&nbsp;Robert Paul Latour, 81, of Milford, Kansas, passed away on October 4, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Cremation will take place per family's wishes.

He was born on September 7, 1942, to Claude and Anita (Boivin) Latour in Ludlow, Massachusetts. Growing up, Robert worked for the family business, Latour Septic Tanks out of Springfield, Massachusetts. This is where he discovered his entrepreneurial spirit and developed his own company in the plumbing industry. Before his ventures in business, he served his country honorably by enlisting as a combat engineer (12B) for the U.S. Army. Robert and Pam were married on September 15, 1984, in Albany, Vermont and shared 39 years of marriage together.

He is survived by his loving wife; two sons, Robert Latour, Jr. (Jennifer) of Hays, Virginia and Loren Darling (Lisa) of Morrisville, Vermont; one daughter, Tina Darling (Joseph) of Chapman, Kansas; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Robert was preceded by his parents and his brother, Kenny Latour of Myrtle Beach, Florida.

Mary (Peggy) M. Welsh, 88, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on October 1, 2023, at Via Christi Nursing Home in Manhattan, Kansas. Cremation has taken place per family's request. A memorial service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home, Friday, October 13, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a committal service at Highland Cemetery.

Mary was born on June 12, 1935, to William and Helen (Flood) Collins in Junction City, Kansas. She attended Junction City High School, graduating in May of 1953. A few years after graduating, she opened "The Collins Personality School", teaching dance for three years. During this time, she married Gene Nelson and they welcomed their daughter, Peggy Jean. The family eventually relocated to Enid, Oklahoma where Peggy worked for Enid Memorial Hospital until 1976, at which time she moved back to Junction City, Kansas. She then married Jack Welsh and started "Peggy Welsh School of Dance", and teaching for many years after. After she stopped teaching dance, she worked for Gfellers Accounting, then the Geary County Treasure's office where she worked until retirement. Mary was initiated into the Eastern Star September of 1953 and was active in both Oklahoma and Kansas chapters. All together, she was a 70 year member.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Peggy Jean Hughes (Pat) of Stillwater, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Jessica Miller (Gary) of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Jeremy (J.D.) Long of Oklahoma City; one great-grandchild, Zane Miller of Stillwater, Oklahoma and her friend, Doyle Rippeto. Mary was preceded by her parents.

Anne Marie (Thompson) Pfizenmaier, 87, &nbsp;passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor. She was born July 26, 1936 at the Clay Center Hospital. She was the first child of Helen Marsh and Marvin Stevenson. She grew up on the family farm near Idana. &nbsp;

On October 28, 1956 Anne married Duaine Thompson at the Presbyterian Church in Idana. &nbsp;They were married for 47 years. &nbsp;Most of their lives together they lived 12 miles north of Clay Center on Highway 15.&nbsp;

Anne’s parents wanted her to go to Clay Center to High School. In those days there were no school buses. Her mother rented her a room in town to stay during the week. Her Mom &amp; Dad drop her off Sunday night and pick her up Friday afternoon. After school she would clean houses for spending money. The summer after graduating from Clay Center Community High School, Anne started working at the ASC office in Clay Center. She continued to work there after marrying Duaine and until her first son was born. Anne then stayed home to raise her family and help on the farm. After her boys were married and moved away she returned to the ASC office. She started as District Secretary and retired in December 2003 as District Manager.

Besides being a mother, Anne was a member of the Fact United Methodist Church and was a very active member of the Methodist Ladies Aid. Anne also drove the school bus for Clay Center public schools for a few years. After retirement she volunteered at the Red Cross &amp; Apollo Towers. Anne joined a quilting group that would gather weekly.&nbsp;

Anne and Duaine lived on the farm until Duaine passed away in 2003. Anne then moved to Clay Center. She married Stanley Pfizenmaier in 2011. She enjoyed being part of a large family with many activities. Stanley and Anne took several trips together, including trips to Germany and Alaska.

Anne was a talented cook, seamstress and bookkeeper. Her kindness towards others was unmatched and her love and loyalty towards her community was admired by all. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards with friends and quilting. Her family and friends would enjoy her marshmallow salad and roast beef on the holidays as well as many other specialties she would whip up in the kitchen.

Survivors include her 2nd husband Stanley Pfizenmaier Sr.; son, Gary Thompson and his wife Karen, of Lindsborg; son, Terry Thompson &nbsp;and wife Laura, of Talala, OK. 5 grandchildren Leslie Hecker (Gregory) of Lindsborg, KS, Jesse Thompson (Rosie) of Leander, TX, Meaghan Umbarger (Evan), Kylee Harper ( Layne) and Cassie Thompson all of Talala, OK, 10 great grandchildren, and sisters, Louise Ross of Carthage, MO and Linda Schivoni of Overland Park, KS

Anne was also preceded in death by her parents Helen &amp; Marvin Stevenson, Brothers Daniel and Lee Stevenson, and Great Granddaughter Abigail Hecker.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 15 from 2-5 p.m. at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Anne’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 16 at the Clay Center United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

Interment will be in the Parallel Cemetery in Washington County, Kansas.

Memorials can be made to the Clay Center United Methodist Church sent in in care of the funeral home.

Anne Marie (Thompson) Pfizenmaier

Oscar Wayne Greenwood, known to his friends as “Wayne,” was born to Oscar and Reva Downing Greenwood on January 21, 1938 in Willow Springs, Missouri. After a short battle with leukemia, he passed away at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas, on Saturday, October 7, 2023.

At the age of twelve, Wayne accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Willow Springs where he had perfect attendance in Sunday School throughout his youth. Since moving to Manhattan, he has been a member of College Heights Baptist Church.

Wayne graduated from Willow Springs High School with the Class of ’56 and went on to graduate from Walnut Ridge Baptist Junior College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, then completed his education at Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. During his lifetime, Wayne enjoyed many different endeavors. He farmed with his dad, taught junior high history and coached in Eldorado Springs, Missouri for 16 years, was a business owner for several years, and worked at Bass Pro until retirement.

On June 1, 1975, Wayne married Vickie Armstrong in Salem, Missouri. They have one son, Matthew Greenwood. He and his wife, Marlo, have five children – Kathryn, Cole, Luke, Reese, and Emerson. Wayne is also survived by his sister, Marjorie Cooper of Nixa, Missouri, and his nephew, Todd (Patty) Cooper of Ozark, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen Harrington of San Francisco, California.

Wayne’s interests included history, sports, hunting, fishing, and all things farm-related. He spent hours taking Matt and his horses to horse shows and has recently enjoyed seeing his grandchildren show horses. He loved being around cattle. He liked going to the sale barn each week and listening to the auctioneer, and he could tell you the price of cattle on any given day. As a former coach, he got a huge kick out of watching his grandchildren participate in sports. He was their biggest fan.

Wayne’s greatest joy came from being with his family. He was a constant source of encouragement, strength, and support to them, and he will be missed terribly.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday October 11, 2023 from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday October 11, 2023 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan. Private interment will be held at Willow Springs, Missouri.

Dorothy Jeane Lufburrow (nee Summers), age 98, of Manhattan, KS, formerly of Cheshire, CT.

Dorothy Lufburrow passed away peacefully on October 3, 2023, at Meadowlark Hills. Dot was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1925. Her family moved to Kansas where she was raised on a farm a few miles east of Manhattan, attending the Swamp Angel one room school and St. George high school. She graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in 1947, where she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority. Post graduation she worked as a buyer for Macy's in Kansas City. After marrying Peter C. Lufburrow in 1953, they moved to New Jersey for a few years and then settled permanently in Cheshire, CT where they raised three children, Douglas, Jean and Mark. Dot worked in the Cheshire School District and at Quinnipiac College as a library technician. In 1991 Dot and Pete moved to Manhattan for retirement.

Dot was an avid reader and enjoyed following Kansas State sports and watching professional baseball. She travelled extensively around the US and Canada with her daughter and made a number of trips to Europe with family and friends.

Dot was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Pete. She is survived by her three children, son Douglas of Tennessee, daughter Jean, a nomad, and son Mark and his wife Victoria of Pennsylvania. Dot was affectionately known as “Grammy” to grandsons Daniel and Matthew Lufburrow.

Dorothy Jeane Lufburrow (nee Summers)

Sharon Elaine Douthit, age 72, a longtime area resident, died September 27, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House.

She was born March 28, 1951, in Fredericktown, Missouri, the daughter of Leroy Glen and Janelle (Sanders) Wilkinson.

Sharon graduated from Manhattan High School with the Class of 1969.

She worked at Monte’s First Call cleaners on Ogden for many years. She later worked at Walmart in Junction City for several years and stopped working when Larry got sick to take care of him.

Sharon was devoted to her family and loved spoiling her grandchildren.

She was a member of the Ogden American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed playing Bingo.

She was married to Larry Delane Douthit, Sr., on September 12, 1974, in Manhattan. Larry preceded her in death on September 17, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her son Eddie Douthit and by her sister Renee Warren.

Survivors include her children: Nikki Crabtree (Kirk) of Ogden, KS, and Sean Douthit (Tish) of Salisbury, NC; grandchildren: Madison, Kennedy, Josh, Kaleb and Lucus; step-son Delane Douthit (Ronda) and family of Junction City, KS; Eddie’s two children; and four siblings: Mike Wilkinson, Jana Palmisciano, Tammy Selvidge and Timmy Wilkinson.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 27th, at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley with Chris Jacobs officiating. Family and friends are invited to meet at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home to form a procession to the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the House Café in Ogden. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.

 </figure>Sharon Elaine Douthit, age 72, a longtime area resident, died September 27, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House.She was born March 28, 1951, in Fredericktown, Missouri, the daughter of Leroy Glen and Janelle (Sanders) Wilkinson.Sharon graduated from Manhattan High School with the Class of 1969.She worked at Monte’s First Call cleaners on Ogden for many years. She later worked at Walmart in Junction City for several years and stopped working when Larry got sick to take care of him.Sharon was devoted to her family and loved spoiling her grandchildren.She was a member of the Ogden American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed playing Bingo.She was married to Larry Delane Douthit, Sr., on September 12, 1974, in Manhattan. Larry preceded her in death on September 17, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her son Eddie Douthit and by her sister Renee Warren.Survivors include her children: Nikki Crabtree (Kirk) of Ogden, KS, and Sean Douthit (Tish) of Salisbury, NC; grandchildren: Madison, Kennedy, Josh, Kaleb and Lucus; step-son Delane Douthit (Ronda) and family of Junction City, KS; Eddie’s two children; and four siblings: Mike Wilkinson, Jana Palmisciano, Tammy Selvidge and Timmy Wilkinson.Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 27th, at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley with Chris Jacobs officiating. Mrs. Orr is survived by: her mother, Marilyn Whitley of Manhattan, husband Edward Orr of The Woodlands Texas, brother Robin Whitley and his wife Kim of Lincoln, Nebraska, sister-in-law Julie Condon and husband Michael of Lake-In-Hills, Illinois, brother-in-law David Orr of Rockford Illinois, two nieces and five nephews, as well as nine great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations to plant a tree in Jills name or contribute to the staff of Wroten House at Meadowlark Hills, who took such loving and tender care of Jill for six years.

Leslie Owen Rubottom, 71, of Alma, Kansas, died Saturday, October 7, 2023, at his home. &nbsp;He was a long-time resident of the community.

Les was born on July 9, 1952, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Milton Vestal and Mariel (Holt) Rubottom. &nbsp;He attended local grade school and graduated in 1970 from Alma High School. &nbsp;Les then served for four years in the United States Air Force. &nbsp;He was stationed in Germany, Louisiana and Florida. &nbsp;Following his military service, he attended and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University.

Les’ entire career as an electrical engineer was for companies that worked with military electronics. &nbsp;He worked for Motorola in Scottsdale, Arizona for 12 years, for Flexel in Kansas for 4 years and finally for Honeywell in Kansas City for 22 years. &nbsp;He retired in 2020.

Les was a member of the Heartland Corvette Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman. &nbsp;He was a member of the Northeast Bassmasters. &nbsp;He served as a Boy Scout Leader, coached his son’s baseball team, and was involved with a mentoring program at Wabaunsee High School. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Les was a collector of stamps, coins and gemstones. He was known for his large Iris garden, helped at the K-State garden and was a member of the Flint Hills Iris Society. &nbsp;He also had a passion for decorating his home with Christmas lights each year. &nbsp;Les’ family was very important to him, and he loved attending as many of his grandchildren’s activities as possible.

Les married Diana Moege in Alma on August 5, 1972. &nbsp;After spending over fifty-one years together, Diana survives at their home.

Les is also survived by his son, Eric Rubottom (Erin), of Fort Collins, Colorado, and his daughter, Ginger Ruhnke (Matt), of St. George; his grandchildren, Camilla, Jori, Luke, and Rylan; his sister, Marilyn Garrison (Larry), of Alma; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. &nbsp;Les was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John Rubottom.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 13, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma. &nbsp;Reverend Robert Grimm will be officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. &nbsp;Les will lie-in-state on Thursday, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the church, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. &nbsp;

They suggest memorial contributions to either St. Croix Hospice or St. John Lutheran Church, and those may be sent in care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home.

Helen Lucille Miller Lietz passed into the arms of Jesus on Oct 3, 2023, in Mesquite, Texas, where she had been living. &nbsp;She is preceded in death by her husband Walter Lietz Jr, her parents Henry Carl Miller and Fannie W. Brown Miller, two sisters and a brother; Dorothy Maurer, Mayora Miller and Henry Miller III.

Helen was born on December 21, 1936, at McFarland, Kansas and grew to womanhood in the McFarland community, attending school at District 75, Wamego Public School and Hinerville. &nbsp;She graduated from Alma High School in 1954. &nbsp;Helen was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and had a lifelong faith in Jesus Christ.

Helen was united in marriage to Walter Lietz Jr on April 24, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church, McFarland, by Reverend A.B. Senne. &nbsp;Helen and “Bus” first met at a Walther League hayrack ride sponsored by the church youth group, while she was working at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Topeka, Kansas.

Helen dedicated her life to serving her community and was elected Treasurer of the Wabaunsee County Extension Council for four years, also served as a 4-H Community Leader and secretary of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Zone for four years. &nbsp;She served as a Sunday School teacher for fifteen years. &nbsp;Helen was a partner in the family farming operation on Snokomo Road, actively working beside Bus in raising and daily feeding dairy calves. &nbsp;Helen loved taking care of animals, and always delighted in accompanying Bus when he was pasturing and inspecting herds.

Walter and Helen have three children; Richard (Miriam Hicklin) Pt Richmond, CA, Diane Baxter (Palmore), Kerrville, TX, and Leslie Kramer (James), Nashville, TN and seven grandchildren; August Lietz, Dr Madeleine Horn (Wolfgang), Adler Lietz (Morgan Konechne), Laura Baxter, Sarah Baxter, Evan Kramer (Zarni de Wet), Dr Andrew Kramer (Alicia Halberg), and one great grandson, Colton James Kramer.

A private graveside service will be held at Bethlehem Cemetery at a later date.

Helen Lucille Miller Lietz

Floyd Lee Choate of Council Grove, KS, age 77, passed away on October 3, 2023, at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, KS surrounded by his family.

Floyd was born June 3, 1946, in Council Grove, Kansas, the son of Mark and Esther (Banks) Choate. &nbsp;He attended Council Grove Grade School and graduated from Council Grove High School in 1964. After graduation, Floyd worked for many years as a road construction worker for the State Highway Department. &nbsp;He married Carol (Stone) Hylton on January 16, 1964, and they were later divorced.

He had a passion for horses, he dedicated many years to raising and training all breeds. He was an avid barrel racer and competed in calf roping. He performed at many Showdeos around the Council Grove area with his children. Floyd was known for drag racing his black and white Buick that could outrun any car around Council Grove. He also loved McDonald’s, especially a spicy McChicken and a Diet Dr. Pepper, and loved chocolate-covered cherries, reading Dean Koontz and Stephen King books, the Kansas City Chiefs, and KU basketball. As a father and grandfather, his love for his family was endless. Of all his passions his greatest was his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughter, Traci (Choate) Beckett; son, Timothy (Cinta) Choate; three sisters, Mary Jones, Juanita Ogleds, and Loretta Albrecht; grandchildren, Shandra Beckett, and Zachary Beckett; and great-grandchildren, Elijah Daniels, Holden Howland, and Kiersten Beckett.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Virgil Choate, Ron Choate, William “Bill” Choate, Junior Choate, Donnie Choate, and sister, Dorothy Choate.

Elisha Valentine Pfeiffer, age 44, died September 28, 2023, in Morganville, KS. She was born on, February 14, 1979, Valentine's Day, in Manhattan, KS to Roxanne (Bolek) and Lance Pfeiffer. She completed her GED in 1996, after giving birth to her oldest son, Izic Stogsdill. Elisha began working for Combined Insurance from 1996 to 1997. She became the youngest female at age 18, with the highest scores in insurance sales, making the cover of USA TODAY magazine. Elisha then had three additional beautiful children. Michael Tracy Jr., Ellexis Tracy, and Aleana Dugan while completing her CNA. In 2018, she began working for KSU as a painter. During this she volunteered her time bringing awareness to human trafficking. She worked odd jobs, cleaning office spaces and rental homes for the rest of her short life. Elisha was loved by many. She loved helping people with any chore or task, never saying no. She loved to sing and dance to music of all genres. Elisha could charm her way into the heart of every child she met. Her enthusiasm and spirit would always captivate the hearts of those she encountered. Elisha had the nostalgia and charm that made her unforgettable and adored by everyone.&nbsp;

Elisha Valentine Pfeiffer

Deona Fay Brenner, age 88 of Randolph, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

She was born on November 10, 1934, at her family farm outside of Randolph, the daughter of Rudyard and Ella Marie (Johnson) Peterson.&nbsp; She attended Crooked Creek School, Randolph Grade School and graduated from Randolph High School.

She was married on November 16, 1952, at Walsburg Lutheran Church to Marion Paul Brenner.&nbsp; He survives of the home.

Deona was a farm wife and a member of the Peach Grove EUB Church until it closed.&nbsp; She later attended Randolph United Methodist Church and Alert Covenant Church, where she was a member of the Alert Covenant Women.&nbsp; Deona and her husband went on numerous mission trips to Nicaragua and Costa Rica, helping build churches, and later in life, liked to travel and take trips to Branson.&nbsp; She enjoyed quilting, knitting, gardening, canning, and cooking.&nbsp; She made quilts for all her grandchildren and loved spending as much time as possible with all of them.

In addition to her husband Marion, she is survived by four children; John Brenner and wife Becky of Randolph, Trudy Chaffee and husband Mike of Clay Center, Kelley Brenner of Randolph and James Brenner and wife Sue of Randolph; nine grandchildren, Jacob Brenner, Jordan Brenner (Josie), Joe Brenner, Jerod Chaffee (Amy), Luke Chaffee (Kayla), Cody Chaffee (Angie), Kaci Goff (Josh), Justin Brenner (Molly) and Caley Gallimore (Jacob); 23 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Anita Jensen of California, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Donna Flohr, and two brothers-in-law, David Brenner, and Vincent Flohr.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2023, at the Alert Covenant Church with Pastor Dwight Diller officiating.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Peach Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Alert Covenant Women.&nbsp; Contributions may be left in the care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

 </figure>Deona Fay Brenner, age 88 of Randolph, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Leonardville Nursing Home.She was born on November 10, 1934, at her family farm outside of Randolph, the daughter of Rudyard and Ella Marie (Johnson) Peterson.&nbsp; She attended Crooked Creek School, Randolph Grade School and graduated from Randolph High School.She was married on November 16, 1952, at Walsburg Lutheran Church to Marion Paul Brenner.&nbsp; He survives of the home.Deona was a farm wife and a member of the Peach Grove EUB Church until it closed.&nbsp; She later attended Randolph United Methodist Church and Alert Covenant Church, where she was a member of the Alert Covenant Women.&nbsp; Deona and her husband went on numerous mission trips to Nicaragua and Costa Rica, helping build churches, and later in life, liked to travel and take trips to Branson.&nbsp; She enjoyed quilting, knitting, gardening, canning, and cooking.&nbsp; She made quilts for all her grandchildren and loved spending as much time as possible with all of them.In addition to her husband Marion, she is survived by four children; John Brenner and wife Becky of Randolph, Trudy Chaffee and husband Mike of Clay Center, Kelley Brenner of Randolph and James Brenner and wife Sue of Randolph; nine grandchildren, Jacob Brenner, Jordan Brenner (Josie), Joe Brenner, Jerod Chaffee (Amy), Luke Chaffee (Kayla), Cody Chaffee (Angie), Kaci Goff (Josh), Justin Brenner (Molly) and Caley Gallimore (Jacob); 23 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Anita Jensen of California, and nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Donna Flohr, and two brothers-in-law, David Brenner, and Vincent Flohr.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2023, at the Alert Covenant Church with Pastor Dwight Diller officiating.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Peach Grove Cemetery.A memorial has been established for the Alert Covenant Women.&nbsp; Contributions may be left in the care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Allen “Red” Swearingen, 80, of Abilene passed away on October 1st at his home after a short illness. He was born March 21, 1943 in South Dakota to Harry and Edith (Engel) Swearingen. He attended grade school in Havana, North Dakota and his freshman year at Sheyenne River Academy in Harvey, North Dakota before returning to South Dakota. He did farm work, worked for Dakota Sealed Storage and Texaco Co. gas station all before moving to Kansas in the spring of 1963. After arriving in Kansas, he worked for Beach Carb Shop, Bill Clark laying bricks. Skelly Oil Co. and carrying the US mail. In May of 1967 he found his place at Hoff’s Machine and Welding where he spent the next 42 years doing what he loved before retiring in June of 2009. He met and married Janet M. Korn in June of 1968 but later divorced in 1980. To this union two children were born. Tami and Terry.

 Red spent his retirement years building valve cover race cars, repairing almost anything brought to him and keeping his yard immaculate. He was known by many as Red but the grandkids called him Poppa Red. He will be deeply missed by many and remembered with fondness for the many skills he passed on to those around him over the years.

 He is survived by his constant and much loved 4-legged companion Diesel, his son Terry (Charlotte) Swearingen and daughter Tami (Paul) Gaston. Also surviving are 4 grandsons Dallas (Cody) Jenne, Dylon (Patty) Jenne, Blaine Gaston and Joel Gaston and 4 great grandkids Ava Jenne, Tucker Jenne, Tripp Jenne and Owen Jenne. Two sisters Ella (Harley) Bagley and Pat Hight. One sister-in-law Rosie Swearingen. Many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his parents, two sisters Clara Kimball and Luetta Enderson. Three brothers and 2 sisters-in-law, Clarence (Thelma) Swearingen, Stanley (Jeannie) Swearingen and Harry Swearingen. In October of 2011 he also lost his long-time companion Annie Gray.

There will be a celebration of life Sunday, October 8th at 2:00 p.m. at The River a favorite place Red enjoyed hanging out at. 1271 2100 Ave. Enterprise Kansas. Dee Woolfolk passed quickly from her experiences in this world on September 27, 2023, and she entered her new, heavenly home. She was surrounded by Shap, her adoring husband of nearly 38 years, dear friends, and family. The family sincerely thanks the Manhattan, KS, Fire Department and Manhattan EMT service for their quick response and expertise. Dee would be happy with the professionalism and kindness given to her based on her jobs in various medical facilities.

Dee was born Delores Kay Olson, August, 30, 1939, and always looked vibrant, and many admired her energy. Born in Mitchell, SD, she shared close-knit family experiences and events through Delmar and Dorothy Olson, her parents, and Don Olson, her brother. She is blessed with a group of six special cousins, one of whom she shares the exact birthday. She was preceded in passing by her parents and brother.

Friendships with many fine people from South Dakota were enjoyed and remembered through her life.

Dee graduated from Mitchell High School and attended the University of South Dakota, taking art and lab tech courses.

She returned to Mitchell in 1959 to work for a doctors’ office and met Willard “Willy” Hubbard. They wed in 1961 and were married until his passing.

Dee met Shap Woolfolk at church in Olathe, KS, and they shared many interests. They married in 1985 surrounded by their blended family. They lived in Olathe, Osage City, and Manhattan.

Homemaker, friend, neighbor, wife, mother, and a member of the Lutheran Church and Nazarene Church during her life, Dee also enjoyed watching sports. For 37 years, Dee and Shap have been “enthusiastic” fans of the Kansas State Wildcats, K.C. Chiefs, and the St. Louis Cardinals. This brought many, many smiles to their faces. They took many motorcycle trips together, including to Sturgis, SD, rallies and road with the Manhattan Blue Valley Riders which provided lasting friendships.

Dee and Shap have enjoyed their retirement years in their lovely Manhattan neighborhood.&nbsp;&nbsp;Along with Dee’s love of artistic crafts and taking care of her yard and flowers, she was a good neighbor. During her career, she worked in public relations and administration for Manhattan area medical clinics, StoneyBrook Retirement Community, and the Manhattan Association of Realtors.

Interment will occur in Troy, MO, Shap's hometown.

She is remembered by her family - Shap Woolfolk, her beloved husband; and their blended family of children and their spouses - Lori Dedic, (John Dedic); Jeff Woolfolk (Carole Woolfolk) and Jerry Woolfolk. Dee was grandmother to Lindsey Packingham (Elliott) and great grandchildren, Bodie and Eva. She was grandmother-by-marriage to Adam Woolfolk and Andy Woolfolk (Erica Woolfolk). She was a great grandmother-by-marriage to Owen Woolfolk and Crosby Woolfolk. Dee is also remembered by her niece, Kristen Olson-Jagt (David).

Sherry P. Sellers, 72, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2023, at Well Springs of Westmoreland.

The staff of Well Springs and St. Croix Hospice helped her make the most of her final months with their friendly and compassionate care.

She was born July 15, 1952, the daughter of Frank and Pauline Zeilinger. They preceded her in death. Sherry resided most of her life in Topeka.

She is survived by her son, Todd (Shannon) Zeilinger and their three children of Silver Lake, KS; and a brother, Frank (Beth) Zeilinger, of Wamego, KS.

Sherry was amazing with stray cats. Each one had a name, and she made sure they were fed and cared for.

She lived her final months to the fullest of her abilities, soaking up as much sun and fresh air as possible. Sherry was a very quiet and reserved person until she felt comfortable. That’s when you would know how kind she was. She will be missed.

Sherry’s wishes were to be cremated.&nbsp; A private celebration of Sherry’s life will be held later.&nbsp; Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home – Wamego, is assisting the family with services.

On May 7th 1978 she was united in marriage to Marvin Hartman. Together they traveled to may areas of the united states Paula had an extensive job history due to her travels. Paula was an accomplished musician and could play the piano by ear.&nbsp; Paula had been confirmed in the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Jacksonville Fl.

Paula was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Irene Jones, and her brother Bill Moser. She is survived by her son Thomas Westbrook wife Lisa of Jacksonville, FL, Step son Chris Hartman of Topeka, KS, Daughter Shelly Morris and husband Jerome of Jacksonville FL and Daughter Angela Perrin Spouse Tammy of St. Augustine, FL. Paula is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Steven J. Jarmer, 63, Manhattan KS, passed away September 19 2023, at St Anthony’s Hospital Westminster CO, while vacationing in Rocky Mountain National Park, which was his favorite place to be.

He was born December 6, 1959 in Abilene KS, to Paul and Donna Jarmer. Steve graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1978. He attended Great Bend Community College after high school. Steve worked for the city of Salina as a water treatment plant operator before taking a job as water treatment plant operator at Fort Riley KS. After many years of service there he retired in 2017.

Steve enjoyed his retirement by traveling to Mexico in the winter and Colorado in the summer. He was a great brother and friend and many times let his sisters join him in his travels.

He spent every Sunday spending time with his Mom in her last years of life. Steve’s family meant everything to him.

He enjoyed going to the gym daily and visiting with his friends there. He loved being outdoors enjoying nature and wildlife and watching football with his family.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Donna Jarmer, his brother Greg Jarmer, and his niece Lindsey Nichols.

He is survived by sisters, Debbie (James) Templeton, Tecumseh MI., and Sandy (Jeri) Hynek, Manhattan KS., as well as 4 nephews and one niece.

His wish was to be cremated and his ashes spread in mountains of Colorado.

Roger Walls with Union Lodge #7 A.F. &amp; A. M. will conduct masonic services.

Marvin was born on March 23, 1932, in Cullowhee, North Carolina, to Roy and Louise (Pruitt) Monteith. He enlisted in the Army in March 1949. His first overseas assignment was in occupied Austria where he met and married his wife Erika. After Austria's occupation ended in 1955, he was stationed in many places both domestic and abroad: Germany from 1955 to 1957, then from 1960 to 1965, and again in 1970 to 1972; Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Red Stone Arsenal, Alabama in 1958; Korea from 1959 to 1960, then again in 1969; Fort Huachuca, Arizona in 1966; Vietnam from 1966 to 1967; Fort Riley, Kansas in 1968, then in 1970, and lastly from 1973 to his retirement in June of 1975.Marvin received vocational training in bricklaying and masonry in 1976. He worked with building contractors all across Kansas. His favorite job was building fireplaces. A few years later in 1980, he accepted a job with civil service in Range Management from which he retired from in 1997.

Marvin enjoyed taking long walks with his German Shepherd, Ranger, and playing pool with his friends. He was a member of many organizations including: The Retired Enlisted Association, The American Legion, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Union Lodge #7 (Past Master), Enterprise Lodge #437 (Past Master), Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, York Rite of Kansas, Shriners International, Served as Junior Steward in the Grand Lodge of Kansas (2011-2012), and was District Deputy Grand Master of District #19.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Monteith, his father, Roy T. Monteith, and his 2 brothers , Jackson Monteith and Roy J. Monteith. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Erika, his Daughter, Louise (John) Gustafson, 2 grandchildren, Amy Gustafson and Jason Gustafson (Cory, Blake and Jake), 3 great-grandchildren, Gage, Avery, and Taylor, his nephew Steve Monteith (Vonne) of Florida, 2 nieces Debbie Harris (John) of Alabama and Mona Sturgis (Ken) of Florida, his cousin Tommy Granert of Tennessee, his step-daughter Elisabeth Ahrer and family of Austria, his special friends Dave and Ann Walser, Bob Leister, and grieving feline companion Josie.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A few years later in 1980, he accepted a job with civil service in Range Management from which he retired from in 1997.Marvin enjoyed taking long walks with his German Shepherd, Ranger, and playing pool with his friends. He was a member of many organizations including: The Retired Enlisted Association, The American Legion, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Union Lodge #7 (Past Master), Enterprise Lodge #437 (Past Master), Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, York Rite of Kansas, Shriners International, Served as Junior Steward in the Grand Lodge of Kansas (2011-2012), and was District Deputy Grand Master of District #19.He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Monteith, his father, Roy T. Monteith, and his 2 brothers , Jackson Monteith and Roy J. Monteith. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Erika, his Daughter, Louise (John) Gustafson, 2 grandchildren, Amy Gustafson and Jason Gustafson (Cory, Blake and Jake), 3 great-grandchildren, Gage, Avery, and Taylor, his nephew Steve Monteith (Vonne) of Florida, 2 nieces Debbie Harris (John) of Alabama and Mona Sturgis (Ken) of Florida, his cousin Tommy Granert of Tennessee, his step-daughter Elisabeth Ahrer and family of Austria, his special friends Dave and Ann Walser, Bob Leister, and grieving feline companion Josie.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Patrick J. Nicholson

Elizabeth Louise Wischer, 28, fell asleep in Christ and went to the heavenly realm on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, from her home near Longford, Kansas, with her animals, friends, and family close by. The sky was blue that afternoon, the sun was shining, and a large Christmas tree that had been decorated by her friends sparkled outside the big picture window next to where she lay. Other Christmas lights and decorations brightened the room inside, and her mom and brothers held her close. Elizabeth loved celebrating the birth of Jesus, and she slipped into sleep to the sound of Christmas carols all around her.

She was born to Jeff and Lori Wischer on October 13, 1994. She grew up caring for her animals, braiding and styling her thick, long, golden-blond hair, creating artwork, teasing her two big brothers, and eagerly helping with the family farm. As an adult she continued all of these passions and also grew to especially love riding horses, driving and working on square-body pickups, creating photography, writing books and devotions, woodworking in her shop, collecting pocket knives, reading her Bible, and, most of all, spending time with her brothers in whatever way possible. There was no end to Elizabeth’s interests and passions, as long as she was doing them with those whom she loved.She worked at the Coachlight Restaurant in Longford for over 10 years, where she loved bantering with all of her farmer and community friends, forming heart ties with her dear coworkers, and enjoying Birthday Pie with her Birthday Twin, Byron. She also worked as a receptionist at Dr. Hogan’s clinic in Salina, where she enjoyed special friendships with her coworkers, and for Curtis McKale as a helper during harvest and calving seasons, where, dressed in thick coveralls in the middle of the night, she saw her first calf be born.

Nothing filled her with more joy, however, than her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was deeply active in her church with a fervent heart, singing in the choir, helping with VBS, serving as the YWR for the LWML Kansas District, volunteering with the church’s fireworks stand, and occasionally driving church friends to run errands. She also went on several church youth trips to help with disaster recovery efforts.

On March 24, 2022, Elizabeth was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia that began an 18-month-long battle with the illness. Her church and community friends stood steadfastly beside her through the whole journey, supporting and encouraging her spiritually, financially, and emotionally, and for that she was filled with the deepest gratitude and love. God also faithfully held onto her through it all, always causing her to believe that a special miracle was coming, and thereby giving her an unfailing joy that shined on all of those around her. In the end she got her miracle—the greatest miracle of all. The Lord gave her the crown of life and brought her home to Himself, out from this veil of tears, to live with Him in Paradise in eternal peace and joy.

She is survived by her parents; her brothers, Max Wischer and Zeke Wischer; her father-in-life, Curtis McKale; her sister-in-life, Amy Wayman; her honorary brother, Seth Stout; her sister-friend from infancy, Bethany Laude; and a multitude of additional dearest friends and family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas, 67410. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2023, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1600 N. Buckeye Ave., Abilene, Kansas, 67410, with graveside committal to follow at the Keystone Cemetery. Afterwards, there will be a luncheon back at the church in Abilene.

Thomas Owen “Tom” Wilson passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Abilene on Saturday, September 23, 2023. He was born June 28, 1928 near Talmage the son of Bert Sr and Catharine (Fawcett) Wilson.He attended Talmage grade school, went to Manhattan, Kansas and then graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1948. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and received an honorable discharge.

Tom worked for Abilene Flour and Midwest Mills as a truck driver for 27 years. He then was the co-owner of Captain Clean in Abilene from 1973 – 1993 before retiring. After retirement he worked for Holm Automotive.Tom was a member of the Jolly Mixers Polka Dancing Club past member of the Benevolent Lodge 98 and a long time member of the First Christian Church. Tom was an avid fisherman, enjoyed woodworking, camping, card games reading, gospel music and polka dancing. 

On April 23, 1955 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Bibb in Abilene. His loving wife of 68 years survives of the home. Other survivors include his daughters Chadra Schmitz and her husband Leonard of Abilene, Denise Friis and her husband Scott of Arvada, Colorado, sister Dorothy Walter of Rogers, Arkansas, brother Mick Wilson of Texas, three grandchildren Jeremiah Schmitz (Monica), Matthew Schmitz (Suzie), Jessica Seaton (Brian), great grandchildren Hannah Schmitz, Madelin Schmitz, Savannah Seaton, Hazel Seaton, Ruth Seaton, Parker Schmitz, and one on the way. Great-Great grandchildren Maeson Schmitz and Oakley Schmitz and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey T. Wilson, brothers Bert Wilson Jr, Frank Wilson, Steve Wilson, and his parents.

Funeral services for Tom will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. His final resting place will be in the Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors provided by the Fr. Riley Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until&nbsp; service time that day.

Rose Mina Simmons, 88, of Manhattan, Kansas, died September 28, 2023 at Wellsprings of Westmoreland, Kansas.

Born in Clay Center, Kansas on February 28, 1935 to Harvey Louis Oetinger and Alice Lennea (Berggren) Oetinger, Rose Mina attended Morganville School and subsequently earned a 2-year teaching degree at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. She taught third grade at WaKeeney for two years before her intended Norman Simmons drew her to finish her Bachelor’s in Education at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas.

Norman &amp; Rosie married in Morganville, Kansas on June 23, 1957. In Texas where Norman was finishing his Masters, she taught school and they welcomed their son Christopher. Jennifer joined the family in Hays, Kansas, while Susan followed in Scranton, Kansas. In addition to being a busy mom, she had many jobs as she followed Norman from church to church. She taught English at K-State in Manhattan and was a school librarian in both Independence, Kansas, and Kansas City, Kansas.

Rosie and Norm retired to Manhattan, Kansas where she enjoyed volunteering for the Flint Hills Breadbasket, Via Christi Hospital, and Friendship Meals.

Rosie was devoted to God and her church communities at White City United Methodist Church and Church of Our Savior United Methodist Church in Junction City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Lennea Nikkel. She is survived by her husband Norm, son Christopher Simmons (Robyn Speidel), daughter Jennifer Wheelock (A. Tobey), and daughter Susan Byrne (Timothy), six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Rosie chose to donate her body to further scientific research at KU Med Center.

The Celebration of Life is 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 6 at Yorgensen Meloan Londeen Funeral Home, Manhattan, with Reverend Dr. Dennis Ackerman officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

Dr. Donald Harris Kropf passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 25, 2023. For the past two and half years, Don lived in Lenexa, Kansas with his son, Bradley and Bradley’s wife, Jenny, where they cared for him faithfully.

Don was born on March 8, 1931 and grew up on a small dairy farm in Wisconsin. He participated in 4-H and Future Farmers of America. As an adult, he loved the pasture tending cattle, splitting wood, and for a while, he was quite the Atari Pacman expert. His children woke up many a Saturday morning to ba-ba-ba-ba of Pacman. Don taught his kids to do math in their heads (because one needs it for playing Skunk, dominoes or counting points in Bridge). Don read The Manhattan Mercury every day and watched the evening news. He subscribed to National Geographic, Readers’ Digest (it pays to improve your word power, after all…), and Guideposts. Don was also known for long, newsy letters.

Don was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, Kansas. He served as the 5th grade Sunday School teacher for many years, and stumped many 5th graders with his legendary crossword puzzles. During his later years, he was a part of the Saints and Sinners Sunday School class. Don also served the Stephens Ministry Program. He visited numerous people at Meadowlark, the hospital, and did emergency calls at the hospital. He also participated in one-on-one ministry through the program.

Later, he rode the church bus and waited steadfastly at the end of his street so the bus would not have to come down the one-lane road to get him.Don served in the United States Army from September 17, 1956 to July 18, 1958. Don used to say that his unit (the unit was full of those with Ph.D.s and Master’s degrees) excelled on the tests of intellect, but did not do so well on the tests of fitness! He served at Fort Sheridan, Illinois—just north of Chicago where he met Gwendolyn Ann Slover Kropf. They married on June 23, 1962 and were married 57 years. Gwen preceded him in death on December 5, 2019.Don leaves behind three children: Gregory (Mary) Westphalia, Kansas, Bradley (Jenny), Lenexa, Kansas, and Martha (John), Charlotte, North Carolina. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Heather, Anna, Melissa, Adam, Thomas, Lauren, Becky, Gwendolyn, Julia, Zachary, Morgan, and John. He also leaves one great grandchild, Jason Hall-Kropf. Don also leaves a sister, Arlene (Watertown, Wisconsin) and a sister-in-law Frances Slover Schiff (Plattsburg, NY). We all have happy memories of big family get-togethers.Don was a Professor of Meat Science at Kansas State University from 1962-2006. Before that, he was briefly at Clemson University (1958-1962). He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1956 in Biochemistry and Animal Husbandry. Don had a prestigious career as a professor of Meat Science at Kansas State University. He traveled all over the world including Iran in 1972 and the Soviet Union in 1991. He was president of the American Meat Science Association in 1986. He won the “Distinguished Service Award” from the Kansas Meat Processors Association in 2000. He was also the recipient of the R.C. Pollack Award from the American Meat Science Association for “Extraordinary and Lasting Contributions to the Livestock and Meat Industry.” Don also won the Intercollegiate Meat Judging 1995 “Meritorious Service Award” from the American Meat Science Association.Don was also well-known for his messy office. Noted one K-Stater: “Dr. Kropf was always the greatest advocate for the students. A favorite memory of him is asking him for information/an article in his office. He would say ‘if it is not in this pile, it is in this pile. I will get it to you sometime today.’ I think he always had it to me within a half hour.”The family will greet friends during a visitation from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday October 22, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz in Manhattan.Funeral services will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. at the church on Sunday October 22, 2023.
