Linda Joleen (Isernhagen) Ferguson was born February 9th, 1948 in Smith Center, KS to Arnold and Aleen Isernhagen. Linda attended elementary school and junior high in Agra, KS. She attended high school and graduated from Kensington High School in Kensington, KS. That is where she met Jon Ferguson who she married on August 11,1968.

After high school, Linda attended dental assistant school in Emporia, KS. Following her marriage to Jon, they made their home in Manhattan, KS while Jon finished his Engineering degree at Kansas State University. 

Following Jon’s graduation from K-State, the couple moved to Boston, MA where Jon attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Linda worked at Dr. Mann’s dental practice. Linda had many stories to tell about her time working in Boston. The best story that she told was how she worked on a man named Rick Otcasek’s teeth. At the time, Rick was the lead singer for a band called Milkwood. He would later change the spelling of his name and become Rick Ocasek, the lead singer for the Cars.

While living in Boston, Jon and Linda enjoyed the many activities the city had to offer. They also traveled throughout New England enjoying the beautiful scenery. Linda loved nature and all things outdoors.

In 1973, Jon and Linda made the decision to move back to Kensington, KS. They made their home north of Kensington, KS for 41 years while Jon worked and ran the family ranch and farm along with his sister and brother-in-law, Janis and Lyn Lee. Linda was every bit the “rancher” that Jon was. Linda cooked many meals for the ranch employees. She helped work cattle, sprayed musk thistle and ran countless ranch errands. In addition to the routine day-to-day ranching Linda did, she also played nurse whenever dad had a ranching accident. If you know anything about Jon’s ranch related injury count, you know that nursing was often a full-time job for Linda.

When Linda wasn’t busy ranching, she was busy being an amazing mother to her two daughters. Emily Brooke Ferguson was born on February 13th, 1975, and Olivia Paige (Ferguson) Rogers was born on January 31st, 1979. As a family, Jon, Linda, Emily and Oliva enjoyed family camping vacations to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone and Canada. (If you get a chance, ask Jon or Emily how the trip to Canada went.)

Linda was quite the “dance mom” shuttling Emily and Olivia to weekly dance lessons and making sure their costumes, hair and make-up were perfect for recitals. She was always there after each recital with a bouquet of carnations for both girls. Linda’s love and support for her daughters was unconditional and unending.

Love and support was a theme throughout Linda’s life. She was sometimes a second mom to nieces and nephews and Emily’s and Olivia’s closest friends. (Coleen &amp; Jess). Linda had a kind heart and always wanted to help people who might be struggling. This is what led her to become a drug and alcohol counselor during the 1980’s. Linda made a difference by helping patients 1:1. She also sat on the board of the Smoky Hill Foundation in Hays, KS.

Jon and Linda retired from cattle ranching in 2014 and moved to Manhattan, KS where they have many friends and were able to enjoy various social engagements and performing arts events. Few events were ever as important to Linda as K-State football and basketball games. The family has had season tickets to football for many years as well as basketball since they moved to Manhattan. Linda was queen of the tailgate! She loved a good party, and she loved spending time with her family and friends in the parking lot of “The Bill”. Oh, and she liked to watch football and basketball too!

Linda and Jon were dog lovers. Throughout their life together, Linda was the best dog my mom ever to three Basset Hounds (Rufus, Zachary and Ruben) a Shih Tzu (Suchi), two Brittany Spaniels (Ray and Jack), a Springer Spaniel (Sammy) and three soft-coated Wheaten Terriers (Ellie, Rudy and Harry). Linda was also a pretty great dog grandma to Dexter Rogers.

Linda was an avid flower gardener, and she loved to putter around her yard in Manhattan pruning plants and pulling weeds and care for the large fish pond in their front yard. She instilled this love of flowers in both Emily and Olivia. To this day, nothing makes Emily happier than planting flowers in the spring and taking care of them throughout the summer.

In recent years, Jon and Linda enjoyed traveling both with Emily and Oliva and their families and with other family members and friends. Linda loved seeing and experiencing new places. Linda especially loved a tropical location with a beach and a cocktail!

Three years ago Linda and Jon and the family suffered a horrible tragedy with the loss of Oliva to a five year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Jon and Linda were a huge support to each other during the months and years that passed after Olivia’s passing. The way they got through that incredibly difficult time was a testament to their love and support of each other.

Linda passed away on March 5th, 2024 after being diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold Isernhagen and Aleen Schalansky and her daughter, Olivia Rogers. Linda is survived by her husband Jon, daughter Emily, Emily’s significant other Toby Bargar, son-in-law Willie Rogers, grandsons Henry and Oscar Rogers, sisters Sharon Elliott (Jim) and Mary Struckhoff (Cory), brother-in-law Donald Ferguson (Signe) and sister-in-law Janis Lee (Lyn), nephews David, Brian (Amy Brooks) and Daniel Lee and nieces Kristine Meyer, Daneen Deam (Chris) and Angiela Meyer (Eddy Krygiel) along with many more family and friends and of course her baby dog Harry.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 11th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Devin Wendt officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the Johnson County Memorial Gardens in Overland Park, KS.

Hosea Snyder Harkness passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born on March 11, 1933 in Clay Center, Kansas, to Charles A. and Alice Harkness. Hosea grew up on the family farm near Greenleaf, Kansas, and graduated from Greenleaf High School in 1951.

Hosea attended Kansas State University for two years before entering the U.S. Army, serving in Japan. He returned to KSU, receiving a B.S. in Agriculture and an M.S. in Agricultural Economics and Statistics. He married Lily Copeland of Waterville, Kansas on June 2, 1956.

He took a position with the USDA Crop Reporting Service in Topeka, Kansas after graduation, working in offices in Kansas, Utah, Illinois, Washington, D.C., and Arkansas. In 1968, after ten years of government service, Hosea began working at Cook Industries and then Sparks Commodities in Memphis, Tennessee, doing on-the-ground observation of crop yields and developing statistical techniques to forecast crop yields and production, prior to the official release of government reports. He expanded these techniques developed in the US market to several other countries, most notably Brazil and Argentina. Over 25 years, he traveled to more than 25 countries gathering crop information, including more than 50 trips to South America.

After retiring in 1998, Hosea continued to consult for a select group of clients. He also indulged his interests in antique vehicles, toy farm implements, Pickard porcelain, and supporting Lily’s porcelain art ventures, as well as cheering for the Kansas State Wildcats. He and Lily split time between Memphis, Gull Lake, Minnesota, and Fountain Hills, Arizona before moving to Fountain Hills full time in 2002. After Lily’s death in 2020, Hosea moved to Meadowlark Hills.

Hosea’s favorite place in the world was Iguaçu Falls on the Brazil/Argentina border. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and is a member of First Lutheran Church in Manhattan. He was proud of being 43 years sober.&nbsp;

Hosea was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Lily Harkness. He is survived by his children, Rebecca (Pamela Gay) and Donald (Margaret), and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, Rebecca, and John. He is also survived by one sibling, Mary Teschner, many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous colleagues who still use the crop forecasting methods he pioneered.

The family wishes to thank Georgia Adolf and the staff of Miller House at Meadowlark Hills for the loving care provided Hosea.&nbsp;

A viewing is planned from noon to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2024 at the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2024 at the St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waterville with Pastor David Thompson officiating. Kim Oatney will be the musician. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

David L. Hogan, age 64, of Blue Rapids passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

David was born on April 14, 1959, at Fort Riley, to Clarence J. and Wilma J. (Nemechek) Hogan. On April 1, 1985, he marred Verna “Sue” Scaggs in South of the Boarder in South Carolina. &nbsp;Sue passed away in 2013.

During his years with his bride they had many adventures. They worked as Carnival workers in Texas. They enjoyed being volunteer workers in a renaissances fair, dressing the part and living in a tent during the summer before coming back to Waterville for a short time to work at Landolls. They moved to Beatrice Neb where Sue passed away and David found his love for caring for others earning his CNA and returning to Blue Rapids where he worked for Blue Valley Health and Rehab.

Survivors include his siblings James (Susan) Hogan, Roxanne (Allen) Nugent, and Patty (Rick) Moeller all of Waterville, Karen (Roger) Hunter of Topeka, Patrick (Gayla) Hogan of Marysville, and Scott (Tammy) Hogan of Columbus, Nebraska.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Wilma, and by his wife Sue.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Waterville Community Center. &nbsp;A private inurnment will follow at a later date.

Richard Henry, 84, of Clay Center died on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at the Clay County Medical Center.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born August 15, 1939 outside of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, the son of Ray and Nellie Henry.&nbsp;&nbsp;Richard was a Postal Carrier for the United States Post Office.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald and sister Pauline.

He is survived by his wife, Sherill of Clay Center, Kansas; son, Jerry Ray Henry of Dunnsville, Virginia,and 5 grandchildren.

Dale F. Correll, 87, of Abilene passed away February 28, 2024.

 He was born September 22, 1936 in Abilene, Kansas, the son of Frank and Alice (McCosh) Correll. He grew up in Detroit, Kansas and graduated from Chapman High School in 1954 and graduated from Kansas State University with a major in Business Administration. On June 9, 1955 he was united in marriage to Eleanor Lehman at the Carlton Presbyterian Church and celebrated 68 years of marriage together, making their home North of Abilene in the Buckeye community.

 Dale farmed and ranched in his earlier days. He worked as a brakeman for the Rock Island Railroad in Herington for several years. He was sales manager and vice-president at Wyatt Manufacturing, Salina, Kansas. He was president of Mutual Aid Association of the Church of the Brethren for many years. He finished his insurance career as owner of his own national insurance company. He was named chairman of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) and served the organization for many years. Dale was a lifelong member of the Buckeye Church of the Brethren. He also served as a board member of Symphony in the Flint Hills. Dale held many titles throughout his life but he was most proud of being a good husband, father, grandfather and friend.

 Dale is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor, of the home. Children: Sally Nelson; Cindy Krehbiel (John); Debbie Tasker (Russell) and Cheryl Zumbrunn (Dennis). Grandchildren: Drew Burkholder (Athena); Kari Rook (Jarred); Will Krehbiel; Robb Krehbiel; JJ Krehbiel; Matthew Sidener (Brooke); Mark Sidener (Tori) and Alicia Kingsley (Chris). Five great-grandchildren and two siblings, Nadine Lauer and Marilyn Helmer (Martin). He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Kristin Burkholder and Joel Zumbrunn and one sister, Doris Moore.

 The family has chosen cremation. Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 5-7&nbsp; p.m. at Danner Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at the Buckeye Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests memorials be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Grandchildren: Drew Burkholder (Athena); Kari Rook (Jarred); Will Krehbiel; Robb Krehbiel; JJ Krehbiel; Matthew Sidener (Brooke); Mark Sidener (Tori) and Alicia Kingsley (Chris). Five great-grandchildren and two siblings, Nadine Lauer and Marilyn Helmer (Martin). He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Kristin Burkholder and Joel Zumbrunn and one sister, Doris Moore. The family has chosen cremation. Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 5-7&nbsp; p.m. at Danner Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at the Buckeye Cemetery at a later date. Gregory “Greg” Allen Davis was born September 20, 1953 in Salina, Kansas the son of Willard and Mavis (Sandquist) Davis. He passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene.

Greg grew up in the Abilene area, graduated from Abilene High School, and received his Associates Degree from Colby&nbsp; Community College. Greg was a mechanic his entire adult life and owner/operator of G &amp; D Service in Abilene until his retirement. He enjoyed learning about the newest technology, watching western movies and shows, attending K-State football games, and watching all K-State sports, but his love was his children and grandchildren. He loved grilling for them and having them over for family dinners.

 On February 1, 1975 he was united in marriage to Debbie Lady. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his father Willard of Abilene, daughters Erin Signer and her husband Brad of Abilene, Lauren Steinlage and her husband Jonathan of Abilene, son Lucas Davis and his wife Sophia of Scottsdale, Arizona, brothers Bruce Davis of Powhattan, Virginia, Lee Davis of Salina, Jeff Davis of Abilene, Terry Davis of Charlotte, North Carolina, sisters Cindy Neill of Emporia, Denise Neill of Phoenix, Arizona, Glenna Phillips of Salina, five grandchildren Kellen Signer, Aiden Davis, Korbin Davis, Adley Steinlage, and Isaac Steinlage. He was preceded in death by his mother Mavis, and brother Danny Davis.

Funeral services for Greg will be March 12, 2024 at Emmanuel Church in Abilene with Pastor Marc Riegel officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service at 9:00 a.m., service at 10:00 a.m., and burial to follow. His final resting place will be in the Abilene Cemetery.

Maria Heimstra passed away peacefully on December 9, 2023, with family at her bedside, after experiencing complications from surgery. She had been battling congestive heart failure and was hopeful that this surgery would alleviate her symptoms.

Maria Stella Urbanyi was born on September 9. 1934 in Budapest, Hungary to Mathilde (Gentzinger) and Dr Eugene Urbanyi. Her father was a military surgeon and was deployed to various WWII battlegrounds, eventually serving at the Russian front. His hospital team and family members were ordered to Germany, barely escaping the advancing Russian Army.

The group traveled on barges up the frozen Danube River, rode in cattle cars and in the backs of trucks to reach Germany. They spent 3 years in Germany before seeking refuge in England. Their time in England was devastating as her mother passed away from complications of childbirth with a stillborn son.

Eventually, Dr Urbanyi obtained a work visa, and they were able to come to the United States. He was sponsored by the Presentation Sisters of Aberdeen, South Dakota to work as a staff physician at St Lukes Hospital. Rural areas of South Dakota were desperate for physicians at this time and Eugene grew to love the region and built a thriving practice. Maria was able to experience her lifelong dream of becoming an American girl, living in the west with cowboys and Indians.

Maria met her friend Ann Haase while attending Central High School in Aberdeen. They remained good friends for her lifetime. After graduation, she was accepted at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and majored in Fine Arts. She met her future husband, Norman Heimstra while tutoring him in German. They were married in Sioux Falls on June 11th, 1955. They soon moved to Rochester, New York where Norman earned his PhD. They lived in New York, Georgia and Texas before settling down in Vermillion, where Norman became a Psychology professor at USD, Maria earned her master’s degree in foreign Languages and taught German at USD for 10 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died on December 30, 1982. Maria spent the ensuing years enjoying her horses and dogs and living at her home north of Vermillion. She was a member of the congregation at St Agnes Catholic church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. She stayed active by painting and writing children’s books, fiction and stories of her life growing up during the war.

She was very proud to be an American and to live in the United States, she also loved the community of Vermillion. She spent the past few months living in Kansas with her daughter. She is survived by three children, Norman Heimstra of Tremonton, Utah, Cora (Dan) Gehrt of Manhattan, KS and Margo (Ryan) Conley of Springfield, TN, four grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, May 31st, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion, SD.&nbsp; Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Joel Ray Phipps, age 48, of Manhattan, passed away Friday March 1, 2024 at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan.

He was born on August 14, 1975 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Tom and Sharon Phipps. He grew up in Mulvane and graduated from Mulvane High School with the class of 1993. Joel then attended Emporia State University and earned his Bachelors of Science degree.

On June 28, 1997 in Emporia, he was united in marriage to Chrysann Williams. They lived in Emporia until 2013 and their family moved to Manhattan.

Joel worked for many years as a broker/owner for ReMax Select Realty in Emporia. He then became a financial advisor for Edward Jones. He loved his job. The clients Joel worked with were more than clients, they were his friends. It gave him great pleasure helping his friends/clients and being able to be there for them at anytime or just sitting and hanging out talking about life with them.

He was an active person and enjoyed staying busy. Joel loved the outdoors, going fishing and being on the golf course as often as he could. He was a member of the Colbert Hills Golf Club in Manhattan, and was part of the Men’s League and played in many different golf tournaments over the years. Joel was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, where he served on the finance committee for many years, he also was a board member of the First Tee Program in Manhattan.

As much as he enjoyed his friends and clients, his family was the best enjoyment of his life. His wife Chrysann and his two children, Kannon and Rhys were the light of his life. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to take care of them.

Joel will be missed by his family and many colleagues, friends and clients that he got to know over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Chrysann, his children, Kannon and Rhys; his parents Tom and Sharon; and his brothers: Chad Phipps (Whitney) and Matt Phipps (Kendra).

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday March 6, 2024 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Jean Theresa Jensen age 89 died at Homestead Assisted Living in Manhattan, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born December 17, 1934 in Manhattan the daughter of Robert James and Hilda Theresa (Mallon) Rowe. Jean attended Sacred Heart Academy through sixth grade and then attended Keats school graduating in 1953.

She was a homemaker most of her life, but in her later years, she worked at Schram Dodge in Manhattan for about 12 years as a Five Star Coordinator. Her main duty was reaching out by phone, to their sales customers inquiring company satisfaction.

Jean was very devoted to her faith and was a member of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church and for 12 years she and her twin sister, Joan took care of the Adoration Chapel and was a member of the Seven Dolors Alter Society.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of the Stagg Hill women’s golf Association which she accomplished hole-in-one shots.

The most important part of her life was her family. She married Jack Jensen in 1953. Survivors include her six children, Linda Jennings, Manhattan, Ks, Richard Jensen, Manhattan, Ks, Jack Jensen and wife, Vivian of Branson, Mo, Diane Noll, Manhattan, Ks, David Jensen, Lawrence, Ks. Dan Jensen and wife Xiangying from Novato, Ca; one surviving brother Jim Rowe of Riverside Ca; 10 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law‘s Scott Jennings and Keith Noll; eleven siblings Gladys Daniels, Thelma Draper, Bertha Delisle, Robert Rowe, Bill Rowe, Margaret Adams, Bess Nudson, Bernice Enlow, Patty Massey, Betty Sherman, and her twin Joan Ackerman.

Mass of the Christian burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 6th, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church with Father Gale Hammerschmidt as celebrant. Private Family interment will follow in St Patrick’s Cemetery in Ogden Kansas.

Thomas Moss Padgett, 82, of Abilene KS passed away at the Robert J. Dole VA hospital on February 15, 2024.

Tom was born in Rome, Georgia on January 15, 1942, and graduated from South Gate High School in California, in 1960. Tom loved to bowl and was part of a junior bowling team where he would travel all over California. During his life he bowled a perfect game on multiple occasions, throughout the world. 

Tom was enlisted in the Army in 1964 where he served for 22 years in various jobs including Material Control and Accounting Specialist, Military Police, and Subsistence Supply Specialist. He traveled all over the world. Tom was united in marriage to Linda McCarty on August 14, 1971 in Las Vegas, Nevada, before moving to Abilene, Kansas. After retiring from the Army, he spent 15 years as a security guard at the Eisenhower Presidential Library.

Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda E. Padgett. He is survived by his son Michael (Trina) McCarty of Manhattan, KS, daughter Mary (Dennis) Van Dorn of McPherson, KS, grandchildren Ashton (Jeff) Reitz, Zachery Van Dorn, Brian (Allie) McCarty, Ethan (Kaylee) Van Dorn, Shannon McCarty and 5 great grandchildren, Liliana Reitz, Averie Reitz, Chandler Reitz, Kadence Van Dorn, Halstyn McCarty.

Kathy J. Swisher passed away at Meadowlark Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas February 27, 2024. Kathy was born April 7, 1958 in Abilene, Kansas the daughter of Chester and Eunice Gay. Kathy married Thomas Swisher on November 2, 1991 and to this union two sons were born, Andrew Swisher (Luxi), Kenan Swisher (Jodie).

 Kathy is survived by her sons, her mother and her brother Dennis Gay and sister Sue Smith (Mark). Kathy was preceded in death by her father and husband.

In keeping with Kathy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Kathy would have wanted to share John 11:25. “Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”

Kathy J. Swisher - April 7th, 1958 - February 27th, 2024

Larry Petroski, Sr., 60, of Junction City departed peacefully from this life the evening of Tuesday February 27, 2024 at Stormont Vail Flint Hills Campus surrounded by family following a long battle with COPD.

Larry Lorenzo Petroski, Sr. was born June 1, 1963 to Myrtle K. White and Lorenzo Pelletier in Waterbury, CT. The youngest of five siblings, he graduated from Presque Isle High School in Presque Isle, ME. In 1981, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Army as a Military Policeman, later changing to a unit supply specialist. He was honorably discharged in 1998, having served in Operation Desert Storm and receiving the Bronze Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze service stars, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal during his 17 years of service.

At the age of 11 he told Tammy Lagassie he would marry her and nine years later, in 1983, they were married- celebrating their 41st anniversary on February 26th of this year. He was the beloved and proud father of Jammie, Katherine, and Larry Jr. His most important roles were devoted husband, dad and coach of his kids’ sports teams, Pawpaw, and being a father and father figure to those who needed one.

Larry Sr. is survived by his wife of 41 years Tammy Petroski; sons Jammie (Jovy) and Larry Jr.(Christina); daughter Katherine; brothers Albert, Romeo, and Jack; and a grandson, Adam Petroski. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Katherine. 

There will be no services. Interment will be at a later time at Fairview Cemetery in Grandview Plaza so that he and Tammy may rest together forever. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

She was active at the Faith Lutheran Church, playing the organist for years and also was involved in being the youth group leader.

 Janine is survived by her husband, Russell. Her children: Joshua Capsey; Nichole Maddy and Brooke Haley and husband Brian. Grandchildren: Andrew, Hunter, Dylan and Katy Capsey; Lexie, Cara and Macy Maddy and Logan Haley. Her siblings: Jeannette Fenton; Jenise Braden; Collette Crist; Colleen Nicholas; Christine Herrmann; Carla Shaw and Tim Wieters.

Janine M. Schaich

On February 28, 2024 Earl Eugene (Gene) Willich age 79 went to spend eternity with His Lord and Savior. Gene was born January 14, 1945 in Horton, KS. to Otto and Clarice (Keys) Willich. He was a resident of Manhattan since July, 2017 having moved from Hutchinson, KS.

Gene is survived by his wife Sharon (Thompson) Willich of 58 years, a daughter Genae (Greg) Denver of Manhattan; Mike (Cindy)Willich of Shawnee, KS; Corey (Canise) Willich of Lee Summit, Mo.; grandchildren: Danielle (Denver) Wright, Mackenzie Denver, Tyler Willich, Brogen Willich, Cooper Willich and Carson Willich and sister Vanita (Willich) Harlan Hunt of Meriden, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents.

After graduating from Horton High School in 1963, he moved to Topeka to attend Washburn University. During that period he married his high school sweetheart and received his BS in Secondary Education in 1967. He began his teaching career in Sabetha, Kansas but soon returned to Topeka where he taught and coached at Jardine Jr. High. During this period he commuted to Lawrence where he completed an MS Degree at the University of Kansas in Secondary Guidance and Counseling.

This led to Dodge City where he served as a school counselor in both the Jr. and Sr. High Schools, and then an Administrative Assistant at the Area Vocational/Technical School. During this time he picked up several more graduate hours through Fort Hays State University for administration licensing. Gene and his family moved to Hutchinson High School as an Assistant Principal then Wamego High School as Principal.

His final career move was back to Hutchinson High School to serve in the counseling office before retiring after 41 years in education. While at Hutch High Gene served as the public address announcer for many of the school's athletic events, but mostly for the football and basketball games for 20 years. During much of this time he also announced many of the 3A state basketball tournaments, as well as the National Men's Division 1 Community College Tournaments hosted by Hutchinson CC. Gene spent 15 years in prison ministry with the state prison system as a volunteer meeting with inmates who received few, if any, visitors. Like many retired educators, he continued to work part time for the Hutchinson Community College in their Testing Center and substitute teaching at Hutchinson High School.

But the greatest aspect of his adulthood was coming to know God and the salvation of life through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ His Son. Gene served as a teacher, elder and deacon in Dodge City and Hutchinson.

God granted Gene many years to serve and guide Him. Gene particularly appreciated a message by a well know theologian, Max Lucado, who explained life with this thought.

Services will be held at University Christian Church, 2800 Claflin Rd. Manhattan, KS. on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 1&nbsp; p.m.&nbsp; Memorials can be made to University Christian Church, Manhattan Christian College, or Bramlage House-Meadowlark Retirement Community.

Earl Eugene (Gene) Willich

George Alan Tooley passed away peacefully in his sleep in Greeley, Colorado on February 22, 2024, at the age of 92. &nbsp;

George was born on June 17, 1931, to George James and Mary Beatrice Tooley. &nbsp;George attended high school in Russell, KS and graduated from Hill City, KS high school in 1950. &nbsp;George’s parents later moved to Great Bend, KS where George considered home. &nbsp;Upon graduation, George joined the United States Air Force on August 15, 1950, and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas Nevada and Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage Alaska. During his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal. &nbsp;George was honorably discharged on August 14, 1954.&nbsp;

George was introduced to Joyce Marie Murphy by his Dad and the two were united in marriage on April 8th, 1961. &nbsp;Their first born, Chris was born in Farmington, NM. &nbsp;Daughter Kayleen was born two years later in Garden City, KS and one year later daughter Kara was born in Liberal, KS. George and Joyce lived in Liberal until building Joyce’s dream home with a mountain view in Greeley, CO in 2003. George and Joyce moved to Wamego KS in November, 2017. &nbsp;George worked selling life insurance and mutual funds for Jayhawk National Life and Ozark National Life for many years until becoming an independent financial advisor. &nbsp;

A devout Catholic all his life, George was a member of St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Liberal, St Peter’s Catholic Church in Greeley and St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego. George’s business took him and Joyce to many places throughout the world in their almost 62 years of marriage. George’s most beloved hobbies, however, were watching football and the business channel to keep up on the stock market and how his stocks were fairing. &nbsp;George was a kind and friendly man, a gentle Dad and a devoted husband. &nbsp;He loved the Rat Pack and listening to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. &nbsp;He would, on occasion, boast that he played a hand or two of blackjack next to Dean Martin in Las Vegas. &nbsp;

Survivors include his daughters, Kayleen Hernandez and husband, Stan, Loveland, CO, and Kara Burton and her husband Mike, Wamego, KS; Daughter in law, Leah Tooley, Yukon, OK;&nbsp; Grandchildren Brianna Tooley, Portland, OR, Brett Tooley (Naomi) Windsor, CO, Kylee Millman, Costa Mesa, CA, Shayla McDonough and her husband Neil, Fort Collins, CO, Seth Holle, Wamego, KS, Ethan Holle, Wamego, KS and Great-Grandchildren, Ambrie and Myah Greeley, CO.&nbsp;

George was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Jay, his wife Joyce and his son, Chris Tooley.

A private Burial will be held at St Bernard Catholic Cemetery in Wamego with Fr. Michael Peterson officiating.&nbsp;

Vivian Jegen, 94 of Salina, formerly of Manchester passed away Monday, February 26, 2024. 

She was born March 30, 1929 in Manchester, the daughter of William and Ester (Chase) Gish. She graduated from Chapman High School in 1947. On March 12, 1950 she was united in marriage to John Jegen in Manchester. He preceded her in death January 13, 2005.&nbsp; Vivian grew up in Manchester and she spent all of her married life there until moving to Salina in 2005.

 She is survived by a son, Jonathan Jegen of Salina and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Graveside Services for Vivian will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Keystone Cemetery in Manchester.

Jane Elaine Lamb, age 68, of rural St. George, died February 26, 2024, at her residence.

She was born February 1, 1956, in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Millard and Leola (Bond) Murray.

Jane graduated from Lawrence High School and then earned her bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences from Kansas State University. On July 22, 1978, she was married to Steve Lamb.

She was a long-time 4-H leader for Bonfire 4-H, was the Riley County Goat Superintendent, and had the honor of being a Life Member of ADGA. She was a member of the St. George United Methodist Church. She provided daycare in her home and had a home cleaning business for several years. She also enjoyed all sports, especially her K-State Wildcats.

Jane loved her family and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. She was the loudest cheerleader at all of their events. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting weekly family nights for the whole family.

Steve survives of the home. Additional survivors include her three sons: Barry Lamb, his wife Samantha, Brian Lamb, and Jake Lamb, his wife Lacee; honorary daughter Kachina Gerber and her husband Brandon all of St. George; four siblings: Dennis Murray, Gary Murray, Kathy Hamilton and Jean Eberhart; and nine grandchildren: Logan and Skylar Lamb, Brooklynn, Paislee and McKenna Lamb, Bailee and Ethan Lamb, and Justin and Rylinn Gerber.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Mike Murray.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 4th at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Leslye Haller officiating. Private inurnment will be at a later date in the St. George Cemetery.

Clarence Hubert "Sonny" Ehm, Jr., 80, of Junction City, Kansas died on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Rossville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Rossville, Kansas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Father Kerry Ninemire officiating. The recitation of the rosary will take place at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. prior to the rosary. Cremation has taken place. A private burial will take place following the service at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Sonny was born on November 25, 1943 in Junction City, Kansas, the son of Clarence and Jeanne (Davin) Ehm. After graduating from St. Xavier High School in 1961, he served dutifully in the Kansas National Guard before embarking on a successful real estate career spanning over four decades in Geary County. His commitment to faith was evident through his active involvement in St. St. Xavier Catholic Church, alongside his lifelong memberships in the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #45.

On September 19, 1970, he married Linda Martin at St. Xavier Catholic Church. Second only to his beloved bride was Sonny's love of baseball. He played the sport throughout his youth and early adult years, eventually moving into coaching the American Legion Junior Blues and in other capacities for many years. Sonny incorporated baseball into his travels, making it to Fenway Park in Boston, Wrigley Field in Chicago, Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Yankee Stadium in its original glory, and the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife Linda of Junction City, Kansas; one son, Jon (Laura) Ehm of Kailua Kona, Hawaii; one daughter, Tiffany Ehm, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Finley and Erris Melvin; one sister, Karen Blanken of Topeka, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary "Christy" Wilhite.

Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Alzheimer's Association or to the organization of the donor's choice.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Clarence H. "Sonny" Ehm, Jr. 

John Anthony Grant, 92, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on February 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 15, 1931, to Richard Sr. and Mary (Krynest) Grant in Junction City, Kansas. He grew up with six siblings, three brothers and three sisters. While growing up, his mother and father made sure to teach the importance of family which he carried on throughout his life.&nbsp; John graduated from St. Xavier Catholic High School. He was involved in many activities and lettered in basketball. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in Korea. On February 5, 2003, he married his long time friend Maria Kolossa and they spent 21 years together.

John is survived by his loving wife, Maria; one daughter, Cindy (Mark) Schnitzlein of Ohio; one son, Mark of Ohio; one granddaughter, Athena (Joe) McConnell of Florida; four great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.He was preceded by his parents, six siblings, Richard Grant Jr., Katherine Northrop, Elizabeth Pierce, Margaret Erbe, George Grant, and James Grant and one great-grandson, Trenton McConnell.

John was a family man and always put God and family first. Family requests memorial contributions to go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Xavier Catholic Church.

John Anthony Grant

Lyle Dale Barker of Chapman Kansas, went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2024.

Lyle was born the 6th of 7 children on July 10, 1940, in Stilwell OK. He spent most of his childhood and teenage years in McPherson KS, where he was known as “Punch” by his family members. He graduated from Emporia State Teacher’s College where he met the love of his life, Trudy Seaton. They moved to California in 1964 where they were married and both started their teaching careers. Over the next several years, they started their family, moved to Colorado and then to St. Louis, where he worked for the Defense Mapping Agency as a cartographer. He was transferred to Washington D.C. in 1989 and finished his career there in 1996. 

After retirement, they moved back to Chapman to the farm. Lyle loved to fish with his children and grandchildren and will always be remembered for his “cat” like reflexes. He loved to play cards with his friends at the Senior Center and was known for “shooting the moon.” He served on the board of the Chapman Senior Center and was also a board member of the Chapman Lions Club. He was also an active member of Chapman Methodist Church.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Trudy (Seaton) Barker, a daughter Rachel Thrash (Thad), a son Gregory Barker (Lesa) and a son Bradley (Lea), seven grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, 2 brothers, Vernon and Bob and a sister, Peggy Brower. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Rose (Casebeer) Barker, and 3 brothers, Raymond, George and Gene.

Memorial Services for Lyle will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2024 at the Chapman First United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at the Rinehart Cemetery, rural Chapman. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel.

Kim Michelle Lake of Abilene, KS died February 22, 2024, from complications of Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis.

Kim was born on October 18, 1959, in Abilene, KS to Bernice (Barlow) Davis Abbott. Kim was adopted by Robert Davis and his loving family after the union of Robert and Bernice. Kim lived her entire life in Abilene, graduating from Abilene High School in 1977. Kim attended Cloud Community College. On July 19, 1980, Kim married James Ray Lake. Jim and Kim had two children, Jeremy Ryan Lake and Jessica Robin Lake. The couple were married for 43 years.

Kim worked for Duckwall ALCO for 34 years until its closing in 2015.&nbsp; In 2015, Kim started working remotely for Orscheln Farm and Home as a PC Technician. Kim made many lifelong friends while working. She medically retired on April 29, 2022. Kim enjoyed working in her flower garden, watching the Kansas City Chiefs with Jim’s grandma, Leona Stammeyer, listening to Elvis tunes, fishing at Milford Lake, spending time with her brothers and sisters and playing with her children and grandchildren. Kim and Jessica had grand adventures across the US; diamond mining, hot air ballooning, gambling in Las Vegas, shopping at the US’s largest mall, sampling teas at Celestial Seasonings, emerald and ruby mining in the Carolina’s, attending renaissance festivals, whitewater rafting, touring national parks, camping and horseback riding in the Colorado mountains, viewing movies, dinner theaters, Broadway plays, and zoo trips.

Kim is survived by husband Jim; daughter Jessica; three grandchildren; Brianna Lake , Kohen Luchsinger, and Bryce Dickerman and three great granddaughters; Lavaeh Burdine, Palmer and Aurora Moffith; siblings; Chris (Roxie) Davis of Salina KS, Lisa (Al) Wal of Chino Valley AZ, Curt (Lori) Davis of Delphos KS and Julie (Dean) Gier of Wichita KS; Mother-in-law Vivian Lake, sister-in-law Kimberly Lake, many loved family members, and Shaun the beloved family dog.Kim was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Allen Abbott; grandparents OC and Elma Barlow &amp; Darrell and Arlene Davis; son, Jeremy; brother, Mark A. Kaye Frances Eveleth (Murphy) 83 of Abilene, left her earthly life on February 22, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene.

 Kaye was born April 30, 1940 in Long Beach California to Warren and Melva (Fisher) Murphy. Kaye grew up in Dickinson County and attended Chapman High School graduating with the class of 1958.Kaye met her husband to be on a blind date and following graduation from high school John Alvin Eveleth and Kaye were married on October 26, 1958. To this union three sons were born. Warren Kent Eveleth, Terry Lee Eveleth, and Perry Dee Eveleth who died at birth.

Kaye was active in the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and served several times as Worthy Grand Martha. For over 40 years as a member of the Daughters of the Nile serving as Queen in 1994. Kaye and John were enjoyed traveling for the ISIS Shrine for many years. Kaye and John were members of Emanuel Church in Abilene. Kaye had worked for 17 years at Vacu-Blast, and 17 years at the Duckwall-Alco warehouse. She also filled in as receptionist and Waitress at Brown Memorial Home, and Frontier Estates as well as helping her son Kent at the Shamrock Cafe in Chapman.

Surviving Kaye are here sons, Warren “Kent” of Abilene and Terry Eveleth of McFarland, Kansas. Kaye was preceded in death by her parents and her husband John and Infant son Perry.

Memorial services for Kaye will be held Thursday February 29th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Danner Funeral Home 501 N. Buckeye. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.&nbsp; preceding the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow the service at the Abilene Cemetery.

Kelly Junius Peterson, 36, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on February 11, 2024. Born in Manhattan, Kansas, on June 15, 1987, Boogie was known for his sensitive nature and his love for cats. He cherished his friends and family deeply.

Kelly, a graduate of Manhattan High School, class of 2006, was an artist from a young age. His passion for drawing started with dinosaurs and evolved to include Batman, the Joker, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, manga, anime, and traditional comics. In high school, he founded an anime activity group that later became an official club, where he served as the first president. Comic conventions, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Pokémon, and karaoke were among his favorite pastimes.

Boogie is survived by his parents, Kyle and Penny Peterson, his sister and brother-in-law, Kira and David Cook, his uncle Kerry Peterson, aunt and uncle Kevin and Kay Peterson, aunt Jennifer Smith Harvey, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Walter and Doris Peterson, maternal grandparents Emmett Sr and Marilyn Engstrom, maternal grandmother Judy Smith, and uncles Emmett 'Cass' Engstrom Jr and Kirk Peterson.

A visitation is scheduled for March 2nd, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Miratsky Memorial Parkview, 1317 Poyntz Ave, Manhattan, KS. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Boogie will be dearly missed by all who knew him, as his artistic talent and kind heart left a lasting impact on those around him. May he rest in peace.

Dan Cravens, age 78, of Westmoreland, died February 18, 2024, in Topeka, KS.

He was born in Westmoreland, KS, on July 25, 1945, the son of William Harvey Cravens and Catherine Muller.

 </figure>Dan Cravens, age 78, of Westmoreland, died February 18, 2024, in Topeka, KS.He was born in Westmoreland, KS, on July 25, 1945, the son of William Harvey Cravens and Catherine Muller.Dan enjoyed fishing and playing pitch; he especially loved horses and rodeos.Dan is survived by his nephews, Ray and JW, nieces Vicky, Barbra, Lisa,&nbsp; Angie, Jamie, Brenda, and several great nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jim Cravens, sisters Alice Thomas and Catherine Allen, and nephew David.A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home, 4370 Salzer Rd. Wamego, KS 66547. &nbsp;Inurnment will be held at the Westmoreland City Cemetery following the service.
