Lori Jeanne Davis, 66, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. &nbsp;She had been a member of the Green Valley community for two years, settling here to be close to family.

Lori was born on October 15, 1956, in Schenectady, New York, the daughter of Raymond J. and Edythe (Sperbeck) Coon, granddaughter of Ruth and Albert Sperbeck. &nbsp;After graduating from high school Lori met the love of her life, Curtiss, and shortly thereafter they were wed on July 9, 1976, at the Wee Kirk O' the Heather Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada.&nbsp;

During the first half of their marriage, Curtiss’ employment with Bechtel moved Lori and their children to 12 different states and 3 foreign countries. Lori didn't always love the moves, but she embraced them to ensure her family was successful. Along the way, Lori worked various jobs and returned to school at Victory Valley Community College in Victorville, California to become a medical assistant. Of all the jobs she held, the one Lori excelled at and loved the best was being a mother, homemaker, and primary support for her family.&nbsp;

Lori was a social and welcoming person. She was involved with the girl scouts with her daughters and was an active member of the Bechtel Wives Group, assisting and supporting wives and families new to the company as they learned to adjust to moving to new job sites. In Georgia, she was an active member of the Red Hat Society and the Lions Club.

Lori loved shopping and sightseeing and always presented herself with her best foot forward and never without lipstick and a smile. &nbsp;She loved to decorate her home and took pride in making it a welcoming and comfortable place. She loved going out to eat with family and had a sweet tooth for most all desserts - especially cheesecake, iced oatmeal cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and orange swirl ice cream. Lori loved music and could often be heard singing along to her favorites, especially The Eagles.

Always loving and caring throughout her life, Lori was a shining example to her family and others with her positive attitude and her refusal to complain about her situation. She laughed and smiled her way through life and held on to her faith, even during her nine-year battle with cancer.

Lori is survived by her loving husband Curtiss at their home; by her parents, Raymond and Edythe Coon, of Bunnell, Florida; her daughters, Lauren Smith (Phillip), Manhattan, and Janelle Davis (Jeffrey Dubois), Waxhaw, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Ella and Fisher Smith, and Avery, Adler, Audra, and Arley Dubois; her siblings, Raymond Coon, III, of New Hampshire, Kylle Baker (Joe), of Florida, Scott Coon, of Massachusetts, Jeffrey Coon (Colleen), of New York, and Kelly Coon, of Massachusetts; and her mother-in-law, Marybelle Davis, at their home.

A private family graveside service will be held in Cedar Creek Cemetery.

Barbara Forrest, 62, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Select Specialty Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. Barbara was born July 8, 1960, in Knoxville, Tennessee, the daughter of Herman and Reba (Stevens) Drew. Barbara enjoyed sewing and was a fine seamstress. James “Jim” Andrew Hague, 86, passed away on the morning of June 13th, 2023 in Topeka, KS.

He was born in Oak Park, Illinois on August 10th, 1936 to Lewis Willard Hague and Helen Harris Paterson. He graduated from Beloit College in 1958 with a degree in geology. He married Jeane Belcher Adkins on December 20th, 1958 and traveled the Midwest while working for the US Geological Survey from 1958-1964. In 1964, he became the Dickinson County Kansas Highway Administrator where he worked until his retirement in 1994. In the early 1990s, he was awarded the Kansas County Engineer of the Year award. From 1968 to the early 1990s, Jim was a volunteer fireman for the City of Abilene KS. He also owned and operated two businesses in Abilene, the Eastlawn Mobile Home Park and the Magic Needle Fabric Store. In retirement, he stocked groceries for West’s County Mart and seemed to talk with everyone, often telling his “dad” jokes.

Jim could often be seen around Abilene in his antique cars, Mustangs, or just running. While running in the winter, he always wore red sweats and a Santa hat, causing questions about why Santa was so thin. He was constantly tracking his performance on the Kansas age group records and finished series of marathons by running the Boston Marathon. He ran the Tinman Triathlon near Topeka for many years.

He is survived by his brother Douglas Hague of Pittsford, NY; four children, Marjory Hague-Ostman and husband Larry of Millville, CA; Jeannette Luedke and husband Tom of Berryton, KS; Kathleen McKee of Manhattan, KS; and Douglas Hague and wife Lynette of Indian Trail, NC, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his wife Jeane, his sister Linda Schumitzky, and his parents.

Cremation is planned and private inurnment will be at a later date in Abilene Cemetery. Jim’s family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Friday June 16th at the Abilene Senior Center. Elaine Rita Everhart, age 90, of Manhattan, died June 10, 2023, at her residence.

She was born March 20, 1933, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Frank and Myrtle (Rizzo) Giorno. She was raised and baptized in the Catholic Church.

She was married to Richard Raymond Meyer in 1960 in Chicago, IL. They divorced in 1974. She later married Gary Everhart in 1984, in Arizona, and he preceded her in death in 1991.

Elaine graduated from Proviso High School and earned her Medical Coding Certification.

She worked in home health for the Mesa Lutheran Hospital and then in medical equipment sales.

Elaine was a longtime volunteer for hospice.

She loved to dance to country music at the V.F.W and Eagles, enjoyed knitting and loved all animals.

Survivors include her three children: Eileen Ann Meyer of Manhattan, Theodore Michael Meyer of Mesa, AZ, and Paula Schmitt and her husband William of Manhattan/Burlington Illinois; and three grandchildren: Joshua Travis Meyer Phoenix, AZ, Faith Elizabeth Meyer of Scottsdale AZ and Tyler Jaymes Meyer of Manhattan.

Elaine was also preceded in death by her three siblings: Joseph Giorno, Tomasine Brannan and Frank Giorno.

Delbert Straub passed away peacefully with his sisters at his side at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, KS, June 12, 2023. He was born to Carl and Gertrude (Gros) Straub July 11, 1936, at their home on the farm west of Flush, Kansas.

After graduating high school at Flush Delbert enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was sent to Keesler Air Force Base at Biloxi, Mississippi to be trained as a radio intercept operator. He served his country for over 23 years, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. The majority of his tenure was overseas. He was assigned to tours in Japan, Korea, England, Scotland, and Germany.

While stationed in Scotland he met the love of his life in Iris Swanston. He and Iris were married November 15, 1958 and enjoyed sixty years together. Four children were born to this union: Yvonne, David, Jeanette and Karen.

After retiring from the Air Force in 1977, Delbert and Iris moved their family to rural Wamego, where he enjoyed country life with horses, goats, chickens and gardening. Delbert worked part time selling real estate for Century 21 for a few years before devoting himself to his full-time job as electrician for Kansas State University, where he worked for 21 years before retiring.

Delbert also donated his time and skills to his church and community. He did extensive electrical work for St. Joseph Parish at Flush, doing the electrical work when the parish hall was renovated, as well as several projects at the church building itself. He took his opportunity to serve as director of religious education seriously, earnestly serving in that capacity several years until illness made it impossible to continue. He volunteered at Community Health Center in Wamego. He took pride in placing flags on veteran’s graves in the Flush cemetery.

Delbert was a faithful, active member of the Knights of Columbus, serving his local chapter at Flush holding offices, including Grand Knight. He also served on the state level, serving as State Warden in 2003-2004.

Delbert had a dry sense of humor and a heart warming smile. He was a loving, tender hearted, compassionate man who was always concerned in the well being of his wife, his children, grandchildren and extended family. In spite of suffering with multiple myeloma and kidney dialysis for over five years Delbert maintained a positive attitude with faith in God and hope that tomorrow would be better.

Family members preceding Delbert in death are his parents, his wife, his brother Dennis, and brothers-in-law Marvin Geisler and Carrol Dekat. His survivors are his children: Yvonne (John) Bish; David (Heidi); Jeanette (Kevin) Siebert; and Karen Guzman. &nbsp;Surviving grandchildren are Steven Bish; Eric, Evan, Nick and Catherine Siebert; Olivia and Vanessa Guzman; sisters Carleen Dekat; Rita Glotzbach and brother-in-law Merle; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who mourn his loss.

Delbert was a man of integrity. The world is a better place for his having been here. As so many have told the family: “Delbert was a good man.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 19th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Flush.&nbsp; &nbsp;Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic cemetery. &nbsp;

A visitation will be held Sunday, June 18th at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and may be left in the care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O.  </figure>Delbert Straub passed away peacefully with his sisters at his side at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, KS, June 12, 2023. He was born to Carl and Gertrude (Gros) Straub July 11, 1936, at their home on the farm west of Flush, Kansas.After graduating high school at Flush Delbert enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was sent to Keesler Air Force Base at Biloxi, Mississippi to be trained as a radio intercept operator. He served his country for over 23 years, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. The majority of his tenure was overseas. He was assigned to tours in Japan, Korea, England, Scotland, and Germany.While stationed in Scotland he met the love of his life in Iris Swanston. He and Iris were married November 15, 1958 and enjoyed sixty years together. Four children were born to this union: Yvonne, David, Jeanette and Karen.After retiring from the Air Force in 1977, Delbert and Iris moved their family to rural Wamego, where he enjoyed country life with horses, goats, chickens and gardening. Delbert worked part time selling real estate for Century 21 for a few years before devoting himself to his full-time job as electrician for Kansas State University, where he worked for 21 years before retiring.Delbert also donated his time and skills to his church and community. He did extensive electrical work for St. Joseph Parish at Flush, doing the electrical work when the parish hall was renovated, as well as several projects at the church building itself. He took his opportunity to serve as director of religious education seriously, earnestly serving in that capacity several years until illness made it impossible to continue. He volunteered at Community Health Center in Wamego. He took pride in placing flags on veteran’s graves in the Flush cemetery.Delbert was a faithful, active member of the Knights of Columbus, serving his local chapter at Flush holding offices, including Grand Knight. He also served on the state level, serving as State Warden in 2003-2004.Delbert had a dry sense of humor and a heart warming smile. He was a loving, tender hearted, compassionate man who was always concerned in the well being of his wife, his children, grandchildren and extended family. In spite of suffering with multiple myeloma and kidney dialysis for over five years Delbert maintained a positive attitude with faith in God and hope that tomorrow would be better.Family members preceding Delbert in death are his parents, his wife, his brother Dennis, and brothers-in-law Marvin Geisler and Carrol Dekat. His survivors are his children: Yvonne (John) Bish; David (Heidi); Jeanette (Kevin) Siebert; and Karen Guzman. &nbsp;Surviving grandchildren are Steven Bish; Eric, Evan, Nick and Catherine Siebert; Olivia and Vanessa Guzman; sisters Carleen Dekat; Rita Glotzbach and brother-in-law Merle; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who mourn his loss.Delbert was a man of integrity. The world is a better place for his having been here. Delbert Straub

Larry Lesline, 71, of Alma, Kansas, passed away on Sunday (June 11, 2023) at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

Born July 8, 1951 in Wamego, Kansas, Larry was the son of Vernon and Nyla (Palenske) Lesline. He married Elizabeth Rae "Betty" Mock on September 28, 1974 in Newbury, Kansas. She survives.

Larry was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, fishing, camping, and tending to his large vegetable garden. He also enjoyed studying finance and dabbling in the stock market.

&nbsp;An accomplished carpenter and millwright, Larry built his home and loved helping his children with any home repairs and renovations. His greatest joys were following his children and grandchildren's activities. Many miles were put on their Chevy going to almost every sporting event, concert, birthday party, science fair, graduation, and everything in between. A familiar sight at these events was seeing Larry with his wife Betty sitting in the bleachers or lawn chairs proudly watching their family.

Larry was a member of Carpenter's Union Local 1445 and was employed as a millwright superintendent for several companies in the Topeka area. He worked 25 years with Senne Construction company until his retirement in 2013.

Survivors include his wife, Betty: three daughters, Mindy Ketchum (Eric) of Topeka, KS, Emily Graham (Joel) of McPherson, KS and Becky Bruna (Brett) of Hanover, KS; a son Michael Lesline of Kingman, KS; nine grandchildren, Jason Ketchum, Chris Ketchum, Lilly Ketchum, Chase Bruna, Cooper Bruna, Cole Bruna, Creighton Bruna, Caylee Bruna and Collins Bruna; two brothers Hank Lesline (Kathy) of Shawnee, KS and Dan Lesline of Alma, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a brother in infancy; a sister, Christina Lesline; and a nephew, Joshua Lesline.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday morning (June 20th, 2023) at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Newbury with Father Swamy Nannam officiating. &nbsp;Burial with Military Honors by the U. S. Army Funeral Honors Detail and the Alma American Legion Post No. 32 will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Visitation will be held Monday evening (June 19th, 2023) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A rosary service will be held Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the church following visitation.

Together they raised two daughters and were married for almost 50 years. Anyone who knew George knew his sarcastic sense of humor. He was a huge Raiders football fan and enjoyed watching western movies and fishing videos. George was the very first male telephone operator in Junction City and dispatch for Fort Riley. George is survived by his loving wife, Judy Smith, his daughters, Mary Pope of Junction City, Kansas, Julie Smith of Junction City, Kansas; four grandchildren, Tyler Pope of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Nicholas Pope of Beacon, Iowa, Nathaniel Smith, Kaylie Snyder; and two great grandchildren, Mazikeen Pope, Alexandra Pope. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. He has wanted and said he was ready for this day to come. Destani Marie Culler, 31, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on June 10, 2023, after a three year battle with Lupus. Cremation will take place. Destani loved to shop for anything for her family. She loved spending time with her family. Destani's smile was infectious. She was very loving and kind hearted. Her kids were her entire world. She also enjoyed spending time at the lake. Katherine “Katie” Gibson Fritz, age 57, of Wamego, Kansas passed away at Home of the Flint Hills in St. George, Kansas on Sunday June 11, 2023.

Katie was born on August 9,1965 in Bradford, Pennsylvania to George and Marie Gibson. She graduated from Weiner High School in Weiner, Arkansas in 1983 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois in 1987. She then earned a Master of Arts to Degree in Public Administration from Texas A&amp;M University in College Station Texas in 1990. She subsequently worked as an economic development coordinator in Giddings, TX, recycling coordinator for the cities of Grand Prairie, TX and College Station, TX and as Greenways Manager for the city of College Station, TX.

Katie met her husband, Allan Fritz, in College Station, TX where they were married on September 27, 1997. Katie and Allan moved to Manhattan, KS in 2000 and shortly thereafter started their family. Katie had two sons, Jeremy and Aaron. In this stage of life, Katie focused on her family but was anything but a stay-at-home Mom, organizing playgroups, trips to the library and myriad other activities.

Katie lived life to the full. She was passionate about her faith and working with kids. She taught Sunday School and worked with youth groups at most every church she ever attended. She was also passionate about giving kids a great start through reading. She organized book drives to put books in the hands of any kid that wanted one. She also loved to serve others. She frequently organized teacher appreciation events, family gatherings and outings with friends and loved ones. Katie fiercely loved her family and friends.

Katie especially enjoyed playing all kinds of games. She loved hosting her Bunco group and playing board games with family and friends. She was especially adept at bending the rules, not hesitating to make up new rules if they helped her win! Katie also loved to travel and go on adventures with her family. Above all, Katie possessed a deep and abiding faith in her Savior Jesus Christ. She had an unshakable confidence that God would always come through. Her faith enabled her to maintain a positive outlook throughout her bout with frontotemporal dementia and she is now enjoying being in His presence.

Katie was preceded in death by her father, George Gibson Jr.; she is survived by her mother, Marie Gibson of College Station, Texas, her brothers Brian (Catherine) Gibson and Andy (Amanda) Gibson, both of College Station, Texas, her husband, Allan Fritz and her sons Jeremy (Bailey) Fritz of Manhattan, Kansas and Aaron (Mary) Fritz of Lawrence, Kansas.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday July 1, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Manhattan Church, 1921 Barnes Rd, Manhattan, KS.

Katherine “Katie” Gibson Fritz

Brett Owen Bishop, 78, passed away on June 6, 2023, after a valiant fight with cancer. He was born on March 11, 1945, to James and Erica Bishop in Manhattan, KS. Brett is predeceased by brother, James Denver Bishop, Jr; father, James Denver Bishop, Sr; and mother, Erica Weinmeister Bishop. He is survived by his wife, Doris of Junction City, KS; son, James of Orlando, FL; son, Michael (Sunny); grandchildren, Vivienne and Jaxson of Honolulu, HI; and sister, Patricia (Carl) of Seattle, WA. Brett grew up in rural Nebraska. Part of his childhood was spent in “old” and “new” Republican City. The building of Harlan County Dam required that the town be moved a few miles to the northeast. Hunting, fishing, and Nebraska football games were pastimes. He attended Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, MN, and joined the United States Army afterwards in February 1964. He served in Korea; had several tours in Vietnam, where he received a purple heart; and had several tours in Germany. He met his wife, Doris Heinle in the Spring of ‘79 at a restaurant in Augsburg while serving in Germany. They had two sons, James and Michael. Both sons graduated from Junction City High School. Michael is actively serving in the United States Air Force (17 years) as a Master Sergeant with the 647th Civil Engineer Squadron and James is a Software Support Specialist for Cushman &amp; Wakefield (16 years), actively serving as a Pavements &amp; Equipment Operator in the Florida Air National Guard as a Technical Sergeant with the 202nd RED HORSE Squadron (8 years) and the Treasurer of his local Home Owners Association. Brett retired as a 1st Sergeant from the U.S. Army in 1984, and later became a government civil servant on the artillery range at Fort Riley. He was an involved father driving the boys to their football games, countless wrestling matches and track meets around the state, all to the tunes of Neil Diamond. Brett and Doris stayed in the Junction City area for many reasons, but his love for drag racing kept him grounded to the soil he knew best. His claim to fame was when his dragster broke the IHRA elapsed time World Record in 1972 and 1973. He also had a love for old Ford Fairlanes, which would explain why he was not too pleased when his sister wrecked his ‘67 Fairlane when they were younger. Most recently, he proudly showed off his ‘66 Fairlane any chance he got and won numerous car show events. When not "messing" with cars, he was an avid pool player in his pastime. He was the type of father that believed in tough love and didn’t tolerate any nonsense. He had a deep voice and stern demeanor that commanded respect. He took pride in providing for his family and teaching his kids the value of hard work and discipline Growing up with him could be challenging at times, but his love was unwavering. He was always offering guidance and advice, even if it wasn’t what we wanted to hear. He taught us to stand up for ourselves and to never settle for less than we deserved. Despite his tough exterior, he had a tender heart that he often showed in small ways. Whether it was going on road trips through the Black Hills and stopping at every Go-Kart track there was along the way, fishing trips to Council Grove and baiting our first hook with minnows , the occasional shalacking he gave us by running the table in a game of 8-Ball or a welcome home lunch at Texas Roadhouse, he always found ways to show his love. As we got older, we began to appreciate all that he had done for us and the sacrifices he had made to make sure we were well taken care of. Although he may not have been the warmest or most affectionate father, he showed his love through his actions and his unwavering commitment to our family. Overall, Brett tried his best to be a good husband and provider for our family. In recent years, he's become more open and affectionate to me since his cancer diagnosis, which I truly appreciate. We've learned to communicate better and find ways to enjoy our time together as a married couple of nearly 44 years. Marriage is not always easy, but it's worth working through the challenges and growing together. I will always love Brett and am grateful of our life together till the end. Brett was a member of the DAV, Eagles 830, and American Legion Post 45. A memorial service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home, 203 N Washington St, Junction City, KS, on June 23rd at 12 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Brett grew up in rural Nebraska. Part of his childhood was spent in “old” and “new” Republican City. The building of Harlan County Dam required that the town be moved a few miles to the northeast. Hunting, fishing, and Nebraska football games were pastimes. He attended Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, MN, and joined the United States Army afterwards in February 1964. He served in Korea; had several tours in Vietnam, where he received a purple heart; and had several tours in Germany. He met his wife, Doris Heinle in the Spring of ‘79 at a restaurant in Augsburg while serving in Germany. They had two sons, James and Michael. Both sons graduated from Junction City High School. Michael is actively serving in the United States Air Force (17 years) as a Master Sergeant with the 647th Civil Engineer Squadron and James is a Software Support Specialist for Cushman &amp; Wakefield (16 years), actively serving as a Pavements &amp; Equipment Operator in the Florida Air National Guard as a Technical Sergeant with the 202nd RED HORSE Squadron (8 years) and the Treasurer of his local Home Owners Association. Brett retired as a 1st Sergeant from the U.S. Army in 1984, and later became a government civil servant on the artillery range at Fort Riley. He was an involved father driving the boys to their football games, countless wrestling matches and track meets around the state, all to the tunes of Neil Diamond. Brett and Doris stayed in the Junction City area for many reasons, but his love for drag racing kept him grounded to the soil he knew best. His claim to fame was when his dragster broke the IHRA elapsed time World Record in 1972 and 1973. He also had a love for old Ford Fairlanes, which would explain why he was not too pleased when his sister wrecked his ‘67 Fairlane when they were younger. Most recently, he proudly showed off his ‘66 Fairlane any chance he got and won numerous car show events. When not "messing" with cars, he was an avid pool player in his pastime. He was the type of father that believed in tough love and didn’t tolerate any nonsense. He had a deep voice and stern demeanor that commanded respect. He took pride in providing for his family and teaching his kids the value of hard work and discipline Growing up with him could be challenging at times, but his love was unwavering. He was always offering guidance and advice, even if it wasn’t what we wanted to hear. He taught us to stand up for ourselves and to never settle for less than we deserved. Despite his tough exterior, he had a tender heart that he often showed in small ways. Whether it was going on road trips through the Black Hills and stopping at every Go-Kart track there was along the way, fishing trips to Council Grove and baiting our first hook with minnows , the occasional shalacking he gave us by running the table in a game of 8-Ball or a welcome home lunch at Texas Roadhouse, he always found ways to show his love. As we got older, we began to appreciate all that he had done for us and the sacrifices he had made to make sure we were well taken care of. Although he may not have been the warmest or most affectionate father, he showed his love through his actions and his unwavering commitment to our family. Overall, Brett tried his best to be a good husband and provider for our family. In recent years, he's become more open and affectionate to me since his cancer diagnosis, which I truly appreciate. We've learned to communicate better and find ways to enjoy our time together as a married couple of nearly 44 years. Marriage is not always easy, but it's worth working through the challenges and growing together. I will always love Brett and am grateful of our life together till the end. Brett was a member of the DAV, Eagles 830, and American Legion Post 45. Judith Elaine Closson, age 70, formerly of Manhattan, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas.&nbsp; She was born on June 18, 1952 in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of Benjamin and Betty (Taylor) Wright.

Judy graduated from Topeka West High School in 1970.

Judy married James Russell Eklund on August 28, 1970.&nbsp; They had two children together, Emily Martin (Boerne, TX) and Eric Eklund (Goose Creek, SC).

On March 17, 1980 Judy married Roger Andrew Closson, they enjoyed 39 years of marriage and had one daughter, Rebekah Schuh (Riley, KS). He preceded her in death on February 2, 2020.

Judy earned her Associate Degree in Nursing (RN) from Barton Community College in 1991.&nbsp; She started her nursing career in Topeka, KS.&nbsp; She was a nurse in many different facilities including Newman Regional Health in Emporia, KS and retired from Manhattan Surgical Center in 2017. Judy was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Manhattan, KS.&nbsp; Her and Roger traveled the United States and abroad as well as partaking in many different fishing and camping adventures. Most of all Judy loved spending time with her family and friends, most importantly her grandkids.&nbsp; She loved watching the grandkids participate in their many activities and athletic events.

She is survived by three children, Emily Martin (Vick) of Boerne, Texas, Eric Eklund (Marie) of Goose Creek, South Carolina and Beka Schuh (Brian) of Riley, Kansas; one brother, Daniel Wright of Lincoln, Nebraska and six grandchildren, Dylan Eklund, Asher Eklund, Braxton Schuh, Brogan Schuh, Blaine Schuh and Bladen Schuh.

In addition to her husband, Roger Closson, she was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on June 15, 2023 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery outside of Manhattan.

Dena M. Davis, age 97, of Manhattan, died June 10, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

She was born March 22, 1926, in Delta, Colorado, the daughter of Walter and Eleanor (Gilmer) Beckley.

On April 16, 1947, in Manhattan, she was married to Dale E. Davis. Mr. Davis preceded her in death on January 16, 2008.

Dena was an excellent homemaker and was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting afghans, was an avid reader, collecting Avon bottles and Tupperware, and canned a lot of the produce from their garden.

Survivors include her three children: Michael Davis and his wife Leslie, Kay Poindexter and Scott Davis all of Manhattan; three grandchildren: Lindsay Davis Mack (Jonathan), Breanna Davis (Zack) and Alexandra McNeil (Nick); and two great-grandchildren: Jayce and Maddex McClennan.

Dena was also preceded in death by her son-in-law Max Poindexter; four brothers: Gilmer, Bill, George and Walter Beckley; and two sisters: KateButler and Marylee Edson.

The family would like to thank Ascension Via Christi Village for the wonderful care.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p .m. Thursday, June 15th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Mary Jeanette Remus, 91, of Manhattan, KS, passed away&nbsp; Friday, June 2nd, at Good Shepherd Hospice House. She was the the head of the Trust Department for Intrust Bank in Wichita, KS.,

Born in Troy, Missouri on July 10, 1931, the daughter of the late Henry Harlow and Janet (Elder) Hahn. She graduated from the Oberlin High School in Oberlin, Kansas, an attended and graduated with a Bachelor degree in business and accounting from Kansas State University. Mary was a past member of the O.E.S. in Cawker City, Kansas.

Mary is survived by her son, Michael L. (Genevieve) Remus, of Manhattan, and Dolores, CO. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian Remus, Peggy Sue Remus, Brock Remus; 6 great grandchildren, Emrie Remus, Hayden Remus, Miika Polhman, Shon Polhman, Syman Polhman, Harper Polhman.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, son: Mark Harlow, her brother: Harold Hahn, her sisters, Elizabeth Duffy, Virginia Poter, and a grandson, Christopher William Remus.

Paul Bernard Seiwald, 93, of Centralia, Kansas, formerly of Vermillion, died Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the Eastridge Nursing Facility. &nbsp;He was a long-time resident of the area.

Paul was born on January 7, 1930, in Eudora, Kansas, the son of Berthold and Martha (Schehrer) Seiwald. &nbsp;He graduated from Eudora High School in 1948 and studied chemistry at Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Missouri. &nbsp;Paul served in the United States Army serving in South Korea during the Korean Conflict, where he achieved the rank of sergeant and was awarded two Bronze Stars.

Paul married Mary Catherine Kennedy on June 18, 1960, in Lillis, Kansas. &nbsp;After nearly 59 years with their lives intertwined, Mary preceded him in death on April 29, 2019.

Paul had a career as a research chemist at Midwest Research Institute. &nbsp;In 1983, he retired and moved with Mary to a small farm in Vermillion.

There he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lillis, where he served as a Church Council member. &nbsp;After the church closed, Paul, has been a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort. &nbsp;Paul had many interests. &nbsp;He was an avid player of Horseshoes, loved to play golf and fish, and he and Mary’s gardens were well known in the community.

But Paul’s real passion was painting. A self-taught artist, Paul completed over 300 paintings and sculptures throughout his life. His style of painting has been compared to Thomas Hart Benton, Salvador Dali and Dr. Seuss. &nbsp;Instead of painting on canvas, he painted on plywood panels prepared and textured with wood putty. He also created the frames for his paintings. &nbsp;His landscape paintings often feature an old red barn with surreal trees and barbed-wire fence posts. &nbsp;Paul painted mainly for his own satisfaction &nbsp; .

Paul is survived by his daughter, Karen Faust of Olathe; his grandchildren, Daniel Faust, Olathe and Leah Duncan (Tanner) of Wichita; his siblings, Dee Seiwald (Barb), Eudora, and Mary Hennessy, Jacksonville, Florida; his sister-in-law, Barbara Seiwald, and his nieces, nephews and friends. &nbsp;Paul was also preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Kevin Faust, and a brother, Don Seiwald.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Frankfort, Kansas. &nbsp;Father Reginald Saldanha will be the Celebrant. &nbsp;The family will greet friends from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, at the church, prior to the Mass. &nbsp;A Rosary prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. &nbsp;Paul’s body will be cremated following the Mass and inurned in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lillis at a later date. &nbsp;Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, and those may be sent in care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.&nbsp;

Tamzen Adair “Steege” Shupe, 63, of Alma, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday (June 7, 2023) at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.&nbsp;

Born November 9, 1959 in Clay Center, Kansas, Tamzen was the daughter of Jerry and Ann (Norquist) Kendrick. &nbsp;She married Harold Steege on November 6, 1993 in Alma, Kansas. &nbsp;He preceded her in death on April 17, 2014. &nbsp;She married Kevin Shupe on June 30, 2020 in Circleville, Kansas. &nbsp;He survives.

Tamzen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Alma. &nbsp;She enjoyed crocheting, her car rides with Kevin and taking care of the animals on the farm. &nbsp;She cherished the time she shared with her family, especially her grandchildren. &nbsp;She will be remembered for her cooking and baking and her skill at decorating cakes and cookies.

She was employed for many years as a custodian for USD 329 in Alma. &nbsp;Tamzen was also employed for Janice’s Cakes and Cookies as a baker and decorator.

Survivors include her husband, Kevin; two sons, William Davies (Misty) of Miltonvale, KS and Colt Davies (Michael) of Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren, Robert, Thomas (Jordan), Dallas, Dominic, Daniel, Derrick, Nicole, Violet and Kyle; her mother, Ann Kipp of Miltonvale, KS; a brother, Bill Kendrick (Anita) of Edson, KS; a step daughter, Leslie Shupe (Michael Stover) of Houston, TX; a step son, Tye Shupe (Chelsea) of Circleville, KS; an Aunt, Mary Kendrick of Lyons, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Harold Steege; an Aunt, Sharon Aldridge (Don) and an Uncle, Dave Kendrick.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home.&nbsp; &nbsp;No services are planned.

Tamzen Adair “Steege” Shupe

Taylor Ray Dean, 29, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away May 26, 2023 at his home.&nbsp; Taylor was born May 22nd, 1994 to Randy and Diana Dean.&nbsp; He was baptized on Father’s Day, 1994 at Immanual Lutheran Church in Junction City, KS and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Abilene, KS.&nbsp; Taylor was a proud 5th generation Kansan and a 3rd generation union construction worker.

Taylor attended USD 475 school and graduated from Junction City High in 2012.&nbsp; He was always so proud to say, “I’m from Junction City. Once a Blue Jay, Always a Blue Jay!” In 2003 Taylor received the Certificate of Merit for the first annual Tom Coberstein Creative Science Award. He scored the top score in the state of Kansas on the first History assessment given to 8th graders in 2008.&nbsp; He was involved in JCJBA; 12 years of 4-H, including many grand champion ribbons and 4-H king in 2009; football, wrestling, golf, JC Singers, honors choir.&nbsp; When he was 12 he traveled to Australia for 2 weeks with People to People Ambassador group.

Taylor was an avid KSU supporter and loved everything K-State from the time he was a young child.&nbsp; He began his college life at Kansas State University in 2012 where he was a member of the Air Force ROTC, Beta Sig Fraternity, K-State Dems.&nbsp; He initially was majoring in Mechanical Engineering.&nbsp; He quickly realized that the ME path lead to corporate greed and ruining the earth.&nbsp; He switched majors to his passion:&nbsp; History/Political Science.&nbsp; He graduated with his BS in 2022 where he proudly held his diploma high.

In April of 2022 Taylor threw his hat in the political ring and ran for 3rd District Kansas House.&nbsp; Shortly before the start of the primaries, he was gerrymandered out of the district that he had lived for 3 years.&nbsp; He worked hard on his campaign.&nbsp; He was defeated by less than 400 votes in a district he only knew for just a short time.

Taylor was an amazing chef and baker and loved sharing his creations with his family and friends.&nbsp; He cared deeply about the earth and fought against those who only worried about the bottom dollar, not what they destroyed in the process.&nbsp; He was always concerned about his fellow people, especially the poor.&nbsp; Taylor always had a case of water in his car and a $10 bill in his pocket, should he come across someone in need he could offer them water and enough to buy a meal.

Taylor was involved in strikes throughout the Mid-West to include John Deere, Frito Lay, Nurses, Autoworkers, Fast Food Workers, Star Bucks, Sheet Metal Workers P1, and any other union or group that needed his support, no matter what union.&nbsp; He was always there in unity for his union brothers and sisters.&nbsp; He was involved in Wyandotte County TNR, where he met his beautiful fur-baby, Leon.&nbsp; He was a proud member of LiUNA Local #1290 and worked on many building projects throughout the region including NBAF, Panasonic, Facebook, Cerner, and many others.&nbsp; In 2012 he joined the Poor Peoples’ campaign to Washington, DC to protest against the elimination of Social Security and Medicare.&nbsp; He helped out in both the James Thompson, Wichita, and Brett Welder, Kansas City, campaigns for US House, where he was a Super Volunteer, knocking on tens of thousands of doors.&nbsp; He was an avid supporter of “Vote No for Prop A” in Missouri where he again knocked on thousands of doors and made thousands of phone calls to Missouri voters.&nbsp; He was a staunch supporter of marijuana legalization, Medicaid expansion, sensible gun legislation, and fighting for those who couldn’t fight for themselves.&nbsp; Taylor was a person who would talk to anyone for his causes, no matter their status in the world.&nbsp; He was involved in JOCO Young Dems and WYCO Young Dems.

Taylor is survived by his parents, Randy &amp; Diana Dean (Junction City, KS); his grandparents Marilyn Meyer (Abilene, KS), Yvonne Taylor (Monett, MO), Donald Dean (Clarksburg, WV); uncle David (Mercedes) Taylor (Youngsville, LA);&nbsp; great- aunts and uncles Donna &amp; RW Cook (Enterprise, KS), LaVonne &amp; Marvin Smith (Silverdale, PA), Diane (Noble) Hargett (Monett, MO), Lester Gray (Abilene, KS), Sheryl Gray (Abilene, KS), Melinda Taylor (Edina, MN); his long-time friends John Pauldine (Palm Beach Gardens, FL), Courtney Robinson (Kansas City, KS), Lauren Martin (Prairie Village, KS), Tanner Pflumm (Shawnee, KS), Sage TeBeest (Ashland, OR); George Hana (Tecumseh, KS); Dani Revord (Kansas City, KS); his beloved fur-baby, Leon; and many many cousins and friends throughout the US.&nbsp;

Taylor's Celebration in Kansas City will be held on Saturday, June 17th from 10:00 to 1:00, at the IBEW #124 Union Hall, 301 E 103 Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64114. We will have a second service in Junction City, KS on June 24th from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Geary County Convention Center, Courtyard by Mariott, 310 Hammond Drive, Junction City, KS 66441.

For the Kansas City services, we are asking all his Union Brothers &amp; Sisters (no matter what union you are in) to please dress in your work clothes, whether it be your boots and high viz, nurses' scrubs, Starbucks uniform, Lay's uniforms, Autoworker's uniform, however you would dress when you go to work. That was who Taylor was. He was all-in for the working man/woman. Taylor attended USD 475 school and graduated from Junction City High in 2012.&nbsp; He was always so proud to say, “I’m from Junction City. Once a Blue Jay, Always a Blue Jay!” In 2003 Taylor received the Certificate of Merit for the first annual Tom Coberstein Creative Science Award. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Debra Ann Hiett in Manhattan, KS on April 24, 2023.&nbsp;

Debra was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy (Schroth) Hanson, and father, Dean Hanson along with her brothers, Douglas and David Hanson. Debra is survived by her son, Rod (Julie) Hiett and daughter, Amy Hiett; brother Dirk (Karen) Hanson; brother, Drew (Brenda) Hanson; brother, Dane (Brenda) Hanson; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews; and a host of friends who will miss her.

A funeral service will take place 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2023 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Junction City. A graveside service will follow the funeral at 1:00 p.m. at the Prospect Hill Cemetery near Blue Rapids, Kansas. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday evening at Johnson Funeral Home in Junction City. Rashel was born May 17, 1986, in Marysville, Kansas the daughter of Katherine May (Little) Dowd and George Lee Dowd. Rashel had a caring nature and big heart. She enjoyed helping and assisting people in need. She was known for her generosity, kindness and acceptance of others. Her greatest accomplishment in life was her daughter Shante'e Dowd. Survivors include her mother Katherine Krunze of Waterville, Kansas; one daughter, Shante'e Dowd of Junction City, Kansas; two sisters, Kelly Bell of Waterville, Kansas and Kim Krunze of Blue Rapids, Kansas; six nieces, Lilly, Lizzy, Mayme, LeeAndra, Serenity and Leeah; two nephews, Mitchell and Macon. A graveside service with full military honors will take place on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post #45, 201 E. 4th Street, Junction City, Kansas 66441. He was born on November 17, 1946, in Manning, Arkansas, to Marvin and Velma (Arnold) Leamons. Phillip served in the United States Army for 27 years. After active duty retirement, he obtained his bachelor's degree in Business Administration at Manhattan Christian College. He continued his career on Fort Riley as a Human Resource Specialist for over 20 years. On May 18, 1974, he married Sandra Leamons in Bartonville, Illinois. They were married almost 50 years. Phillip was an avid bowler and enjoyed coaching youth bowling in Junction City and Fort Riley. He was a member of American Legion Post #45 and American Bowling Association. Phillip's favorite past time was teaching his grandchildren ways to torment their mothers. He also never went anywhere without a book. Phillip is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; his three daughters, Tanya Carpenter of Junction City, Kansas, Deborah (Douglas) Minner of Hutchinson, Kansas, Ann (Blake) Klug of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, Sheila (Marty) Somerville of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two siblings, Clayton "Tony" and Sharon; and his daughter, Marina.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He passed away on June 6, 2023 at his home in Junction City. Joel started working for Central National Bank in Junction City while he was in high school. He celebrated his 19th anniversary with the bank recently. He started in IT then moved to Facilities and ATM Support. His work family was important to him. He was an avid Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He loved driving the tractor and grain cart and was present at every harvest on the family farm north of Chapman. He is survived by his loving parents Dennis and Cheryl Zumbrunn of rural Chapman, sister Alicia Kingsley and her husband Chris of Maynard, Minnesota, grandparents Dale and Eleanor Correll of Abilene, aunts Sally Nelson of Abilene, Cindy Krehbiel and her husband John of McPherson, Debbie Tasker and her husband Russ of Abilene, Sue Hite and her husband Rich of Chapman, Carolyn Gill of Lawrence, and Cindy Zumbrunn of Abilene. Mark was born on June 10th, 1955 in Sabetha, Kansas, to Bill and Mellie Thornburrow. He attended Eugene Field Elementary and graduated from Manhattan High School with Class of 1973.&nbsp; After graduation, Mark worked alongside Doug Marker, Marker construction, for several&nbsp; years. From 1979-2012, Mark worked both locations at Audio Junction, with Dave and Jerry, his brothers. Mark installed home and commercial audio and video equipment, car stereo and boat systems. He was highly respected for his knowledge and expertise in personalizing the needs of those who entered AJ’s doors.

On June 2, 1984, Mark was united in marriage to Rhonda Noel, at the Peace Lutheran in Manhattan. On February 7th, 1994, the best part of their life together began with the birth of their son, Mitchell Noel Thornburrow. Mark shared his love of racing, motorcycles, fishing and boating with Mitch. At 2 1/2, Mitch was already holding a fishing pole. When Mitch was five, Mark bought a fat wheel motorcycle and a four wheeler. Using a machete, Mark cleared a trail in the back of their house. They were able to share wonderful trips together, which also included family and friends. Mark’s favorite trip was experiencing several weeks in Kenya, Africa. Tuttle Creek boating with family and friends encompassed so much of his life. Mark and his brother Dave, shared many a boat during their life. Mark enjoyed attending F1 and Indy races with his close friend, Stew Zimmerman. He enjoyed hunting and trapshooting with his brother, Dave, along with Darrel Gatza. Motorcycle riding gave him weekly rides and bike trips that would include friend, Jim (JR) Rawson. Mark enjoyed the gathering of friends at Tuttle Creek over Labor Day, initiated but Lonnie and Deb Howat.

Mark is survived by Rhonda of the home; a son, Mitch N. (Ashley Roberts) Thornburrow, of Kansas City, MO; his mother Mellie (Craig) Thornburrow, of Manhattan; sister, Kay (David ) Rau, of Overland Park, Kansas; brother, David (Kim) Thornburrow, of Camdenton, MO. and sister in law, Carol (Young) Thornburrow of Manhattan. Most importantly, to his many nieces and nephews, whom he adored in being, Uncle Mark. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Thornburrow and his brother Jerry Thornburrow.

In lieu of flowers, family has requested contributions to Cattails, Purple Power Animal Welfare Society and Flint Hills Breadbasket and may be sent to the funeral home.

His family has selected cremation and will be having a family graveside service.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life will be early fall and will be announced later by the family and Carlson's Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan.

Mark (Mac) Craig Thornburrow

Perry Cecil Stevenson was born on February 14th 1961 in Potsdam New York.

He was the youngest of three boys born to Leo Edward Stevenson and Bonnie Louise (Williams).

Perry joined the United States Army at age 18 in January of 1980. He served as a radio operator on a APC Antipersonnel carrier (track) at the US Border Operations in Germany.

While in the service he earned the Army Service Ribbon and the overseas service ribbon. Perry served for 18 months in Germany. He then came back to the united states and was stationed at Ft. Riley KS.

Perry went to church with a cousin and there he met Connie Hollingsworth.

They were happily married for 41 years and together made a beautiful family.

They had 3 children; Perry (39), Tifny (38) and Jesyca (35) (Kyle Simmons), 7 grandchildren; Jordan (23), Vanjander(17), Dorian (15), Perry III (13), Jaxon (12), Wyatt (7) and Link (1 ½), along with 2 great grandchildren, Jaylnn Jr(2) and Laura(2 weeks).

Perry was proud of his family and took every chance to see them. He also made many friends over the years and he felt blessed to count so many.

After brief residences in Kentucky and Georgia the young Stevenson family settled again in Kansas to be close to her family, Doris and Richard Hollingsworth. Playing cards, board games, reading, making up humorous songs to make his grandkids laugh were all fun pastimes, he enjoyed good cuisine, accompanied with a sweet treat. He was a good cook but always watched the clock to make sure he was able to participate with his teammates on his online games. He was always ready to take care of others. No matter what was needed he would see that it was provided. Food, warmth, conversation, advice, uplifting, prayer, a story or even just a smile.

Perry worked as a painter for Al Johnson before going to work with a local company. He retired in 2015. He remained at home with his wife from that time until now. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed any and all time spent with them.

Perry felt loved by friends and family and that meant more to him than any earthly treasures.

Perry passed after a brief illness. Memorial Services will be held at the Irvin Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan KS at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday June 11, 2023.
