Paula Jo Wilson was born December 3, 1953, in Abilene, KS, to the 
late Paul Edward &amp; Pauline Bethel (Kohart) Hazelton.  She died on 
Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at her home in Davis, OK, at the age of 69
 years, 2 months, and 2 days.  Paula and Earl Dean Wilson were married 
on December 16, 1984, in Abilene.  He preceded her in death on September
 18, 2009.

Paula grew up in Abilene.  Following her 1971 
graduation from Abilene High School, she attended Fort Hays State 
University, in Hays, KS.  After college, she spent a few years working 
in hotel management, where her main job was coordinating conventions. 
While working in this field, Paula was fortunate to meet several 
well-known celebrities, professional singers, and musicians.  After 
leaving her position in convention coordinating, she spent five years 
working in hotel software logistics.  This position allowed her to 
travel about, assisting with the opening of new hotels.   After she and 
Earl married, Paula became a full-time mom.  She spent her time caring 
for her children and being active in Cub Scouts, PTA and many other 
interests that her children had.

Paula and her family 
moved to Oklahoma in 1995, where she continued her role as a very active
 mother.  Once the children were older, she attended East Central 
University in Ada, OK, where she earned a Bachelors degree in nursing.  
After graduating from ECU, Paula became employed with Mercy Health in 
Ardmore, OK, where until only a few months prior to her death, she 
worked as a registered nurse in the ICU.

Paula was 
known to be extremely creative. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and 
tutoring children with their reading skills.  Paula was also very active
 with the Pathway Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday School 
Superintendent for several years, as well as taught Sunday School 
classes.  Her desire to serve God, allowed her to witness to others, 
bringing many to know Jesus Christ as their personal savior, just as she
 knew him.

Survivors include her daughter, Rebekah Wilson 
of Davis; three sons, Erik Wilson of Davis, Paul Wilson &amp; wife Regan
 of Stratford, OK, and Neil Wilson &amp; wife Allison of Healy, KS; five
 grandchildren, Genesis, Jericho, Neo, Tyndale and Jay Wilson; three 
sisters, Judy Kohardt-Hazelton &amp; Jamie Davidson of Abilene, and 
Ellen Locke of Newton, KS; and one brother, David Hazelton &amp; wife 
Becky of Hutchinson, KS.

In addition to her parents and husband, Paula was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Riffel.

Funeral
 services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at 
the Pathway Methodist Church, in Davis, OK with Pastors Ben Williams and 
Robert Harrison officiating.  Interment will follow at the Green Hill 
Cemetery in Davis.

Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Pathway Men’s Breakfast Group.

Services are entrusted to Hale’s Funeral Home of Davis, OK.

Paula Jo Wilson

August 6, 1928 - February 10, 2023

To call Jack Vanier a founding father of a bygone rural Kansas culture would be three things at once.

An understatement, a compliment, and a chance for Jack to respond in 
his characteristic unassuming nature – accompanied by that brilliant 
smile – that he was just doing what came naturally.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

In his self-effacing, low-key way, it would also offer a golden opportunity for Jack to take issue with the “bygone” sentiment.

Soft-spoken and successful.Kind and productive.Reliable and generous.

If someone were to ask, “What does it mean to be called ‘the salt of 
the Earth?” One would only need to spend a few minutes talking about 
Jack Vanier to get a deep and meaningful sense.

Jack grew up on the bedrock of honesty. He came of age with a work 
ethic. Integrity drove his success in business. With his bride, Donna, 
he raised a family on faith. Jack Vanier did not struggle with a greater
 cosmic meaning of why he was here, and that’s what made him such a good
 husband, father and grandfather, rancher and businessman. That’s what 
made him such a good friend.

He loved his neighbor and walked humbly. His sense of humor put you 
at ease as soon as you encountered him. Jack Vanier was fun to be 
around.

Born in Salina, Kansas to John J. (“J.J.”) and Lesta Vanier. Jack 
operated the CK Ranch in Brookville, Kansas, once the largest producer 
of purebred Hereford cattle in the country. The family also held 
ranching interests in Wyoming, Colorado, and Oklahoma.

Jack offered his gift of service and leadership capacity to a host of
 organizations, including the American Hereford Association, the Kansas 
Livestock Association, the Boards of Directors of the National 
Cattlemen’s Association and Archer Daniels Midland. Roles in which he 
provided wisdom and insight, but mostly what he would have described as 
common sense. &nbsp;

And while much has changed in Kansas and the world during Jack 
Vanier’s time on this planet, his passing is not the end of an era. 
Jack’s legacy is with us today. You see it in Mary’s compassion for her 
community, in Marty’s brilliant smile and intellect, in the life lessons
 John learned from his father. In Jack’s grandchildren, you don’t have 
to look very far, to see a direct reflection of his light and love.&nbsp; &nbsp;

You see it in the promise of entire generations touched by Jack’s benevolence through scholarship, mentorship, and stewardship.

Jack lives on, in the thoughts and memories found uppermost in the 
minds and the warm feelings which lie deep in the hearts of all who 
encountered him. When we think of Jack Vanier, it is what comes 
naturally.

His contributions to agriculture, the livestock industry, to Kansas 
State University, and to all the organizations and people he touched, 
are many and significant. But it was by living his life the way he did 
that marks the profound contribution Jack Vanier made to our greater 
society, the rural culture and a way of life worth preserving, that will
 stand out.

Not because he wanted it to, but because he didn’t.

Preceded in death by his wife, Donna Lindsey Vanier, Jack is survived
 by sister Joyce Hale and brother Jerry Vanier of Kansas City, daughter 
Mary Vanier of Manhattan, daughter Dr. Marty Vanier of Manhattan and her
 stepchildren Katie (Kevin) Buehler, Kirsten (Nathan) Beemerand Kathy 
Krause, and son John K. Vanier II of Salina, his daughters Lauren Vanier
 and Sarah (Ryan) Geiger, John’s wife, Kim, and children Pallie(Bryan) 
Swartz, Landon Koehn, Jess Koehn, and Ty Koehn, Jake Mooney and Norah 
Mooney.

A funeral will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Christ 
Cathedral in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; The family suggests memorial gifts to any

John K. 'Jack' Vanier

Kenneth P. Marstall, age 83, &nbsp;Topeka, Kansas, passed away February 11, 2023, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

He was born December 20, 1939, in Wamego, KS, son of George H. and Nellie M. (Van Hole) Marstall.

Ken graduated from St. Marys High School and lived in Topeka, where 
he was employed for many years with Merchants National Bank and Bell 
Telephone Company before retirement. Ken was a member of Most Pure Heart
 of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka. He was a man of great Christian 
faith having visited Medjugorje twice and the Holy Land.

After retirement, Ken became involved with the Full Gospel Business 
Men’s Fellowship in America, Topeka Chapter, and was a Lifetime Member. 
He was also a member of the Point Man International Ministries of Kansas
 where he served as Treasurer for many years. Ken was a “Prayer Warrior”
 providing spiritual guidance as well as helping many others with their 
spiritual life and in times of need. Ken sang with the Happy Time 
Singers, visiting nursing homes and also serving as their Spiritual 
Leader.

He is survived by his brother, Lawrence E. “Larry” (Anita) Marstall, 
St. Marys, sister in-law, Roberta Marstall, Manhattan, &amp; many nieces
 &amp; nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George L., James J., Charles S., and Norman F.

Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, 
February 15, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. 
Marys. Inurnment was at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, St.

Kenneth P. Marstall

Nicholas Peter Gicas, 87, passed away the morning of Saturday, February 18, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI to Lambro and Peter Gicas and is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine of 51 years, his two sons Theodore and Anthony, his daughters-in-law, Lauren and Debbie, and two grandchildren Leo and Sienna.

A graduate of Marquette University's College of Journalism, Nick worked as a newspaper reporter for several years, first in Indiana with United Press International (UPI) where he reported on the Indy 500 and then for Roll Call in Washington, DC where he covered Congress, interviewing the likes of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson before they became Presidents.

Prior to his award-winning career, Nick enlisted in the US Army, attending basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and ultimately becoming the Public Information Officer at Fort Riley, KS due to his journalism background. Nick would spend the next 30 years in corporate public relations, composing speeches for chairmen and presidents as well as producing annual reports, most prominently for the New York Stock Exchange.

He was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Bucks in his native Wisconsin. Nick had a love for travel and and took full advantage during his career as a public relations executive for TWA Airlines; flying to numerous destinations spread across six continents, many trips of which he shared with Lorraine, who he first met purchasing a ticket from her at the Pan Am counter where she worked in midtown Manhattan in 1969. Just over a year after that chance encounter, they were married.

An avid film buff and reader, Nick has written a novel and instructed news writing at the New York University School of Continuing Education. He lived in New York City and raised his family in Scotch Plains before moving to Galloway in 2006 where he enjoyed retirement. A first-generation Greek-American, Nick was proud of his heritage and fluent in Greek.

Nick will be remembered for his passion for life, warm smile, sense of humor, a personality to match his height and the love for his family and friends who knew him best.

A celebration of life will be held in Nick's honor at a future date.

Marjorie May Chamberlin (Sautter)

Glen John Rubash, 69, of rural Geary County, Kansas, passed away on 
Thursday, February 16, 2023. Cremation will take place and celebration 
of life will be announced. He was born on November 21, 1953, to Victor and Leala (Kingsley) Rubash of Bethel, Minnesota. Glen
 was a distance runner at Saint Francis High School in Minnesota. He 
joined the United States Army in 1974 as a missile technician and 
armored equipment mechanic. Glen served in combat in Nicaragua and 
completed his enlistment at Fort Riley. He continued to serve in the 
Army Reserve and National Guard until the early 1990s.

After leaving the
 Army, he served his community as a professional firefighter for nearly 
30 years with the Junction City Fire Department, JCFD. Glen was also a 
volunteer with the Geary County Fire Department for more than 30 years 
and continued to serve until his passing. After his retirement from 
JCFD, he was employed at Milford Lake with the Kansas Department of 
Wildlife, before becoming a facilities technician at Kansas State 
University and again, retiring. As a hobby, Glen worked as a machinist 
in the physics department machine shop - completing projects for the 
physics labs, maintenance of facilities and the nuclear reactor. As
 an avid licensed amateur radio operator (KC0GPV), Glen served as an 
operator for the Military Auxiliary Radio System, MARS, as part of a 
national emergency response network and was a member of the Manhattan 
Area Amateur Radio Society. He had a lifelong appreciation of all types 
of music, from Wagner to Pink Floyd, and was known to have his music on 
full blast echoing down the creek. Glen enjoyed dabbling in experimental
 flight. Despite several crashes, beginning with a legendary set of 
mishaps involving his father's gyrocopter, he persisted and finally 
realized his dream of "sustained flight” with a recently acquired 
paraglider. Glen was known to all as a beekeeper, gardener, welder, 
tinkerer, and lover of animals. On November 24, 1978, Glen 
married Lindy Grant. They built a life (and their house) in the Flint 
Hills, along the banks of Humboldt Creek. They welcomed three sons and a
 series of mishaps would follow. Glen is survived by his two 
dogs, Winston (the rescued basset hound) and JoJo (a vet med beagle from
 K-State); his loving wife, Lindy; his three sons, Caleb (Anne) Rubash 
of rural Geary County, Kansas, Jonah (Julie) Rubash of southern 
California, David (Jessica) Rubash of Toronto, Canada; three 
grandchildren, Ivan, Victor, and Astrid; one brother, Lambert Rubash; 
two nephews, Todd Dock and Steven Kummer; five nieces, Tricia Turrittin,
 Susan Boline, Leslie Dock, Elan McMonigal, and Jennifer Flynn-Grant. 
Glen is also survived by his lifelong and best friend AJ (Sandy) Ondrey 
of Bethel, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Harriet Dock and Gail Farmer.

 </figure>Glen John Rubash, 69, of rural Geary County, Kansas, passed away on 
Thursday, February 16, 2023. Cremation will take place and celebration 
of life will be announced. He was born on November 21, 1953, to Victor and Leala (Kingsley) Rubash of Bethel, Minnesota. Glen
 was a distance runner at Saint Francis High School in Minnesota. He 
joined the United States Army in 1974 as a missile technician and 
armored equipment mechanic. Glen served in combat in Nicaragua and 
completed his enlistment at Fort Riley. He continued to serve in the 
Army Reserve and National Guard until the early 1990s. After leaving the
 Army, he served his community as a professional firefighter for nearly 
30 years with the Junction City Fire Department, JCFD. Glen was also a 
volunteer with the Geary County Fire Department for more than 30 years 
and continued to serve until his passing. After his retirement from 
JCFD, he was employed at Milford Lake with the Kansas Department of 
Wildlife, before becoming a facilities technician at Kansas State 
University and again, retiring. As a hobby, Glen worked as a machinist 
in the physics department machine shop - completing projects for the 
physics labs, maintenance of facilities and the nuclear reactor. As
 an avid licensed amateur radio operator (KC0GPV), Glen served as an 
operator for the Military Auxiliary Radio System, MARS, as part of a 
national emergency response network and was a member of the Manhattan 
Area Amateur Radio Society. He had a lifelong appreciation of all types 
of music, from Wagner to Pink Floyd, and was known to have his music on 
full blast echoing down the creek. Glen enjoyed dabbling in experimental
 flight. Despite several crashes, beginning with a legendary set of 
mishaps involving his father's gyrocopter, he persisted and finally 
realized his dream of "sustained flight” with a recently acquired 
paraglider. Glen was known to all as a beekeeper, gardener, welder, 
tinkerer, and lover of animals. On November 24, 1978, Glen 
married Lindy Grant. They built a life (and their house) in the Flint 
Hills, along the banks of Humboldt Creek. They welcomed three sons and a
 series of mishaps would follow. Glen is survived by his two 
dogs, Winston (the rescued basset hound) and JoJo (a vet med beagle from
 K-State); his loving wife, Lindy; his three sons, Caleb (Anne) Rubash 
of rural Geary County, Kansas, Jonah (Julie) Rubash of southern 
California, David (Jessica) Rubash of Toronto, Canada; three 
grandchildren, Ivan, Victor, and Astrid; one brother, Lambert Rubash; 
two nephews, Todd Dock and Steven Kummer; five nieces, Tricia Turrittin,
 Susan Boline, Leslie Dock, Elan McMonigal, and Jennifer Flynn-Grant. 
Glen is also survived by his lifelong and best friend AJ (Sandy) Ondrey 
of Bethel, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Harriet Dock and Gail Farmer.

Michael Nedzia, 77, of Junction City, passed away on February 17, 2023,
 surrounded by his loving family. A family memorial service is pending. Michael
 was born on December 24, 1945, in Pennsylvania. He graduated high

Arlene Lacy, 72, of Kansas City, Kansas, formerly of Junction City, 
Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at her home. A funeral

February 23, 2023, at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Arlene was born June 18, 1950, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the daughter of Emanuel and Thula (Brown) Roberts Sr. She

Lee Laster, Sr. She was also a stay at home mom where she raised her 
children and also took care of her brothers, sister and two nephews. She
 was a member at Second Missionary Baptist Church since 1993 where she

revivals, playing bingo and playing cards. Survivors include one
 son, Harold Daniel Lacy of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters, Thula Lene

Robert “Bob” J. Fetch, 68, Bismarck, N.D., passed away in a house fire on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. 

A service is pending for this April at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Robert was born on January 17, 1955, in Fort Riley/Junction City, 
Kansas, the son to Norman and Helen (Neibauer) Fetch. The family moved 
to Bismarck, where he was raised and educated attending Wilmore Grade 
School, Simle Middle School and graduated from Bismarck High School in 
1973. He enrolled at Bismarck Junior College where he attended until he 
entered the United States Air Force and served for two years in 
Missouri. He then returned to Bismarck and finished earning an 
Associates of Applied Science degree as an Electrical Technician. Bob 
worked for Bobcat for 21 years, leaving there in 2008 and then becoming a
 mail carrier, delivering first in Bismarck and then to rural areas, 
including Dawson, Steele and Sterling.

In 1999, he met Karyn Ohlhauser.&nbsp;They were married in 2005 and lived 
in Bismarck.&nbsp;Bob had a passion for cars and owned numerous cars 
throughout the years. As a senior in high school, he purchased a '55 
Chevy, which he redid on his own.&nbsp;He also brought a '69 Camaro into his 
collection and eventually he sold both of them to buy a '71 Corvette.&nbsp; 
Not only did he have a love for cars he could drive and fix, he enjoyed 
collecting and working on model cars also. Bob was an avid pool player 
and played in pool leagues throughout the years. He had a soft spot for 
animals and loved his cats.

He is survived by his wife, Karyn, Fargo; daughter, Lindsey Boushee, 
Bismarck; step-children, Mike (Billie Jo), Fargo, Dawn (Gunnar) Swanson,
 Rapid City, SD, Stephanie (Tony) Hopkins, Vergas, MN, and Michelle 
Kihlstrom, Bismarck; several step-grandchildren; siblings, Myron (Mary) 
Fetch, Bismarck, Victoria Carvell, Bismarck, Arlen (Sherry) Fetch, 
Mandan; and numerous and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a step-grandson, Michael.

Mark R. Biggs, 67 of Abilene passed away February 17, 2023. He was born January 2, 1956, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Ross and Maxine (White) Biggs. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1974 and went on to receive his bachelor's degree at K-State of Salina. 

On November 11, 2011, he was united in marriage to Jane Schenck in Abilene. Mark enlisted in the United States Air Force serving for nearly 13 years. He worked as an appraiser/realtor for Biggs Realty in Abilene. He was a member of the Abilene Faith Lutheran Church and enjoyed fishing and cooking. 

Mark is survived by his loving wife Jane of the home. His mother, Maxine Biggs of Abilene. Two sons: Mark Ross Biggs of Abilene and Austin Rodger Biggs and wife Shannon of Salina. Two grandchildren: Caelyn Biggs and Caedyn Biggs. Two Brothers: Gregg Biggs and wife Sue of Enterprise and Bob Biggs of Abilene and one sister Jodi Brinkman and husband John of Olpe, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his father, Ross Biggs. 

The family has chosen cremation. Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the Abilene Faith Lutheran Church. Kathleen Ann "Kay" Ball Hamilton, 91, Overland Park, formerly of
 Manhattan, passed away Friday, February 17, 2023, at Colonial Village, 
Overland Park, KS.

Kathleen was born in McPherson, KS 
on September 23, 1931, the daughter of the late Henrietta Lucille (Witt)
 and John Anthony Wahl. She graduated from Alma High School, Alma, KS in
 the class of 1949. Kathleen and Robert E. Ball were married on October 
1, 1949, in Alma, KS. They were happily married for 43 years and raised 
two daughters in Manhattan. Robert passed away on November 28, 1992. 
Kathleen was married to her second husband, Clinton B. Hamilton, on May 
22, 2004, in Manhattan KS, and he passed away on February 28, 2007, in 
Manhattan. Kathleen and Clint traveled to many areas, but their main 
enjoyment was dancing. She was a former member of the Seven Dolors 
Catholic Church in Manhattan.

Kathleen is survived by 
two daughters, Teresa Ann (Archie) Cloud, of Kit Carson, Colorado; Mary 
Kathryn (Dick) Eiserer, of Olathe, KS. She is also survived by five 
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by
 her parents, her husband Robert Ball and husband Clinton Hamilton, and 
two brothers, John R. Wahl and William L. Wahl.

A 
private graveside service will be held at Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan,
 KS.

Kathleen Ann 'Kay' Ball Hamilton

Lloyd Miller was born at 4:20 a.m., March 31, 1926, in Bethel 
Deaconess Hospital, Newton, Kansas.&nbsp; He died February 14, 2023, in 
Wichita, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023, from 1:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Frank Funeral Home in Wellington, Kansas.

Graveside Services will be held on February 21, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Murl &amp; Lucile Miller, a 
son Lloyd Miller Jr., his sisters Virginia Hulpieu and Beverly Hiebert,
 his brother Kenneth Miller and his wife of the home, Donna Miller.

He is survived by 3 nieces, Gynia Crane, Marva Hiebert &amp; Lori 
Seron and 6 nephews, Mitchell Miller, Roger Miller, Russell Miller, 
Gordon Hulpieu, Quinton Hiebert &amp; Jay Hiebert.

He started playing the piano at age 5, played in church at age 7 and 
was the church pianist at age 12.&nbsp; At age 17, he played in a piano 
audition with 20 pieces and was given a grade of 1+.

This was interrupted by World War II.&nbsp; He took basic training in 
Field Artillery at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.&nbsp; Going overseas, he passed New 
Guinea, the Solomon Islands and landed on Luzon, Philippines.&nbsp; He was in
 the service for a total of 25 months, spending 18 months overseas.

After his return home, he completed a Bachelor of Music and Piano 
Performance at Washburn Municipal University in Topeka, Kansas.&nbsp; He 
received two honors there being inducted into the Pi Gamma Mu (Social Sciences) and the Mu Alpha Pi
 (Music).&nbsp; He later earned a Bachelor of Music Education at the 
University of Wichita and then a Master of Music Education at 
Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

He began teaching music at Zenda and Hazelton, Kansas, then 
instrumental music at Borger, Texas and Arkansas City, Kansas.&nbsp; After 
additional schooling for administration, he was a principal at Nashville
 and Zenda, Kansas.&nbsp; He coached girls sports in both Denison and 
Burnette, Kansas.

During this time, he received a seminary degree from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois.

After retirement, he got involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars 
organization.&nbsp; He served as a commander of the Newton and Wellington 
posts, as quartermaster for Newton and Wellington posts and as a 
chaplain for both Wellington and Wichita.&nbsp; He also served as a chaplain 
in the fifth district and was Kansas state chaplain for 8 years during 
which time he dedicated all four state veteran cemeteries at Dodge City,
 WaKeeney, Winfield and Manhattan.&nbsp; Lloyd also served as the Western 
Conference chaplain for 2 years and he and his wife Donna both 
volunteered at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield for a total of 20 
years.

A memorial has been established with the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas in lieu of flowers.

received two honors there being inducted into the Pi Gamma Mu (Social Sciences) and the Mu Alpha Pi
 (Music).&nbsp; He later earned a Bachelor of Music Education at the 
University of Wichita and then a Master of Music Education at 
Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.He began teaching music at Zenda and Hazelton, Kansas, then 
instrumental music at Borger, Texas and Arkansas City, Kansas.&nbsp; After 
additional schooling for administration, he was a principal at Nashville
 and Zenda, Kansas.&nbsp; He coached girls sports in both Denison and 
Burnette, Kansas.During this time, he received a seminary degree from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois.After retirement, he got involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars 
organization.&nbsp; He served as a commander of the Newton and Wellington 
posts, as quartermaster for Newton and Wellington posts and as a 
chaplain for both Wellington and Wichita.&nbsp; He also served as a chaplain 
in the fifth district and was Kansas state chaplain for 8 years during 
which time he dedicated all four state veteran cemeteries at Dodge City,
 WaKeeney, Winfield and Manhattan.&nbsp; Lloyd also served as the Western 
Conference chaplain for 2 years and he and his wife Donna both 
volunteered at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield for a total of 20

Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Montgomery, 64, was 
born on Friday, February 13, 1959, at Resurrection Hospital in Chicago, 
Illinois, to Bonny (Brown) Shay and Richard Shay. She lost her battle 
with cancer on February 16, 2023. She is survived by 2 sons, Christopher
 Shay of Austin, Texas, and Ryan Montgomery of Manhattan, Kansas. 3 
grandsons, Ethan Montgomery of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Liam Shay of 
Chicago, Illinois, and Elliot Montgomery of Manhattan, Kansas. And, her 
life partner Craig Bethke of Appleton, Wisconsin, and his family (Warren 
Bethke of Appleton, Wisconsin, and William and Ashley Bethke of Wausau,&nbsp; Wisconsin)

Kathy spent her childhood living on the North side of Chicago. She 
attended Catholic schools until the family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. 
She graduated from Chaparral High School in 1977. She was active in High
 School sports (Volley Ball and softball) and was a cheerleader.

Soon after High School, she married Gary Montgomery who was in the 
Air Force. The Air Force necessitated many moves from bases in Nevada, 
Utah, Georgia and Alaska. The family retired to Manhattan Kansas. Kathy 
had many jobs through her life. Gas station attendant, car rental, 
casinos, child care, restaurants and retail at ZCMI, Lane Bryant, 
American Eagle, Walmart and lastly at Walgreens. Her work opening and 
managing stores for American Eagle led to her coming to Appleton 
Wisconsin in 2000 to manage the store in the Fox River Mall.

After 30 years, the marriage to Gary ended, she remained in the 
Appleton area. She met Craig in September of 2013. They found great 
happiness together. She made their house a home and was his partner in 
every way possible. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, travel, sports, 
being on the water (boating, rafting and canoeing), watching old movies 
and Christmas. They had many wonderful adventures together. Her cancer 
was diagnosed&nbsp; February of 2021. After some success, the disease took 
her February 16, 2023. She had many thanks and appreciation for the care
 she was giving by her primary doctor, Oncology doctors, nurses and 
staff at Aurora Bay Care Hospital, Aurora Palliative Care, Lombardi

Paul Ryan “L.P.” Beliel, age 37, of Junction City, Kansas, formerly of 
Washington, Iowa, died Monday, February 6, 2023, in Junction City, 
Kansas. Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m.
 Thursday, March 2, 2023, at the United Presbyterian Church in 
Washington with Chaplain Bo Waldo officiating. The family will be 
present to receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. 
Interment with military honors will take place at the Pleasant Hill 
Christian Church Cemetery in rural Washington. Memorials have been 
established for an Education Fund for Paul’s daughters. Online

 Paul was born June 23, 1985, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Paul V. and
 Karla Jo (Farrier) Beliel. He grew up most of his life in the

2003. After graduating early, he tried his hand at becoming a cowboy in 
Utah with his great uncle Chewy. When that did not work out as he 
planned, Paul returned to Iowa where he enlisted in the army at 19 years
 old. He completed his basic training at Fort Benning then went straight
 into airborne school. His first duty station was at Fort Bragg, NC. 
During his airborne school graduation, he told his mother that he was 
going to be a “black hat” or Airborne Instructor one day. He fulfilled 
this goal while at Fort Benning, a job he very much enjoyed. He 
especially enjoyed mentoring and encouraging younger soldiers. LP served
 multiple tours of duty including Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation 
Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He has served many roles across his 
18-year career in the military. In 2009, he met his wife, Amy,
 at a mutual friend’s wedding. It wasn’t until 6 months later they 
reconnected again on New Year’s Eve and their relationship started, at 
first long distance until she joined him in North Carolina. They married
 on New Year’s Eve in 2012 while living in North Carolina. Soon after 
they moved to Alaska, where Paul was stationed at JBER in Anchorage. 
There they had their first daughter Baleigh in September 2014. After three&nbsp; years in Alaska, Paul was stationed to Fort Benning in Georgia for a few
 years where he and Amy had their second daughter, Adeline (Addie) in 
October of 2017. They missed the endless outdoor beauty and activities 
in Alaska so moved back there to enjoy it with the girls. They most 
recently moved to Junction City, Kansas to be closer to family and Paul 
planned to finish his last two years of service then retire from his 
military career. Paul was a self-proclaimed country boy who 
loved Dwight Yoakam and everything outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, 
fishing, camping, kayaking, and hiking. He was an avid gun collector and
 builder. He spent a lot of time working on many different projects 
including beautiful wood furniture and unique welding pieces using rebar
 and horseshoes. He enjoyed playing with his girls and involving them in
 whatever project he was working on. In between assignment locations, he
 and Amy would often take several days to enjoy the drive from one place
 to the next, exploring and camping along the way. Paul is 
survived by his wife, Amy Beliel of Junction City, Kansas; two 
daughters, Baleigh Beliel (8) and Adeline “Addie” Beliel (5); mother, 
Karla Beliel of Marshall Islands; father, Paul V. Beliel and friend

Richard M. Chambers, 62, of Chapman, passed away on February 12, 2023, at Abilene Memorial Hospital. Cremation has occurred and a celebration of life will take place in Arizona at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org). Rich was born on March 26, 1960, to Fred and Thelma Chambers (Stuart) in Phoenix, Arizona. He had eleven siblings where they shared memories of hunting and fishing in Arizona. He graduated high school in 1978 and went on to trade school for the sheet metal union, Local #359. He worked in the trade for twenty-five years. Rich and Chris married in 1986, in Arizona where they made their home. In 2014, they relocated to Kansas. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends in the outdoors, playing board games/cards, and was an avid reader. He is survived by his wife, Chris; four children, Sarah, RJ, Joshua, and Staci; three grandchildren, Justin, Ethan, and Tatum; ten siblings, a mother-in-law and a brother-in-law. He is preceded by his parents, a sister, and a sister-in-law.

Jason Anthony Avila, age 46, was born in Hanford, California, on July 13th, 1976. He left this earth a sadder place on January 28th, 2023.

Jason attended schools in Hanford, Flagstaff and Modesto California until he moved to Manhattan, Kansas, at the age of 9. He graduated from Manhattan High School in 1995. After high school, he returned to California and attended Cuesta Community College in San Luis Obispo. He moved to Fresno California and obtained a degree in computer technology and worked with a company that was installing cell phone towers in California and Nevada.

When he passed away, he was working for Contemporary Services Corporation, which allowed him to work professional and college sports as well as concerts in various cities. His last trip out of town was to work the Rose Bowl in January.

He loved his family, his friends, the SF Giants and Kansas State University. Hard to say which would be his number one love! Jason was preceded in death by his father, Gene Avila. He is survived by his mother and step father Nancy and Jim Parker of Manhattan, Kansas, his brother Patrick (LaVonn) of Central City, Nebraska, his sister Michelle and brother Tim (Janan) of Visalia, California as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a huge and loving group of friends in Fresno. All will carry his memory with them. He will not be forgotten!

Private celebrations of life will be held in Fresno and Manhattan with burial in Minneapolis, Kansas, next to his beloved Grandfather.

George was born in Fargo, ND October 18, 1922. Was graduated from North Dakota State High School. 
Enlisted in the Army during World War II. Served in the 104th 
Timberwolf Infantry Division and saw combat in France, Holland, and 
Germany. Was promoted to Artillery First Lieutenant in the Korean War 
where he trained troops in Japan. Awarded the Bronze Star and three 
unit citations. 
After completing his journalism studies at the University of Missouri, 
he worked in marketing for the Junction City Daily Union, the 
Omaha World Herald, WOW Radio &amp; TV in Omaha, Des Moines Register 
&amp; Tribune, Business &amp; Industry Magazine in Des Moines, Iowa 
Power &amp; Light Company, and the Home Builders Association of Greater 
Des Moines. 
He took pride in being a 32nd degree Mason, a Za-Ga-Zig Shriner, an 
AHEPA, and a member of the Kiwanis Club and Toastmasters International. 
Hunting, target shooting, golf, reading, and writing were his joys. 
George was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Betsy Mirras; 
sister, Margaret Neff; and niece, Sandra Loughlin. He leaves his 
brother, Colonel Pete Mirras of McLean, VA; grand nephews, Aaron and 
Andrew Loughlin of Kansas City, MO; Tom and Ladonna Gratias of Clive, 
his close-like family-friends. 
A memorial visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Monday, February 20, at
 Iles Westover Chapel, with a Trisagion Service at 7. A graveside 
service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
 A celebration luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, February 23 at
 St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

Hunting, target shooting, golf, reading, and writing were his joys. 
George was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Betsy Mirras; 
sister, Margaret Neff; and niece, Sandra Loughlin. He leaves his 
brother, Colonel Pete Mirras of McLean, VA; grand nephews, Aaron and 
Andrew Loughlin of Kansas City, MO; Tom and Ladonna Gratias of Clive, 
his close-like family-friends. 
A memorial visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Monday, February 20, at
 Iles Westover Chapel, with a Trisagion Service at 7. A graveside 
service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
 A celebration luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, February 23 at
 St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

Floyd E. "Gene" Nelson, 88, of Salina, Kansas, passed away February 15th, 2023.

Gene was born in Clay County, Kansas, on September 8th, 1934, the son of Floyd E. Nelson and Rose M. (Hicks) Nelson.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Naomi (Walker) Nelson.

Survivors
 include 3 daughters, Peggy Jean Hughes (Pat), of Stillwater, Oklahoma, 
Francee Cox (Doug Ochs), of Minneapolis, Kansas, Paula Tomlins (Byron), 
of Topeka, Kansas; son, John Hiebsch (Wendy) of Wichita, Kansas; 8 
grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sisters, Karen Wells (Dan Francke), and Sharon Babst (Larry).

Jerry A. Bradley, 83, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. He was born on June 9, 1939, in Culpepper Township, Arkansas, to Jesse and Eunice (Lockhart) Bradley. Following his education, he entered the United States Army in August of 1956, at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Joining the ranks as a military policeman, he served at Fort Banks, Massachusetts, until his departure for Germany in 1958. His first two years in Europe were served in Munich, Germany, with the 508th Military Police Battalion. From 1960 to 1962, he served in Wildflecken, Germany, with the 3rd Armored Rifle Battalion. CSM (RET) Bradley served two honorable tours of duty in Vietnam as a platoon sergeant; first with the 5th Battalion 2nd Air Defense Artillery (attached to the 3rd BDE 1st Infantry Division) from 1968 to 1969, and then with the 101st Airborne Division from 1971 to 1972. In 1977, he became First Sergeant of VULCAN Battery of the 1st Battalion, 59th Air Defense Artillery, 8th Infantry Division, in Mainz, Germany. A year later, he was promoted to Sergeant Major and was the Chief Operations Sergeant Major of the 10th Air Defense Artillery Group (HAWK Missile), 32nd Air Defense Artillery Command, in Darmstadt, Germany. CSM (RET) Bradley attended several first sergeant schools and graduated from the Sergeants Major Academy in 1976. From 1981 to 1983, Bradley served as the Command Sergeant Major of the Devil Brigade of the "Big Red One" Division at Fort Riley. In February 1983, he assumed the position of Command Sergeant Major, Fifth U.S. Army in Fort Sam Houston. In September 1984, he was assigned duty as Command Sergeant Major, 1st Infantry Division (M). His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and numerous foreign decorations. On September 20, 1960, he married Rethie (Middleton) Bradley, in Lilbourn , Missouri. Together they raised three children, two sons and one daughter. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Rethie; his children, Lori Bradley of Greenville, South Carolina, Jon (Mary) Bradley of San Antonio, Texas, Todd (Tamara) Bradley of Aloha, Oregon; ten grandchildren, Jen, Chris, Jon, Brendan, Sidona, Molly, Jackson, Julia, Hannah, McKenzie; five great grandchildren, Noah, Gwen, Coraline, Paxton, Huxley; two sisters, Claudia and Connie; and three brothers, Junior, Steve, and Bruce. Kent Dick, age 61, of Manhattan, died February 10, 2023 in Harris, Missouri.

Kent
 Allen Dick was born on September 20th, 1961, to Larry and Joyce 
(Mitchell) Dick in Mount Ridge, KS. He was brought up in a large loving 
family with his sisters Kim, Kelly, brothers Keith, Kevin and many 
cousins in Buhler, KS. He grew up hunting, fishing, helping on the farm,
 bailing hay, attending the Mennonite church, and causing mayhem. He 
graduated from Buhler High School in 1979. He then attended Hutchinson 
Junior College where he received his Associates Degree. Following his 
passion of learning and science he continued his education at Kansas 
State University where he earned his Bachelors and later his Master’s in
 Education.

He stayed in Manhattan after college and 
began his 35-year teaching career with the USD 383 School District. He 
was a teacher at Manhattan High School and then later Anthony Middle 
School where he taught biology, physical science and chemistry to 
thousands of students over several decades. He also taught a summer 
Field Biology course, where he would teach the ecology of the Flint 
Hills and would take the group camping to the Colorado Mountains. He was
 part of countless other opportunities to be involved in student 
academics. He loved teaching because he can share his passion for 
science, bad jokes, and corny T-shirts. He was inspired daily by his 
fellow teachers and students to strive to be the best educator he could.

One
 of his true joys of life was coaching, whatever sport he could. He 
coached for 27 years including football, girls and boys basketball, and 
track and field. He would spend countless hours watching games, studying
 plays, and conjuring strategies for his teams success. He believed 
sports was a great opportunity to help kids develop skills and life 
lessons. To show support to Manhattan’s teams he volunteered as part of 
the MHS chain gang and also became bus driver certified to drive the 
teams to and from games. He also coached his daughters’ Parks and 
Recreation teams with some of his closest friends.

In 
1994, he married Resa Price, in their union they had two children: 
Kenzie and Natalie. He saw being a dad as one of the greatest 
opportunities he was given by God. He took his children on many summer 
road trips, camping, daddy-daughter dates, and spending anytime he could
 with his kids. He showed his love for his parents by going on trips 
with his dad and always being there to take care of them. He valued the 
relationship to his friends from college (the Goomers) as though they 
were his family and loved getting together at any opportunity for 
fishing, hunting, and story-telling. He showed his unconditional love to
 his whole family and was always there to lend a helping hand, a back to
 lean on, or a shoulder to cry on to anyone who needed it.

He
 was raised and baptized in the Mennonite Church. He was heavily 
involved at Manhattan Mennonite Church. He acted as an Elder, Sunday 
school teacher, mentor, and friend. He volunteered as much of his time 
as he could serving the church and his greater Mennonite community. His 
faith was an integral part of his life, honoring the Mennonite and 
Christian values through every action and relationship he had.

He was preceded in death his mother Joyce (Mitchell) Dick, sisters Kelly Dick, Kim (Tipton) Dick, and brother Kevin Dick.

He
 is survived by his father Larry Dick, wife Resa Price, daughters Kenzie
 Dick, Natalie and Logan Dick-deGraffenried, brother Keith and Jeanette 
Dick, nieces Katherine Dick, Adriane Dick, and Chanell Tipton.

A
 lover of motorcycles, football, the outdoors, and a life-time learner. 
An adamant opposer of onions, traffic and crows. A man who lived his 
life fully and lived by the words “If they don’t find you handsome, they
 should at least find you handy.” Kent Dick made an impact in the 
classroom, on the field, at home, and in his community. We will miss you
 deeply but your legacy will live on in us all.

 services for Kent will be held at 2:00p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023,&nbsp; at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Avenue in Manhattan.
