Roy G. Head, age 88, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, KS. He was born on May 21, 1936, to Ray and Doris (Wieble) Head, Leonardville, KS.

Roy married Shari (Johnson) Head on August 26, 1957, in Junction City, KS.

Roy was an Army Reserve Veteran who obtained the rank of Second Lieutenant. After serving in the reserves, he worked as a teacher for one year before returning to college and earning a master's degree. He then had a thirty-year civil service career, finishing as a comptroller at Fort Riley. Roy was also an avid Kansas State fan.

Roy is survived by his wife, Shari, Manhattan, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by both parents; a sister, Bonnie Kidd, and his son, David Charles Head, who passed in 2012.

A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at Bottle Caps in Manhattan on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 1-4 p.m.

He will be laid to rest at Milford Cemetery, Milford, KS at a later date.

Daniel Merle Clawson 82, passed on August 27, 2024, in his Manhattan, Kansas home overlooking the lake, surrounded by the love of his life, Jayette, family, and friends.

Born July 31, 1942, to U.S. Army officer Samuel Clawson and his wife Helen, Daniel was the second eldest of five children. Daniel pursued the family tradition of service, joining the U.S. Army.

Following his retirement in the late 1960s as a Disabled Veteran, he transitioned to become a civil servant supporting the Department of Defense for the U.S. Army and NOAA. In the early 1980s the family relocated from Texas to Northern Virginia where Daniel served in many capacities including the Chief, Army Acquisition Corps Management Office, Officer Personnel Management Directorate, Personnel Command; Chief, Career Management Operations, Personnel Command; and the Civilian Personnel Advisor to the Army Surgeon General, headquarters, Department of the Army.  During this time, Daniel continued advancing his education, completing Graduate Studies at George Mason University and Executive Leadership at the Federal Executive Institute.

In 1996 Daniel and Jayette moved to Fort Riley, Kansas where Daniel became the Director of the Southwest Personnel Operations Center and later U.S. Army Benefits Center.  As the senior department of army civilian for Fort Riley, Daniel was exceedingly proud of his time spent building and leading the men and women of these organizations.

At the conclusion of forty-three years of federal and military service, Daniel retired in 2003 and began his tenure as the CEO of Virtual Team Works, devoting the next eleven years to supporting the U.S. government in a consulting capacity.

After fifty-four years of employment, Daniel and Jayette began traveling with some favorite locations being Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean, and Europe. They also enjoyed ballroom dancing, following big bands, and traveling back to the east coast to spend time with family.

Daniel was a lifetime member of the DAV, and the American Legion, as well as a proud founding member of the National Museum of the U.S. Army.

Daniel is survived by his wife Jayette of fifty-nine years and their three children, Jaylynn Viands (Mike Viands), Samuel Clawson (Carrie Clawson), and Nathaniel Clawson (Megan Clawson), seven grandchildren and spouses (Andy Viands (Taylor), Nick Viands (Nuzhat), Jessica Gogolin (Andrew), Daniel Clawson, Joshua Clawson, Bailey Clawson, and Zachary Clawson), and three great-grandchildren (Grayson Viands, Wesley Viands, and Anaya Viands).

&nbsp; Sue Swenson, 79, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024 at her home in Junction City surrounded by her loving family. Sue was born September 30, 1944, in Manhattan, Kansas the daughter of Ned and Olivette (Schump) Wade. Sue graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1962. She later graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing with the class of 1966. She also attended Emporia Teacher's College in Emporia, Kansas for one year. Sue worked at as a nurse at Irwin Army Community Hospital. She also spent fifteen years working as a school nurse for USD 475 in Junction City, Kansas.

Sue was an avid quilter. She made many quilts for the White City Fourth of July celebration. She enjoyed reading and traveling. She was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Herington, Kansas. On August 14, 1983, she married Jack L. Swenson at the Episcopal Church of the Covenant in Junction City, Kansas. Sue is survived by her loving husband Jack; one son, Jason W. Swenson of Junction City, Kansas; two granddaughters, Lullaby and Augusta Swenson; one brother, Lyle Wade of Herington, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Christine who was stillborn.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; Wendell Brooks, 65, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on August 22, 2024, in his home surrounded by his family. A funeral service is pending.

Wendell was born on April 19, 1959, to Marion Brooks, Sr. and Bernice (Bolden) Brooks in Saint Louis, Missouri. After graduating from high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Army on August 1, 1978. He served his country for 12 years, honorably leaving in June 1991. During his years in the military, he had four of his children with his wife, Ethel. After leaving the military he had his fifth. After his service, he worked construction for many years. He then switched careers for government contracting on Fort Riley.

Wendell's passion was working on his vehicles and finding that perfect bargain. His children can remember those days sifting through the D.A.V. or the local GoodWill with him. Education was very important to him. He made sure to instill this with his kids as they grew up. They continue to hold these traits today. 

Wendell's family was his top priority and he always made sure to be there for them. Wendell is survived by his wife, Ethel; four children, Jennifer Brooks of Junction City, Kansas, Michael Brooks of Junction City, Kansas, Barbara Brooks of San Antonio, Texas, and Robert Brooks of Junction City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Jordan and Adonis Brooks; four honorary grandchildren, Pax, Layla, Nathaniel, and Wyatt; his friends John Torres, Amy Fernandez, and Joel Celestin. &nbsp; Jerome D. Hires, 76, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on August 22, 2024, at Stormont-Vail Healthcare Topeka, Kansas.

Jerome was born on December 18, 1947, to Benjamin Frank Hires Jr. and Daisy Belle Philpot in Live Oak, Florida. Growing up with four siblings in Tampa, Florida, allowed him to realize the importance of family. He graduated from Middleton Senior High in 1966. After graduation, he enlisted into the U.S. Army in the year 1966, at Jacksonville, Florida. Jerome served his country honorably until his retirement in 1990, while stationed on Fort Riley, Kansas. Jerome served three combat tours in Vietnam. He was very proud of his military service and continued to serve his country after retirement by working with D.P.W. on Fort Riley, retiring a second time in 2010.

His family and friends knew him as a devoted father and caring person. Being family oriented was very special to him. This allowed him to spend his free time with his children, grandchildren, and his extended family. Fishing was one of his favorite past-times. Some of his fishing holes would be Moon Lake, Breakneck Lake, and of course Milford Lake. Talented not only in fishing, but also in art and cooking as well. He made many family holiday dinners from scratch which will be remembered by his family. Some of his famous dishes to prepare was his Mac n Cheese, Collard Greens, Dirty Rice, and Deep Fried Turkey.

Jerome is survived by his loving daughters, Jessica (Esmond) Davis of Fort Knox, Kentucky and Erica (Ollie) Brown of Junction City, Kansas; two siblings, JoeAnn Streeter of Peachtree City, Georgia and Willie Earl Hires of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Julius E. Russell, Tavon "Bun" Brown, Navonte Brown, and Lennox Davis; his friend and former spouse, Carol Hires of Junction City, Kansas. Jerome was preceded in death by his loving parents; two siblings, Benjamin F. Hires III and Hazel Gordon.

A visitation will take place at Johnson and Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. followed by an interment at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Fort Riley Military Honor Team.

&nbsp; Jeffrey S. "Jeff" Koppenheffer, 54, of Junction City, Kansas died on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jeff will be cremated. A celebration of life service will be announced and held at a later date.

Jeff was born January 12, 1970, in Junction City, Kansas the son of Stephen and Sandra (Engstrom) Koppenheffer. Jeff graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1988. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Economics. It was important for him to go to college for an education. 

Jeff worked as a carpenter in Junction City for J &amp; S Construction. He was known in the community for his extensive historical work at Fort Riley with carpentry and masonry. He enjoyed metal detecting, playing golf, mushroom hunting and playing pool where he won a first place competition at Kansas State University. He also enjoyed competitive skeet shooting and spending time with his family.

On January 9, 2008, he married Monique Lafitte in Junction City, Kansas. Jeffrey is survived by his loving wife Monique "Nikki" of Junction City, Kansas; two sons, Justin Ortego and Jacob Reeves both of Junction City, Kansas; one daughter, Shelby Reeves of Junction City, Kansas; his father, Stephen Koppenheffer of Junction City, Kansas; one twin brother, Roger Koppenheffer of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Laura Cornejo of Mount Airy, Maryland; one grandson, Elliott Reeves with another on the way. He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jeff graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1988. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Economics. It was important for him to go to college for an education. Jeff worked as a carpenter in Junction City for J &amp; S Construction. He was known in the community for his extensive historical work at Fort Riley with carpentry and masonry. He enjoyed metal detecting, playing golf, mushroom hunting and playing pool where he won a first place competition at Kansas State University. He also enjoyed competitive skeet shooting and spending time with his family.On January 9, 2008, he married Monique Lafitte in Junction City, Kansas. Jeffrey is survived by his loving wife Monique "Nikki" of Junction City, Kansas; two sons, Justin Ortego and Jacob Reeves both of Junction City, Kansas; one daughter, Shelby Reeves of Junction City, Kansas; his father, Stephen Koppenheffer of Junction City, Kansas; one twin brother, Roger Koppenheffer of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Laura Cornejo of Mount Airy, Maryland; one grandson, Elliott Reeves with another on the way. He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;Dora Darlene Bentz was born January 4, 1927 to Donald and Jennie (Warner) Bentz in Milford, Kan. Darlene passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024 at the age of 97 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

Darlene grew up in rural Milford, and attended High Point Country School near Milford, graduating from Milford High School in 1944. She attended Kansas State University under the emergency certificate during WWII, and then taught at the Wetzel Country School in eastern Geary County, at Acme School east of Milford, and at High Point west of Milford.

Darlene married Leslie L. Lacer in Milford on Jan. 7, 1948. They made their home in Junction City, and together raised three sons. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1989.Darlene was a homemaker, and a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Caring about and praying for her family was always a priority. She loved to host holiday celebrations at her home, and enjoyed gathering the family together. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Junction City, and served as Sunday School superintendent for the nursery through kindergarten department for many years. She was also a devoted member of the Tuesday morning ladies prayer group. She loved singing in the church choir for many years, and sang at many weddings and funerals. She was a lunchroom attendant for many years at Franklin School in Junction City, and was a member of the Railroaders. She volunteered for several years at the Geary County Historical Museum.

Darlene married Robert “Bob” Hiatt on Jan.10, 1995. Together they enjoyed travel and camping trips with the Coachman Camping Club. Together with Bob, she also delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, and took part in activities at the Geary County Senior Center. She was greatly loved, and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, Bob, of the home in Junction City; three sons, David Michael Lacer, Wakefield, Steven Douglas Lacer and his wife Carol, Chapman, and Donald Edward Lacer and his wife, Lori, Junction City; eight grandchildren: Rachel Keck, Sarah Lacer, Jacob (Susan) Lacer, Joel (Melissa) Lacer, Brandon (Melanie) Deitrick, Jason Lacer, Joshua (Lesli) Lacer and Tina Lacer; 18 great grandchildren; a sister and brother in law, Charlotte and Larry Denver of Manhattan; many nieces and nephews; and Bob's children and grandchildren, who loved her as their own. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, L.L. Lacer, her parents, Don and Jennie Bentz, two sisters, Mary Whittet and Dorothy Don Roether, and a stepson, Wayne Lacer and his daughter Brenna Lacer.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2024 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. A private burial with family will be held at a later time. &nbsp; Steven Thomas Jacoutot, 58, of Winfield, Kansas passed away on August 16, 2024, at the Kansas Veterans Home. Steve was born on May 25, 1966, to Thomas and Cynthia (Pfeiffer) Jacoutot at Kokomo, Indiana. He graduated from Haworth High School in the year 1984. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, he served his country honorably.

During his military years, he served as Military Police. His passion for law enforcement would follow him during his whole life. After his first contract with the U.S. Army, he joined the Army National Guard while serving his community with the Topeka Police Department. During his employment with the Topeka Police Department, he had many roles such as their D.A.R.E officer and working with their Cadet Program. After hours from his law enforcement duties, he taught Tae Kwon Do to the local youth at the community rec center. He himself attained the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt.

After retiring from the Topeka Police Department, he decided to continue his higher education by returning back to school. He received a Master's Degree in Management Criminal Justice from Colorado Tech University in 2010. This was one of his proudest achievements.

Steve's family, friends, and co-workers will remember his jokes, smiles, and that infectious high pitch laugh that he had. He was the Super Bowl party host, always inviting his friends and family. He loved to host and doing so was his way of showing his love to the ones he cared about. Steven was an eternal optimist, one of his famous saying was, "It's just another day in paradise". Based on his faith, he is now finally right.Steven is survived by his loving mother, Cynthia; two sisters, Rebecca (Brian) Fye of Indiana and Suzanne (Graham) Roe of Indiana; one aunt, Cindy (Greg) Baker; one uncle, John Pfeiffer and one Godson, George Scharff. &nbsp; Marlene Ruth (Rahe) Smith, 90, of Junction City, Kansas went to heaven on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Reflection Living in Wichita, Kansas. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Rick Marrs and Pastor Tim McCall officiating. Marlene was born October 13, 1933, in Palmer, Kansas, the daughter of Emil and Clara (Rodehorst) Rahe. She was raised on a farm with her three brothers and graduated as valedictorian from Linn High School in 1951. After graduating, she worked for REA in Clay Center, Kansas and Kansas Power and Light in Salina, Kansas. On July 11, 1965, she married Orville Jerry Smith in Salina, Kansas. They moved to Junction City, Kansas where they lived and worked for over 50 years.

Marlene worked for many years for Geary County Public Schools as a secretary at Junction City High School. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Junction City, serving on the Evangelism Committee, singing in the choir, participating in Bible Study, making quilts with the Mission Sewers group, and volunteering within both the church and school. She supported the Geary County 4-H as a volunteer as well as volunteering as an election worker for Geary County.

In her free time, Marlene was an avid supporter of Junction City High School athletics and attended games with Jerry whenever possible. She was a loyal Kansas State fan, attending and watching games with family to cheer on the Wildcats as often as she could. Marlene was well known for frequently sending cards and letters to friends and family, and even regularly sending well wishes and encouragement to coaches and athletes from Junction City High School. She loved baking cookies and making other treats to share with friends and family and giving generously to many charities. Above all, she loved her family with her whole heart and soul as a wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma, and was a loyal, supportive friend and faithful servant of the Lord.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene Henry Baumfalk was born August 31, 1935 in Hitchcock County to Alvin and Hannah Pollmann Baumfalk and entered Heaven on August 21, 2024. Alvin passed away when Eugene was only eight years old. Hannah later remarried Harry Hein and two more brothers and a sister were added to the family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene graduated High School from Culbertson and lived in the Culbertson and the McCook area his entire life. Eugene enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959 and was honorably discharged in July 1960. On November 21, 1964, Eugene married Cleta Riley Felker. Eugene became a father to Donald, Ray and Lori with this marriage and in 1971 Eugene and Cleta welcomed another son, Paul.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene worked at the McCook Meat Packing Company for several years before going into business for himself laying carpet. Gene excelled at this trade and spent many years at it providing for his family. Eugene bowled on a bowling team for many years; 35 years of them with his son, Don. Bowling was one of the loves of his life along with fishing. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and New York Yankee fan and loved to watch them on TV with Cleta. Eugene also loved animals, but the true loves of his life were his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours caring for his grandchildren. Eugene was a kind and loving man with a deep love for his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed by his family.

Eugene Henry Baumfalk (1935-2024)

Sheron L. Swearingen, age 75, of Blue Rapids, passed away in Manhattan after a short illness on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Sheron was born April 30, 1949, at Kansas City, Missouri, to Charles W. and Margaret “Mickie” (Jopling) Dixon. She spent most of her childhood living in Lake Latawana, Missouri. She graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School. She was married to Rankin “Rank” Swearingen at their home outside Blue Rapids in 1992. He passed away in 2019.

Right after high school Sheron went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad, first in Kansas City, Kansas and then transferred to Marysville in 1985. Her last job at the railroad was as an Engineer. She retired from the Union Pacific after twenty-six years of work so she could be home more. She then worked for Titan Trailer Manufacturing in paint repair until her retirement. Looking for something to do, she worked the donut shift at Casey’s part time, until totally retiring.

Some of her favorite memories included, time with family, Thanksgiving and swimming. The times she traveled with Dan to Scotland and Ireland, ____ Republic, Puerto Vallarta, and Costa Rica, and their first trip which was to Hawaii. Float trips each summer with Dan,____ and Buffy. One on one time with the grandkids, and her many hobbies.

Survivors include her son Dan M Engle of Manhattan, daughters Amber Swearingen of Blue Rapids and Jackie Swearingen of Wymore, Nebraska, six grandchildren: Zoe’, Rylee, Ashlynne, Blaise, Ryker and Maverick Rankin, a brother Mike Dixon of Axtell and a sister Shannon (Shawn) Huffman of Wymore, Nebraska.

Preceding Sheron in death were her husband Rank, parents Charles and Mickie, and a brother Bradley Meade.

Respect calls will be from noon to 8:00 pm, Saturday, August 24, 2024, with a visitation from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home, Waterville.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids, with Mr. Rod Christie officiating. Special recorded music will be “God Bless The Broken Road”. Casket Bearers are to include: Dan Engle, Jeff Nelson, Cassidy Dixon, Mike Dixon, Andy Peregrine and Shawn Huffman. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.

She was married to Rankin “Rank” Swearingen at their home outside Blue Rapids in 1992. He passed away in 2019.Right after high school Sheron went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad, first in Kansas City, Kansas and then transferred to Marysville in 1985. Her last job at the railroad was as an Engineer. She retired from the Union Pacific after twenty-six years of work so she could be home more. She then worked for Titan Trailer Manufacturing in paint repair until her retirement. Looking for something to do, she worked the donut shift at Casey’s part time, until totally retiring.Some of her favorite memories included, time with family, Thanksgiving and swimming. The times she traveled with Dan to Scotland and Ireland, ____ Republic, Puerto Vallarta, and Costa Rica, and their first trip which was to Hawaii. Float trips each summer with Dan,____ and Buffy. Jane Logan Shea, born Emma Jane Logan on July 17, 1932, in Frontenac, Kansas, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2024, at Wellsprings of Westmoreland. She was 92 years old.

The daughter of Roy Delbert and Ellen West Logan, Jane grew up in Southeast Kansas, forming lifelong friendships that she cherished deeply. She was the youngest of four siblings, all of whom preceded her in death: Lois Gale, Ruth Alene, and Roy Delbert Logan Jr.&nbsp;

Jane attended Central Business College in Kansas City, where she met her best friend, Mary Ann Shea (Schumacher), now deceased. After completing her education, Jane worked as a secretary, eventually retiring in 1997 from Prairie States Marketing in Overland Park.

It was through Mary Ann that Jane met the love of her life, Loran Michael Shea. They married in 1972, and Jane quickly became an integral part of Loran’s life, endearing herself to his five children and becoming the beloved favorite grandparent to many grandchildren. She and Loran shared a deep bond, enjoying card games with friends, visits with grandchildren, and traveling to Loran’s Navy reunions. Jane remained devoted to Loran until his passing in 2005, never remarrying afterward.

In 2022, Jane moved to Wellsprings of Westmoreland, where she spent her final years. There, she found comfort in the camaraderie of Cork Schumacher, Mary Ann’s husband, and enjoyed frequent visits from her niece, Glenna Machin.

Jane is survived by her stepsons, Kelly Hilliard and Kirk (and wife Kathy) Shea; her daughter-in-law Barbara Shea; her grandchildren, Scott Canady, Eddie Phillips, Joshua Shea, Joanna Bidondo, Austin Shea, Stephen Shea, Matthew Shea, and Spencer Shea; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

&nbsp; Ray was born on April 6, 1937, in Alma, where he spent his childhood surrounded by a loving family. Ray was the son of Harvey Sommer and Lillian (Metzger).&nbsp;

&nbsp; Ray proudly served in the Kansas Army National Guard as a Light Vehicle Driver and Construction Machine Operator for 6 years after attending St. John Lutheran School in Alma. His dedication earned him Marksman and Sharpshooter accolades on the Carbine Rifle.

&nbsp; Ray was a dedicated oil truck driver and oil gauger for Texaco Inc., with an impressive record of 500K miles. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were unmatched as he served Texaco Inc. for 35 years before retiring in 1998. His passion for driving extended beyond retirement as he continued to work with Meier Industries LLC, hauling rock, sand, and dirt.&nbsp;

&nbsp; Ray was a member of the Golden Rule Lodge No. 90 Masonic Lodge in Topeka. He actively participated in the Arab Shriners in Topeka, supporting Shriners Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, for a decade.

&nbsp; Ray married Lazon Aldinger on August 16, 1986, in El Dorado, Kansas.

&nbsp; Despite his busy schedule, Ray always found time for his family. He cherished moments boating and camping with his beloved wife, creating countless memories in their collection of boats and campers. Their favorite location to visit was Tucson, Arizona, where they found peace and joy in nature's beauty. He was a dutiful lawn maintainer on his ride on mower. His garage was his sanctuary, where he tinkered and imparted valuable lessons to his children on vehicle maintenance.&nbsp;

&nbsp; In his personal life, Ray was known for his hardworking nature and unwavering dedication to his family. Ray will be deeply missed by his surviving family: his wife Lazon Sommer; his four children, Ronda Kraus (LeRoy), Rodney Sommer (Janet), Earl Pinkston Jr. (Becky), and Tina Lonnis; his nine grandchildren, Tami Creek-Galyean (Montana), Coltyn Lonnis, Earl "Denny" Pinkston III (Betsy), Jesse Zercher (Carrie), Kathleen Kelsey (Andy), Daniel Kraus, Courtney Gruetzmacher (Brandon), Ashton Bigger (Megan), and Kymberly Siemens; and his siblings Robert Sommer, Marlis Daaq, and Edward Sommer.

Brandie was the great-granddaughter of Margaret Barnett, granddaughter of Michelle Ciesielski, and daughter of Tracie and Maurice Dingemanse, as well as Michael Max (Heather). Loving sister to Samantha Friedel (Peter) and Michael Max (Dakota).&nbsp;She was a loving aunt to Augustus and Everett Friedel, and a beloved niece to Katie Feldt (Lloyd), Joetta Glessner (Michael), Leslie Dugan (Joe), and Chelsi Sterling (Robert), Tom Martin (Monica). Brandie also had many dear cousins, along with a special family of the heart: Kim, Katey, and Ashley Baldwin and David Koch. She was a devoted dog mom to her beloved Leo.

Ilene graduated from Manhattan High School in 1977. In 1983, she married the love of her life, Russell Briggs, and together they embarked on a shared adventure of building a life and family. In 1988, they founded Briggs Auto Group, a testament to their hard work and dedication. The joy of expanding their family came with the birth of their first child, Kent Briggs, in 1988, followed by their daughter, Amber (Briggs) Emley, in 1991.

Ilene’s greatest passion was her family, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was one to always offer their home to host a gathering of any kind if it meant getting family or friends together. She also had a deep and abiding love for flowers and her garden was proof of her nurturing spirit.

Ilene is survived by her husband, Russell Briggs; her children, Kent Briggs and Amber Emley (Ryan); and her grandchildren, Deacon and Grayson Emley. Judy was born on December 9, 1956, Junction City, Kansas the daughter of Ted and Chlora (Connolly) Bridges. Judy lived in Beacon, Iowa from 2016 until 2021. Judy worked for Geary Community Hospital in the laundry department. She enjoyed bingo and listening to Elvis. Everyone knew Judy by her jewelry. She liked the glitz and bling with jewelry. Most of all she enjoyed cooking her famous pork chops and spending time with her dogs. 

Judy was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She married George L. Smith February 14, 1976 in Junction City, Kansas. George died June 10, 2023. Judy is survived by two daughters, Mary L. Pope of Junction City, Kansas and Julie E. Smith of Junction City, KS; four grandchildren, Tyler M. Pope of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Nicholas R. Pope of Beacon, Iowa, Nathaniel L. Judy worked for Geary Community Hospital in the laundry department. She enjoyed bingo and listening to Elvis. Everyone knew Judy by her jewelry. She liked the glitz and bling with jewelry. Most of all she enjoyed cooking her famous pork chops and spending time with her dogs. Judy was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She married George L. Smith February 14, 1976 in Junction City, Kansas. George died June 10, 2023. Judy is survived by two daughters, Mary L. Pope of Junction City, Kansas and Julie E. Smith of Junction City, KS; four grandchildren, Tyler M. Pope of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Nicholas R. Pope of Beacon, Iowa, Nathaniel L. Smith and Kaylie Snyder both of Junction City, Kansas; three great-grandchildren, Mazikeen Jolene Pope, Remington Dean Pope and Alexandra Petrova Pope; one brother, Terry Estes of Onaga, Kansas; one sister, Pamela Keene of Junction City, Kansas. Judy is also survived by her dog Leila.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George L. Smith; two sisters, Janice D. Smocovich, Mary Estes; one brother, William L. Estes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; Peggy Marie Sorensen was born February 2, 1943 in Belleville Kansas, Peggy departed this earthly life August 6th, 2024 at her home in Abilene. Peggy had recently talked about seeing her parents Viola and Virgil White in heaven.

Peggy had two older sisters, Phyllis and Barbara. Peggy was united in marriage on May 27, 1962 to Robert Sorensen. Peggy and Bob lived in Emporia for four years. In 1966 Abilene became their new home. The last several years Peggy's entertainment was taking day trips in the car. Many times she commented “isn’t Abilene a nice town”.Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, her in-laws, aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband Robert, nephews and cousins. 

Peggy loved nature, especially birds and animals, Peggy and Bob lived on their “hobby farm” by Brown’s Park for 43 years where Peggy enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens. Bob and Peggy were married for 62 years and 2 months, Bob will truly miss his partner and companion. Cremation has been selected and there will be no local services. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Belleville, Kansas.

&nbsp; SGM (RET) Ronald Wayne Eckhardt, 81, of Junction City, Kansas, went to his peace with the Almighty on August 5, 2024, in his home. He was born on September 23, 1942, in Billings, Montana, the eldest child of Carl and Olinda (Hilderman) Eckhardt. He grew up in Billings and attended local schools, graduating from Billings Senior High School in 1960. He attended Eastern Montana College (MSU-Billings).

Ron entered the regular Army and retired from active duty on May 1, 1987, with the rank of Sergeant Major with 23 years of service. He married the love of his life, In Suk Kim, on August 26, 1975, in Seoul, Korea.

During his military career, he was stationed at several U.S. bases, as well as stations in Germany four times, Korea two times and Vietnam three times. He was awarded numerous medals and decorations including the Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and seven Good Conduct Medals. During and after his military service, he attended State University of New York - Albany and Kansas State University. After his military retirement, he was employed as an Information Systems Business Analyst, Kansas Farm Bureau Services, Manhattan, Kansas, until his retirement in 2003. He has lived in Junction City since 1982.He was a long standing member of the American Legion Post #45.

Ron enjoyed his German-Russian heritage and extended Eckhardt/Hilderman family history. He continued his genealogy research into his retirement. Most importantly, he was especially proud of his wife, children and grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife, In Suk Eckhardt of the home; son, Kevin Eckhardt of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter, Erika (Jeremy) McAdams of Ankeny, Iowa; three grandchildren, Copeland Eckhardt, Harper McAdams, and Dylan McAdams; sister, Diane Tatro of Tucumcari, New Mexico.

Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to the Scoliosis Research Foundation, Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;
