Mary Patricia (Bushey) Johannes, 84, of Manhattan, KS, passed away on
 Friday, April 7, 2023, at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community.

Pat, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was 
born on December 15, 1938, in Topeka, Kansas, to the late Henry P. and 
Pauline J. (Burlie) Bushey.

Pat grew up in St. Marys, KS where she attended grade school and high
 school.&nbsp; She met her future husband, John Raymond Johannes, while she 
was attending Marymount College in Salina.

Pat and John were joined in marriage at the Immaculate Conception 
Catholic Church in St. Marys, KS, on June 7, 1958. They had their family
 in Salina, KS, and were transferred to Delphos, Lyons, Hutchinson, 
Abilene, and Manhattan during John’s career with KP&amp;L.

Pat earned her Bachelor’s degree in Art from Marymount College.&nbsp; She 
was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan. Her devotion 
to her faith was matched only by her devotion to her family. Pat loved 
her family more than anything and always enjoyed when they got together,
 especially at Christmas. She and her husband, John, also enjoyed 
fishing and hunting together.

Holding her in loving memory are her children, Sherry McKee (Westin),
 Salina, Tracey Evans (Link), The Woodlands, TX, Greg Johannes 
(Jennifer), Onaga, and Cristy Donnelly (Thad), Wamego; 19 grandchildren;
 13 great-grandchildren (plus one more on the way); and sister, Jane 
Ernst, (Wayne), Boise, Idaho. Mary Pat was preceded in death by her 
parents, and her loving husband of nearly 64 years, John, on March 21, 
2022. She will be deeply missed and always loved.

The family will receive friends from 9:00-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, 
April 15, 2023, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in 
Salina.&nbsp; A rosary service will start at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of 
Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Kevin Weber officiating.&nbsp; 
Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery followed by a luncheon at 
St. Mary’s Parish Hall.

Her family is deeply grateful for the care she received from the 
staff at the Wroten House at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Center.

Reta B. Knitter, 85, of Clay Center died on Monday, April 3, 2023, at 
the Stormont-Vail Health Flint Hills Campus in Junction City, Kansas.&nbsp; 
She was born on February 5, 1938, the daughter of Joseph and Verda 
(Nemnich) Trudell, in Morganville, Kansas.

Reta grew up in Morganville, graduating from Morganville High School 
in 1956.&nbsp; On June 2, 1957, she married Ross Knitter and he preceded her 
in death on March 30, 2007.&nbsp; Reta worked as a secretary for E.E. Cyr in 
Morganville.&nbsp; She then worked for USD 379 as a secretary for the 
Wakefield Schools before moving to the USD 379 Board office, where she 
was a secretary for 42 years.&nbsp; Reta had tremendous strength and fought 
hard, even up to the day of her passing.&nbsp; 

She was a member of the Clay 
Center United Methodist Church, Clay Center Country Club and the Bridge 
Club.&nbsp; Reta is also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Joan 
Germann.

She is survived by her son, Kevin and his wife, Carol Knitter of 
Tucson, Arizona; daughter: Karmen Holt of Junction City, Kansas; 5 
grandchildren, Joseph (Lauren) Knitter, Crystal (Aaron) Barnes, Wendi 
Holt, Jacob (Maggie) Knitter and John (Naomi) Knitter and 7 great 
grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 10:30AM at the Clay Center United Methodist Church.

Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 4-7PM at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center, Kansas.

Jo Hana "Jody" Knerr, 73, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, April 4th, 2023.

Jody was born in Salina, Kansas, on September 26, 1949, a daughter of Peggy Gean (Herman) and Joseph Henry Duay.

Survivors
 include three daughters, Carla Funk, (Alan) of Culver, Kansas, Leasa 
Mayhugh (David), of Salina, Kansas, Cindy Mayhugh (Greg), of Delphos, 
Kansas; two sons, Curtiss Mayhugh, of Salina, Kansas, Joseph Knerr, of 
Olathe, Kansas; 12 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.

Jody is also survived by 1 sister; 2 brothers; and ex-husband, Kenneth Knerr.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Jerry Utley.

Graveside
 services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 27th, 2023, at Gypsum Hill 
Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Friendship Center, 
746 Commanche Ave, Salina.

Jo Hana 'Jody' Knerr

Delena E. "Dee" Houser, 80 died April 5, 2023, at Village Manor Nursing Home in Abilene. She was born June 20, 1942, in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of Della L. Putnam and Vinnal W. Putnam. 

On August 1, 1958, she married James (Jim) Houser and lived a couple of years in Abilene, the moved to Solomon and lived the rest of their life in the Solomon community. 

She enjoyed camping, yard work, decorating for holidays, and working on their house. She started out doing waitress work at Union 76 Truck Stop, Tony’s Pizza and Deli work at West Country Mart in Abilene. She put in over 10 ½ years at each job. 

She is survived by 2 sons, Kenneth Houser and Gilbert Houser, both of Salina, KS. Two daughters – Julie Houser South Sioux City, NE and Amy Madacs of Abilene, KS. Two brothers, Harry Putnam of Bennington, KS and Merlin Putnam of Chicpoee, Massachusetts. One sister, Lorene Putnam of Solomon KS and 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son, Bobby Houser, one sister Betty Vaughn and one brother Jackie Putnam.

Delena E. 'Dee' Houser

Jane Ann (Stratton) Runyan, age 88, of Grinnell, Iowa, died Monday 
evening, October 10, 2022, at Meadowlark Hills, in Manhattan, Kansas,&nbsp; with her family by her bedside.

Jane was raised and 
grew up on a farm in Maxwell, Iowa, where she met her lifelong friends 
Roberta and Paul Viers. She attended K-12 in Maxwell, graduating from 
Maxwell High School in 1952. After graduating from High School, Jane 
attended the Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in Cedar Falls. Following
 her sophomore year Jane met and married John Avery Runyan from Collins,
 Iowa, on October 2, 1954.

Jane worked for WHO-Radio/TV 
to support her husband through college at Drake University. She 
dedicated herself to raising her young family, while supporting her 
husband as his career was being established. Together they moved 
multiple times beginning in Des Moines, Iowa, (1955), Gary/Valparaiso, IN
 (1956 to 1963), Pittsburgh, PA (1964 to 1967), Detroit, MI (1968 to 
1969), Anniston, AL (1969 to 1972), Morgantown, WV (1972 to 1974), 
Montreal Quebec, (1974 to 1976), and then finally settling in Grinnell, 
Iowa, (1976).

Jane is survived by her six children: 
Rhonda Hudson, Grinnell, Iowa; Robin Runyan (Carol), Pennsauken, New 
Jersey; Ryan Runyan (Sharon), Manhattan, KS; Roberta Moore (Scott) 
Dallas, Georgia; Paul Runyan (Kathy) Webster City, Iowa; and Rachele 
Pang (Davin), Gilbert, Arizona. Jane’s youngest sister, Mary Lou Dahms, 
of Traer, Iowa; her 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death 
by her parents, her best friend Roberta Viers, son in law Marc Hudson, 
her brother Paul, sister Lois Seebach and brother-in-laws, Loren Seebach
 and Richard ‘Dick’ Dahms, and her granddaughter, Metta Runyan.

Jane
 worked for GTE in Grinnell, Iowa for over 19 years and retiring from 
the company in 1990. Following her retirement from GTE, Jane spent the 
next 20 years as a Sorority/Fraternity house mom at Kansas State 
University, Iowa State University - University of Iowa and Arizona 
State. During her summer breaks, she enjoyed traveling to visit her 
children. She loved the young students she served as a “House Mother,” 
which also allowed her to live close to her children and grandchildren. 
 Jane loved her grandchildren and took great pride planning tea parties 
for them, playing Pinochle, singing family songs she would write herself
 and dressing up in costumes for Halloween.

In 1996, 
Jane along with her best friend, Roberta Viers and daughter Roberta were
 security volunteers for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia 
and was adopted by many of the USA Basketball players. We can’t stress 
this enough — Jane’s passion in life was her family and the love of her 
life were her 6 children, her 17 grandchildren and 15 great 
grandchildren. Jane was a believer in Jesus Christ and was baptized in 
the United Methodist Church denomination.

A
 visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, at the 
Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (422 First Street) in Maxwell. A memorial 
service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Maxwell United 
Methodist Church (109 Maxwell Street) in Maxwell with Pastor Jerry 
Swanberg officiating.

Jane Ann (Stratton) Runyan

L.E. Madison Jr., age 60, of Manhattan, died March 30, 2023, in Kansas City.

L.E.
 was born on July 15, 1962, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of L.E. Madison 
Sr. and Queen Esther Madison.  L.E. grew up in Manhattan and graduated 
with the Manhattan High School class of 1980.

During 
his high school years, L.E. was a great athlete and excelled at playing 
football for Manhattan High.  After graduating, he then played football 
at Kansas State.  He was a four-year letter winner at K-State.  He then 
played in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

L.E. enjoyed helping others as he could and enjoyed being in his yard and keeping it clean.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1997 and his mother in 2000.

L.E.
 is survived by his brothers Isaac and LaMont both of Manhattan.  He 
will be missed by his friends and classmates of Manhattan High class of 
1980.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00a.m. Friday April 7, 2023, at the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

L.E. Madison Jr.

Helen L. Wheeler, 91, of Louisville, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Wamego Health Center.

Born July 22, 1931, in White City, Kansas, Helen was the daughter of 
Ephriam and Gladys Jane (Hebrew) Blankley.&nbsp; She married Clyde LaVere 
Wheeler on January 4, 1950, at Fort Riley, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in 
death on November 2, 2009.

Helen had attended Louisville Methodist Church.&nbsp; She was an avid 
reader and enjoyed tending to her flower garden, crocheting and plastic 
canvas projects.&nbsp; She and Clyde enjoyed traveling throughout the United 
States.&nbsp; Helen never met a stranger and loved every baby she saw.&nbsp; She 
was devoted to her family and especially loved the time she spent with 
her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She had previously been employed at the Kreem Kup, Wamego Floral 
Greenhouse and Gurdan Industries where she was an electrician.&nbsp; She 
retired after many years as a sales clerk for Vanderbuilt’s in Wamego.

Survivors include four children, Marla Hieger of Wamego, Duane

Ephriam and Gladys Jane (Hebrew) Blankley.&nbsp; She married Clyde LaVere 
Wheeler on January 4, 1950, at Fort Riley, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in 
death on November 2, 2009.Helen had attended Louisville Methodist Church.&nbsp; She was an avid 
reader and enjoyed tending to her flower garden, crocheting and plastic 
canvas projects.&nbsp; She and Clyde enjoyed traveling throughout the United 
States.&nbsp; Helen never met a stranger and loved every baby she saw.&nbsp; She 
was devoted to her family and especially loved the time she spent with 
her grandchildren and great grandchildren.She had previously been employed at the Kreem Kup, Wamego Floral 
Greenhouse and Gurdan Industries where she was an electrician.&nbsp; She 
retired after many years as a sales clerk for Vanderbuilt’s in Wamego.Survivors include four children, Marla Hieger of Wamego, Duane

Helen L. Wheeler

Lorena Lee Wilcox, age 66, of Blue Rapids, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the Frankfort Community Care Home.

She
 was born on November 23, 1956, in Marysville, the daughter of Robert 
Gene and Garnet Sharleen (Singleton) Wilcox.&nbsp; She graduated from Valley 
Heights High School.

She married Rankin Swearingen and they later divorced.

Lorena
 was a nurse’s aide at the Blue Valley Nursing Home for many years and 
also waitressed for a while at some local restaurants.&nbsp; She enjoyed 
gardening, canning, cooking, baking, watching old western movies, going 
to casinos and later online casinos.&nbsp; Most of all, she loved spending 
time with her grandchildren.

She
 is survived by two daughters, Amber Swearingen of Blue Rapids and 
Jackie Swearingen of Wymore, Nebraska; one son, Shane Shanek of Belvue; 
four brothers, Bryon Wilcox, Bob (Cathy) Wilcox, Jon (Deb Long) Wilcox 
and Randy Wilcox; two sisters, Vicki (Scott Mahin) Morgan and Rene (Ken)
 Smith; seven grandchildren, Zoe, Rylee, Ashlynne, Blaise, Skylar, Ryker
 and Maverick; her step-father, Tim Davis and numerous nieces and 
nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Wilcox and Garnet Davis and one brother, William “Bill” Wilcox.

Lorena Lee Wilcox

Robin Lynn (Nicewander) Macy was born November 6, 1958, in Clay 
Center, Kansas, the second of two children born to Ralph Nicewander and 
Leola Stites Nicewander. She died on April 4, 2023.

She attended Clay Center schools, graduating from Clay Center 
Community High School in 1977. During high school, Robin started working
 at age 14 as a waitress at The Jiffy Inn in Clay Center, then worked in
 various jobs as a retail salesclerk. In later years she worked in 
office jobs.

Robin was married to John Macy of Augusta, Kansas on November 27, 
1982, at the Clay Center Wesleyan Church. They briefly lived in rural 
Augusta for about 18 months, then moved to the farm that John had 
purchased before their marriage in rural Miltonvale, KS where they had 
made their home for the past 39 years.

John and Robin were blessed with two children: Nicole Eilene in 1984 and Nathaniel Wesley in 1988.

Robin devoted her life to her home and family. She was a meticulous 
keeper of the home. She had a strong artistic bent, both in and around 
the house with the seasonal decorating and landscaping. She was a quiet 
extrovert who enjoyed being around people. Throughout her illness, she 
saw the medical care givers, particularly at the Tammy Walker Cancer, as
 well as other patients, as her ministry.

She saw this as her opportunity to impact others with the love of 
Christ, seeing this as part of God's sovereign design in her own battle 
with cancer.

She was a devoted member of the Concordia Wesleyan Church.

Robin was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Nicewander.

She is survived by her husband, John Macy of Miltonvale, Kansas; 
daughter, Nicole Macy of Balynure County Antrim, Northern Ireland; son, 
Nathaniel of Center, Kansas; grandson, Elijah; granddaughter, Audra; 
mother, Leola Nicewander of Clay Center, Kansas; brother, Edward 
Nicewander of Hutchinson, Kansas, and lifelong dear friend, Vickie 
Coover, of Barnard, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023, from 4-7 PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center, KS.

Funeral Services for Robin will be on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Concordia Wesleyan Church in Concordia, KS.

Jeffery Dean Fellers, 54, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023, at his home in Emporia.

He was born December 31, 1968, in Emporia, Kansas the son of Glenn Dale and  Ellen M. Korbe Fellers. Jeff attended Waverly High School and graduated with the Class of 1987.

Jeff
 worked at Dream Homes in Lebo in the years following graduation. In 
1991, Jeff took a  position as an electrician with Local Union #226 
I.B.E.W.  This is a job that he loved and he remained engaged in until 
2017.

He will live on in the hearts and memories of his sisters, JoAnn Fellers of Emporia,

Janice
 Aucoin of Lebo and Jeanne Bergstrom of  Lebo; a brother, Jerry Fellers 
and his wife  Jennifer of Shawnee, Kansas; numerous extended family and a
 community of dear  friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a 
brother, James D. Fellers and a niece, Jennifer Bergstrom.

Jeff
 lived life to the fullest and he faced death with courage and dignity. 
 He was a shining light and encouragement to others while being 
excepting of his own circumstances.

Jeff's wishes were 
to be buried on the family lot with his parents and brother, James at

 was born on May 16, 1984, in McPherson, KS, the son of James Randal and
 Helen Ludwena (Gruenbacher) Sisson.&nbsp; He graduated from Spearville High 
School in 2003 and attended Hutchinson Community College on a track 
scholarship.&nbsp; He then enlisted in the Navy Seabees and served his 
country for seven years.&nbsp; Kyle was currently enrolled as a fulltime 
student at McPherson College.&nbsp;

Survivors include: his three 
children, Adia, Haley, and William Sisson of Hutchinson, KS; parents, 
Jim &amp; Helen Sisson of McPherson, KS; siblings, Jeremy Sisson

Beverly Blaha, 84, Linn, KS died Thursday March 30, 2023 at the Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center, KS.

Beverly was born to Richard "Rocky" and Edna (Brown) Bourne in 
Concordia, Ks.&nbsp; She graduated Delphos High school in 1956 and continued 
on to get her degree at Brown Mackie Business College in Salina, KS.&nbsp;

On June 3rd, 1957, she was united in marriage to Frank Blaha at the 
First Presbyterian Church in Delphos, KS.&nbsp; They&nbsp;moved to Linn in 1957 
where they raised 4 boys, Michael, Mitchell, Marshall and Monte.&nbsp; Frank 
preceded her in death in August of 2009.&nbsp;

Beverly raised her family and began a career in banking at Linn State
 Bank and continued for 25 years before retiring as a vice president of 
Tri-County National Bank in Linn. She was an active member of the 
community and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Beverly and Frank shared their faith in the Lord and Savior with 
their children and grandchildren.&nbsp; While retired, Beverly filled her 
days with many hobbies, loving sewing and quilting the most.&nbsp; Beverly 
was most proud of her “Grandma” title and spent her life loving and 
caring for her family and she was most adored by her grandchildren and 
great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents: Rocky and Edna Bourne, Step 
mother, Dorothy, husband Frank Blaha, father of their children and 
second husband, Kendall Simcox; Brother, Bob Bourne; and step brother 
Marshall Ballard.

Survivors include her sons, Michael (Kristy Balthazor) Blaha, Holiday
 Island, AR, Mitchell Blaha, Manhattan, KS, Marshall (Staci) Blaha, 
Platte City, MO and Monte (Angela) Blaha, Manhattan, KS, step brother

where they raised 4 boys, Michael, Mitchell, Marshall and Monte.&nbsp; Frank 
preceded her in death in August of 2009.&nbsp;Beverly raised her family and began a career in banking at Linn State
 Bank and continued for 25 years before retiring as a vice president of 
Tri-County National Bank in Linn. She was an active member of the 
community and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.Beverly and Frank shared their faith in the Lord and Savior with 
their children and grandchildren.&nbsp; While retired, Beverly filled her 
days with many hobbies, loving sewing and quilting the most.&nbsp; Beverly 
was most proud of her “Grandma” title and spent her life loving and 
caring for her family and she was most adored by her grandchildren and 
great grandchildren.Preceding her in death were her parents: Rocky and Edna Bourne, Step 
mother, Dorothy, husband Frank Blaha, father of their children and 
second husband, Kendall Simcox; Brother, Bob Bourne; and step brother 
Marshall Ballard.Survivors include her sons, Michael (Kristy Balthazor) Blaha, Holiday
 Island, AR, Mitchell Blaha, Manhattan, KS, Marshall (Staci) Blaha, 
Platte City, MO and Monte (Angela) Blaha, Manhattan, KS, step brother

Blaha, Wyatt VanDorn, Derek VanDorn, Wyatt Alexander, Kendal Proctor,

Ashley Marie Seidl, age 23, died Sunday, April 2, 2023, in McFarland, KS.

Ashley was born in Topeka, KS on December 5, 1999, the daughter of Joseph A Seidl and Michelle R DeLay.

She attended Wabaunsee High School graduating in the class of 2018. 
After high school, she attended Washburn University and Purdue 
University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. After 
graduation, she worked for Mize CPA as an accountant.

Ashley was a very ambitious person and was always working hard to 
achieve her life goals. She loved spending time with family and friends 
whether it was at a cookout or going riding around the country enjoying 
the outdoors. She was the glue that kept everyone together and always 
wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of.

Ashley is survived by her father Joseph Seidl, mother Michelle 
McKinley, sisters, Elizabeth Parker, Westmorland, KS; Christina Sievers,
 Alma, KS; Kimberly Miller, Topeka, KS; Nicole Seidl, Manhattan, KS; a

Abbott Kole Mumaw, age 17, was born January 12, 2006, in Topeka, 
Kansas, the son of TJ Mumaw and Megan Ten Eyck. A dirt bike accident 
claimed Abbott's life on March 31, 2023.

Abbott spent much of his early childhood exploring the outdoors at 
his home in McFarland, Kansas, at the farm that was once his 
great-grandparents'. He attended USD 329 schools until his family moved 
to Wamego, KS where he was a junior at Wamego High School. Abbott was an
 adventurer who loved riding his dirt bike. He had dreams of one day 
owning an old square body pickup truck, a passion that he and his dad 
shared. Abbott also had a love for music, especially Bob Seger. Abbott 
and his sister loved riding in the car with Mom, jamming out to their 
favorite music. Abbott will be remembered as a fiercely stubborn, 
kind-hearted young man with a head full of beautiful curls, and a smile 
that could light up a room.

Abbott was surrounded by so many people that loved him. He is 
survived by his parents Megan TenEyck (Mark Miller), and TJ Mumaw 
(Nicole Thomas). Other survivors include a brother Isaac Mumaw (Randi 
Murphy), a sister Morgan Mumaw, and a bonus sister McKinley Miller. He 
is also survived by maternal grandparents Bruce and Mary Berroth, and 
paternal grandparents Kip and Laura Mumaw. Abbott had many loving aunts 
and uncles including Stephanie (Rick) Alexander, Nick (Taryn Wilkins) 
Berroth, Kristin Berroth, Hannah (Brayden) Miller, Carlie (Kyle) Sommer,
 and Timmy (Karen) Mumaw. Abbott is also survived by his cousins 
including Nora, Addi, Annie, Izzy, Sadie, Kynlee, Clay, &amp; Lenny. 
Other survivors include his extended family, friends, and a phenomenal 
group of educators who have impacted him throughout the years.

Abbott was preceded in death by his sister, Ava Reanne Mumaw.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 
p.m. at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Abbott will lie
 in-state beginning at 3:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 7, 2023, at Peace 
United Church of Christ, 401 Grand Ave, Alma, KS at 11:00 a.m. with 
Pastor Julia Gaughan and Pastor John Austin officiating, with Burial

Ronald L. "Ron" Massey, 69, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on 
Monday, April 3, 2023, at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas.

later date. Ron was born July 28, 1953, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Frederick Eugene and Delores Marie (Covington) Massey. Ron
 attended schools in Topeka, Kansas. He worked for Union Pacific 
Railroad until his retirement. While working for the railroad, he was 
known as "Moose." He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1037 in Junction 
City, Kansas. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and traveling. On April 3, 2004, he married Carol Bugai in Las Vegas, Nevada. Survivors
 include his wife Carol of Junction City, Kansas; one son, David Massey 
and his wife Lacy of Scranton, Kansas; four daughters, Misty, Jamie, 
Dusty and Tina; three sisters, Debbie, Jeri and Linda; many 
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gwyn Ellen Johnson died Saturday, April 1, 2023, in her home. She was 
born Gwyn Ellen Hendricks on January 26, 1941, in Fort Smith, Arkansas,&nbsp; to parents Gwendolyn Randall Hendricks and John Paul Hendricks. The 
oldest of five Hendricks children, she grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas,&nbsp; and attended Catholic schooling, including Saint Scholastica, Immaculate
 Conception and Saint Anne’s Academy. 
After graduating, she attended Webster University in St. Louis, 
Missouri, followed by Dental Hygiene school at the University of Kansas 
City Missouri. It was there that she met and married her husband, 
Michael Johnson, and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage that was rooted 
in love, faith, family, and community. 
Gwyn and Mike moved to Abilene, Kansas, in 1962 where they worked 
together at Mike’s dental practice. From the moment Gwyn came to 
Abilene, she embraced everything it had to offer and began to establish 
community through friends and involvement at St. Andrews Church. She 
embraced the beauty of the Kansas prairie and inspired so many to do the
 same, leading hikes and tours, teaching others to appreciate Kansas 
native grasses and wildflowers. Later, she became an instrumental part 
of the Dickinson County Historical Society, the Arts Council of 
Dickinson County and a founding member of the Great Plains Theater, and 
founding member of the Community Foundation of Dickinson County. In 
March of 2023, she received the Women of Excellence award for her 
passion and dedication to her community. 
Gwyn is survived by son Tim (Jennifer), daughters Katy, Betsy (Hardy) 
and Emily (Jason), as well as eight grandchildren and one great 
grandchild and her sister Betsy Walters. She is preceded in death by her
 husband Michael Johnson, brother Randall Hendricks, son Robert (Bob) 
Johnson, grandson Ellis Johnson, sisters MaryLynn Lawler, Sally 
Marovich, as well as brother Tim Hendricks. 
Parish Rosary will be recited at 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 10th, 2023, at

Paul Allen Belford, 55, of Wamego, Kansas, left with
 his fishing pole and bait cooler to his final fishing trip on Friday, 
March 31, 2023. He was a longtime resident of the community.

Paul was born on August 28, 1967, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of 
Dale and Judy (Wagner) Belford. He attended many schools as he traveled 
with his father who was in the Army and graduated from High School in 
Augusta, Kansas. He received an associate degree in Specialized 
Technology for Electronics and Computers and served in the United States
 Air Force.

Paul loved tinkering with computers and enjoyed playing video 
games, but his passion was fishing and spending time with his family. Paul
 married Nicol Leann Farr on October 23, 1999. She survives at their 
home. along with their three sons, Seth Robert Belford, Ryan Allen 
Belford, and Kole Henry Belford.

Paul is also survived by his mother, Judy Humble; his in-laws, 
Robert and Sharon Kelsey; and his sister siblings, Angela Glosenger. He 
was preceded in death by his father, and his brother Robert Belford, and
 his father-in-law Robert Farr Sr.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 3:00 pm until 
5:00 pm, Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home 
in Wamego. There will be a Time of Remembrance and military honors at 
4:00 pm.

Madalyn Schumacher, 75, of Wamego,  passed away at Sunday, March 26th, at her home in Wamego.

Born
 in Hastings, Nebraska, on July 25, 1947, Madalyn Schumacher was the 
daughter of the late Mary Lou (Naylor) and Dallas C Douglas.  She 
graduated from Riley Co. High School in 1966. On Oct. 11, 1991, she was 
joined in marriage with Ernest R. White in Manhattan and he survives.  
She was employed as the Animal Shelter/ACO supervisor at the T. Russell 
Reitz Animal Shelter in Manhattan from 1990-2012. Prior to that she 
worked at a pet shop in Aggieville.

survived by her husband Ernest of the home; a daughter, Aundria Downey, 
of Gladstone, MO; and a sister Karla Baker, of Holton, Kansas

Lorena Lee Wilcox, age 66 of Blue Rapids, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the Frankfort Community Care Home.

She
 was born on November 23, 1956, in Marysville, the daughter of Robert Guy
 and Garnet Sharleen (Singleton) Wilcox.&nbsp; She graduated from Valley 
Heights High School.

She
 is survived by two daughters, Amber Swearingen of Blue Rapids and 
Jackie Swearingen of Wymore, Nebraska; one son, Shane Shanek of Belvue; 
four brothers, Bryon Wilcox, Bob (Cathy) Wilcox, Jon (Deb Long) Wilcox 
and Randy Wilcox; two sisters, Vickie (Scott Mahan) Morgan and Rene 
(Ken) Smith; seven grandchildren, Zoe, Rylee, Ashlynne, Blaise, Skylar, 
Ryker and Maverick; her step-father, Tim Davis and numerous nieces and 
nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William “Bill” Wilcox.

A memorial service date and time will be announced later by the Christie-Anderes Funeral in Waterville.

Sarah Sue English, 70, died peacefully Friday March 31, 2023, at home surrounded by family.

Sarah was born Oct. 15, 1952, in Kansas City, KS to Rita H. English 
and William J. English and graduated from Shawnee Mission West High 
School, 1970.&nbsp; She earned a BS in Landscape Architecture from the 
University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK.&nbsp; She subsequently obtained an MS 
degree in Environmental City Planning from Kansas State University, 
Manhattan, KS.

Sarah was a veteran serving her country in the US Coast Guard from 
March 1975 to December 1979 as a Telephone Technician (E5).&nbsp; She was in 
the second class of women to be enlisted into the US Coast Guard.&nbsp; She 
was stationed in New York City, NY, New Orleans, LA, and Little Rock, 
AR.

Sarah married Brett Bodily on Sept 1, 1988, in Manhattan, KS. During
 their marriage, she worked with her husband as a project manager at 
their industrial painting company executing large scale projects. &nbsp;Her 
husband preceded her in death in 2006.&nbsp; Sarah is also preceded in death 
by her parents and a sister, Paula L. Ewing. After her husband’s death 
she worked as a Project Analyst for the State of Texas Facilities 
Commission, Austin, TX.

Survivors include brothers, John English (Linda English) Shawnee, KS,
 J. Ted English, Stillwell, KS, sisters Veronica English (Doran Ward), 
Helena, MT, Cecilia (Chuck) Miller, Purdy, MO, Rita Bassett, Dickson, 
TN, M. Bernadette (Alan) Anglyn, Edgerton, KS and Jessie M. English, 
Cambridge, MA, and 29 nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Sarah lived in Austin, Texas from 2007-2019 where she worked as a 
Transformational Life Coach and was an integral member of the Austin 
metaphysical community.&nbsp; She continued this work when she moved to Taos,
 NM in 2019.&nbsp; With this community she worked on her life-mission to help
 people be true to themselves.&nbsp; Sarah was passionate about nature and 
animals, particularly her well-loved dogs.&nbsp; In her last years, she lived 
in Taos, NM (2019-2022) where she enjoyed and shared photographs of the 
stunning Taos sunrises and sunsets. Sarah’s vivacious wit, charm, and 
laughter will be especially missed by her family and friends.

A Celebration of Sara's life will be announced in the coming weeks.

Virginia Sue Ludowese, 80, died April 3, 2023, in Junction City, KS.&nbsp; 
She was born on August 11, 1942, in Lindsay, OK the daughter of Tommy 
and Cleo Curlee.&nbsp; 

Virginia served in the US Army from 1960 to 1962, 
after graduating from high school. She married Robert Ludowese on April 
28, 1962.&nbsp; Virginia worked as a stocker and cashier for Wal-Mart for 
several years.&nbsp; Robert preceded her in death on January 30, 2014.&nbsp; She 
was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Glenn Curlee.
