Kenneth Gerald Mayer, 78, known as “Kenny,” passed away on April 15, 2025, at his home in Wamego, Kansas.

&nbsp; Kenny was born on August 17, 1946, in Westmoreland, Kansas, to parents George and Emma (Kuhn) Mayer. He married Jean Blanka on June 14, 1969, in Louisville, Kansas.

&nbsp; Kenny was a simple and private man. He enjoyed tinkering on broken tractors and trucks. He worked as a construction foreman for Bayer Construction Co. in Manhattan, Kansas, until his retirement. He loved his time with his family and cats.

&nbsp; He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Josh Mayer (Laura) and Jonathan Mayer (Carolina); and grandsons, Benjamin and Mateo Mayer.

LaVetra Florene (Evans) Brown, age 91, of Abilene, Kansas passed away April 10, 2025 in Abilene. She was born October 13, 1933 in Turpin, Oklahoma, the daughter of Rupert R. and Maurine Mae (Cox) Evans. She married Kenneth W. Brown from Cleo Springs, Oklahoma on December 27, 1953. They were the first married couple to graduate from NWOSU. After graduation she followed Ken in the US Army to Ft. Bliss, Texas, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, and Kaiserslautern, Germany.LaVetra taught Business at Coats, Kansas Consolidated School from 1956-1958. She later taught Business, Physical Education, Reading, and was a media specialist in Partridge, Minneapolis, and Abilene, Kansas, where she retired in 1994. She was a member of KNEA, NEA, and an active member of KASL (Kansas Association of School Librarians). 

She served two terms on the Abilene City Library Board.LaVetra was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a loyal friend to many. She was an avid athlete and loved to enjoy many sports. She loved to watch KU basketball and there were few things in life that took priority over watching a game! She also loved to travel and she and Ken traveled extensively in their retirement years.LaVetra was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth. Dorislene Price, 87, of Spearville, Kansas, formerly of Borger, Texas, Fritch, Texas, Great Bend, Kansas, and Junction City, Kansas, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Southwind at Spearville.

She was born on April 16, 1937, in Henrietta, Texas, the daughter of Roy Reuben (RR) Tilson and Robbie Mae (Payne) Tilson. She graduated from Borger High School in 1955 and then attended business college. She worked for several gas and oil companies and spent 17 years as an inventory manager for Dresser Industries. She was also a member of the Desk and Derrick Club.

She adored her family. She was a devout Christian, lifelong reader, and loved to play the piano and organ for her church communities. In her final years at Southwind, she treasured visits from family members, making new friends, playing bingo and cornhole, and watching the Game Show Network.

She married Wyndel Raymond Price on January 24, 1959, in Dumas, Texas. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2022.

Survivors include: one daughter, Beverly Temaat (Ron), Spearville, Kansas; one son, Brent Price (Jody), Ponca City, Oklahoma; four granddaughters, Stephanie Temaat, Denver, Colorado, Courtney Eldridge (Taylor), Wichita, Kansas, Rebecca Miller (Grant), Shawnee, Kansas, and Brittney Price, Wichita, Kansas; five great-grandchildren, Reese, Caio, Henry, Graham, and one on the way; one sister, Elaine Feese (Charlie), Olathe, Kansas; one brother, Leo Tilson (Hilda), Hackett, Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Pat Tilson, Whitney, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Lonnie Tilson, Finas Tilson, and Joe Tilson; and one sister-in-law, Nell Tilson.

Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors in Borger, Texas. Brien Mackenzie Brenner passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on April 5th, 2025, in Manhattan, KS. At 28 years old, Brien left us suddenly and far too soon, leaving his family and friends feeling unimaginable pain and loss. Brien was a loving husband, soon-to-be father, and a cherished son and brother. He left a lasting impact on all who knew him, making any moment spent with him unforgettable. He was truly one of a kind. If Brien’s life were measured only in time, it would be too short, but when measured in memorable moments, laughter, and love, the magnitude of his life is immeasurable.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Brien was the beloved son of Mark Brenner and Jenni Shost. His grandparents, Redgy Nail, Tena Brenner, and Verland Brenner preceded him in death. He is survived by his grandmother, Amy Nail; his parents, Mark Brenner and Jenni Shost and her husband, Andrew Shost; his siblings, Blake, Bradlee, and Baileigh Brenner; a host of extended family and in-laws; and his beloved wife, Chesalai Brenner, and unborn child, Beatrice Mackenzie Brenner (expected August of 2025). Each family member carries a piece of Brien’s heart and many memories that will forever resonate within them.

Brien was born and raised in Manhattan, KS. He always loved Manhattan, and it was truly his home. This was largely due to his memorable childhood. Whether it was sneaking down to play late-night video games with his brother Blake, riding bikes around town with Baileigh and Bradlee, sledding close to home, or swimming in the pool, Brien had many fond memories of fun times. He has always loved Christmas and all the family traditions, like watching “A Christmas Story” and looking at the multicolored angel Christmas tree topper.

Brien met the love of his life, Chesalai, at church when she and her family moved to Manhattan, KS, in 2014. They quickly developed feelings for one another, and in 2017, Chesalai decided she was tired of waiting on him and finally decided to say, “So, are we doing this or what?” From there, they started dating and soon fell in love and knew they wanted to spend their lives together. On January 8th, 2020, Brien and Chesalai were married in a beautiful oceanside ceremony in St. Petersburg, Florida. Brien was a devoted husband, always caring for Chesalai in any way she needed and working hard to support their future family and life together. It was so important to him that she was cared for and happy. Their five years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, friendship, and an unbreakable bond. They were a testament to the beauty of a committed and dedicated marriage, always seeking to love and understand each other better. Brien and Chesalai found out they were expecting in November 2024, and Brien could not have been more excited to be a father. Ever since Brien was a little boy, he wanted to be a dad.

Brien’s intelligence and talent shined throughout his academic and professional career. Brien graduated from Manhattan High School in 2015 and continued his education at MATC and JCCC before enrolling at Kansas State University, where he pursued a Bachelor’s in Secondary Education. His passion for teaching and working with children was evident during his time as a student teacher at Clay Center High School. His students loved him dearly. Brien’s mother recognized his heart for children at an early age and this heart influenced him throughout his life.

Brien was also employed at Success Vision, where he eagerly anticipated a promotion to general manager, a testament to his hard work, skill, and perseverance. Most importantly Brien was excited by the opportunity to provide for his growing young family.

Brien was a faithful Manhattan First Assembly of God church member since childhood. At the age of 19, his faith became his own when he decided to give up the things holding him back in favor of a life lived as a true representation of God’s love and sacrifice; someone he felt would be worthy of his future wife. In recent years, he was an indispensable volunteer in Manhattan First Kids preschool classes, and his boundless energy and hilarity made him a favorite of many of the kids. His faith was a guiding light in his life and was visible in his selfless service to others.

A funeral service will be held in Brien’s honor on April 14th, 2025, at 10:30 am at the Manhattan First Aseembly of God, 2310 Candlewood in Manhattan. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Brien’s life, share stories, and support one another in this time of grief.

Brien Mackenzie Brenner

Darwin Dale “Louie” Diehl, 87, of Alma, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday (April 9, 2025) at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Born June 27, 1937 in Alma, Kansas, Darwin was the son of George W. and Nina Cathleen (Lewis) Diehl. He married Joyce Elaine (Stuewe) Reavis on March 18, 1977 in Alma. She survives.

Growing up, Darwin was active with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was a 1956 graduate of Alma High School. Darwin then joined the U. S. Army Reserves which he proudly served until 1963. In 2016 he went on an Honor Flight which was a highlight for him.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Alma and the American Legion Post No. 32 in Alma. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed traveling, taking trips to Europe, Canada, Alaska and the Caribbean. He traveled to 47 states and especially enjoyed his yearly trips to Branson. More recently, Darwin enjoyed word search puzzles.

Darwin had been employed for 24 years with the Alma Farmers Union Co-op Elevator. He later worked at K-Mart in Topeka and then as a groundskeeper with Kansas State University for 10 years until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; a daughter, Amy Summervill (Tim) of Marion, KS; a step daughter, Lesa Dierking (Bruce) of Marysville, KS; three grandchildren, Allison Dierking, Shelby Summervill and Trent Summervill; a brother, Frank Diehl (Shelley) of Lawrence, KS; two sisters, Glenda Lee (Terry) of Las Vegas, NV and Diana Trudo (Chris) of Wamego, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George W. Diehl Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Vona Diehl.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning (April 16, 2025) at 10:30 at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma with the Rev. Robert Grimm officiating. Burial with Military Honors by the United States Army Funeral Honors Detail and the Alma American Legion Post No. 32 will be in the Alma City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening (April 15, 2025) from 6:00 to 7:30 at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma.

In 2016 he went on an Honor Flight which was a highlight for him.He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Alma and the American Legion Post No. 32 in Alma. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed traveling, taking trips to Europe, Canada, Alaska and the Caribbean. He traveled to 47 states and especially enjoyed his yearly trips to Branson. More recently, Darwin enjoyed word search puzzles.Darwin had been employed for 24 years with the Alma Farmers Union Co-op Elevator. He later worked at K-Mart in Topeka and then as a groundskeeper with Kansas State University for 10 years until his retirement.Survivors include his wife, Joyce; a daughter, Amy Summervill (Tim) of Marion, KS; a step daughter, Lesa Dierking (Bruce) of Marysville, KS; three grandchildren, Allison Dierking, Shelby Summervill and Trent Summervill; a brother, Frank Diehl (Shelley) of Lawrence, KS; two sisters, Glenda Lee (Terry) of Las Vegas, NV and Diana Trudo (Chris) of Wamego, KS; and several nieces and nephews.Darwin was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George W. Cremation will take place. A graveside service with full military honors will take place 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2025 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery.

Jim was born May 2, 1943, in Villa Ridge, Illinois the son of Henry and Addie (Mae) Bettes Norris.

Jim served nearly twenty three years in the United States Army until his retirement. He served two tours in Vietnam. After his retirement, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona. He worked the Phoenix Transit driving a bus. He later moved back to Junction City and worked for the City of Junction City in the waste water division.

Jim loved to walk. He enjoyed taking trips to the casino. He liked traveling and exploring new places. He enjoyed being with family.

On September 16, 1974, he married Gwen Armstrong in Cairo, Illinois.

Judith Keala Awana Cline, 89, of Milford, Kansas, passed away on April 5, 2025, at Stormont-Vail Healthcare, in Topeka, Kansas.

She was born on August 31, 1935, to James Makia Awana and Christine Ah Heong Chun in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Judith worked as a Nurses Aid at St. Alexis Catholic Hospital in Bismark, North Dakota, before moving to Fort Riley, Kansas in 1974. In Kansas she worked as a Nutritionist for the Kansas State University Extension Office, then worked as a Realtor for Century 21 until she retired.

On May 7, 1956, she married Roger Harold Cline on Oahu, Hawaii. She and Roger, because of military orders, moved from Hawaii to Germany, then to Fort Lewis, Washington, then back to Germany. While Roger was in Vietnam, Judith and their sons lived in Washington State. Upon Roger’s return from Vietnam, the family moved to Bismarck, North Dakota, before moving to Fort Riley, Kansas. Judith and Roger lived in Milford, Kansas since 1978.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Fort Riley.

Judith is survived by her loving sons, Roger (Lydia) Jr., James (Bada), and Russell. Seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brothers Benjamin and Leo, sister Sandra, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, sisters Josephine, Joanne, Joyce, Winona, and brothers, Rodney, James, and Lawrence.

Warren enlisted in the United States Army on February 15, 1964 and voluntarily served two terms in Vietnam. He traveled the world and ultimately settled with his family in Junction City, KS. Warren is preceded in death by his mother, father, and his beloved wife Kum.

&nbsp; Pauline dedicated her life to caring for her home while supporting her husband, Nate Hernandez Jr., who served in the Air Force for 20 years. The couple shared a loving partnership for 68 years before Nate's passing in 2022.

&nbsp; She and Nate enjoyed spending their time supporting the VFW Post 9174 in San Antonio, Texas, and traveling by bus to nearby states on casino trips.

&nbsp; Pauline is survived by her nephew and caregivers Rev. June was born December 7, 1926 in Maximo, Ohio the daughter of Clyde Clarence and Loretta Elizabeth (Weber) Erisey.

June moved to Junction City in 1971. Her husband Harvey "Mac" was stationed at Fort Riley. June worked for the Geary County Health Department. She was catholic and attended St. Xavier Catholic Church. June enjoyed gardening and playing the piano.

On June 7, 1952, she married Harvey Charles "Mac" McCready. He died April 28, 1986.

Tiahna (Tia) Javon James

David Patrick “Pat” Butler, 77, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born on November 15, 1947, and raised in Downey, California. Since 2021, Pat had been a resident at Meadowlark Hills, where he received compassionate care.

Pat was the son of George and Bertha (Birch) Butler. In 1973, he married Jean Butler, and together they raised two children in Wamego, Kansas. After their divorce in 1999,he returned to California, where he spent several years working as a handyman and enjoying his love of surfing.

A dedicated firefighter, Pat served for 18 ½ years with the Fort Riley Fire Department, ending his career as a Captain. He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Wamego Fire Department, where he became a certified rescue diver. In addition to his firefighting career, Pat worked as a used car salesman, a salesman at KAWQ Radio Station, owned a lumber yard for a short period, and was involved in construction.

Pat proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His exposure to Agent Orange during his service contributed to his later struggles with Parkinson’s disease. As his condition progressed, he moved back to Kansas to be near his daughter.

Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community and its Parkinson’s Program provided him with exceptional care and support. One of his favorite activities was the Speedy PD, a race benefiting the Parkinson’s Program. He also enjoyed bus trips with Brennan, counting the bumps along the way and convincing her to take trips to Wamego. At Meadowlark, he took great pride in managing “his staff”, always offering guidance and loving every minute of it.

Pat is survived by his daughter, Stacie Eichem (Paul) of Wamego; his son, Benjamin Butler (Patricia) of Vienna, Austria; four grandchildren, Cambrey Eichem of Manhattan, Josh Eichem of Overland Park, Jake Eichem (Paige) of Wamego, and Oskar Butler-Tschen of Vienna, Austria; a great-granddaughter; his brother, Jim Butler (Betsy) of The Villages, Florida; and his dear friend, Julie Hale and her two children, of California.

Cremation arrangements are under the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. As per Pat’s wishes, no traditional service will be held; instead, a private gathering will take place at a later date.

David Patrick “Pat” Butler, 77, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born on November 15, 1947, and raised in Downey, California. Since 2021, Pat had been a resident at Meadowlark Hills, where he received compassionate care.Pat was the son of George and Bertha (Birch) Butler. In 1973, he married Jean Butler, and together they raised two children in Wamego, Kansas. After their divorce in 1999,he returned to California, where he spent several years working as a handyman and enjoying his love of surfing.A dedicated firefighter, Pat served for 18 ½ years with the Fort Riley Fire Department, ending his career as a Captain. He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Wamego Fire Department, where he became a certified rescue diver. In addition to his firefighting career, Pat worked as a used car salesman, a salesman at KAWQ Radio Station, owned a lumber yard for a short period, and was involved in construction.Pat proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His exposure to Agent Orange during his service contributed to his later struggles with Parkinson’s disease. As his condition progressed, he moved back to Kansas to be near his daughter.Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community and its Parkinson’s Program provided him with exceptional care and support. One of his favorite activities was the Speedy PD, a race benefiting the Parkinson’s Program. He also enjoyed bus trips with Brennan, counting the bumps along the way and convincing her to take trips to Wamego. At Meadowlark, he took great pride in managing “his staff”, always offering guidance and loving every minute of it.Pat is survived by his daughter, Stacie Eichem (Paul) of Wamego; his son, Benjamin Butler (Patricia) of Vienna, Austria; four grandchildren, Cambrey Eichem of Manhattan, Josh Eichem of Overland Park, Jake Eichem (Paige) of Wamego, and Oskar Butler-Tschen of Vienna, Austria; a great-granddaughter; his brother, Jim Butler (Betsy) of The Villages, Florida; and his dear friend, Julie Hale and her two children, of California.He was preceded in death by his parents.Cremation arrangements are under the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Darrell D. McClain, 84, of Clay Center, Kansas died on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Wakefield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield, Kansas.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center with Reverend Paul Tessaro officiating.

Darrell was born November 21, 1940, in Norton, Kansas the son of Deyo and Velva (Campbell) McClain.

Darrell grew up on a farm. Growing up on a farm, he learned the value of hard work. During that time, he learned many trades. The trades he learned helped shape the rest of his life with a good work ethic. His main vocation was a truck driver. He had the nickname of "Smiley". He was kind to everyone and never met a stranger. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Darrell loved the mountains so much he moved his family to Montana. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, riding in his Jeep on the mountain roads. He enjoyed any type of outdoor adventure and also helped with various forest fires.

On June 4, 1961, he married Bette "Jean" Miller in Norton, Kansas. They were married for sixty four years.

Survivors include his wife Jean of Clay Center, Kansas; one son, Stacey McClain; one daughter, Vicki Score; four grandchildren, Elmer Schulze, Jamie Hoehn, Tiffani Hoehn and Alex McClain; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerald McClain.

&nbsp;Leslie Michelle Silva, 55, a devout Christian of Ogden, Kansas, returned to God on Tuesday (March 4, 2025) at St. Luke Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri after many years fighting illness.

&nbsp; &nbsp;She was born in Farmington, New Mexico on March 8, 1969, to Harvey Dodson and Teresa “Teri” McCabe. On December 21, 2007 Leslie married the love of her life, Margarito Silva in Alma, Kansas. They first met as associates between 1982-1983, when Leslie was around 13 and was hanging out with his younger brothers at the house on Yuma. Their love story began in 2005 and blossomed when Leslie offered comfort and support upon the passing of Margarito’s brother, Adam. They have been inseparable since.

&nbsp; &nbsp;Leslie was a devoted Christian who cherished the teachings of Jesus Christ and took solace in knowing that the Lord was always watching over her and her family. Gifted with an exceptionally nurturing heart, Leslie was passionate about caring for those around her as well as any animal that crossed her path. Leslie especially loved being a grandmother and spending time with her grandchildren. Through all her ailments, she always managed to put her family first. She was an outstanding cook and enjoyed feeding her loved ones. Her Cherry Christmas Cake was a family favorite during the holidays. Leslie left a huge impact on those around her and will be missed by many.

Sam McGowan left us on March 19, 2025 in Manhattan, KS. He was born to Barbara (Waldorf) McGowan and Harold McGowan in Winfield, KS on October 15, 1947.

Sam loved his beer and westerns but more than that he loved his family that he built with Sally McGowan. He worked hard to provide for all the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids that came through their door. Sam took great pride in his home in the country and made it a truly special place for his family and friends. He was a career plumber but in his heart he was a farmer who raised cattle. He will always be remembered as someone that would give the shirt off his back.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sally; three sons, Paul Cassity (Tena) of Hartford, KS, John Cassity (Cindy) of Alma, KS and James Cassity (Karen) of Grayslake, IL; eleven grandchildren, Wyatt Fairchild (Jesse), Maggie Fairchild, Josh Johnson, Cole Cassity (DiShannon), Cord Cassity (Alexus), Nikki Cassity, Dakota Cassity, Alison Cassity (Joe), Emily Cassity, Sadie Cassity and Cade Cassity; and twelve great grandchildren.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; and Mary Elizabeth (Cassity) Fairchild Johnson.

Thomas Wayne Baum of Tecumseh, Nebraska, a lifelong rancher and cowboy, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, in Wamego, Kansas.

He was born on December 6, 1958, in Norfolk, Nebraska, the son of Glen and Mary Lou (Wood) Baum. He was a 1977 graduate of Tecumseh High School.

Tom was a hard worker with a knack for storytelling. His life always revolved around the outdoors. He loved caring for his cattle and riding good horses, and his dog was usually his best friend and sidekick. He enjoyed team roping and fishing. He had his own business for a time, sandblasting and painting oil wells throughout Kansas, then he was a truck driver for a number of years, hauling cattle.

Tom married Mickie Saunders in 1979 and they had three children. He later married Teresa (Young) Wissler in 2016.

Tom is survived by his sons, Shane (Kristen) Baum and Daniel (Lindsey) Baum both of Wamego; his granddaughters Makayla, Chloe, Austyn, Regan, and Madisyn Baum; and his grandsons Brett and Zane Morgan, and Spencer Baum.

He is also survived by his siblings, brother Bill Baum of Tecumseh, brother John Baum and sister-in-law Susan Baum of Tecumseh, and sister Sharon (Galen) Kuska of Exeter, NE; along with many nieces and nephews.

Robert Andrew Prockish, 96, of Wamego, Kansas, died Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was a life-long resident of the community.

&nbsp; Robert was born on July 16, 1928, in Union Township in Pottawatomie County, Kansas, the son of Andrew and Genevieve (Eckart) Prockish Jr. He attended grade school and graduated from Flush High School in 1946.

&nbsp; He married Barbara Lee Nye on January 4, 1950, in Flush, Kansas. They shared over sixty-two years together until her death on November 15, 2012.

&nbsp; Robert worked most of his adult life in the construction business. He was a crane operator for several years and then became a construction supervisor with Bayer Construction. After his retirement, he was a courtesy van driver for Briggs Auto Group in Manhattan until he was 85 years old. He enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, especially Pitch and Pinochle, and playing Wahoo. He also enjoyed camping. He was an active member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Edna Mae Quinton of Junction City, KS was born on March 31, 1926, to Charles Smart and Mary Eliza Gregg in Kingston, Jamaica. She was baptized into the Catholic faith and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. In 1945, she moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico where she met James E Quinton Sr, a career soldier, and spent the next 23 years traveling the world with her family of thirteen children. She made Junction City her home after her travels and became a member of the St. Xavier Parish. 

She was a career civil service employee and retired after working at Irwin Army Hospital. She attended Kansas State University where she majored in Art and later produced many award-winning pieces. She went on to start her own business named “Edna’s Crafts and Things” where she displayed her paintings and ceramic figurines at fairs and events around Kansas. She was a master seamstress and created many majestic dolls and doll clothing, not to mention the many costumes made for her children’s and grandchildren’s theater and dance performances. 

She was a member and past President of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 8773 4th District, a past member of Military Catholic Council of Women (MCCW), member of Business and Professional Women Organization and a member of Saint Xavier Catholic Church. She served as a board member of the Junction City Salvation Army for many years, and she was also a member of Saint Xavier Circle One.

Edna Mae passed away on March 18, 2025, of natural cause at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City, KS. She was surrounded by her family and friends.She is in preceded in death by her mother Mary Eliza Gregg, father Charles Smart, husband James E Quinton Sr, son Desmond E Wilkinson, daughter Shurla A. She made Junction City her home after her travels and became a member of the St. Xavier Parish. She was a career civil service employee and retired after working at Irwin Army Hospital. She attended Kansas State University where she majored in Art and later produced many award-winning pieces. She went on to start her own business named “Edna’s Crafts and Things” where she displayed her paintings and ceramic figurines at fairs and events around Kansas. She was a master seamstress and created many majestic dolls and doll clothing, not to mention the many costumes made for her children’s and grandchildren’s theater and dance performances. She was a member and past President of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 8773 4th District, a past member of Military Catholic Council of Women (MCCW), member of Business and Professional Women Organization and a member of Saint Xavier Catholic Church. She served as a board member of the Junction City Salvation Army for many years, and she was also a member of Saint Xavier Circle One.Edna Mae passed away on March 18, 2025, of natural cause at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City, KS. She was surrounded by her family and friends.She is in preceded in death by her mother Mary Eliza Gregg, father Charles Smart, husband James E Quinton Sr, son Desmond E Wilkinson, daughter Shurla A. Quinton, brother Arthur Powell and four sisters Vera Gregg, Gloria Johnson (Luther), Kathleen Palmer (Noel), Ruby Powell (Anderson), granddaughter Crystal Newton, and grandson Geoffrey Quinton.Surviving family left to treasure and uphold her legacy include her children Lloyd E Quinton of Junction City, James E Quinton Jr (Gladys) of San Jose, CA, Gene B Quinton(Donna) of Charleston, SC, Antonio R Quinton(Renee) of Atlanta, GA, Beverly M Quinton of Junction City, KS, Lorraine V. Quinton of Junction City, KS, Claude M Quinton of Gainesville, FL, Andre C Quinton of West Palm Beach, FL, Monique T Quinton of Lawrence, KS, Raymond F Quinton(Claudia) of Portland, OR , and Yvonne A Cole(Fred) of Jacksonville, FL.Her surviving grandchildren include Nicole Desouza, Doris Morgan, Donna Morgan, Desmond Wilkinson Jr, Lloyd Quinton Jr, Demetrius Quinton, Jermaine Quinton, Angela Quinton, Doniqua Quinton, Alexander Quinton, Alleyn Quinton, Charles Quinton, Verna Corbin, Heather Farquharson, Dominique Farquharson, Claudette Young, Keana Quinton, Carissa Quinton, Emily Smith, Benjamin Quinton, Andre Quinton Jr, Zachary Zinsli, Bernard Howard III, Emilia Quinton, Elan Quinton, Anthony Quinton, Sapphire Griffin, Brandon Quinton, Maurice Quinton, Erica Quinton, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.The Quinton family wishes to express their heart-felt appreciation and gratitude to all of her many friends, and caregivers for their many years of unwavering dedicated support and care.A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Johnson &amp; Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Junction City.
