Patricia Lynn Cornett age 61 died, February 27, 2021 in Minneapolis, Kansas. She was born in Garnett, Kansas to Sondra Bandy on April 7, 1959. Patricia was raised by her mother and stepfather Sam Rookstool in the Clay Center and Riley, KS communities and attended Prairie View School.&nbsp; She worked for El Dorado National for many years.&nbsp; Patricia enjoyed spending time with her family and was a great cook.&nbsp; In her free time, she loved to watch Bradley Cooper movies and shop for purses and shoes with her daughter.&nbsp; Patricia attended the Clay Center Wesleyan Church.&nbsp; She was preceded in death; sister, Claudia Greathouse; brothers, Jim Cornett and Shane Rookstool.

George was born on February 1, 1952, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to James and Rosalee (Dupire) Helterbrand. At the young age of 17, he joined the United States Army and served honorably for over 30 yrs. He was stationed in many places both domestic and abroad. As a young man, he met Deborah Mae Starr, and they married on July 25, 1972. They ultimately settled in Junction City, KS after his retirement where they raised their small family.&nbsp; During his honorable service, he earned many awards and decorations that include but are not limited to: The Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (w/ 3 oak leaf clusters), Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (w/ 1 silver and 2 bronze oak leaf clusters), National Defense Service Medal (w/ 2 stars), Armed Forces Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (w/ 1 star), Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon (w/ Numeral 4), Overseas Service Ribbon, Driver/ Mechanic Badge, and Expert Marksman Badge . Clayton E. Karst, 95, died February 26, 2021, at Country Place Senior
 Living, Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born March 9, 1925, in Galatia, 
Kansas, the son of Edd and Charlotte (Dumler) Karst.&nbsp; Clayton was a 1943
 graduate of Hoisington High School. A WWII veteran, Clayton served in 
the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal, and was stationed in 
Hawaii from 1943 to 1946.

Clayton worked for the family business, Karst Motor Company for 16 
years and later as a counterman for Big A Auto Parts retiring in 1987. 
He was a longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where he served on
 the council and helped in the maintance of the church in many aspects.&nbsp;
 He was a former commander of &nbsp;the Hoisington American Legion Post #286 
and a lifetime member of the Russell V.F.W. #6240, participating in the 
honor guard for many years.

On June 2, 1946, he married Hilda E. Herbel in Hoisington.&nbsp; She 
preceded him in death on July 19, 1993.&nbsp; He then married Helen E. Miller
 on September 28, 1996, in Hoisington.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on 
December 21, 2009.

He is survived by two daughters; Janice Terry and husband David of 
Overland Park, and Susan LaFaver of Greeley, Colorado; sister, Pauline 
Ray of Junction City; and two grandchildren, Amy La Faver of Venice, 
Florida and Angela Walts of Odessa, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives; brother, Paul Karst, and a sister, Isabelle Dumler.

Visitation will be Sunday 1 to 6 p.m., and Monday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Emmanuel Lutheran 
Church, Hoisington, with Reverend Wayne Baldyga presiding. Burial will 
follow at Hoisington Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the 
United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Emmanuel

Lorine Kay Woodworth, age 67 of Manhattan, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

She was born on October 29, 1953 in Manhattan, the daughter of Edward Sylvester and Thelma (McCarty) Allen.

On April 4, 1970 she married Danny Woodworth.  He survives of the home.

Lorine worked for Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company, retiring in 2014.  Following her retirement she worked as a Para in local schools, most recently at Bergman Elementary.  She loved all of her grandchildren and enjoyed visiting the mountains in Colorado and working in her yard and garden.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Brian Woodworth and wife Heather of Riley and Lorie Massey and husband Allen of Manhattan; three siblings, Cindy Jordan and husband Ernest of Florida, Annette Bullard and husband Ray of Riley and Eddie Allen and wife Wanda of Riley; four grandchildren, Kyla, Jaiden, Miah and Eva and two great grandchildren, Liam and CeCe.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Laura Michelle Woodworth.

Cremation is planned and a private family inurnment will be held in the Grandview-Mill Creek Cemetery.

A registry book will be available to sign at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home starting on Wednesday, February 24, 2020 through Friday, February 26, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

&nbsp;Vaughna Lee Gibson, age 57 of Riley, departed this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

She was born on March 24, 1963 in Smith Center, the daughter of Willie Otis and Donna Lee (Davis) Gibson.

Vaughna was a daycare provider and a “jack of all trades”.  She was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church and was their event hostess.  She was known for being creative and a determined, generous person who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Thelma “TJ” Jane Cameron gained her Heavenly Wings February 17th&nbsp;2021 in Clay Center, Kansas

TJ was born in the small town of Bunker Hill Indiana on March 19th&nbsp;1931 to Harold and Leah (Downs) Wagner.

TJ was born right in the middle of the Great Depression. She was the middle (and only girl) child. She had two brothers Eugene and Chuck. She was a Daddy’s girl and thought the sun rose and set on him. When she was sixteen she married Lovell Horn and together they had four children. She stayed busy working as a waitress, seamstress and activities leader. She helped coach her daughter’s softball team and was a leader for Brownies Troup and Cub Scouts. After 23 years of marriage TJ and Lovell parted ways. She later moved to Kansas to be with her daughter. She was very active in her church life and loved her Lord and Savior. &nbsp;She worked in Manhattan at Campbell’s (a fine collections store) and the Manhattan Library. She really enjoyed both of these jobs as it kept her involved with people. She retired and moved to Clay Center where she met the love of her life Leonard Cameron. They were able to adventure this life together for ten years.

TJ was preceded in death by her youngest daughter Renee Lynn, her only son Rex Lovell and her husband Leonard. Surviving family are:

Thelma “TJ” Jane Cameron

Laura E. (Speer) Varney was born on August 16, 1933, at a farm home near Clearwater, Kansas. She died on February 24, 2021, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, at the age of 87. Her parents were Wendell and Rae Speer of Clearwater, KS. Despite the hard work and chores, Laura enjoyed her life on the farm. She was active in 4-H for many years. She attended a one-room school house for grades 1-3, but then transferred to the Clearwater school system. In the 5th grade, she was asked to play in the Clearwater High School marching band for two reasons: she was quite tall for her age and was already a very proficient clarinet player. In high school, she won many Kansas state music contests on the clarinet. She was the Valedictorian of her 1951 high school graduating class. At Kansas State College, she was treasurer of her sorority (Pi Beta Phi), a judge on the College Student Tribunal, and a member of the K-State marching and symphonic band. She graduated in July 1954, after only three years and one summer of collegiate study. Laura met her husband, Bill, in the K-State Band (they both played clarinet). They married on August 15, 1954. He was called to active duty in the U.S. Air Force in September 1954, to serve in French Morocco. Laura joined him several months later, and they lived in Rabat, Morocco for two years during which the country gained its independence and their first child, Susan, was born. They returned to the U.S. in the fall of 1956 and lived in Salina, KS, for three years. In 1959, they moved to Manhattan and she helped Bill establish a local CPA practice. In the early 1970’s Laura attended graduate classes at K-State and earned her master’s degree in Clothing and Textiles. Shortly thereafter, she commenced teaching at K-State and taking more classes. In 1981, she earned her PhD degree and was the second student to earn a doctorate degree from the KSU College of Health and Human Services. Laura retired from teaching at K-State, but kept quite busy in forming a business corporation with her oldest son, Doug, called Clothing Design Concepts. Laura had designed “Perfect Fit” BASIC PATTERNS FOR WOMEN and Doug programmed a computer/plotter to draw individual patterns. They sold customized sewing patterns for women worldwide who had a hard time finding ones that fit. Laura served for many years as the alumnus financial advisor and as an officer of the House Corporation for the local chapter of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, a Deacon, and one of the first elected female Elders. She also was the head of the church’s food pantry at one time. Laura was quite active in the local Girl Scouts organization. She was not only a leader of a group of girls but also was in charge of the Girl Scout Little House and all cookie sales in the Manhattan area one year. Laura served on the Board of Directors, as Treasurer, and as President of the Flint Hills Breadbasket. Laura is survived by her husband Bill of the home; her four children: Susan Koester of Concord, CA, Doug Varney and his wife Daryl of Naperville, IL, John Varney and his wife Namhan Le of Issaquah, WA, and Heather Gritton and her husband Joe of Manhattan; seven grandchildren: Laurel Koester, Kathy Wester (Brian), Jeanine Varney, Robert Varney, Kim Varney (Noah), Cole and Casey Gritton; and three great-grandchildren: Jackson, Travis and Daisy Wester. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: Dorcas Severance, Klonda Speer and Edward Speer. Cremation is planned with a private family service. Laura E. (Speer) Varney was born on August 16, 1933, at a farm home near Clearwater, Kansas. She died on February 24, 2021, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, at the age of 87. Her parents were Wendell and Rae Speer of Clearwater, KS. Despite the hard work and chores, Laura enjoyed her life on the farm. She was active in 4-H for many years. She attended a one-room school house for grades 1-3, but then transferred to the Clearwater school system. In the 5th grade, she was asked to play in the Clearwater High School marching band for two reasons: she was quite tall for her age and was already a very proficient clarinet player. In high school, she won many Kansas state music contests on the clarinet. She was the Valedictorian of her 1951 high school graduating class. At Kansas State College, she was treasurer of her sorority (Pi Beta Phi), a judge on the College Student Tribunal, and a member of the K-State marching and symphonic band. She graduated in July 1954, after only three years and one summer of collegiate study. Laura met her husband, Bill, in the K-State Band (they both played clarinet). They married on August 15, 1954. He was called to active duty in the U.S. Air Force in September 1954, to serve in French Morocco. Laura joined him several months later, and they lived in Rabat, Morocco for two years during which the country gained its independence and their first child, Susan, was born. They returned to the U.S. in the fall of 1956 and lived in Salina, KS, for three years. In 1959, they moved to Manhattan and she helped Bill establish a local CPA practice. In the early 1970’s Laura attended graduate classes at K-State and earned her master’s degree in Clothing and Textiles. Shortly thereafter, she commenced teaching at K-State and taking more classes. In 1981, she earned her PhD degree and was the second student to earn a doctorate degree from the KSU College of Health and Human Services. Laura retired from teaching at K-State, but kept quite busy in forming a business corporation with her oldest son, Doug, called Clothing Design Concepts. Laura had designed “Perfect Fit” BASIC PATTERNS FOR WOMEN and Doug programmed a computer/plotter to draw individual patterns. They sold customized sewing patterns for women worldwide who had a hard time finding ones that fit. Fred Williams passed away peacefully on January 19, 2021, after a long battle with cancer and recent complications from COVID-19. He was a warrior until the end. Fred grew up in Kansas and was a proud alumnus of Kansas State University; however, Columbia, South Carolina, was considered home. Fred loved to travel and had a passion for volunteering and charity work throughout the community. He never met a stranger and dedicated thousands of selfless service hours with his trademark smile. He genuinely engaged with every person he met, asking thoughtful questions and making you feel like the most important person in the room. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Thelma Williams; sister, Patricia “Pat” Zarger, and brother, Roland “Rod” Williams. He will be placed Friday February 26, 2021, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd., Manhattan, KS. He was born on March 25, 1949, in Orlando, Florida, to Will M. Jr. and Janet Maxine (Hedrick) Wiggins. As a young man, he joined the United States Army May 22, 1969. He served in many places both domestic and abroad. While stationed in Germany, He met a young lady named Rosemarie Viehmann. On October 10, 1969 they married in Bad Nauheim, Germany. They traveled to many places with Will’s military obligation, until they ultimately settled in Junction City, Kansas in 1987. During his honorable time in service, he earned many honors and decoration that include but are not limited to: the Army Service Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (1), Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Driver Badge, Overseas Service Ribbon (1), Army Achievement Medal, Sharpshooter (M-16 Rifle &amp; Hand Grenade). Tom grew up in Miltonvale and graduated from Miltonvale High School in 1958.&nbsp; He attended Miltonvale Wesleyan College and Brown-Mackie College in Salina.&nbsp; Tom married Ruth Whitney on June 5, 1962.&nbsp; He farmed his entire life in the Miltonvale area.&nbsp; He also worked at Hutchinson Manufacturing, Miltonvale COOP, Miltonvale Lumber and did custom harvesting in Kansas and Oklahoma. &nbsp;Tom was a member of the Miltonvale United Methodist Church, Young Farmers and volunteered for the Miltonvale Rural Fire Department.&nbsp; He was also an avid trap shooter.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by parents and grandson, Luke Smith.

Verna Marie Fortner, 78 of Junction City, Kansas, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 at her daughters home in Stoutsville, Missouri. She was born February 24, 1942 in Damar, Kansas the daughter of Dolphas L. and Clara E. LaBarge Senesac. Verna was born and raised in Damar, Kansas and was a graduate of Damar High School. She married George William Fortner on April 12, 1969 and he preceded her in death February 25, 2008. They made their home in Junction City, Kansas where they raised their family. In 2019 Verna moved to Stoutsville, Missouri to live with her daughter due to health concerns. She was a member of the Saint Xavier Catholic Church, Junction City, Kansas, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. Verna was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Junction City. She loved to play volleyball and played until she was 55 years old. She also was an avid Kansas Jayhawk fan and a Kansas City Chiefs football fan. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed going fishing. Most of all she enjoyed being around her family especially her grandchildren who she loved very much. She is survived by five daughters, Becky Buckman (Dan) of Stoutsville, Missouri, Tammy Humbard (Mike King) of Waldorf, Maryland, Paula Miller (Wava) of Junction City, Kansas, Trina Fortner of Junction City, Kansas and Antoniette "Dee Dee" (Mike) Goodman of Overland Park, Kansas. She was born February 24, 1942 in Damar, Kansas the daughter of Dolphas L. and Clara E. LaBarge Senesac. Verna was born and raised in Damar, Kansas and was a graduate of Damar High School. She married George William Fortner on April 12, 1969 and he preceded her in death February 25, 2008. They made their home in Junction City, Kansas where they raised their family. In 2019 Verna moved to Stoutsville, Missouri to live with her daughter due to health concerns. She was a member of the Saint Xavier Catholic Church, Junction City, Kansas, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. Verna was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Junction City. She loved to play volleyball and played until she was 55 years old. She also was an avid Kansas Jayhawk fan and a Kansas City Chiefs football fan. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed going fishing. Most of all she enjoyed being around her family especially her grandchildren who she loved very much. She is survived by five daughters, Becky Buckman (Dan) of Stoutsville, Missouri, Tammy Humbard (Mike King) of Waldorf, Maryland, Paula Miller (Wava) of Junction City, Kansas, Trina Fortner of Junction City, Kansas and Antoniette "Dee Dee" (Mike) Goodman of Overland Park, Kansas. Two sons Larry Fortner (Tara) of Monroe City and Eric Fortner (Cheryl) of Maryland. Four sisters Greta Graf of Damar, Kansas, Wilma Hollerich of Tipton, Kansas, Norma Brungardt of Ellis, Kansas and Kathy Freuenkron of Wichita, Kansas. 22 grandchildren Sheena Williams, Stevie Lee, Shane Powell, Shawn Powell Whitney Bichsel, Stephanie McNabb, Ashley Dean, Chance Humbard, Mercedes Fortner, Lauren Fortner, Riley Fortner, Corey Alvarez, Chad Alvarez, Cody Alvarez, Audrey Fortner. Lawson Langford, Kailey Woody, EJ Fortner Esme Fortner, Nova Fortner, Ella Goodman and Madison Goodman. 20 great grandchildren, Raina, Tristan, Emma, Samuel, Carson, Lana, Jovey, Brody, Kaiden, Bryce, Talan, Benson, Ean, Ryann, Olivia, Noah, Christopher, Cheyenne, Brinley and baby girl Alvarez in the near future. One daughter in law Stacie Nachtman. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Mike Nachtman, four brothers Carl, Lester, Eldo, and Ronnie Senesac, two sisters Doris and Phylis Senesac. Dorothy LeClair Friesen Bauer died peacefully on February 22, 2021. She was born in Salina, Kansas on October 17, 1922, to Frank and Emma LeClair. She was the youngest of 10 children, and the only one to graduate from high school. She received a scholarship to Marymount College in Salina, where she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Business in 1944. After graduation, she started her teaching career in Lebanon, Kansas, teaching high school business courses. There she met and married Eric Friesen, who had been hired as a math teacher after he had returned from service in World War II. They soon began a family and Dorothy paused her teaching in 1946.

In 1957, the family, which had grown to four children, moved to Clay Center, Kansas. In 1961, Dorothy returned to teaching, this time in elementary grades — initially at two-room country schools and later teaching first grade “in town,” retiring in 1983. She taught over 500 students in Clay County during those years and was recognized as a Master Teacher by the State of Kansas.

After retiring, she and Eric continued their love of traveling until his death in 1993. They shared many adventures traveling throughout the United States, with National Forest campgrounds in Colorado among their favorite destinations. In her retirement years, she played bridge regularly. She renewed her interest in painting, something she had done throughout her life. She started working with watercolor. One of her favorite subjects was painting pictures of many homes in Clay Center. She started another creative hobby as well — quilting. She made numerous beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren. She was especially proud of one she made for herself that won a ribbon at the county fair. Dorothy volunteered for many worthy causes throughout her life, including as Girl Scout troop leader, and for the American Cancer Society. She was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Clay Center, Kansas.

In 1997, she married Gail Bauer, whose family welcomed her lovingly. With Gail, she traveled to Europe, Australia, and Hawaii. A lifelong learner, Dorothy was always in the front of the tour group at museums and churches, wanting to know just why that stained glass window was so special.&nbsp;

Dorothy, whose name means “gift of God,” truly was just that. She had friends too numerous to count, and always made time to visit them and give them something to smile about. You could always expect you would get a warm hug from her.

Dorothy was never afraid to start a new chapter. After Gail died in December 2013, she moved to Louisville, Kentucky, to be near two of her daughters and their families. She lived at the Treyton Oak Towers senior living facility, where she was on the Residents’ Council; she participated in morning exercise class almost every day. She made many new friends there, and was able to be spend time with family, including two of her four children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren— all of whom live in Louisville. She also found a new church home in Louisville attending Highland Presbyterian Church — she rarely missed Sunday services.

She is preceded in death by her first husband Eric J. Friesen (1993), and her second husband Gail Bauer (2013); as well as her parents and her nine siblings. She is survived by her children: Larry Friesen (Martha) of League City, Texas; Linda Mailen (Gary) of Olathe, Kansas; Laura Rothstein (Mark) of Louisville; Leslie Friesen (Steven Spalding) of Louisville; her grandchildren Kristopher Mailen (Stephanie); Jeremy Mailen; Julia Irzyk (Bryan); Lisa Goldberg (Matt); Andrew Spalding, and Claire Spalding; and her great-grandchildren Reagan Mailen, Aquila Mailen, Juliana Mailen, Rachel Goldberg, and Molly Goldberg. She always appreciated the love and devotion of Gail’s children and their families: Diana and Bob Williams; Bruce and Faun Bauer; Brian Bauer and Bobbi Patterson; and Pera Jo and Tom Rockefeller. Their children and grandchildren were part of her extended family and very special to her.

She appreciated the wonderful friendships she was able to form at Treyton Oaks Towers, including residents as well as many staff members with whom she formed close bonds during her nearly seven years in Louisville.

&nbsp;Steven Edward Ferguson, 81 of Abilene passed away February 21, 2021 at Salina Regional Hospital in Salina. He was born December 27, 1939 in Longford, Kansas the son of Guy and Garnett (Oard) Ferguson. Steve attended the local schools around Dickinson county and graduated from Abilene High School in 1958. On June 13, 1965 he was united in marriage to Sandra Shivers. To this union four children were born, Diane, Deon, Dana and Dawn. They later divorced. In 1976 he married Susan Swisher. She survives of the home. Steve worked at various jobs including Safeway, Abilene Lockers, Civil Services at Ft. Riley, Jerry’s IGA and West IGA, retiring in 2005.

Steven is survived by his wife Susan of the home. Children, Diane Ferguson of Louisburg, Kansas; Deon Vanoni (Jason) of Keller, Texas; Dana Ferguson (Christine) of Independence, Missouri; and Dawn Moore of Blue Springs, Missouri. Two step-children, Brian Machal (Jennifer) of Kansas City, Kansas and Kim Wood of St. Joe, Missouri. Fifteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one sister, Pat Boyd (Rod). He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Vearl Ferguson.

Marylin Miller, 96, of Wamego, Kansas, died Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Stormont-Vail Health Center in Topeka. She was a long-time resident of the community.

Marylin was born on December 16, 1924, near Raymore, Missouri, the daughter of Earl L. and Laura Twente Barr. She attended grade school and in 1942 graduated from Raymore High School.

Marylin married Charles Vernon Miller on December 17, 1942, in Raymore. Together they operated the family farm south of Lawrence for many years. Charles preceded Marylin in death on November 2, 1992.

Marylin was an active partner in the farming operation. She not only cared for her home and her family, but milked cows, did chores and drove the tractor. In 1990, they moved to Wamego to be closer to family.

She loved to read, work her garden and take long walks. She was a member of the Lawrence African Violet Club and the Wamego United Methodist Church and the Wamego Library Book Club. Marylin was a regular donor at the Red Cross blood drives.

Marylin is survived by her sons; Jim Miller and Carl Miller (Connie), both of Alma, son-in-law Darold Brunkow; her grandchildren, Glenn Brunkow (Jennifer), Wamego, Andrea Marquis (Scott), Topeka, Andy Miller, Pensacola, Florida, Curtis Miller (Aledya), Tulsa, Oklahoma, Alex Miller (Leah), Reading, and Steve Miller (Lindsey), Wamego; her great-grandchildren, Isaac, Tatum, Joanna, Cade, Nathan, Owen, and Luke; and her sister, Elaine Espino, Cuernavaca, Mexico. Marylin was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Janis Brunkow, and her brothers, Olin and Richard Barr.

Muhlig Sr, 81, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away on February 20, 2021 at his home.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bob was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 22, 1939 to Joseph and Marie Muhlig.&nbsp;&nbsp;He lived in the Chicago area until joining the US Army in 1958, serving until 1964.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, where he met his wife, Judith Catlin.&nbsp;&nbsp;They celebrated their 60th&nbsp;wedding anniversary on June 3, 2020.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bob and Judy had three children:&nbsp;&nbsp;Bob Jr, Jennifer and Ryan. Dispite growing up in the city, Bob was known as an avid outdoorsman. He excelled at hunting, archery and fishing with his two sons.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bob was a proud firefighter and crew chief, retiring from the Fort Riley Fire Department in 1989.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a lover of animals, especially dogs.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his son Bob Jr, brother Billy and his favorite dog, Dee.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bob is survived by his wife Judy; daughter Jennifer (Travis) of Council Grove and son Ryan of Augusta, KS; grandsons: Matthew Gordon (Kayla) of Oakley, Brett Muhlig of Herington, Garrett Gordon of Council Grove; granddaughter Madelyn Muhlig of Augusta; great-granddaughter Winnie Gordon of Oakley; sister Mary Rollins of New Lenox, IL;&nbsp;&nbsp;many nieces, nephews and dear friends.&nbsp;

SSG (Ret) Martin I. Schwartz, 54, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Geary Community Hospital. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. A visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. the evening before at Johnson Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service. A graveside inurnment service with military honors will take place at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at a later date. Martin was born on March 25th, 1966 to Paula (Sodilsky) and Samuel Schwartz in Augusta, Georgia. Martin was raised in a military family with two older brothers; Norman and Seth. The Schwartz family moved around as any military family does and in 1985, Martin graduated high school from London Central High School in Wycombe, England. Following graduation, Martin enlisted in the United States Army as an Infantryman. Despite their unlikely meeting, Martin met the love of his life, Lisa, in Junction City, Kansas through a mutual friend. They were married a year later on October 24th, 1992 in Clay Center, Kansas. Martin and Lisa grew as a couple and raised two children; Nikki and Alex. In 2006, after dedicating 21 years of his life to the country he loved, Martin retired from the United States Army as a combat veteran. Following retirement, he continued on his path of serving and protecting by beginning a career in Law Enforcement; first with the Geary County Sheriff’s Department in Junction City, Kansas and then as a Federal Police Officer at the Dept of Veterans Affairs in Augusta, Georgia. Martin medically retired in 2014 following four failed back surgeries, as a result of an injury he sustained while in the Army. Martin enjoyed fishing, gaming, catching up with old buddies, and spending time with family. He loved telling stories and had an infectious belly-laugh that could be heard from across the street. Martin loved his wife dearly and there was no greater pride in his life than his children. To say he will be missed is an understatement. Survivors include his wife Lisa of the home in Junction City, KS; one daughter, Nikki Nolz and her husband Zach of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one son, Alex Schwartz of Junction City, KS; his mother, Paula Schwartz of Augusta, GA; two brothers, Norman Schwartz and his wife Carolyn of Grovetown, GA and Seth Schwartz and his wife Jean of Hephzibah, GA; two brothers-in-law, Gary Robinson and his wife Bev of Scottsdale, AZ and Bill Robinson and his wife Kathy of Clay Center, KS; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, family and military brothers. Helen May (Whitesell) Warnica, born to George H. and Nina S. Lacy Whitesell on Sept. 5, 1928 at Waterville, Kansas, and is one of eight children. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: George Jr., Robert L., Melvin D., and Wayne L.; and her sisters: Jean Fairchild, Marie Davis, and one who died in infancy. Helen attended rural schools in the first two years at Waterville, KS. The family moved to Frankfort in 1936 and she attended 3rd through 8th and went to Frankfort High School. She married John Reich in 1946 to which five children were born—four sons and a daughter: Ron of Manhattan, KS; Terry of Payson, AZ; Tom of Heneryetta, Oklahoma; Jack of Abilene, KS; Anette Wright of Athens, GA. Helen worked as a clerk in a drug store, also as a waitress. After her daughter was born she had an in-home daycare in Manhattan for nine years. She worked at Kohl’s department store and JC Penny’s as a clerk and at the Wonder Bread thrift store in Manhattan. After John passed away in 1976, she moved back to Frankfort in 1978. After moving to Frankfort she had three young sisters in her care for several years. She met her husband Emmett and they married in 1982. They had ten wonderful years together. He went to be with the Lord in April 1992. While in Frankfort, she belonged to the Frankfort United Methodist Church, RSVP for 21 years. She helped with Rotary dinners and funeral dinners. Helen belonged to American Legion Auxiliary 25 years, and Red Hats. She baked pies and goodies for neighbors and friends, and was known in Frankfort as the “Pie Lady.” She sold her home in Frankfort in 2013 and moved to Abilene, KS to be closer to family. Helen has 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, She entered rest Feb. 20, 2021 in Abilene.

 Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the Barrett Cemetery near Frankfort, Kansas with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. Carlene Rae Taylor, 77 passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Village Manor in Abilene. She was born August 20, 1943 in Clay Center, the daughter of Vivian Gebhardt and Wilma Jean Gates. Carlene worked as an antique dealer in the Abilene area.

 Carlene is survived by her daughter, Kristine Kiser of Abilene. Grandson, Aaron Barrett of Lawrence, Kansas, daughter-in-law, Valorie Kiser of Medford, Oklahoma, step-grandsons, Dexter, Dustin and Clay of Medford, Oklahoma and brother-in-law, David Brubaker of Hutchinson, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Taylor, son, Ken Kiser, parents and sisters, Jolene Householder and Goldie Ann Brubaker. 

The family has chosen cremation. No services are planned at this time. A private family burial will take place at a later date. William Morton II (Bill), of Manhattan, KS, passed away on February 18, 2021, at the age of 77. Bill loved his family more than anything. He was a good and kindhearted person. He worked as a custodian for most of his life with USD 383 and then with KSU. Bill enjoyed bowling with a group of friends after his retirement and listening to all his records. He had a great sense of humor and loved to talk politics (if you were in agreement with him). He was a lifetime, Democrat. When Bill found out he had cancer and was told he had 2-4 months to live, his dying wish was to make it to January 20th to see Biden inaugurated, and he got that wish. Bill is survived by his wife of 54 years Connie (Patnode), children Jim Morton, Manhattan, KS, Kendra Sutton, Albuquerque, NM, Bob (Beth) Morton, Grandview, MO, 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sister Coralie Havens, Olympia WA, his best buddy Dan Ridley, and his dogs Hannah and Teddy. William Morton II

Marvin’s life began on December 22, 1940 in Herington.&nbsp; He was the son of Marvin C. and Esther M. (Wendlandt) Obermeyer, Sr.&nbsp; He was a 1959 graduate of Herington High School.&nbsp; Marvin served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 – 1964. He was united in marriage to the former Maureen Hancock on December 6, 1964 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Herington.

Marvin was employed by the Rock Island Railroad and later Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement.&nbsp; He was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church and had a strong faith in God.&nbsp; Marvin enjoyed gardening with Maureen.&nbsp; He was a good cook and enjoyed grilling out.

His greatest joy was his family which includes his children Anita (Jim) Cook of Manhattan, Michael (Dawn) Obermeyer of Wichita, Sharon (Bill) Murphy of Louisburg, and Michelle (Norman Savoy) Obermeyer of Junction City; grandchildren Kody (Kylie) Cook, Konnor Cook, Mackenzie Obermeyer, Madison Obermeyer, Eli Lamberty, Shae Murphy, Aidan Murphy, &nbsp;D’Ahja Savoy, and A’Kylie Savoy; great grandchildren Camden Lamberty and Na’Liyah Savoy; his siblings Dean Obermeyer and Susan Braucher, both of Herington and several nieces and nephews.

Marvin passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday February 19, 2021.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his sister Eileen Obermeyer, his parents, and wife Maureen.&nbsp; His family will gather with friends on Friday, February 26th, from 5-8 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home.&nbsp; Marvin’s funeral will be held on Saturday, February 27th, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.&nbsp; He will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery with military honors.&nbsp; Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to Dickinson County Home Health and Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

He was united in marriage to the former Maureen Hancock on December 6, 1964 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Herington.Marvin was employed by the Rock Island Railroad and later Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement.&nbsp; He was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church and had a strong faith in God.&nbsp; Marvin enjoyed gardening with Maureen.&nbsp; He was a good cook and enjoyed grilling out.His greatest joy was his family which includes his children Anita (Jim) Cook of Manhattan, Michael (Dawn) Obermeyer of Wichita, Sharon (Bill) Murphy of Louisburg, and Michelle (Norman Savoy) Obermeyer of Junction City; grandchildren Kody (Kylie) Cook, Konnor Cook, Mackenzie Obermeyer, Madison Obermeyer, Eli Lamberty, Shae Murphy, Aidan Murphy, &nbsp;D’Ahja Savoy, and A’Kylie Savoy; great grandchildren Camden Lamberty and Na’Liyah Savoy; his siblings Dean Obermeyer and Susan Braucher, both of Herington and several nieces and nephews.Marvin passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday February 19, 2021.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his sister Eileen Obermeyer, his parents, and wife Maureen.&nbsp; His family will gather with friends on Friday, February 26th, from 5-8 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home.&nbsp; Marvin’s funeral will be held on Saturday, February 27th, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.&nbsp; He will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery with military honors.&nbsp; Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to Dickinson County Home Health and Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
