 back on our lives we probably all wish we had done some things 
differently. We can languish in self-pity for hardships we face along 
the way but looking around there is someone, somewhere that is truly 
worse off than ourselves. My wife and life partner had every right to 
self-pity and bitterness, but she chose not to go down that dark path. 
Kathryn (Kathy) Eileen Yonning Richardson left her broken body behind 
and passed on Monday, February 6, 2023, to join our son to watch over 
me. Kathy was born on November 23, 1952, in Onaga, Kansas, to 
James and Marylin (Wegner) Yonning. She grew up in Manhattan, Kansas,&nbsp; and graduated from Kansas State University. She was preceded in death 
by her parents, her brother Wayne Yonning, and our son, Nikolaus Drake 
Richardson. Her closest surviving relatives are her aunt, Arletta 
Bennett, of Aurora, CO, her sister-in-law, Janet Yonning (Wayne’s wife) 
of St. George, KS, brothers and sisters-in-law David Richardson (Sharon)
 of Cleveland Heights, OH, Ralph Richardson (Beverly), of Olathe, KS, 
and me. Kathy and I met in 1973 in downtown Manhattan, Kansas, at 
the Vista Villager. It was a chance meeting on a very warm summer night,
 introduced by a mutual friend, Cindy (Anderson) Stitt, when we all were
 having the urge for ice cream. Thinking she was way out of my league, 
it took quite some time for me to get the courage to ask her out. The 
rest is truly history. We were married in 1975 in Manhattan while we 
both were attending Kansas State University. She completed both 
undergraduate and graduate studies. She received her Master’s degree in 
Biology soon after we were married. She was an active member of the 
Alpha Xi Delta sorority as well as with her fellow Biology graduate 
students. Thanks to her frugal nature, and skill at budgeting (and 
sticking to it!), we were able to live on her research and teaching 
assistantship stipend. Her research was in pancreatic regeneration and 
was leading edge research that has been the basis of techniques used 
today. Her major professor, Brian Spooner, never forgave me from 
stealing her away before he could get her to follow up on her work with a
 PhD. After graduation our life journey took us to Auburn 
University, the University of Tennessee, Purdue, North Carolina State 
University, and then back to Kansas. She worked in research in labs at 
Auburn and the University of Tennessee. At Auburn, working in a lab at 
the Veterinary School, she interacted with many students from around the
 US and the world. She was the instigator of several “international” 
potluck dinners in our relatively cramped mobile home in Conway’s 
Trailer Park. When in Tennessee she loved our trips into the Smoky 
Mountains where we enjoyed camping, trying to catch enough trout for a 
meal, sliding down the mountain ravines on piles of Fall leaves in Cades
 Cove, and playing tourist in Gatlinburg and surrounding areas. Our 
son, Nikolaus, was born in Knoxville just before the World’s Fair. 
Nik’s god parents are our close friends Lyda and DJ Krahwinkel. We
 then made our first “post being a student” move to Lafayette, IN where I
 took my first faculty position and Kathy settled into being the most 
wonderful mother our son could ever have. She was very active in the 
church choir and helping with vacation bible school. My brother, Ralph 
and his family, were in Lafayette where he too was on the faculty at 
Purdue. It was wonderful having family near and the chance for cousins 
to get to know one another. Her one harrowing experience in Indiana was
 a frozen gas line stalling the car on a country road in the midst of a 
frigid winter storm. Pre-cell phone era, Kathy, ever prepared, bundled 
Nik in a blanket and hiked to a farmhouse where all turned out fine. Our
 next move was to North Carolina where I was on faculty. In 1989 she was
 diagnosed with a tumor within her spinal cord. Her recovery following 
surgery was nothing short of miraculous. 1991 found us back in Kansas, 
close to home and able to be close and provide support for aging 
parents. Soon to follow was a recurrence of her tumor and a diagnosis 
of MS. A second surgery in 1993 resulted in her requiring a wheelchair 
and the MS kept her in the chair for the remainder of her life. Kathy’s
 personality was such that she absorbed the negative and reflected the 
positive throughout her life. She didn’t have the time, and ultimately 
didn’t have the energy to put up with arguing or outright negativity. Even
 when trapped inside a physical body broken by a spinal cord tumor and 
MS, those that knew her know she never complained. She was kind, smart, 
and gracious. She always smiled, which our son Nik inherited. She was a
 very strong individual that quietly inspired others by her actions, not
 her words. She fought fearlessly to maintain her independence and was 
very self-sufficient up until the very latest years of her life. 
Besides the challenging physical constraints, in 1999 she had to deal 
with the loss of our son. Nikolaus, the high school student body 
president, the kid that everyone liked, the son that was our pride and 
joy, smart, effervescent, loving, kind, compassionate, and smart, became
 a victim of suicide. This forever changed us. We only had 2 choices, 
go forward or not. Kathy battled through and we chose to go forward, 
not give up. We were and have always been a team, leaning on each other 
for support. In 2008 we were asked by Kansas State University to lead 
the development of the new Kansas State University Olathe campus. I say 
“we” because the leadership at KSU knew we were a team. So, while I 
worked on getting the campus built, she became involved with the Olathe 
Persons with Disabilities Advisory Board (PDAB). This was one of the 
happiest times of her life. She was the instigator and integral to the 
establishment of a voluntary review process in Olathe for new or 
remodeled buildings to help exceed the minimum requirements of the 
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in order to achieve a more 
universal design for accessibility. The new KSU Olathe campus was one of
 the first to benefit from this review process. The campus received the
 first award for accessibility given out by the board and the city of 
Olathe. Unknown to most, Kathy was an accomplished artist and 
writer. I was the sole beneficiary of her art as she was quite private 
and did not choose to “exhibit” her work. I received hand painted cards 
on Christmas, Valentines, birthdays, and anniversaries with her original
 personal, heartfelt verses that were thematic with the picture. The 
painting always represented something current in our life together. Slowly
 her body became her limiting force. Losing her ability to paint was 
probably the greatest loss for her. However, she still did not 
complain. She cherished the visits from friends and family. My brother
 David and sister-in-law Sharon as well as their son, our nephew Mark 
Richardson, and his family, made numerous trips from Ohio and Maryland 
respectively over the last few years to be with her. Their daughter, our
 niece Helena, never missed communicating with Kathy on Mother’s Day, 
Nik’s Birthday, nor the anniversary of Nik’s death. My brother Ralph and
 sister-in-law Beverly in Olathe were ever at our beck and call whenever
 we needed them. She loved those visits, even when she wasn’t able to 
interact and visit to the time and level she would have wished. These
 last few years have been challenging to everyone. We need to remember 
being shut in, unable to get out and socialize are hardships but nothing
 like what Kathy and others in her situation endure for life. My 
greatest joy in life is knowing that when people see me, they see Kathy.

Jeannie
 was born in Ramona, KS to Grover and Magdalena (Stemmermann) Hackler as
 the youngest of eight children. In seventh grade, the family moved to 
Junction City where she graduated from JC High School in 1950.

She
 earned a teaching certificate from St John’s College, Winfield, KS and 
taught in Danville, IL, Wichita, KS and Our Saviour Lutheran, KCK where 
she met the love of her life, Dick Beilharz. They were married on April 
14, 1961.&nbsp; They loved to travel to faraway places often ending up on a 
beach. They were married 17 years and raised their 3 daughters in God’s 
faith.

After
 Dick passed, she worked at Highlands Elementary School, American Cancer
 Society and Andrews McMeel Universal. Her volunteer activities were 
vast including the church, Johnson County Young Matrons, Lutheran Social
 Services, Indian Hills Country Club and her daughters’ schools and 
activities. As a young mother herself, she brought unwed mothers into 
her home from across Kansas to stay until they had their babies. While 
President of JCYM, Jean and Dick helped start the Temporary Lodging for 
Children in Olathe, KS.

On
 March 4, 1989, she married Francis Spreen and they were married 34 
years. They enjoyed entertaining and exploring the back roads on their 
travels through the USA.

Her
 pride and joy were her daughters and later grandchildren, she rarely 
missed one of their events. She never forgot a birthday or special 
occasion to those she loved and always signed the card, “Love you 
dearly”. She would often joke with her girls while they were growing up,
 “You’ll miss me when I’m gone” and she was right - She will be greatly 
missed.

She
 is survived by her daughters Becky Beilharz; Bethany Beilharz Humphrey 
(Trey); Gretchen Beilharz; Grandchildren: Billy, Elena and Kate 
Humphrey; husband Francis; stepchildren: Scott Spreen (Becky), Doug 
Spreen (Lynn), Camille Spreen Peeples (Rob); sisters-in-law Ruth Ann 
(Gene) and Emma (Bob); numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and
 lifelong friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Dick; 
parents; siblings: Roland Hackler (Betty); Mildred Hackler; Eugene 
Hackler; Robert Hackler; Eunice Hackler Baresel (Art); Daryl Hackler.

Celebration
 of Life will be Monday, February 20, at the church 4153 Rainbow Blvd, 
KCK, 9:00 AM visitation, 10:00 AM service. Donation suggestion to the 
church or University of Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.

W. Jean Beilharz Spreen

Melvin "Mel" Felix Eisele, 74, of Dunlap, KS, passed away 
Wednesday, February 1st, at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City.  He 
was a long-time rancher and a jack of all trades.

Mel 
was born in Waupun, Wisconsin on July 21, 1948, the son of the late  
Earl F. and Mildred Mae (Zabel) Eisele.   He attended and graduated from
 Waupun, WI High School, Waupun, Wisconsin.  After graduation, he served
 in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and also in Desert Storm. Mel 
was a member of the Dunlap City Council.

Melvin is 
survived by two daughters, Amber (her wife, April) Zapata, of Manhattan;
 Marcella Butts, of Sheboygan Falls, WI;  a son, Richard Eisele, of Fond
 du Lac, WI; a sister, Donna Eisele, of Waupun, WI, and grand: 11; 
great: 17.  Mel is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, 
David and Don.

A "Service of Remembrance" will be held 
at a later date,  Memorials may be made to the donors' choice.

Crystal M. Parr, 35, passed away Saturday, February 4th, 2023.  
Crystal was an overnight baker for Panera Bread.  Services are private 
at the convenience of family.

Crystal Marie was born in
 San Jose, Calif. on January 1, 1988, the daughter of Pamela Johnson and
 Scott Correia of Manhattan.  Crystal is also survived by two daughters,
 Kayleigh A Pacelli, Hannah L. Schadel and two sons Christian T Pacelli,
 Alex J. Schadel; two sisters, Adreanna M. Correia, Fawn R. Schadel and a
 brother, Joseph A. Correia.

Robert Delane Nelson, age 77, entered eternal rest on February 9, 2023. He was born May 19, 1945 to Dowd and Mary Ethel Nelson (Moser) in Matthews, NC.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Robert&nbsp;graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC with the class of 1963. 

In October 1964, at&nbsp;the age of 19, he enlisted in the United States Army as a&nbsp;76Z Supply Soldier. He offered his service to his country&nbsp;for 22 years serving at multiple duty stations to include&nbsp;Korea and Fort Riley, KS. As a proud and patriotic soldier,&nbsp;he quickly rose in the ranks and was promoted above his&nbsp;peers. During his time in service, Robert received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Award, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with 4 devices, Meritorious Service Award with Oak leaf, Army Commendation Medal with 2nd Oak leaf, 6 Good Conduct Medals, and qualified Expert with his weapon, the M16 rifle. After years of exemplary service, Robert retired from the US Army in January 1986 where he was the First Sergeant of HHC Platoon, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, KS.

In 1967, Robert married Patricia Wood, and to this union two children were born: Robert Nelson II and Teresa Nelson. They later divorced.&nbsp; In 1977, Robert married Patsy Lamb and also had 2 children: Tonya Fisher and&nbsp;Rebecca Allen. They later divorced.

Robert loved all things outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He loved coon hunting on his mules, especially old “Pete.” Robert was an avid fisherman, and known to always own a bird dog.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Dowd and Mary Ethel Nelson, his twin brother Richard, his brother J.L., and his sister Edith. 

He is survived by his beloved dog and sidekick, Cindy; his sister Christy Ramee (Mike), his son Robert Nelson II, his daughters Teresa Nelson, Tonya Fisher (Laura), and Rebecca Allen (Tim Coleman), nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family has chosen cremation as were Robert’s wishes. 

A graveside service will be held at a later date. His final resting place will be in Prairiedale Cemetery north of Talmage, KS.

Robert Nelson

Pauline Dyer Shortle, age 93 of Huntsville, Texas, passed away on February 7, 2023.

She was born in Manhattan, KS on February 16, 1929 to George and Myrtle Dyer. She was the oldest of 3 sisters including Barbara Stone and Carolyn Snow. The girls grew up on a rural farm near Riley, KS with all of the challenges, chores, privileges, learning, and love that came along with a Great Depression Era farm upbringing. Their childhoods were not easy but they also had everything they needed. The stories of their upbringing , and there were many, included horses, pigs, barns, hay, and raccoons among other things and the high quality of the experience was obvious to those that were fortunate enough to hear them.&nbsp;

After Pauline graduated from Riley Rural High School in 1947, she met the love of her life, James “Wayne” Shortle who was an Electrical Engineering student at Kansas State in Manhattan. Wayne had served in WW2 in the Naval Air Force and was at school courtesy of the GI bill. Pauline and Wayne married in 1949 and moved to Topeka, KS upon Wayne’s graduation. They were blessed with their first child Cindy in Topeka in 1950.&nbsp;

The family moved with Wayne’s career to the Poughkeepsie, NY area in 1951. Pauline and Wayne’s second child, Wayne, was born in 1959. The family of 4 moved to Seabrook, TX in 1963 where Wayne was working for IBM’s Federal Systems Division whose primary customer was NASA’s space programs, particularly the Apollo program.&nbsp;

Pauline and Wayne settled into raising the family from 1963 forward. They were very active in the Seabrook United Methodist Church including teaching Sunday school together for well over a decade. Pauline put her talents to work, green thumb and otherwise, into the Timber Cove Garden Club and Civic Club. She was also active in diverse activities ranging from painting to bowling to bridge in her ”spare “ time. Pauline was also a member of the Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO) which provides educational opportunities for women.&nbsp;

As her children became more independent Pauline took a job as a floor rep at Sakowitz Department store where she worked from the mid 1970’s into the mid 1980’s. She was good at the job and ultimately was promoted to a buyers role and even made a buying trip to Spain at one point. Pauline and Wayne always remained active in the church throughout.&nbsp;

Wayne passed in 1992 and Pauline lived in the family home in Seabrook until 2021 where she continued to work and remain active at the church. Pauline moved to live with her son and his wife Joanna in 2021 where she lived until her passing.&nbsp;

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her sister Barbara, and her grandson Isaac Zito.&nbsp;

Pauline’s loving survivors include her son and daughter, daughter in law, two grandchildren ( J.W. and Lilly), one great grandson (Felix), sister (Carolyn), nephew (Jeff), and niece ( Ravay).

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Riley Cemetery.

Pauline Dyer Shortle

Kenneth Wayne Kruse, 85, of Marysville died February 7, 2023 at Cambridge Place in Marysville.&nbsp;

Ken was born&nbsp;September 8, 1937 on the family farm near Bremen, Kansas, to Laverne and Verna (Bormann) Kruse. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Bremen. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School through grade 8 and graduated from Hanover High School in 1955. He attended Kansas University before starting work at the Pick Kansas Hotel in Topeka. Hotel finance became his life work until he retired from the Buena Vista Palace Hotel in Orlando, Florida, in 1998 as Director of Finance.

He was united in marriage on&nbsp;June 6, 1965 to Kay Williamson at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waterville. They left that night for Atlanta, Georgia where Ken had been transferred three months before.

Ken worked in hotels for 50 years in Atlanta, Huntsville, Alabama, and Orlando and Tampa, Florida, moving to Orlando when Walt Disney World opened. In March, 2015, they moved to Marysville to be closer to family.

Ken was a founding member of Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals and served as their president.

After retirement, Ken and Kay enjoyed traveling, mostly in their motor home. They visited all 50 states, most of Canada, Israel, Europe, Africa, and China. Ken also enjoyed antique cars and owned several, boating, gardening, crosswords, and feeding the birds. He was president of Tampa Cruis-a-Cade Club and went on many boat trips with them. He also went several times to the Easter Jeep Safari at Moab, Utah, where he enjoyed driving the jeep trails.

Survivors include his wife, Kay; brother Harlen (Kathy) Kruse, Herkimer; and sister, Arlene (Dale) Hiesterman, Washington, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Loren, Merlin, and Larry; sisters-in-law Bernice and Donna; and nephew, Danny.

Viewing will be&nbsp;Thursday, February 9&nbsp;from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

The Funeral Service will be at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waterville&nbsp;Friday, February 10&nbsp;at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor David Thompson officiating.&nbsp; Kim Oatney will be the organist.&nbsp; Wayne Kruse will sing “In The Garden” and “Abide With Me”.&nbsp; Casket Bearers are: Terry Kruse, Mike Kruse, Lance Kruse, Randy Hiesterman, Justin Kruse and Roger Hiesterman.&nbsp; Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Waterville.

Wilma Jean Guy was born February 7, 1925, near Longford, Clay County, Kansas. The daughter of Archil V. and Lucille Smith Carter. She died February 9, 2023, in Wichita, Kansas.

She attended Vinzant and Pleasant Prairie rural schools and graduated from Longford Rural High School in 1942. During her senior year and following graduation, she worked as a relief operator for the Longford Telephone Company. In February 1943, she went to Concordia, Kansas to work for her uncle and aunt at the West Side Inn. She worked there for 2 1/2 years. In July 1945, she went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator and worked there until January 1947.

September 30, 1946, she was married to Richard Earl Keough. They moved to Astoria, Oregon in January 1947, and lived there until March 1950. To this union 3 children were born Michael Duane, Raymond Carter, and Mary Jean. They later divorced and Wilma and her children moved to Longford.&nbsp;

In July 1957, she went to work at the Longford Post Office as a substitute clerk and worked there until February 1967. In August 1963, she was united in marriage to George M. Guy. To this union was born one son, Bryan Mathew.

In August 1976, she started working at the Coachlight Restaurant in Longford, Kansas and worked there for 30 years. With the exception of seven years in Concordia, Kansas and Astoria, Oregon, her first 86 years was spent in the Longford Area. Wilma moved to Colwich, KS in 2011 to be closer to her children. She was a member of the Longford United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, her parents; sister, Doris; and grandson, Allen Keough.

Survivors include her son, Michael (Gayle) Keough of Webster, FL; son, Raymond (Myrna) Keough of McPherson, KS; daughter, Mary Jean Chacon of Colwich, KS; and son, Bryan (Stephanie) Guy of Colwich, KS; 12 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great Great Grandchildren; 2 nieces, Evelyn Matson of Longford, KS, her children LaRon and Laryce and Marsha Longden of Applegate, CA as well as former daughter in law and special friend, Della Keough.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Longford United Methodist Church in Longford, KS.

Wilma Jean Guy

Kaylea Sudermann, 16 of Solomon passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023. She was born November 24, 2006 in Beloit, Kansas, the daughter of Chris Sudermann and Crystal Koelzer.

 Kaylea spent most of her young life in Solomon and attended the Solomon School District. She enjoyed volleyball, was an avid artist and enjoyed baking and cooking.

 Kaylea is survived by her parents, Chris and Andrea Sudermann and Crystal Sudermann. Two sisters, Madison Sudermann and Zoey Walton. Grandparents: Steve and Nancy Sudermann; Toni Bynum and husband Lance; Duane LaCost and wife Pam and Terri Koelzer. Aunts and uncles, Kim Strecker (Nathan); Jessica Sudermann; Josh Sudermann; Amanda Newton (Jason) ; Jamie LaCost (Monica) and Chad Bynum and Amber Koelzer and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandpa, Bill Koelzer.

 The family has chosen cremation. Memorial Services will be held at a later time. Donations may be made to the Sudermann family that will go towards a memorial fund set up for the local art program in Kaylea's name.  </figure>Kaylea Sudermann, 16 of Solomon passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023. She was born November 24, 2006 in Beloit, Kansas, the daughter of Chris Sudermann and Crystal Koelzer. Kaylea spent most of her young life in Solomon and attended the Solomon School District. She enjoyed volleyball, was an avid artist and enjoyed baking and cooking. Kaylea is survived by her parents, Chris and Andrea Sudermann and Crystal Sudermann. Two sisters, Madison Sudermann and Zoey Walton. Grandparents: Steve and Nancy Sudermann; Toni Bynum and husband Lance; Duane LaCost and wife Pam and Terri Koelzer. Aunts and uncles, Kim Strecker (Nathan); Jessica Sudermann; Josh Sudermann; Amanda Newton (Jason) ; Jamie LaCost (Monica) and Chad Bynum and Amber Koelzer and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandpa, Bill Koelzer. The family has chosen cremation. Memorial Services will be held at a later time. Kathleen Kay “Kathy” (Seifert) Bean, 73, of Solomon, KS, died 
Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Salina Regional Health Center.&nbsp; She was 
born May 30, 1949, in Ellsworth, KS, to Clinton “Butch” and Ella Mae 
(Kaufman) Seifert.

Kathy was raised in Russell, KS, and graduated as Salutatorian of the
 Russell High School class of 1967. She attended Bethany College and 
The University of Kansas, where she graduated with degrees in Journalism
 and Public Relations.&nbsp; She worked for KINA and KSAL radio stations in 
Salina.

Kathy was an avid bowler, participating in many state and national 
bowling tournaments and was inducted into the Salina Bowling Association
 Hall of Fame in 1995.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Dennis Bean; sisters, Annielaurie 
Seifert (Bill Modrzynski) of Lawrence, KS, Jeanine Seifert Arrighi (John
 Steitz) of St. Louis, MO, Dinah Seifert Heidrick (Steve) of Beloit, KS,
 and Tammy Seifert Albertson (Mark) of Petaluma, CA; sister-in-law, 
Karen Steffen, Junction City, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents. Cremation services were provided by Ryan Mortuary and Crematory in Salina.

Memorials may be sent to Ryan Mortuary and Crematory, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, KS 67401-2686, toward final expenses.

Kathleen Kay 'Kathy' (Seifert) Bean

Orletha Mae Dusin, age 80, of Manhattan, died February 9, 2023 at the Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan.

Orletha was born on February 13, 1942 in Maple Hill, Kansas, the daughter of George and Ada (Thompson) Lytle. She grew up in the Maple Hill area and graduated from St. Marys Highschool with the class of 1960.

Orletha was united in marriage to Edward Dusin on December 24, 1965. He preceded her in death in April of 1987.

She worked various jobs over the years, from helping with the paper route, to cleaning houses and was also the lunch room supervisor at Lee Elementary in Manhattan. She loved working on jigsaw puzzles, sewing, knitting and crocheting. Orletha loved to cook for her family when she they were visiting. During the last few years while living at Stoneybrook, her peaceful time was spent listening to old time country music.

In addition to her husband Edward, she was preceded in death by her son Allen, and her sister Lucille.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Harris of Manhattan, and also her grandchildren: Kevin, Wesley, and Vanessa. She will be missed by her family and friends and the staff of Stoneybrook, who took such good care of Orletha.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00a.m. Monday February 20, 2023 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan, with Pastor Melanie Nord officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

Wayne White, 83, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023 at his home in Junction City.&nbsp; Cremation will take place. A graveside service with military honors is pending at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Wayne was born September 25, 1939 in Monroe, Louisiana the son of Jim M. and Elizabeth (Bessie) Frazier-White. He was the youngest of three children. Wayne spent his early childhood in Monroe until entering the United States Army in November of 1957. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8) in 1979. During his Army career, he honorably served two tours in Okinawa, Japan, three tours in Viet Nam and one tour in Korea. After his retirement, he worked four years as a deputy for the Geary County Sheriff's Department. He also worked for the Grandview Plaza Police Department until he retired as their Chief of Police in 1995. Wayne was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagle's Lodge, American Legion Post #45 and the National Rifle Association. Wayne enjoyed coon and squirrel hunting. He also always had livestock to take care of. Wayne was often quoted as saying "animals were more genuine than People". On October 7, 1983, he married Judy Norris. Survivors include his wife Judy of the home in Junction City, Kansas; one step-son, William Dill and his wife Dee of Junction City, Kansas; one step-daughter, Angela Seldon of Virginia; four grandsons and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and one sister.&nbsp;&nbsp;

City, MO 64111, at 9:30 A.M.&nbsp; Visitation will be at Amos Family Funeral 
Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS&nbsp; 66203 on Thursday February 9, 
2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.&nbsp; Colby’s favorite team was the Kansas State 
Wildcats!&nbsp; Dress as you like but K-State attire and the color purple 
would be very appropriate!&nbsp; The Kansas City Chiefs would be a close 
second.

Colby was born May 26, 1999 at Overland 
Park Regional Medical Center to Denise and Chris Kostelac of Shawnee, 
KS. Colby was the middle of three children.&nbsp; He was baptized at Our Lady
 of Perpetual Help.&nbsp; Growing up Colby was close with his older brother 
Avery and younger sister Tasha.&nbsp; There was that one magical year for his
 parents where all three were in the same school building.&nbsp; Like all 
siblings they squabled but Colby was fiercely protective of his family 
and would always look out for them.&nbsp; Tasha has said his protective 
nature is one thing she will miss the most about Colby.&nbsp; Avery mentioned
 their silly, immature and often “inside” jokes as the thing he will 
miss most.

Colby Began his academic career at 
Peppermint Patty’s day care and then Canterbury Preparatory School.&nbsp; 
There his antics led to him becoming lifelong friends with the owners.&nbsp; 
He then attended grade school at Benninghoven Elementary in Shawnee and 
went from there to Trailridge Middle School finally graduating from 
Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in 2017.&nbsp; While at Shawnee Mission
 Northwest, Colby was a member of Marching Band for four years, Swim Team
 for 2 years, a manager for the girls Swim Team, and played tennis for 
one year.&nbsp; One class he particularly enjoyed in high school was 
woodworking, taking those classes several semesters.&nbsp; Colby worked hard 
to prepare for the next step and he was very proud of his acceptance to 
Kansas State University. In the fall of 2017 Colby headed off to 
Manhattan, KS for his next great adventure.

Growing up, to say Colby was a typical 
boy would be a considerable understatement.&nbsp; He excelled in sports but 
often disagreed with the calls of the officials.&nbsp; He played many sports 
but swimming and soccer were his passions. He loved to swim, boat and 
fish.&nbsp; He and his friend Reid could often be found with their lines in 
the water.&nbsp; Fish were rarely in danger, but they would talk for hours 
and hours.&nbsp; This friendship continued to Colby’s last moment on earth as
 Reid joined him at K-State and spent those last watchful hours on 
Friday with our family.

His sophomore year of high school, Colby
 suffered a Sudden Cardiac Arrest.&nbsp; This occurred while swimming in gym 
class.&nbsp; Several things came together that day that helped Colby become 
one of less than 10% of people who survive a Sudden Cardiac Arrest 
outside a hospital.&nbsp; The attention of his teacher, prompt CPR, the 
intervention of the school nurse and school resource officer coupled 
with the close proximity and skill of the first responders overshadowed 
by the Grace of God, resulted in Colby’s resuscitation and recovery.&nbsp; He
 was very grateful for the excellent care he received at Children’s 
Mercy Hospital.&nbsp; It wasn’t long before Colby was back to being Colby.&nbsp; 
However, this incident left him with a greater appreciation for life and
 faith in God.&nbsp; After that, Colby made it a point to wear his cross 
daily.

At Kansas State University Colby found a
 circle of friends that exceeded all expectations. It was reassuring to 
his parents to know he had that camaraderie. Colby had an amazing spirit
 and when he showed up it always seemed the party had started.&nbsp; There 
are so many pictures and videos with the crazy antics of this group.&nbsp; 
Colby was studying Mass Communications with an emphasis in Strategic 
Communications&nbsp;at KSU and hoped to graduate in December of 2023.&nbsp; He was
 a founding father of the Iota Pi chapter of the Alpha Sigma Phi 
fraternity at K-State.&nbsp; Colby put his social skills to work serving as a
 bartender at several establishments in the Aggieville bar district.&nbsp; 
His last job which he truly enjoyed was at the Marriott hotel bar.&nbsp; 
There he engaged in mixology far more complex than the typical pulling 
of a tap or pouring of a shot.

Colby was preceded in death by many that
 he knew and loved; his grandparents, Joe and Betty Kostelac, Soren 
Medley, Richard Schlehuber, his great grandmother, Frieda Birkle, and 
his cousin Abigail Medley.&nbsp; He is survived by his parents Chris and 
Denise Kostelac, his brother Avery,&nbsp;his sister Tasha and his Grandmother
 Betty Medley. There are too many other friends, family, roommates and 
acquaintances to list them all.

Colby was passionate about the topic of 
Sudden Cardiac Arrest and often could be heard encouraging others to 
have more than the standard school sports physical.&nbsp; He knew that each 
year about 7000 young people under the age of 21 die of Sudden Cardiac 
Arrest.&nbsp; Many of those incidents are sports related.&nbsp; His family would 
like Colby to be able to continue that advocacy even after his death.&nbsp;

Colby Christian Kostelac

First Sergeant Freddie Hicks (United States Army, Retired) came into 
this world destined for greatness on September 12, 1959, in Memphis, 
Tennessee.   Sixty-three years later, he peacefully passed into paradise 
at his residence, surrounded by his family, on February 1, 2023, in 
Manhattan, Kansas, completing his memorable life on earth.

First
 Sergeant (Retired) Hicks became an active-duty soldier on January 19, 
1982, in Jackson, Mississippi, and retired on December 31, 2004, on Fort 
Riley, Kansas.  He served his country honorably and with great 
distinction as an Infantryman for 22 plus gung-ho years having achieved 
his childhood dream. During his military career, First Sergeant Hicks 
(Ret.) fought in numerous wars; and served in many duty stations all 
over the world; and was the recipient of many decorations, medals 
badges, citations, and campaign ribbons with the highest being the 
bronze medal.

After First Sergeant Hicks’ honorary 
military career, Mr. Hicks became a government contractor for the Fort 
Riley Mission Training Complex.   Mr. Hicks exhibiting those same work 
ethics displayed in the Army ultimately earning him high regards among 
his coworkers as a civilian employee.  During his employment, he held 
various positions. He excelled in each position. Whenever, a new piece 
of equipment was introduced to the Mission Training Complex, Mr. Hicks 
who became the “go-to” guy because he took the initiative to learned 
every operational function of that piece of equipment. Demonstrating his
 dedication to his profession.  If you were to ask his co-workers what 
one word they would say about him, it would be “RESPECT” which he too 
often reciprocated. His work ethics at best is described in Proverbs

life and the importance of financial management.  He believed in the

graduated CUM LAUDE from Upper Iowa University with a Bachelor of 
Science Degree in Technology Information Management in 2009.

Ross and his beloved daughter, Ms. Nekevia Nicole Hicks.

 Hicks leaves to cherish his life an amazing blended family, which 
includes his wife of twenty-six years, Mrs. Vegina Hicks and former wife
 of ten years Ms. Dynetta Elaine Gore both of Manhattan, KS. He also 
leaves his two beloved Aunts: Ms. Mabel Ransfer of Indianola, MS.  
Beatrice Randle of Dallas, TX; two daughters: CaTera Christie of 
Montgomery, AL and Ms. Yolanda Greene of Sanford, NC; four sons: Mr. 
LaMarcus Hicks of Manhattan, KS, and Mr. LaMario (Remy) Hicks of 
Junction City, KS; Mr. David Gaskins of Raleigh, NC, Mr. Richard (Tia) 
Gaskins Washington, DC; two sisters: Ms. Mary Lee Hicks and Ms. Rebecca 
Warren of Memphis, TN; two brothers: Mr. Clinton Ross of Arizona, Tommie
 Hicks of Milwaukee, WS and fourteen grandchildren and two 
great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and his 
extended family on his wife’s side.

Yes, Mr. Hicks had 
many accomplishments, but what does it profit a man to gain the whole 
world and lose his soul (Mark 8:36). Mr. Hicks made peace with God, 
(Roman’s 5:1), by repenting and being baptized for the remission of his 
sins, (Acts 2:38), on December 25, 2022.  The LORD then added Mr. Hicks 
to HIS Church…the Church of CHRIST, (Acts 2:47).  Now, Mr. Hicks is 
resting in the bosom of Abraham, (Luke 16:22).

Mr. Hicks described his baptism experience as being “REFRESHED! (Exodus 31:17).

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 12, 2023, from 1:00PM to 3:00PM at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Homecoming
 services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on February 13, 2023, at 
Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, followed by burial with full 
military honors at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.

this world destined for greatness on September 12, 1959, in Memphis, 
Tennessee. Sixty-three years later, he peacefully passed into paradise 
at his residence, surrounded by his family, on February 1, 2023, in 
Manhattan, Kansas, completing his memorable life on earth.First
 Sergeant (Retired) Hicks became an active-duty soldier on January 19, 
1982, in Jackson, Mississippi, and retired on December 31, 2004, on Fort 
Riley, Kansas. He served his country honorably and with great 
distinction as an Infantryman for 22 plus gung-ho years having achieved 
his childhood dream. During his military career, First Sergeant Hicks 
(Ret.) fought in numerous wars; and served in many duty stations all 
over the world; and was the recipient of many decorations, medals 
badges, citations, and campaign ribbons with the highest being the 
bronze medal.After First Sergeant Hicks’ honorary 
military career, Mr. Hicks became a government contractor for the Fort 
Riley Mission Training Complex. Mr. Hicks exhibiting those same work 
ethics displayed in the Army ultimately earning him high regards among 
his coworkers as a civilian employee. During his employment, he held 
various positions. He excelled in each position. Whenever, a new piece 
of equipment was introduced to the Mission Training Complex, Mr. Hicks 
who became the “go-to” guy because he took the initiative to learned 
every operational function of that piece of equipment. Demonstrating his
 dedication to his profession. If you were to ask his co-workers what 
one word they would say about him, it would be “RESPECT” which he too 
often reciprocated. His work ethics at best is described in Proverbs

Patricia R. "Pat" Foust, 86, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City, Kansas. Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Pat was born March 16, 1936, in Clay Center, Kansas the daughter of Raymond and Elsie (Fiechter) Oltjen. Pat graduated from high school in Cedar Vale, Kansas. She was a homemaker extraordinaire. She was an excellent landscaper, baker, cook and quilter. While living in Arkansas City, Kansas she worked for Harvey's Fashions where she met a lot people and customers selling women's clothing. Animals were also a very important in her life especially her golden retriever. Pat married Phil Foust May 29, 1955 in Cedar Vale, Kansas. At the time, Phil was serving in the United States Air Force. Survivors include her husband Phil of the home in Junction City; one son, Graham Foust and his wife Denise of Junction City, Kansas; one daughter, Gretchen Foust and her partner Deb McWilliams of Nashville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Teiah, Whitney and Rocco; four great-grandchildren, Langdon, Tyren, Kiara and Arya. She was preceded in death by one son, Vincent Foust; one granddaughter, Jessie Foust and one brother, Thayne Oltjen.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Patricia R. 'Pat' Foust

Rosie Wenzl Klozenbucher, gentle soul, good neighbor, and an endlessly patient mother and grandmother from Greenleaf, died Feb. 3 at the Linn Community Care Home. She was 88.&nbsp;

She was born Rosemary Frances Fiegener, in Clay Center in 1934, to parents scratching out life in the Depression.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were getting divorced, and her mother Rose was mortally ill but did not know it; Rose died when Rosemary was two.&nbsp;A visitor to the house had found Rose unconscious on the floor and Rosemary crawling happily around her.

Her father Pete was a poor, shy man who lavished love on Rosemary until he got drafted into the U.S. Army. He was killed during the 1944 battle for the German city of Aachen.

Rosemary, nine years old, refused to believe he was dead; this was a fib, she told herself -- told in a family that nurtured grievances and fibs. She didn’t cry until three years later when Pete’s coffin came home.

After he was drafted,&nbsp;Rosemary would use either a stump or a wooden fence rail to climb barefooted and bareback onto Tony, a gentle horse kept at the Fiegener family ranch. She was all of five or six years old when she first rode Tony. She had two loves, Dad and Tony. And on Tony’s back she would trot through the Flint Hills of Pottawatomie County, Kansas, with Tony, wildflowers, birdsong and pollinating bees as companions. When she fell off, which was frequently, Tony would stand still as a gatepost, then find a stump for her climb.

But then Pete died, the family lost the ranch, and Rosemary lost Tony. Her three never-married aunts took on her care. They’d grown up in a family unfamiliar with affection. They didn’t dislike her; they fed, clothed and ignored her.&nbsp;“I might as well have been wallpaper,” she told us later. “Or a chair.”

When she reached high school age, the aunts sent her to Mount St. Scholastica, the Catholic girls boarding school in Atchison, where Rosemary knew no one. She studied mostly alone, never went out, kept a little unplanted seed of love close to her heart, pollinated by hope but not yet planted. And because it was a girls school, no boys noticed that shy little Rosemary Fiegener was drop-dead gorgeous -- dark hair, thoughtful dark eyes. And that she radiated kindness.

Her seed, her plan for sowing love, was simple in design, as she told us: “It was that if I was ever lucky enough to find love and kids, that they would get all that I never got: Hugs, attention, love, attention, toys, attention.”&nbsp; &nbsp;

And by and by, a handsome farmer came along, to help his sister move into the dorm on the first day of school. He did a double-take in the hall when he saw Rosemary. “Oh, WOW,” he said. &nbsp;

“Be nice,” his sister said. “She’s the nicest.”

Gene Wenzl dropped his sister Joan’s bags and patrolled the halls until he found Rosemary.&nbsp;

Gene was a talkative, bright guy who farmed and played trumpet in rural dance bands. He sang all the time at work, liked jokes and telling stories. He called her Rosie, because he liked nicknames, and she liked the name because it made her sound fun, and because it bothered her aunts, and so for the rest of her life she was Rosie to many and Rosemary to a few.

Rosie told her aunts she would marry Gene. Her aunts told her she would do no such thing because they planned to have Rosemary keep house for their family, as they had done, loveless and childless.

And for the first time ever, Rosie declared out loud that she would do as she darn well pleased.

Gene’s parents showered her with love and attention, which startled her at first. And soon after she married him in 1954, she and Gene made one baby, and then another, and eventually five boys in only nine years.

He sang while he plowed fields; he played trumpet. She showered her boys with attention, not just love but attention in the finest of details.

She read to her sons every night for many years, no matter how tired, or how annoying the little boys. She brought plastic alphabet letters home when Roy, the eldest, was six, so he could read by the time he started school. Tom set multiple fires; she put them out. She read and read and read stories, while Gene told them stories from history. The little boys became entranced by books and so went off to make adventures of their own. None of them became lawyers or Hollywood celebrities but they all became adrenaline junkies – cops, newspaper reporters, paramedics, EMTs, foster parents, mountain climbers, foreign exchange student sponsors, nurses.

Rosie got this started while also doing laundry and cooking and gardening and burping babies and helping with homework and running them to church, Catechism classes and school, rubbing their backs and putting wet washcloths on little faces when they had fevers. She hired a babysitter, Pat Lewis, who became a daughter-friend. And when girlfriends Sheryl and Sandy and Judy and Carol and Missy showed up, they became daughters before they married her sons, and Rosie gave them attention and hugs, affection and attention, kindnesses and attention.

Rosie led the Red Cross recovery program after a 1973 tornado destroyed much of Greenleaf. She stayed with her church’s Altar Society for decades.

Gene died early (1981 at age 50), leaving her with one son still at home and a farm on the edge of dissolution. She kept the farm in the family, and the sons came to keep it going.&nbsp;

Rosie took EMT training and spent many years crewing ambulances to scenes of accidents, injuries and illnesses. And at the end of her aunts’ lives, when they got lost in the house of mirrors of dementia, she showered them with attention and love and all the things they had not been able to give to her long before. But when in their house she found letters her father had written home from the war -- letters her aunts had hidden from her -- she cried.

She married Kimeo farmer Ed Klozenbucher in 1986; they spent 27 years together until his death in 2013. Gene had loved her dearly but was an edgy and impatient spouse; Ed treated her as a princess, as a gift, and she who lacked love early in life now cherished that love.

Sixteen grandchildren came, and they and their spouses showered love and affection and photos and attention on her. That little seed of love, nurtured in her early secret solitude, had grown her a garden of happiness. The grands gave her 22 great-grandchildren (so far), and she put photos of the grands and great-grands on her walls where she could look at them every hour of the day.

In the nursing home she was hands-down the staff’s choice as the nicest and sweetest resident.&nbsp;Grandson Gene was with her when she passed.

Her last words were, (to Larry): “I’m so glad you’re here.”

She was preceded in death by her son, Gary.

She leaves her sons, Rich (wife Judy), Almena, Kan.; Tom (Carol), Canon City, Colo.; Larry (Sandy) Greenleaf; Roy (Polly), Wichita; and daughter-in-laws forever Sheryl Wenzl, Wichita; Missy McLain, Wichita; daughter-friend Pat Lewis, Inman, Ks; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Rosie Wenzl Klozenbucher

Gary Francis Bergmeier, 85, Manhattan, died on February 3, 2023, after a short illness in Stoneybrook Long Term Care Manhattan, Kansas.

He was born April 1, 1937, the son of Frank and Evelyn (Budden) Bergmeier, in rural Wakefield, Kansas.

Gary graduated from Wakefield Rural High School with the Class of 1955. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Kansas State University in 1959.

He married Dixie Lee Sherbert on June 1, 1958, at the home of Bill and Lela Auld in Wakefield. Gary worked for the John Deere Company from 1964-71, mostly based in Colby, Kansas, then was a co-owner in a farm equipment dealership in Hoxie from 1971-77 and owner of a dealership in Phillipsburg from 1977-84. For more than 30 years he was a Primerica Inc. financial services representative in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Abilene and Manhattan, Kansas.

He stayed active in local communities in various roles. While in northwest Kansas Gary served on chamber of commerce committees, Region I emergency medical services board and, along with Dixie, was in the second class of emergency medical technicians in Kansas. He and Dixie served as EMTs in Hoxie and Phillipsburg. Gary was also a rural fire chief in Hoxie. He was active in Missouri Synod Lutheran churches in various roles.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie, of the home; his four sons, Mark (Michele), of Wamego; Mike (Angie), of Hutchinson; Dave, of Dodge City; and Dan (Monica) of Hutchinson; 11 grandchildren Paige (Ryan), Petey (Samantha), Preston (Becca), Brock (Sarah), Elissa, Olivia, Frank, J.J., Eli, Andrew, Isabella; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rex Bergmeier.

Gary’s wishes were to be cremated. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4801 Anderson Ave., Manhattan, KS 66503.&nbsp; A memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at the church. After a light family luncheon, burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Wakefield.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Lutheran Hour Ministries, or the donor’s choice. They may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

 </figure>Gary Francis Bergmeier, 85, Manhattan, died on February 3, 2023, after a short illness in Stoneybrook Long Term Care Manhattan, Kansas.He was born April 1, 1937, the son of Frank and Evelyn (Budden) Bergmeier, in rural Wakefield, Kansas.Gary graduated from Wakefield Rural High School with the Class of 1955. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Kansas State University in 1959.He married Dixie Lee Sherbert on June 1, 1958, at the home of Bill and Lela Auld in Wakefield. Gary worked for the John Deere Company from 1964-71, mostly based in Colby, Kansas, then was a co-owner in a farm equipment dealership in Hoxie from 1971-77 and owner of a dealership in Phillipsburg from 1977-84. For more than 30 years he was a Primerica Inc. financial services representative in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Abilene and Manhattan, Kansas.He stayed active in local communities in various roles. While in northwest Kansas Gary served on chamber of commerce committees, Region I emergency medical services board and, along with Dixie, was in the second class of emergency medical technicians in Kansas. He and Dixie served as EMTs in Hoxie and Phillipsburg. Gary was also a rural fire chief in Hoxie. He was active in Missouri Synod Lutheran churches in various roles.He is survived by his wife, Dixie, of the home; his four sons, Mark (Michele), of Wamego; Mike (Angie), of Hutchinson; Dave, of Dodge City; and Dan (Monica) of Hutchinson; 11 grandchildren Paige (Ryan), Petey (Samantha), Preston (Becca), Brock (Sarah), Elissa, Olivia, Frank, J.J., Eli, Andrew, Isabella; and six great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rex Bergmeier.Gary’s wishes were to be cremated. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4801 Anderson Ave., Manhattan, KS 66503.&nbsp; A memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at the church. After a light family luncheon, burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery in Wakefield.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Lutheran Hour Ministries, or the donor’s choice. Gary Francis Bergmeier

Angie Fryer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend and community volunteer, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2022, five days short of her 82nd birthday, at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas. She is survived by her husband, Tom Fryer of Manhattan, Kansas; daughter, Trudy Divine, of Liberty, Missouri; son, Wesley Fryer of Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as seven grandchildren. Angie is also survived by her brother, Ron Henley, of Austin, Texas, and Puerto Rican son, Daniel Olivera, of Aibonito. Grandchildren include Connor, Ethan, Gage, Cole, Alex, Sarah and Rachel.

Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, Angie lived a life dedicated to family, education, and community service. She was a graduate of Trinity College in San Antonio, where she earned a degree in elementary education, as well as Arizona State University, where she earned a Masters degree in Special Education. Angie, or “Nana” as she was known to her family, was an amazing gourmet chef, a tireless community volunteer, and dedicated member of her church family as well as PEO sisterhood.

Angie married her husband, Tom Fryer, in 1968, and together they lived a life of adventure, living in 6 different states and building a family while Tom served in the US Air Force. In 1981, Angie and Tom moved to Manhattan, Kansas, for Tom’s final duty assignment in ROTC at Kansas State University, and decided Manhattan was the perfect community to stay in and put down deep roots.

In the late 1980s, Angie served as “The Military Visitor” at First Presbyterian Church of Manhattan, connecting with the spouses (mostly wives) of soldiers stationed at nearby Fort Riley, Kansas, and offering both support and networking assistance as they raised kids and worked to support their own families in a multitude of ways.

During the 1990 Gulf War, Angie helped coordinate “Project Manhattan Cares” initiative for Fort Riley families and soldiers, facilitating a diverse array of support and care initiatives in the Manhattan community by both individuals and organizations. Angie was always a faithful and empathetic volunteer at church, in community organizations like AFS, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, as well as in schools and PEO.

Angie will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her, but her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will live on through her family and the countless lives she touched during her time on earth.

A Celebration of Angie’s Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 18th, at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, with a luncheon to follow. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Air Force Academy Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO.

In lieu of flowers at the Memorial Service and in memory of Angie, her family requests that donations be made to either “Hand UP Grants” (HUGs) administered by the Fairy Godmothers, the PEO Chapter DE, The Meadowlark Hills Foundation, or Providence Place of San Antonio, Texas. Angie Fryer

Joyce Evelyn Keith passed away February 4, 2023, at the age of 91. She 
was born March 13, 1931, in Greensburg, KS to Olie James Hubert and Ione 
Phillips Hubert. Joyce married Billie D. Chadd, August 8, 1951. Bill 
died June 8, 1997. Joyce married James R. Keith December 18, 1999. Jim 
died February 27, 2022. Joyce graduated from Greensburg High School
 in 1949. After attending beauty college, she began her entrepreneurial 
career as a beautician. She went on to open a women’s clothing store in 
Greensburg and another in Pratt. Joyce assisted with the Miss Kansas 
pageant for many years by providing clothing, advice and support to the 
contestants and pageant planners. The highlight of this era was 
attending the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City. Joyce also served 
as President of the Pratt Area Chamber of Commerce and was a member of 
Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Following her career in retail, Joyce 
became office manager at Pratt Livestock until retiring in the late 
1990s. Joyce married JIm in 1999 and they spent many happy years at the 
farm near Greensburg where she grew up. In 2005 when Greensburg was 
destroyed by a tornado, Joyce and Jim immediately volunteered to help. 
Joyce was a maverick with an infectious smile and affable personality 
who always made others feel loved. Joyce is survived by a brother, 
Gene Hubert of McPherson, KS, three sons, Steve (Janet) Chadd, Wichita, 
Troy (Stephanie) Chadd, Goddard, and Tracy (Darcy) Chadd, Council Grove;
 grandchildren and great grandchildren, Brandon (Kortney) Chadd, and 
children Zac &amp; Maleia, Wichita, Brooke Chadd, and children Xander 
&amp; Tymber, Wichita, Jessica (Justin) Lies, and children Josephine, 
Jayna, Jaxon and Judson, Colwich, KS, Dr. Julia Emberson, Wichita, Laura
 (Logan) Hayes, and children Emmylou &amp; Reverie, Wichita, Garrett 
Chadd, Wichita, Courtney (Joshua) Gfeller and children, Hadley &amp;

Joyce Evelyn Keith

Howard Earl Spencer, 50, joined the Lord for eternal joy on February 
3, 2023. He was born to Vertie Lee Spencer on October 13, 1972, in 
Jacksonville, Texas.

Howard spent his younger years growing up in the rural area of 
Jacksonville, Texas, where he played sports for the Jacksonville High 
School, graduating in 1991. He was recruited by Southwestern College in 
Winfield, Kansas, for his outstanding scholarship in the classroom and 
his exceptional football skills on the defensive line. After graduating 
from Southwestern College with a Bachelors of History and Health PE 
Recreation, he continued his education at Kansas State University, 
receiving his Master’s Degree of Science in Special Education. He began 
teaching Special Education in the Manhattan, KS High School. In 2004, 
Howard settled in Dodge City, KS where he taught Special Education at 
the Middle School level. Howard also served the Dodge City community 
through his employment at Arrowhead West, Inc and Youthville. Howard was
 employed at the Comanche Middle School at the time of his passing.

Howard was a long-time member of the Dodge City Church of the 
Nazarene where he facilitated a support group for hurting people, and 
was very involved with the youth group. He loved Jesus, and also Texas 
football. He had a great sense of humor and had patience for days. 
During his football years, Howard was very involved with the Fellowship 
of Christian Athletes. Along his path, Howard touched so many lives 
through the care he showed,and the love of Jesus he gave, to everyone he
 encountered. He was always ready with a word of encouragement, and his 
words always built up those around him. No matter what life situations 
came his way, he always remained a pleasure to be around and continued 
to give his life for the benefit of others.In his spare time, Howard was
 a very avid reader and enjoyed watching sports, especially football. He
 was also a history buff, as one of the passions of his studies was 
history.

Howard was preceded in death by his mother, Vertie Lee Spencer, and 
his grandmother, Sally Emma Stewart. Howard will be deeply missed in his
 communities as a brother, a friend, a mentor, an encourager, a 
motivator, a protector, a teacher, and a role model. He leaves a large 
footprint on our hearts and inspiration within us for how to love those 
we meet.

The Memorial service for Howard Earl Spencer will be held at Dodge 
City Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 10:30 
A.M. A reception will follow. There will be no visitation as cremation 
has taken place. &nbsp;

William H. “Bill” Meyers of Lake Wales, Fla., passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Forsythe Hospice House in Auburndale.

He was born February 5, 1939, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the late Glen and
 Sylvia Meyers; he moved to Lake Wales from Ohio in 2002. Bill was a 
retired welder for the Department of Defense and Tropicana. He was a 
veteran of the United States Marine Corps and of the Baptist faith. Bill
 was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, and American Legion in 
Portsmouth, Ohio. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Bill was a past 
referee for high school football and basketball and college basketball. 
He enjoyed traveling and dancing, especially the jitterbug.

Bill was proceeded in death by his 11 brothers and sisters. He is 
survived by his wife of 22 years, Sara Meyers; daughters, Sylvia Lewis 
of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Paula Moseley and husband Troy of Junction 
City, Kansas; step-daughter, Jan Corrin of Charlottsville, Virginia; 
sister, Hazeldean Meyers of Portsmouth; six grandchildren; and two 
great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thanks to
 Sharon for her loving care.

No services are scheduled at this time. Inurnment will take place at 
Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, memorial
