Delbert Dean Fairbanks, 86, of Manhattan, died February 14, 2024 at his home in Manhattan.

He was born on March 8, 1937 in Wamego, Kansas, the son of Lon and Irene (Lyon) Fairbanks. He graduated from Manhattan High School with the class of 1955.

Delbert worked for many years as a brick and stone mason in the Manhattan area and throughout the Midwest. He wasn’t afraid of working hard and enjoyed the outcome of what he helped to build. One of his favorite hobbies was woodworking. He made many different types of furniture and toys for the grandkids, and many, many birdhouses over the years.

On July 15, 1982 in Pascagoula, Mississippi, he was united in marriage to his wife Carolee. She survives at their home in Manhattan.

Delbert is also survived by his children, Debra Wheeler, of Kansas City and Mark Fairbanks (Angela), of Topeka; also, his step-children, George Bannon and Michele Ridder (Rick); his five grandsons: Wesley Bannon, Cory Ridder, Michael Ridder, Tyler Wheeler, and Blaine Ridder and five great-grandchildren; his sister Rita Littleton, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Mr. Fairbanks will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday February 23, 2024 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Devin Wendt officiating. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. The family will greet friends prior to the services.

Alvin James Lovgren, a longtime Manhattan business owner, passed away peacefully February 13, with his wife by his side.

Jim, as he was known by his family and many friends, was born in Old Randolph Kansas, December 28, 1931, the son of John and Agnes (Huber) Lovgren and moved to Manhattan as a child and spent his entire life as a member of the Manhattan community.

On December 20, 1953, Jim married the love of his life Donna Mae Kilner in Manhattan, KS. Together they enjoyed 70 years of marriage and raised three sons, Burt, Robert and Kurtis in the Manhattan community.

He entered the United States Navy on April 27, 1951, where he served his country on the USS Philippines Sea aircraft carrier for 4 years during the Korean War. Jim was honorably discharged on Aril 15, 1955, returning home to build a wonderful life with his wife Donna. He enjoyed memberships to the American Legion and VFW.

In 1955 Jim went to work for Powell Brothers Plumbing where he worked until 1987, when he became a partner of Midstate Mechanical, Inc. and worked at the business until he retired December 29, 2017, at the age of 86 years. He was a highly skilled and trusted member of the plumbing and pipe fitting industry and spent his career serving Manhattan and the surrounding communities. He was very proud of his employees and being able to work with his sons in the trade and teaching his grandsons the plumbing profession.

Jim lived an exceptional life. He adored his wife and deeply loved his sons. He was a kind and generous man. More than anything he loved spending time with his family especially the grandkids and great grandkids. Summer vacations, boating, camping and holidays were special times where he enjoyed the company of those, he loved the most. He was highly respected and deeply loved by his family and the many friends he made throughout the years.

For many years Jim was a proud supporter of Kansas State Football, KU Basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs and enjoyed watching his teams. Sunday evening, he watched his last game, getting to see the Chief’s win the Super Bowl.

He was proud of his 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, as much as they were proud that he was their grandfather, and they are grateful for the many wonderful memories they have of times they spent together.

He was preceded in death by his great granddaughter Madilyn (Madie) Mall and his granddaughter Katelyn (Katie Belle) Lovgren. He was also predeceased by his 4 siblings: Susan (Susie) McNulty, Clara Lovgren, Frank (Gigs) Lovgren and Francis (Pansy) Couch.

He is survived by his wife Donna, of the home; sons Burt Lovgren (Patty), Bob Lovgren (Melodie) and Kurtis Lovgren (Lisa) all of Manhattan; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

The family would appreciate your presence at a memorial service Thursday, February 22, 2024, to honor and remember Jim’s life. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. with service following at 2:30 p.m. at&nbsp; Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.&nbsp;A private graveside service will take place at a later date.

Alvin James Lovgren

William Anthony Eilert, 35, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024 in Wichita, Kansas. William was born October 30, 1988, to Kathleen (Ackerman) Eilert and Mark Eilert at US Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. He was their fourth child of five.

Born to a military family, William moved frequently as a child, first to Tennessee, and then again to Kansas where he began school, attending St. John’s Catholic Schools in Beloit. He attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, where he studied Engineering, and Manhattan Area Technical College, where he studied Computer Science. William worked as a bartender at Finn’s Neighborhood Pub for several years before finally returning to Beloit to work on the family farm, which he found much to his liking.

William was known for his gentle personality, agreeable demeanor, and brilliant sense of humor. He made fast friends in every walk of life and was quick to volunteer his help to a friend or family member’s personal problem or dizzying home construction project.&nbsp; William proved loyal to a fault, and many friends and family found themselves in his debt as the technical genius quickly absorbed a problem and set to work on their solution. William loved gaming with his friends and siblings, hunting, fishing, and playing with his beloved dog Trout.

Surviving are his parents: Kathleen (Ackerman) Eilert of Park, and Mark Eilert of Beloit, his grandparents: Robert and Alice Ackerman of Park, and Donald and Dolores Eilert of Beloit. He is also survived by his siblings and their families: Kenneth, Jillian, Josselyn, and Thomas Eilert of Indianapolis, Indiana, Matthew, Emma, Charly, Ellie, and Ralph Eilert of Park, Kelly, Manny, Emery, and Isabella Sandlin of Manhattan, and Benjamin, Sadie, Adalynn, Wyatt, and Rylee Eilert of Beloit. His many nieces and nephews held William as a doting and favored uncle.

Rosary and Funeral Services will be held at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church. The rosary will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 7 p.m., and Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the rosary on February 20, 2024 at Schoen Funeral Home And Monuments, from 1﹘5 p.m. with family present from 4 - 5 p.m.

Beverly Joan Pelfrey, 82, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away on February 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

A family led Memorial service will take place at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd, Manhattan, KS 66503, Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.

Beverly was born on July 26, 1941, to Wilbur and Rosetta (Starr) Neal in Topeka, Kansas. She lived the majority of her life in Junction City and started working at the United Telephone Company in the late '50s and stayed until the mid '60s. After working at the United Telephone Company, she started working at the police department as their administrator and continued until her retirement.

Being a military spouse, she had to move her family to Ft. Benning, Georgia for a short period of time until they decided to come back home to Junction City, Kansas and remained until her move to Manhattan in 2017, to be closer to her son. Beverly could make any outfit or costume and did for many Halloweens, birthdays, and Christmas'. Her children will always remember their homemade dolls, stylish clothing, costumes, and mom's famous haircuts, as well as her yearly police department Christmas parties as Mrs. Claus. She was also a very talented cook and baker. She would make her family homemade dinners every night until she passed her gift down to her daughter, making it her responsibility.

Beverly is survived by her loving children, Darin (Roxie) Pelfrey of Manhattan, Kansas and daughter, Brenda (Robert) Glessner of Texas; two brothers, Thomas (Norma) Neal and Patrick Neal of Junction City; two grandchildren, Morgan Marx of Texas and Matthew Glessner of Florida and one Great-grandson, Dylan Marx. She was preceded by her loving husband, James A. Pelfrey; mother, Rosetta Irena Neal; father, Wilbur M. Neal; one brother, Jerome Neal; one sister, Janet Estes and one granddaughter, Emily Glessner.

H. Carol "Bobbi" Davis, 89, of Junction City, Kansas died Monday, February 12, 2024 at Northcare Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.

Bobbi was born on December 10, 1934 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Thomas Johnathon and Hetty M. (Reed) Moore. She was the fourth of six children (four sisters and a brother). After Bobbi’s father passed February 28, 1941 at the VA Hospital in Laramie Wyoming, the family moved to Merna, Nebraska for two years, and then settled in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Bobbi attended Junior and Senior High School there, graduating from Broken Bow High School in 1953.

 After graduating from high school, while working at the Broken Bow Arrow Hotel, Bobbi met Cameron Davis, a young Army Paratrooper home on leave. They were married on January 25, 1955. Bobbi and Cameron spent their honeymoon traveling to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina for her first experience with Army life. After overseeing the care of her mother, Hetty, during her final years, Bobbi’s mother passed away on March 19, 1994 in Junction City, Kansas. Bobbi and Cameron spent 30 years and two months as an Army couple raising three sons, all of whom joined in the family tradition of military service. She experienced Army family separations while Cameron served in Iceland, Korea and Vietnam as well as exercises and Temporary Duty requirements. Together they traveled the across the country and overseas, living in North Carolina, Colorado, Alabama, Nebraska, Kansas, Illinois and Germany.

In her later years, Bobbi helped setup, clerk and assisted in evaluating antique glassware for an auction service in Junction City. Bobbi never had a separate career of her own but she held several jobs. From running a hospital administration office, to department store sales clerk to numerous volunteer positions assisting on-post Soldier Support activities and even Chief of International Money Transfers at a major bank, she excelled at everything she did. Bobbi and Cameron retired from the Army in 1983, finally settling in Junction City, Kansas where they lived 42 years.

Bobbi is survived by her husband of 69 years, Cameron; her sister, Sharon (Moore) Johnson; three sons and their wives; Charles and Sharon, Mark and Marti, and Dan and Linda; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren

.The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at the Johnson Funeral Home 203 N. Washington Street Junction City, Kansas. A celebration of life will be held in memory of Bobbi at 11:30 a.m. on February 21, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church, 804 N. Jefferson Street, Junction City, Kansas. Following at 1:00 p.m. will be an inurnment ceremony at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road Manhattan, Kansas. H. Carol "Bobbi" Davis

Lennie Blixt of Chapman passed away Friday February 9th, 2024 at Ascension Via Christi-Manhattan.

 Lennie was born January 11, 1949, in Arnold Nebraska, the son of Manfred and Ildie (Wheeler) Blixt.On February 16, 1979, Lennie married Carole Empson in Abilene, Kansas. They made their home in the Chapman community. Lennie graduated from Arnold High School in 1967 and he then joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam. After his time in the Army Lennie worked at Blixt Construction with his brothers and sister. Later in life Lennie was a civil service plumber at Ft. Riley before his retirement. Lennie was a member of the Chapman American Legion post.

Lennie is survived by his wife Carole of the home, his daughter Jennifer Wadeson and her husband Scott of Junction City, Kansas, his granddaughters Shelbi Mathis of San Diego, California and Kylie Merritt of Tucson, Arizona and his brothers Lyle (Janie) and LeRoy (Tina) Blixt of Chapman and his sister Lydia Blixt of Emporia, KS.Lennie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Larry and Leon Blixt, sister Lila Kitch and his daughter Georgi Blixt.

Lennie was born January 11, 1949, in Arnold Nebraska, the son of Manfred and Ildie (Wheeler) Blixt.On February 16, 1979, Lennie married Carole Empson in Abilene, Kansas. They made their home in the Chapman community. Lennie graduated from Arnold High School in 1967 and he then joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam. After his time in the Army Lennie worked at Blixt Construction with his brothers and sister. Later in life Lennie was a civil service plumber at Ft. Riley before his retirement. Lennie Blixt 

It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Moseley Zuck of Manhattan, Kansas, announces her passing on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the age of 70 after an extended illness. She was born July 16, 1953, at Pepperrell Air Force Base in Saint Johns, Newfoundland.

Patti (one of many nicknames she had including, Trish, Tricia, Yaya, Pat and Patty Dawn) grew up all over the world with her Air Force family as the third child and first daughter of Lt. Colonel Nelson B. &amp; Emily S. Moseley. Her brothers and sisters are Mike, Mark, Melissa, Debbie, Willie, and Pam. While money was tight on a military salary with seven children, there was always plenty of love to go around. Nelson called his children, “A bouquet of flowers, each lovely and individuals in their own right.” They are a very close family with great experiences together as well as on their own.

Growing up, Patti was active in many activities including dance, gymnastics, bowling, swimming, and cheerleading. In 1971, she graduated from Wayne High School in Huber Heights, Ohio. In college, she majored in accounting and afterwards, followed in her father’s footsteps and earned her wings as a stewardess for United Airlines.

Her life brought her to Manhattan where she was active in real estate and raising her two children, Caroline and Peter. Patti’s lifelong love of bowling led her to her husband David Zuck. Bowling was a significant part of their entertainment and eventually they purchased the local bowling center in 2002 and renamed it Zucky Bowl.

David and Patti were instrumental in starting the bowling teams for Manhattan High School with Patti coaching both the boy’s and girl’s teams and earning her certification as a Silver Level Coach. She also earned many bowling achievement awards over the course of her lifetime.

Living in Manhattan, Patti was introduced to Kansas State University and Wildcat football. She developed a new love – attending games, tailgating, and traveling the country to see the games with David. For two years straight, they had perfect attendance at both home and away games, other years attending as many as they could. She had many other loves such as country western dancing, NASCAR racing, gymnastics, family, cooking, shopping, knitting, sewing, needlepoint, and crocheting. She loved going to casinos where her favorite game was nickel or quarter poker. David and Patti also enjoyed their RV and began taking camping trips, sometimes even if it was just to the local lake.

Patti will be remembered for her “I can” attitude. Her father taught her that American ends in two words – “I CAN”, and she was to always remember that she could do whatever she set her mind to!

Patti is lovingly remembered by her husband, David Zuck, her daughter and son, Caroline (Kunze) White and Peter Allen Kunze, stepdaughter, Debbie Woehrman along with grandchildren, Danielle Kennemer, David Woehrman, Keely Kridner, and Eli White; and great-grandchildren, Danika Kennemer and Dean Woehrman. Other survivors include her siblings, Mike (Melanie) Moseley, Mark (Karen) Moseley, Melissa (Carlos) Otoya, Debbie (Bruce Kemper) Moseley, and Willie (Noreen) Moseley, as well as many nieces and nephews, and a life-long list of very special friends. Patti was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Pam (Dan) Hensley.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas, 66502. Patricia Moseley Zuck 

Martin David Franklin, age 67, passed away in Manhattan, Kansas, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House on February 13, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. Martin was born on March 21, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Kristine Louise Brozovich on February 12, 1983, in Fort Collins, CO. They were married for 40 years.

Marty was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Marty graduated from Colorado State University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and 2008 earned a Master of Science in Education TESOL from Shenandoah University. He and his wife served as missionaries in Latin America for three years before moving to Hibbing, Minnesota, where they raised their family. Marty spent his career working at Hibbing High School as a Spanish teacher. During his time in Hibbing, Marty was also involved in his church community at Blessed Sacrament Parish, where he taught various RCIA, Catechism, and Scripture classes, as well as leading a Latin Chant Schola. Marty retired from his teaching career in 2020. In 2021 he and his wife moved to Kansas to be near family.&nbsp;

Marty was an accomplished guitarist and musician. He was also an avid recreational arborist (tree climber), well-known by various state park rangers for climbing the tallest trees. Marty could often be found outdoors, happily cultivating many native plants. He also had a lifetime passion for studying philosophy, metaphysics, and the writings of St. Thomas Aquinas.&nbsp;

Marty is survived by his children, Kelly (Jessica) Franklin of Hillsdale, Michigan, and Jody (Devin) Weis of Wamego, Kansas; grandchildren Gianna and Guadalupe Franklin, and Andrew and Clara Weis; siblings Judy (James) Hartley, J. Scott (Cindy) Franklin, Robert Franklin; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Kristine Brozovich Franklin; his parents, Walter Byron Franklin Jr. and Nancy Lee Franklin; and his brother, Walter “Skip” Byron Franklin, III.

Marty was a gentle but persevering soul and will be greatly missed. We entrust him to the Living God.

Jason L. Hodges, 48, of St. George, Kansas, passed away on Friday (February 2, 2024) at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas.

Born July 23, 1975 in Manhattan, Jason was the son of Donald and Linda (Catlin) Hodges. &nbsp;He was a 1993 graduate of Rock Creek High School. &nbsp;Jason was an avid Yankees and Jayhawks fan and enjoyed farming on his family’s farm. He loved hanging out with his buddies on Friday nights. &nbsp;Jason will be remembered as a kind and caring person who was always willing to help others.

In 1994, Jason graduated from Manhattan Area Technical College for Computer Operations and Graphics and &nbsp;began his career in IT with AIB International where he was currently employed.

Survivors include his parents, Don and Linda Hodges of St. George, KS; two brothers, Joe Hodges (Roberta) of Wamego and Kyle Hodges of St. George, KS; a sister, Kalli Roy (Dustin) of Westmoreland, KS; his God Son, Easton Hodges; and many nieces and nephews.

&nbsp; Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Cremation services are in the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.

Graveside services will be held Saturday morning (February 17, 2024) at 11:30 at St. George Cemetery, St. George, Kansas. &nbsp;The family will meet with friends to celebrate Jason’s life at a gathering following the graveside service.

Mary Ellen Alexander, 89 of Leonardville, Kansas died on Monday, February 12, 2024 at the Leonardville Nursing Home in Leonardville, Kansas. She was born on November 3, 1934 in Clay County, Kansas, the daughter of Roy and Vella (Bougen) Schrum.

Mary grew up in Clay County and attended schools in Clay Center before transferring to Green, graduating high school in 1951. &nbsp;She married Roy Alexander on June 17, 1951 and he preceded her in death on July 6, 2004. &nbsp;Mary worked in the Clay County Clerk’s office for several years and then started working at the veterinary school at Kansas State University. &nbsp;She would later transfer to the Chemical Engineering Department, where she worked until her retirement. &nbsp;Mary also farmed with her husband. She was a member of the Hays United Methodist Church, where she was the children’s choir director. She is also preceded in death by her parents; son; Roger Alexander; brother Jacky Schrum; sister Shirley Stadle and son in-law, Ed Avery.

She is survived by 2 daughters; Susan and husband, Keith Schaefer of Linn, Kansas and Robin Avery of Concordia, Kansas; 20 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Clay Center United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas.&nbsp;

She was born on April 6, 1927, on a farm near Leonardville, the daughter of Lucas D. and Lena J. (Potts) Buss.

Ruth Ann Evans, 74, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on February 9, 2024, at Stormont Vail - Flint Hills Campus after a valiant battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place and she will be brought back home with her husband.

Ruth Ann was born on November 7, 1949, to Jess and Ester Caviness, in Versailles, Missouri. She grew up with four brothers and one sister.After a long engagement of love and joy, she married Donald Evans on September 8, 1989, in Miami, Oklahoma. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage together. Out of this union, two families were blended together creating one big family.&nbsp; Ruth Ann was a caretaker. She made sure to take care of everyone she met and never knew a stranger. She will be deeply missed by her family and the people she took care of over the years.

She is survived by her loving husband, Donald; one daughter, Rhonda Ivie of Stover, Missouri; one stepson, Kent Evans of Columbus, Georgia and a host of loving grandchildren. Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; one daughter, Rebecca Reed and one step-daughter, Tamara Lynn Monden.

Wanda Gail Coleman, 67, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.Wanda was born October 23, 1956, in Nuremberg, Germany to Wilbur R. and Dorothy J. (Eastwood) Coleman. The family was stationed at Ft. Riley when Wanda was 3 and she remained a lifelong resident of Junction City.

Wanda worked for Dillons in Junction City and Manhattan for 33 years and met so many friends along the way. Wanda loved Wonder Woman and one of her nicknames was Wanda Woman, she too was a powerful and empowered woman. She enjoyed gardening, especially orchids. Wanda had a true talent for cake making and decorating. She made cakes for all occasions and the most recent one was a loved ones’ wedding cake. One of Wanda’s biggest loves was going and seeing her son Adam perform, near and far. Not only did she always support his passion for music but shared it with him and celebrated him for it. Through this, she got another one of her nicknames, RG (Rock Grandma), and was proud to be RG to many! Her grandsons were such a light in her life, and she really cherished the time she got with them. The way she loved and accepted people for who they were, was one of the many things that made Wanda so special to so many and the Queen that she was.

Wanda is survived by her son Adam Watson, his Wife Lauren, and their 3 boys Theo, Parker and Miles; son, Andrew Wolf and his children Landon Wolf and Mick Reeves; sister, Donna Coleman; Rob &amp; Ellie Watson; sister-in-law Kim Coleman; nieces, Shannon Erickson, Torrie (Tevis) Denton and Jacqie Reisinger; nephews, Ricky Shadix, Clay (Amber) Crocker and Cordell (Heather) Coleman; as well as 10 great-nieces and nephews. Wanda is also survived by a host of extended family, and many dear friends who were family.

Michael Arthur Millett, 50, of Junction City, Kansas died Sunday, February 4, 2024 at his home in Junction City.

Michael was born October 2, 1973, the son of Clifton Melvin and Diane Helen (La Mountain) Millett, Jr.Michael worked in the maintenance and janitorial field for many years. He enjoyed NASCAR and Football, woodworking, fishing, grilling, finding the great recipe for BBQ and any project outdoors. He enjoyed staying busy.

Survivors include one daughter, Brooklyn Millett of Junction City, Kansas and Brooklyn's mother Jessica Ringquist (Brandon); two sons, Chad Millett (Kaitlyn) and Kyle Millett; four grandchildren; one brother, David Carr of Virginia; three sisters, Jennifer Brown, Tammy Crosno and Michele Barrows of Massachusetts; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Janet Gonzales of Hutchinson, Kansas; two sister-in-laws, Amber May (Dustin). Ashleigh Gonzales (Josh); one brother-in-law Bobby Gonzales (McKenzie) many nieces and nephews who knew him as the infamous "Uncle Monkey" and a host of other friends and relatives. Michael Arthur Millett

Raymond Dean Richard, age 84, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024, at Community Memorial Hospital, Marysville. Dean was born in Concordia, Kansas, to Frances (Snyder) Richard and Raymond Richard on June 22, 1939.&nbsp;

After attending Concordia public schools, Dean joined the United States Navy where he served as a radio operator on various Navy cruisers and could still tap out Morse Code well beyond his years of service. While in the Navy, he was stationed in San Diego, Japan and Guam. In 1957, Dean married Barbara Drury and the couple had two children, Jade and Scott.&nbsp;

Following Dean’s time in the Navy, he went to work for Boogaarts, first in the warehouse and then as a meat cutter in Concordia, Lindsborg and WaKeeney. In 1965 Dean moved to Marysville to become the meat manager at Boogaarts where he remained a well-known staple for 40 years until his retirement in 2001. After retirement, he continued to fill in for various grocery stores as a meat cutter, including Dank’s grocery store. He also trained several people entering the profession.&nbsp;

In 1985, Dean married Frances Black and gained two more sons, Bill, wife Sandy, Bob, and a daughter, Sandra along with four grandchildren, Stephanie, Ben, Kim and Ashley.&nbsp;

Dean was an active and beloved member of the Marysville Methodist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and a dedicated volunteer at the local food pantry. He was an avid golfer who belonged to the Cedar Hills Golf Course in Washington, Kansas. He also enjoyed camping, woodworking and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a caring man with a quick wit who always appreciated a good bakery and ice cream.&nbsp;

Dean’s survivors include: his wife, Frances, of the home; Jade (Ron) Peters, Lenexa; Scott Richard, Marysville; Bill (Sandy) Griffis, Centennial, CO; Bob (Kathy) Griffis, Manhattan; Sandra Black, Marysville; Grandchildren, Stephanie (Gavin) Riches, Kimberly Griffis and Aaron Epp, Ashley (Chase) Wheeler, Benjamin Griffis and Julia Hofman. &nbsp; Great-grandchildren, Fiona and Rozlyn Wheeler, Tegan and Will Riches, Renee and Mazie Rene Griffis. &nbsp;Adopted grandchildren, James, Lizzie and Bella Bussmann and Reed McMahon, nephew Jim George, niece Dorothy Johnston (Mike Smith), and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Shirley George, and nephew, Ed George.

Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the Marysville Methodist Church. &nbsp;

Luther Miles Griffin was born May 19, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Sarah Johnson Griffin. He passed away at his home at the age of 71 in Abilene, Kansas on February 7, 2024.

Luther worked as a butcher and baker before serving his country in the United States Army for 15 years attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Community Bible Church and enjoyed building and racing RC cars and doing crossword puzzles.&nbsp; On April 27, 1974 he was united in marriage to Teresa McCook in Kansas City, Missouri. Teresa survives of the home.

 Other survivors include his daughters Brandi Marie Cross (Reggie) of El Dorado, Arkansas, Kimberli Anne Hoette (Chris) of St. Peters, Missouri, brothers Randy Griffin, Leslie Griffin of Kansas City, Missouri, three grandchildren Devin Triplet, Joshua Cross, Jonathan Hoette, and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.Luther’s family has selected cremation.

Claude Gay Jr., 72 passed away February 7, 2024. He was born April 29, 1951 in Hays, Kansas the son of Claude SR and Dorothy (Staley) Gay. Claude served in the United States Army.&nbsp; After his time in the service, he lived out in Colorado for several years, before moving back to Abilene and later part of his life he lived in Leavenworth.

 He is survived by his sisters, Kathy Geske and husband Tim of Enterprise and Linda Gray on Anchorage, Alaska. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Roxanna (Roxie).

 The family has chosen cremation. There are no services planned at this time.

On January 1, 2009, in Las Vegas, Nevada, she was married Brian James Duke. Brian preceded her in death on March 22, 2021.

Survivors include her two sons: Glenn Patrick Niess, Jr. and Zackery Michael Niess both of Manhattan; her mother Connie McClellan of Manhattan; her father Eddie McClellan and his wife Lois of The Villages, FL; one sister Michelle Curtis and her husband Tim of Spring Hill, FL; two grandchildren: Lyla Marie Niess and Atlas Duke; and two step-sons: Steven and Thomas Duke.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, February 13th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Lewis O. Smith, Sr. officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley.

Stephanie R. Duke - January 18, 1972  -  February 3, 2024 

Richard (Rick) Boomer went to be with the Lord on February 8, 2024. Born in Osborne, Kansas, on September 12, 1949, Rick was the 3rd of six children to Warren and Viola Boomer.

Rick's childhood was rooted in the farming traditions of rural Kansas. He learned the value of hard work, resilience, and stewardship of the land from working with his family on the farm He enjoyed and participated in many sports in high school and college, excelling in football, baseball, basketball, and golf. On the family farm, Rick also enjoyed hunting with his brothers and friends, which became an annual tradition.

Rick attended Kansas State University and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. After graduation, he dedicated himself to his career as a Certified Public Accountant. Through his profession he was able to share his heart for others with his colleagues, clients, and community.

In 1974, Rick married Patricia Boomer, sharing 50 years of wonderful family memories. Together, they raised two daughters, Whitney Geldon and Jenna Gourlay, who brought immeasurable joy and pride to Rick's life.

In addition to his professional achievements, Rick was a devoted coach to his daughters’ softball teams, fostering their athletic talents and instilling in them the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Whether on the sidelines cheering them on or offering guidance on the field, Rick’s passion for sports was surpassed only by his pride in their accomplishments.

Rick was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, which helped guide his faith and enriched his life. Among many of his service roles, he loved greeting and shaking hands with all who entered, learning their names and getting to know them. He was very fond of both his coffee group at Church and his exercise groups from Via Christy and Wildcat Fitness.

In recent years he took great pleasure in his role as grandfather to three adoring grandchildren, Payne, Olivia, and Abraham. He cherished every moment spent with them, imparting wisdom, love, and laughter.

Rick is survived by his wife, Patricia (Patty) Boomer; loving daughters, Whitney Geldon (Alex) and Jenna Gourlay (Matthew); cherished grandchildren, Payne Gourlay, Olivia Geldon, and Abraham Geldon; his brothers Gary (Mary), Gene (Marsha), Russ (Cathy), Kent (Robin), many nieces, nephews and valued friends. Rick was preceded in death by his parents and sister Kathy Boomer Palmer. We will carry his memory in our hearts always.

A memorial service celebrating Rick's life will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, 2500 Kimball Ave Manhattan, Kansas 66502, Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, in Rick's memory.

He learned the value of hard work, resilience, and stewardship of the land from working with his family on the farm He enjoyed and participated in many sports in high school and college, excelling in football, baseball, basketball, and golf. On the family farm, Rick also enjoyed hunting with his brothers and friends, which became an annual tradition.Rick attended Kansas State University and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. After graduation, he dedicated himself to his career as a Certified Public Accountant. Through his profession he was able to share his heart for others with his colleagues, clients, and community.In 1974, Rick married Patricia Boomer, sharing 50 years of wonderful family memories. Together, they raised two daughters, Whitney Geldon and Jenna Gourlay, who brought immeasurable joy and pride to Rick's life.In addition to his professional achievements, Rick was a devoted coach to his daughters’ softball teams, fostering their athletic talents and instilling in them the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Whether on the sidelines cheering them on or offering guidance on the field, Rick’s passion for sports was surpassed only by his pride in their accomplishments.Rick was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, which helped guide his faith and enriched his life. Among many of his service roles, he loved greeting and shaking hands with all who entered, learning their names and getting to know them. He was very fond of both his coffee group at Church and his exercise groups from Via Christy and Wildcat Fitness.In recent years he took great pleasure in his role as grandfather to three adoring grandchildren, Payne, Olivia, and Abraham. He cherished every moment spent with them, imparting wisdom, love, and laughter.Rick is survived by his wife, Patricia (Patty) Boomer; loving daughters, Whitney Geldon (Alex) and Jenna Gourlay (Matthew); cherished grandchildren, Payne Gourlay, Olivia Geldon, and Abraham Geldon; his brothers Gary (Mary), Gene (Marsha), Russ (Cathy), Kent (Robin), many nieces, nephews and valued friends. Rick was preceded in death by his parents and sister Kathy Boomer Palmer. Rick Boomer - September 12, 1949  -  February 8, 2024

Geary Wayne Mosburg, age 84, of Manhattan, died February 6, 2024, at his residence. He was born October 24, 1939, in Clay Center, KS, the son of Harold and Violet (Knitter) Mosburg. Geary graduated from Clay Center High School with the class of 1958. Geary was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Manhattan, a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the ISIS Shrine.

Even though he began his work career at the age of 8 shining shoes at the National Guard Armory on Saturdays and Sundays for $2 a day plus tips, his passion was the grocery business. His other job at age 10 was mowing lawns and he said, “you pushed the mower wherever you wanted to go, no pickup or trailer.” His passion for the food industry began at age 11 at the corner grocery store, Lincoln Heights Market, working “voluntarily” while waiting for brother Bill to get off work there. At age 12 he was hired by Art Cowell and Bill Simpson at Lincoln Heights for 15cents an hour. At 14 he was taught to cut meat with a cleaver – no power saws! At age 15 Geary went to work in the meat department of Boogaarts Supermarket for 35 cents an hour saving for his first car, a 42 Chevy 2-door coup, then later traded up for a 1950 Ford – “what a beauty.”

In August of 1959 Geary married Ann Wieters. They were blessed with daughters Julie Ann and Susan Jean, and son Jeffry Darin. From 1959 through 1967 Geary continued his work for Boogaarts as market manager in several different locations in Kansas – Washington, Goodland, and Hays. 1968 he joined Dutchmaid Supermarkets in Manhattan, KS as a co-manager. In fall of 1968 he received the opportunity to purchase his first supermarket in Colby, KS which he made very successful. The family returned to Manhattan in 1972 as Geary returned to Dutch Maid until 1976.

Geary married Donna Weckerly on December 6, 1975, in Syracuse, Kansas. They purchased the Clay Center IGA in 1976 beginning a very successful journey also owning supermarkets in Manhattan, Great Bend and Goodland. In 1979 they were blessed with daughter Angela Dawn Eloise. After 12 years in Goodland growing Mosburg IGA and daughter, Angie, they returned home to Manhattan in 1998. Geary accepted a position with Capstone Properties as a three State Regional Property Manager. Ever the retailer and people person, after semi-retiring in 2002 he worked part-time at Menard’s 5 years. Only officially retiring when Donna did in 2021. And since they have enjoying traveling and, especially, their children and grandchildren, their biggest blessings!

Survivors include his wife Donna of Manhattan; four children: Julie Mosburg-Lolley and her husband Dan of Manhattan, Susan Mosburg-Hoss and her husband Brent of McLouth, KS, Jeff Mosburg and his wife Becky of Manhattan, and Angie Mosburg-Felzien and her husband Trent of Manhattan; one brother Bill Mosburg and wife Nancy of Bonner Springs, KS; sister-in-law Donis Mosburg of Greenwood, MO; nine grandchildren: Kendell Lolley, Shelby Kraybill (Joe), Jeremy Foy (Sabrina), Morgan Bridges (Brynn), Kelsey Foy, Jake and Nick Mosburg, and Ellie and Seth Felzien; eight great-grandchildren, Austin Jones (Ashley), Victoria Foy, Jaxon Foy, John Foy, Vayda Bridges, Ellis Bridges, Sylvia Kraybill and Sophia Caves; one great-great grandson Truett Jones, and many nieces and nephews.

Geary was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Calvin, Bruce and Richard Mosburg, one grandson Johnathan Geary Lolley; one great granddaughter Bexley Bridges.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Monday, February 12th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 13th, at the First Lutheran Church, 930 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, with Reverend Stephen Haverlah officiating. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, KS.

Geary Wayne Mosburg

Lovie Louise Childers left her earthly life on January 29th, 2024 in Junction City, Kansas at the age of 59.

Miss Lovie, as she was affectionately known, was born on November 16, 1963 in Muskegon, Michigan where she attended local schools and grew up with two brothers she loved deeply and surrounded by a large extended family.&nbsp; After high school Miss Lovie joined the United States Army where she served honorably for twenty years as an automated logistics clerk. During that time she deployed to Africa, Germany, Iraq, and Afghanistan and served in Operation Desert Storm. Miss Lovie was awarded multiple metals during her military service, retiring as a Staff Sergeant . She was very proud of our country and her time in the military.

While stationed at Ft. Bliss she dove deeper into her Christian faith and became very involved with her church. That love of Christ continued throughout her life, leading her to pray over those who would allow it and to give generously. She purchased equipment for her church in Junction City and often financially supported friends, and strangers, in need.

 After retirement she worked briefly at the commissary on Ft. Riley and in fast food. However, struggles with mental illness dating back to her military service made life difficult for Miss Lovie. The past twenty years of her life were spent living in her little red car, a constant seen around Junction City and in the Walmart or Planet Fitness parking lot. While homeless, Miss Lovie continued to give from her heart. She helped other homeless neighbors complete government paperwork, advocated for them, offered food and assistance, and always had a kind word and prayer. She assisted her family with unexpected expenses and took care of her aging mother as best she could from Kansas.

 It would be safe to say that in her retirement, Miss Lovie still served as a guardian and friend. Since her passing stories have poured in of her kindness, including driving alongside female employees at Walmart as they walked to their cars at night to ensure their safety and doing daily checks on sick or elderly friends. Yet she never asked for anything for herself, often turning down assistance.

If you had the privilege of meeting Miss Lovie, you can be assured she would not forget your face and she would have a bright smile for you upon your next meeting. She loved her “numbers,” visiting with store employees, discussing the Bible, sharing stories, playing Spades, and good ‘ole soul food. She will be missed by the community whom she adopted twenty years ago and her many friends.

A Christian Celebration of Life will be held at the Junction City, Ks American Legion on March 2nd at 10:30 a.m. with a luncheon following. The community is invited to attend and send Miss Lovie on to her heavenly home together. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alma Louise Childers-Stegall, and two brothers, Kenneth and Jeffery. Her body has been transported back to Michigan where a military burial will take place.

MSG (RET) Robert (Bob) H. Buss, 83, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on February 2, 2024, at Good Shepherd Hospice House. A memorial service will take place at a later time with full military honors.

Bob was born on February 12, 1940, to Marvin and Adelaide (Means) Buss in Wausau, Wisconsin. He attended D.C. Everest High School in Wisconsin. While attending, he was very active in their sports programs. He even held a state title for several years. After graduating high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in 1959, and stayed until retirement.&nbsp; While on military leave, he came back home to marry his high school sweetheart, Gloria Rose Bentley and enjoyed 47 years together. They raised three boys and one daughter and settled in O' Fallon, Missouri. Once settled in Missouri, he continued to work in Aviation with McDonald Douglas as a line worker for the F-4 Phantom. Then worked in a jet shop for the 131st Tactical Fighter Wing. He made the decision to leave the 131st to pursue a position with the F.A.A. until his retirement. He never sat still, he always found time to tinker and work on garage projects.

He is survived by two sons, Robert (Lori) of Westmoreland, Kansas and Charles (Frances) of Wamego, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one son-in-law, Steve.He was preceded by his parents; his wife, Gloria; one daughter, Angela; one son, Christopher, and one granddaughter, Ashley.Read.

MSG (RET) Robert (Bob) H. Buss

Erika A. Stanley, 97, of Olathe, Kansas formerly of Milford, Kansas passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Aberdeen Village in Olathe, Kansas surrounded by her loving family.

Erika was born November 16, 1926, in Lumberg, Poland, the daughter of Jakob and Margaret Bauer.Erika owned and operated Stanley's Cafe in Milford, Kansas for many years. She enjoyed cooking and going to the casino. Erika mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. Spending time with her grandson and great-grandsons was important to her. Erika was proud of her German heritage. On February 9, 1954, she married Darrel L. Stanley. He passed away August 6, 2006.

Survivors include one daughter, Dolores W. Pascarelli and her husband Kenneth of Lenexa, Kansas; one brother, Arthur Bauer of Germany; one sister, Zita Winnzinger of Canada; one grandson, Eric Pascarelli and wife Tami of Gardner, Kansas; two great-grandsons, Cody and Nathan Pascarelli of Gardner, Kansas.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Darrel and one sister Wanda Thoma.

A visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Fort Riley Post Cemetery. A funeral procession to the cemetery will leave Johnson Funeral Home following the visitation at 11 a.m.

Shirley Raymond, 80, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on January 28, 2024, while living in the Kelly House of Topeka.

Shirley married a military man, this gave her an opportunity to travel around the country until their retirement in 1980. After retirement, they both decided to move back to Junction City, Kansas to settle down. Once back in Junction City, Shirley found work at Fort Riley as a personal file clerk, then a pack, and a lead pack in benefits. She stayed in that position until retirement. In her retirement years, she found joy in reading books, watching the theatre, and making ceramics.

She is survived by her three loving sons, Donald, Paul, and Tracy, and one grandson, Parker Raymond.She was preceded by Norma Ozman, Lloyd Draper, Maxine Peterson, Gladys Hicks, and Geraldine Greenwell.
