&nbsp;William Lewis Tate, 68, of Junction City, passed away on August 29, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and friends. 

A visitation will take place Friday, September 8, 2023, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Johnson Funeral Home. Cremation will take place per family's request. The memorial service will take place on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church, 1010 Burke Dr, Junction City, KS 66441, at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd, Manhattan, KS 66503.

William Lewis Tate was born on January 6, 1955, in Gary, Indiana, to Nathaniel Winston and Yvonne Long. William, who family and friends often called “Tate," graduated in 1974 from Roosevelt High to pursue a career as a budget analyst for the City of Gary. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1982, where he served his country for ten years.Tate was an avid learner and a keen entrepreneur. At the end of his military career, he moved to Junction City, KS and attended Kansas State University, where he earned multiple degrees, in each of the following: Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Management and Theology. In 1996, he opened his first business, “Laugh on Line," a computer service store. He eventually transitioned the business into Tate’s Enterprises, a tax and accounting business, which he maintained until his health declined. Tate was very social and a great storyteller. He never met a stranger. Tate enjoyed cooking, spending time with family, talking business, and traveling. He loved audiobooks and jazz music, especially Kenny G. If you asked him, he would declare himself as the champion of chess and the dominator in dominoes.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mollie Tate; siblings: Robert Long, Miranda Long, Orlanda Martin (Clotill), Austin Webster, Annette Winston, Joyce Winston, LaJuana Bryant (Wallace), Cheryl Harris, Valerie Tate, Jowanna Winston, and Pam Winston; children: Ametria Tate, William Tate Jr. (Patrice), Jenae Reid (Brandon), Alex Welch, Brantley Welch, Jessica Welch, and Jasmine Bichara (Hector); grandchildren: Jayden, Destiny, Jordan, Aeryanna, Jasianna, Joanna, Judah, Lyric, Kailyn, Karter, Joshua, and Baby Reid; great-grandson, Zayden Tate; and a vast host of loving family and friends. He will be greatly missed.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Philip was born April 6, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa the son of C. N. and Ruth E. (Hoffman) Pauly.Philip served in the United States Army until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked as an umpire and coached little league baseball, played fantasy baseball, football and supported the Junction City Pacesetters. He also worked for Mick's Appliances and U.S.D. #475. He enjoyed fishing, all sports and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #45 in Junction City. He married Jean Marie Kaufmann on December 28, 1968 in Dubuque, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife Jean of the home in Junction City, Kansas; three daughters, Glenice Pauly, Katrina Sandeen and Stephanie Pauly all of Junction City, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Jason Pauly and his wife Samantha, Philip Neu, Jeffrey Neu, Christina Neu, Kimberly Johnson, Ashley Johnson, William Johnson, Cory Allen and Cody Allen; great-grandchildren, Wyatte Hogue, Maddylina Neu, Neiyana Neu, Luella Neu, Julius Neu and David Luke; one brother, Mike Pauly and one sister-in-law Deborah Pauly.He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Kelly Allen and two brothers, William and Lawrence Pauly and one sister-in-law Karen Pauly.&nbsp;&nbsp;

James “Jim” Kenneth Olson, age 74 of Leonardville, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023 at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

He was born on July 23, 1949 in Clay Center, the son of Kenneth Hayden and Elda Jean (Malmstrom) Olson.

On August 12, 1978, he married Evadne Chalmers Hilliard at the Leonardville United Methodist Church.

Jim was a computer programmer at Kansas State University.&nbsp; Earlier in his working years he owned and operated the Riley Countian newspaper.&nbsp; He then worked overnight at the K-State Collegian before working in computer programming.&nbsp; He was a member of the Leonardville United Methodist Church, Leonardville Lions Club, Leonardville Pride and Leonardville Senior Citizens, where he cooked and was treasurer for several years.&nbsp; He served his community being on Leonardville City Council (Treasurer), Leonardville Library Board (President), and U.S.D. 378 Riley County School Board.

He is survived by his wife, Evadne Olson of Leonardville; five children, Raylyn Ramsgard of Omaha, Nebraska, Mike Hilliard and wife Michelle of Sedgwick, Donna Bever and husband Jeff of Colwich, Don Hilliard and wife Kathi of Garnett and Robert Hilliard and wife Jamie of Rose Hill; one brother, John Olson and wife Judy of Parsons; one sister, Judy Foster of Sedan; sixteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 16, 2023 at the Leonardville Community Church.

Lucinia L. “Lucy” Krieger, 79, died August 31, 2023, at Bramlage House, Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan, Kansas. She was born January 24, 1944, in Vancouver, Washington, the daughter of Howard and Ruth (Brady) Burtnett. She attended elementary school in Chase, Kansas, and then the family moved to Hays. She attended junior high and high school in Hays where she was active in marching band, orchestra, and jazz band. It was also in high school where she started sewing and continued through adulthood enjoying quilting, sewing, and crafts.

On September 2, 1961, she married Deryl Marsell, in Hays, Kansas, to this marriage three children were born Rhonda, Darren, and Douglas. They later divorced. She then married Carl W. Krieger on November 9, 1970, in Hoisington, Kansas and they were blessed with a son, Daniel. Carl preceded her in death on June 25, 2006.

Lucy worked as a CNA in two different nursing homes in Hoisington and eventually transferred into housekeeping at the Great Bend Manor. She also worked at Wendy’s in Great Bend and later worked for a short time at Walmart in Manhattan.

Survivors include: four children, Rhonda Carryer and husband Robert of Ogden, Darren Marsell and wife Kris of Lorraine, Douglas Marsell and wife Karen of Russell, and Daniel Krieger of Ottumwa, Iowa; sister Judy Kile and husband Don of Morris, Illinois; 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Burtnett, mother, Ruth Mason, and stepfather, Shorty Mason, stepfather, Willard Yarger and stepmother, Clara Yarger, and husband Carl Krieger.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday with family to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 8th, 2023, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Warren Stecklein. Inurnment will be in Hoisington Cemetery at a later date.

Gail A. Roepke, age 90, of Waterville, passed away at Country Living in Marysville, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

Gail was born on January 4, 1933, in his parents’ living room on the family farm south of Cottage Hill.&nbsp; He attended Cottage Hill Country School and graduated from Waterville High School with the class of 1950.&nbsp; He married his childhood sweetheart Beverly “Bevy” Roeth on August 22, 1954.

Gail worked as a farmer and stockman on their farm south of Cottage Hill.&nbsp; When he and Bevy were first married, he joined the US Army serving at Fort Riley.&nbsp; For two years he would leave early in the morning for duty at Fort Riley, then come home to farm in the evenings and weekends.&nbsp; Gail and his father owned Roepke Hog Farms, selling breeding stock to other farmers throughout the Midwest, and managing the oldest continuously registered Duroc herd in Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp; In addition to farming, Gail served on various Boards of Directors over the years for organizations including the Citizen’s State Bank, the Marysville Country Club, the Kansas Pork Producers, and the Kansas Soil Conservation District. He also volunteered to help Bevy with her work with the Girl Scouts and Summer Theater and the Waterville Preservation Society.

Gail was a member of the Waterville United Methodist Church, Springer Post 332 of the American Legion, the Lions Club, and Sutton Lodge #85 of the AF&amp;AM also in Waterville.&nbsp; He was a member of the Arab Shrine unit based in Topeka.&nbsp;

Over the years Gail and Bevy enjoyed many trips and fun times.&nbsp; He once drove a bus full of Girl Scouts to a camping trip in Estes Park.&nbsp; He and Bevy went on rafting trips to the Grand Canyon and the Green River and went skiing in Colorado every Winter.&nbsp; Gail also loved to golf, and to go water skiing at Tuttle Creek.&nbsp; In their later years Gail and Bevy enjoyed trips to England, Italy, and cruises in Europe and the Caribbean.

Gail was the host of many parties and celebrations over the years. For over 50 years running, he met with friends to celebrate Labor Day with a Champagne Breakfast, which some years would run into a full day event featuring a whole-hog barbeque.&nbsp; Some people said he would use any excuse to throw a party, and he solidified that reputation by once throwing a surprise party for Bevy when she earned her pin for donating 10 gallons of blood to the Bloodmobile. Most recently, in May of this year Gail and Bevy shared their joint ‘180th&nbsp;Birthday’ party in Waterville, surrounded by family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Bevy, his daughter Kim Roepke of Colorado Springs, Colorado, four grandchildren: Arthur (Heather Dougherty) Donovan, Philip (Jenna) Donovan, Clare (Brian) Donovan-Scane and Emmett (Jaime) Donovan, all of Chicago, Illinois.&nbsp;

Preceding Gail in death were his parents, a brother Melvin Roepke and a sister Margaret Siebert.

Viewing is from noon to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 5, 2023 with visitation 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

Linda L. Jones passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in rural Abilene on August 31, 2023. Linda was the daughter of Maurice and Kathleen McCurdy, born in Gardiner, Maine November 23, 1943.After high school Linda married Jack Lee Jones in San Diego, California. The couple would soon settle in rural Abilene and establish Jones Greyhound farm where they bred and raised champion racing greyhounds for decades. Linda was a kind and loving soul who loved the beauty of nature and enjoyed traveling. The greyhound industry took her across the entire United States where she made many lifelong friends both human and canine. Linda’s success in the industry landed her in the Greyhound Hall of Fame.

Linda is survived by her children; daughter Catherine Yockers of Solomon, KS, sons David Jones of Rural Abilene, and Jack Jones of Chicago, and her sister Andrea Collette of Topeka, KS. Linda was a kind and loving soul who loved the beauty of nature and enjoyed traveling. The greyhound industry took her across the entire United States where she made many lifelong friends both human and canine. Linda’s success in the industry landed her in the Greyhound Hall of Fame.Linda is survived by her children; daughter Catherine Yockers of Solomon, KS, sons David Jones of Rural Abilene, and Jack Jones of Chicago, and her sister Andrea Collette of Topeka, KS. Linda L Jones - November 23rd, 1943 - August 31st, 2023

Paul J. Martin, born June 30, 1925, in Galena, Kansas, the son of Walter Jack and Josephine Shryock Martin died on August 30, 2023. Paul attended the Galena schools, graduating from Galena High School with the class of 1943. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Naval Corpsman in the South Pacific Theater of Operations. There he was engaged in five combats, including one ship, the USS Cavelier, torpedoed off the island Luzon. Following his discharge from the Navy in 1946, he entered the University of Mortuary Science in Kansas City, Kansas.He was united in marriage with Lily M. Armstrong on November 23, 1947, in Galena, Kansas, and to this union a son, Stan, and a daughter, Paula, were born. Paul and Lil moved to Abilene in 1948 where he became associated with the Rasher Funeral Home as an embalmer. Following the death of Mr. Rasher in 1958, Paul and his wife purchased the funeral home, renaming it the Martin Funeral Home and together they operated it until their retirement on March 1, 1988. It was their great honor to conduct the local services and burial of President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1969

.Paul was a member of the First Baptist Church in Abilene serving in various church officers and taught the Adult Sunday School Class for over 15 years. Active in community affairs, he was Past President of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, Past President of Abilene Public Library, Past President of Abilene Country Club, a member and Past Master of the Beneficial Lodge #98, AF&amp;AM, Past President of Central Kansas Free Fair, Board Member of the Scottish Rite and Isis Shrine, Board Member of the Brown Memorial Foundation, and Member and Past President of the Abilene Noon Lions Club, of which he was a member for over 65 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Paula Martin, and her husband, Kurt Falkenstien, of Lawrence, Kansas; daughter-in-law Victoria Martin of Lawrence, Kansas; grandsons, Jackson Martin (Sarah) of Seattle, Washington, and Tyler Martin (Jill) of Longmont Colorado; granddaughters, Jessica Lindfors (Jordan) of Tallmadge, Ohio and Kate Martin Falkenstien (Rich Boltizar) of Boise Idaho; as well as seven great grandchildren, Colton and Katie Lindfors, Scott, Ronan and Imogen Martin and Theo and Maeve Boltizar; nieces, nephews and other relatives.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, brothers Maurice and Gerald and sisters Nancy and Joan.

Paul J. Martin

Bill R. Fuller passed away peacefully after a short illness on September 2, 2023, at the Good Shepard Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born on the family farm in rural Ottawa Co. on April 9, 1938, during a late spring blizzard to William Vincent Fuller and Winifred Aileen (Adee) Fuller.

He attended grade schools at Sunnyside School, District 45 and Storm Center, District 40 in rural Ottawa County. Bill attended Miltonvale Rural High School and graduated in 1956. He was the Chapter President of FFA, participated in band and choir, a member of the National Honor Society, and a member of the mile relay team that set a new record at the K-State Indoor meet. He also was a football letter winner, in the times of wearing an old leather helmet.

Bill and brother Max had many adventures with jumping their bikes over ramps and experimenting with modifications to add pontoons for water and sails for the wind. After a few successes and a few shipwrecks, many of their inventions ended up in the scrap iron pile where they started. The brothers were also active Rockhill 4-H Club members raising Duroc breeding gilts, Angus heifers, Hampshire market lambs and completing Home Beautification and Room Improvement projects.

Wheat harvest was an important part of Bill’s early family life. During his childhood years, his family was selected to be part of the harvest Brigade during WW II, agreeing to follow harvest across the country with Massey-Harris Model 21 new-technology harvesting machines – the combine. Later, on a custom cutting trip across the Midwest, Bill and Max were young teens as they headed back to Kansas for school with their mother. Max (13) was pulled over by a trooper driving the truck as Bill (15) relieved his mother in the car. Max got stopped, Bill got the ticket, and Mom paid the fine.

Bill attended and graduated from Kansas State University. He approached college as an 8 to 5 job and worked hard and excelled. He received awards and was recognized in an economics contest, and the K-State Crops Judging Team, placing at the national level. Bill also worked in the horticultural greenhouse and at the research farm. His big project involved using 100 different watermelon varieties to create the Crimson Sweet variety. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He graduated in June of 1960 with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Cum Laude.

He moved with his young family to Miltonvale where he was involved with the family farm. He was also instrumental in building award winning Vocational Agriculture and FFA programs as a teacher at his alma mater from 1960-68. He and his students were recognized many times for their judging skills and building various farm equipment pieces from scratch at the state and national level. He believed in teaching his students to complete their projects with pride and learning to do high-quality work. Bill was awarded the Honorary State Farmer Degree after retiring from his teaching career.

Bill was an active member of the Miltonvale Lions Club for 21 years. One project that he volunteered to chair a committee to organize and operate a rural fire department. In June of 1965 the Cloud County Commission voted to establish Rural Fire District No. 7. Bill’s Vo-Ag department at MRHS did much of the repair, design, and construction of firefighting equipment. He was also involved in the Farmers Union Cooperative, Miltonvale Young Farmers, Cloud Co. Extension Council, Cloud Co. Fair Assn.

Bill was elected in 1979 to serve in the House of Representatives of the Kansas Legislature. He enjoyed working with his mentor Senator Ross Doyen and serving on committees including Agriculture &amp; Livestock, Assessment &amp; Taxation, Transportation, Insurance, and Rules &amp; Regulations. He also selected as the Chairman Agriculture &amp; Livestock committee in his last term. He served the constituents of District 108 for three 2-year terms.

After leaving the Legislature he took a position as Asst. Director of the Public Affairs Division of Kansas Farm Bureau. Serving from 1984 to 2001, his responsibilities included researching issues important to farmers and ranchers. He would also lobby Legislators to support bills that would implement the policies and programs.

He resigned his position at Farm Bureau to accept an appointment by President George W. Bush as Executive Director of the USDA Kansas Farm Service Agency. He supervised more than 500 employees, managed a $41 million budget, administered 30 programs for conservation, farm loans, disaster relief, and benefits to Kansas farmers and ranchers. In 2007 he was selected to receive the Administrator’s Honor Award. He served from March 12, 2001, and retired on January 29, 2009, in this position.

Prior to and during his retirement years he had many hobbies which he approached with great passion. He spent many hours driving to and attending dance recitals, graduations, sporting, medical school pinning ceremonies, KSU football games and many other events of his nine grandkids and seventeen great-grandchildren.

His keen interest in old vehicles increased when he became the second owner of a 1920 Ford Model T 1-ton truck in high school. He restored that truck and drove it in many parades as he campaigned for the Legislature. He was an avid collector of tractors and farm equipment, diecast race cars, oil company banks and Miltonvale Pottery. He enjoyed attending the Belleville High Banks and NASCAR races across the country.

Bill and Janice married November 10, 1987, and enjoyed camping, cruising, and traveling across the country. They spent the winters in Sun City, AZ for five years, where Bill became a master at painting ceramics.

He spent several years writing a book containing 22 stories of his favorite adventures of his life, with tremendous help from Janice. He loved researching his family history and putting these memories in his book, “Short Stories….adventures of a boy growing up on a KANSAS farm!”

His surviving family members include his wife Janice and best dog friend Charlie of the home in Manhattan; brother Max and wife Nancy of Maple Hill; brother-in-law Richard Wilkey; three children: Bradley Fuller and wife Pam of Barnsdall, OK, Beverly Mortimer and husband Scott of Delphos, KS, and Betty Bachamp and husband Mark of Manhattan, KS; nine grandchildren: Toby Lohman-Fuller (Jessica), Brady Fuller (Courtney), Montana Fuller, Jeff Mortimer (Elizabeth), Ryan Mortimer (Paige), David Mortimer (Megan), Krista DeWitt (Tyler), Cole Bachamp (Bailey), and Kyle Bachamp; and 17 great grandchildren: Kinzie, Taybree &amp; Joliegh Lohman-Fuller; Dekker, Bekket &amp; Evvi Fuller; Drew, Tyler, Sophia &amp; Beau Mortimer; Karsyn &amp; Blake Mortimer; Lainey Mortimer; Paxton &amp; Reagan DeWitt; Dylan &amp; Brooks Bachamp

B. Duane Nordgren, age 90, of Manhattan, died August 31, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan.

He was born May 6, 1933, in Olsburg, Kansas, the son of Axel B. and Florence H. (Sundstrom) Nordgren. The family lived in Manhattan, South Dakota, and then back to Manhattan where Duane graduated from Manhattan High School in 1951.

Duane served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Duane worked as a field engineer for NCR. Following his retirement, he worked for 10 years as the Director of Transportation for Pawnee Mental Health.

He was a member of the American Legion Post # 17. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, collecting coins, puzzling and watching the birds.

On December 23, 1959, at the Olsburg Lutheran Church, he was married to the former Norma W. Webster. Norma preceded him in death on January 29, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his sister Lorraine Hirsch.

Survivors include his two children: Brent Duane Nordgren and his wife Linda of Danville, CA, and Sherri Nordgren of Leawood, KS; and two grandsons: Bryce and Björn Nordgren.

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, September 7th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Stephen Haverlah officiating.&nbsp; Interment with military honors will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

Delores E. (Harris) Hunter peacefully passed away August 30, 2023 at Good Shepherd Hospice House at the age of 90 years old.

Delores was born to Clifford and Ruth (Hobson) Harris on December 15, 1932 in Junction City, KS. As a senior in high school, she met her husband-to-be and soulmate, William (Billy Bob) Hunter, while working at the lunch counter at Duckwalls in Junction City. They married in 1951 and to that loving union brought 2 sons and 3 daughters. Delores’ life revolved around caring for her loving husband, children and doting over their grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a dog lover, she always enjoyed having a family companion in the home. Delores enjoyed many activities with her family, but was especially fond of memories when the family regularly worked together at Woods’ Manhattan Raceway Park. Delores and Billy Bob enjoyed entertaining friends and family in their beautiful backyard, playing cards, going to local dances, collecting antiques, garage sales, and routinely traveling to Tucson, AZ and other parts of the country to visit relatives. They thoroughly enjoyed leisure time together.

Delores is survived by her daughter, Jill Hunter Day, and four grandchildren: Ryan Day, Lauren (Zack) Rust, Rick (Andrea) Stephens and Tim Stephens. She also had seven great-grandchildren: Finley and Clay Rust, Ellie and Mya Stephens, Hunter Robinson, Colby and Jacob Stephens; and two step-brothers Bob (Rosie) Klotz and Dennis (Brenda) Klotz.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; step mother Rose Oberg; her loving husband of 58 years; four children: Nancy Stephens-Ramsey, Ricky, Steve and Jennifer Hunter; grandson Jeremy Ribeau; one sister Roberta Dinsmore; two half-sister’s Marguerite Ingle and Betty Lou Farrell; and a half-brother Clifford Harris Jr.

Family and friends are invited to Pray the Rosary at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 8th, at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, 303 16th St., Ogden, KS. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m.,&nbsp; Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Don Zimmerman as Celebrant. Delores E. (Harris) Hunter 

Janice Jean Olson McIntosh arrived in the world on December 16, 1933 in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Her proud parents were George A. Olson and Helene (Betty) Dean Olson.

In 1949 the family moved from Waukesha to Manhattan, Kansas. Janice was an active member of the Manhattan High School Class of 1951. She continued her love of learning as a Kansas State Wildcat where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. While at K-State and through her life she enjoyed being a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Her wedding to Merlyn Roy McIntosh was the first wedding to be held in the brand-new chapel on the K-State campus, June 27, 1955.

An enthusiastic teacher she taught first grade at Stout School in Topeka, KS. Later she became the teacher/director of Raggedy Anne and Andy Nursery School in Columbia, Missouri. Through the years she substituted in both the Columbia and Manhattan schools.

Her most rewarding teaching was with her own children Craig George (1959), Julie Ann (1960), Andrew Edwin (1964) and Jean Elizabeth (1968), and granddaughter Kelsey Colleen (1995). She encouraged and supported each to follow their own individual interests.

Janice was the published author of the book Issac’s Runaway Cow. This book inspired children to see Kansas history in such a different way that it sold 750 copies through the Kansas Historical Society where she was an active member. Her writing talents were also recognized through Kansas writing contests where she won several awards.

Throughout her life Janice was involved in organizations that built a strong community. She was a member of Domestic Science, Sertoma Club, Stephen’s Ministries and an active member of the churches she attended.

Being half Norwegian and having an interest in genealogy she traveled to Norway five times where she found a deep love for the country as well as many cousins and lifelong friends.

Her joys also came in the form of antique collecting, playing bridge, reading and spending as much time as possible with her family and friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents George and Betty Olson, sons Craig and Andrew McIntosh.

She is survived by daughters Julie (McIntosh) Leach (Roseville, CA) Jean McIntosh (Lawrence, KS) and granddaughter Kelsey Leach (Orange, CA)

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday September 8, 2023 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan, Kansas. Interment will follow at the Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan.

Nicholas Adams (Nic) Bennett, 39, of Manhattan, passed away on Friday, August 25th, in Washington County, KS, due to a pickup accident. He worked for Nelson's Poultry Farm in their maintenance department.

Nick was born in Globe, Arizona, on April 8, 1984, the son of Earl Leslie Bennett of Duncan, OK, and Catherine Ann (Bradford) Bennett of Manhattan. Nick was a graduate of Herington High School in Herington, KS. He had obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science and was in the process of pursuing his Masters at the University of Phoenix.

Nick is survived by a daughter, Isabella Adams-Bennett, of Manhattan, and a son, Kai Bennett, of Herington. He is also survived by four sisters: Lacey Bennett of Duncan, OK; Presley Bennett of Duncan, OK; Brianna Swindler of AZ; and Krystal Montano of AZ. Furthermore, he leaves behind a brother, Anthony (Josephine) Bennett of Plano, TX, as well as his step-mother, Carrie Bennett of Duncan, OK, along with her children—two step-sisters and one step-brother.

A "Service of Remembrance" will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 1st, at Carlson's Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home &amp; Cremation in Manhattan, with Pastor Lewis O. Smith, Sr. officiating.

Nancy J. Hunt of Detroit, KS, passed away on August 25, 2023, at her home. Nancy was born on August 8, 1963, in Carroll, Iowa, daughter of Doyle Hunt and Wanda Constable Hunt. Nancy graduated from Glidden-Ralston High School, Glidden, Iowa, in 1981. She attended Cloud County Community College to further her education.

 Nancy was a strong lover of quilting and sewing, gardening, raising chickens and gathering eggs, and loving cats. She loved her family very much, showing her love in many different ways that were unique to each of them. Nancy spent a major portion of her working career in school food service in the area.

Nancy is survived by her father Doyle Hunt (Mary Fairchild) of Glidden, Iowa, and mother Wanda Soutter of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Her family includes partner Ray Heideman of the home, her daughters Bridgette Warnke of Gardner, KS, and Savana Ebel (Daniel) of Junction City, KS, and sons Aaron Warnke (Christine) of Salina, KS and Nicholas Warnke of Scranton, IA, and 5 bonus children. Siblings Mark Hunt of Mountain Home, AR, Peggy (Terry) Heldstab of Junction City, KS and Cynthia (Mark) Pickett of Topeka, KS, and sister-in-law Sheryl (Tom) Lynch of Carroll, IA, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Nancy was preceded in death by a brother Murray Jon (Mike) Hunt and stepfather Richard Soutter. Nancy was a proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren (Tyler, Tristan, Saleen, Lainey, Joseph, Ryan, Aurora, Lucas, Carson, and Emaley) and 12 bonus grandchildren.

Nancy J. Hunt - August 8th, 1963 - August 25th, 2023

Anita Nangene (Doran/Flowers) Allen, age 90, of Ogden, Kansas, passed away Saturday August 26, 2023 at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City, Kansas.

She was born on January 16, 1933 in St. Joseph, Missouri. The daughter of Thelma and John Doran, and Darlo (Della)Flowers. She lived in Tama, Iowa where she graduated high school.

After high school, Anita was one of the first women to be accepted into the United States Air Force. She was proud of her service to her country. She was a very patriotic person throughout her life. In addition to her service, she was a member of the Legion for 54 years. Also, she was on The Selective Service Board for 20 years.

She retired from The Iowa State Juvenile Home in 1995. After retirement, she moved to Garwin, Iowa. She lived in Garwin for 23 years. She eventually made her home in Ogden, Kansas.

She enjoyed being a Patriot, traveling, seeing her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Patrick John Anderson, and her sister Barbara.

Anita is survived by her three children: Douglas Anderson and his wife Melinda of Maitland, Florida, Mona Bass and husband (Toot)William Bass of Ogden, Kansas, and Lisa Smith of Gillette, Wyoming; her eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren (and one on the way); and her sister Michele Tiemens of Manchester, Iowa, and brother John Doran and his wife (Susan) of Boone, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday September 6, 2023 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ogden, with Father Kerry Ninemire as Celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley in Manhattan.

Anita Nangene (Doran/Flowers) Allen

Donna June (Jones) Smith passed away at the Good Shepherd Hospice House on August 25, 2023.

Donna was born on March 19, 1936 in Herrin, Illinois, the daughter of Earl and Pansy Jones. Her dad was a coal miner and they moved to Harco, Illinois, during her grade school years and then back to Herrin for her secondary schooling. At the age of 12 her parents divorced. She and her four sisters lived in the Heights (Govt. Housing). Her mom later married Raymond Serena. While in high school she met the love of her life, Carl Smith. A love that was meant to be since she and Carl were born 3 blocks and 3 weeks apart in Herrin. She was Homecoming Queen and Carl was a captain of the football team. Carl had the honor of crowning her queen. After graduating from Herrin High School, she worked as an office manager at the Norge Factory in Herrin. On March 16, 1957, she and Carl married. Carl entered the Air Force December 1958 as a 2nd Lieutenant. Thus began her twenty-two-year career as a military wife, which included residences primarily in the South East and accompanied tours in Turkey and Okinawa. When Carl retired from the military, he and Donna settled in Manhattan, Kansas. Donna was hired as a teller at 1st National Bank, and later became a branch manager at Landmark National Bank. She retired from the bank after 19 years.

During her lifetime, Donna loved raising her children, doting on members of her family, and giving her time and attention to others. She loved to travel, which included regular vacations to Las Vegas and Branson, where she regularly left the casino with more money than she brought. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to everyone she met.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Smith of Manhattan, KS and daughter Shelley (Smith) Buchanan (husband Mike) of Manhattan, KS. Three grand children: Bryan Carl Smith of Herrin, Illinois, Molly Buchanan (partner Jeremy Kellogg) of Randolph, KS, and Reid Buchanan (wife Sarah) of San Diego, CA. One great-grandson: Gunner Kellogg of Randolph, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 </figure>Donna June (Jones) Smith passed away at the Good Shepherd Hospice House on August 25, 2023.Donna was born on March 19, 1936 in Herrin, Illinois, the daughter of Earl and Pansy Jones. Her dad was a coal miner and they moved to Harco, Illinois, during her grade school years and then back to Herrin for her secondary schooling. At the age of 12 her parents divorced. She and her four sisters lived in the Heights (Govt. Housing). Her mom later married Raymond Serena. While in high school she met the love of her life, Carl Smith. A love that was meant to be since she and Carl were born 3 blocks and 3 weeks apart in Herrin. She was Homecoming Queen and Carl was a captain of the football team. Carl had the honor of crowning her queen. After graduating from Herrin High School, she worked as an office manager at the Norge Factory in Herrin. On March 16, 1957, she and Carl married. Carl entered the Air Force December 1958 as a 2nd Lieutenant. Thus began her twenty-two-year career as a military wife, which included residences primarily in the South East and accompanied tours in Turkey and Okinawa. When Carl retired from the military, he and Donna settled in Manhattan, Kansas. Donna was hired as a teller at 1st National Bank, and later became a branch manager at Landmark National Bank. She retired from the bank after 19 years.During her lifetime, Donna loved raising her children, doting on members of her family, and giving her time and attention to others. She loved to travel, which included regular vacations to Las Vegas and Branson, where she regularly left the casino with more money than she brought. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to everyone she met.She is survived by her husband, Carl Smith of Manhattan, KS and daughter Shelley (Smith) Buchanan (husband Mike) of Manhattan, KS. Three grand children: Bryan Carl Smith of Herrin, Illinois, Molly Buchanan (partner Jeremy Kellogg) of Randolph, KS, and Reid Buchanan (wife Sarah) of San Diego, CA. Steven Clayton Hagenmaier, age 71, of Manhattan, passed away on August 25, 2023 at his home in Manhattan.

He was born January 14, 1952 to his parents Melvin C. and Gladys C. (Bergstrom) Hagenmaier.

Steve grew up on a farm north of Randolph. He attended Randolph schools and graduated from Blue Valley High School In 1970. For many years he worked for a local moving company. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with family, BBQing, bird watching, watching the KC Chiefs and KSU sports, and hanging out with his dog Peppy Jo.

On November 10, 1978 he was married to Mary Ellen Zarger. Mary preceded him in death on December 21, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his Mother-In-Law Loretta Zarger, a Sister-In-Law Luetta Lake, and a Brother-In-Law Junior Zarger.

Survivors include step sons, Anthony Moss and Scott Moss (Kate) both of Manhattan; children Amy, Shanda and Jason, and seven grandchildren: Melanie, Hannah, Cooper, Angelicia, Dennis, Quiten, and Kyra.

Also surviving are his sibling Ruth Lowe of Shoreline, WA, Joann Zarger of Manhattan, Neil Hagenmaier of Kansas City, KS, Donna Nelson (Dean) of Leonardville, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nick was born in Globe, Arizona on April 8, 1984, the son of Earl Leslie Bennett, of Duncan, OK. and Catherine Ann (Bradford) Bennett, of Manhattan. &nbsp;Nick was a graduate of Herington High School, Herington, KS. &nbsp;He received a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science and was starting his Masters from the University of Phoenix

Christena Ann Stevenson, 100, of Wamego, Kansas, formerly of St. George, died Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Via Christi Village in Manhattan. &nbsp;She was a long-time resident of the area.

Christena was born on September 14, 1922, in Atchison County, Missouri, the daughter of Clyde and Martha (Johnson) Miller. &nbsp;She attended local grade school and graduated in 1940 from High School in Tarkio, Missouri.

She married Paul Stevenson on August 17, 1941. &nbsp;After 68 years of marriage, Paul preceded her in death on December 4, 2009.

Christena was a homemaker who enjoyed raising her family.&nbsp;

Christena loved to square dance with Paul. &nbsp;They owned a farm in St. George. She was a great cook and was known for her delicious meals and desserts and had the ability to prepare a meal for a large group at a moment’s notice. &nbsp;She was a seamstress and enjoyed all sewing crafts as well as working as a 4-H leader. &nbsp;Christena loved K-State sports, especially basketball. &nbsp; She also enjoyed traveling to see family. &nbsp;One of her favorite pastimes was spending time with friends at the Friendly Cooker. &nbsp;Christena loved to write letters and was the family’s kin keeper. She was a member of the St. George United Methodist Church.

Christena is survived by her children; Larry Stevenson, Topeka, Martha Williams, Clay Center, and Debra Ledet (Mark Mobley), Grapevine, Texas; her grandchildren, Todd Collins (Trish), Clay Center, Chris Collins (Mary), Kansas City, Marnie Clayton (Gene), Manhattan, Lauren Witte (Jantzen) Fort Worth, Texas, and Alyson McDaniel (James), Austin, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Brennan Clayton, Bryan Clayton, and Lucca Witte. &nbsp;In addition to her husband, Paul, Christena was preceded in death by a son, Ron Stevenson, grandsons, Paul Ledet and Mason Ledet and siblings, Alfred Miller, Harold Miller, and Wallace Miller.

A Celebration of Christena’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at St. George United Methodist Church. Malissa Mae Hunt, 68, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Thursday (August 24, 2023) in Wamego, Kansas.

Born June 26, 1955 in Manhattan, Kansas, Malissa was the daughter of Hal S. and Leona Mae (Hause) Hunt.

Malissa was a 1973 graduate of St. George High School and attended Manhattan Technical College. In 1979, she began her career at McCall Pattern Company where she worked for 39 years until her retirement in 2018. &nbsp;Malissa then became a para educator for the Wamego School District No. 320 at Central Elementary School until 2021.

Malissa was a member of the Wamego United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) and the GEMS Genealogy group. Her great joys in life were bowling and camping. &nbsp;Malissa was an avid bowler and was currently serving as an officer for the Kansas Bowling Association. &nbsp;She loved camping, traveling across the country as a member of the Coachman Camping Club and her more recent trips to Branson. &nbsp;Malissa had a special place in her heart for her pets, especially her Siamese cats.

Survivors include three aunts, Lila Flinn of Wamego, KS, Florence Flinn of Manhattan, KS and Marlene Flinn of St. George, KS; many cousins and her camping, bowling and work families.

Malissa was preceded in death by her parents; and several aunts &amp; uncles.

&nbsp;Funeral services will be held Friday, September 1 at 11 a.m. at the Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with Rev. Alex Rossow officiating. &nbsp;Burial will be in Wamego City Cemetery.

Hermine "Oma" Odle, 80, of Junction City, formerly of the Woodbine, Kansas area passed away on Friday August 25, 2023 at Valley View Senior Life Center. 

Cremation will take place. A public visitation will take place 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home.

Oma was born May 30, 1943 in Germany the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gotzel.She was well known in the Woodbine by being "Oma". She owned the Woodbine Cafe. If Oma wasn't fishing she was picking up tin cans on the highway and spending time with her grandchildren. She always thought she could fix it herself and could be found tinkering. Oma was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. Her hobbies were watching soccer, scratch-off lottery tickets, and playing the slot game at 5th Street Pub. Oma had a big heart and good sense of humor. She would help anyone.In December of 1961, she married Alton Ray Odle. They later divorced in 1981.

Survivors include one son, Michael Odle and his wife Kathy of Abilene, Kansas; three daughters, Iwonne Schardein and her husband Edward of Herington, Kansas, Barbara Gott of Paragould, Arkansas and Debora Douthit of Stillwater, Oklahoma; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Alois Gotzel and one sister, Inge Flachs.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was born on February 19, 1999, to Jeffrey and Katheryn (White) Staines in Knoxville, TN. He graduated from Lejeune High School, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in 2017. Pacey was an avid outdoorsman, he loved spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. After high school, he enlisted and served honorably in the U.S. Army as a Combat Engineer (12B).While stationed on Fort Riley, Kansas, he met his loving wife Alexis. They were married on March 19, 2019, in Riley County. Together they shared three children. Pacey shared his love of the outdoors with his children; exploring the vast outdoors from coast to coast. He dreamed of taking his family across the world to see where he grew up as a child, one of those places being Okinawa, Japan.Pacey devoted a majority of his time to the Lord. His spirituality was inspirational to everyone around him. He taught the word of God to his children, family, and friends. He prioritized his family by being a devoted and loving husband, father, son, and brother. His contagious smile lit up the room the moment he entered, because of that, he never met a stranger. People he met always knew he was a man of merit and dependability.

He is survived by his loving wife, Alexis (Huante) Staines; two daughters, Elliana and Aurora; one son, Wyatt; parents, Jeffrey and Katheryn of North Carolina; one brother, Hunter (Angel) Staines of North Carolina; one sister, Hannah of North Carolina and a host of other family and friends.

They were married on March 19, 2019, in Riley County. Together they shared three children. Pacey shared his love of the outdoors with his children; exploring the vast outdoors from coast to coast. He dreamed of taking his family across the world to see where he grew up as a child, one of those places being Okinawa, Japan.Pacey devoted a majority of his time to the Lord. His spirituality was inspirational to everyone around him. He taught the word of God to his children, family, and friends. He prioritized his family by being a devoted and loving husband, father, son, and brother. His contagious smile lit up the room the moment he entered, because of that, he never met a stranger.
