David Eugene Knox of Navarre, KS, died on July 5, 2023 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS at the age of 63 years. David was born on September 1, 1959 in Junction City, KS to Joseph and Dorothy (Lynn) Knox. He grew up and attended school in Junction City, KS. After high school, David served three (3) years in the U.S. Army and two (2) years in the Abilene, KS National Guard. After serving in the military, David worked for many years at the Junction City Foundry until it closed. He then worked for Hamm Quarries until his health made him leave that job. David enjoyed working around the house and gardening in his spare time. He also enjoyed researching his ancestry and working word search puzzles. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Junction City, KS. David was married to Lori Corbett 1991; to that union one child, Chelsea Catherine was born. David and Lori were later divorced. David then met and married Rebecca ‘Becky’ (McGinnis) Grubbs on October 30, 2006. David was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and three (3) brothers: Donald, Douglas and Kevin; and a nephew, Joshua. He is survived by his daughter Chelsea (Reggie) Jacobs of Florida; two brothers, Greg (JoAnn Sutton) Knox of Manhattan, KS and Steven Knox of Chapman; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Graveside services for David will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the Navarre Cemetery with Pastor Jay Johnson officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. J. Raycille Chrisco 84 of Abilene passed away Monday, July 3, 2023. She was born in Dodge City October 3, 1938, the daughter of Ralph and Lucile (Regnier) Uden. She graduated from Abilene High School in the class of 1956. On August 24, 1957 she was united in marriage to Dennis L. Chrisco. He preceded her in death December 17, 2003.&nbsp; Raycille was a homemaker and a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Abilene. 

Raycille is survived by her two sons: Michael Chrisco and wife Becky of Olathe and Curtis Chrisco and wife Alison of Lawrence. Two grandchildren: Aaron and Megan Chrisco. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

 Mass of Christian Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Robert Wesley “Jake” Jacobson, age 90, of Manhattan, died December 4, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

He was born August 24, 1932, in Manhattan, the son of Alva Clemment and Anabelle (Finney) Jacobson.

Jake graduated from Manhattan High School with the Class of 1950 and then in Industrial Education from Kansas State University in 1963.

He served in the United States Air Force from March of 1952 to January 1956, during the Korean War. He had received the Purple Heart, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Jake had worked in car sales following his discharge, and then for Skaggs in Dodge City for two years before returning to Manhattan in 1961 to attend Kansas State University. He worked as a bartender at Wheel Bar in Estes Park from 1963 to 1965, taught Auto Mechanics at Manhattan High School from 1965 to 1967, was a Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance District Representative from 1967 to 1969, and then returned to Colorado where he worked for Keer Leasing Company in sales/lease returns. From 1988, until his retirement in 2000, he was the owner of the Fleet Resale Dealer for Western Fleet Resale in Denver, Colorado. He then returned to Manhattan in April of 2001.

He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed shooting pool and billiards, watching all sports on TV and was a fan of KSU, the Royals and K.C. Chiefs.

He was married to Greta F. (Cragg) Siddens on July31,1982, at the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. Greta preceded him in death on March 13, 2008. He was also preceded in death by one brother Charles, by his stepson Ted W. Siddens and step-daughter Trudy (Siddens) Hyden.

Survivors include his stepdaughter Carolyn Ann Siddens of Burlington, CO; and four siblings: Jane S. (James A.) McKim of Leawood, KS, Helen L. Thull (Gary) of Des Moines, IA, Donald R. (Vicki) Jacobson of Manhattan, KS and Marilyn C. (Delmar A.) Janovec of Littleton, CO and sister-in-law Abbey Jacobson of Katy, TX.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 17th, at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery southeast of Manhattan.

Robert Wesley “Jake” Jacobson

Harold Couchman entered the world March 2, 1933 as son of George and Elizabeth “Frankie” (Davison) Couchman of Garfield Kansas. He passed away on July 8th, at Meadowlark Hills - Honstead House, in Manhattan. Harold graduated from Garfield High School in 1951.

During his youth, Harold was very active in 4-H and earned about every trip available. In 1952, he was selected as one of four outstanding 4-Hers in Kansas and won a trip to a leadership camp in Washington DC. While in Washington DC, Harold was selected as one of two 4-Hers to present President Truman with a plaque for outstanding services to 4-H. Later in life, he spent years as a 4-H club leader in Clay County where his kids grew up through the 4-H and FFA programs.

Harold was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He enlisted on his 21st birthday with 12 of his friends including his cousin, Lorraine Couchman from Pawnee County Kansas. Harold attended basic training at Camp Chaffee Arkansas followed by radio operator and code school. Harold served two years active duty and spent time in Korea with the 5th armored Division, Company A of the 44th Engineering Battalion, obtaining the rank of Specialist Second Class. He served six more years in the U.S. Army Reserves after which he was Honorably Discharged having achieved the rank of Sergeant. During his service, Harold was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Korea Defense Service Medal.

Harold was united in marriage with Glennis Unruh in June of 1958 &amp; to this union three children were born, two sons and a daughter. They raised their children in rural Clay County. Harold was a master at designing intricate woodworking, electricity projects and gardening displays with his children for many County and State Fair exhibitions. The marriage ended in 1980. After growing up on a dairy farm raising Jerseys in Pawnee County, in 1958 Harold and his dad built an A&amp;W Drive-in in Larned, Kansas and ran it for ten years. After this time, he followed his father’s footsteps and became a carpenter and general contractor in the Clay Center, Manhattan, Topeka and Rossville area. Harold stepped away from General Contracting for a few years and worked for the maintenance department of Friend’s University in Wichita Kansas, retiring in 1995. After retirement, Harold returned to his passion of carpentry work and specialized in home projects of remodeling, finishing basements and additions. There are many proud homeowners in Northeast Kansas that are happy to show off and brag about Harold’s craft work that highlights his eye for detail.

After Harold was unable to continue carpentry work, Harold worked seven years at Rossville Caseys and was known for the special touches he provided to the pizzas he made. Harold developed a new passion volunteering for the Rossville Community library. He contributed many hours to preparing projects for the children programs offered at the library. In 2020, Harold was recognized by Friends of Kansas Libraries for an Outstanding Individual Award. In 2022, Harold was featured on WIBW during the Salute our Heroes segment for his service to the military and the library.

Harold’s greatest joys were square dancing and going to his grand and great grandchildren's activities, attending Kansas State football and basketball games. He was fortunate to attend many of the bowl games. In addition, he was an avid KC Chiefs fan and attended the Chiefs first Super Bowl game, in the LA Coliseum.

Harold was preceded in death by his father in 1974 and mother in 1993. He is survived by his companion and best friend of twenty-five years Charie Broughton of Rossville Kansas, sister Eileen Donham, Derby Kansas, two sons: Larry and Carol Couchman and Garry Couchman of Manhattan Kansas, daughter Terry and Steve Hodges of Des Moines, Iowa. Grandchildren: Andrew and Erin Couchman, Leah and Jarrod Sheldon, Benjamin and Rachel Couchman, Sarah and Jason Baker, all residing in Wamego Kansas, Matthew and Jayden Couchman, Goddard Kansas, Destini Warnke Lincoln, Nebraska, Kaitlyn Hodges, JD Cocker and Steven Hodges of Altoona Iowa. Thirteen great grandchildren of which eleven reside in Wamego Kansas, one in Arlington Texas and one in Altoona Iowa. Charie’s daughter Gina and Corey Ervay, Andover Kansas, son Greg and Debby Taylor, Topeka Kansas and three additional “grandchildren”. In addition, there are many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, June 14th, at the Westview Community Church, 615 Gillespie, Manhattan, with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan. As a tribute to Harold’s passion for Kansas State please wear your favorite Kansas State attire to the service.

Joyce Marie Witmer, 78, of Saint George, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 7th, 2023 at her home. For 15 years she worked as the front desk receptionist at the former Motel Six in Manhattan. Joyce was also a seamstress at Artex Manufacturing for 5 years, but more especially she was a homemaker and mother.

Joyce was born in Carthage, Missouri on March 10,1945, the daughter of the late Ernest A. Hurst and Vina Roberta (Jackson) Osborn. On Aug. 9, 1961 in Joplin, Missouri she was united in marriage to Gary Lee Witmer, for over 59 years until his passing on October 25, 2020. She also attended the Zeandale Community Church in Zeandale, Kansas. She and Gary, Sr. enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

&nbsp;She is survived by two daughters; Melinda J. (Jim) McCoy, of Saint George; Mary A. (Kenneth) Stevenson, also of St. George; two sons Gary Lee Witmer, Jr., of Manhattan and Mike Sean Witmer, of Manhattan; 1 brother, Billy Osborn, of Grove, Oklahoma; also surviving are her grandchildren; Nik McCoy; Crystal Heath; Brenda Stevenson; Joshua Stevenson; Justin Stevenson; great grandchildren: Trenton McCoy; Colton Smith; Kaelyn McCoy; Gabriel Taber, Haylee Heath.

Joyce Marie Witmer

Verlee Darlene Fronce, age 83 of Manhattan, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023 in the Bramlage House at Meadowlark Hills.

She was born on December 9, 1939 in Salina, the daughter of Vearl West and Vera (Perrill) West Cravens.&nbsp; Her parents divorced early on and she was then raised and loved dearly by her step father, Roy Cravens.&nbsp; She attended Manhattan area schools, graduating from Manhattan High school in 1958.

On May 29, 1958, at the Ashland Community Church, she married Larry Joe Fronce.&nbsp; They met at a community square dance at the age of 15.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on July 29, 2020.

She worked various jobs for several years, spending most of those years at Dillons.&nbsp; She worked in the Dillons Bakery, then managed the Seafood Department and then moved on to manage the Deli Department.&nbsp; She retired from Dillons working as a Pharmacy Technician in the Pharmacy department.&nbsp;

Darlene loved her family and friends greatly.&nbsp; When her son Jeffrey was born with Down Syndrome in 1960, she played a key role in bringing parents of special needs children together in Manhattan, as there were not many, if any, programs like these in place at that time.&nbsp; These included Special Olympics and programs for Special Populations within the city. She loved supporting her grandkids in all their ventures; sports, musicals, and job related activities.&nbsp; She was an active member of her ESA sorority and truly enjoyed her time together with these ladies. She loved family gatherings and game nights.&nbsp; She loved to travel, especially enjoying Estes Park in the fall. Up until her move into Meadowlark in November 2022, she loved the views of the sunrises and sunsets from her house by the lake.&nbsp; She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

She is survived by two sons, Larry Dean Fronce of Manhattan and Todd Anthony Fronce and wife Deyanira of El Paso, Texas; one daughter, Krista Thaemert and husband Tom of Manhattan; three brothers, Wayne Cravens and wife Bonnie of Manhattan, Kenneth Cravens and wife Sandy of Manhattan and Mike Cravens and wife Dani of Wamego; one sister, Jan Speckman of New Mexico; five grandchildren, Justin Fronce, Savannah Thaemert, Reese Thaemert, Sarah Fronce and Abby Fronce and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jeffrey Jay Fronce; one sister-in-law, Joyce Fronce and one brother-in-law, Clyde Fronce.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on July 6, 2023 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home. &nbsp;Inurnment will be in the Carnahan Creek Cemetery.

 </figure>Verlee Darlene Fronce, age 83 of Manhattan, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023 in the Bramlage House at Meadowlark Hills.She was born on December 9, 1939 in Salina, the daughter of Vearl West and Vera (Perrill) West Cravens.&nbsp; Her parents divorced early on and she was then raised and loved dearly by her step father, Roy Cravens.&nbsp; She attended Manhattan area schools, graduating from Manhattan High school in 1958.On May 29, 1958, at the Ashland Community Church, she married Larry Joe Fronce.&nbsp; They met at a community square dance at the age of 15.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on July 29, 2020.She worked various jobs for several years, spending most of those years at Dillons.&nbsp; She worked in the Dillons Bakery, then managed the Seafood Department and then moved on to manage the Deli Department.&nbsp; She retired from Dillons working as a Pharmacy Technician in the Pharmacy department.&nbsp;Darlene loved her family and friends greatly.&nbsp; When her son Jeffrey was born with Down Syndrome in 1960, she played a key role in bringing parents of special needs children together in Manhattan, as there were not many, if any, programs like these in place at that time.&nbsp; These included Special Olympics and programs for Special Populations within the city. She loved supporting her grandkids in all their ventures; sports, musicals, and job related activities.&nbsp; She was an active member of her ESA sorority and truly enjoyed her time together with these ladies. She loved family gatherings and game nights.&nbsp; She loved to travel, especially enjoying Estes Park in the fall. Maxine Faye (Mapes) Oatney, age 92 of Waterville, passed away surrounded by family on July 4th, 2023 at the Blue Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center, Blue Rapids, KS.&nbsp;

She was born to Harry and Pearl (Holland) Mapes in Waterville on August 3, 1930. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1948.

She married Harris Eugene Oatney on November 22, 1948 at the Methodist Parsonage in Waterville, KS. &nbsp;He passed away in 1985.&nbsp;

Maxine worked as a public servant in nursing homes in her early years before moving to the Waterville area in 1968. She cooked at the Village Inn for several years, before going to the Waterville Grade School as their cook and custodian for 14 years. She enjoyed cooking for family, family reunions, puzzle books, playing cards, listening to country music and visiting with friends.

Maxine is survived by her four children, daughter Alice (Mick) Swearingen, son Jim (Kim) Oatney, son John (Buffy) Oatney all of Waterville, daughter Jill (Brad) Schramm, Bremen; one brother Dean (Ida) Mapes, Guam; &nbsp;two daughters-in-law, Maxine (Larry) Plegge, Marysville and Dottie Oatney, Kansas City area; eleven grandsons and several great grandchildren.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harry; two sons Allen and Joe; two grandsons Scott Swearingen and Zack Oatney; four great grandchildren Chelsie Oatney, Brady Mills, Easton Oatney and Gabriel Oatney; two great great grandchildren, Otis and Russell Weber; and six siblings, Harry Mapes, Helen Jensen, Bill Mapes, Cecil Mapes, Delbert Mapes and June Jorgenson.

Viewing is from noon until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July, 10, 2023 with a visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

Dorothy Frances Morrow, age 82 of Clay Center, passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 at the Clay County Medical Center.

She was born on January 22, 1941 in Johnson City, Tennessee, the daughter of Alfred Clifford and Emma Myrtle (Smith) Pritchard.

She grew up in an orphanage and later in a group home for girls. She married Lloyd Montgomery Bigger in 1960 in Glendale, Arizona. They later divorced. She worked many jobs in her lifetime, from picking cotton as a teen, working in the school cafeteria in Glendale, shrimping in Gulfport, Mississippi. Her last job before retirement was with Checker Auto.

She loved fishing, playing cards, board games and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. The outdoors was her favorite place to be, often camping with her dog, Sugar.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Eric Johnson.

Survivors include her two daughters, Kay Johnson of Clay Center and Ann Gogel and husband Gilbert of Queen Creek, Arizona; four grandchildren, Jenifer Davies and husband Steve of Clay Center, T. J. Davis and wife Desirae of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Michael Gogel of Queen Creek, Arizona and Chad Gogel and wife Natalie of Reno, Nevada; five great grandchildren, Coby Davies, Corbyn Davies, Amber Johnson, Cole Davies, and Eliana Gogel.

Richard R. Terrian, of Wakefield, KS joined his heavenly Father on 7/1/2023. He was surrounded by his family and sent off to his new heavenly home with an outpouring of love and support.

Richard had a full life filled with many stories, adventures and accomplishments. The most important being his loving relationship with God and His Son Jesus Christ.

Richard's family was his next love. He loved his family so very much. He had a generous loving heart and forgiving spirit. He believed in not only second chances, but as many chances as it took to make things right. He was a great listener and took his time to think before responding. He was a hard worker who always provided for his family in every way possible. He was more than a husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle or cousin. He was our friend, our confident, our support, our love.

Richard was a proud Army veteran who retired after 20 years of service. He served in the 1st Squadron, 4th Calvary, 1st Infantry Division, who were awarded the Presidential Unit Citation Award by President Lyndon Johnson for their valiant service. He loved his country, believed in freedom and doing what he could for his fellow man.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Connie of 59 plus years. His children: Richard and wife Sonya Terrian, Kristy and husband Eric Eickholt and Kami Shandy. His grandchildren: Samantha and husband Michael Duckworth, Matthew and wife Michaela Shandy, Richie Terrian Ill, Dougie Shandy and LaNae Terrian. Great grandchildren: Beckham and "baby" Shandy and Beatrice Duckworth. Sister: Doris Williams. Cousin: Carla Reetz and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters and a grandson, Jack.

A private military service will be held in his honor at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Manhattan.&nbsp;

Richard R. Terrian

Arthur (Art) M. Nease, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Abilene, Kansas on July 3, 2023. Art was born on January 4, 1932 in Lawrence, Kansas to Arthur M. Nease, Sr. and Fannie (Abel) Nease. He attended Lawrence Liberty Memorial High School and the University of Kansas while on a Navy ROTC Scholarship.

At KU, Art was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and particularly enjoyed music. He played the trumpet with the KU Marching Band and the string bass with the University orchestra. On weekends, Art played in a college band that played house parties and other events. Art also was in charge of the TKE Serenades, a group that that would sing to girls in sororities, dorms and scholarship halls. It was during one of these serenades that a coed from the Tri Delt house, Marilyn Sorem , first laid eyes on Art. The two started dating several years later and were married on June 14, 1959, recently celebrating their 64th Wedding Anniversary. Art graduated from KU with a degree in Business Administration and later the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Banking. He commissioned into the Navy as a Supply Officer, where he served in the Pacific. Upon completion of his Naval duties, Art went to work for the FDIC as a bank examiner. After several years with the FDIC, Art purchased the State Exchange Bank in Barnes, Kansas, where he resided as President for 30 years.

After retiring from the bank, Art and Marilyn moved to Abilene, Kansas where he worked part-time at the Eisenhower Presidential Museum and Library for almost 20 years. He loved working at the Museum because he enjoyed history and meeting people from all over the world. In Abilene, Art was active in the Kiwanis club, St. John’s Episcopal Church and sang for several years in the annual Messiah concerts at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas.

Art’s main hobbies were golf and KU athletics. He played golf any time he could, and in his younger days traveled with friends for golf vacations and enjoyed playing in various tournaments throughout the state. As for KU, Art was a loyal Jayhawk from the cradle and held football and basketball season tickets for over 50 years. Proceeding Art in death were his parents. He is survived by wife, Marilyn; daughter, Jordan Brennan (Marc); son, Arthur Miles; grandson, Cort Brennan; sister, Patricia Dix; brother, Donald Nease (Sandra) and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of Art’s caregivers from the Veteran’s Administration for their kindness and support. They were a Godsend.

Wilma Barten Anderes, 101, died June 30, 2023 at Chapman Valley Manor. She was born December 26, 1921 in Elmo, Kansas and graduated from DCHS in 1939. She married Albert “Bud” Anderes August 5, 1944 in Macon, Georgia while he was in the Army/Air Corp. Albert preceded Wilma in death. Their children are Michael (Mary) of Arlington, TX, Dennis (died as newborn), Catherine (Ted, deceased) of Kansas City, Missouri, and Patricia (Larry) of Chapman. Wilma has six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews. Wilma was a wonderful homemaker. She loved cooking for family, spending time with grandchildren, playing Skipbo with any willing visitor, crocheting, reading, taking phone calls from family and friends, laughing and making you feel loved. Mass of Christian burial for Wilma will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2023 at the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Abilene with Father Peter O’Donnell as Celebrant. Stephen Capps, age 77, of Manhattan, died July 4, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society in Wamego, Kansas.

He was born in San Francisco, California, on February 10, 1946. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and OraLee Capps; his sister, Janlyn Kaspari (Bruce) and his sister Sharon Gail Trax (Clifford).

Steve is survived by his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Capps; his sister-in-law Shirley Williams, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota and brother-in-law, Bob Maner (Jo), of Collinsville, Oklahoma, and sister-in-law Betty Maner (James), of Manhattan, Kansas; and also, his numerous nieces and nephews, and his great-nieces and great nephews.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and watch NASCAR and football, especially Patrick Mahomes. Steve sold swimming pools for many years in Tulsa, Oklahoma then Sacramento, California, and finally in Wichita, Kansas until he retired.

Services for Steve will be held later in the year in Oklahoma.

Carolyn Valerius, age 76, of Manhattan, KS, died July 3, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

She was born April 21, 1947, in Clay Center, KS, the daughter of James Stanley &amp; Jane (Eustace) Stanley.

While she was born in Clay Center, KS she lived her early life in California &amp; Florida. She graduated from Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport, FL and then attended the Gulfport Academy beauty school where she became a hairstylist.

She was married to Bud (James B.) Valerius on April 30, 1970 in St. Petersburg. They raised their family there until May 1979 when they moved to Manhattan to be closer to her parents.

Bud &amp; Carolyn started Economy Electric in 1980. While he did the electrical, she ran the office &amp; took care of the house &amp; the children.

Family, friends &amp; animals were her main passions during her life. She was very artistic &amp; was always looking for new ways to express her talents, whether it was through crafts or cooking &amp; baking.

Survivors include her husband Bud &amp; their three children: Troy Valerius and his wife Heather of Phoenix, AZ, Eryn Schafer-Valerius and her husband Jason of Downingtown, PA and Brandon Valerius of Wichita, KS; her four grandchildren: Parker Valerius &amp; his wife Calli of Phoenix, AZ, Spencer Valerius &amp; his wife Maddie of Brandon, Suffolk, Cooper Valerius &amp; Tanner Valerius both of Phoenix, AZ; her two sisters Marilyn Thurlow and her husband David of Wakefield, KS and Sue Stanley of Glastonbury, CT; her two nieces &amp; nephew &amp; grandnieces &amp; grandnephews: Amanda(Thurlow) &amp; Dustin McCosh and Sophia &amp; Logan of Greeley, CO, Allison(Thurlow) &amp; Tracy Copenhaver and Téa, Nevaeh &amp; Ryan of Wakefield, KS and Justin &amp; Brittnye Thurlow and Macey of Wakefield, KS; and also her best friend/third sister of almost 60 years, Pinky Helgeson of Tierra Verde, FL.

Max William Fritz, 76, of Manhattan, passed away Wednesday, June 21st, 2023. He was a boiler operator at the Kansas State University power plant.

Max was born in Manhattan, on September 8, 1946, the son of the late Agnes Maxine (Noland) Meek and Jerry Fritz. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a barber in Great Bend.

Max met his wife, Kay Sump, while he was in the Navy. They were married on June 27, 1969, in Manhattan at the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan and were married for 52 years. They started their life as a family in Wichita, Kansas, where Max went to barber school. They moved to Lyons, then later to Ellinwood, Kansas, raising their daughters, Angela and Nicole, in Ellinwood. They had many friends in the community of Ellinwood and enjoyed the life they had built there.

Max is survived by two daughters, Angela K. Lenhart, of Manhattan, KS;

Nicole F. (Tom) Long, of Brown City, Michigan; also surviving ar his grandchildren, Jay (Dakota) Dormann, Katy (Thomas) Busby-Jordan, Taylor Lenhart, Avery Lenhart, Hannah Long, Peyton Long; great grand: children Kroy Dorman, Krese Dorman. Max was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Kay.

Arden K. Malsbury, 85, of Junction City, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Cremation will take place followed by an inurnment at Baker Cemetery, Burr Oak, Kansas. Both he and his wife will be laid to rest together. Born March 16, 1938, in Mankato, Kansas to Emory Dale Malsbury and Virginia Ruth St. Claire. Arden graduated from Cawker City High in 1956. He then joined the U.S. Navy where he served a four-year contract aboard two submarines: U.S.S. Charr and U.S.S. Bugara. While serving in the U.S. Navy, he married his wife Doris in Long Beach, California on July 5, 1958. They were happily married for 64 years and were blessed with their three children: Bernita, Grady, and Eric. Upon discharge, he went to work for the Daily Pilot newspaper in the product department. Arden also attended Orange County Community College and Santa Anna City College for electronics and computer programming on the IBM 3BA. He is survived by his three children, Bernita (Gary) Watts of Warrensburg, Missouri, Grady Malsbury of Junction City, Kansas, and Eric (Carmen) Malsbury of Lexington, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Kimberly Watts of Kansas City, Missouri, Kelly (Corey) Ryan of Augusta, Kansas, Kristina (Thomas) Klug of Overland Park, Kansas, Erica Jeffreys of Clayton, North Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Kip, Jackson, Lily, Kerri and a fifth on the way, Olsen (Ollie); and one brother, John (Lucy) Thomas of Valley Falls, Kansas. Loretta Bachan, 71, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023. She was born on July 3, 1951, Hammond, Indiana, to Oscar and Adeline (Passmore) McLaurin. Loretta worked at J.J. BMAR, RC Kennels, and Ekridge over the years. She loved working with dogs and owned almost 30 dogs throughout her lifetime. In 1970, she married Robert Bachan. They were married for 53 years until his passing in October of 2022. Loretta is survived by her dog, Rosie; family friends, Crystal Kausler of Junction City, Kansas, Dorothy Stewart of Chapman, Kansas, LaTisha Cantu of Manhattan, Kansas, and Richard Morrow of Cunningham, Tennessee. Barbara (“Barb”) Christine Seymour Currier went to be with her Lord on Sunday March 19, 2023 at Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice.

Barb was born Nov. 25,1955 in Manhattan, KS at the Memorial Hospital to Ada May (Bentley) and Harold Jay Seymour. Barb spent almost 36 years working in local rock quarries, loving every moment! She worked for Martin Marietta and then Bayer Construction. Barb was a proud K-State alumni ‘77, and brought others that enthusiasm whether working at KSU games, selling merchandise at Kansas Kollections, or watching and attending the games. She was rooting for K-State all the way through their tournament game. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Barb was married to William “Bill” Dean Currier on Nov 6, 1982 at the Zeandale Church. Barb leaves behind her four children, their partners, and grandchildren: Brett (Michael Evans) of Kansas City, MO, daughter Charity Lopez (Jose) and grandson Nathaniel of Vero Beach FL, David (Tania Gonzalez) of Bremerton, WA and Edward (Amy), twins Isla and Grayson of Bremerton, WA. A family service will be held later with a memorial to follow this summer at Grace Baptist Church 2901 Dickenson Ave. Manhattan, KS. Barb was preceded by her parents Ada May and Harold Jay Seymour, her baby sister Margarete, and her older brother Randall Ridgway. Barbara (“Barb”) Christine Seymour Currier

Perry E. Gile, 88, of Manhattan, formerly of Beatrice, Nebraska and Concordia, Kansas passed away Sunday afternoon on June 25th, 2023 in Manhattan.

Perry was born on a farm near Norway, Kansas, on May 9, 1935, the son of Julia Louise (Holgerson) and Walter LeRoy Gile. He was a graduate of Concordia High in 1953 and was united in marriage to Margaret Jean (Ryser) on November 22, 1953. He started working at Duckwall's on September 1951 and retired on January 30, 1991, after 39 years and five months.

Perry is survived by his wife Margaret and daughter Susan Zimmerman (Ervin) of Manhattan, Kansas. grandchildren Travis Cody, Shawn Zimmerman, (Jamie) Joscelyn Cody, Heather Mills (AJ), Kristine, Donahue (Tom), and Kyle Schimenti (Samantha). Great grandchildren Klayton, Ashley, Dawson, Delaney, Amelia, Anthony, Aaron, Mila, and Leighton. Baby Schimenti is to arrive in November. Sisters Joan Meili, Louise Kempton, Gertrude Heide, Janet Shrader, and Martha Gebhart (Jack).

He was a graduate of Concordia High in 1953 and was united in marriage to Margaret Jean (Ryser) on November 22, 1953. He started working at Duckwall's on September 1951 and retired on January 30, 1991, after 39 years and five months.Perry is survived by his wife Margaret and daughter Susan Zimmerman (Ervin) of Manhattan, Kansas. grandchildren Travis Cody, Shawn Zimmerman, (Jamie) Joscelyn Cody, Heather Mills (AJ), Kristine, Donahue (Tom), and Kyle Schimenti (Samantha). Perry E. Gile

Daniel (Danny) James Kitt Jr. of Olsburg, Kansas unexpectedly passed away on June 27, 2023. Dan was a long-time resident of Pottawatomie County Kansas. He was a member of the Coeur D' Alene tribe in Idaho where he grew up on the reservation.

He was the son of Daniel James Kitt Sr and Patricia Bedwell. Daniel was the oldest of six children. At the age of 15, Daniel Kitt Sr. tragically passed away. Daniel Jr. stepped up to help his mother raise his younger siblings.

Daniel married Danielle Dexter on September 18, 2010, in Manhattan, Kansas.

Dan was concerned for his fellow man and devoted his life to Public Service. He was passionate about his country and showed his patriotism through his dedicated service. &nbsp;Dan was a decorated disabled Air Force Veteran. He had deployments to Italy, Korea, and Bosnia. He was the Chaplin’s Assistant. Amongst other duties, he was responsible for providing security for the Chaplin in conflict zones. &nbsp;After his discharge, he was employed as a jailor/transport officer with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Dept. For the last five years, he served as the Captain of the Jail for Pottawatomie County. Dan later worked for the Riley County Transfer Station. He had a rock-solid work ethic and was passionate about everything he accomplished throughout his life.

&nbsp;Dan had a creative passion for constructing miniatures and tabletop gaming terrain. He spent many hours wearing magnifying glasses painting the fine details of the miniatures until they were perfectly finished. Daniel had a great sense of humor, and his laugh was contagious. He loved his family, and walking hand-in-hand with his wife, Danielle, and their dog Gabbie. He enjoyed helping his father-in-law with his ranch and cattle. &nbsp;On the ranch, Dan was just as creative. When something broke, he found an unorthodox way of fixing it. Often, he was met with doubt for his “fix it” creativity but to everyone’s surprise, it always seemed to work. Most importantly Dan was a role model of strength, a fierce protector, compassionate, selfless, and a master at problem-solving with a steady calm. &nbsp;

Dan was loved by all, and he is greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Danielle, and Bonus-daughter Alexis Potts of the home. Son, Jon (Courtney) Chiantaretto Kentucky, Daughter, Kourteney Kitt Colorado, and three Grandchildren. Noah Johnson, Eliauna Johnson of Colorado Amelia Chiantaretto Kentucky. Mother and Stepfather, Pat and Bill Snyder Clay Center. Daniel (Danny) James Kitt Jr. - November 3, 1971 - June 27, 2023

Cynthia Ann Worthing, 74, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Friday (June 30, 2023) at her home in Wamego.

Born June 30, 1949 in Beloit, Kansas, Cynthia was the daughter of Marvin Glen and Marieta Magdalene (Adams) &nbsp;Eberhart. She was raised in Jewell, Kansas and graduated with her degree from Vernons School of Cosmetology. She moved to Wamego in 1979. &nbsp;She married Clifford Ray “CR” Worthing on January 1, 1981 at the Wamego United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on April 3, 2020.

An active member of the Wamego Community, Cynthia was involved with many groups and committees over the years, most recently as a member of the committee that installed the new pickleball and basketball courts. She loved playing pickleball!

She was a member of the Sweet Adelines and the Wamego Country Club. Cynthia loved life and sharing her life with her family and friends. &nbsp;She enjoyed traveling across the United States and had taken trips to Europe, Costa Rica and Australia. She especially enjoyed her mother/daughter trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. &nbsp;While on her trips, she always wanted to enjoy and experience the local culture.

Cynthia was known for her cooking, especially her banana bread cobbler. &nbsp;She will be remembered for her generosity to anyone who was in need and for her favorite saying, “It is what it is”.

Cynthia owned and operated several local businesses, including the Amoco Station, C. W’s Fabulous Finds and the Last Stop which she sold in 2017. &nbsp;She also helped her husband as the bookkeeper for CR’s Tire and Automotive for many years.

Cynthia was Mom to Tambria “Tammy” Pfannenstiel and her husband, Mark of Wichita, KS; Nana to Gavin McGee, Chloe McGee, Trent Pfannenstiel and Taylor Pfannenstiel; Sister to David Warren Eberhart and his wife, Dee of Lindsborg, KS; and Sister in law to Linda Worthing Cottrell of Wamego, KS and Gordon Worthing and his wife, Kim of Lyndon, KS. &nbsp;She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, CR.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday (July 20, 2023) at 10:30 a.m. at the Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with Rev. Alex Rossow officiating. &nbsp;Inurnment will be in the Belvue Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be Thursday morning (July 20, 2023) from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.

Lesa Jane Adee, 68 of Junction City, passed away June 24, 2023. She was born February 1, 1955 in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of Dean and Patricia (Eggleston) Davis. She graduated from Escalon High School in California. Lesa was a selfless, caring person who loved bringing joy to anyone she met, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

 Lesa is survived by her daughters, Rachael Gehringer and Ranie Grebin. Two brothers: Mike and Tim Davis; sister, Linda Swartz and brother-in-law Lester Burleson. Five grandchildren: Kaleb Harwood; Jerek Humphrey; Rylan Gehringer; Sam Gehringer and Ivris Grebin. One great grandson, Oliver Pastran. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Teresa Burleson.

Celia Ellen Miranda, 70 of Abilene passed away June 23, 2023. She was born October 27, 1952 in Council Bluffs, Iowa the daughter of Charles Arthur and Dorothy Lillian (Skaife) Hosford.

 Celia is survived by her daughter, Tami Lyne of Salina. Two brothers, Clair Eugene Hosford and Cenyen Hosford, a sister, Casandra Woodward and two nieces, Beckie McConnell of Salina and Crystal Hosford of Belleville, Kansas and one nephew Matthew Hosford of Wellington, Kansas as well as great nieces, great nephews and grandchildren.

The family has chosen cremation. Services will be held at a later date.

Betty Jean Mosier, age 99, of Manhattan, died June 27, 2023, at Meadowlark Hills – Collins House.

She was born June 15, 1924, in Elmdale, Kansas, the daughter of Roy and Gertrude “Gaga” (Hayden) Willey.

Betty grew up in Emporia and Wellington, Kansas, and graduated from Wellington High School in 1941. She moved to Manhattan in September of 1941 and attended Secretarial School and worked for a building company prior to attending Kansas State College, where she was a cheerleader. She was married to Dr. Jacob E. “Jake” Mosier on September 16, 1945, at the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. Following the birth of her four children Betty returned to Kansas State and graduated Cum Laude in 1968.

Betty was a homemaker and loved her family and the privilege of having all of her children returning to live in Manhattan. She was active with the children’s school activities including Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and being a room mother.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, P.E.O – FK, Alpha Delta Pi, KSU Social Club, Review Club, KVMA Aux., AVMA Aux., KSU Alumni Association Board, “The Art of it All” Board at the Town Center Mall and the Creative Arts Guild. Her honorary memberships include Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Sigma Delta and Delta Phi Delta.

Betty was an amazing artist and excelled in watercolors, enjoyed stamp art, gardening, sewing and decorating.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Jacob “Jake” Mosier on April 25, 2001.

Survivors include her four children: Dr. Steven Mosier (Diane), Dr. Michael Mosier (Becky), Dr. Kelly Mosier (Katrina) and Dr. Susan Mosier all of Manhattan; grandchildren: Zachary Mosier (Dene), Dr. Noah Mosier (Jennica), Joshua Mosier (Tara), Dr. Katie Sutton (James), Maggie Ubel (Tim), Dr. Annie Mosier Eslit (Shane), Amie Musselman (Paul), Whitney Mosier-Jacobs (Brandon), and Ty Mosier (Abbie); and great grandchildren: Grace, Gabrielle, Stella, Claire, Isaac, Decker, Sadie, Emma, Becca, Mila, Jacob, Isabelle, Jacob, Avery, Finley, Walker and Violet.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 3rd, at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, with Pastor Donna Voteau officiating.&nbsp; Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.. Monday in the Connecting Link at the church prior to the service.
