Wanda Marie Bean

Wanda Marie Bean passed away on Friday, July 23, surrounded by family.

Wanda, the beloved wife of Roger Lee Bean, was born in 1939 in Healy, Kansas, and raised in a sod home near Healy before moving to a house in town. Wanda is survived by her husband Roger, and by her children Brenda Kay Tooley and husband Michael Tooley, Rhonda Leigh Holloman and husband Ken (Spike) Holloman, Scott Roger Bean and wife Jill Bean and Jerry Lynn Bean and wife Jessie Bean, as well as six grandchildren, Tyler (Morgan), Kendal (Jeff), Nathan (Brianna), Luke, Gunner and Grant, and two great-granddaughters, Izzy and Zoey, and also by her siblings Diane Brown (Duane), Rolland Stewart (Carol), Beth Pike and Janice Tarvin, as well as her sister-in-law Karen Salyer (Theron) and Richard Bean (Betty). Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Ellsworth Stewart, and her sister Rita Barnes.

Wanda and Roger married in 1960. Wanda earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State University in 1960. Wanda worked in Forsyth Library as a student at Fort Hays, later becoming a teacher and substitute teacher as well as a loving homemaker for her husband and children. Wanda loved books and the libraries they came from, as well as many kinds of music. She enjoyed crochet, knitting and cross stitch, as well as gardening and being outdoors, but most of all spending time with her family. She was a gifted creative artist in many different craft mediums.

Wanda had a warm spirit and an exceptional ability to create a beautiful and welcoming home and garden. She was loved and adored by her family. She made any room she entered light up. Wanda loved to celebrate (and decorate for) the holidays, instilling this love in her children and grandchildren. She was a kind, loyal, thoughtful friend. She loved to laugh, enjoying the little things in life, with an ability to appreciate and find joy in the places and people around her. Family was profoundly important to her. She was loved by all who knew her. She touched many lives.
