Donna E. (Stephenson) McCallum, 87, passed away November 8, 2022 in Wamego, KS. She was born August 14, 1935 in Clements, KS to George and Gladys (Evans) Stephenson.

Donna grew up on a farm in Clements, KS and graduated from Clements High School in 1953.&nbsp; She attended Emporia State University and Cowley County Community College. She married George Daniel McCallum and later divorced. Donna moved to Winfield, KS in 1969 and worked at the Winfield State Hospital and the Winfield Correctional Facility. Retiring after 28 years with the State of Kansas. Donna enjoyed watching sports, crocheting and reading.

Donna is survived by four children: Randy McCallum, Overland Park, KS; Steven McCallum (Vicky), St. George, KS; Suzann Smith (David), Winfield, KS; Tamra Dietrick, Silver Lake, KS: eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters: Bernice Grimmett, Eureka, KS; Linda Scott (Ronnie), Lamar, MO; and Lila Fanning (Danny), Joplin, MO.&nbsp;Donna was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Betty Walker and an infant brother Gerald Stephenson.

Graveside services will be held at the Clements Kansas Cemetery for family at a later date.

Edward Louis Augustine, 87, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, October 26 in Denver, Colorado. Rosary will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Interment will service at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1657-1699 St. Mary’s Rd., Junction City, Kansas. Ed (Eddie, Easy Ed, Sonny) was born September 22, 1935 in Port Chester, New York to Edward J. and Anne (Marciniak) Augustine. He was raised with a large family in Greenwich, Connecticut. When he was 17 he decided to leave home in pursuit of traveling to California. On his way, he stopped in Junction City to visit his Aunt Mary and Uncle Charlie Mathey, who were stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. While he was visiting, he met Darlene, and never made it to California. They were married on October 15, 1956. They were married for 50 years. Darlene passed away August 24, 2007. They raised their 3 children, Edward (Butch), Gladys, and Mike, in Junction City. Ed worked at United Telephone, and then Sprint for many years. After retirement Ed was a regular spectator at many basketball and football games that his grandsons played in, and 4H shooting sports events and musicals that his granddaughters participated in. Additionally he had season tickets to KC Chiefs games for many years. He rarely missed attending a Chiefs game in person or watching Chiefs on TV. He was a Lifetime member of NRA and Kansas State Rifle Association, also serving as a director of KSRA. He was a Kansas Hunter Education Association Instructor for 50 years, a founding member of Geary County Fish and Game, and a 62 year member of Elks. Ed is survived by his daughter Gladys Case of Camdenton, Missouri; son, Mike Augustine (Shari) of Edwardsville, Kansas.; two grandsons, Jake Case (Vanessa), Jered Case (Meghan); two granddaughters, Allison Augustine, Michaela Holley (Joey); three great grandchildren, Ava, Zander, and Ethan; two nieces Susan and Lynn; and great nephew Zachary. Kathleen A. Nemeth, 79, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, November 7, 2022. A graveside service with military honors will be held on at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. (Whitefish) Mattwaoshe in Holton, KS. Kathleen was a proud member of Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation as a full blooded tribal member. She was also an avid bowler, who traveled cross country for tournaments for many years. She also was a member of the Friday night Junction City Bowling League. On June 19, 1964 she married Gyorgy Nemeth, in Crosswicks, NJ, by Justice of the Peace. They renewed vows in Fridberg, Germany, for their 10 year anniversary. They were married for fifty-eight years. Kathleen also dedicated over forty-five years to her civil service career at the Staff Judge Advocate, on Fort Riley military installation in Fort Riley, KS. Kathleen is survived by her loving Husband, Gyorgy of the home; her four daughters, Falene Nemeth of Manhattan, KS, Carroll (Clay) Sesnon of Menlo Park, CA, Gorgina Nemeth of Manhattan, KS, Renee Nemeth of Manhattan, KS; three grand-daughters, Christa Nemeth-Heard, Emma Sesnon, and Adeline Sesnon; and her two sisters, Clarice Broxterman of Topeka, KS, and Ramona "Monie" Micco of Lawrence, KS.

A graveside service with full military honors will take place 10 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. A visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home. Ollie was born December 8, 1948, in Gaffney, South Carolina the daughter of Roy Wade and Arzalea Ellison-Dawkins. Ollie served in the United States Army until her retirement. After retirement, she worked as a Civil Servant at Fort Riley for many years until she retired. On July 23, 1983, she married Joe L. Willis. He passed away October 19, 2020. Survivors include one daughter, Jasmyn L. Willis of Junction City, Kansas; one son, Kelsy Wade of Salina, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Mia Willis, Zaire Griffin, Kelsy Wade, Jr., Threi Shaun Wade-Burnett, Alexis Germann, Xzavrianna Wade and Dontavioun Wade; one sister, Sandra Davis; one brother, Logan Davis. Dr. Steven Ray “Steve” Mosier, DVM, 79,
 Hays, entered Heaven on September 11, 2022, surrounded at the time of 
his passing by family and skilled, caring HaysMed staff.&nbsp; This date fell
 on National Pet Memorial Day.

Steve was born on December 14, 1942, in
 Hoxie, the 10th child of Decker and Lela (Mowry) Mosier, arriving five 
minutes before his twin brother, Stanley Jay.&nbsp; Henceforth and ever known
 as “the twins” by Lela, Decker, and his siblings, they were promptly 
placed in a shoe box to be kept warm in the farmstead oven.&nbsp; Their 
antics would become the stuff of legend throughout their childhood and 
adult years, from a fire lit playing with matches under the bed to 
pretending to be the other brother.

Steve went to Saint Paul school in 
rural Hoxie for six years and then into town for 7th and 8th grade.&nbsp; He 
graduated from Sheridan Community High School in 1960.&nbsp; He placed third 
in state wrestling his junior year and second his senior year, holding 
the flame of Hoxie’s notable wrestling history at a time when Hoxie 
competed with all of Kansas.&nbsp; This talent would serve him later in life,
 as his daughters Karen, Kristen, Karla and Kayleen unanimously recall 
being pinned simultaneously, each under an arm or leg and with no hope 
of escape, during spontaneous family floor wrestling.&nbsp; His 
grandchildren, Ethan, Decker, Isaac, Ben, and Hannah were also met with 
his famous full and half nelsons.&nbsp;

Steve went on to Kansas State 
University and, like four brothers before him, attended the School of 
Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1966.&nbsp; On June 5, 1965, he married 
Linda Louise Ward in Manhattan.&nbsp; Following graduation, Steve and Linda 
moved to Wichita to begin veterinary practice and then on to Aurora, 
Nebraska.&nbsp; From 1967-1969, Steve served in the US Army Veterinary Corps 
and was stationed in St. James, Minnesota.&nbsp; He was responsible for 
inspection of food going to overseas military and was a Survivor’s 
Assistance Officer, personally notifying 16 families regarding their 
fallen loved ones.&nbsp; He also assisted these families in planning funeral 
services.&nbsp; Following his military service there, Steve and Linda 
returned to Wichita in 1969, and then went on to join Hays Veterinary 
Hospital, hired by Dr. &nbsp;Paul McRae, DVM in 1970, choosing Hays because 
it was in-between Linda’s parents in Manhattan and Steve’s in Hoxie.&nbsp; 
Steve became full practice owner in 1995.&nbsp; His practice was purchased by
 Dr. Mark Meier in 2020.&nbsp; Steve thought that Dr. Meier, raised in Hays, 
was the perfect owner for the clinic.

Steve spent 50 of his 57 years in the 
practice of veterinary medicine in Hays.&nbsp; He felt very privileged to be a
 part of the human-animal bond. During his time as a practicing 
veterinarian, he was president of the Kansas Veterinary Medical 
Association in 1992 and received recognition as Kansas Veterinarian of 
the Year in 2000.&nbsp; In 2005, the Mosier family received the Alumni 
Recognition Award from the Kansas State University College of Veterinary
 Medicine.&nbsp; His favorite recognition was the Kansas Veterinary Medical 
Association Lifetime Achievement Award (2016) because it was presented 
to him by friend and colleague, Dr. John Nelson.

Steve’s daughters were all a part of 
his practice in some way while growing up, and his grandchildren 
continued this tradition.&nbsp; Whether riding along on a country call where 
Steve managed to grab a daughter and a diaper while enroute to pull a 
calf or waiting patiently at the grocery store or in the car while Steve
 visited with a client about their livestock or beloved pet, Steve made 
room for his family in his practice, and many memories surround 
experiences there.&nbsp; In the surgery suite, his daughters could be found 
observing the precision of a surgeon, and his ability to suture as 
though conducting a symphony.&nbsp;&nbsp; There were after hours cesarean 
sections, calf deliveries, x-rays and broken bones.&nbsp; The girls were 
happy to assist on night calls, as were his grandchildren.&nbsp; For 
twenty-five years, Kayleen served alongside Steve as his practice 
manager.&nbsp;&nbsp; He accomplished his service through the love and support of 
his wife, Linda, as well.

Steve enjoyed traveling with his 
family, with favorite destinations being to beaches and to the mountains
 of Estes Park.&nbsp; He also held very fond memories of a family trip to 
Scotland in 1999.

Survivors include his wife Linda of 
Hays, four daughters: Karen Nicholson and husband Blake, Kristen Hill 
and husband Christian, Karla DuBois and husband Justin, all of Estes 
Park, CO, and Kayleen Geist and husband Garrett of Hays, three brothers:
 Frank Mosier and wife Joan of Manhattan, Dr. Richard Mosier and wife 
Mary of Claremore, OK, and Dr. Larry Mosier of Sargent, NE, a sister: 
Louise Simcox of Salina, three sisters-in-law: Betty Mosier of 
Manhattan, Bunny Mosier of Cedar Rapids, NE, and Kathy Mosier of 
Wichita, five grandchildren: Blake “Decker”, Ben, and Hannah Nicholson, 
Ethan and Isaac Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, an infant son: Darren Ward Mosier, five brothers: Ben, Dr. 
Jacob, Dr. Ross, Dr. Don, and Dr. Stan Mosier, a sister: Lila Marie 
Fansher and husband Stan, a brother-in-law: Flavel Simcox, two 
sisters-in-law: Joann and Margaret Mosier, and a nephew: Craig Mosier.

Family Inurnment with military honors 
conducted by the Fort Riley Funeral Detail will be on Sunday, September 
18, 2022, in the Hoxie Cemetery followed by a gathering at the family 
farm, Sheephead Ranch.&nbsp; A community Celebration of Steve’s Life will be 
held at 5:00 pm on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Hilton Garden Inn,
 Hays.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Steve managed to grab a daughter and a diaper while enroute to pull a 
calf or waiting patiently at the grocery store or in the car while Steve
 visited with a client about their livestock or beloved pet, Steve made 
room for his family in his practice, and many memories surround 
experiences there.&nbsp; In the surgery suite, his daughters could be found 
observing the precision of a surgeon, and his ability to suture as 
though conducting a symphony.&nbsp;&nbsp; There were after hours cesarean 
sections, calf deliveries, x-rays and broken bones.&nbsp; The girls were 
happy to assist on night calls, as were his grandchildren.&nbsp; For 
twenty-five years, Kayleen served alongside Steve as his practice 
manager.&nbsp;&nbsp; He accomplished his service through the love and support of 
his wife, Linda, as well.Steve enjoyed traveling with his 
family, with favorite destinations being to beaches and to the mountains
 of Estes Park.&nbsp; He also held very fond memories of a family trip to 
Scotland in 1999.Survivors include his wife Linda of

and husband Christian, Karla DuBois and husband Justin, all of Estes

Ron D. Trower, 72, Dallas, Oregon, formerly of Chapman, Kansas, passed away October 15, 2022. Ron was born in Junction City, Kansas on June 15, 1950 to Georgia (Sheek) and Ray C. Trower. He graduated from Chapman High School in 1969. After high school, he attended Salina Area Technical College and subsequently served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Ron was formerly married to Pam (Sanders). In 1991, Ron married Deb (Sheffield). Ron worked as a lineman for KCP&amp;L in Abilene, Kansas but moved to California and later Nevada where he worked for more than 30 years as a lineman for Los Angeles Power and Light, Transmission Division, Henderson Nevada. After retirement from that position, he enjoyed working with his brothers Rodney and Terry at Transformer Disposal Specialists, Inc., in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. He also worked as a truck driver for Kenneth Livingston Trucking, and Everett's Inc., both of Abilene, Kansas for several years before moving to Oregon.

Ron was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and also enjoyed quiet time with a good book. Family and friends will remember Ron as someone who was quick with a smile and a story, particularly over coffee with his brother Terry. Ron loved traveling, and exploring new places. He enjoyed the beauty that can be found outdoors, especially in places like Utah where he traveled often.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Gary, and Rodney Trower. Survivors include his brother Terry (Janet), Enterprise, Kansas; sister Joy Ferguson, Salina, Kansas; sister Gay (Michael) Tedder, Leawood, Kansas; and sister Merry (John) Whitham, Scranton, Kansas. Lois McCulley, 83 of Abilene passed away October 29, 2022 at Enterprise Estates Nursing Home. She was born February 2, 1939 in rural Abilene, the daughter of Solomon Nolan and Eunice Irene (Jahnke) Riffel. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in rural Abilene, Red Hat Society, Avon and the Dixie Doo’s square dancing club. She volunteered at the hospital and enjoyed working in the yard, bird watching, her cats and grandchildren.

 Lois was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Albert and brother, Nolan Riffel. She is survived by her partner, Joe Simpson; her daughters, Cinthia Pitcher of Mesa, Arizona and Ginger Schiefelbein and husband Joe of Topeka, Kansas and sons, Michael McCulley and wife Kathy of Mesa, Arizona and Todd McCulley and wife Ginger of Hope, Kansas. Seven Grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Agnes Eldora (Ellie) Morton was born on November 13, 1939, the daughter of Herman and Mary Mills, and departed this life on October 28, 2022 at Bramlage House, Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community. Ellie had the glory of being raised by her maternal grandmother, Betty Toepffer, from cradle to adulthood. She attended Manhattan public schools through to graduation in 1957.

In 1960, Ellie married the love of her life, B. Laurie Collins, and spent 12 wonderfully happy years with him until his death of a brain hemorrhage. Laurie’s mother, Ursula Collins, was an avid gardener and taught Ellie her true love of the earth. Ellie designed and planted beautiful flower gardens wherever she lived for the rest of her life.

Three years after Laurie’s death, Ellie married Richard Douglas Smith. Richard died of lung cancer in 1982. Eight years later, Ellie married Doyle W. Morton.

A life-long member of First United Methodist Church, Ellie was an active member of the church family. She supported the church in various capacities including Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class, UWF Koinonia Circle, helping in the food pantry, and serving as a Stephen Minister for many years.

Ellie worked for 36 years as a property casualty underwriter at Kansas Farm Bureau. As an avid Kansas State University football fan, she traveled with friends to many bowl games. She also cheered for the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Ellie enjoyed being part of Cloverleaf Swingers square dance club and was a long-time member of Konza Prairie Quilters Guild. An accomplished seamstress, she created many beautiful quilts for her friends and family. She was an active member of Chapter GX, P.E.O. Sisterhood, where her profound faith made her an ideal chaplain.

She is survived by her stepdaughter, Richelle Cooper (Blake), grandchildren Emily Cooper (Scott Komula), Drew Cooper (Samantha), great grandchildren Bella, Davis, and Cash Cooper, and a host of friends.

Her family is holding a celebration of life ceremony at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m.

Joseph (Joe) H. Watson, 74, of Manhattan, passed away early Sunday morning, October 30th, at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri.

Joseph (Joe) Hoit Watson was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on April 7, 1948, the son of Emma Louise (Tharp) Watson, of Port Richie, Florida, and the late Roy Julian Watson. He was united in marriage to Tongta Kookuan at Ft. Riley Chapel, and she survives of their home in Manhattan, Joe was a BS graduate of KSU in History, and he was a retired First Sergeant with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He and Tongta were members of the Blue Valley Memorial United Methodist Church in Manhattan. Joe worked as a Corrections Supervisor at Riley County Police Department. After his retirement, he became a preparer for H&amp;R Block for over 20 yrs. Joe was also active at the American Legion where he loved to play and help with playing bingo

Joseph is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Karen L. Watson, of Manhattan;

a step-son, Kittipong (Kristen) Hunnell, of Prairie Village; two brothers, Keith Watson, of Michigan; Dennis Watson, of Higginsville, Missouri; his grandson, Jace Hunnell, and granddaughter, Jilian Hunnell

Donna L. Linder, 66, of Herington, KS, passed away Friday, October 21st, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital, in Manhattan.

Donna Lee Linder was born in Manhattan, on January 18, 1956, the daughter of Nancy Jane (Dugan) Christner, of Herington, KS and the late Carl F. Linder. She was a graduate of Washburn Rural High School in Topeka and from Wasburn University also of Topeka. She warked at Ft. Riley for the Civil Service.

Donna is survived by her mother, Nancy Christner of Herington; two sons Jade (Amber) Linder, of Weaubleau, Missouri; Chad Griese, of Herington; four sisters, Cathy (Glen) Schwartz, of Alta Vista; Bonnie Bogard, of Champagne, IL; Carla Ann Swartz, of Alta Vista; Terri Brown, of Marion, KS. Linda Sue Maas, 75, of Alma, Kansas, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday (October 30, 2022) following a lengthy illness.

Born September 14, 1947 in Evansville, Indiana, Linda was the daughter of Phillip Leroy and Jessie Mae (Ryals) Brown.&nbsp; Growing up in a military family, her childhood was spent in numerous U. S. states and overseas in Germany.&nbsp; When she was a Sophomore in High School, her family settled down in Volland, Kansas.&nbsp; Linda graduated from Alma High School in 1966.&nbsp; While at school she met Elton T. Maas and the high school sweethearts were married on February 26, 1966.

Linda had been employed for Macy’s Department Store in Topeka, worked as a Librarian in Alma and at the Carey Hatchery in Alma. She also worked at Vanderbilt’s in Wamego, Alternative Health Care in Wamego, was a Para Educator at St. John’s Lutheran School in Alma and retired as the Assistant Curator of the Wabaunsee County Museum in 2018.

An avid reader, Linda also enjoyed solving word search puzzles, playing Solitaire and watching the Hallmark Channel.&nbsp; She will be remembered for cooking and was “famous” for her Fudge, Deviled Eggs and Christmas time sugar cookies.

Survivors include her husband, Elton; two daughers, Krisena Silva (Frank) and Nicole Savage (Michael) both of Alma; three grandchildren, Alexis Queen (David) of Manhattan, KS, Shelby De Leon (Luke) of Twentynine Palms, CA and Kyle Savage (Kylie) of Havelock, N. C.; a great grandson, baby De Leon, due in April, 2023; two sisters, Joyce Allen of Manhattan, KS and Rita Andersen of Emporia, KS; a brother in law, John Carey; and many nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her step father, George Walls; her sister, Phyllis Carey; and two brothers in law, Bill Allen and Mike Andersen.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Alma.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday morning (November 9, 2022) at 11:00 in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alma with the Reverend Robert Grimm officiating.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday evening (November 8, 2022) from 6:00 to 8:00 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alma.

She then obtained her Elementary Education teaching degree from Kansas State University and graduated in December of 2002. She taught third grade at Fort Riley Elementary for 17 years. Ginny was fully devoted to God, her husband, her family, and her friends. She invested heavily in their lives. She enjoyed fishing, baking cakes, cooking, sewing, teaching children’s church and making memories with grandchildren. She was a long-time member of the Church of the Nazarene. Johanna C. Slinger, age 87 of Manhattan, passed away Monday, October 24, 2022 in the Stolzer House at Meadowlark Hills.

She was born on August 25, 1935 in Amsterdam, Holland, the daughter of Fok and Johanna Knoppert.

On February 1, 1958 in Amsterdam, Holland, she was married to Andries Slinger, Jr.&nbsp; He preceded her in death in 2016.

Johanna was a jack of all trades, working in a variety of positions with different companies.&nbsp; She was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.&nbsp; She enjoyed being outdoors, camping, fishing, planting or just watching the birds.&nbsp; She loved all animals and spending time with her grandchildren, friends, family, and all holidays or events.&nbsp; Most of all she loved her breakfast and morning coffee with her daughter and their times together.

She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Britt of Riley; four grandchildren, Keisha Strecker (Neil), Matthias Sherwood (Sarah), Jessica Walker (Christopher) and Patrick Sherwood (Devan); seven great grandchildren, Clayton and Blaise Strecker, Grant, Maci and Oliver Sherwood, Serenity and Peacelyn Walker, and Keira and Xander Sherwood; and four sisters, Alice Hoole (Rudolph), Mariann Venetz (Gregor), Ellis Knoppert, and Anja Hatch (David).

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Andre’ Knoppert and Fronce Van Putten, and brother-in-law, Jelle deBoer.

Cremation is planned with a Celebration of Life to be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 9, 2022 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Judy L. Hearp, 89 of Clay Center, died October 29, 2022 at her residence.&nbsp; She was born on April 19, 1933 in Herington, Kansas, the daughter of James and Marjorie (Emory) Hankerson.&nbsp;

Judy grew up in Herington, graduating from Herington High School in 1951.&nbsp; She married George Sauer in 1950 and he preceded her in death in February of 1972.&nbsp; She then married Edward Hearp in December of 1973.&nbsp; The couple moved to Oklahoma in 1976 where Judy worked in food service at Oklahoma State Univesrity for over 20 years before her retirement.&nbsp; Edward would precede her in death in 1997. &nbsp;Judy moved to Clay Center in April of 2020.&nbsp; She is also preceded by her parents and granddaughter, Kirsten Lou Hearp.

Survivors include her 3 sons, Brandon and wife, Stacie Hearp of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Steve Sauer of North Platte, Nebraska, and Robert and wife, Tammy Sauer of Glencoe, Oklahoma; daughter, Rhonda Wallace of Clay Center, Kansas; 4 grandchildren, Jolene Istas, Andrew Sauer, Logan Hearp and Lawson Hearp and 2 great grandchildren, Kjanae and Kaveon Istas.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 7, 2022 at the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Herington, Kansas.

James Orin Rick (72) formerly of Niles, Kansas, went to heaven on October 22, 2022, in Manhattan, KS, after battling emphysema for more than 7 years.

He was born December 9, 1949, in Omaha, NE, to James and Marie Rick. After moving around the country, the family settled in Salina, KS, where he attended Roosevelt-Lincoln Jr. High and Salina High (class of '68), and Kansas Weslyan. He enlisted in the Marines during the Viet Nam War and served for four years. He was part owner of a bar until he was injured in an auto accident. He met and married Lori Dahl in 1979. Jim worked for several manufacturing plants in Salina before moving his family to Texas where he was a supervisor for a trailer hitch company in Alvarado. After several years in Texas, the family moved back to Kansas and settled in Niles.

Jim loved spending time with friends and family. Family camping and fishing trips, working in the yard, taking care of his roses, refinishing furniture, and playing Farkle and poker with friends were the things he most enjoyed.

Jim leaves behind Lori and four children, Paul (Martha) Jackson of Colorado and children Bryan and Victoria, Leslie (Kyle) Waring of Florida and children Logan, Hannah, Riley, Maggy, Willow, Stella and Hayden, Jesse Rick of Niles and children, Nalo, Carter, Emalyn and Jesse, Toni Sims of Solomon and children Zoe, Kaiser, and Trajan; and 6 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie Rick, and sisters Dawn (Doug) Robinson and Shelia Green. He is survived by two sisters, Coleen (Joe) Beck and Roxanne (Tony) Hornberger, three brothers, Shawn (Lita) Rick; Kevin (Trisha) Rick; and Kelly Rick, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Susan Jane Brouk, age 58, of Little Rock, AR, died October 26, 2022, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan, KS.

She was born December 26, 1963, in Washington, Missouri, the daughter of William Anthony and Patricia Arlene (Moore) Brouk.

Susan graduated high school at Linn, MO and earned her B.S. in secondary education/home economics – cum laude and M.S. in Public Administration from the University of Missouri at Columbia. She was a certified teacher.

She had worked at the University of Missouri – Columbia in Minority Student Services; at Warrenton, MO, Booneslick Regional Planning Commission - Program Administrator; at Moberly, MO, Moberly Area Community College - Director of Technical Education Programs; at Parsons, KS, Labette Community College - Director of Technical Education; and at Little Rock, AR, - Arkansas Department of Health - Performance and Accreditation Manager.

Susan enjoyed her pets, dogs and cats, cooking and baking, gardening, time with family and friends and working with young people. The last few years, she enjoyed the community of Little Rock and her involvement in The Church at Rock Creek.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother Michael Patrick.

Survivors include her two brothers: William Brouk and his wife Cynthia of Lincoln, MO, and Micheal Brouk and his wife Michelle of Manhattan, KS; and seven nieces and nephews: Matthew, Sarah, Megan, Morgan, Miranda, Matthias and Marissa. She also enjoyed getting to know her four grandnephews and two grandnieces.

Cremation is planned with private family services.

Jo Ann Malone Anderson, age 81, of Manhattan, died October 26, 2022, at the Good Shepherd Homecare &amp; Hospice House.

She was born August 27, 1941, in Wytheville, Virginia, the daughter of Frank and Leone (Sutherland) Malone.

Jo Ann graduated from the Alexandria School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She served in the United States Army Nursing Corps as a Captain from December 1963 to March 1968. She received the National Defense Service Medal. Following her military service, Jo Ann worked as a RN and Nursing Consultant for various hospitals in the Nashville, then Boston area.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan.

On October 27, 1967, at Fort Knox, Kentucky, she was married to John L. Anderson, Jr. John survives of the home. Additional survivors include their three daughters: Suzanne McNeil and her husband Patrick of Windsor, CT, Jennifer Anderson and Ashley Anderson both of Manhattan; two grandchildren: Samantha and T.J. McNeil; and two siblings: Karen Martin (Woody) of Roanoke, VA, and Kevin Malone (Kristin) of Absecon, NJ.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Joyce Rolen.

Jo Ann Malone Anderson

Update:&nbsp; Richard Stephen McCauley II was born in Houston, Texas on March 30th, 1983, and passed unexpectedly into eternity on October 18th, 2022, at the age of 39.

He moved with his family from Houston to Manhattan, Kansas when he was in 3rd&nbsp;grade and spent most of the remainder of his life in the Manhattan area.

Richard graduated from Manhattan High School with the class of 2001. He was a talented drummer, a devoted friend, and an adventurous soul. Richard loved deeply and had many lifelong friends who will miss his unique sense of humor and his love for music.

As a child he was active in Cub Scouts, acting, musical performance, and little league baseball. Richard was a loving and articulate child who knew how to start a conversation with nearly everyone he met.

He married Jerri (Hogue) Keith in 2013 and from that former marriage, he is survived by his daughter Alexa Keith. His Father Richard S. McCauley, Mother Stacey (Blaker) Rogers, his stepfather Jason Rogers, brothers Greg, Mike, Austin, &amp; Jon McCauley, as well as a stepbrother Jake Rogers survive him. He also leaves behind his paternal grandmother Jean McCauley, and maternal grandmother Eleanor Blaker.&nbsp; He will also be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

His beloved grandfathers, Dick McCauley and John Blaker preceded him in passing.

A private memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Manhattan, Kansas on December 10, 2022, at 11 am.

His ashes will be interred at a later date with his beloved “Papa” in Wayzata, Minnesota.

Update:&nbsp; Richard Stephen McCauley II was born in Houston, Texas on March 30th, 1983, and passed unexpectedly into eternity on October 18th, 2022, at the age of 39.He moved with his family from Houston to Manhattan, Kansas when he was in 3rd&nbsp;grade and spent most of the remainder of his life in the Manhattan area.Richard graduated from Manhattan High School with the class of 2001. He was a talented drummer, a devoted friend, and an adventurous soul. Richard loved deeply and had many lifelong friends who will miss his unique sense of humor and his love for music.As a child he was active in Cub Scouts, acting, musical performance, and little league baseball. Richard was a loving and articulate child who knew how to start a conversation with nearly everyone he met.He married Jerri (Hogue) Keith in 2013 and from that former marriage, he is survived by his daughter Alexa Keith. His Father Richard S. McCauley, Mother Stacey (Blaker) Rogers, his stepfather Jason Rogers, brothers Greg, Mike, Austin, &amp; Jon McCauley, as well as a stepbrother Jake Rogers survive him. He also leaves behind his paternal grandmother Jean McCauley, and maternal grandmother Eleanor Blaker.&nbsp; He will also be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.His beloved grandfathers, Dick McCauley and John Blaker preceded him in passing.A private memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Manhattan, Kansas on December 10, 2022, at 11 am.His ashes will be interred at a later date with his beloved “Papa” in Wayzata, Minnesota.

Terry Lynn (Niedfeldt) Shoe of Wamego Kansas went home to be with God on October 29th, 2022.&nbsp; Terry passed peacefully at Via Christi Village.

Terry was born April 5, 1954, in Westmoreland, Kansas, to Marvin and Dorthy (Strimple) Niedfeldt. Terry grew up in the Wells Creek community and was a 1972 Wamego High School graduate.&nbsp; It was in high school where she met her blue-eyed hubby, Richard Shoe.

Terry and Richard were married in 1972.&nbsp; It was from this union that they had two kids, James and Michelle.

Terry was a lifelong member of the Wells Creek Community Church.

Terry worked as a homemaker and then worked for several years in Housing and Dining as a custodian at Kansas State University until retirement.&nbsp;

Terry enjoyed her church family and was a part of many church committees over the years, including teaching Sunday School and leading the Youth Group in her younger years. Terry really enjoyed being around her family and enjoyed game nights. Her biggest joy in life was the birth of her kids, grandson, nephews, and nieces. She enjoyed spending time with her best buddy and grandson, Bensyn. Her other joys included traveling, taking vacations with her husband, and going to zoos. She had a love for animals, especially her little dachshunds.

Proceeded in death by her Mom and Dad, brothers, Jimmy and Kevin, sister-in-law, Connie Niedfelt, and son, James Shoe.

Survivors of the home, husband Richard "Rick" Shoe, Wamego, Ks. Along with their little dachshund Sophie, daughter Michelle (Ben) Broky, Perry, Ks, and grandson Bensyn Broky. Two brothers, Randy Niedfeldt Belvue, Ks and Dwayne Niedfeldt, Wamego, Ks. Several nieces and nephews, whom she felt as her own, too.

Terry Lynn (Niedfeldt) Shoe

Lee Aaron Clark, age 74, died on October 26, 2022, at his home. He was born in Junction City, KS on April 20, 1948, the son of Aaron Wesley and Gladys Lucille (Mann) Clark.

When he was young his parents and four brothers moved to Palmdale, CA where they resided until his junior year of high school before moving back to Kansas.&nbsp; He graduated from St. George high school in the class of 1967.

Lee was united in marriage at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Flush, on September 17, 1971, to Cynthia Sue Heptig, and just celebrated their 51st&nbsp;&nbsp;wedding anniversary. Through this union, they were blessed with three children, Michelle, Tony, and Paul.

He proudly served in the US Navy from 1967 until 1969 during the Vietnam War, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, followed by six years in the reserves.&nbsp; Following military service, he worked as an apprentice while attending night classes, earning his Journeyman &amp; Master Sheetmetal license. He was a member of the International Sheetmetal Workers union and ended his career retiring from Kansas State University facilities. Lee also had a passion following his father’s footsteps, raising watermelons and other produce for over 40 years.&nbsp; He marketed them to grocery stores and warehouses throughout northeast Kansas and southern Nebraska. &nbsp;

Lee had many interests and hobbies, including fishing, hunting, trapping &amp; golfing.&nbsp; He was a proud grandfather and loved spending time with his grandchildren and taking them fishing. He also enjoyed driving his corvette or motorcycle, hunting for morel mushrooms, cutting firewood, and clearing timber on his land.&nbsp; He was also a 4th-degree&nbsp;member of the Flush Knights of Columbus Council #902.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Clark, children; Michelle (Doug) Davidson, Tony (Jennifer) Clark, and Paul (Megan) Clark; 8 grandchildren: Aaron &amp; Katlynne Davidson, Kendall, Keegan, Brandt, Addilyn, Berklee, &amp; Locklyn Clark, brothers Jim Clark and Tom Clark, &nbsp;Heptig brothers and sisters-in-law: Pat, Kathy, Mike, Larry, Debbie, Bob, Ed, Mary, Kevin, Todd, Lisa &amp; Amy; Clark sister-in-law, Judy Oppenlander, and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Marvin Oppenlander, and Daniel Clark.

Barbara Lou Salzman, 87, of Milford, Kansas passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City, Kansas. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held November 7, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church. Pastor Will Ravenstein will officiate. Inurnment will take place in Illinois. Barbara was born on February 6, 1935, in Lincoln, Kansas to Lyle and Louise (Marshall) Gorton. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Barbara graduated from Marymount School of Nursing in Salina, Kansas in 1956. She worked as a Psychiatric Nurse at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan, Illinois. After moving to Kansas she worked at Valley View Senior Life Nursing Home. She also worked as a home health nurse for a couple years. On September 30, 1956, she married Ervin 'Jack' Salzman. They were married for 64 years. Jack passed away on June 8, 2021. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Don) Stevens of Milford, Kansas; four sons, Steven (Renee) Salzman of Randolph, Kansas, Allen (Kathy) Salzman of Falun, Kansas, David (Sumae) Salzman of Wichita, Kansas, and Robert (Judy) Salzman of Wheeling, Illinois; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Janice Rae (Zolck) Boan passed away surrounded by family in Frankfort, Kansas on Monday,&nbsp;October 24th&nbsp;at the age of 79.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jan was born on&nbsp;July 15th, 1943&nbsp;to John &amp; Rita (Ring) Zolck in Council Bluffs, Iowa.&nbsp;&nbsp;Most of her childhood was spent in Neola, Iowa and she graduated from Underwood High School in 1960.

Jan married Gary Lee Boan on&nbsp;February 1st, 1964&nbsp;and her life was changed forever.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Their first child Christine Lynn was born one year later followed by Kimberly Rae.&nbsp;&nbsp;Their 3rd and 4th attempts for a boy welcomed daughters Connie Jo and Amy Marie.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jan was employed at Mutual of Omaha, Brandeis, Ashland State Bank and Fricke &amp; Associates (Realtor). She entered a life of service as a business partner to Gary in all businesses owned and operated by them.&nbsp;&nbsp;Family favorite businesses include the Sugar &amp; Spice Daycare, Buffalo City, Hidden Timbers Ranch, Boan Investigations, The Dairy Cone, Country Market, Boan Construction, Country Liquor, Ashland Car Wash, Flagstop Resort and RV Park and Boan Land &amp; Cattle.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Over the years their family grew and Jan took great pride in their 4 girls, 4 sons-in-law, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Throughout their many exciting adventures their lives were filled with many friends that Jan would welcome with open arms to any Thanksgiving, Christmas Dinner, or&nbsp;4th of July&nbsp;shenanigans.&nbsp;&nbsp;She loved making enough food to literally feed an army, decorating for&nbsp;Christmas, and rocking any baby she could.&nbsp;

Jan was proceeded in death by her mother, Rita Zolck, father, John Zolck, mother-in-law, Nelda Boan, father-in-law, Jim Boan, brothers-in-law Kenny Boan and Joe Boan, and grandson, Monte McWilliams.

She will be deeply missed by her husband Gary Boan of Blue Rapids, KS; daughters Chris (Steve) Gress and Amy (Josh) Clark both of Ashland, NE; Kim (Jeff) Wagner of Blue Rapids, KS and Connie (Randy) McWilliams of Waterville, KS; grandchildren, Ashley (Luke) Strehle, Jessica (Dan) Manion, Rob (Clare) Gress, Riley Wagner, Dylan Wagner, Tyler Wagner, Haley (Drew) Figueroa, Nate McWilliams, Cooper McWilliams, Jack Clark, Luke Clark and Kate Clark; great-grandchildren Clayton, Brecken, Sutton, Brynn, Lainey, Brody, Mason, Kohen &amp; Ellie.&nbsp;&nbsp;Brother Dennis (Nancy) Zolck of Arlington,NE; brother-in-law Buell (Vie) Boan of Omaha, NE, sister-in-law Margaret Boan of Ashland, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp;Additionally, Jan was loved by many nieces and nephews who will miss their “Aunt Jan” so much.&nbsp;

Janice Rae (Zolck) Boan

Jean Francis Hyde, age 77, a longtime area resident, died October 23, 2022, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born July 16, 1945, in Hardin County, Kentucky, the daughter of Stanley and Eva Marie (Allan) Hyde.

Jean graduated from St. George High School in 1963 and then later earned her bachelors from Kansas State University. She moved to Topeka in 2000.

She served from 1968 to 1977 in the United States Army as a Specialist 5, during the Vietnam War.

Jean was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and the National Humane Society. She enjoyed arts and crafts, riding motorcycles and was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Wayne and Donald Hyde.

Survivors include her two nephews: Jarod and Justin Hyde; and four nieces: Debra Ritchie, Cathy Thornton, Diane Ukena and Barbara Elder; and many friends and extended family.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 1st, at the Valley View Memorial Park east of Manhattan.

Steven W. Zadina, age 59, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Saturday October 22, 2022.

He was born on January 9, 1963 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Darus “Bud” and Marjory Zadina. He grew up in Beloit and graduated with the Beloit High School Class of 1981. He attended Kansas State University and worked with the Collegian Newspaper and on the KSU Yearbook.

Steven worked for over 30 years for Nelson’s Poultry Farm in Manhattan. He enjoyed going to work, doing landscaping, gardening and growing fresh vegetables. When there were family events or gatherings Steven loved to grill or cooking and made sure there was plenty for all.

He was the family “mr.fix it”, the handyman for all things that needed fixed. Steven was the one that was the reacher of tall things guy for his family. He had a great sense of humor, loved poking fun and teasing his great nephew and great niece.

Steven was fun, humorous, always there and hard working efforts, will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father Bud Zadina.

Survivors include his mother, Marjory Zadina, of Beloit, Kansas; his sisters, Cindy Schoen, of Neosho, Missouri and Vicki Humiston, of Hutchinson, Kansas; and also his niece Kenda Brewster, of Atlanta, Georgia; great-nephew Zaden Brewster and great-niece Zalie Brewster, both of Garden Plain, Kansas.

A Celebration Gathering for Steven will be held on Saturday October 29, 2022 from 9:00a.m. until 11:00a.m. at the Green Valley Community Center, 3770 Green Valley Road in Manhattan.

A Memorial Service will also be held at a later date in Beloit, Kansas.

Steven W. Zadina, age 59, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Saturday October 22, 2022.He was born on January 9, 1963 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Darus “Bud” and Marjory Zadina. He grew up in Beloit and graduated with the Beloit High School Class of 1981.
