Donnalee Marcene Broadfoot passed away peacefully October 27, 2023 surrounded by family in her home in Weston, Missouri after a brief illness. Marcene was born Oct 18, 1927 to E. Gail and Erma Betts in Detroit, Kansas. She graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in 1945 and, after taking the civil service exam, she moved to Manhattan, Kansas. She worked in the Alumni Office at Kansas State University across the hall from the college president, Milton Eisenhower, who enjoyed frequent visits from his brother General Ike Eisenhower. 

In 1949 Leroy Broadfoot and Marcene were married and moved to Abilene, Kansas where they raised their two daughters, Carla and Cathy. Marcene worked in the county attorney’s office and a local bank. When her daughters were in grade school she continued her education, obtaining her undergraduate and masters degrees from Kansas State University. She taught English at Abilene High School and, upon retirement, served as sorority mother for Kappa Delta, Tri-Delt and ADPi houses at Kansas State University. In 1997 Marcene moved to Weston, Missouri to be near family where she enjoyed being a part of her daughter’s retail business and was an active member of the United Methodist Church. Throughout her life Marcene was an avid reader, gardener, exemplary seamstress and cook, and she enjoyed traveling throughout North America and visiting Europe. She was a devoted grandmother and a dedicated Wildcat fan. 

Marcene was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Broadfoot, her parents, and her sisters Leone Simpson and Sandra Reiff. She is survived by her daughter Carla (Bob) Miller, Big Rapids, Michigan; daughter Cathy Murdock, Weston, Missouri; granddaughter McKenna Murdock, Los Angeles, California; nieces Vicky Simpson Packard and Robin Reiff (Steve) Brace; and nephews Cary (Connie) Simpson and Terry (Angie) Reiff.

A visitation will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 4 at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene, Kansas, with services at 2 p.m.. Graveside services will be at Prairiedale Cemetery north of Talmage. Gordon Dale Strunk was born March 24, 1928, south of Abilene, Kansas. He was welcomed into God’s arms, passing away peacefully on October 27, 2023 at home in Talmage, Kansas. He spent his boyhood years in the New Basel community, attending rural schools and graduating from Abilene High School in 1946.Upon graduation, Gordon embarked on a lifetime of work centered around agriculture, such as farming and livestock feed sales. He was a talented motor grader operator and timber logger, skills he passed on to his sons and grandsons. He retired at age 85.&nbsp;

 After retirement, he enjoyed listening to the songbirds, watching baseball and rodeo on TV, sitting on the screened porch in the summer, near the wood stove in the winter, frequent visits with neighbors, and daily afternoon refreshments. Not much of a traveler, Dickinson County was his world. As long as he could see the prairie’s horizon, that was all the vacation he needed. If you knew Gordon, you heard him sing. He sang every single day! He had a song in his heart and an appropriate one for every occasion, usually old hymns, country western, or American standards. If a song came to mind, he sang it out!As Dad to seven, fatherhood came naturally to Gordon. He guided with advice like, “we’ll know more come 4th of July,” “nothing that a little Sunday School won’t cure”, “Pay Attention!”, and often, “Put a smile on your face!”.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Aaron and Ella, first wife Margaret, infant grandson Christopher Loftus, and his best friend and brother-in-law Delmar Curran. He is survived by DeAnne, his devoted wife of 54 years, his sister Rosella Curran, and his seven children: Kay Hoffman (Bob) of Hope, KS, Tim Strunk of Abilene KS, Max Strunk of Ft Lauderdale FL, Sue Krenger (Mike) of Oklahoma City, OK, Jan Sexton (Ted) of Abilene KS, Andy Strunk (Angie) of Abilene KS, and Sara Steppe (Dean) of Wakefield KS. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Although Gordon led a simple and modest life, his legacy is rich in kindness, rich in faith, and rich in love. A private graveside service is planned for the family. Christine Lynn “Chrissy” Swanson, age 43, of Manhattan, died October 26, 2023.

She was born January 21, 1980, in Manhattan, the daughter of David B. and Shella S. (Cooper) Surowski.

Chrissy graduated from Manhattan High School in 1998 and then earned her associate degree in nursing from Manhattan Area Technical College.

She worked as a property manager for Real Property Leaders.

Chrissy loved her dog Charlie, enjoyed collecting and polishing rocks and going for drives in her Jeep.

Survivors include her two children: Tristan Swanson and Caitlin Swanson of Manhattan; and two sisters: Katie Surowski and Laura Sapp both of Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.. Sunday, November 5th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Thomas Dean Soder, a devoted husband of 51 years, father, and grandfather, peacefully departed this world on October 25, 2023, in Kansas City, Kansas, at the age of 76.

He was born on December 10, 1946, in Junction City, Kansas, to his proud parents, Louis Soder Jr. and Francis McHugh. Tom's journey was marked by resilience, love, and unwavering commitment.

Tom's early years saw him graduate from Manhattan High School in Kansas before being drafted into the Army in 1966. Stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, he completed Basic and Advanced Individual Training. His service to his country as a combat heavy engineer took him to the airbase of Bien Hoa, Vietnam, where he served from 1968-1969 during the Tet Offensive. Following his Service in Vietnam he was honorably discharged and returned home to Kansas. His awards include the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Tom also qualified as an Expert Rifleman on his M-16 Rifle.

In 1970, Tom's heart found its match to Nancy Soder, and their love story blossomed into a lifelong union when they married at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in 1972.

Tom's legacy endures through his beloved family: his wife, Nancy Rae Soder (Hart) of Ogden, Kansas; his sons, Sean Thomas Soder of Topeka, Kansas, and Christopher Robert Soder of Waco, Texas; and his cherished granddaughter, Ariana Cheyenne Soder of Pensacola, Florida.

For four decades, Tom dedicated himself to the Big Red One at Fort Riley, Kansas, as a skilled woodworker before retiring in 2012. A true entrepreneur, he invested in multiple properties in and around Ogden. Tom's passion for hunting with his boys, appreciation for a good deal, and his knack for mischief, shared with his lifelong and best friend Sam Royer, brought joy to his life.

Dwayne A. Nichols, age 87, of Manhattan, died October 21, 2023, at the University of Kansas Health System – St. Francis Campus in Topeka.

He was born January 7, 1936, in Mankato, Kansas, the son of George A. and Marjorie (Kyle) Nichols, and had been a Manhattan resident for 65 years.

Dwayne served in the United States Navy for four years in active duty, and then 4 years in active reserves.

Following his military service he worked for Wilbert Vault Company, and then was a fireman for the City of Manhattan for four years, and then worked for Burr Electric for several years prior to owning and operating Burr Electric for many years.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

On January 13, 1956, in Bremerton, Washington, he was married to Karen I. “Jackie” Boldt. Jackie survives of the home. Additional survivors include three children: Marcus Allen Nichols, of Manhattan, Melissa Elaine Zeller of Abilene, KS and Shanda Ann White of Manhattan; brothers and sisters: Burton Nichols of Marian, TX, Franklin Nichols of Cedar City, UT, Byron Nichols of Universal City, TX, and Margaret Elaine Nichols of Marian, TX; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, his friend and longtime caregiver Debi Plummer and her daughter Susie Oliveria; and he was loved by 11 nieces and eight nephews.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents; one son Jonathan George Nichols and by two sisters: Barbara Nolf and Kathy Lewis.

Private family graveside service were held at Carnahan Creek Cemetery with Pastor Mark Roberts officiating.

Lois “Jean” Margaret Breymeyer

Alfred J. (Al) Eichman, 92, Wamego, passed away on October 25, 2023.

Al was born on September 14, 1931, in Wamego, KS, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Schluterman) Eichman. He graduated from Wamego High School in 1949.

He served in the US Navy Seabees during the Korean War conflict from 1951 to 1955, serving in North Africa, Newfoundland, and Cuba.

After his military service, Al joined his father, Henry, and brother, Ike, in the Wamego Sand Co. business, founded by his father in 1927. After growing the business over a period of decades, it is now known as Midwest Concrete Materials (MCM) and continues today as a 4th generation family-owned business.

Al was a Life Scout, a member of Knights of Columbus 1370, and the American Legion Post No. 0172. He served as a director for Kaw Valley State Bank (42 years) and Wamego Telecommunications Co. (40 years), including a capacity as a past Chairman and Vice President. Al was also a director for the KS Chamber of Commerce and KS Ready Mix Concrete Association. He served for several years on the Wamego Volunteer Fire Department and was a life-long member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego.

Al married Margaret (Peggy) Torrey on November 26, 1955, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego, KS. They were married for 50 years, and she preceded him in death in 2006. Survivors include daughter, Melissa, his partner, Kate Coddington, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his brother, Wilfred (Ike) Eichman, sister Marie (Eichman) Broxterman, and sister, Stella (Eichman) Cazier.

Al was generous, kind, and funny - always willing to share a good joke or pull an ornery prank. He loved spending time with his family, including their two dogs, Lassie, and Melon, and numerous granddogs. He enjoyed fishing outings with close friends as well as having a few cold ones on the golf course. He treated his family to many wonderful travel adventures, but the highlight for everyone was a surprise trip to Paris for his wife, Peggy, in 1998. His love and devotion to his family will remain in our hearts forever.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego. He graduated from Wamego High School in 1949.He served in the US Navy Seabees during the Korean War conflict from 1951 to 1955, serving in North Africa, Newfoundland, and Cuba.After his military service, Al joined his father, Henry, and brother, Ike, in the Wamego Sand Co. business, founded by his father in 1927. After growing the business over a period of decades, it is now known as Midwest Concrete Materials (MCM) and continues today as a 4th generation family-owned business.Al was a Life Scout, a member of Knights of Columbus 1370, and the American Legion Post No. 0172. He served as a director for Kaw Valley State Bank (42 years) and Wamego Telecommunications Co. (40 years), including a capacity as a past Chairman and Vice President. Al was also a director for the KS Chamber of Commerce and KS Ready Mix Concrete Association. He served for several years on the Wamego Volunteer Fire Department and was a life-long member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego.Al married Margaret (Peggy) Torrey on November 26, 1955, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego, KS. They were married for 50 years, and she preceded him in death in 2006. Survivors include daughter, Melissa, his partner, Kate Coddington, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Herbert R. Mudd, 65, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on October 24, 2023, at Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, Kansas. His family will bring him closer to his parents in Kansas City. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date.

Herbert was born on November 4, 1957, to Herbert and Rose Mary (Brown) Mudd in Junction City, Kansas. He attended St. Xavier's High School and was on their football team for a year. After his high school years, he went to a trade school in Indiana for his master auto-mechanic license. He found a life long career at Jim Clark's Chevrolet, where he was an active employee for 30 years. Herbert was an all around sports fan from football to Nascar to battle bots. He enjoyed sharing these hobbies with his family and friends and always made them interested too. He was a private person in character, however, he still made time to keep in touch with the ones he cared about.

He is survived by his four sisters, Pam Rethman, Carol Hines, Pat Fredlund, and Chris Judd; one brother, Phillip.

Carolyn Kay (Jarrett) Beggs, Crest Hill, Illinois, and formerly of Chapman, Kansas, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, Illinois, after a brief battle with cancer. She was 85.

She was born October 23, 1938, in Allen, Oklahoma, to Roy D. and Desmer (Payne) Jarrett. She attended school there and graduated from Allen High School with the Class of 1956.Following high school, she attended Hill’s Business University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she received secretarial training.On&nbsp; September 23, 1961, she married Robert W. “Bob” Beggs. This union produced a son, Robert Bruce Beggs, in 1964. The family moved to Chapman, Kansas, in 1966, where Carolyn remained until relocating to Illinois in 2021; her husband preceded her in death in 2008.While a homemaker, Carolyn also worked many years as a U.S. Civil Service secretary and office assistant at Fort Riley, Kansas, near Chapman. She retired in 1995.

Carolyn enjoyed following her son’s and grandchildren’s school activities. She was a lover of nature, particularly birds. And she could often be found rooting for Kansas State University athletics and the Kansas City professional teams.

 Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and by her older brother, R.D. Jarrett. Survivors include her son, Bruce Beggs (and wife Sandy); a granddaughter, Bethany (Beggs) Ortiz; a grandson, Kelley Beggs; and other relatives and friends.

The family has chosen cremation. A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. ., Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Indian Hill Cemetery in Chapman. Donald Lee Mendonca passed away peacefully on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 5:45 pm at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, KS.

Don was born February 2, 1950 in Sacramento, California. He spent most of his life there until he joined the US Army after graduating high school.

The army brought him all over the states but his permanent station landed him in Fort Riley, KS. After leaving the army, Don remained in the Manhattan area where his love for cars took over! Anything fast and furious called his name!

It was during this time when he made lifelong friends with an amazing couple, Roxie Austin Hawkins and Kirby Hawkins. Kirby shared Don's enthusiasm for life which always included hunting and, of course, cars!

Don spent a few years back in California but ultimately ended up back in the Manhattan, KS area where he reignited his long-lost love with his life partner, Debbie Boller. After that reunion, the couple were inseparable, spending their time with family, friends and going to garage sales. Don also took great pride in his model car collection and his Hot Wheels collection he was building.

Don and Debbie, however, shared their lives with their most proud accomplishment, their son, Donald Lee.

Don was a family-oriented guy whose passion was his family first and cars a very close second. Anyone who knew Don could tell you all about either of them. His time with others was spent talking about all of his passions.

Don is survived by his life partner, Debbie Boller; their little puppy, Mia; their son, Donald (Shawna) Boller; 2 daughters, Val (Dustin) and Leah (Alan). He is also survived by his sister who resides in California. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and even 5 great grandchildren! He was proceeded in death by his parents.

His wishes were to be cremated, there will be a celebration of life for Don at a later date, so everyone who knew and loved him can be together to share the crazy stories of Don's dedication to his family and cars and everything in between! More information to come later!

Durango, DGO, Méx.- Antonia Santacruz Bugarin, 75, died on October 15, 2023 in Manhattan, Kansas, in the presence of her family.

She was born on January 13, 1948 in Atolinga, Zacatecas, daughter of Manuel Santa Cruz R. and Micaela Bugarin R. She lived a long time in Durango, DGO, Méx., She had a beautiful soul.

Antonia was of the Catholic faith and attended church regularly. Antonia was an animal lover. She also enjoyed spending quality time with family, playing cards, and gardening.

In May 1968 she married Antonio López Simental in Atolinga, Zacatecas. In 1969 they moved together to the city of Durango, DGO, Mexico, where they both settled and had 10 children. She was very loved and cared for by all of her family, neighbors and friends. We are going to miss her enormously.

She is survived by Antonia's 3 brothers and 2 sisters, Salvador S., Jalisco, Mexico. Maclovia S., San Antonio, TX. Onísimo S., Iduvina S., Emilio S., all 3 residing in Atolinga, Zacatecas. 9 of her children -Isidro, San Antonio, TX. J. Humberto (Claudia R.), J. Isabel (Brenda M.) J. Alfredo (Alejandra V.), Miguel Angel (Dora V.), Víctor Ubaldo (Cristina R.), all residents of Dodge City, KS. Tonia María, Jetmore KS, María Martina, Velia Margarita, Durango, DGO, Mexico. And 37 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, Carlos Santa Cruz and Ramiro Santa Cruz, her son Manuel de Jesús and her grandson Christian López.

Matthew Adam Stevenson Sr. of St. George, KS, age 42, passed away on October 24, 2023, at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka, KS, surrounded by his family.

Matthew was born May 22, 1981, the son of Donald and Karen (Otte) Stevenson. He attended Salina High School. He was a long-time resident of St. George, KS, and worked as a lube technician at Max Motors.

&nbsp;On February 21, 2003, he married Daisy Cook at Sedalia Church; she survives of the home. Together, they were blessed with four sons.

Matthew was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan; he enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He had a smile that was contagious and could make anyone laugh with his witty humor. He lived for an adrenaline rush with roller coasters, casinos, dirt bikes, and fireworks. He loved music, especially rap and hip-hop, and could name most songs from the early 80s up until the current times. Most of all, he loved his family and creating memories. &nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Daisy Stevenson; sons Matthew Stevenson Jr., Chance Stevenson, Dominic Stevenson, and Tyler Stevenson; Brother, Chris Stevenson; Father-in-Law, Dan Cook and Mother-in-Law, Patty Cook; Brothers-in-law, Tim (Tori) Cook and Danny (Becky) Cook, nieces and nephews, Danny, Corena Toby, Andrea, Alexis, Abigail, Cayson, Drake, Tristan, Gideon, and Honoria; many cousins and loving friends.

Gerald Dee “Jerry” Lichtenhan, 82, of Wamego, Kansas, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the Wamego Health Center. &nbsp;He was a long-time and active member of the community.

Jerry was born September 12,1941 in Wamego, Kansas, the son of David John and Dorothy Amelia (Holuba) Lichtenhan. He attended local schools including St. Bernard Elementary School and Wamego High School. He attended Emporia State University and earned a bachelor's degree in business. He began his career with the F.W. Woolworth Company, managing several different stores across the country. He served six years in the Army Reserves and National Guard. Jerry came home to Wamego in 1977 and used his retail management skills to own and operate Lichtenhan Hardware, the family's long-time business. The community knew when they came to the store they would be greeted by Jerry and receive personal service from him and the staff.

Jerry was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. There he served on the Parish Council, served as Capital Campaign Co-Manager for the Building Committee and was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Lion's Club and Chamber of Commerce. He was a Kansas State football fan and enjoyed reading. His passion was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and serving his community in the hardware store.

Jerry married Mary Suzanne Vice on March 13, 1971. &nbsp;After fifty-two years sharing their lives and working together, Suzanne survives at their home.

Jerry is also survived by his children; Shanel Cole (Mike), Wamego, Tiffany Hueser (Dan), Wells, and Jeffrey Lichtenhan, Tampa, Florida; and his five grandchildren, Austin Waters, Parker Waters, Emma Hueser, Gabriel Hueser, and Victoria Hueser. &nbsp;He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Lichtenhan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, October 30, 2023, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego, Kansas. &nbsp;Father Mike Peterson will be the Celebrant. &nbsp;Burial will follow in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. &nbsp;Jerry will lie-in-state on Sunday, October 29th, beginning at 3:00 pm with a Rosary being held at 5:00 pm, followed by a visitation until 7:00 pm at Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home. &nbsp;The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Bernard Catholic Church, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.&nbsp;

Allen Oltjenbruns, 64, of Junction City, passed away on October 22, 2023, at Stormont Vail - Flint Hills Campus.&nbsp; A graveside service will take place at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery Monday, October 30, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with military honors.

Allen was born on November 8, 1958, to Willard and Daisy (Hogsett) Oltjenbruns in Holyoke, Colorado.&nbsp; After high school, he decided to enlist into the U.S. Army as Heavy Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic and served honorably for 13 years. While having dinner in a shared unit mess hall, he met his future wife over a plate of spaghetti. After serving in the Army, he spent 30 years as a railroad mechanic in Junction City, then transitioned into a civilian contractor working on military vehicles. Allen felt right at home working with his military brothers again. Harley Davidsons and Nascar were Allen's favorite past times. He enjoyed sharing these hobbies with his family.

Allen is survived by his wife, Linda; one son, Christopher (Vicky); one brother, Lester (Denice), and a host of other loving family and friends. He was preceded in life by his parents.

Allen Oltjenbruns

Shirley Morganfield, age 89, of Manhattan, died October 21, 2023.

Shirley was born in Lyons, Kansas in 1933. The family moved to Junction City, Kansas when she was very young. After graduating from Junction City High School in 1951, she attended both Kansas State University and The University of Colorado in Boulder. Her time in Boulder included more time learning how to snow ski than studying, but also sparked a lifelong dream to live in the Rocky Mountains.

In 1956, she began her career traveling the world when she accepted a position with Continental Airlines as a flight attendant. These were the glory days of commercial flight and she loved her adventures that took her to Hong Kong, Tokyo, Europe, Hawaii and everywhere in between. She spent time based out of Denver, Miami, El Paso and ultimately Los Angeles. She developed lifelong relationships during her time flying and has remained good friends with many of her “flying days” friends/roommates over the years, however this group has gotten smaller and smaller as the years go by.

Her son Kevin was born in 1963, while she was based in Los Angeles. Within the next year she moved back to Kansas and worked at various jobs over the years including real estate and as a civilian employee at Fort Riley. Shirley was also committed to going back to school and received her Master’s Degree in 1975 from Kansas State University with a degree in Early Childhood Development. She moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota in 1976 where she worked as a counselor at the Box Elder Job Corps Center in Nemo, South Dakota until her retirement in 1994.

Retirement was spent in Colorado, living in Highlands Ranch, Littleton and ultimately Estes Park, Colorado where she built her dream home in the Rocky Mountains. Health issues prompted another move to Gold Canyon, Arizona where she enjoyed the winters in Arizona and summers in Colorado, before moving back to Kansas to be closer to family. Her family has many great memories of spending the holidays in Estes Park, CO and Gold Canyon, AZ over the years.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby (Rathbun) Morganfield, father, William “Bud” Morganfield, and brother Kenneth.

Shirley is survived by her son Kevin (Lucy) of Manhattan, Ks; four grandchildren; Benjamin (Gabby) of Rapid City, SD, Bryce (Emily) of Independence, MO; Jace of Manhattan, KS and Kellie of Manhattan, KS; and 4 great grandchildren, Pierson, Regan, Ariella and Loey.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Violet M. Graham, 77, of Wakefield, Kansas passed away on October 18, 2023, at Village Manor. Cremation has taken place per family's wishes and a family led service is pending.

Violet was born on January 27, 1946, to Elbert and Peggy (Parsons) Ford in Meridian, Idaho. Growing up on a farm in Idaho, she spent a lot of time working with dairy cows. Around her 10th birthday, mom and dad moved her to Chico, California, where she met the love of her life, Glenn and they were married by 1962. She was an avid musician with the church. Playing the mandolin, the auto-harp, and singing was her way of worshipping Jesus. Her family will always have fond memories of her singing during the Christmas season.

Hannelore was born on December 29, 1940, to Fritz and Anna (Gebele) Reiner in Boblingen, Germany. She married Roscoe in 1959. She supported her husband throughout his military career and chose to raise their family in Kansas. She enjoyed years of walking South Park with her many friends and family. She also enjoyed her mini vacations, trips to the casinos, and thrift stores. She loved her roses, flowers, and watching wildlife in her backyard. Spending time with her family, playing Skipbo, was one of her most favorite past times. Her kind hearted personality will be missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her four children, Norman (Susan) Enfield, Loraine Arbuckle, Joleen Schnurr, and Diana (Mike) Schnurr; one sister, Renate of Germany, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson.She was preceded by her husband, parents, brother, and son-in-law.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Judy was born September 25, 1944 to Elmer and Irene (Wernecke) Ridley.Judy worked in banking for many years before becoming a correctional officer for the State of Texas in which she retired after 20+ years. She was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband Michael R. Powell of Texas; two sons, Jack and Linda Marshall of Victoria, Texas and Kenneth and Cathy Marshall of Lufkin, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Lorynda and Brian Travis of Willis, Texas; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald and Darca Ridley of Milford, Kansas and Daniel and Brenda Ridley of Manhattan, Kansas; three step-daughters; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.Judy was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Michael W. Earl Ray Dornberger, age 86 of Riley, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

He was born on August 5, 1937 in Industry, the son of Harry Walter and Adda Mae (Jury) Dornberger.

He married Carol Marie Bruce on June 6, 1981.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Earl served in the United States Air Force in Top Security for 22 years, retiring in 1977.&nbsp; Following his military career, he worked at G.T.E. in California and drove a school bus for U.S.D. 378 Riley County Schools.&nbsp; He also farmed outside of Riley.&nbsp; Earl was a member of the Riley Presbyterian Church, Master Mason Clay Center, and Eastern Star 180 Clay Center.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Dornberger of Riley; one step son, Rick Edwards and wife Cathy of Sargent, Texas; one step daughter, Lynda Vargem of Plano, Texas; one brother, Martin Dornberger of Clay Center; one sister, Shirley Woods of Arkansas; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons, David Dornberger, Ronald Dornberger and Michael Dornberger, and two sisters, Gladys Billingham and Phylis Johnston.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at the Riley Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gerry Sharp officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment with Military Honors will be in the Bala Cemetery.

Earl Ray Dornberger

Darylene Mae Wilder, 84, of Clay Center, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center. &nbsp;She was born on December 11, 1938, the seventh of eight daughters of John A. H. and Marie C. (Wehking) Gunter on the family farm north of Miltonvale, Kansas.

She attended one room schools at Woodruff, Carmel and Limestone. &nbsp;Darylene graduated from Miltonvale Rural High School in 1956. &nbsp; She married James L. Carver in 1959-1965. &nbsp;They had two children, Linda L. and James, Jr. &nbsp;She married Jack E. Wilder December 10, 1966 and became stepmother to Sherry and Lisa. &nbsp;The couple had two more children, Darla J. and Jack, Jr.

Darylene was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed March 30, 1958. &nbsp;She taught Sunday School and served on the Altar Guild for many years. &nbsp;She began her working career after high school at Central Office Service and Supply and Western Union, for the Copeland’s and McMahan’s and at the Star and Rex Theatres. &nbsp;She lived with her sister and brother in-law, Louise and Dean Liby during that time.

She felt blessed to be able to stay at home and raise her family and sought employment when Jacky became school age. &nbsp;She worked at Key Milling in the egg division, Bud’s Tire Service, and for Clay County Health Department, retiring in 2013 after nearly 20 years. &nbsp;Later, after retirement, she became Finance Secretary at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Darylene enjoyed summers on Milford Lake, camping with their young children, vacations trips with children in their station wagons, later visiting the east coast and Great Lakes, especially the lighthouses, which she collected replicas and memorabilia, with the help of family and friends.

Time spent sitting with loved ones in doctor’s offices, hospital rooms or her own rest periods, she occupied with needlework or her great love, reading.

&nbsp;Her joy and delight was her family. &nbsp;She was quite obsessed with pictures and genealogy, which she shared with cousins. &nbsp;She filled notebooks with family stories to pass down to grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;Darylene is preceded in death by her parents; beloved son Jacky Wilder, Jr.; and 5 sisters, Freda Koerber, Loretta Price, June Herdt, Louise Liby and Minnie Beikmann.

&nbsp; She is survived by her husband, Jack Wilder, Sr.; son, James L. “Jay” Carver, Jr. of Clay Center, KS; 4 daughters, Linda and husband, Dennis Parry of Moundridge, KS, Darla Wilder of Junction City, KS, Sherry and husband, Christian Ruiz of Andover, KS and Lisa and husband, Tim Kaufman of Clay Center, KS; &nbsp;15 grandchildren, Jill Wasko, Mindy (David) Parry, Holly (Matt) Plank, Jesse Taunton, Jareth Taunton, Aaron Jones, Jon (Sara) Cunningham, Jason (Rachel) Cunningham, Jeremy Cunningham, Jacob Ruiz, Ray Davis, Jennifer (Phillip) Ciampa, Lacy (Mike) Abell, Amanda Houchin (Clayton Mason) and Michael Houchin; 28 great grandchildren, Adelyn, Baby Parry, Paisley, Lucas, Elijah, Caden, Chance, Aeriana, Clara, Corbin, Titus, Lydia, Gideon, Evangeline, Ezra, Chloe, Abigail, Ryland, Emma, Izzy, Ally, Jeremiah, Gracelyn, Ezra, Lily, Isaiah, TJ and Monica; and 2 sisters, Elsie Affolter of Morganville, KS and Ann Worley of Clay Center, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 30 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center.

Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center.

Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas.

Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church and can be sent in care of the funeral home.

 </figure>Darylene Mae Wilder, 84, of Clay Center, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center. &nbsp;She was born on December 11, 1938, the seventh of eight daughters of John A. H. and Marie C. (Wehking) Gunter on the family farm north of Miltonvale, Kansas.She attended one room schools at Woodruff, Carmel and Limestone. &nbsp;Darylene graduated from Miltonvale Rural High School in 1956. &nbsp; She married James L. Carver in 1959-1965. &nbsp;They had two children, Linda L. and James, Jr. &nbsp;She married Jack E. Steven Gene Thornton was born in Salinas, California on April 14, 1954 to Lester and Marie. After High School Steve joined the United States Navy, served on the USS Proteus, was deployed to Guam like his Father, and was honorably discharged to begin a career as a firefighter.On April 5, 1986, he married Mary Ann Davalos. When an opportunity to continue his career in Kansas at Fort Riley became available, Steve and Mary Ann decided to make Abilene, Kansas their home.In the early 2000’s, Steve began to feel the effects of Parkinson’s Disease. He was forced to retire from the career he loved, and would spend most of his time with Mary Ann, visiting his parents and taking daily trips to the local park to let his beloved dogs run.

Steve is survived by his wife Mary Ann, his mother Marie, brothers Dennis and David and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Lester. 

Services will be held on November 11 at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Abilene.&nbsp;A memorial has been established to benefit Neighbor to Neighbor -Abilene.
