1, 2001 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.&nbsp;

He was a salesman for Pepsi, owned an A &amp; W, Frigid Queen, a motel, City Plumbing and Miss Lizzy’s. He enjoyed working, was a member of First Christian Church where he was a trustee. He was also a Chamber of Commerce Board and Motel Board member. He and Donna enjoyed traveling around the country and Turkey.

His loving family includes his wife of the home; daughter and her husband Rhonda and Robert Woods of Woodbridge, Virginia; stepchildren, Jennifer Del Rio (Alex) of Wichita, Kansas, Ellen Spencer (Chuck), Jeremy Thiessen and Jason Thiessen all of Potwin, Kansas; grandchildren, Michael, Victoria, Valerie, Adrian and Aja.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Russell Barta and a sister, Katherine Heck. Jarold passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the age of 83 years old.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 15 S. 1st Street, Herington. Interment will be held at the Bennington Cemetery in Bennington, Kansas at 4:00 p.m.

A memorial service for Dale Edward Burris, former resident of Junction City will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the First Baptist Church, Junction City.&nbsp; Visitation will take place 30 minutes prior to the memorial service at the church. Dale, 83,&nbsp; passed away November 15, 2020 at The Crossings at Flower Mound in Flower Mound, Texas.

Dale was born June 19, 1937, in Junction City, Kansas, to Marvin and Grace (Huston) Burris.  

He graduated from Junction City High School in 1955. 

Dale married Nancy Weak on June 7, 1964 in Abilene, Kansas.  They had two children Rodney and Jennifer.

He worked a variety of jobs including volunteer fireman for Geary County and Township trustee for Smokey Hill Township. In 1993, Dale retired as a Civil Service employee from Fort Riley.  He was a 40 plus year member of First Baptist Church, Junction City, where he served as deacon, trustee, Sunday School teacher, Youth Director, and Awana Commander.  

He is survived by one son, Rodney Burris, of The Colony, Texas; one daughter, Jennifer Crossman, of Junction City, Kansas; three sisters, Susie Parsons and Nancy (Ron) Metz both of Michigan, Helen Hartung of Wichita, Kansas, one brother, Carl Burris of Clay Center, Kansas, one sister-in-law Michiko Burris of Junction City, Kansas and four grandchildren, Kyle, Cody, Nathan and Rebecca.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Grace Burris, his wife, Nancy Burris and two brothers, Earl Burris and Derrell Burris.

She married Xavier "Buster" Kiefer February 27, 1981 in Junction City, KS.
