Fred was born in Coffeyville, KS on January 7, 1949 to John Henry Lips, Jr and Iris Christina (Olson) Lips Crawford. He passed away September 28, 2022 at Meadowlark Hills Riley House Retirement Community in Riley, KS at the age of 73.

He was raised in Coffeyville where he attended Coffeyville Grade School, Roosevelt Junior High, graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School in 1967. Fred earned a degree in Computer Programming in 1971 from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS. He was a computer analyst and COBOL programmer from 1971 - 2012 starting his career in Kansas City, KS working for Gambles and moving to Plymouth, MN in 1986 working first for Red Owl Foods then SuperValue Foods. Fred moved to Manhattan, KS in the fall of 2018 to be closer to family.

Fred had many hobbies through the years including woodworking, trains, flags, coin collecting and music. In college he was a sound/light technician for a band called the Rising Sun. His love for music has a legacy with donations to the Music In Plymouth Endowment Fund as well as a Pittsburg State University Music Scholarship in his name. Fred also has a Computer Science Information Systems Scholarship Endowment at Pittsburg State University.

Another passion Fred had was being a long-time volunteer for the Jefferson High School Boys Swim and Dive Team (Bloomington, MN). He was the ‘official’ timer for Lane 6 and never missed a swim meet.

In retirement he was a long-time volunteer for the City of Plymouth for the Information Technology and Adopt-A-Park programs. Fred was recognized in the fall of 2015 as a ‘Volunteer of the Quarter’.

Fred always made it home to the family farm in Bartlett, KS for the wheat harvest in June and Christmas. He was extremely close to his brother Stan Lips who preceded him in death and sister-in-law Marty Lips of Manhattan, KS. Fred is also survived by his three nieces Lori (Mark) Schramm of The Colony, TX, Jan (Marshall) Streeter of Cheyenne, WY and Amy (Mack) Terrapin of Alma, KS, his step-sister, Sharon (Crawford) Brown of Prairie Village, KS, six great-nieces and nephews, Brooke (Phill) Wilson, Layne (Alex) Miles, Nick (Brooke) Terrapin, Alli Terrapin, Claire Streeter and Lauren Streeter and four great-great nieces and nephews, Reid and Blaire Wison and Henry and Kate Miles.

Private family graveside services will be held at the Lake Creek Union Cemetery, Barlett, Kansas.

Martha A. Miller, age 85, of Manhattan, died September 26, 2022, at Meadowlark Hills – Stolzer House, where she had been a resident for four days. She had suffered from dementia and then neuropathy for the past year. She leaves behind her husband Mike, her two sons Clay (wife Jan) and Kyle, all in the Dallas area, and a granddaughter Emily, attending UNT in Denton, TX.

Martha was born on February 23, 1937, in the family home in California, MO, the daughter of Fowler and Dorothy (Stark) Young. By the time she was in 6th grade the family had moved 8 times always living on a ranch where her father was employed as a ranch manager. This took the family from Missouri, to Oklahoma, to the mountains of Colorado where she became a skier, learned to groom show calves, and helped herd cattle to the free range in the summer. And learned to whistle very loudly through her front teeth – a talent that came in handy in later years when she was called forward to get the attention of a large gathering. The family then returned to Missouri where they lived in Liberty. Martha was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Fowler A. Young.

After graduating from Liberty High School, she attended the University of Missouri where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. After earning a BS in 1959, she headed to Iowa State to attend graduate school. While at Iowa State she met her future husband Mike. Shortly after receiving her MS degree in 1960, they were married in Liberty and then moved to Manhattan where Mike was on the faculty of Kansas State University. Not finished with education she returned to school and received a PhD in Adult and Continuing Education from Kansas State University – at age 57!

Martha was very active in volunteer and social activities. She was a strong supporter of the arts, and was an early supporter of the Beach Museum of Art where she was a long-time member of the Friends of the Beach and past president. Martha was also a long-time member of Town and Country Garden Club, where she worked to beautify City Park, Sunset Zoo, and several city sites with plants and flowers. As an enthusiastic day lily grower her yards were covered with many varieties. People strolling by would frequently stop and ask if it would be alright for them to come in and tour the yard.

Supporting education became very important to her – both for her and for others. She served as PTA president for two different schools. She was a member of the local USD 383 School Board for 12 years, twice serving as president. She served as Region 4 Vice President of the Kansas Association of School Boards and later as President of the state organization. She made many presentations, and led clinics and seminars at state and national conventions. She was on the Board of Directors of the National School Board Association, leading clinics on three occasions at national conventions.

Martha had an educational consulting business. Martha Miller and Associates, that focused on governance education and superintendent selection. She assisted schools in the state in candidate screening and final selection.

Martha loved to travel. Not long after arriving in Manhattan they purchased a camper that took them to almost every state and all across Canada. When the boys were grown and had interfering activities, somehow camping wasn’t quite as much fun without them, so the camper and big station wagon were sold. After retirement, travels took them to many countries, Italy was always a favorite particularly Tuscany and the Cinque Terre areas. Further travels to South America, to the far east China, Thailand, and the Philippines were also favorites. Finally, their trips took them to Oaxaca, Mexico, where they enjoyed spending the winter months for about 14 years.

A Celebration of Martha’s Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 8th, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 700 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan.

Jack Lee Mugrage, Jr., known to some as Lee passed away September 25, 2022 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas, with his wife by his side.&nbsp;

He was born July 8, 1965 in Marietta, Ohio, son of Jack Lee Sr. and Lynn Elizabeth (Guckert) Mugrage. Jack was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy in his teenage years, despite the struggles it brought, he chose to do his best to live life.

Shortly after Jack’s birth, his family moved to Rancho, California where he spent his childhood, graduating from Rancho Alamitos High School in 1984. He enjoyed fishing, working with his hands, and&nbsp;classic cars. Around the late eighties Jack moved to Manhattan, where he worked for nine years at&nbsp;Regulator Time Company repairing clocks mostly for schools until his health prevented continuing.&nbsp; During most of those years, he had many fond memories with his good friend Joe Sexton, attending drag and boat races, fishing, and just hanging out together doing projects around his house.

Jack married Melinda Sue Armstrong on August 12, 1995, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were married 27 years, living entirely in Manhattan; they enjoyed family gatherings, card games,&nbsp;movies, car racing, fishing, and rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas State Wildcat football. Jack&nbsp;also enjoyed working on computers, playing video games and online games with friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Jack Lee Sr.; father-in-law, Clyde Ancel&nbsp;Armstrong; and sister-in-law, Patrice Ann Rogge.

Virginia Lorane Martin&nbsp;was born August 10, 1919, in Atchison, Kansas from the parents of Walter J. Martin and Bertha M. Jackson. She was raised in Atchison, Kansas along with her sisters Thelma and Edna, attended schools therein and graduated from Atchison High School in 1937. Virginia worked at various jobs in Atchison before moving to Kansas City. After two years in Kansas City, she moved to Fairfield, California where she met and married her Air Force officer husband Edward P. Noordyk who predeceased her in 2004. Together, they enjoyed 57 years of marriage traveling to locations including Hawaii, Philippines, Texas, Virginia and back to California. Virginia was an accomplished seamstress and later earned an Associate’s Arts degree as well as a previous Licensed Practical Nursing credential from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Her nursing credentials led to a position at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville, CA from which she retired. Virginia enjoyed antiquing, golf, bingo, raising roses and quilting (from which she received many awards).

She passed away peacefully on July 9, 2022, just a month short of her 103rd birthday. Having outlived most all her relatives and friends, she leaves her only son, Richard D. Noordyk, two grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Her ashes will be laid to rest next to her father in the McFarland City cemetery on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 1:30 pm.&nbsp;

Stefanie Linn Turner, 44, passed away September 27, 2022, in Wamego.

She was born July 4, 1978, in Larned, the daughter of Philip Alan and Ann Vratil Schreiber.

A Larned resident until 2001, she moved to Wamego where she was the 
head of the billing department at Manhattan Dermatology. She was a 
member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned. She was always a helper 
and was active in the kids wrestling club. She loved music, reading, 
dogs, fishing, taking pictures, being outdoors, decorating for the 
holidays, watching the Chiefs and all K-State sports. She especially 
loved watching her kids, nieces and nephews in sports and all their 
activites.

On October 23, 1999, she married Cody Joe Turner at Larned; he survives.

Other survivors include: mother, Ann Schreiber, Larned; children, 
Adreana and Dalton Turner, of the home; sister, Emily (Michael) Racette,
 Larned; nieces and nephews, Jocelynn, Logan, Brayson, Camden, Kennedy, 
Savannah; and her beloved dogs, Mocha and Ashford.

She was preceded in death by: her father, Philip Schreiber; 
grandfather, Leon Schreiber, grandparents, Bill and Mildred Hanshew, and
 Leo and Nina Vratil.

Memorial mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2022, at Sacred 
Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding.

Mary Lucille (Susie) Parks, 86, Junction City, KS, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Valley View Senior Life. Mary Lucille (Susie) Price Parks, 86, was born to Irvin and Pauline Price on June 8, 1936, Piedmont, WV. She went to be with the lord and the love of her life, her husband John, on September 28, 2022 from Junction City, KS.

Susie was the daughter of a military family that traveled a lot in her younger years before settling in Ft. Riley, KS, in 1944. She was a graduate of Junction City High School.

On January 17, 1954, Susie married John William Parks in Atchison, KS. Susie was employed with Smith Drug Store in Junction City as a pharmacist assistant and later Junction City High School as a para educator for 17 years. She received the district's Shining Star Award in 1990.

Susie held many interests that included camping, her love of gardening and the beautiful flowers she tended. But her biggest love included watching her granddaughters and later great-grandchildren at their sporting events. Her favorite spot was in her chair on the bleachers at the Chapman Sports Complex with a cup of coffee.

Susie was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ and Women's Fellowship in Junction City, KS.

Survivors include Daughter Susanne (Steve) Altwegg of Chapman, KS; granddaughters, Amanda (Tyler) Hands of Garden City, KS, Lindsey (Caleb) Snider of Chapman, KS, Lacey (Kasey) Fielder of Junction City, KS; great-grandchildren, Macy, Gentry, Lainey Hands, Cade, Addy, William Snider, Grason, Lilly, Landyn Fielder.

Daughter Jaylene (Robert) Thurlow of Wakefield, KS; granddaughters Emily (Robby) Haynes of Glencoe, OK, Megan (Brandon) Reed of Olathe, KS, Laura Thurlow and fiancé Tyler Griffith of Chapman, KS; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katie, Adalyn Haynes, Sonora Reed.

Susie is also survived by her brother James Price of Milford, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Parks; one son Ronald E. Parks of Junction City, KS, her parents; and brothers Richard Price of Canoga Park, CA and Garland (Gene) Price of Washington.

Kathleen was born February 12th, 1940, in Junction City, KS. She was the first- born daughter and second child of Glenn Eugene and Myrtle Vinita (Koepcke) Kirkpatrick. She&nbsp;graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1958. She had a fierce passion for horses and won many awards on the back of her beloved Dynamite. When she met her husband, Charles Ashby (senior) and moved to Virginia, she loaded Dynamite up into the bed of a pickup and took him with her.

She did many jobs throughout her life, but her number one job was taking care of her family and anyone else who needed it. When life changed for her and she choose to divorce; she loaded her children and animals up and headed back to Kansas, where she met her 2d husband. Several years later they chose to move to Montana and begin a new adventure. They were married for 38 years till he chose a different path.&nbsp;That is when she moved to Oklahoma to live with her son, Charles Edward Ashby Jr. and his family. She brought many laughs and adventures to their home. She was loved and cared for the remainder of her time with us on earth.

She is survived by her older brother, Robert Wayne Kirkpatrick of TX; her baby sister Barbara Gfeller of Junction City, KS; her daughter Charlotte (Charry) Ashby; her sons Charles Edward Ashby Jr. and Eugene (Gene) Ashby. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ronald J. Gfeller, her daughters-in-law Kimberly Ashby and Ann Wickersham; her nieces and nephews as well as their spouses Renee, Curtis, Robbie, Tracy, Sherri, Angela, and Tim; her grandchildren Raymond and his wife Jessica, Melissa, Kelsi and her husband Cesar, Mackenzie, Lillian and Easton,; and her great grandchildren Alycia, Gracie, Dominic and a new baby girl ready to be born soon.

John enjoyed fishing, gardening and spent time coaching little league baseball with his wife Judy. John was a great family man and enjoyed hosting family gathering at his house. John spent many years as a member of the Lions Club. In 2019 John moved to Junction City, Kansas with his son and daughter-in-law Joel and Mary Hynes. John is survived by his daughter, Jody (Rodney) Beaston of Moline, Illinois. His two brothers, Richard (Wanda) Hynes of Moline, Illinois and Robert Hynes Indianapolis, Indiana. In his free time Joel was an avid pool player and was involved in several league's. Joel's main focus was his family and was often heard bragging about them to whoever would listen. Joel is survived by his son, Tyler (Danielle) Hynes of Junction City, Kansas; daughter, Aislinn Ague of Silvis, Illinois; sister, Jody(Rodney) Beaston of Moline, Illinois; two grandsons, John Hynes, and Noah Hynes; two uncles, Richard (Wanda) Hynes of Moline, Illinois and Robert Hynes Indianapolis, Indiana; nephew, Daniel Beaston; niece, Kalee Beaston; and multiple cousins. Anne S. Nielsen, 71, died unexpectedly in an automobile accident on Wednesday afternoon, September 21, near Marysville, KS. Anne was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born December 24, 1950, to Ed and Marie Slattery of Weeping Water, Nebraska. She graduated Weeping Water High School, and later Kearney State College. In May, 1973, Anne married Monty E. Nielsen of Kearney, Nebraska. In addition to her KSC baccalaureate degree, Anne earned both a Master’s and Ph.D, in Special Education, from the University of North Dakota. Her career as a teacher of the blind and visually impaired extended 40 plus years in North Dakota, Washington State, Wisconsin, and Kansas. Anne was an excellent teacher and advocate. Her greatest passion was for infants and toddlers—she frequently was quoted as saying “don’t forget the babies” when tasks were being assigned and resources allocated. In all things that she did, Anne was passionate about identifying and meeting the needs of others. She was selfless, gracious, and kind.

In addition to her work with the Kansas State School for the Blind, Anne worked in partnership with the Kansas Optometric Association (KOA) to broaden, enhance, and strengthen statewide vision services at all levels. Anne was known regionally and nationally for her successes. She traveled internationally to Peru and Nigeria to teach and assist in vision trainings for children, as well as conducting vision screenings in Manhattan on behalf of the Manhattan Lions Club. In retirement, she continued to see and assist babies, and their parents. Anne was active in the Manhattan Lions Club and a volunteer at Ascension Via Christi, most recently working in out-patient services. Anne was honored by the College of Education at the University of Nebraska, Kearney with their Distinguished Educator of the Year Award in 2014. Anne was also a fantastic sister, aunt, and friend—she was a devoted Catholic, and will be cherished and missed by all who knew her.

Anne is survived by her husband Monty of Manhattan; son Monty Philip of Brooklyn, NY, and granddaughter, Alexandria, 11, and grandson, Anthony, 6, both of New York; daughter Noreen of Washington, D.C.; and sisters Suzanne Stander and Patricia Dorwart, plus brothers James Slattery and Joseph Slattery, all of Nebraska, in addition to several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other extended family. Anne was preceded in death by her eldest sister, Noreen Slattery, and her parents, Ed and Marie Slattery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, September 29 at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, with a vigil to follow at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 30 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2900 Kimball Avenue, Manhattan. Sue A. Story, 83, of Junction City, passed away on September 20, 2022 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare. Cremation has taken place. She was an avid bingo player at the Eagles Lodge and American Legion here in Junction City. She worked for the Junction City School District for many years until she retired in 1998 and moved to Branson, MO with her husband. She returned back to Junction City in 2007 after her husband passed away. Sue was married on Valentine's Day 1959 to Donald Story. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Faith Lutheran Church with burial following the service at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association, Faith Lutheran Church, or the V.F.W. Jim was born June 7, 1930, in Clarksdale, Missouri, the son of Walter Edward and Cora Arletta (Nevitt) Pearson. Jim entered the United States Army in 1947. After basic training and AIT, he was assigned to the 505th Parachute Regiment/82nd Airborne Division. He also received Special Forces training. During his thirty-one-year career, he was assigned to various state side and overseas duty stations. During this time, he served various tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam. He was wounded in both wars and awarded the Purple Heart in both theaters. He officially retired from the United States Army in 1978. After his military career, he worked for Woolworth's and later Footlocker until 1992. He also worked as a part-time bailiff for the Geary County District Court in Junction City, Kansas. Service to his community was very important to Jim. He was a member at Faith Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School and served on the church council. He also delivered Meals-on-Wheels with his wife Millie for twenty five years. He enjoyed volunteering at Eisenhower Elementary School, his granddaughter's school. Jim was a strong family man. He enjoyed traveling to spend time with extended family. He had a great sense of humor and a very quick wit. Jim loved military history and was an avid reader with an incredible memory. He was an avid sports fan following the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and any other sporting event that he could find on television. He was a proud member of the American Legion, V.F.W., and the Order of the Purple Heart. On January 19, 1952, he married the love of his life, Mildred "Millie" Jean Pearson. She passed away May 6, 2019. Survivors include one son, Michael James Pearson of Manhattan, Kansas; one daughter, Alicia (Pearson) Martindale and her husband Jeffery of Sioux City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Dawn O'Neill and her husband John of Randolph, Massachusetts, Jessica Jackson of Joplin, Missouri, Matthew Bruton and Andrew Bruton; six great-grandchildren, Alyvia Jackson, Tyee Jackson, Ian Bruton, Zoe Bruton, Faye O'Neill and Liam O'Neill; one brother-in-law Don Angeldorf; many nieces and nephews. At the age of 20, Sharon married James Price of Junction City, KS, and together they had three daughters. She raised her family, while pursuing a career with the Department of Defense civil service in Fort Riley, KS. After her divorce from James, she later married Benjamin Kitchens of Junction City, KS, and they lived together in Junction City until his death in 2011. Family was always Sharon’s highest priority, which is why she left Junction City in 2014 and moved to Leavenworth County, KS, to be closer to her daughters. Sharon grew up active in 4-H and shared that love with her daughters. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, landscaping, home remodeling projects not only for herself, but also for each of her daughters. She was an avid bowler participating in leagues both in Junction City and Leavenworth as well as representing Kansas as a senior bowler nationally in Reno, NV. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chapman, KS, and later in Basehor, KS, after moving to Leavenworth County. She remained very active with her daughters. She worked with a personal trainer 3+ times per week to recover from a stroke a year earlier and was leg pressing 115 pounds just 3 weeks prior to her death. She loved all the animals and activities her daughters enjoyed and was frequently offering to help with those activities. She particularly enjoyed road trips and car karaoke. Sharon is survived by her three loving Daughters, Kaylynn Johnson (Greg) of Leavenworth, KS, Tammy Hane (Ken) of Bonner Springs, KS, and Nancy Freese (Greg) of Topeka, KS; her grandchildren, Brian Johnson of Michigan, Ethan Johnson of Topeka, KS, Alex Freese of Independence, MO, Abby Freese of Topeka, KS; her great grandchildren Paris Souza, Illinois, and Isa Souza, Michigan; her double cousin Keith Karmann of Yates Center, KS, and her sister-in-law Donna Karmann, Clay Center, KS. Barbara Ann Rairden passed away on September 21st, 2022 at Salina Regional Health Center. She was born September 3rd, 1952 in Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of Martin G Alford and Delores Lee Kerr-Alford. 

Barbara attended Garfield Elementary School in Abilene, and Westwood Elementary&nbsp; and Junction City Junior High School in Junction City, Kansas. In 1970, she graduated from Lyons High School, Lyons, Kansas. In 1975, Barbara graduated with honors from Brown-Mackie School of Business in Salina, Kansas, earning an executive secretarial degree. After graduation, she found employment as a clerk at the Saline County Magistrate Court, and then in 1976, she accepted a position as a secretary at the Saline County Extension Office. On May 14, 1977, Barbara married her soul mate Elmer Ray “Butch” Rairden at the United Methodist Church in Salina, Kansas. They were married for almost 35 years. Butch and Barbara owned and operated the H&amp;R Block office in Abilene, Kansas where she worked until retiring in November 2010.

One of Barbara’s passions was traveling down Route 66 with her husband, Butch. Over the years, they made several enjoyable road trips through Missouri, her favorite Route 66 state. She also loved reading and collecting postcards from Route 66, Abilene, Salina and Monte Ne, Arkansas. Most importantly, she loved her grandchildren, Annabelle, Austin, and Alex.

Barbara was a life-long member of the VFW. She supported and contributed to the Salvation Army and the United Way. She had memberships with the Dickinson County Heritage Center in Abilene, The Rogers Historical Museum in Rogers, Arkansas, The Route 66 Magazine, The Route 66 Association of Missouri, Alley Cats, Humane Society, and Best Friends Animal Society – Utah.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Judith “Judy” Reneá Alford-Life (Jim) of Rogers, Arkansas; two daughters and a son, Rebecca Ann Morgan (Wayne) of Topeka, Kansas; Justin Ray Rairden of Kansas City, KS; Trisha “Nikki” Nicole Rairden-Schmelzle-Viveros (Luis) of Olathe, Kansas; a bonus daughter, Natosha Rae Batzler of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Annabelle Lee Schmelzle of Lakewood, CO; Austin James Schmelzle, and Alexander Elijah Schmelzle of Olathe, Kansas; her best friend, Darlene Sue Champe-Schrag (Mike) of Phoenix, Arizona; and a nephew, nieces, and cousins.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Ray “Butch” Rairden on January 4, 2012; an infant son, Elmer Ray Rairden, Jr on July 27th, 1977; her father, Martin George Alford on February 23rd, 2004; her mother, Delores Lee Kerr-Alford on April 4th, 2003; her brother, Gary Lee Alford on September 29th, 1992; and a grandson, Asher Schmelzle in 2007.

The memorial service will be held on September 30th, 2022 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene, Kansas, with the Reverend Earl Haggard officiating. She will be cremated, her ashes to be interred at a later date at the Abilene Cemetery.

Sandra “Sandy” Ann Clasen, age 77 of Solomon, passed away Monday, September 19, 2022 peacefully at her home. She was born April 24, 1945 in Watertown, South Dakota, the daughter of Cecil Edward and Evelyn Ann (Lindner) Klucas. On February 14, 1989 she married Steven Clasen at the Fairview Presbyterian Church in Riley, KS.

Sandy was always known to lend a hand whenever anyone needed it, even if it was just to babysit. If you knew Sandy, you could almost always find her playing bingo. She always enjoyed sharing her love of bingo with her family and friends. She always enjoyed a good laugh and had quite the imagination, especially when it came to Halloween costumes. The last several years, she became rather crafty in creating her costumes. When she was not crafting, she spent time playing with her dog Lilie.

Sandy is survived by her stepson Hayden Clasen and stepdaughter Stephenie Clasen, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She’s also survived by her near and dear sweet friend Raeann Cordell, 3 sister-in-laws, Jean Gray, Linda Klucas, and Kaye Klucas, one brother-in-law Stanley Clasen as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Steven Clasen, her parents, 3 brothers, James, Edward, and Fredrick Klucas; one sister Barbara Hoftizer, one niece Tina Klucas, and one nephew Doug Hoftizer.

Linda K. Holmes was born August 9, 1943 in Abilene the daughter of Glen and Lucille (Sutton) French. She passed away Sunday, September 18, 2022 at her home in Abilene at the age of 79. Linda was a graduate of Abilene High School with the class of 1961 and worked for Duckwall-Alco for almost 45 years. After her retirement, she worked as a tax preparer for H &amp; R Block in Abilene and a substitute lunch lady in the Abilene Public Schools. Linda was married to Terry Holmes on November 4, 1978 in Abilene. Linda was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary in Abilene and was a majority member of Bethel #7 and past Supreme, Grand and Grand Bethel leader for the International Order of Job’s Daughters, and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Linda and Terry enjoyed going to Sturgis every year until his death in 2012. She enjoyed going to casinos and to Las Vegas with her friends. Linda is survived by her daughter Holly Walker of Abilene, sister Carol Roger of Nebraska, grandchildren Sarah Jackson and Noah Nevitt, and four great grandsons, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Terry, three of her siblings, and her parents. The family has selected cremation and there will be no services. In 1975, he married Brenda Sue Loftus, and were married for 25 years. James is survived by his only son, Jason Smith of Junction City, KS. Leslie June Beaupre Muller passed into the hands of God on August 31, 2022 at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan.

Leslie was born on October 20, 1943, in San Francisco, CA, the daughter of Lesley Garfield Beaupre and June Viola Glessner. She attended Fremont High School and upon graduating worked at the Land Bank as an account administrator. She later married Stan Della Maggoria in Petaluma, CA, and had one daughter, Wendy. The marriage ended when Stan passed tragically due to cancer.

Leslie being an outdoor person then moved to Jackson Hole Wyoming, where she worked at the Law Offices of Jerry Spence as a recorder/ secretary typist. She volunteered on the Jackson ski patrol and mountain rescue and was a volunteer EMT. She loved riding in the hills with her five horses, trout fishing, and doing some hunting. She loved rodeo and horses and was a champ barrel racer. Sadly, Leslie was forced to alter her cowgirl lifestyle after wrecking her knee in a skiing accident and shortly thereafter an auto accident.

She then moved to Tucson, AZ, and attended the University of Arizona Medical School, where she earned her certification as a medical transcriptionist. She held positions in various hospitals in Phoenix, Denver and lastly Manhattan, KS, at Mercy on Sunset There she met her husband and partner for the next 25+ years, Walt Muller, and they were married in 1996.

Leslie wanted no funeral but rather direct cremation with her ashes to be scattered in the Pacific Ocean where she enjoyed watching and reflecting on the ocean sunsets.

She is survived by her husband Walt Muller of Manhattan, and daughter Wendy and her husband Rusty Martin, and a granddaughter Jamie, all of Lakewood, WA; plus, numerous cousins in New York and Colorado and California

Leslie requested that any memorials be made to the Meadowlark Hills Good Samaritan Fund in Manhattan KS or American Cancer Society.

William "Bill" Roberson,72, of St. George, Ks won his fight with brain cancer on Friday, Sept. 16th, 2022, and entered into Heaven.

Bill was born in Hutchinson, Ks, upon graduation he followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Navy, after 6 years of seeing the world on a Naval ship he returned to Hutchinson where he joined the Army Reserves proudly serving this great country, he went on to receive his master's degree and taught Science for over 20 years at the middle school on Ft. Riley.

His retirement was filled with hobbies, he always had a passion for nature, horses, all things cowboy, travel and art. Bill was a gentle giant with a heart to match, never too busy to lend an ear or help those he loved. He was a wonderful storyteller; his wit was guaranteed to make you laugh occasionally to the point of tears. His presence will be greatly missed but comfort is found in knowing his spirit lives on in all those he taught, called friend and his family.

He was proceeded in death by his father, mother and youngest brother.

He is survived by his older brother, Wayne Roberson of Hutchinson, Ks, niece Michelle Turley and husband (Joe) of Ft. Knox, Ky, and great nephew Joseph Turley Jr.

David Helburn Sachs (b. January 26, 1953, Newport News, VA), only child of Benjamin and Dorothy Sachs, passed peacefully on September 17, 2022 in Manhattan, KS.

David grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended Stetson University (Bachelor of Science, Economics, 1974) on a golf scholarship and Rice University (Master of Architecture, 1977) before earning his Doctorate of Architecture at the University of Michigan (1986). He brought almost a decade of private practice experience with him when he joined the Kansas State University College of Architecture, Planning &amp; Design faculty in 1988.

As a Professor of Architecture in the College of Architecture Planning and Design, David spent 30 years teaching generations of students the principles of architectural design and history. He served the Department of Architecture as Director of the Kansas City Academic Program (1989-95), Associate Department Head (2000-04), Department Head (2004-07), Regnier Distinguished Faculty Chair (2011-13) and as the Director of the College’s PhD program (2014-18). His published works include books on Louisiana Architect A. Hays Town and Guide to Kansas Architecture, and the Kansas section of Archipedia, the online guide to American architecture, as well as numerous articles and book reviews.

In addition to his academic work, David was a dedicated steward and proponent of Kansas architecture, serving as President of the Flint Hills Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (2000; 2006), on the State Historic Sites Review Board, and on the State Building Advisory Commission. David was also a longtime Southeastern Society of Architectural Historians member and Secretary (2002-18), presenting at and attending nearly every yearly conference before hosting the 2018 conference in Manhattan.

An avid world traveler, David shared his passion with Kansas State students by teaching study abroad programs in Italy. At home he found joy in regular games of golf, hosting social events for students and faculty members, walking his dogs, and spending time with his wife and children.

David is survived by his wife Rebecca Stark and his children Ann Forsman Sachs (Johan) (Stockholm, Sweden), Benjamin Stark-Sachs (Emporia, KS), and Jonathan Stark-Sachs (Bristol, RI).

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 28 at 2:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Manhattan. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Kansas State University Foundation for the College of Architecture, Planning &amp; Design or the Alzheimer’s Association.
