Arlon L. Meek

Alberta “Bert” Stallbaumer, 83, Topeka, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023. 
 Bert was born March 23, 1940, in Corning, Kansas, the daughter of 
Albert and Anna Rusche Ronnebaum and graduated from Corning High School 
in 1957. On June 1, 1957, Alberta and Garylee Stallbaumer were united in
 marriage, sharing 65 years together. Bert was a member of 
Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. She collected angels, loved 
her Yorkies and Keith Urban. She loved to travel, visiting most of the 
United States and Europe. Bert was a wonderful cook and shared that 
talent at Assumption Grade School for 17 years. She loved her family 
dearly and was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She 
will be greatly missed. Grateful to have shared her life are 
her husband, Gary; their children, Dennis Stallbaumer (Kim), Denise 
Smidt (Fred), DeAnna Evans (Gary) and Rhonda Combs (Mike); 
grandchildren, Colleen, Holly and Jesey; great-grandchildren, Tara, 
Brynn, Abram and Elora; her siblings, Maxine Hochard, Nancy Ronnebaum 
and Marlin Ronnebaum. She was preceded in death by her sister, Norma 
Koerperich. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, 
April 26, at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. Mass of 
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Church and will be
 livestreamed on the funeral home Facebook page. Burial will follow in

Alberta 'Bert' Stallbaumer

Marc Lane Fosdick, 62, of Oak Hill, KS, died 
Tuesday, April 18, 2023, in a farming accident at the farm where he 
lived with his girlfriend, Rose Scott.

Marc was born April 6, 1961, in Concordia, KS, the son of Patricia (Craig) Bonde and Darrel Fosdick.

Marc graduated from Miltonvale High School in 1980 and attended Beloit Vo-Tech.&nbsp; He married several times and lived in various locations and states.&nbsp; 

He was a carpenter at the time of his death.&nbsp; In
 his spare time, you might find him with a chainsaw in his hands cutting 
firewood or cedar trees in the pasture, at a local pond (or a secret 
honey-hole) trying to catch the most elusive fish, in the garden 
planting, watering, weeding and harvesting produce, or in the kitchen 
cooking, canning or baking something flavorful and yummy.

Marc is proceeded in death by his mother Patricia Bonde, half-brothers Patrick Smith and Tracy Fosdick and his grandparents.

Survivors include his girlfriend Rose and their 
pets, several friends, and neighbors he loved dearly, his father Darrel 
Fosdick of Clyde, KS; sister, Jacque (Fosdick) Kimble; brother, Lance 
Fosdick; half-sister, Terri (Fosdick) Rush of Salina; stepsister, Angie 
(Fosdick) Callihan of Concordia, and aunts and cousins.&nbsp; 

A Celebration of Life gathering is scheduled for 2 –
 4 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Miltonvale Senior Center in 
Miltonvale KS.

William
 "Bill" Eugene Kagle Jr. was born to William Eugene Kagle Sr. and
 Kathleen June (Snyder) Kagle on October 20th, 1947, in Concordia, KS. 
He passed away peacefully at Marquis Place, Concordia, on April 20, 2023,&nbsp; at the age of 75.

&nbsp;Bill
 was a 1965 graduate of Concordia High School. After a brief time at 
Fort Hays State, he was drafted into the U.S. Army November of 1966 at 
the height of the Vietnam War. Due to an injury, he was honorably 
discharged November of 1968 with ranking of Sergeant (E-5). As a result 
of his service, Bill was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, 
Sharpshooter Weapons Qualification Medal, National Defense Service 
Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Combat 
Infantry Badge. Upon his discharge, Bill returned to Concordia and had 
long term employment with Scrivner- Boogaarts. During later years, he 
drove a mail truck to drop off points for rural carriers. Bill was also 
hired as extra help by many area farmers and friends. They likely 
enjoyed his help but more so the laughter and stories he shared. 

Bill
 made friends easily with his infectious warm personality and great 
sense of humor. He enjoyed socializing with friends and family, fishing 
and sitting outdoors with a book in hand. He was an avid reader and 
could discuss many topics. Bill suffered the loss and heartache of his 
son Eli Wade Kagle in August of 2015. His joy was to watch grandson Sean
 Kagle grow up. In July of 2020, Bill suffered a life altering stroke 
and wanted care to be in Concordia. Marquis Place made this possible 
from December of 2020 until his passing.

&nbsp;Bill was preceded in death by his son Eli, parents Bill Sr. and Kathleen, and great nephew Clayton McGuire. 

He
 is survived by grandson Sean Kagle and mother Tera McClure, both of 
Eldorado, KS; siblings Patsy Rasmussen (Robert), Cornville, AZ; Janet 
McKenna (Kenny), Oklahoma City, OK; Laura Hopkins- Cockroft (Richard), 
Bavaria, KS; Lonnie Kagle, Concordia, KS, along with three generations 
of nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and Aunt Dorothy Snyder. 

The
 family thanks ALL the staff at Marquis Place for their care and 
kindness throughout Bill’s medical ups and downs, the Veterans 
Association of Wichita, KS, for the assistance to obtain all the 
deserved benefits for his care and Meadowlark Hospice of Clay Center, 
KS, for their diligence and support during Bill’s final weeks.

Bill’s
 wishes were to be cremated under arrangements of Chaput-Buoy Funeral 
Home. A private family gathering will take place at a future date. In 
honor of Bill a memorial has been established for his grandson's

Chuck Bussing

Charles Reynolds Fleeker, age 79, passed away on April 18th, at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

He was born on June 22, 1943, to William Lloyd Fleeker and Ruth Elaine Olmsted Fleeker.

On
 November 26, 1972, he was married to Judy Picolet.  Judy survives of 
the home.  Additional survivors include their two sons: Randal (Kari) 
Fleeker and Christopher Fleeker all of Manhattan; Charles has a daughter
 Frances Comer of Olathe, KS; five grandchildren and six 
great-grandchildren.

Charles graduated from Manhattan High School with the class of 1961.

He worked for many years as a sheet metal worker and also owned several rental properties in Manhattan.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tom Fleeker, and his sister Billie Louise Steavenson.

The
 family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 
26th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.  Private family 
graveside services will be held in Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan, with 
Dave Geldart officiating.

Patsy “Pat” R. Nichols, 80 of Clay Center, died Tuesday, April 18, 
2023, at Advena Living of Clay Center.&nbsp; She was born on June 13, 1942, in 
Stella, Missouri, the daughter of Price and Samantha Pogue.

Pat grew up and graduated from high school in Stella, Missouri.&nbsp; She 
married Jimmie Nichols Sr. in 1960 and they were later separated.&nbsp; She 
worked at Gilmore-Tatge in shipping and accounts payable for nearly 40 
years, Clay County Medical Center as an admissions clerk and for USD 379
 food service.&nbsp; Pat also owned many rental houses in Clay Center and 
Nichols Tax Service.&nbsp; In her spare time, Pat was an avid artist.&nbsp; She is
 preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, Mary Hunter, Dorothy 
Button and Leta Francisco and 2 brothers, Larry and Leon Pogue.

She is survived by her son, Jimmie and wife, Jan Nichols of Clay 
Center, Kansas; daughter, Tammy and husband, Larry Roetter of Linn, 
Kansas; 3 grandchildren, Jessie Nichols, Denton Roetter and Jared 
Roetter and 3 great grandchildren, Henry,Toby and Gabe Roetter.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 10:30AM 
at the Clay Center United Methodist Church in Clay Center, Kansas.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas.

Visitation will beld on Monday, April 24, 2023, from 3-7PM at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Patsy 'Pat' R. Nichols

Janice K. McGranahan, 82, passed away April, 17, 2023, at Oakley Place in Rossville.

She was born on October 26, 1940, in Beloit, Kansas. Jan was the only child of Lavere and Francis LaCoe.

Janice LaCoe and Richard Magette were married on June 9, 1960. 
Richard passed away on May 26, 1973. Jan and Donald V. McGranahan were 
united in marriage on March 24, 1977. Don passed away on February 1, 
2022. Jan was also preceded in death by her father, mother, and 
step-father Keith Davis, her sons Damon and Shannon Magette, and 
step-grandson Jared Cheek. 

Jan is survived by her son Brandon (Joan) 
Magette, St, Marys, step-children Debra Kubes, Ness City, Trudy Padilla,
 Carbondale, Donald (LeAnn) McGranahan, Topeka, and Bruce McGranahan, 
Wamego, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Per Jan's request there will be no services. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

Janice K. McGranahan

Connie Christine Wharton, 71, of Clay Center, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023, at her residence.

She was born on November 4, 1951, in La Crosse the daughter of Harold Dean and Mary Jane (Johnson) Dalton.

On June 6, 1971, in Bison, she married Lyle Douglas Wharton.&nbsp; He survives of the home.

Connie worked as a bookkeeper in accounting for department and 
hardware stores.&nbsp; She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Clay 
Center and Job’s Daughters International.&nbsp; She was an avid sewer and 
reader and enjoyed traveling.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her 
grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Staci 
Smith of Houston, Texas and Stephanie Lagerman and husband Todd of 
Riley; two grandchildren, Lily and Logan Lagerman of Riley; two 
brothers, Jerry Dalton and wife Rhonda of Wichita and Robert Dalton and 
wife Mary of Bison, and one sister, Lonnie Call of Arlington.

Connie Wharton

John F. Hawks, age 68, of Manhattan, died April 11, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

He was born September 19, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of William Whitcomb and Marjorie Virginia (Meyers) Hawks.

John
 was an over the road truck driver for several years prior to earning 
his bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from DeVry 
University and then working as a software developer for Lucent 
Technology.  He later was a delivery driver for Dillons for nine years.

He was a member of the Living Word Church in Manhattan.

He
 was married to Melanie on November 9, 1991, in Emporia, Kansas.  
Melanie survives of Manhattan.  Additional survivors include four sons: 
Larry M. Estes of Osage City, KS, Joshua D. Estes of Excelsior Springs, 
MO, Daniel W. Hawks of Manhattan, KS, and David R. Hawks of Shawnee, KS;
 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with the sixth expected 
soon.

Cremation is planned with graveside services to 
be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 5th, 2023, at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery 
at Fort Riley with Pastor Sterling Hutchins officiating.

Gary Wayne Helms, 67, died April 17, 2023, in Topeka, KS.&nbsp; He was born 
on August 11, 1955, in Washington, KS, the son of Edgar and Betty (Meier)
 Helms.&nbsp; 

Gary grew up in rural Linn. He attended Immanuel Lutheran 
Grade School and was a Class of 1973 graduate of Linn High School where 
he participated in track and basketball. After high school, he attended
 Concordia College in Seward, NE.&nbsp; 

Gary worked as a carpenter for many 
years. In 1988, Gary moved his family to Clay Center. He was a former 
member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was currently a member of St. 
Paul Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Gary enjoyed music and played his trumpet for 
many church and holiday events. 

He was preceded in death by his parents,
 a brother and a sister.

Gary Wayne Helms

Eudora J. McQueen, a valued member of the Delia community, passed 
away on April 14, 2023, due to injuries sustained in a car accident. She
 was 90 years old.

Eudora was born on April 15, 1932, in rural Jackson County to Emery 
E. and Bertha R. (Dibbern) Eakin. She attended Delia High School and 
graduated in 1950. On October 18, 1952, Eudora married Harold McQueen at
 the Circleville Christian Church. Together, they worked as farmers and 
ranchers.

Eudora was an active member of the Delia Presbyterian Church and the 
UPW. She also served her community in various capacities, including 
working for the United States Postal Service and USD #321. She was a 
dedicated member of the election board, and she was recently elected as 
Republican Committee Woman for Washington Precinct.

Eudora had a talent for crafting and was a member of the Monday quilt
 group, which started as the Presbyterian Women and later was opened to 
all ladies of the community. She made over a hundred quilts for family, 
friends, and the Delia Bazaar. Eudora also helped with concessions at 
many auctions. She was a member of Delia Pride and a past member of the 
Eastern Star.

Eudora was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents, her 
twin brother Edward Eakin, and her sister Ivaleu Miller. She is survived
 by her sons, Lee (Patty) McQueen of Kearney, NE, and Glen McQueen of 
Delia, and her daughter, Denise (Paul) Virgadamo of New Port Richey, FL.
 She is also survived by three grandchildren: Megan McQueen of Kansas 
City, MO, Kurt McQueen of Benton, AR, and Gwen McKay of Oakland, CA.

Funeral services for Eudora will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, 
April 26, 2023, at the Delia Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at 
the Delia Cemetery. Friends may visit Eudora's family and pay their

Eudora June McQueen

Lola Mae (Adee) Everett was born September 12th, 1942, in Abilene, 
Kansas, the daughter of Loyall M. and Esther M. (Rider) Adee. She passed
 away at the age of 80 on Saturday, April 15th, 2023, in Beloit, Kansas,
 at Mitchell County Hospital. 
Lola graduated from Abilene High School in 1960, and was united in 
marriage to Gerald E. Everett on August 20th, 1960, who preceded her in 
death in 2017. In 1963, their son, Donald E., was born. Donnie preceded
 Lola in death in 2018. In 1968, their daughter, Julie D., was born. 
Lola was also preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and 
sister, Sandra J. (Enger) Miller. 
As a homemaker, she became fascinated with and spent many hours studying
 her family’s genealogy and history. Lola compiled newspaper articles, 
certificates, and other resources into several volumes. She also 
enjoyed game shows, reading, crossword puzzles, and playing card games 
with her children and grandchildren. 
Lola is survived by daughter Julie Boyd and her husband Steven of 
Abilene; their children, Shannon and Michelle Young of Abilene; Talon 
Combes of Abilene; Megan and Hunter Gregory, their sons Keaton, Kade, 
and Kolter of Gore, Oklahoma; Ashley Boyd and Hugh Boyd of Oklahoma 
City; daughter-in-law Debra Everett of Salina; Debra and Donnie’s 
children, Jordan Everett and her son, Watson Solis, of Wichita; Brooke 
Burr and husband Landon of Billings, Montana; and Sydney Everett and 
Emilee Everett of Salina. Lola is also survived by her siblings, Caroll
 (Lowell) Eye, Melvin (Sherry) Adee, Bruce Enger, Linda (Steve) Myers, 
Christine Enger, Janice (Steve) Dester, Rhonda Keating, and many nieces 
and nephews. 
Funeral services for Lola will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 22nd, 
2023, at the First United Methodist Church in Abilene with Reverend Mik

 was born July 29, 1946, in Joplin, MO, a daughter of James Ralph and 
Alberta Frances (Johnson) Peters. She was united in holy matrimony to 
James Francis Moloney on August 31, 1967, at St. Xavier Catholic Church 
where she was a lifelong member after joining the Catholic Church early 
in 1967. They resided in rural Junction City, KS on the family farm for
 54 years together. Left to honor her memory are her loving 
children; Donny Moloney of Wichita, Michelle Moloney (Jane) of Leawood, 
Cecilia (Brian) Aruskevicius of Wichita, Jean Moloney of Mariemont, OH, 
Patrick (Erin) Moloney of Shawnee, Sheila (Dan) Smith of Hillsboro, IA, 
Michael (Courtney) Moloney of Waverly, Megan Moloney (Jerry) of Abilene,
 John (Jamelle) Moloney of Lawrence, Mary (Korby) Effland of White City.

 Roger, and Johnny and one sister, Nancy. She attended a one-room
 schoolhouse (Walla Walla) for Elementary School and graduated from 
Chapman High School in 1964. She often talked of her time at Walla 
Walla with great delight and love. Chapman High is where she learned 
her love of music. Her fondest memory of high school is going to the 
State Basketball Tournament and playing with the band at halftime. Ella
 spent her life raising children, farming with her late husband, and as a
 rural mail carrier. She began as a substitute carrier in 1989 and 
retired from her long-time route in Chapman in 2015. She was proud to 
be a mail carrier and looked forward to her job every day. If she was 
your mail carrier, you could always expect a smile, a wave, fun notes in
 your mailbox, and that she and her Jeep were dressed for the season! 
She always stopped to talk as well, if she felt someone needed it, even 
if it put her off schedule. She was honored to have been chosen as the 
Kansas Rural Letter Carrier of the Year in 2012. She served as a 
national delegate for 8 years, held the office of chaplain, and 
continued to be involved at national conventions. In 2016, she joined 
Johnson Funeral Home as a support staff member to assist with funeral 
services. She was a lover of music, a devout Catholic, an avid 
bowler, and devoted to her family. She was a member of St. Xavier 
Catholic Church, the Christian Women’s Club, the Kansas Bowling 
Association, and a former school board member of St. Xavier Catholic 
School. She loved music theatre and was a part of many productions with
 Junction City Little Theatre. She was always singing or saying 
nursery rhymes. She was known to put the children in the station wagon 
on a whim and take them into town to “perform” (dancing, singing, poems)
 for the residents at the local nursing homes. To know her was to know 
the size of her heart. There was always room for one more at the dinner
 table, always an extra dollar for someone in need, and always time to 
stop and chat. In all of Ella’s travels near and far, she always 
managed to find someone with a connection to her, whether it be “she 
used to be my neighbor” or “that’s where my son-in-law is from.” She 
was a devoted Grandma, and it was truly her favorite endeavor. She was 
at every possible activity, cheering the loudest, and bragging all the 
way through. We will always cherish her memory. Family will 
receive friends on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
 at St. Xavier Catholic Church. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. A
 Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 
21, 2023, at St. Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will be at Vine Creek

Kansas Rural Letter Carrier of the Year in 2012. She served as a 
national delegate for 8 years, held the office of chaplain, and 
continued to be involved at national conventions. In 2016, she joined 
Johnson Funeral Home as a support staff member to assist with funeral 
services. She was a lover of music, a devout Catholic, an avid 
bowler, and devoted to her family. She was a member of St. Xavier 
Catholic Church, the Christian Women’s Club, the Kansas Bowling 
Association, and a former school board member of St. Xavier Catholic 
School. She loved music theatre and was a part of many productions with
 Junction City Little Theatre. She was always singing or saying 
nursery rhymes. She was known to put the children in the station wagon 
on a whim and take them into town to “perform” (dancing, singing, poems)
 for the residents at the local nursing homes. To know her was to know 
the size of her heart. There was always room for one more at the dinner
 table, always an extra dollar for someone in need, and always time to 
stop and chat. In all of Ella’s travels near and far, she always 
managed to find someone with a connection to her, whether it be “she 
used to be my neighbor” or “that’s where my son-in-law is from.” She 
was a devoted Grandma, and it was truly her favorite endeavor. She was 
at every possible activity, cheering the loudest, and bragging all the 
way through. We will always cherish her memory. Family will 
receive friends on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
 at St. Xavier Catholic Church. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. A
 Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 
21, 2023, at St. Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will be at Vine Creek 
Cemetery in Ottawa County, KS, following the service. Memorials may be made to St. Xavier Catholic Church.

A Celebration of Life Service for Christina Marie Escobar is planned for 2:30 p.m. this coming Saturday (April 22nd) at the Eagles Lodge in Junction City, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Christina, 29, of Killeen, Texas passed away on December 29th, 2022 after a long fight with glioblastoma brain cancer. She was born on August 20th, 1993 to Jerry Escobar and Laura Boller Escobar. Growing up in Central Texas, Christina was a firecracker who expressed interest in art, singing, and performing. She graduated from Central Texas College in 2017 with a degree in child development that allowed her to impact children in an effective way. Christina was a devout Catholic and a regular member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Killeen. She was baptized at St. Xavier’s Catholic Church in Junction City, Kansas. 

As a teacher at the Child Development Center at Central Texas College, Christina’s true passions for education were able to shine through. She found joy in working with children and instilling positive values within her students. In Christina’s free time she enjoyed being with her family and staying active. Even after her diagnosis in 2019 she enjoyed long walks with her dog, Oreo. Oreo was rescued after Christina’s brain surgery that removed her first tumor. She always liked to say that she didn’t rescue Oreo, but that they rescued each other. Christina also enjoyed swimming, cooking, taking care of her house plants, and spending time with her loved ones.

 Christina is survived by her mother and father, Laura Boller Escobar and Jerry Escobar, and sister Sara Escobar, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Betty Jo Boller Budden, Joseph F. Boller, Deloy Budden, and Alice Escobar. Christina passed over into the arms of the Lord surrounded by her family and loyal dog Oreo.

Jean&nbsp;was&nbsp;born&nbsp;on&nbsp;July&nbsp;2,&nbsp;1933&nbsp;to&nbsp;Victor&nbsp;and&nbsp;Louise&nbsp;(Adams)&nbsp;Pykiet&nbsp;in Bushong,&nbsp;KS.&nbsp;She&nbsp;grew&nbsp;up&nbsp;with&nbsp;her&nbsp;younger&nbsp;sister&nbsp;and&nbsp;lifelong&nbsp;best friend,&nbsp;Betty,&nbsp;in&nbsp;Bushong&nbsp;and&nbsp;Council&nbsp;Grove. Always&nbsp;adventurous,&nbsp;talented,&nbsp;and&nbsp;a&nbsp;heck&nbsp;of&nbsp;a&nbsp;lot&nbsp;of&nbsp;fun,&nbsp;she naturally&nbsp;drew&nbsp;people&nbsp;to&nbsp;her&nbsp;through&nbsp;her&nbsp;music&nbsp;–&nbsp;playing&nbsp;saxophone, piano&nbsp;and&nbsp;organ&nbsp;–&nbsp;and&nbsp;her&nbsp;kindness,&nbsp;empathy&nbsp;and&nbsp;ability&nbsp;to&nbsp;listen&nbsp;as if&nbsp;you&nbsp;were&nbsp;the&nbsp;most&nbsp;important&nbsp;person&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;world. In&nbsp;her&nbsp;life,&nbsp;Jean&nbsp;was&nbsp;a&nbsp;teacher,&nbsp;naval&nbsp;officer’s&nbsp;wife,&nbsp;stay-at-home mom,&nbsp;Christian&nbsp;bookstore&nbsp;manager,&nbsp;pastor’s&nbsp;wife,&nbsp;church&nbsp;pianist,&nbsp;and an&nbsp;absolutely&nbsp;world-class&nbsp;grandmother,&nbsp;known&nbsp;as&nbsp;“Mamee”&nbsp;to&nbsp;her&nbsp;six grandsons&nbsp;and&nbsp;all&nbsp;their&nbsp;friends. Connie L. Kemp, 75 passed away Monday, April 17, 2023, at a Topeka Hospital.

Connie was born March 23, 1948, in Kansas City, Kansas, the 
daughter of William and Ruth Prichard Eichman.&nbsp; She was raised in 
Wakefield, Wamego, and Topeka, graduating from Seaman High School in 
1965.

Connie worked for Southwestern Bell in Topeka for many years.&nbsp; 
After retiring she was a day care provider for many years. She owned and
 operated North Shore Restaurant at Lake Wabaunsee and was a Dollar 
General manager for several years.&nbsp; Connie worked at the Eskridge Market
 and most recently was a transportation specialist for USD #330.&nbsp; Connie
 was active in the Eskridge community.&nbsp; She served on the city council, 
PTA and was a member of the Eskridge Chamber.&nbsp; She served on the 
Eskridge Labor Day Rodeo Committee for 15 years. She enjoyed baking and 
was well known for her baked goods.&nbsp;

On April 29, 1983, she and Richard Kemp were united in marriage 
in Alma.&nbsp; Richard preceded her in death on April 11, 2011.&nbsp; Connie was 
also preceded in death by her father in 1979, and a sister Pat Martin in
 1981.

Survivors include her children, Quinton (Kara) Kemp, Derby, and 
Corey (Kyle) Maddox, Eskridge; her mother, Ruth Eichman, Taunton, MA; a 
sister Karen Sylvia, Buzzard Bay, MA; four grandchildren, McKenna, 
Addison, and Gunner Maddox, and Kate Kemp.

Visitation will be from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. Saturday, April 22,
 2023, at the Wabaunsee County Fire Department #5 Lake Wabaunsee 
Location.

Paul Joseph Rodenbaugh of Techumseh, KS, passed away Saturday, April 15,
 2023. He was born January 23, 1944, in Topeka, KS, the son of Mathias 
and Edith (Brubaker) Rodenbaugh of St. Marys, KS. Paul was a 1962 
graduate of St.Marys High School and attended business college in 
Topeka. He worked in the business office at Santa Fe Railroad and at 
Topeka salvage pool. He married Faye Valburg-Fischer in 1963 and they were
 blessed with four children; daughters Marjorie Ann Haynie of Duluth KS,
 and Deanna Lorien Warren of Overbrook, KS, sons James Anthony 
Rodenbaugh (Sue) of Smithfield, NC, and Andrew Mathias Rodenbaugh of 
Paxico, KS. They later divorced. He later married Carol Goodson in 1988 
having been blessed with a son, Nelson Mathias Rodenbaugh. He was 
preceded in death by his parents, sister, Anna Mae McMorris, brothers, 
Leo and Bernard Rodenbaugh, and a great-grandson Tyler James Rodenbaugh. Survivors
 include his five children, wife, Carol, she resides at their home, 
sister Helen Cormie of Belvedere IL, seven grandchildren and five

Robert Alva Arnold Jr. (Bob,Bobby) &nbsp;Age 74,born in Sabetha, Ks 
(8/9/48), left his&nbsp;earthly home on Friday April 14th, 2023, at&nbsp;Midland 
Hospice in Topeka, Ks.

Bob suffered with&nbsp;dementia for&nbsp;nearly 20 years. The disease 
had took its toll;&nbsp;however he was still residing at home with his wife 
Lois (Rudder) of 55 years of marriage.&nbsp;(June 1, 1967). During his 
lifetime Bob&nbsp;enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, mushroom &nbsp;hunting and 
most of all his life with Lois and &nbsp;their four daughters and many 
grandchildren.&nbsp;

Bob was a Vietnam Vet, seeing active duty in A Shau Valley, 
the city of Hue, the Ho Chi Minh trail, all very near the DMZ. He was 
wounded twice and received&nbsp;two Purple Hearts for defending our country.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Marie of the home. &nbsp;Debbie
 (Arnold) Ratner (daughter) and Darren Kizziah&nbsp;(fiancee) of Wakarusa, 
Ks. Cody Ratner (grandson) of Topeka. Cheyenne Ratner

Eudora J. McQueen, 90, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, from injuries she received in an auto accident.

She was born in rural Jackson County on April 15, 1932, the daughter 
of Emery E. and Bertha R. (Dibbern) Eakin.&nbsp; Eudora graduated from Delia 
High School in 1950.

Eudora and her husband Harold were farmers and ranchers.&nbsp; She was a 
member of the Delia Presbyterian Church and the UPW.&nbsp; She was very 
active in her community and church.&nbsp; Eudora worked for the United States
 Postal Service and USD #321 for several years.&nbsp; She served on the 
election board for many years.&nbsp; She was recently elected to serve as the
 clerk of Adrian Township and the Republican Committee Woman for the 
township.&nbsp; Eudora was a member of the Monday quilt group that started as
 the Presbyterian woman and later ladies of the community.&nbsp; She was a 
crafter and had made over a hundred quilts for family, friends, and the 
Delia Bazaar.&nbsp; She helped with concessions at many auctions.&nbsp; Eudora was
 a member of Delia Pride and a past member of the Eastern Star.

Eudora Eakin and Harold McQueen were united in marriage on October 
18, 1952, at the Circleville Christian Church.&nbsp; He preceded her in death
 on March 2, 2009.&nbsp; Eudora was also preceded by her parents, her twin 
brother Edward Eakin and her sister Ivaleu Miller.

Survivors include her sons, Lee (Patty) McQueen, Kearney, NE and Glen
 McQueen, Delia; her daughter, Denise (Paul) Virgadamo, New Port Richey,
 FL; three grandchildren, Megan, McQueen, Kansas City, MO, Kurt McQueen,
 Benton, AR, and Gwen McKay, Oakland, CA.

Mitchell Lynn McCorkle, 69, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital in Kansas City, KS.

Mitchell was born in Emporia, KS on April 18, 1953, the son of Ovid “Corky” and Mayetta McCorkle. He attended the Emporia technical college where he studied electrical and then HVAC. He married Rita on August 29, 1972, in Emporia, KS. Mitchell worked for Modern Air in Emporia before moving to Manhattan, where he spent the next 20 years working for M&amp;S Plumbing. He eventually moved on and worked for McDonald’s traveling between Wamego and Abilene working on the HVAC systems up until his retirement.

Mitchell had a heart of gold and was always willing to help those around him. He had a funny sense of humor and an addictive personality. His family, friends, and co-workers always knew they could rely on him. He enjoyed spending time with his family whether it was going to the park, taking vacations, or going to the lake to roast hotdogs and marshmallows. He also enjoyed taking pictures and would frequently be asked to assist with taking photos for special occasions. Mitchell attended bible study and church regularly. He wanted to continue to grow close to God while helping others to learn about him as well.

Mitchell is survived by his wife, Rita McCorkle of Manhattan, along with 4 sons, Michael of Manhattan, Richard (wife Becky) of North Carolina, Joseph (wife Didi) of Texas, and James (wife Lea) of Washington State, as well as one daughter, Desiree (husband Montell) of Manhattan/ Kansas City, and 7 grandkids, Raven, Carlos, Lillian, Zoey, Nevada, Jaydyn, and Eli, and 2 great grandkids. He also leaves behind 3 sisters, Anita Stroud (husband Cal) of Utah, Nancy Latimer of El Dorado, KS, and Donna Carpenter (husband Dave) of Lebo, KS, and several nieces and nephews.

Warren Richard Slingsby, age 74 of Green, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born on October 21, 1948, in Clay Center, the son of Donald and
 Mae (Limbrey) Slingsby.&nbsp; He grew up on a farm north of Clay Center and 
helped with farm work, dairy cattle and hogs.&nbsp; He graduated from Clay 
County Community High School and was active in FFA.&nbsp; Following high 
school he earned a degree in auto mechanics from Beloit Vo-Tech.

On June 9, 1973, in Green, he married Rhonda Sue Simnitt.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Over the years, Warren worked at Moore Motors, Primrose Motors, 
Toburen Implement, Fullington Lumber and Clay Center Public Utilities.&nbsp; 
He was a member of the Green United Methodist Church and served on 
numerous boards such as the Clay Center Historical Museum, Credit Union,
 Green United Methodist Church, Green Rural Fire Department and Green 
Community Center.

He coached T-Ball when his sons were young and he enjoyed fishing, 
hunting and working on old tractors.&nbsp; Warren didn’t know a stranger and 
was a friend to all.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeremy Clinton 
Slingsby of Green and Kyle Richard Slingsby and wife Angela of Clay 
Center; three grandchildren, Lukas, Kade and Piper Slingsby of Clay 
Center; one brother, Robert Slingsby and wife Erlene of Clay Center; one

Donald E. Rathbone died peacefully at Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan, 
Kansas, on April 11, 2023. He lived a long 94 years, an incredible life 
after his birth January 22, 1929, in Havre, Montana. He was the son of 
Fay and Cora Rathbone who resided in nearby Harlem. Don will be 
remembered as an athlete, scholar, and influencer of the engineering 
profession, not only as Dean of Engineering at Kansas State University 
(K-State) but, nationally and internationally. His influence was 
significant and what follows is an overview of a life well lived.

Basketball
 and tennis in high school were two of his activities but he also 
learned to play bridge and his lifelong love of Dixieland jazz was 
sparked. He honed his skills in tennis at Purdue University during his 
undergraduate years while he began to win bridge tournaments, debated, 
and sang in the choir. During his professional years he became a 
nationally ranked bridge player, continued playing a mean game of tennis
 and mastered the game and art of influencing people on the golf course.
 His daughter, however, started beating him aged twelve.

His
 thorough approach in scholarship was recognized in high school with 
awards including the Bausch &amp; Lomb Award for outstanding students in
 science. Don was not only a valedictorian in his small high school, he 
was first in his class at Purdue in 1951. He earned an MS at 
Northwestern University (NU) and sought a Ph.D. in Electrical 
Engineering. His scholarship and research skills were recognized by his 
major advisor. Don was asked by his advisor to move to the University of
 Pittsburgh where he was named a Westinghouse Scholar and worked for 
Westinghouse. He earned his doctorate with high honors (1962) and met a 
very talented medical graphic artist at Westinghouse who was drawing the
 assemblies which described the then secret, US nuclear submarine fleet.
 He married a medical illustrator, Lynne Jordan in April 1966 and 
embarked on a marriage of 54 years.

Don’s influence on 
the profession was enhanced with “people skill” development when he was 
the overseer of the resident assistants in his dormitory at NU. He 
learned the art and science of teaching and leading research at NU and 
Pitt. It was his profound understanding that the learning of each 
student and faculty member is paramount in a university’s purpose was 
established from these early experiences. Rising rapidly in leadership 
as a faculty member, he applied for and was named Department Head of 
Electrical Engineering at the University of Idaho in 1968. A national 
search selected Don as Dean of Engineering at K-State in 1973, where 
upon his retirement in 1997 he was the longest serving Dean of 
Engineering in the nation.

He hit the ground running at
 K-State with two major efforts to make this the finest undergraduate 
engineering college in the nation: 1) the improvement of the teaching 
and administrative environment in Seaton Hall and 2) a major scholarship
 campaign. He is said to have painted the walls himself in colors other 
than the drab paint supplied at the time. His efforts started with the 
raising of funds for the Chemical Engineering program in Durland Hall, 
the building of Durland Phase II, (now named Rathbone Hall), and Fiedler
 Hall.

Although facilities are important to 
productivity, Don knew the importance of learning in a talented and 
inspired student body. He set a goal to create a fund which could offer 
large scholarships to outstanding high school students. He traveled 
statewide to explain engineering, discover future engineering scholars 
and build K-State academic programs to a position of excellence. He 
taught all engineering honors students for two decades emphasizing 
ethics, professionalism and what engineering is and will become as 
science enhances the engineer’s knowledge to do more for the betterment 
of people.

During his tenure, the K-State engineering 
student population rose from about 1000 to 2600 undergraduates and from 
150 to 500 graduate students. His understanding of the value of 
diversity of thought extended to an early focus encouraging women to 
study engineering and a bit later motivated an effort with minorities. 
The first woman faculty member was appointed during his time as Dean. He
 was a strong advocate for increased faculty salaries. Research 
increased 20-fold to $10 million. The college added five departments and
 several national centers of excellence. He was one of the founders of 
the National Institute for Land Management and Training with his vision 
of the role of engineering in improving life.

His 
influence nationally included consulting and professional society 
leadership. He spent a lifetime consulting to many industrial firms, 
governmental agencies and the National Academy of Sciences. His many 
years of leadership included the Kansas State Board of Technical 
Professions, the Order of the Engineer, Professional Engineers in 
Education / National Society of Professional Engineers and the American 
Society for Engineering Education. Don worked nationally to license and 
continue educating working engineers through the National Council of 
Examiners for Engineering and Surveying and improving engineering 
accreditation through ABET. He created many opportunities for 
engineering faculty members and promoted engineering through 
collaboration between deans and industry.

Recognition 
flowed his way. He was named distinguished alumnus from the University 
of Montana, the University of Pittsburgh and is a member of the 
Engineering Hall of Fame at Kansas State University. To name a few 
others, he was named Fellow by the Institute of Electrical and 
Electronics Engineers, a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering 
Education and presented the Meritorious Service Award from Phi Kappa 
Phi. He also received a Life Achievement Award for service to minority 
students.

Don served the state and local community as 
an elder of the Presbyterian church, President of Rotary, United Way 
Board, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Greater Manhattan 
Community Foundation Board of Directors. He served as a Trustee, KSU 
Foundation and the Kansas Research Foundation, and he founded the Kansas
 Entrepreneurial Center. He worked many years to enhance high school 
math education and both the Kansas Senate and House of Representatives 
passed resolutions honoring him for his efforts. The state mathematics 
competition (MATHCOUNTS) was named in Don and Lynne’s honor in 2021.

He
 was preceded in death by his wife Lynne, his parents, three older 
brothers and their wives, Wallace (Laura), Kenneth (Mary Ann) and Lars. 
He is survived by his daughter Lynda Rathbone who currently resides in 
Ibiza, Spain, as well as nieces, Teri Rathbone, Carol Waagmeester, Patty
 Lamb, Joanne Clyde, and Susan McFarlane.

Funeral 
services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 19th, at the First 
Presbyterian Church, 801 Leavenworth St. Manhattan, KS 66502, with 
Reverend Jason Pittman officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset 
Cemetery in Manhattan.
