Carol Ann Hammond, 71, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on November 15, 2024.&nbsp;

Carol Ann was born on January 27, 1953, to James A. Carter Sr., and Manuella (Bond) Carter in Fort Ord, California, but grew up in Kansas. Junction City was her home with most of her family members here in town.&nbsp;

After high school, she went on to work at a few factories in Junction City, Kansas. She made sure to provide for her family.

Retirement from the factory wasn't enough to please Ms. Carol Ann. She went on to work 20 years at the Junction City Transportation Company as a bus aide. She helped many children in the community.&nbsp;

She is survived by one daughter, Janell (Hammond) Smith of Junction City; one son, Vernon Carter of Junction City, Kansas; one brother, James Carter Jr., of Manhattan, Kansas and a host of loving grandchildren, family, and friends.&nbsp;

Carol Ann is preceded in death by her loving parents; one brother, Karl Carter and one sister-in-law, DeKarla Carter; two grandsons, Joshua L. Smith and Shawmon Johnson.&nbsp;

Donald was the son of Ellis and Dolores Marshbanks, born on August 30, 1950, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He grew up in Colorado Springs and later moved to Junction City, Kansas, where he established Don’s Mechanical and became a Master Plumber.&nbsp;

Don was passionate about all things Denver Broncos, KU Athletics, and PGA golf. He was a fierce family man and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandkids when he wasn’t watching a sporting event.

Neil Wallace, 75, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on November 7, 2024, in his home. Cremation has taken place and he will be brought back to his beloved home.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Neil was born on November 4, 1949, to Robert and Elizabeth Wallace in Glasgow, Scotland. He came to the United States with his parents when he was very young, never developing his Scottish accent.&nbsp;

He graduated from high school in 1967, enlisting into the United States Army soon after. Neil served his country honorably for six years.&nbsp;

After his enlistment years in the Army, he went on to Kansas State University earning a Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology. Animal science was Neil's passion. This passion allowed him to find a career at Kansas State in their animal science program. He stayed there until his retirement in 2021.&nbsp;

Neil's true passions will always be his kittens.&nbsp;

Neil is survived by his loving wife, Angelina and his kittens.&nbsp;

Lynn Ann Anderson (Schmedemann), born on December 14, 1948, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones at Good Shepherd Homecare &amp; Hospice in Manhattan. Her life was defined by a strong Christian faith and a deep love for her family, friends, and neighbors. It is difficult to capture all the wonderful things she accomplished in her time here on earth, but her legacy will continue to touch many lives.

Lynn grew up in rural Dwight, KS and was a graduate of Dwight High School. She married John Heublein and together the two of them raised what Lynn called her greatest blessing from the union - a daughter, Dawn, and a son, David. In 1995, John and Lynn divorced.&nbsp;

Lynn earned her Registered Nurse (RN) degree from Stormont Vail School of Nursing in 1968 and later received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Marymount College in Salina in 1989. Throughout her career, she dedicated herself to caring for others, working most of her professional career in the Salina area as a nurse at the Salina-Saline County Health Department and USD 305 as a school nurse. After a long career of service, she retired as a school nurse from USD 475. Her kindness and compassion made a lasting impact on her colleagues, students, and the many lives she touched.

Around 1997, Lynn met her soulmate, Ronald Anderson, when she asked him to start a colt for her. Thus began the greatest of love stories, and in 2000, Lynn and Ron were married in the mountains of Colorado on horseback - and muleback! For many years they would travel the countryside going on different trail rides and riding clinics, riding whenever they could. Together, they retired from their professions to begin a new one together: running the ranch that had been in her family for decades, working cattle, driving them on horseback, and sharing the daily responsibilities of tending to livestock. This partnership was a true testament to their love and dedication to each other.&nbsp;

Lynn is preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Elizabeth Schmedemann; her son, David Heublein; and her son-in-law, Steven Rohrer. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Anderson of the home; Dawn Rohrer of Salina, sister, Gail (Dale) Williamson, grandsons Cooper and Soren, Step-son Jack (Sara), niece Amy (Scott) and their daughters, Mackenzie, Elizabeth, and Alexandra, of Stuttgart, Germany; her daughter-of-her-heart, Ruth Ann Zimmer of Hays, and her sisters-in-law Carolyn, Sharon, and Linda, of Oklahoma, and many cousins. Lynn leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and understanding. She lived her life by the commandment to "love thy neighbor" and exemplified kindness and generosity in all she did.&nbsp;

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. There will be a Celebration of Life next spring, her favorite season, as Lynn wants family and friends to remember the good times and not the sad ones. She also requested that in lieu of a memorial to simply do something kind for someone else.

Cesario was born on June 23, 1945, in Naga City, Philippines, to parents Cesario and Milagros. Being the oldest of nine children, he was a natural leader and always determined to help his family when they needed him. After graduating school in the Philippines, he joined the US Army. After serving for over 20 years, including a tour during the Vietnam War, he achieved the rank of staff sergeant before retiring.

While in the military, Cesario met and married the love of his life, Emiliana Maghacot Sarsozo. In the early days of their courtship, they would write letters to one another while he was recovering in Germany and she was working in Holland. They were married in early April of 1972, before having their first child, Emmilyn, in December of that year. They would go on to have two more children, Emmylou and Cesario III. During this time, the family was stationed in many places including Germany, Hawaii, and California; before putting down roots in Manhattan, Kansas. There, Cesario would form a community in the Catholic church at Fort Riley, the Knights of Columbus, and the Junction City Phil-Am Association.

Despite his later health struggles, Cesario was always determined to show up and be there for others, even if it meant putting himself at an inconvenience. He was respectful and kind, and had a good-natured sense of humor, reminding us all not to take life too seriously. Most notably of all his qualities, Cesario was a fighter. Every obstacle put in his way was eventually broken down by his tenacity and stubbornness, even until the very end.

Cesario was preceded in death by his wife, Emma; his two daughters, Emmilyn and Emmylou; and his brother, Florito.

He is survived by son Cesario Sarsozo III; grand-daughter Jocilyn Sarsozo; siblings Elena, Florinia, Eduardo, Marilyn, Fe, Jose, David; and several loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Brenda Bergsten Craig, 71, of Milford, Kansas died on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Stonybrook Retirement Home in Manhattan, Kansas.

A funeral service will take place 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Johnson &amp; Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral at Randolph Fancy Creek Cemetery.

She lost her father when she was eight months old and was raised by her mother who worked as a beautician with a salon in their home. The family lived in old Randolph town until it was flooded in 1957 when Tuttle Creek Reservoir was established. The threesome moved to Manhattan where they had lots of help from a loving extended family.

Brenda excelled in academics, Girl Scouts, music, and served as a student conductor for the high school stage band. She graduated from Manhattan High in 1971. She and Tom started dating toward the end of her senior year,

She studied Early Childhood Development at KSU and graduated with honors (magna cum laude &amp; Phi Kappa Phi) in 1975. Shortly after graduation she married Tom Craig.

The two survived on her teaching salary while her husband completed medical school. Brenda was awarded a PHT (putting husband through medical school) in 1978. During Tom's residency for Internal Medicine, she attended Galveston Community College for financial and business classes. In 1981 she helped her husband open his medical practice serving as his office manager and assistant in all things.

In 1982 Tom and Brenda welcomed their daughter Rebecca and in 1987 their son James. Brenda took great delight in being a mother and spent as much time as possible with her children. The house was always full of kids needing love, laughter and a listening eart She was a mother to many wayward children that were not biologically hers.

Brenda was a huge support to her two children. She aided James with both his undergraduate and graduate school admissions applications. She helped her daughter Rebecca build her small business and pursue a post graduate degree. She and her husband Tom also provided support to their son-in-law Andrew Swarts when he became a successful small business owner.

She survived a terribie car accident in 1995 and supported her husband through three different cancer treatments and surgeries. Brenda also survived multiple strokes and heart attacks. During all these challenging fife events, her faith remained strong.

The last two years, she resided at Stoneybrook in Manhattan. During that time, many friends and family members came to visit, She was known for her compassion, humor, and generosity. Even after her last stroke she was always finding ways to help others and make people laugh, She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband Dr. Tom Craig of Junction City, Kansas; one son, James Craig (Sarah) of Grantham, New Hampshire; one daughter, Rebecca Swarts (Andrew) of Manhattan, Kansas; one sister, Beth Bergsten of Manhattan, Kansas; four grandchildren, Charlotte, Leo, James and Joshua.

Ron was born May 1. 1944 in Keyser, West Virginia the son of Woodrow and Betty (Schoppert) McNemar. He grew up in Baltimore, Maryland.&nbsp;

Ron retired from the United States Army after twenty plus years of service. He also served four years in the United States Air Force. After his retirement, he became a school teacher in Harford County, Maryland. After his teaching retirement, he moved back to Kansas.

Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and shooting skeet. He spent many years participating as a historical actor with the Abilene Gunfighters.&nbsp;

On September 28, 1965, he married Jutta R. Feldrapp.

Leslie “Les” Stephen Chaves, 71, of Junction City, Kansas, passed on October 20, 2024, in Wakefield, Kansas.

Leslie was born in Junction City, Kansas to Charles Chaves and Glorcia Rhodeman on October 27, 1952. Les attended Junction City High School and graduated in 1970. During his years in high school, Les excelled in football, basketball, track, and was part of teams that won state championships in football, basketball, and track (1969-1970). He received many awards while in high schools.

Upon his graduation from Junction City High School, Les attended Coffeyville Community Junior College in Coffeyville, Kansas for two years. He started in football and basketball and received many awards. Les then furthered his athletic and educational careers at Kansas State University. He served as tri-captain of the Kansas State Wildcat football team. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions of the National Football League in 1975. That same year he received the proclamation declaring Les Chaves Day in Junction City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Leon Chaves.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son Leslie "Chuggs" Chaves, Jr.; his sister, Leonetta Bibby of Junction City, Kansas; brother Michael (Linde) Chaves of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

Visitation will be held at Second Missionary Baptist Church on October 31, 2024, at 12 pm. Funeral service will be held at Second Missionary Baptist Church on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.

Hermine Theresa (Linda) Johnson, age 90, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away on October 21, 2024 at her home with her family. Linda was a three-time cancer survivor, but succumbed to the bodily effects of Dementia.

Linda was born May 10, 1934 to her parents Hermann Shiessl and Welburga (Godiska) Shiessl, in Munich Germany.

She married Achim Meixner in 1956 and gave birth to her son Jurgen Meixner. After a divorce, Linda later married Lazaro Quintanar and started her life as a military wife travelling to military bases in Georgia, Alaska, Kansas, California and Germany. During this time, she gave birth to sons Michael and David. Unfortunately, the marriage did not last.&nbsp;

For the next several years Linda was a single mother raising 2 boys on her own. She worked two to three jobs at a time to make ends meet. She always had a good head for business which provided the opportunity to earn the manager position at Payless Shoe store in Junction City.

Then she met Wilson “Alex” Johnson Jr., the true love of her life and they married in 1974. They lived a wonderful and happy life together.&nbsp;

Linda always had a deep love for children and would often have many little ones in the neighborhood that she would love on and help mentor as they grew up. She was “Oma” to every child she met. It was no surprise when she opened a children’s daycare as her final occupation.

Linda is proceeded in death by her parents and her true love, Wilson Christopher Alexander Johnson Jr., whom she will lay with at the Fort Riley cemetery.

She is survived by her brother Hermann Shiessl and his wife Christa of Oberhaching Germany.

One niece: Evelyn Shiessl of Brunnthal, Germany.

Dietrich, 84, of Junction City, Kansas, died October 13, 2024, at Stormont-Vail Flint Hills Campus in Junction City, Kansas.Sandra was born January 4, 1940 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Fred and Jewel Womack. She met the love of her life, Roger L. Dietrich, in El Paso, Texas, whom she later married on February 4, 1961. He died November 6, 2006.

She followed her husband to numerous Army duty stations and worked various jobs making many friends along the way. She settled in Junction City, Kansas, in the 1970's after her husband retired. She enjoyed crocheting, plants, her animals and Mexican food. Her greatest joy were her five grandchildren whom she took care of during their childhood. She loved visits from her great-grandson, Leo, who always made her smile.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger, and one grandson, Eric Hurst. Cathy Lynn (Moore) Thornhill, 65, was born August 19, 1959, in Waterloo, Iowa to Rayman Moore Sr. and Delores (Livingston) Moore. Cathy passed away October 1, 2024 in Topeka, Kansas Hospital surrounded by her daughters.

Cathy graduated from Tripoli High School, Tripoli Iowa in 1977. When Cathy graduated, she attended Indian Hills College, Ottumwa. She joined the US Army, serving for 10 years 4 months. (1985-1996). While in the service she married Richard Thornhill, and they were later divorced. She specialized in light vehicle Mechanic’s. She was stationed in Korea; Germany and her final duty was at Ft. Riley Kansas. Cathy was a Veteran of the Golf War. She proudly served her country. While in the service she was awarded 2 Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service medal with 2 Bronze service stars and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.

When Cathy got out of the military, she worked at several different jobs in Kansas. Working in a mailbox factory, the Post Office, a Jailer at the Sheriff’s Department, even getting her CDL and driving semi-trucks for a short period.

Cathy loved to volunteer as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army during the holiday season and volunteered for United Way for many years. In Cathy’s downtime, she enjoyed crocheting.

Cathy was proceeded in death by her parents, Rayman Moore Sr. and Delores Moore.

Cathy is survived by her four Children: Andrew Thornhill, Marie (John) Holmes-Wernecke, Tambra Thornhill, Michelle Thornhill, four Grand Daughters and two Grand Sons.

Her four sisters, Wanda (Ronny) Heidemann, Clarissa Moore, Donna (Mark) Zell, Karen Thurm, and two brothers, Rayman (Carri) Moore Jr., Lonny (Shawntelle) Moore; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, great niece and nephews. She is also survived by an Uncle John (Sandy) Livingston and an Aunt, Rose Boyce.

Mary Ann McClure (Zoeller), 92, of Alma, Kansas, passed away on October 3, 2024, at the Wamego Health Center, Wamego, Kansas.

&nbsp; Mary was born June 17, 1932, in Flush, Kansas, to parents Albinus Zoeller and Victoria (Weixelman) Zoeller. She married Paul “Bub” Dean McClure in Flush in 1953 and spent their lives together farming for 60 years until his death in 2013.

&nbsp; Mary is survived by daughters Becky McClure and Debora (Mike) Life, and a sister, Betty Lou Ridder.

&nbsp; Mary was preceded in death by her parents, son Rex Alan McClure, brother Eugene “Bud” Zoeller, and sister Jeannine Blakeley.

Lisa was born December 18, 1970 in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Gary and Judy Porter. Lisa is survived by her Mother, and her partner Devin Houston and her brothers Jeffrey Porter and Brian Porter. Charlotte Brighton Herr, age 91, of Manhattan, KS passed away September 26, 2024 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

After completing a BFA in Interior Design at the University of Kansas, Charlotte went to the Big Apple for a summer of study at the NY Institute of Interior Design. She returned to the Little Apple to work for 36 years with Brighton Home Furnishings as the third generation in the furniture business. Charlotte met her husband, Chuck Herr, at United Methodist Church of Manhattan and they were married in 1956. Together, they were partners in Brighton Home Furnishings and shared in a 54-year hobby of historic preservation with apartments and homes in Manhattan and Ogden. The store and apartments provided multiple generations of family members the opportunity to learn how to decorate, hang wallpaper and make drapes.

Charlotte and Chuck provided a home to more than just their family. They hosted several foreign students thru AFS, were involved for many years providing foster children a needed home, and mentored a graduate student while she completed a graduate Art degree at KSU. Charlotte’s long life in Manhattan, as well as being a local business owner, allowed her to share her talents with newcomers. And she knew everybody.

We remember Charlotte saying “what box” in approaching any creative project, whether it was personalized decorating projects for clients or designing her own quilts. Charlotte made her first quilt 64 years ago when pregnant with first daughter, very much an “in the box” hand quilted project. A second phase of quilting started when her girls were in high school and college. This began her “outside of the box” phase completing each project herself with an electric needle. The Konza Prairie Quilters’ Guild was dear to her; for many years Charlotte participated in their activities: teaching classes, serving as president, and sharing in the joy of fabric arts with others who loved it as much as she did. Any time Charlotte’s work was in a national show, Chuck made the arrangements to travel to the show. She was appreciative for the time, space, and equipment that made it possible to “do her thing” and create whatever she needed.

Charlotte was preceded in death by both parents, Don and Olga Brighton; brother, Jim Brighton; and her beloved Husband, Chuck Herr. She is survived by sisters, Mary Funk and Bobbie Trowbridge; brother, Tom Brighton; daughters, Conni Scherff and Claudia Herr; grandson, Riley Scherff; and nieces and nephews.

Elaine Rose (Pfannenstiel) Fulkerson was born on 8 April 1931, the eldest of eleven children. She had nine sisters and one brother. Elaine began life in Colorado and moved to Hays and other towns in Kansas during her childhood. She died on 11 October 2024, at age 93 years and six months.

Elaine is survived by her siblings: Marlene, Wilma (Joe), Carolyn, Norman (Glenda), Pauletta, and Romelda; her children, James (Laura), Deborah (Bill), and Katherine; 11 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and 8 Great-Great Grandchildren. Elaine was predeceased by her sisters, Shirley Ann, Shirley Anna, Joan, and Aletha.

Elaine was married on 16 March 1951 at McCracken, Kansas to James Chester Fulkerson. He predeceased Elaine in 1996. She lived in Alaska, Germany, Kansas. Kentucky, Maryland, and Texas, and returned to Kansas after her husband retired from the military. She was a dedicated homemaker, gardener, and mother, and started her own cleaning business before transitioning into an independent grocery store demonstrator. She retired at age 86.&nbsp;&nbsp;Elaine was always active in crafting and became active in Crafty Seniors and remained a member for many years, until Covid forced them to disband.

Services will be held at a later date.&nbsp; The Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502, is assisting the family with the service arrangements.

She died on 11 October 2024, at age 93 years and six months.Elaine is survived by her siblings: Marlene, Wilma (Joe), Carolyn, Norman (Glenda), Pauletta, and Romelda; her children, James (Laura), Deborah (Bill), and Katherine; 11 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and 8 Great-Great Grandchildren. Elaine was predeceased by her sisters, Shirley Ann, Shirley Anna, Joan, and Aletha.Elaine was married on 16 March 1951 at McCracken, Kansas to James Chester Fulkerson. He predeceased Elaine in 1996. She lived in Alaska, Germany, Kansas. Kentucky, Maryland, and Texas, and returned to Kansas after her husband retired from the military. She was a dedicated homemaker, gardener, and mother, and started her own cleaning business before transitioning into an independent grocery store demonstrator. She retired at age 86.&nbsp;&nbsp;Elaine was always active in crafting and became active in Crafty Seniors and remained a member for many years, until Covid forced them to disband.Services will be held at a later date.&nbsp; The Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502, is assisting the family with the service arrangements.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Page Mershon passed away October 10, 2024 at the Home of the Flint Hills in St. George, Kansas.

Jacqueline (known as Jackie) was born November 24, 1935, in Oakley, Kansas, the daughter of Wesley and Luella Wolfe Page and was the oldest of four children. Jacqueline was a 1953 graduate of Oakley high where she participated in many school activities including band and plays. Upon graduation, Jackie was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Stormont Vail School of Nursing in Topeka, Kansas. She graduated in 1956 as a Register Nurse (RN).&nbsp;

While in nursing school, Jackie found the love of her life, Jerry L. Mershon (also from Oakley, KS) and they married in April of 1957. Jackie worked as a nurse in Topeka and supported her husband while he was attending Washburn Law School in Topeka. Jackie and Jerry moved to Manhattan, Kansas in 1961 where she spent the remainder of her life.

Jackie and Jerry had three children: Diane, Michelle, and Daniel. She was a caring, supportive wife and mother and always had encouraging words for her family. She was actively involved with her children’s activities serving as Brownie leader, Cub Scout Den mother, and several PTA committees.

Jackie had a long career as a working RN except for nine years when she stayed home with the children. While living in Manhattan, she worked at Memorial Hospital from 1961-1964. She worked at St Mary’s Hospital from 1973 to 1999 and retired at age 64.

Jackie graduated from Kansas State University in 1982 with a BS Life Science degree with secondary major in Gerontology with Magna Cum Laude honors.

She received the Heaton Scholarship Award for working women attending Kansas State University with 3.5 or better grade point average. She was also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Scholastic Society, 1981.

She actively served on the board at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community, Riley County Historical Museum and the Colorado Christian Home for Children and Families. In addition, she was a member of the Manhattan Literature Club and the PEO Chapter IW. She took simple pleasures in many things, including a love for the outdoors and was a Docent for Konza Prairie Research Natural Area.

She loved God and was actively involved in the Methodist and First Christian church in Manhattan, Kansas.

She is survived by her husband Jerry Mershon, children Diane Mershon Heyman (husband Mark), Michelle Mershon Munster (husband Greg), Daniel Mershon; grandchildren Grant Heyman, Ryan Munster, Marissa Munster; siblings Harvey Page (wife Peggy), and Ronald Page (wife Debbi).

She was preceded in death by her sister Carolyn Page Theobald and her brother-in-law Noland Theobald.

The funeral will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Avenue in Manhattan, Kansas on Thursday, October 17,2024 at 11:00a.m., with Pastor Donna Voteau officiating. Interment will be held at 1:00p.m. Friday October 18 at the Oakley Cemetery in Oakley, Kansas

Cheryl “Sherri” Lynn Helzer, age 65, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2024, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, Kansas. She was born on July 23, 1959, to parents Kenneth and Margaret (Silva) Casey, Manhattan, Kansas.

Sherri grew up in Manhattan, KS, and graduated from Manhattan High School with the class of 1977. She later earned an associate's degree and has worked as an accounting manager throughout her life. On June 22, 1991, she married Jeff Helzer. Sherri loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. She enjoyed making mints for friend’s weddings, playing bingo, and making flower arrangements. She was a member of The Fraternal Order of the Eagles Women’s Auxiliary 830, Junction City, KS.

Survivors include her husband, Jeff, of Manhattan, KS; children Brandy Casey of Manhattan, KS, and Dallas Helzer of Krakow, Poland; stepchildren Anthony (Billie) Helzer and Virginia Helzer of Newton, KS; six grandchildren Benjamin Casey, Raevyn Sanders, Ryan Helzer, Nathan Helzer, Samuel Helzer, and Mikayla Helzer; and siblings Ron Casey, Sandy Steck, and Nancy Burk.

Sherri was preceded in death by both parents and her brother, Bill Casey.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

&nbsp; John “Butch” Robert Kelly, 78, of Junction City, passed on October 7, 2024 in Augusta, Kansas of natural causes. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Johnson &amp; Mass-Hinitt in Junction City. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in Manhattan, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Dementia Society of America, 188 N. John was born in Vancouver, Washington on February 14, 1946 to Charles and Jean Kelly. He is survived by his son Mike Kelly, sisters Pamela Schmidt, Jane Simms and Pat Small, nine nieces and nephews and twelve great nieces and nephews who will miss Uncle Butch.

John graduated from Junction City High School in 1964. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 and was a veteran of the Viet Nam War.

John enjoyed a life on the road, spending most of his years driving a passenger bus or long-haul truck. He made his home in places from Kansas to Texas to Japan to Arizona and more in between. His wanderlust was a constant companion even in his final days when his favorite topic was the next vacation he was planning which included, of course, a boat and history. There are many ways to remember John. Some may picture him with a tanned left arm hanging out of an open window, hand on the mirror, humming along to whatever old country crackles through the am radio. “Now, that’s what I call music,” he’d say and grin. 

His nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews may have holiday reminders of his skill with a needle when they hang their intricately stitched holiday stockings. And God help you if you were his cashier at the local store where he would chat you up, a one-man queue creator. He was a man who, at the same time, longed for Americana and Fiji, human connection and solitude, and more fried potatoes and ice cream. Sometimes he got what he wanted (especially when it was mint chocolate chip). May he get it again. See you down the road, Butch.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; Erika G. Losonszky, 82, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on October 7, 2024, at Valley View Senior Life Center. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Erika was born on December 21, 1941, in Berlin, Germany. She later traveled to the United States with her family. Being a military spouse allowed her to travel all around the United States. She was very proud of her naturalization to the United States of America.

Erika will be missed by her friends and family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; Mr. Jay Hassanzadeh was born on October 2nd, 1953 in Khorramshahr, Iran. He was the son of Abalgosm Hassanzadeh and Selemeh Nasseraldine. He was the eldest of six siblings. 

While in Iran, Jay was enlisted in the Imperial Guard of Iran, for nine years, as a tanker. He came to the United States in 1977 to further his education. Mr. Jay attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University and transferred to Texas A&amp;M where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree. He also graduated from Dunkin Donut University in 1993, to become the owner and operator of three Dunkin Donut franchises in San Antonio and Ft. Worth Texas. During that time, he met his beautiful wife, Belinda Juarez of San Antonio. They recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on August 30th.

In 1997, Jay moved to Junction City, Kansas, and opened Daylight Donuts on N. Washington St., where he served the community for twenty years. He was a kind-hearted and giving man who was adored by his customers and became a pillar in the community. Daylight Donuts was a cash-only establishment, and he would never refuse services to those who did not have cash. He trusted they would return to pay their tab, and they never broke his trust.

Mr. Jay was a dedicated husband and loving grandpa. His pride and joy were his grandchildren who meant the world to him. He loved watching sports with his boys, playing bingo, video chatting with his family, and yearly family vacations. He enjoyed watching Westerns, comedies, game shows and staying up with current events.

Mr. Jay is survived by his loving wife Belinda, and his children Kathryn, Mina, and Georgiane. Son-in-Laws Jason Mortimer, Meshach Casey, and Jason Boss. Grandsons, Andrew, Tristan, Craig, and Hudson. Granddaughters Madisan, Emma, Marley, Lachlynn, and newest granddaughter arriving in December! Mr. Jay had a loving relationship with his sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and brother, whom he would talk to daily. Mr. Jay was predeceased by his parents, Abalgosm and Selemeh, his father-in-law, Albert Juarez, his sister Soheila, his sister-in-law Marylou, and his three-year-old grandson, Brady Mortimer.

&nbsp; Bernard E. (Snookie) Schroeder, 79, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on October 4, 2024, at Chapman Valley Manor. He was born on June 27, 1945, to Nicholas and Burnice (Freeman) Schroeder in Dallas, Texas.

Bernard grew up and attended school in Junction City, Kansas. He attended auto transmission repair school in Dallas, Texas. He was a good mechanic, learning most of his skills from his father. He held various jobs throughout his adulthood, some to include working for Davey Tree Company and later becoming a supervisor for the company. This allowed him to travel all throughout Kansas.

He is survived by his son Chris (Staci) Schroeder of Junction City, Kansas; one sister, Peggy (Bud) Stupka of Colby, Kansas; two nieces, Lisa Olson of Atwood, Kansas and Denise Stupka of Colby, Kansas; two great-nephews, Taylor (Christy) Olson of Waynesville, Missouri and their children, Carter and Cohen, and Arie Olson of Kansas City, Missouri; one great-niece, Diahonia Olson of Atwood, Kansas.He is preceded by his parents.
