Lois M. Zubrod, 84, of Milford, Kansas, passed away on December 10, 2023, at Chapman Valley Manor surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on November 24, 1939, to Vernie and Lela Parrott (McClam) in Florence County, South Carolina. She graduated in Lake City High School in 1958. After graduation, she worked at the South Carolina Health and Environmental Services with both her sisters, Margaret and Hazel. While working in the department, she met the love of her life, Leroy Zubrod. They married on May 7, 1960, in Columbia, South Carolina. They enjoyed 56 years together until his passing in 2016.

Being a military spouse, she had the opportunity to travel the country with her husband and children. After leaving New Jersey in 1979, she found work on Fort Riley as a receptionist for the radiology department in the Irwin Army Hospital for many years until her retirement. Lois had an excellent green thumb, some of her favorites were petunias, begonias, and roses. Always making sure to have her home well grown with live greenery. Besides the floral scents of her garden, her Southern cooking aromas also had a special place in her home. 

Christmas dinners were always a treat for her large family. They will remember them fondly. She is survived by her son, Robert (Diana) Zubrod of Arlington, Texas; daughter, Bonnie (Barry) Kluesner of Junction City, Kansas; one sister, Hazel (Ronnie) McCall of Lexington, South Carolina; three grandsons, Daniel Whitebread, Levi Whitebread, and Ryan Zubrod; one granddaughter, Angela Hamilton and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her loving husband Leroy; one sister, Margaret; one brother, Jackie and her mother and father.

Lois's family will always remember her as a sweet soft spoken Southern Belle. Donald William Hunt, 81, of Wamego, Kansas, formerly of Peoria, Illinois, passed away on Sunday (December 3, 2023) at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Born December 11, 1941 in Peoria, Illinois, Don was the son of Isaac William and Anna Mae (Helms) Hunt.&nbsp; He married Darlene Kay Butler on April 8, 1961 in Peoria. She survives.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Don was of the Baptist Faith.&nbsp; He enjoyed leather work and was an accomplished builder and carpenter, Don built two of their family homes and made the cabinets for them.&nbsp; He enjoyed customizing cars and was proud of his 1951 Mercury.&nbsp; He and Darlene were members of car clubs, including Lincoln Land Kustoms and enjoyed traveling to car shows.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Don was employed for 46 years as a shipper with Keystone Steel &amp; Wire until his retirement.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Survivors include his wife, Darlene; a daughter, Donita Wagenschutz (Stephen); a daughter in law, Carol Hunt of Wamego, KS; five grandchildren, Kyle Wagenschutz, Kent Wagenschutz (Nikki), Kurt Wagenschutz, Kyle Morgan and Dustin Morgan (Megan); seven great grandchildren, Ethan, Adelyn and Wren Wagenschutz and Pemberly, Ava, Clara and Liam Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Daniel William Hunt.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.

Jean Brecheisen passed away peacefully on December 7th, with her family by her side. &nbsp;

She was born to Delbert and Olive Vinton on June 4th, 1929.&nbsp;Jean was raised on a farm near Melvern, Kansas. She had three older sisters, Idelle, Edith, and Wilma. 

Jean was married to her life long partner Max Brecheisen on October 30th, 1949. They were married nearly 70 years. 

For twenty years, she was a Marine Corp spouse. They had three sons together. Jerry, Neal and Mark. After military service, she worked with her husband in starting his career with Radio Shack. 

Upon retirement, they built a home on the farmstead where Jean grew up. They raised polled hereford cattle on their M&amp;J farm. They retired from the farm in 2000 and moved to Manhattan, Ks.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband Max, son Neal, and her three sisters. Survivors include sons Jerry (Maria ) and Mark (Judy) and grandchildren Stephanie Brecheisen, Chris Brecheisen, Jessica Birmingham, Jacob Brecheisen, Lucas Brecheisen, Katie Brecheisen, Amy Brecheisen and 16 great grandchildren. 

Funeral Services will be on December 13th at 11:00 am. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10:30 am at Irvin Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan, Ks.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Ernest Edwin (Ernie) Wilkins passed away at Stormont Vail Flint Hills Hospital, in Junction City Kansas, on November 29, 2023. Ernie was born March 17, 1927 in rural Chapman, Kansas to Bertram and Frances Irene (Sims) Wilkins. 

Ernie attended local schools but was drafted into the U.S. Army his senior year of high School. Ernie served in the pacific theatre during WWII. He served in China, Korea and the Philippines. Upon his return to Kansas Ernie continued his education and graduated from Kansas College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, now Kansas State University, with a bachelor’s degree in Organic Chemistry. Following his graduation he began a long career with the Kansas Department of Transportation. He was proud to be involved with the very early stages of the construction of I-70 in Kansas. He was a skilled Artisan in the making of Stained-Glass pieces of art. Ernie was also a Scout Leader for his sons and loved to travel. He’s been a devout Methodist and has taught Sunday School and the Alpha course in the past.

Ernie married Lillian (Carlson) Weik, to this union two sons were born. Larry E. Wilkins of Gardner, Kansas and James D Wilkins (Donna) of Manhattan, Kansas. Ernie is survived by his sons, and his grandchildren Donovan Weik, Michael Allen and Jason Allen. Ernie also has 4 great grandchildren. Ernie was preceded in death by his wife Lillian, and his second wife Delores Kay (Olson) Wilkins. Also preceding Ernie in death were his brothers Gaylord Wilkins and Howard Wilkins as well as his sister Frances Hill, and sons Richard and Charles Weik and daughter Cheryl Weik. Ernie’s Grandfather and Uncle were some of the first settlers in the Chapman area, in 1870. They emigrated from Marnhull England and were Stonemasons by trade.

A memorial service will be held Saturday December 2, 2023 at the Chapman United Methodist Church 426 N. &nbsp;Kelta Louise Cooper (Tracy), a resident of Village Manor of Abilene, KS passed away November 25, 2023 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita Kansas. 

Kelta was born March 10, 1935, in Worthington, Ohio. Her parents were Edwin Leroy and Kathryn Adeline Rush Tracy.&nbsp; Kelta graduated from Columbus High School Class of 1953. She married James Smith Cooper on October 24, 1953 and moved to Chapman, Kansas area that same year. 

Kelta was a homemaker and a cake decorator. She decorated numerous wedding, birthday and special event cakes. She also had worked at Dairy Queen in Junction City and made the famous Ice Cream cakes. Kelta was a wonderful wife and a loving and caring mother to her children.&nbsp; Kelta loved to fish and garden and dance. She loved to sing Christian songs with her grandchildren at churches and nursing homes.

She is survived by her daughters Kathryn Mary Norton of Junction City, KS, Connie Sue Krier, Chapman, KS, Vicki Lynn Welsh of Chapman, KS and Twyla Kay LaRocca (Vince) of Chapman, KS Kelta is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Husband James Smith Cooper, her parents and a brother Edwin Leroy Tracy Jr., One son James L. Cooper a granddaughter Maggie Price, and a grandson Levi Norton.

&nbsp;Leona Ruth Blodgett passed away November 20, 2023 at her home in Detroit. She was born December 12, 1935 in Enterprise the daughter of Arthur and Grace (Picking) Peterson. Leona married Omer Lee “Hank” Blodgett on November 21, 1960.Leona is survived by two sisters, Mary Bever of Florida, Teena Krause of Hutchinson, her sons James (Rhonda) Blodgett of Wichita, Ronald (Kandra) Blodgett of College Station, Texas, seven grandchildren Chad Anderson of Salina, Erica (Freddie) Hurt of Junction City, Nicky (Mike) Harder of Salina, Heather (Brian) Slater of Salina, Monica Harder of Auburn, Christine Blodgett of Detroit, Michael Blodgett of College Station, Texas, twenty grandchildren and fifteen great great grandchildren.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband Omer, sons David Blodgett, Michael Blodgett, sisters Beverly Krisher, Connie Amburgey, and her parents .Leona graduated from Enterprise High School. After high school, she moved to Denver and worked as a model for a while. She moved back to Kansas and started a career in finance with the civil service. This job took her from Salina to Austin, Texas and back to Salina. After Schilling Sir Force Base shut down, she transferred to Fort Riley. She was the Chief of Military Pay, Finance Department when she retired after thirty plus years. 

After retirement, she began to travel and helping Omer in the moving business which took them all over the United States. They built a house in Detroit and resided there from 1970 until she passed. Before Leona started to travel, her favorite past time was bowling. She was on several leagues and enjoyed traveling to tournaments around the country. Leona always enjoyed a house full of family and friends (the more the merrier), she believed in an open door policy. She liked spending her time watching her family in their activities. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. Her final resting place will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery near Enterprise. Family and friends are welcome to the visitation on Friday evening from 5:00 – 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

Leonna Ruth Blodgett

&nbsp;Sue Ann (Atkinson) Zeller, 61, passed away November 18, 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene.Sue was born August 8, 1962 to Allen "Lee" and Joan (Reiff) Atkinson in Abilene, KS. She was the youngest of five children. Sue graduated from Abilene High School in 1980. She was married to John Zeller on September 23, 1989 and they were blessed with two daughters: August and Alexa. They raised their family in Clay Center, KS.

Sue's work history included&nbsp;working in payroll at Hutchinson-Mayrath (17 years), C&amp;R Credit Union, and Scott Specialties, all in Clay Center. She then moved back to Abilene and worked at West's Country Mart until her retirement. Sue was an avid reader and loved to sew and make quilts for her family.&nbsp;Sue is survived by John Zeller of Morganville, daughter August Zeller (Michael Clark) of Clay Center, daughter Alexa Zeller (Joel Shuler) of Salina, her mother Joan Atkinson of Chapman, brother Rod Atkinson (Connie) of Abilene, brother Mark Atkinson of Panama, brother in law Bill Gillespie of Abilene, her eight grandchildren: Paxton, Aeryn, Anders, Macy, Adrian, Etta, Ada, and Miles as well as many family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Lee Atkinson, brother C.J. Atkinson, and sister Cindy Gillespie.&nbsp;

A memorial service will be held&nbsp;Friday December 8, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home with Mr. Kelly Cooper officiating. The family has selected cremation and a private family burial will take place at a later date. &nbsp;Sue Ann (Atkinson) Zeller, 61, passed away November 18, 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene.Sue was born August 8, 1962 to Allen "Lee" and Joan (Reiff) Atkinson in Abilene, KS. She was the youngest of five children. Sue graduated from Abilene High School in 1980. She was married to John Zeller on September 23, 1989 and they were blessed with two daughters: August and Alexa. They raised their family in Clay Center, KS.Sue's work history included&nbsp;working in payroll at Hutchinson-Mayrath (17 years), C&amp;R Credit Union, and Scott Specialties, all in Clay Center. She then moved back to Abilene and worked at West's Country Mart until her retirement. Sue was an avid reader and loved to sew and make quilts for her family.&nbsp;Sue is survived by John Zeller of Morganville, daughter August Zeller (Michael Clark) of Clay Center, daughter Alexa Zeller (Joel Shuler) of Salina, her mother Joan Atkinson of Chapman, brother Rod Atkinson (Connie) of Abilene, brother Mark Atkinson of Panama, brother in law Bill Gillespie of Abilene, her eight grandchildren: Paxton, Aeryn, Anders, Macy, Adrian, Etta, Ada, and Miles as well as many family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Lee Atkinson, brother C.J. Atkinson, and sister Cindy Gillespie.&nbsp;A memorial service will be held&nbsp;Friday December 8, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home with Mr. Kelly Cooper officiating. Debora Lynn McNew, age 63, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023, at her home in Manhattan, KS. She was born on July 29, 1960 in Ponca City, OK. She was the daughter of James and Iva (Tucker) McNew.

Deb graduated with bachelor’s degrees from Oklahoma State University and Kansas State University. She worked at CivicPlus in Manhattan, KS for the past 29 years. Deb began with CivicPlus as a trainer and consultant and worked with hundreds of municipalities all over the United States and Canada. Throughout her tenure, she served in many key roles including as General Manager of Citizen Engagement Solutions, as Vice President, and as a member of CivicPlus’ executive leadership team.

Deb loved to travel for both work and pleasure. She enjoyed driving around the country visiting historic towns, taking summer trips to see the Pacific Ocean, and even flying in a tiny plane to a remote Alaskan island. Deb enjoyed adventure and experiencing beautiful places.

She is survived by her life partner, Jimmie Elston Sr, Manhattan, KS; both parents, James and Iva McNew, Ponca City, OK; sister, Brenda McNew, Norman, OK; brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Mechelle McNew, Ponca City, OK; nieces, Kari Koch, Portland, OR, Sharii Warner and Amber McNew, of Norman, OK, and Katy Thomason, Ponca City, OK; and nephew, Justin McNew, Ponca City, OK; and her two beloved dogs, Bud and Babe.

Vicky Lucille Wahl, 67, of Flush, Kansas earned her wings on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the home of her son.

Born on Valentine’s Day, 1956, Vicky is the daughter of Chester H. and Opal L. (Reves) Smith of Blaine Kansas. &nbsp;

Entering the world on “the day of love” colored a life spent caring for others. After growing up on the family farm, Vicky graduated from Westmoreland High School, and attended nursing school in Topeka. She then returned home to begin her career caring for others at Dechairo Hospital in Westmoreland. From there she transitioned to pediatric nursing with Pediatric Associates in Manhattan. Vicky was gifted with children. It was not possible for her to go anywhere in Manhattan without being recognized as “Miss Vicky” from the doctor’s office. Her patients loved her, and she loved them. Despite being retired for years, Vicky never stopped being a nurse. It was more than a vocation; it was her identity. Whenever someone asked what she did, she never answered “I was a nurse.” &nbsp;Rather, she confidently stated, “I AM a nurse.”

Miss Vicky was the life of the party. &nbsp;Her warmth and giving nature were well known to those who knew her. No one was allowed to leave her home without some kind of treat, be it kettle corn, candy from the candy bowl, or some other confectionery delight. She enjoyed keeping her home decorated for the seasons and kept the “Christmas Room” perennially decorated for the season of giving. &nbsp;

The only thing that outpaced her love of others, was the love Vicky carried for her family and friends. &nbsp;When needed, Vicky retired from nursing to spend time with and help her mother, Opal. She was a constant source of love and support for her son. She loved sports, but mostly when that meant quite vocally cheering for her son or granddaughter Brooklyn. Brooklyn is perhaps the person who most emulates Miss Vicky. The two enjoyed sharing their joy for decorating, planning parties, and make believe. &nbsp;Their boundless imaginations only seemed to feed off one another. Grandma Vicky did everything with love and made everything more fun. Her whimsical spirit will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her son, Michael Heptig (Sara); granddaughter, Brooklyn Heptig; sister in law, Shelley “Smith” Wichman; nephews, Scott Smith (Courtney) and Shawn Smith (Kindra); and two nieces, Carrie Oswalt (Dustin) and Lesley White (Adam). &nbsp;Vicky was preceded in death by her parents; son in infancy, Matthew Heptig; and her brother, Wes Smith.

Larry Everett “Woody” Woodard, age 72 of Manhattan, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023, at his residence.

He was born on July 13, 1951, in Denver, Colorado, the son of Everett and Lydia (Wolfe) Woodard. &nbsp;He grew up in Goodland, Kansas and retired to University Park in 2017.

On May 4, 1974, he married Regina Nestor in Connecticut. &nbsp;She survives of the home.

Woody was a construction foreman for Woofter Construction in Colby and a jack of all trades. He could do electrical work, plumbing, concrete jobs and was an excellent wood craftsman. &nbsp;He raised German Shepherds and loved riding his Harley Davidson. He enjoyed music from the 60’s and 70’s, playing the harmonica and piano, watching and attending Nascar races, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife Regi of Manhattan; one son, Jesse Woodard and wife Danelle of Manhattan; two daughters, Lindsey Spanier and husband Justin of Northglenn, Colorado, and Lori Barnett and husband Mac of Dighton; one brother, Monte Woodard and wife Janet of Neptune Beach, Florida; one sister, Elsie Woodard of Parsons; nine grandchildren, Macey, Liam, Jace, Brendon, Kadrick, Mason, Michael, Matthew, and Makala, and one great grandchild, Judah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Brian Woodard, a niece, Londa Bedore, and a great nephew, Dylan Brown.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on December 30, 2023, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Barbara E. Christie, age 91, of Council Bluffs, passed away on November 25, 2023, at Hansen House Assisted Living in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Barb was born April 20, 1932, in Omaha, the daughter of Frederick J. and Doris (Rosch) Bucknam. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs in 1950, then from St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, as a registered X-Ray Technician. She married Robert P. “Bob” Christie on January 30, 1955, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Council Bluffs. He passed away in 1999.

Barb grew up in Council Bluffs and became world traveler when she married Bob. They lived in Germany and England while he was in the Air Force. After his retirement they returned to Council Bluffs. She ran her own business sewing and doing alterations, then working for the Pottawattamie County Treasurer’s office where she became a Deputy County Treasurer. After retirement her two passions were St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and the Pottawattamie County Genealogical Society. When she wasn’t busy at church or the PCGS, she kept her hands busy doing handcrafts, sewing, knitting, crochet, tatting, counted cross stitch and time with friends. There were many other things about Barb that could be written; her family hopes you are blessed by your memories of them.

Survivors include her two children: Mary Sue (Bob) White of Omaha and Rod (Melinda) Christie of Waterville, Kansas, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and by Aunt Betty and Aunt Carol.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an infant brother Fred Bucknam Jr.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 22 Dillman Drive in Council Bluffs. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Council Bluffs with a lunch following at the church.

Melinda Annette Hagenmaier, age 60, of Randolph, passed away Friday evening, November 24, 2023, at the KU Medical Center after a courageous three&nbsp;year long battle with colon cancer.

She was born on November 4,&nbsp;1963, the daughter of James &amp; Lucy (Parker) Wells, the youngest of nine children.&nbsp; She grew up in Kansas City, MO and finished her high school career in Minden, NE.&nbsp;

Melinda had worked for the United States Postal service for 11 years, most recently at the Clay Center office, where she enjoyed her co-workers and meeting and greeting her postal patrons.&nbsp; Melinda’s family meant everything to her, and she worked tirelessly showing her love to all of them.&nbsp; She was especially excited for the upcoming marriage of her son, Dakota and future daughter-in-law, Alexandria Capp and had recently hosted an engagement party for them.&nbsp; Melinda was surprised to have all her sisters show up to her house for an early 60th&nbsp;Birthday celebration to get her crown, which was passed down for each sister’s 60th&nbsp;Birthday.&nbsp; Melinda was very crafty, with Hobby Lobby being one of her favorite stops.&nbsp; She enjoyed decorating for the holidays, Christmas being her favorite, so she could display her large Santa collection.&nbsp; She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Nebraska Cornhusker football fan.&nbsp; She loved camping with family and her and Robbie had worked to renovate two campers, the first one lovingly known as “The Turd”.&nbsp; The second one she used as therapy to keep her mind busy while facing the daily challenges the cancer presented, which she met with strength and courage.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Hagenmaier of the home; two daughters, Kassie (Adam) Cote, &nbsp;and Khyla Nelson; one son Dakota Hagenmaier (Ali); her six grandchildren, Connor, Otto, Jocelyn, Aurora, Robyn and Oliver who were the light of her life; eight siblings, Judy (Jim) Runions, Gary (Sandy) Wells, Wayne (Judy) Wells, Diane (Gary) Currence, David (Brenda) Wells, Madonna (Bob) Bishop, Becky (Randy) Watson and Jimmy (Trish) Wells; two sisters-in-law, Lori (Jay) Anderson and Shelly (Marvin) Mugler; one brother-in-law, Dennis Hagenmaier and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, James &amp; Lucy Wells.&nbsp;

Melinda Annette Hagenmaier, age 60, of Randolph, passed away Friday evening, November 24, 2023, at the KU Medical Center after a courageous three&nbsp;year long battle with colon cancer.She was born on November 4,&nbsp;1963, the daughter of James &amp; Lucy (Parker) Wells, the youngest of nine children.&nbsp; She grew up in Kansas City, MO and finished her high school career in Minden, NE.&nbsp;Melinda had worked for the United States Postal service for 11 years, most recently at the Clay Center office, where she enjoyed her co-workers and meeting and greeting her postal patrons.&nbsp; Melinda’s family meant everything to her, and she worked tirelessly showing her love to all of them.&nbsp; She was especially excited for the upcoming marriage of her son, Dakota and future daughter-in-law, Alexandria Capp and had recently hosted an engagement party for them.&nbsp; Melinda was surprised to have all her sisters show up to her house for an early 60th&nbsp;Birthday celebration to get her crown, which was passed down for each sister’s 60th&nbsp;Birthday.&nbsp; Melinda was very crafty, with Hobby Lobby being one of her favorite stops.&nbsp; She enjoyed decorating for the holidays, Christmas being her favorite, so she could display her large Santa collection.&nbsp; She was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Nebraska Cornhusker football fan.&nbsp; She loved camping with family and her and Robbie had worked to renovate two campers, the first one lovingly known as “The Turd”.&nbsp; The second one she used as therapy to keep her mind busy while facing the daily challenges the cancer presented, which she met with strength and courage.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Hagenmaier of the home; two daughters, Kassie (Adam) Cote, &nbsp;and Khyla Nelson; one son Dakota Hagenmaier (Ali); her six grandchildren, Connor, Otto, Jocelyn, Aurora, Robyn and Oliver who were the light of her life; eight siblings, Judy (Jim) Runions, Gary (Sandy) Wells, Wayne (Judy) Wells, Diane (Gary) Currence, David (Brenda) Wells, Madonna (Bob) Bishop, Becky (Randy) Watson and Jimmy (Trish) Wells; two sisters-in-law, Lori (Jay) Anderson and Shelly (Marvin) Mugler; one brother-in-law, Dennis Hagenmaier and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, James &amp; Lucy Wells.&nbsp;Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on December 8, 2023, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.Memorial contributions may be made to the Nelson Family Community Foundation to assist with medical expenses for families in the community.&nbsp; Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.To order<a href="https://manage2.tukioswebsites.com/o/v2/trees/0a5d3ae0-5482-48e5-bc2b-6e9d2e38a528" target="_blank">memorial trees</a>&nbsp;or send flowers to the family in memory of Melinda Hagenmaier, please visit our&nbsp;<a href="https://manage2.tukioswebsites.com/orders/v2/flowers/0a5d3ae0-5482-48e5-bc2b-6e9d2e38a528" target="_blank">flower store</a>.

Wanda Elaine (Carter) Laflin 86, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2023, in her sleep at Prairie Sunset Home, Pretty Prairie, KS.&nbsp;

She was born in Clay Center, KS and later moved to Rushville, MO with her family. &nbsp;Wanda married William Laflin and moved to Nickerson, KS where she was a housewife and mother for many years, then worked as a security guard at Cessna, and as a travelling CNA.&nbsp;

Cenith Delane Cowing, 88, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023, at her family home in Clay Center, KS after a long battle with Parkinson’s dementia. Cenith was born on February 27, 1935, on the family farm near Lucas, KS, the last child of 10 children born to Everett and Myra Wood. She attended Downs High School. She met and married John Leonard (Bunky) Cowing. They made their home together in Clay Center for 71 years.

Cenith was a seamstress and homemaker while raising her family, later working at Presbyterian Manor as a cook before joining her husband and son in running Cowing’s Antiques in downtown Clay Center for many, many years. Cenith was also very involved in her church and women’s groups, teaching Sunday School and VBS for decades at Clay Center Christian Church.

Cenith was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved babysitting and doing things with her “grands”: Kathy’s Jeremy and Carrie, Robin’s Sarah and Jonathan, and Gina’s Nathan, Gabrielle and Micah. Her “greats” were also a tremendous joy and delight for her when they came along: Jeremy and Karla’s Emilee and Aiden, Carrie’s Gavin and Jt, Nathan and Nicole’s Emmett and Conrad. Nothing seemed to please her more than a baby to hold or a little one to entertain, even in her final months.&nbsp;

Throughout her life Cenith also especially enjoyed homemaking, sewing, reading, daily crosswords, Sunday drives, card parties, vacationing with family, making every holiday special, family reunions, anything to do with angels (especially guardian angel pictures with children), teaching children about Jesus, and any and every opportunity to spend time with family and friends.&nbsp;

Cenith was preceded in death by her parents, her son Sam, her half-siblings Pat, Mike, Evelyn and Pauline, brothers Doyle, Norris, Olin, Orin, Arven, and a sister, Carol Rogers.

Survivors include her husband John, brothers Loy Wood of KC, MO and Arden Wood of Weymouth, MA, sister Sally Cooper of Osborne, KS, daughters Kathy (Roy) Sweet of Clay Center, Robin Butterworth of Glenpool, OK, and Gina (Don) Burman of Lawrence, KS. She will also be dearly missed by grandchildren Jeremy and Karla Sweet of Clay Center, Carrie Alton of Clay Center, Sarah Butterworth of Glenpool, OK, Jonathan Stidman, Tulsa, OK, Nathan and Nicole Burman, KC, MO, Gabrielle Burman, Dallas, TX and Micah Burman, NYC, NY, her great-grandchildren Emilee, Aiden, Gavin, Jt, Emmett and Conrad, as well as countless other relatives and friends.&nbsp;

A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Clay Center Christian Church, 1021 Crawford St. This service will be immediately followed by a short graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, KS.

Frank Purling, Jr., 75 of Morganville, Kansas, died November 22, 2023 at the Midland Care Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born on August 7, 1948 in Clay Center, Kansas, the son of Frank Purling, Sr. and Darlene Mae Langley &nbsp;&nbsp;

Frank was raised in Clay Center and graduated with the Class of 1966 from CCCHS. &nbsp;He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam war. &nbsp;Frank returned to Clay Center and later moved to Manhattan, Kansas and worked in construction for many years. &nbsp;In the 1990’s, he moved to Colorado and started ranching. &nbsp;Frank returned to the Clay Center area and continued ranching. &nbsp;He was a member of Cowboys for Christ and a past member of the American Legion. As a veteran himself, Frank loved the United States and believed wholeheartedly in the promise of freedom. Led by his Christian faith in all aspects of life, Frank was honorable, generous, and kind. &nbsp;Frank loved country music; a good laugh; authentic company; fresh, open air; the sunrise, sunset and a good honest day's work in between. Frank loved animals, seeing them as a blessing and as companions. Frank's ability to understand and communicate with animals was a gift and, in this gift, he found his calling. Frank loved life and had the courage to live his life to its fullest. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Barb Wilson.

&nbsp;Rodney E. "Chip" Wolf, 70, of Junction City, Kansas died Monday, November 27, 2023 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

Rodney was born December 22, 1952, in Salina, Kansas the son of Earl R. and Mary (Weaver) Wolf. In 1953, he moved to White City, Kansas with his family. He attended school in White City. After his freshman year of school, he transferred to Chapman and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1970. He attended Flint Hills Technical College, Cloud County Community College and Kansas State University.

Rodney farmed many years in southern Geary County. While farming, he also worked as the city marshal in White City, Kansas. He later worked as an appraiser for Geary County. In 1988, he went to work for Foot Locker working his way into management. He retired in 2007. He worked as a reserve deputy for Geary County Sheriffs Department.

He married Connie Close August 20, 1987 in Junction City, Kansas. Survivors include his wife Connie of Junction City, Kansas; one son, Tony Wolf and his wife Sharon of Milford, Kansas; two daughters, Brandi Wolf of Milford, Kansas and Julie Bender and her husband Len of Chapman, Kansas; four grandsons, Cameron, Chance, Konner, and Tyler; one granddaughter, Courtney; two great-grandchildren, Josie and Kasen. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents.

Keith had many passions. He loved to fish and create many things. He was very talented at everything he did and he loved music.

Keith has two children, Matthew Volle of Topeka, Kansas and Cody Focht of St. Joseph, Missouri; also, his four grandchildren: Lilyanna, Zaci, Remington, and Brantley.

He was preceded in death by his parents Max and Norma Blasing, and his sister Letah Gerdes.

Keith Blasing

Frederick L. “Lee” O’Neill, of Manhattan, died Friday November 17, 2023 at the Collins House at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan. He was 98 years old.

He was born May 5, 1925 at home on the farm near Alma, Kansas, the son of Robert and Sarah (Crider) O’Neill, along with his two brothers and three sisters.

Lee attended area rural schools, graduating from Leonardville High School in 1943. He contracted polio immediately thereafter. It kept him from service in WWII and delayed his enrollment in college. After one year at Kansas State, he attended Pittsburg State, graduating in 1950 with a degree in business.

He worked for Western Auto until he was invited to serve in the Korean War. He was stationed at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado for two years, where he met and married Emma Loreta Martendale of Boise, Idaho. Their family eventually grew to include a son and two daughters.

After his military service, Lee worked for Standard Oil and General Foods, until enrolling at the University of Idaho to earn a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. He then worked in registrar, admissions, and research positions at the University of Idaho.

A plan for a one-year family travel by trailer was cut short when they settled in a remote area of British Columbia, Canada. Lee operated as a guide-outfitter for hunting and fishing, and he also had summer youth camps.

With his children getting older and marriage ending, the Canadian property and business were sold and Lee returned to Kansas. He was then married to Carol Faulconer Harris in 1985. He went to work as Assistant to the Graduate Dean at Kansas State University until his retirement in 1991.

Lee took pride in extensive floral and gardening, and caring for the birds, squirrels and calico cats. He enjoyed watching the KSU Wildcat Women’s Basketball Team. Lee loved to travel, especially between his Kansas and Canadian families’ and a tour of Ireland and Scotland in 1985. He was proud of his Irish heritage, which manifested in his love of singing, conversation, and storytelling - stories that often grew in the re-telling. He was an accomplished dancer. He and Carol met at a dance and dancing filled many hours of their life together.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mary Howard (Orville), Ella May Howard (Frank), and Violet Haffener; his brothers, Robert O’Neill (Kathleen), and Frank O’Neill (Coe); and his first wife Lorri O’Neill.

In British Columbia, Canada, Lee is survived by his son Michael O’Neill (Jill), daughter Linda O’Neill, daughter Nancy O’Neill (Max Sherwood); three grandchildren: Jesse (Michaela), David, and Danielle O’Neill; three great-grandchildren: Alexis, Violet, and Archer O’Neill.

He also leaves his wife Carol; and Carol’s children, daughter Laura Harris (Linda Curd), of Lexington, Kentucky, daughter Charlotte Harris, of Phoenix, Arizona, and son Steve Harris, of Kansas City, Missouri; and granddaughter, Jaedyn Harris, of Richmond, Missouri.

Lee’s “farewell party” will be held on Monday November 27, 2023. His wishes were to be cremated. Inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan, on the O’Neill gravesite. Celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the College Avenue United Methodist Church, 1609 College Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas, with Rev. John Collins officiating. A reception will follow the services at the church in the fellowship hall.

Lee was blessed to be in excellent and loving care at the Collins House at Meadowlark Hills through the last difficult years of his illness. Memorial contributions in memory of Lee may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Meadowlark Hills. Frederick L. “Lee” O’Neill, of Manhattan, died Friday November 17, 2023 at the Collins House at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan. He was 98 years old.He was born May 5, 1925 at home on the farm near Alma, Kansas, the son of Robert and Sarah (Crider) O’Neill, along with his two brothers and three sisters.Lee attended area rural schools, graduating from Leonardville High School in 1943. He contracted polio immediately thereafter. It kept him from service in WWII and delayed his enrollment in college. After one year at Kansas State, he attended Pittsburg State, graduating in 1950 with a degree in business.He worked for Western Auto until he was invited to serve in the Korean War. He was stationed at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado for two years, where he met and married Emma Loreta Martendale of Boise, Idaho. Their family eventually grew to include a son and two daughters.After his military service, Lee worked for Standard Oil and General Foods, until enrolling at the University of Idaho to earn a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. He then worked in registrar, admissions, and research positions at the University of Idaho.A plan for a one-year family travel by trailer was cut short when they settled in a remote area of British Columbia, Canada. Lee operated as a guide-outfitter for hunting and fishing, and he also had summer youth camps.With his children getting older and marriage ending, the Canadian property and business were sold and Lee returned to Kansas. He was then married to Carol Faulconer Harris in 1985. He went to work as Assistant to the Graduate Dean at Kansas State University until his retirement in 1991.Lee took pride in extensive floral and gardening, and caring for the birds, squirrels and calico cats. He enjoyed watching the KSU Wildcat Women’s Basketball Team. Lee loved to travel, especially between his Kansas and Canadian families’ and a tour of Ireland and Scotland in 1985. He was proud of his Irish heritage, which manifested in his love of singing, conversation, and storytelling - stories that often grew in the re-telling. He was an accomplished dancer. Dorothy Jean Zabel, 91, of rural Westmoreland, Kansas, died Sunday, November 26, 2023, at the Onaga Community Hospital. &nbsp;She was a life-long resident of the community.

Dorothy was born on January 17, 1932, in rural Onaga, the daughter of Walter F. and Hazel (Nightingale) Rollenhagen. &nbsp;She attended local grade school and graduated in 1950 from Westmoreland High School.

Dorothy married Eldon Carl Zabel in Wamego, Kansas, on January 20, 1951. &nbsp;He preceded her in death on September 6, 2016.

Dorothy was a dairy farmer. &nbsp;She and Eldon, side by side, owned and operated their family dairy operation northeast of Westmoreland. &nbsp;She also worked in the Pottawatomie County Clerk’s Office for over 15 years.

Dorothy loved her farm life, especially all the animals. &nbsp;She loved her cats and dogs, particularly collie dogs, and called each of her cows by name. &nbsp;She enjoyed growing a large garden and watching sports. &nbsp;She was a fan of Kansas State football and the Kansas City Chiefs, she also enjoyed the Kansas City Royals baseball games. &nbsp;Dorothy was a member of the Dairy Farmers of America (formerly Mid-American Dairymen) and St. Luke Lutheran Church.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Doug Zabel, Onaga, Allan Zabel and Mina Grutzmacher (Lance), both of Westmoreland; her grandchildren, Nicole Duggan (Ron), Lisa DeWeese (Ryan), Mitchel Grutzmacher (Heather), Gina Roberts (Ian), Marshal Zabel (Kelsey), Jarod Zabel (Sheila), and Audra Pendleton (Kenny), her sister Mary Mayer, Westmoreland; and nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. &nbsp;Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson, Tyler Zabel, her great-granddaughters, Mariah Walter, and Emma Grutzmacher, and her brothers, Donald Rollenhagen and Clinton Rollenhagen.

Earl Howard (Perky) Perkins Jr. passed away September 2, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Earl was born in Junction City on April 2, 1951 to Earl Sr. and Betty (Pitts) Perkins.

Earl was a man for all seasons and a passionate traveler. He grew up a military brat and his love for traveling grew with his service in the US Navy. 

A great athlete in his own right and an even better friend to all he celebrated life with. Earl graduated from Junction City High School in 1969 where he starred in football, basketball, and tennis and led JCHS to the 1969 state championship in football. Following his graduation, he played football at Independence Junior college and then joined the US Navy. 

Following his service in the Navy he settled in California where he played and coached tennis from 1976- 1990. His love for traveling led him to many stops along his journey where he finally settled in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Earl was known for his athleticism but also for his strong relationship with his teammates such as Denival and Jimmy Grant, Fred Starks and Les Chaves. He was known for his strong will and tenacious love for his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James O. Beasley and sister Kem L. Perkins. He is survived by his brothers: Moses White, Eugene Perkins, Larry (Diane) D. Perkins, Sr., and Richard (Nancy) Perkins and sister Beatrice K. Perkins; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Celebration of life service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the William L. Talbott VFW Post #8773 on 1215 S. Washington, Junction City Kansas and will be followed by a reception in his memory.

Cassandra (Cassie) Lee Beninga, age 47, of Topeka, Kansas passed away unexpectedly due to a medical condition on Monday, November 20, 2023, at her home in Topeka.

Cassie was born on August 2,&nbsp;1976, in Manhattan, Kansas, the beloved daughter of Steven Thomas and Sandra Sue (Schwab) Beninga.&nbsp;

Upon graduation from Shawnee Heights High School in Topeka, she enrolled in Emporia State University. &nbsp;After a year she decided that college was not for her. She had completed the required training to become a&nbsp;Certified Nurse Aid and was employed by a nursing home while in high school and&nbsp;decided the health care field was better suited and more interesting to her. &nbsp;She enrolled at Kaw Valley Vo-Tech (Washburn Institute of Technology) and received &nbsp;her Associates Degree as a Surgical Technologist and completed the requirements to become Nationally Registered. Cassie started her career at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka in the operating room as a Surgical Technologist and worked there for six years. She then had the opportunity to move to the new Tallgrass Surgery Center and remained employed there since its first day opening in 2002. During the time Cassie was employed there she continued to receive training and accolades as a Surgical Technologist and completed the training to be a &nbsp;Sterilization Specialist, meeting the requirements to be nationally registered as a Certified Central Service Technician (CCST). &nbsp;She was always trying to be better at her job and pursued&nbsp;continuing education, obtaining multiple other certifications.&nbsp;

When not working, she enjoyed family, her close group of friends, K-State football and basketball, and of course her cats, which she called her fur babies and were all rescues. She also shared the love for two dogs with her parents.&nbsp;

One of Cassie’s passions in life was to make sure every abandoned cat and dog had a place to live and was taken care of. &nbsp;She&nbsp;volunteered at Helping Hands Humane Society finding supplies for them and fostering kittens. There was only one failed foster kitten when she decided to adopt the kitten. She also volunteered on various community activities which included volunteering at Topeka Performing Art Center.&nbsp;

Cassie is survived by her parents, Steve and Sandra (Susie) of Topeka, Kansas; two brothers, Christopher Beninga and wife Melanie of Austin, Texas and Jason Beninga of Topeka; one niece McKenna Beninga of Austin, Texas; three nephews, Mason Beninga of Austin Texas, Braiden Beninga of Topeka and Brenner Beninga of Topeka. &nbsp;She loved her niece and nephews with all her heart and had special nicknames for each.&nbsp; She is also survived by her aunt, Peggy Grater and husband Ron of Leonardville,&nbsp;along with many cousins in Kansas and Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and two uncles.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan Avenue, Topeka, Kansas.&nbsp; Cremation will follow the funeral and a private family inurnment will be in the Riley Cemetery at a later date.

Cassie was always more comfortable in casual clothes wearing shorts or fashionable sweatpants and a sweatshirt or medical scrubs. She would want others to be comfortable as well and would not be offended by dressing casually or having something purple or Kansas State related worn. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;
