Christy May Druse, 50, born Aug. 18, 1970, passed Sept. 28, 2020. Christy was born on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation in Whiteriver, Ariz., to Henry and Bessey White. Her birth name was Merle Ann White. Christy was born with a host of medical issues and as a result was brought off the reservation and placed in the foster care of Thomas and Claudette Druse.

The Druse family immediately fell in love with her and as a result filed a petition to adopt her. It is a very rare instance for a family not belonging to the tribe to be able to adopt, however with the help of many professional people, the love of the Druse family and the Grace of God, we were blessed by the White family and the White Mountain Apache Tribe with the adoption.

And so Merle Ann White became Christy May Druse. Christy grew up as an Army brat long with her two older brothers Tom and Richard. They moved from Arizona to San Antonio, Texas. Upon Thomas's retirement from the Army in 1977, they moved to Enid, Okla. Christy attended school in Enid and Kremlin, Okla., graduating from Kremlin High School. She took a course at O.T. Autry Vo-Tech in culinary and worked in the foodservice industry ending up at Northern Oklahoma College-Enid campus cafeteria. Christy loved the outdoors and spent many days fishing with her family especially with her dad in their secret spots. 

Christy loved rock music especially the band Kiss and as a result, went to many concerts to include four Kiss concerts with her brother Tom. Christy enjoyed going to the casinos with her family and just overall enjoyed life even towards the end as the medical issues slowed her down. She enjoyed many trips to Arizona to visit her Apache family, most recently with her boyfriend and companion Greg Nusz.

John was born November 4, 1937, in Junction City, KS the son of Edgar W. and Opal (Moyer) Carlyon. He has resided in Geary County his entire life.

John was a farmer and contractor in Geary County for many years. He enjoyed restoring various automobiles, tractors and Indian motorcycles. John enjoyed all of his border collies. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy of the home in Junction City; one son, John S. SFC (RET) Lee F. Berry, 79, of Enterprise, KS, passed away on September 28, 2020. Johnson Funeral Home of Junction City is assisting the family with cremation arrangements. The family will be holding a private Celebration of Life.

Lee was born on March 10, 1941 in Seattle, Washington to Herbert Berry and Neil and Laura (Thompson) Milam. After he graduated high school, he joined the Air Force. He served proudly in the Air Force for four years, before transferring into the Army. In total, he honorably served his country for over 20 years. His time serving in the military took him around the world and he lived in many duty stations both domestic and abroad. During his time in service, he earned many awards and decorations including, but not limited to: National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal 4th Awd, Recruiter Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Air Medal 3 OLC, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/ Palm, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Stars.

After his time in service, he called Enterprise, Kansas his home. Lee possessed great love for handiwork, especially woodworking. It was this passion which ultimately lead him to building the house he and his wife would call home for thirty years.

Though Lee was retired from the armed forces, he did not stop working. He kept busy by working as a machinist for Metal Munchers of Clay Center and ABB of Enterprise. He also was employed by the Abilene Co-Op, as well as many other occupations.

Lee enjoyed volunteering for the City of Enterprise. Amongst his other volunteer efforts, he helped build the new library and fire station, hung decorations for the holidays, and did hours of beautification efforts. He is sorely missed not only by family, but the community as well.

Lee met his wife, Connie in Abilene, Kansas. They were married on July 8, 1994 and had just celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Berry, sons Dennis (Michele) Berry and David Berry, Neil (Jennie) Berry and Deric (Edith) Oakman, and daughters Donna Berry-Molica, Teresa (Jon) Dawson and Angie (James) L’Homme. He had eleven grandchildren and two great granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Carol Clark.

Donald L. Dowdall, 84 of Milford, Kansas passed away on September 25th, 2020 at Via Christi in Manhattan, Kansas with his four daughters by his side. Donald was born June 22nd, 1936 to Lester and Mabel R. (Wells) Dowdall in Junction City, Kansas. He is one of five siblings. Don graduated from Junction City High School in 1955. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in numerous duty stations domestic and abroad to include Korea, Thailand, and 3 tours to Vietnam. He attended and graduated from Saint Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas with a Bachelor's degree in Business Admisistration. He retired from the Army in 1976 with the rank of Master Sergeant, then went to work for the US Postal Service retiring in 1998 as Post Master of the city of Milford, Kansas.

Don married the love of his life Connie Delay on May 18th, 1964. The two had four daughters, Kathy, Cheri, Donna, and Kim.

Don and Connie owned and operated a liquor store in the Eagles building, L &amp; H Trailer Court and later Dowdall Rentals. They also had Connie's Western Wear in Junction City.

Don was an avid hunter and found a life long passion for golf winning numerous tournaments. He also took a part time position at Rolling Meadows Golf Course.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Alice, Marie, and Wayne and his wife Connie that passed in 2018. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter Rachele Bowers Berumen in 2015.

Don is survived by his sister Blanche Hood of Albuquerque, New Mexico, his daughters Kathy (Bill) Jones of Warrenton, MO, Cheri (Don) Robertson of Junction City, Ks , Donna Bates and fiance Chad Quandt of Alta Vista, Ks , Kim (Brian) Moast , Fords, NJ. He is also survived by grandchildren Michelle (Mike) Wachsnicht, Gabriel Berumen, Tonya Goddard, William Stambaugh, Shay Robertson, Brandon Buckner, Brittany (Mark) Clark, Jessica Moast and finace Evan Norwood, Megan Moast, and Kristen Moast. Great-grandchildren Drew, Ben, Gabriella , Ethan, Arturo, Owen, Ayana, Reese and Madeline. He is also survived by his beloved dog Bella.

Don was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be deeply missed.

Dale Harold Stein, 72, passed away peacefully at his home in rural Chapman on September 29, 2020.

He was born August 2, 1948 in Junction City, Ks., the son of Harold and Verna (Senti) Stein. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. October 10, 2020, at the Alida Upland Cooperative Parish Cemetery rural Junction City. Those wishing to attend are suggest to wear masks due to Covid-19. Dale and Gail were married December 18, 1968. Dale lived his entire life in the Upland area where he farmed with his father. He owned and operated Dale Stein Trucking, hauling livestock; worked at Walker Stone’s K-18 plant; worked for several contractors at Fort Riley; USD 473; doing maintenance at Footlocker. Dale used his welding and fabrication skills helping employers, family and friends.

He was a member of the Alida-Upland Cooperative Parish. He also served on the DS&amp;O Rural Electric Board, serving one year as President.

If anyone in Heaven is in need of cheering up, help is on the way.&nbsp; Marjorie Parrish Conklin, of Westmoreland, Kansas, a woman whose positivity infected everyone around her, passed away on September 29, 2020 at the age of 78. She is already missed greatly by her loving family and a legion of supportive friends.

Marjorie was born on April 27, 1942 in Atascadero, California to John Randall Parrish and Isabel Webb Parrish. Marjorie moved frequently with her family during her father’s career as a VA hospital administrator. She graduated from Wichita Southeast High School in 1960 and received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Kansas in 1964.

While in Lawrence, she met the love of her life, Gary F. Conklin, and they married on January 25, 1964 at Danforth Chapel. Marjorie attended the University of Kansas Law School for a brief time before moving to Westmoreland with Gary so he could start a private practice. Marjorie had a short teaching career, before spending many years as the office manager for Gary’s law practice.

Faith was important to Marjorie and she was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church of Westmoreland as well as the United Methodist Women. She lived in Westmoreland, a city she loved deeply, for 55 years and worked countless volunteer hours for many organizations. Among the organizations she was involved with were the Westmoreland Community Service Club, PRIDE, Westmoreland Historical Society, Westy BBQ, and Red Hat Ladies. She also trained as a volunteer firefighter. In 1993, she was named Westmoreland Citizen of the Year. Marjorie was a former Board Member of Wellsprings, as well as a proud resident for the last few years of her life. &nbsp;Marjorie loved spending time with family and the Christmas season was her favorite time of the year. &nbsp;Her family never missed a Christmas together with her in Westmoreland.

Marjorie is survived by a daughter, Kellie White and her husband Dennis Fitzpatrick, of St. Louis, Missouri; a son, Cory Conklin and his wife Kay, of Kansas City, Missouri; her sister, Jannis Parrish, of Counce, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Julia White and Beck Fitzpatrick, and five nieces and nephews (Kathie, Marsha, Gil, David Randall, and Mike). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gary Conklin, brother-in-law, Dr. Gilbert Parrish, and niece, Debbie.

So, when it is your turn to arrive at the Pearly Gates, listen for lots of laughter and encouragement. Marjorie should be at the center.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, October 2, 2020, at the Westmoreland City Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 precautions, a church service will be held at a later date. Patricia A. Fudge, 66, of Junction City, KS, formerly of IL, was reunited with God surrounded by her loving family on September 26, 2020. Johnson Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.

Jerry was born on March 18, 1933, in Waldron, Kansas, to Ralph and Ada (Froggatte) Cope. As a young man he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served for ten years. He married Doris Trobough on December 24, 1954 in Ottawa, Kansas. After his honorable service, Jerry moved his family to Kansas. Together they made Junction City, Kansas their home where Doris and he co-owned and operated J.D. Cope Heating and Air Conditioning Business. Doris later passed away on August 19, 2016.

Jerry's memory lives on through his survivors: his son, Kevin D. Cope of Junction City, KS; his Daughter Diane Cope Zeiger of Junction City, KS; one granddaughter, Jennifer Krinhop of Junction City; three great-grandchildren, Kayla Simpson, Ariana Miera and Julian Williams; one sister, Virginia Griffin of Marble Falls, TX; and a host of loving family and friends.

Michael Oppenlander, 70, of Junction City, KS, passed away September 12, 2020. Johnson Funeral Home of Junction City is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.

Michael was born on October 19, 1949, in Junction City, Kansas, to Ernest and Joyce (Cogdil) Oppenlander. He grew up in the Junction City area and after high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and honorably served for over 7 years. He traveled to many duty stations domestic and abroad, but ultimately came back home to Junction City, Kansas. Michael earned many awards and achievements to include but are not limited to: The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one OLC, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Mast, RVN M.U.C Gallantry Cross Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter, and Good Conduct Medal.

Michael was a private but caring uncle, beloved brother, and loyal friend.

Michael is survived by his loving family: two nieces Christy Lee (Dave Hill) Smelly of Junction City, KS and Kim Christina Tarr; three great-nephews Bruce Shannon Broome Jr., Shannon Michael Smelly Jr., and Brandon Tarr; one great-niece Nikki Tarr; four great-great-nieces Breanna Broome, Madison Broome, Kayden Wilson, and Bellarose Broome; one great-great nephew Owen Broome; and a host of loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers Ernest August Jr., Leland LeRoy, Gary Lee, and Robert Eugene Oppenlander, and his sister Judith Anne Oppenlander, and one great-nephew Bradley Broome.

Richard Dean Roepke, 81, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, September 26, 2020. He was the son of Helen Irene (Eikenhorst) Roepke and Vernon Phillip Roepke and was born October 18, 1938 in Manhattan Kansas. Dick was a lifelong Manhattan resident and graduated from Manhattan High School in 1957. He attended Kansas State University and joined the IBEW Local 226 Apprentice Program to become a licensed electrician. He was the outstanding apprentice for his local and second in the state of Kansas when he completed his apprenticeship. He worked for various building companies until he retired at age 55. Dick spent many years as an active member of the Manhattan Elks Lodge where he was an officer and is a member of American Legion Post 17 in Manhattan.

While attending youth group in seventh grade at First Methodist Church, Dick spotted a young girl that caught his eye. He always told his family that he knew right away that this was the girl that he wanted to marry, and on October 1, 1961, he married Susan Ellen Schrenk. She survives.

Dick and Sue shared a rich and full life together. They were best friends and enjoyed many adventures and in 1998 when Sue retired, they sold all their worldly possessions and embarked on 13 years of living full time in a motorhome and fulfilling a life-long dream of travels returning to Manhattan in 2012. Dick bought his first boat at age eighteen and camping with both families were a part of most weekends. They were avid KSU athletic fans and became season ticket holders in 1968, when the new football stadium was built. They also held season tickets for men’s basketball and spent many happy years attending games. They could often be found attending Manhattan High School sporting events and Dick, along with his brother and father, spent many happy decades bowling on a team together.

Dick never met a stranger and was happiest when hosting gatherings that brought together his friends and family. He had a knack for storytelling and a laugh that filled a room.

Dick is survived by one brother, Duane Eugene Roepke of Casa Grande, AZ, and two sisters, Marilyn Glee (Roepke) Davidson of Westminster CO and Patricia Sue (Roepke) Pruett of Topeka, KS, along with two nephews and six nieces and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.

Leo Dwight Burgman, age 95 of Leonardville, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on July 30, 1925, the son of Oscar Emanuel and Anna Edna (Daniels) Burgman.  He graduated from Randolph High School and then served in the United States Coast Guard.  Leo had the distinct honor in 2018 to travel to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight #63 from Kansas.

On September 3, 1951, he married Rose Marie Esslinger.  She preceded him in death in 2003.  He later married Bonita Leah Sprecker on August 28, 2005.  She preceded him in death in 2015.

Leo was a farmer and loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events.  He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Leonardville Lions Club and was a former board member of the Leonardville City Library.  He coached and umpired softball games, enjoyed gardening and watching KU sports and the Kansas City Royals.

He is survived by two sons, John Burgman and Sandra of San Antonio, Texas and David Burgman and Jane of Leonardville; three daughters, Janet Munoz &amp; Steve of Topeka, Shirley Vandahl and Vernon of Manhattan and Teresa Hopper and Garth of Leonardville; three sisters, Judy Springer of Hanover, Sharon Harding of Leonardville and Sandra Rightmeier of Randolph; nine grandchildren, Jenny Racette (Brian), Matt Vandahl, Heather Poore (Craig), Amber Hopper, Kenny Hopper (Audrianna), Jada Burgman, Brock Burgman, Derek Burgman and Brandon Burgman and four great grandchildren, Tyler Racette, Zac Racette, Addison Poore and Zane Poore.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Burgman, Harold “Sprug” Burgman and Val “Ferd” Burgman and three sisters, Delores Gillespie, JoAnn Fluharty and Shirley Duensing.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2020 at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Don Zimmerman as Celebrant and Fr. Merlin Kiefer as Co-Celebrant.  Respect calls may be made all day Thursday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Lily M. Martin, 91, passed away on September 29, 2020, in Abilene, Kansas. She was born September 24, 1929, in Galena, Kansas, the daughter of G.M. and Rose Sigler Armstrong. She attended the Galena Schools and graduated in 1947, valedictorian of her class. On November 23, 1947, she was married to Paul J. Martin in Galena, Kansas, and they were the parents of a son, Stan, and daughter, Paula. She had been a resident of Abilene since 1948 when she and her husband moved to Abilene where he was employed by the Rasher Funeral Home. In 1958, they purchased the funeral home, and she then became an assistant funeral director for the Martin Funeral Home until retiring in 1988. Always impeccably dressed, it made perfect sense when she opened a women’s clothing store, The Fashionmaker, in 1969, which she operated until her retirement in 1988.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Abilene, Past President of Chapter GY, P.E.O., and Past Matron of Abilene Chapter #111 O.E.S.

She was preceded in death by her son, Stan, in 1999; her parents; and two sisters, Rev. Janet Sevier Gilbreath in 1988 and Marjorie DeSpain in 2005.

She is survived by her husband; her daughter, Paula Martin, and her husband, Kurt Falkenstien, of Lawrence; her daughter-in-law, Victoria Martin, of Longmont, Colorado; four grandchildren, Jack Martin (Sarah) of Seattle, Washington; Ty Martin (Jill) of Longmont, Colorado; Jessica Lindfors (Jordan) of Browns Summit, North Carolina; and Kate Martin Falkenstien (Rich Boltizar) of Boise, Idaho; as well as four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He attended the local school districts and graduated from Chapman High School. He served his country In United States Army.

On July 31, 1953 he was united in marriage to Beverly Chrisco in Enterprise Ks. In 1970 He started his own company call Glen’s Janitorial services owning and operating it for 45 years.

Glen is survived by his loving wife Beverly of the home. Two sons Glenn of Abilene, Vincent of Salina a Nephew Howard and wife Jamie of Abilene. Grandchildren Brandon, Kellen, Rylie all of Salina, Joel of Marion . A Niece Allison Nephews Tracyn and Shane. One brother Larry of Detroit. He was proceeded in death by his parents, siblings: Lyle, Gerald, Treva Schneider, Tyila Tyson, Tracy: Daughter-in-law, Carla and a Niece Tayla Womochil.

Joseph “Joe Bobby” Boller, age 79, passed away on Thursday September 24, 2020 at his daughter’s residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 3, 1941 in Manhattan, Kansas the son of Charles and Ruth (Harold) Boller. He was a tireless worker in the construction field, lastly with Parker Hannifin of Manhattan.

On August 24, 1963, he was united in marriage to Roseann Woodyard in Manhattan. Two children were born to this union: Michael and Cheri. They later divorced, but remained friends.

Joe loved to live life to the fullest and bringing happiness to everyone he encountered. He loved being the center of attention by getting you to laugh hysterically with his stories. He enjoyed traveling, playing games and taking care of his collections. Above all, he loved every minute he was able to spend with his children, grandchildren, great-grandson and all of his family and friends.

Survivors include his son: Michael Boller and his wife Susan of Manhattan and their daughters: Maddie and Hayden Boller; his daughter: Cheri Blaise of St. George and her children: Colton Magnuson and Mickenzie (Jacob) Blaise and great-grandson: Kason Blaise. He is also survived by his loving companion: Irene LaCharite along with many other family and friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday October 2, 2020 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas. Private Graveside Services will be held at a later date in the Sunset Cemetery.

Richard H. Middleton, 63 of Carlton passed away peacefully surrounded by family Thursday, September 24, 2020.

 He was born August 17, 1957 in Plymouth, Indiana, the son of F.L and Eva (Judkins) Middleton. He grew up in the Batesville, Arkansas area, attended the local school where he was a defensive tackle in football and received his GED. He later joined the United States Marine Corp. On October 22, 1988 he was united in marriage to Cindy Hosie in Abilene, Kansas. She survives of the home. Richard was the Senior Pastor at the Calvary Full Gospel Church in Abilene where he pastured for 20 years. He also drove a truck for 18 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending quality time with his family. He loved serving the Lord and being with his church family. His hobby was repairing vehicles. He belonged to The Men of Valor of Navarre, Ks.

 Richard is survived by his loving wife Cindy of 31 years. Daughters: Danielle Middleton (Eddie); Amanda Owens (Bruce); Elizabeth Gentet (Bryan). On September 21, 2020, Marlene Kay Sedillos (Johnson), passed away into God’s grace peacefully at her home in Manhattan. She was the daughter of Aylesworth Clyde Johnson and Evelyn Lorraine Johnson (Kimble), sister of Carolyn Sue Braaten (Johnson), Charlene May Brownson (Johnson), Jimmy John Johnson, and Amy Lorraine Johnson. Marlene was the mother of Phillip James Sedillos and Sandra Kay Sedillos; grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of one.

Marlene had a marriage of 20 years to Raymond Adam Sedillos (deceased).

Along the way she was very accomplished in her educational pursuits, up to and including a doctorate degree in Adult Education from Kansas State. She was passionate about her education, and thrived on helping others in their lives, particularly her family. Marlene worked 13 years at Barton Community College and finished her career at Manhattan Area Technical College, having worked there for 14 years. She instructed students in effective writing and communication skills. In life Marlene touched the lives of all fortunate enough to have met or known her. She will be greatly missed by all. Words can not describe the experiences, efforts, and selflessness of Marlene, God rest her soul.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 until 7:00p.m. Tuesday September 29, 2020 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Ada Belle Herbic, 80, of Alma, Kansas, died Friday, September 25, 2020, at her home. &nbsp;She was a life-long resident of the area.

Belle was born on September 19, 1940, in rural Paxico, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Ella Martens Mathies. &nbsp;She attended local schools and graduated in 1959 from Paxico High School.

For twenty years, Belle owned and operated Herbic Liquor Store in Alma. &nbsp;She also owned, for several years, the Alma Bakery. &nbsp;In her earlier years, she had worked at Alma Cheese, Flint Hills Foods, and the Knotty Pine Cafe.

Belle was an exceptional quilter. &nbsp;She also loved to cook and was known for her pies, and enjoyed making Halloween costumes.

Belle married Vernon Charles Herbic on April 26, 1963, in McFarland in a double wedding with her twin sister, Nelle. &nbsp;He preceded her in death on October 23, 2014.

Belle is survived by her son, Darrin Herbic, of Alma; her sisters, Mary Ashworth, Wamego and Nyla Mathies, Manhattan; her sisters-in-law, Jean Mathies, Joyce Mathies, and brother-in-law, Bob Meseke, all of Alma; and numerous nieces and nephews and many honorary adopted family and friends. &nbsp;She was also preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Leon Mathies, Lola Ringel, Agnes Ringel, Fred Mathies, Mavis Erikson, Donald Mathies, Doris Mathies, and Nelle Meseke.

Mildred Dorothy Kunze, age 88 of Leonardville, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

She was born on December 7, 1931 in Palmer, Kansas, the daughter of Alvin Christopher Carl Killman and Clara Dorothea (Dierking) Killman.  She graduated from Linn High School.

On April 10, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer, she married Val Jene Kunze.  He preceded her in death in 2007.

For nearly 30 years, Mildred was employed by Citizens State/UMB Bank in Manhattan, while simultaneously working as a farm wife and mother.  She worked hard her entire life and one of her favorite sayings to her daughters was “mind over matter.”  She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, playing Scrabble, crossword puzzles, gardening and bird watching.

Despite being diagnosed with ALS in February of this year, Mildred dealt with the effects of the disease with strength and dignity.  While in hospice care the last few months of life, she enjoyed weekend card games with her girls.

She is survived by three daughters, Marlene Kunze Dolan and Frank of Manhattan, Diane Huffman of Olathe and Jill Reynard and Jay of Riley; two grandchildren, Rachael Peterson and Jared Reynard; one brother, Wilbert Killman and Leann of Clay Center; one sister, Lorene Ohlde of Snohomish, Washington and one son-in-law, Jay Peterson of Leonardville.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Kunze Peterson in 2019; a brother, Victor Killman and a sister, Vera Lecuyer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2020 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center with Rev. Paul Tessaro officiating.  Respect calls may be made from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley.  Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Donna Rae (Pettet) Carlson, 85, found peace on September 24, 2020 in Salina, KS.&nbsp; She was born in Clay Center, KS on August 30, 1935 to Claude and Irene (Forslund) Pettet.

Donna is survived by sisters Iris Rouse of Clay Center, Beverly (Rex) Steward of Topeka and Shirley Bristol of Portland, OR.&nbsp; Daughter-in-law Janet Carlson, grandchildren Saralyn Szyndlar and Kyle (Courtney) Carlson, and great-grandchildren Malina and Jakub Szyndlar.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dale Pettet, sister Barbra Michel, son Everell (Rick) Carlson Jr. and infant daughter Christine Marie.

Donna was married to Everell Carlson Sr. in 1953 and later divorced.

She was raised in Clay Center, KS and graduated from Clay Center Community High School.&nbsp; She lived most of her life in Kansas except for the 20 year period she was in Austin, TX to live near her sister, whom she loved to travel with.&nbsp; She returned home to Kansas in 2009.

Donna was an amazing knitter and artist, completing a multitude of paintings and acrylic figurines in her lifetime.&nbsp; She made sure no holiday went by without sending a handmade card to her grandchildren.&nbsp; Her skills in the kitchen kept all visitors well fed, especially with sweets.

Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in her memory, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in her daughter’s memory or the Tammy Walker Cancer Center in her son’s memory.

Kenneth J. Miller 94, passed away September 22, 2020. He was born October 30, 1925 to Gwen H. and Louise M. (Raymond) Miller in Greensburg, KS. He grew up in Minneola and Meade, KS,moving to Greensburg, KS his senior year in High School, graduating in 1943. He was active in the Boy Scouts earning his Eagle Scout aware with two palm branches in 1936. He enlisted in the Marine Corp September 1943 at the age of 17. After High School he was deployed to California where he was a member of the Marine Raiders prior to the group being dismantled during WWII. The members of the Raiders were dispersed to other units and Ken was transferred to the newly formed Co A, 1st Battalion, 28th Marines, 5th Marine Division. He landed on Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945. Ken was wounded March 2, 1945 for which he was awarded the Pearl Heart. He was discharged December 1945 at the rank of Corporal. After discharge from the Marines, he attended Southwestern College in Winfield, KS, where he played football and basketball, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. He earned his Masters Degree in Education in 1971 through Emporia State University.

He married Sally Elliott in 1950 and to this union were born four children: Kenneth Michael, Brenda Jo, Kelly Eugene, and Claudia Rae. He taught Industrial Arts and Drafting at the High School level and was football, basketball, and track coach. During his teaching career, he taught &amp; coached at Coats, Sylvia, Inman, Kingman and finally Solomon, KS. He loved teaching and coaching impacting the lives of many young men and women during his 37 years in education.

Ken married Kaylene Liston Riffel in 1979. After his retirement, they lived in Granby, Co where he built their dream home. He enjoyed the mountains and skiing. They remained in Colorado 21 years, returning to Chapman, KS 11 yrs ago. He is survived by his wife, Kaylene of the home, children, Mike (Carrie) Miller of Hutchinson, KS, Brenda Moorman of Tigard, OR, Kelly (Raylene) Miller of Clearwater, KS, Claudia (Larry) Nelson of New Cambria, KS, step-son, Brian Riffel of Lenexa, KS, nine grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren, his sister, Marty Koch of Dublin, OH, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Sally Walker, parents, and two brothers.

Visitation on Sunday, September 27 at Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene from 9:00 am to 5:00pm. Kenneth J. Miller 94, passed away September 22, 2020. He was born October 30, 1925 to Gwen H. and Louise M. (Raymond) Miller in Greensburg, KS. He grew up in Minneola and Meade, KS,moving to Greensburg, KS his senior year in High School, graduating in 1943. He was active in the Boy Scouts earning his Eagle Scout aware with two palm branches in 1936. He enlisted in the Marine Corp September 1943 at the age of 17. After High School he was deployed to California where he was a member of the Marine Raiders prior to the group being dismantled during WWII. The members of the Raiders were dispersed to other units and Ken was transferred to the newly formed Co A, 1st Battalion, 28th Marines, 5th Marine Division. He landed on Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945. Ken was wounded March 2, 1945 for which he was awarded the Pearl Heart. He was discharged December 1945 at the rank of Corporal. After discharge from the Marines, he attended Southwestern College in Winfield, KS, where he played football and basketball, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. He earned his Masters Degree in Education in 1971 through Emporia State University.He married Sally Elliott in 1950 and to this union were born four children: Kenneth Michael, Brenda Jo, Kelly Eugene, and Claudia Rae. He taught Industrial Arts and Drafting at the High School level and was football, basketball, and track coach. During his teaching career, he taught &amp; coached at Coats, Sylvia, Inman, Kingman and finally Solomon, KS. He loved teaching and coaching impacting the lives of many young men and women during his 37 years in education.Ken married Kaylene Liston Riffel in 1979. After his retirement, they lived in Granby, Co where he built their dream home. He enjoyed the mountains and skiing. They remained in Colorado 21 years, returning to Chapman, KS 11 yrs ago. He is survived by his wife, Kaylene of the home, children, Mike (Carrie) Miller of Hutchinson, KS, Brenda Moorman of Tigard, OR, Kelly (Raylene) Miller of Clearwater, KS, Claudia (Larry) Nelson of New Cambria, KS, step-son, Brian Riffel of Lenexa, KS, nine grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren, his sister, Marty Koch of Dublin, OH, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Sally Walker, parents, and two brothers.Visitation on Sunday, September 27 at Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene from 9:00 am to 5:00pm. Military Graveside services will be Monday, September 28 at 1:00 pm St. John’s Cemetery, Junction City, KS. Memorials may be made to the Dickinson County Home Health &amp; Hospice in lieu of flowers. Pearly’s life began on December 28, 1924, the daughter of Dent and Mary (Sparks) Watson in Mossville, Arkansas. She married Arnold Edgmon on December 22, 1940, also in Mossville. She worked at Dole Packing Plant making the bacon! Pearl enjoyed quilting and was a member of the East Side Christian Union Church in Springdale, Arkansas until moving to Whitewater in 2002.

Her loving family includes her daughter, Bonnie Westerfield (Larry) of Whitewater; brothers, Lonnie Watson, Gary Watson (Janet) all of Springdale, Arkansas; sisters, Gracie Waddell of St. Louis, Missouri, Frieda Howell (Sam) of Wichita, Inavern Kissinger of Conway Springs, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Theresa Toews (Jeff) of Whitewater, Pam Edgmon of Wichita, Robin Bowen (Brian) of Whitewater, Crystal Westerfield of Birmingham, Alabama, Michelle Holle (Scott) of Valley Center, Kansas, Becky Kahle (Devin) and Todd Westerfield all of Whitewater; 16 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold in 2001; son, Bill Edgmon, brothers, Virgil, Elmer, Cecil and Ray Watson; sisters, Ethyleen Johnson and Lola Porter. Pearly passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at the age of 95 years old.

Her family will gather with friends on Sunday, September 27, from 1-3 pm, at Lamb Funeral Home, 120 S. Main, Whitewater. She will be laid to rest on Monday, September 28, at 11:00 am in the Fairview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Linda Diane Fike Peterson was born on November 3, 1950 to Warren and Paula (Muelller) Fike in Herington, KS. She shared her birthday with her Grandpa HFK Mueller.&nbsp; She is the oldest of the seven Fike children. She married her high school sweetheart, Dan Peterson on December 21, 1968.

Linda was a very caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and community member.&nbsp; She consistently embraced the spirit of service above self.&nbsp; Burdick Relay for Life, the Centre School Board, Marion County Commissioner, Burdick United Methodist Women, Labor Day parade chairman, Marion County Special Education Board President, Kansas Association of Counties Board of Directors, and North Central Flint Hills Area Agency of Aging Advisory Council are some the many capacities that Linda enjoyed serving.

You could also find Linda hauling wheat during harvest or on a Heartland travel trip to destinations around the country.&nbsp; She loved sports. Linda enjoyed coaching and playing softball.&nbsp; Dan and she spent countless hours and miles traveling to many places including Brookville, Eudora, El Dorado, Iowa, Kentucky, and even Hawaii to watch their grandchildren’s competitions and activities.&nbsp;

Linda passed away peacefully at her home on September 22, 2020. Survivors are her&nbsp; husband, Dan of the home, Daughter Susie (Tom) Omli of Salina, Son Jeff Peterson of Lawrence: Grandchildren: Tate (Kristin) Omli, Toby (Lindsey) Omli, Sesely Omli, Sydney (Nick) Shiew, Daniel, Clara, and Isaac Peterson: Siblings:&nbsp; Sandra (Steve), Carla (Stacey) Collett, Glenda (Mike) Jirak, Gary (Karol) Fike, Dennis (LouAnn) Fike, and Sara (Scott) Davis: and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will gather with friends on Sunday, September 27th from 2- 7 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Herington.&nbsp; Her funeral service will be held on Monday, September 28th at 11 a.m. at the Burdick United Methodist Church led by Pastor Sue Talbot.&nbsp; She will be laid to rest in the Burdick UMC Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;
