Steven Joseph Schuler, also known as “Luke” by many, age 72, resident of Chapman, Kansas passed away on June 25, 2026 at the hospital in Junction City. He was born the second child of eight to Andrew J. Schuler, Jr. and Rose Anna (McLaughlin) Schuler. Steve graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1971. Immediately following high school, he attended Kansas State University in the College of Agriculture and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He worked for several years building grain bins across the country as co-owner of Blackhawk Inc. He then decided to change his path, returning to Kansas State University graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Science degree. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, a professional organization for educators and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

After graduating, he taught 4th grade at Chapman Elementary for 4 years in a classroom adjacent to his wife Sally’s second grade classroom. During this time, Steve became more interested in the use of technology in the classroom. He continued to expand his knowledge of Apple Macintosh products through hours of study and hard work, which led him to become the Computer Technology Director for Chapman USD #473 and Abilene USD #435 districts. He was dedicated to his job, and as technology continued to expand, it created an opportunity for Steve’s position to focus his energy solely on Chapman schools, a position he held for the next 21 years. He was an officer and board member of the Mid-America Association for Computers in Education (MACE) for over two decades.

Steve showed the same dedication and support in his personal life. He was a devoted and caring companion to the love of his life, his wife, Sally, for almost 48 years. They were united in marriage on October 28, 1978. They loved cruising and were avid K-State fans attending sporting events together.

Steve had a great sense of humor, always sharing a witty comment or unexpected gesture to bring a smile to others. He had a creative spirt. He loved music, videography and photography, woodworking, golf, and cooking along with many other interests.

Friends and family were very important to Steve. He and Sally were always willing to open their home for large family gatherings. He cared deeply about the history of the Chapman area and legacy of the Schuler family and Fairview Angus Farm. He was a collector of many artifacts.

Steve is survived by his wife, Sally (Turek) Schuler of the home. Siblings: Andrew J. Schuler, III (Daretia) of San Antonio, TX; Kent Schuler (Mary) of Centennial, CO; Janice Stover (Tad) of Arkansas City, KS; Julie Katz (Jeff) of Durham, NC; Joan Schuler of Manhattan, KS and Charlene Nichols (Greg Weisenborn) of Hays, KS; sister-in-law, Karen Schuler; brother in-law, Frank Henry; brother in-law Steve Turek (Diane) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Rose Anna Schuler, his sister, Sharon Henry, brother, Mark Schuler, and nephew, Frankie Henry.

Memorials may be made to Phi Delta Theta Fraternity – Kansas Gamma Chapter or a donation in Steve’s name to the charity of your choice, or the Chapman Area Preservation Society (CAPS).
