George Timothy “Tim” Gorman, 69, died suddenly at his home April 24, 2021, in Manhattan. Tim was born November 19, 1951, in Fort Lee, Virginia, to Edward T. Gorman II and Sylvia “Boots” Randolph Mallory. After his father’s death, Sylvia married Charles Kearby, while in the military he got transferred to Fort Riley, Kansas, where Tim started going to grade school at Theodore Roosevelt where he met his wife Nancy Repp in 4th grade, and they later married at the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, on March 7, 1970. Tim loved life, and lived it his way. He played cookie, biscuit league baseball and American Legion baseball in which he was chosen to play on the All-Star team for Legion baseball. After baseball, Tim continued to play softball starting out on a church team until Ralph Currie asked if he would play for Kite’s softball, and after Kite’s he was on the Mel’s Tavern team. He worked for Chappell’s Dairy/ Highland Dairy. While at the dairy Tim and his brother Phil went into business together having the Rathskellar Bar. Tim later went into business as a Little Debbie distributor which he sold and then took a few years off before driving the ATA Bus until 2018, when he retired. Tim enjoyed hunting, fishing and having family and friends around. His favorite holiday was Christmas with family and seeing friends. Tim was preceded in death by his father, Edward T. Gorman II, Charles Kearby, and mother Sylvia “Boots” Kearby; and by two brothers: Edward T. Gorman III, and Philip Randolph Gorman. Tim leaves behind his wife Nancy; one daughter, Kristi M. She worked as a supply clerk at Geary Community Hospital for many years. Not only was she a professional woman, she was also highly family oriented. She loved cooking for family gatherings. Holidays were made especially wonderful with her lovingly made meals. She loved to spend time with her close friends and family. Above all, she was a caring wife, strong, tough, loving mother, beloved sister and daughter, adoring grandmother, and loyal friend. She will be dearly missed. Marjorie Sanneman, 90, of Clay Center, died April 29, 2021 at Medicalodge in Clay Center.&nbsp; She was born January 15, 1931 in Clay Center, the daughter Albert and Mary (McMahan) Henry.&nbsp; She grew up in Clay County and attended Blaine School and McKinley Middle School.&nbsp; She graduated from CCCHS in 1948.&nbsp; Marjorie married Duane Sanneman on July 30, 1948 and he preceded her in death on March 24, 2007.&nbsp; She worked as a clerk for the ASCS office for several years and farmed with her husband in Clay County until moving into Clay Center in 1996.&nbsp; After moving to town, she babysat and cleaned houses for several people.&nbsp; Marjorie was baptized in the Hebron Reformed Presbyterian Church, a member of the Fact United Methodist Church and the Clay Center United Methodist Church. &nbsp;She is also preceded in death by her parents.

Claude W. Hibbs, age 70, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Tuesday April 27, 2021 at the Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan. He was born on October 19, 1950 in Sharon Springs, Kansas, the son of James and Thelma Hibbs, he was the oldest of their three children. Claude was married and later divorced to Jerry Hedge, to this union was born one son, Jason. Later he married Sallie Hibbs on November 30, 1977. To this union was born one son, Austin. He is survived by his wife Sallie, of the home; his son Jason (Jamie) Hibbs, of Winfield, Kansas, and his son Austin Hibbs, of Manhattan; also, his two sisters, Donna Vincent, of Mounds, Oklahoma and Teresa Maley, of Quinter, Kansas; his grandchildren: Malia Hibbs, Keira Hibbs, Shawn Hibbs, Sarah McKinney, and Norie Hibbs; his nieces, Erin Maley and Hannah Garrett, and his nephews Zachary Vincent, Matthew Vincent, Daniel Vincent, and Travis Maley. He was preceded in death by his parents. Claude attended school in Morland, Kansas, where he graduated in 1968, from his big class of 15 students. Prior to attending college, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He then attended Fort Hays State College and Goodland Vocational College, where he earned his degree in telephone communications. He began working for the United Telephone System in Junction City, Kansas in 1972. He continued to work for the telephone company in Hiawatha, Kansas and in Junction City. He worked mainly in the same building for 44 years and retired in 2014. Claude had a great wit and loved to share new jokes or funny stories with his sons and grandkids. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and making beer and wine. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. As per his wish Claude’s body was cremated. A gathering for his family and friends will be held on Saturday June 5, 2021 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. Lisa C. Mazik-Kovatch, age 54, of St. Mary's, Kansas, formerly of Bridgewater, Connecticut, passed away on Thursday, April 29th in Saint Marys, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lisa was born on December 19, 1966 in New Braunfels, Texas, to her parents Cortney B. Davis and Paul E. Mazik, Jr.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lisa and her parents moved to Connecticut when she was two months old.&nbsp; She was raised and attended schools in Bethel, CT.&nbsp; One of her many talents was horseback riding, first pony clubbing and ultimately competing in the greater New York and New England areas in equestrian events at the Medal-Maclay level.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After high school, Lisa graduated from Ultrasound Diagnostics School in New York as an ultrasound technician, then pursued additional education to specialize in cardiac and vascular ultrasound.&nbsp; She was employed at Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut and with Cardiothoracic Surgeons in New Haven. Connecticut.

After settling in Bridgewater, Connecticut, Lisa devoted her time and energy to making a home for her family.&nbsp; She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, cooking, baking, refinishing antiques, and raising chickens. She was also an avid lover of history. A devoted Catholic, she was active in her church, teaching Catechism and for many years homeschooling her children. Her greatest happiness was being with her family, watching her children grow and prosper.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lisa and family moved to Saint Mary's, Kansas in 2010. She was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer in October 2018, and while enduring ongoing medical and surgical procedures, Lisa continued to make her children a priority and provide them a stable home. When she was still in recovery, Lisa began painting "barn quilts"―hers is listed on the Flint Hills Quilt Trail. Lisa overcame any setbacks in her life with grace and determination, always adapting her talents to life's circumstances.&nbsp; Her greatest joy was raising her four children.&nbsp; She attended St. John Vianney Church in Maple Hill, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lisa will be remembered for her love for her children and family, for the welcoming haven of her home, her intellectual curiosity, her quick sense of humor, and for her ability to live with bravery, faith, and purpose.&nbsp; She has been taken from us too soon; she will be deeply missed but forever cherished by her children, her mother and step-father, her brothers and sisters-in-law, her nieces and all those whose lives she has touched.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lisa C. Mazik-Kovatch

Bob's life began on November 5, 1926, in Kansas City, KS.  He was the son of Lawrence Ray and Mary Evangeline (Blankenship) Lamb.  Bob is a graduate of Leon High School and the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science.  After high school, Bob served his country in the United States Army during World War II.  He was united in marriage to the former Clial Mae Doornbos in El Dorado on March 11, 1948.  Bob and Mae were the longtime proprietors of the Lamb Funeral Home in Whitewater.  Prior to coming to Whitewater and purchasing the funeral home from the Smith family, Bob worked for Kirby Funeral Home in El Dorado.  Bob and Mae expanded the funeral home to include a new chapel. Through the years, the couple also operated a furniture store, a gift shop that included an old-fashioned soda fountain.   He was also employed by the U.S. Post Service in Whitewater for 20 years. 

 Bob was a long-time member of the Whitewater Federated Church, Gideon's International, the Whitewater Lion's Club, the American Legion for more than 70 years, the Masons, Eastern Star, and also served on the Remington School Board for many years.  Bob and Mae were instrumental with other community leaders in establishing the Wheat State Manor Nursing Home and engaged in countless community efforts to better Whitewater. 

 His loving family includes his children Robert (Judy) Lamb II of Halstead, Val (Denette) Lamb of Hutchison, and Beth (John) Reinhart of Olathe; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; sister Helen Kiser of Whitewater and brother Jack Lamb of Nickerson.  Bob passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Wheat State Manor.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mae, and brothers Don, Lee, and Lawrence.

  Friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, May 2 from 2-5 p.m. and Monday, May 3&nbsp; from 9- 10 a.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home. Bob’s funeral service will be on Monday at 10 a.m. led by Pastor Jason Lowery of the Federated Church.  Bob will be laid to rest with military honors at Sunset Lawn Cemetery, El Dorado.  Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to Wheat State Manor in care of the funeral home.&nbsp;

Bob's life began on November 5, 1926, in Kansas City, KS. He was the son of Lawrence Ray and Mary Evangeline (Blankenship) Lamb. Bob is a graduate of Leon High School and the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science. After high school, Bob served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to the former Clial Mae Doornbos in El Dorado on March 11, 1948. Bob and Mae were the longtime proprietors of the Lamb Funeral Home in Whitewater. Prior to coming to Whitewater and purchasing the funeral home from the Smith family, Bob worked for Kirby Funeral Home in El Dorado. Bob and Mae expanded the funeral home to include a new chapel. Through the years, the couple also operated a furniture store, a gift shop that included an old-fashioned soda fountain. He was also employed by the U.S. Post Service in Whitewater for 20 years. Bob was a long-time member of the Whitewater Federated Church, Gideon's International, the Whitewater Lion's Club, the American Legion for more than 70 years, the Masons, Eastern Star, and also served on the Remington School Board for many years. Bob and Mae were instrumental with other community leaders in establishing the Wheat State Manor Nursing Home and engaged in countless community efforts to better Whitewater. His loving family includes his children Robert (Judy) Lamb II of Halstead, Val (Denette) Lamb of Hutchison, and Beth (John) Reinhart of Olathe; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; sister Helen Kiser of Whitewater and brother Jack Lamb of Nickerson. Bob passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Wheat State Manor. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mae, and brothers Don, Lee, and Lawrence. Friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, May 2 from 2-5 p.m. and Monday, May 3&nbsp; from 9- 10 a.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home. Bob’s funeral service will be on Monday at 10 a.m. led by Pastor Jason Lowery of the Federated Church. Bob will be laid to rest with military honors at Sunset Lawn Cemetery, El Dorado. Roween Ruth Runnalls, age 96 died at Memorial Hospital in Abilene, KS on April 27, 2021. She was born December 25, 1924 to John and Margaret (Bletscher) Sheedy in Clay County, Kansas. Roween grew up in the Industry area.&nbsp; She took teacher training during high school to work as a teacher.&nbsp; She worked for 3 years at Blackhill School and 1 year at Longford.&nbsp; She graduated from Longford High School as the Valedictorian of her class in 1942.&nbsp; Roween married John Runnalls on May 31, 1946 and he preceded her in death on July 16, 2014.&nbsp; She waitressed at the Coachlight Restaurant for several years until she was 75.&nbsp;

Roween loved ceramics, gardening, reading and quilting.&nbsp; She was also a seamstress and a great cook. &nbsp;She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and taught Sunday School for many years.

Retired&nbsp;SFC&nbsp; (Retired) Dan Edmond Graves, 75 passed away on Tuesday, April 13th at 6:40 p.m. at the Winfield Kansas Veteran's Home after suffering from Parkinson's disease for about the last five years. Cremation has taken place, but internment with military honors will take place on Thursday, April 29th at 1 p.m. at the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery&nbsp; in Manhattan, Kansas located at 5181 Wildcat Creek Road.&nbsp;

He was a Junction City (Fort Riley) resident from 1978. Dan was born on November 7th, 1945 in Yawn District, Covington, Mississippi to William and Ruby Graves. After they split, William married Willie Mae Lott and Ruby married Jim Reynolds. He is preceded in death by all four of his parents and his older brother Robert (Bobby), but survived by his step brother, Richard Reynolds of Pass Christian, Mississippi. Dan married Mary E. Slifer on January 15th, 1967 after meeting at Keesler Air Force Base and they were divorced in October 1991 after having two children together, Dan II and Kensera. Dan II has four children, Scott Winter of Jackson, Michigan, Dan III and Kenneth Graves of Newton, Kansas and Amanda Fielder of Junction City, Kansas. The four great grandchildren are Braxton, Braylen, Brycen and Everleigh.&nbsp;

He had three other marriages lasting less than five years a piece that produced no children. The wives names were Penny Murphy, Michelle Loureiro and Suzy Comet.

After once serving as the opening act for Buddy Holly, Dan enlisted in the Army straight out of school where he served as a Ranger and door gunner in Vietnam. He returned to the States as an air traffic controller and achieved a life long dream by earning his private pilots license while stationed in Germany. Dan went on to use those piloting skills to ferry around Conway Twitty and Dolly Parton when his schedule permitted for about a year while stationed in North Carolina. Dan retired in 1985 and began teaching flight simulation at DASI, then opened DOT Computers which he operated while using his multiple PhD's to teach various computer courses at the Manhattan KState campus and aviation at the Salina KState campus. Dan was also an avid CB &amp; Ham radio operator (N0DOT), owned a Karaoke bar in Memphis, Tennesse, was a commercial aviation instructor instructor, freelance computer contractor and enjoyed technology and flight in any and all forms. Except for hot air balloons and shuttlecraft, if it got off of the ground, he could and did fly it.

Here's hoping that he's enjoying his final flight as he was dearly loved and will forever be missed. He may have been agnostic, but was saved.&nbsp;

After the internment, his daughter, Kensera will be in the back room at IHOP located at 321 East Ash Street in Junction City from 3-5&nbsp; p.m. on Thursday, April 29th. Ronald “Ron” James Oliva, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 in San Antonio, TX. He was born September 25, 1950 to Peggy Ann Lyons Potts and Harry James Oliva in Sulphur, Louisiana.

Ron attended Sulphur High School where he played the trumpet in the high school band. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and retired as an officer after 24-years of service. After his AF Space Command career, he worked nearly another ten years as a CPA in San Antonio.&nbsp; Ron was devout with his Christian faith.&nbsp; He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father Harry James Oliva; uncle, Ted Lyons; and brother-in-law, Kirkwood S. Hawthorne. Ron is survived by his wife, Cynthia Hawthorne Oliva; son, Roland Oliva and wife Lindy of Katy, Texas; daughter, Annie Oliva Rodriguez of Roseville, California; grandsons, Jacob and Jaxson Rodriguez of Roseville, California; sisters, Cindy Wilson and husband Tim of Celina, Texas, Connie S. Garland and husband Bill of Aransas Pass, Texas, and Becky Dethlefs of Comanche, Oklahoma; mother, Peggy A. Potts of Rusk, Texas; and mother-in-law Miriam S. Hawthorne of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family throughout Louisiana and Texas.

Peggy Jean Winkler, age 70 of Topeka, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021 at her residence with her family by her side.

After taking an 18-year spring break, Peggy returned to K-State where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 1990.  She was employed by the State of Kansas, primarily at K-State for 30 years.  She retired in 2009 at which point she joined her husband in their antique business.



Although her family was first and foremost in her life, Peggy had many other interests.  She and Larry shared a great love of K-State sports and attended as many games as possible, including away games and bowl games.  She loved to bake, do crosswords puzzles, play trivia, reading and listening to good music - the late 60’s and 70’s stuff.



She is survived by her husband, Larry Winkler of Topeka; her children, Sarah Rock and husband Jason of Oskaloosa and Nathan Winkler of Topeka; two grandchildren, Tyler and Zariah Winkler of Topeka; one brother, Steve Stalcup of Topeka; one sister, Susan Strunk and husband Dean of Anchorage, Alaska; one sister-in-law, Sue Guzek and husband Fred of Dover and one brother-in-law, Steve Winkler and wife Trish of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Peggy Jean Winkler

Nelda Mae Ralston, daughter of Clarence and Lena (Cockroft) Lanman, was born February 11, 1930 at home in Phillips County Kansas. She went home to be with the Lord at Bryan West Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska on Thursday, April 22, 2021.

Nelda attended grade school at Crystal Creek Country School from 1937- 1944 &nbsp;&nbsp;She lived with her Aunt Gladys and Uncle Charley in Alma, NE. while attending Alma High School and graduated in May of 1948. On June 18, 1948 she married Roger Ralston at Englewood Wesleyan Church, in Phillips County.&nbsp; They were the parents of Ronelle, Lonnie, and Michael.

Nelda and Roger lived in Phillips County after they married, also moving to the Sandhills in 1956, and to Concordia in 1958 where they lived for 14 years.&nbsp; They moved to Clay Center Kansas in 1971 where they lived through their retirement. &nbsp;She and Roger enjoyed traveling and camping until her beloved husband’s untimely passing in 1992.&nbsp;

Nelda was a homemaker and did childcare in her home. She worked many years as a Nurse’s Aide, and then for Wohler’s cleaners in Clay Center.&nbsp; She was active in her church activities and the Home Extension Office club.&nbsp; After retirement, she took many bus trips and enjoyed eating out at local restaurants, and visiting her daughter for two weeks at Christmas time in Phoenix, AZ.&nbsp; Nelda served as an officer and member of the Extension Homemaker’s Unit (EHU) for 14 years, was a faithful Member of Wesleyan Church in Concordia and Clay Center for 45 Years, participated in a Clay Center bowling league for 15 Years, served as Community Mission Director for Wesleyan Women for 8 Years, and volunteered for church youth activities, camp outings, and as a Sunday School teacher. &nbsp;She helped with local fundraising drives.&nbsp; Nelda enjoyed embroidering, knitting, crocheting, and latch hooking gifts for her children and grandbabies.&nbsp; She was a good wife, mother, and “Grandma”.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was always happy to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.&nbsp; In 2015 Nelda moved to a condo at Van Dorn Villa in Lincoln, NE to be closer to her son Mike and his family. She attended Heartland Bible Church in Lincoln and remained in touch with friends and family through email and phone calls.&nbsp; She was an avid list maker, and had a sharp memory for names, dates and details. Her family and her faith were very important to her.&nbsp; She loved the Lord, and His Word. She especially loved singing hymns, always remembering the lyrics, even up to her last day on earth. &nbsp;

Nelda was preceded in death by her husband Roger Ralston and only brother, Kenneth Lanman of Alma, NE. Nelda is survived and was affectionately loved by her three children, 8 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren:

Son Michael Ralston and wife Charlotte of Lincoln, NE and their five grown children: Randy, and wife Julie, children Kayla, Levi, Olivia, Isaac, Lilianna.&nbsp; Alex and his daughter Adalyn.&nbsp; Charles and wife Cheyenne.&nbsp; Peter and wife Abigail, children Riley and Daniel.&nbsp; Micah Ralston, her youngest grandson, all of Lincoln, NE.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 29th, at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral home in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Casket bearers are her grandsons Derek, Randy, Alex, Charles, Peter, Micah, and granddaughters’ husbands Eric and John.&nbsp;

Burial will follow in Greenwood cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas, next to her dear husband of 44 years, until the final Resurrection, but her spirit is with the Lord now and for eternity.

Mary Lou Wilson, 92, of Wamego, Kansas, passed Friday, April 23rd, 2021. She was born November 11, 1928 in Minneapolis, Kansas to Vernon “Biddy" Smith White and Doria (Leonhart) White. Born the only child of dairy farmers, Mary Lou was active in the family business from a young age. When she was 8, her mother secretly taught her how to milk as a Christmas present for her dad. At 13 she would run the Cream Station business by herself.&nbsp;

Beginning high school at Minneapolis High, Mary Lou and her classmates began saving money for senior skip. After four years they took a bus and headed to Denver then north making it all the way to Canada before coming home. Following graduation in 1946, she began attending Emporia State Teachers College, graduating with the qualifications to teach kindergarten.&nbsp;

Though Mary Lou knew her future husband, Dick, prior, they didn't start dating until after high school as she was dating another young man, but Dick would sit behind them at the theater and throw popcorn anytime the young man tried to put his arm around her so she finally went out with him "just to watch a movie in peace". They were engaged when Dick was drafted into the United States Army and were married in the Chapel at Camp Chaffee Arkansas.&nbsp;Dick preceded her in death in March of 2009.

Mary Lou and Dick raised three children together, mainly in Olathe, KS with a few years spent in Ft. Scott. They also helped raise their four grandchildren, Mary Lou worked a variety of jobs after the Cream Station, including kindergarten &amp; preschool teacher, payroll clerk and various other jobs until finally being the helper on her husband's school bus. As lifelong members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mary Lou served in many positions, including secretary, as well as assisting in arranging various holiday celebrations enjoyed by many, including her grandchildren. Mary Lou and Dick ultimately retired to Wamego, Kansas in the early 2000's to be closer to family.&nbsp;

Mary Lou is survived by her daughters Lou Ellen “Elly” Schroeder and Marilyn Wilson, four grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Dick, and oldest daughter Carolyn "Candy" McKay. She is also survived by her two beloved dogs, Tinker and Halo.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held Friday, April, 30th at 10:00 a.m., followed immediately by a celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m. all at the Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow in Wamego City Cemetery with a luncheon for friends and family at the First United Methodist Church in Wamego.&nbsp;Memorials are suggested to the Susan G. James Lee “Jas” Hayes, 86, of Santa Maria, California, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2021, at the home of Mina Yavari, his loving partner for the past 20 years. Two weeks earlier, “Jas” and Mina spent five happy days in Las Vegas doing what he and she loved best, playing poker together.

James Lee Hayes was born on June 19, 1934, the son of Horace and Marietta “Etta” Hayes in Whitewater, Kansas, a small country town of 495 people. Jas loved the outdoors and fishing for bass. He graduated from Whitewater High Class of 1952. After high school, he worked for Beech Aircraft in Wichita and married Edith Hall raising four children, James “Jimmy”, Mark, Renelle and Jennifer. Working by day and studying at night, Jas graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in accounting, and later received his CPA license.

After moving to Southern California in 1975, he settled down in Santa Maria and founded his own CPA accounting firm which he ran successfully for over 35 years before retiring in 2019. A pilot of small planes, he loved flying all over California to explore new places visiting friends and family along the way. His favorite song and motto: “I Did It My Way.” And he did.

Jas is survived by his four children, James “Jimmy”, Mark, Renelle, and Jennifer; four adopted children, Savannah, Christine, Cheyenne, and Cory; seven grandchildren, Alisa, Justin, Benjamin, Dillon, Logan, Diego and Hannah; four great-grandchildren, Landon, Adelyn, Vivian and Victoria; brother, Larry Hayes of Campbell, California and a sister, Pat Hayes of Kechi, Kansas.

Charles life began on December 11, 1934 at Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis, MO.  He was the son of Leland L. and Jane Adelaide (Whiteaker) Loy.  Charles served his country in the United States Air Force from 1954 until 1958 as an Air Policeman.  After the military, he worked as a police officer for Junction City and was a carpenter and painter.  Charles enjoyed visiting with family and friends and good conversations.

   His loving family includes his son Leland (Dana) Loy of Killeen, TX; grandchildren Cody Loy, Jessy Loy, Jessica Mizell, Aaron Wiggins and Cory Wiggins and his sister Jean Jamison of San Antonio, TX.  Charles passed away on April 22, 2021 at Legacy of Herington.  He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kellie Wiggins, grandson Nicholas Searles and an infant twin brother.

  His family will gather with friends on Friday June 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery at Fort Riley for his graveside service. Ginger was born on May 6, 1953, in Junction City, Kansas the daughter of Robert and Margie (Stiers) Clowe.

Ginger attended the Junction City Public Schools in her elementary and secondary schooling. Ginger received multiple degrees from Manhattan Christian College, Kansas State University in Elementary Education, and Kansas State University for her graduate work in Elementary Counseling. Ginger also had her Licensed Professional Counseling (LPC) certification and maintained that well past her decision to retire.

She started her career as a teacher at Franklin Elementary. She also taught at Custer Hill Elementary at Ft. Riley. She began the Elementary Counseling programs at Cheney and Solomon, Kansas.

Ginger married her husband Stuart Workman on August 1, 1981 at the First Christian Church in Junction City, Kansas. Ginger was raised in the First Christian Church.

Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Margie Clowe.

Ginger is survived in the home by her husband Stuart and their three children Derrick Ferris-Workman, Teyah Workman and Cameron Workman.

Other survivors include her brother Kim Clowe and his wife Susan of Mesquite, Texas; one nephew, Jeremy and his wife Adriana and their three sons Miles, Tate and Quinn; one niece Megan Clowe Nasser and her husband Abu.

Ginger will also be remembered by many loving cousins, co-teachers and friends.

Memorial donations are suggested to be given to the Junction City Opera House Foundation. Both Ginger and Stuart were long time supporters of the Junction City Opera House, as were Ginger's parents. Judith Ann “Judy” Davis, age 74, of Manhattan, died on April 23, 2021, from metastatic lung cancer. As was her fervent wish, she died at home in the care of her three children. Judy was born on October 19, 1946, in Frankfort, Kansas, to Franklin F. and Twila Mae (Schreiner) Davis. She graduated from Linn High School in 1963. In 1981 and 1988 respectively, she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Political Science from Kansas State University. Judy was a woman of unquestionable conviction and fierce integrity who desired to live a life of purpose and intent. To that end, she worked in the Office of Student Life from 1992 to 1997, showing dedication, support and concern for the students of Kansas State University in her role as director of the Women’s Center. Most significantly, Judy’s greatest legacy will be her service to vulnerable women and their children as the executive director of The Crisis Center, Inc. Her tenure at The Crisis Center encompassed two time periods, first from 1981 to 1992, and then again from 1997 until the time of her death. In total, Judy devoted nearly 35 years to her life’s calling as an advocate for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. She was loved, admired and respected for her unwavering commitment to increasing awareness, understanding, and compassion for her clients. Judy gave voice to the underrepresented and misrepresented and made a tremendous difference in the Manhattan community. It was her steadfast sense of duty to “the Center” that motivated Judy’s valiant fight to live and continue to work. Her tenacious sense of responsibility to the Center gave her the strength, perseverance and will to battle so long and so hard against the vicious cancer that consumed and ravaged her body. Cancer took her body but it could not diminish her unrelenting spirit. Even as her life waned and she became too weak to walk, drive or open doors, she still continued to go to her office to work. It was difficult for those who loved her to watch her decline and struggle. However, out of respect for her, we tried to help her serve as fully as she possibly could for as long as she possibly could. Judy was deeply grateful for and profoundly humbled by the generous outpouring of financial support given by the citizens of the Manhattan area for The Crisis Center’s new safe house. Although she did not live to see the construction of the new safe house, it comforted her to know that it would be built and serve as a refuge and safe haven for the Center’s clients, thus fulfilling a long-held dream and goal. Judy was a member of the Manhattan First Congregational United Church of Christ. She was an avid cook and gifted baker who took pride and joy in creating delicious food for her family and friends. She mastered many exquisite and delightful dishes over the years, but she will be especially remembered for her scrumptious pies and bread. The times she cherished most were those spent around her dining room table with the people she loved, gathered together to celebrate holidays and birthdays and savor the amazing food she had prepared lovingly by hand. One could call Judy a “food snob” and she rather relished that designation! She also enjoyed a really great glass of red wine or a good cup of black coffee—the stronger and darker the better! Judy was crazy about her loyal little Labradoodle, Bonnie, who was a constant source of comfort, companionship and entertainment for her. Judy was previously married to Terry K. Bokelman, the father of her son and two daughters. Those left to celebrate Judy’s life and mourn her passing are her three children, Leslie (Mick) Smith, Michelle Welliver, and Jonathan Bokelman, all of Manhattan. She is also survived by her aunt Elizabeth (Schreiner) Budenbender of rural Frankfort; brother Walter D. Davis of Warren, Michigan; granddaughter Kelsey Welliver and grandson Zane Smith of Manhattan; niece Laura Alexander of Manhattan and nephew Shawn Alexander of Clay Center. Judy will also be greatly missed by the many individuals to whom she was a mentor, role model and example of humble service. Judy was preceded in death by her parents Franklin and Twila; aunt Evelyne Davis; brother Franklin F. Davis, Jr.; sister Peggy Manges; niece Mary Evelyne Davis; and infant granddaughter Ashley Nichole Welliver. Judith Ann “Judy” Davis, age 74, of Manhattan, died on April 23, 2021, from metastatic lung cancer. As was her fervent wish, she died at home in the care of her three children. Judy was born on October 19, 1946, in Frankfort, Kansas, to Franklin F. and Twila Mae (Schreiner) Davis. She graduated from Linn High School in 1963. In 1981 and 1988 respectively, she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Political Science from Kansas State University. Judy was a woman of unquestionable conviction and fierce integrity who desired to live a life of purpose and intent. To that end, she worked in the Office of Student Life from 1992 to 1997, showing dedication, support and concern for the students of Kansas State University in her role as director of the Women’s Center. Most significantly, Judy’s greatest legacy will be her service to vulnerable women and their children as the executive director of The Crisis Center, Inc. Kerry Foster Lewis, age 71, of Riley, Kansas, died April 20, 2021, at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka. He was born March 10, 1950, in Manhattan, the second child of Paul D. and Lois M. (Graves) Lewis. Kerry attended kindergarten at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. On his 10th birthday, Kerry got his first paying job selling newspapers on the street for the Manhattan Mercury. He attended Monsignor Luckey High School, graduating in 1968. While in high school, Kerry delivered papers for the Kansas City Star, sometimes working two or three hours in the morning before going to school. Upon graduation from high school, Kerry attended Wichita State University for two semesters. After leaving college, he worked in various construction jobs, was a receiving clerk at Derby Food Center at Kansas State University, and also worked for Guerdon Industries mobile home factory. In 1969, Kerry enlisted in the Naval Reserve and began his active duty in November 1970. He served aboard the USS Duluth (LPD-6), and amphibious transport, which made two deployments to Vietnam (March 1971 and May 1972). During the second deployment, while participating in a beach assault of the coast of Quang Tri Province, the Duluth was the target of enemy fire from North Vietnamese shore batteries which earned Kerry and his shipmates a combat action ribbon. Other ports of call visited by the Duluth while Kerry was a crewmember include the Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. After leaving the Navy, Kerry enrolled in the two-year Drafting Technologies course at Manhattan Area Vocational Technical School, graduating in 1975. During his second year at MATVS, Kerry was hired as a drafter at United Telephone Company in Junction City, Kansas. Eventually moving from Drafting to Continuing Property Records, Kerry visited several communities throughout Kansas, as well as Western Nebraska and Southeastern Wyoming, maintaining an inventory of Central Office Equipment and Outside Plant Facilities. After 33 ½ years and two company name changes (U.T.C to Sprint to Embarq) Kerry retired at the end of 2007. Kerry enjoyed several interests, which include photography, collecting, drawing on the computer, writing, and playing the guitar (until diabetic nerve damage in his fingertips forced him to give it up). Kerry was active in the Kansas Authors Club, along with his mother, and had entered several writing contests for which he won awards for poetry and short stories. During his retirement, Kerry was attentive to his mother. He spent every weekend with her, buying her groceries, taking her to the bank and helping her with bills, but mostly, he enjoyed her company. They spent man an afternoon on her front porch, reminiscing about her childhood and places they had lived when Kerry was growing up. For several years he moved in with her and became her primary care giver so that she could stay in the home she had occupied for the last 60 years. Kerry is survived by his mother Lois M. Lewis of Manhattan; three sisters: Gail Burd of Manhattan, Julia Warner (Jeff) of Strong City, KS, and Frances Lucas (Bruce) of Columbus, OH; eight nieces, one nephew, seven grandnieces and seven grandnephews. Kerry was preceded in death by his father Paul D. Lewis in 2005, and by his older brother Warren (Tyker) in 1977. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 26th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Father Kerry Ninemire officiating. Irene May Sharp, age 96 of Clay Center, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021 at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor.

She was born on December 8, 1924 in Idana, the daughter of Henry and Martha (McMahan) Dunn.  She grew up in the Hebron Reformed Presbyterian Church.  Following high school graduation, she taught at Rural School for three years.

On February 2, 1945 in Idana, she married Ernest Elgin Sharp.  He preceded her in death on October 18, 2019.

Irene was a farmer’s wife and drove a school bus for the Riley County School District.  She took care of the bailing and enjoyed working with roses.  She was a member of the Hillside EUB Church until the church closed due to the expansion of Fort Riley, became a charter member of Countryside United Methodist Church and later the Clay Center United Methodist Church.  She was a 4-H leader and a member of UMW and WSCS.

She is survived by five children, Judy Seidel of Berkeley, California, Ivy Osborn and husband Lynn of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri, Gerald Sharp and wife Susan of Clay Center, Mary Jo McFadden and husband Robert of Houston, Texas and Tim Sharp and wife Tammy of Riley; one brother, Ronald Dunn and wife Delores of Clay Center; one sister, Evelyn Otto of Wakefield; ten grandchildren, Julee Breakstone, Valerie Barr, Denise Gooden, Monica Jackson, Dale Sharp, Barry McFadden, Daniel McFadden, Bill Sharp, Jayson Sharp and Becky Chase; eighteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents two brothers, Dale and Jack Dunn and four sisters, Jean Dunn, Betty James, Dorothy Tague and Maxine Greenlee.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the Clay Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Gerald Sharp, Pastor Reuben Langat and Herb Mugler officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Riley Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor and Clay Center United Methodist Church.  Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Joretta Marie Varnadore, 89, of Wamego, Kansas, died Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at the Wamego Good Samaritan Society, surrounded by family, holding the hand of her beloved husband of 66 years, Thomas Kenneth Varnadore. She was a life-long resident of the area.

Joretta was born December 11, 1931, near Westmoreland, Kansas, the daughter of Maurice and Rosella Lauer Bennett. She attended Adams Peak School and then in 1944, moved with her family to Wamego. She graduated from St. Bernard’s Grade School in 1945 and Wamego High School in 1949.

Joretta and Thomas were married on April 30, 1955, in Wamego. He survives at their home.

Joretta worked for a short time as a waitress at a local restaurant and many years raising and repotting plants at Harmony Gardens Nursery. She was an active member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. She did volunteer work for St. Bernard's church and school and served as a Eucharistic Minister for the church and also at the nursing home, hospital and for people who were homebound. Joretta was a Cub Scout den mother and a homemaker. In her later years, she and Tom enjoyed going to the Casino.

Joretta is survived by her sons; Richard Varnadore (Cindy), Wamego, and Brian Varnadore (Heather), Alma; her grandchildren, Rolland Varnadore (Kira), St. George, Keegan Varnadore (Kara), Maize, and Averil Varnadore, Alma; her great-grandchildren, Landon and Breyleigh; and her brother, Don Bennett (Ann), Wamego. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Wayne Bennett (Betty) and Rita Dornbusch (Harold).

Joan Luvern Manor, 74, of Wamego, formerly of Udall, Kansas died Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, following a battle with cancer. Joan was born on November 11, 1946, in Udall, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph F. and Susie Luvern Ketterman Shoemaker. She attended schools in Udall and graduated from Udall High School. Joan then attended college and ultimately earned her Doctorate Degree in education. Joan was an English and Speech teacher. She taught in several schools in New Mexico and Kansas. She was the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum at the Goddard School District for 25 years. Joan was also an active member of the United Methodist Church in Wamego. She was very involved in many church activities and bible study groups. She enjoyed traveling, visiting several other countries and states, and taking many scenic photographs. She also loved birdwatching and tending her flower and vegetable gardens. Joan married Merril “Max” Manor on April 8, 2017. He survives at their home. Joan Luvern Manor, 74, of Wamego, formerly of Udall, Kansas died Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, following a battle with cancer. Joan was born on November 11, 1946, in Udall, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph F. and Susie Luvern Ketterman Shoemaker. She attended schools in Udall and graduated from Udall High School. Joan then attended college and ultimately earned her Doctorate Degree in education. Joan was an English and Speech teacher. She taught in several schools in New Mexico and Kansas. She was the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum at the Goddard School District for 25 years. Joan was also an active member of the United Methodist Church in Wamego. She was very involved in many church activities and bible study groups. She enjoyed traveling, visiting several other countries and states, and taking many scenic photographs. She also loved birdwatching and tending her flower and vegetable gardens. Joan married Merril “Max” Manor on April 8, 2017. He survives at their home. Joan Luvern Manor

Dick's life began on October 1, 1935, in Leavenworth, KS.  He was the son of Joseph and Erma P. (Hawes) Schwartz.  Dick was a 1953 graduate of Leavenworth High School, where he excelled in athletics.  He went onto Ottawa University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree and earned athletic letters in football, basketball, and track, and was inducted into the Ottawa Hall of Fame.  Dick completed his formal education by earning his Masters in Business degree from the University of Southern California. He was united in marriage to Margie Bernhardt on August 9, 1959, in Marion.

  Dick began his military career in 1954 by serving in the United States Coast Guard and served his country later in the United States Marine Corps until his retirement as a Colonel in 1989. While in the Marine Corps, Dick served in Vietnam as an infantry company commander and earned several commendations.  He represented the Marine Corps in the All Service and national AAU track meets where he set a Marine Corps record personal best discus throw breaking the record of Olympian Bob Mathias. He later used those skills to coach the Marion High School discus throwers and sent two athletes to the state competition.  After retirement, Dick moved to Florida working with veterans effected by the Dow Chemical Co. "Agent Orange".  He was a humanitarian at heart, whether it was making sure those less fortunate had food on a holiday or giving away clothing to strangers, Dick was always thinking of his fellow man.  He was responsible for a local food drive during the Vietnam War asking for commodities from the community to feed to the children in Vietnam that he encountered.  Dick was a member of the American Legion, Veteran's of Foreign Wars, the Kiwanis, and Eastmoor United Methodist Church. He loved to golf, travel, and enjoyed driving his 1966 Mustang.

  His greatest joy was his family which includes his wife Margie Schwartz of Marion; children Thane (Judy) Schwartz of Marion, and Peri (Ray) Griffith of Chesapeake, VA.; grandchildren Landon (Stephanie) Schwartz, Bronson Schwartz, Richard (Kylie) Griffith, Ben (Ashley) Griffith and Daniel Griffith; and great-grandchildren Josslyn, Adeline, Easton,  Conley, and Ransom.

  Dick passed away on April 20, 2021, at St. Luke's Living Center in Marion.  He is preceded in death by his parents, and 12 siblings.

  His family will gather with friends on Friday, April 30th from 6-8 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion.  A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion led by Pastor Darren Frazier and supported by the Marine Corps Reserve unit from Wichita.  Dick will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. with full military honors.
