Cleo Margaret Percival Richards was born on Sept. 12, 1923, in Tescott, KS to Eldridge and Reithel Percival. She died Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita.

She was raised in Beverly, Lincoln County, Kansas. She graduated from Beverly Rural High School in 1941. After graduation, she worked as a nanny, clerk for Kress variety store, riveter and later a crew chief for Aero Parts Mfg. Co, in Wichita during WWII. After the war, she worked as a bookkeeper for A.L. Duckwall stores in Abilene, KS. She later worked for many years as bookkeeper for Kaup Furniture and Appliance Mart in Manhattan.

On February 23, 1947, she was united in marriage to Norman Dale Richards. They farmed near Westfall, KS until 1957, when they moved to Manhattan. Cleo moved to Wichita to live with her daughter, Teresa and her family in 2014.

Cleo was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan serving as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher, as well as a member of a church circle. She also served as a Cub Scout den mother and a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of an Extension Family and Community Education Unit. She was an affiliate member of First Presbyterian Church in Wichita where she enjoyed participating in small groups and studies.

Cleo is survived by daughter, Teresa Lang of Wichita, and two sons: Daniel Richards and his wife Brenda of Manhattan and Randall Richards and his wife Jane of Aurora, CO. She has six grandchildren: Andrea, Jared, Lane, David and Amy Richards and Elizabeth Lang, and one great grandchild, Etienne Richards. She is also survived by one sister, Dana Jackson, of Stillwater, MN.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday October 22, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church, 801 Leavenworth Avenue in Manhattan. Private Inurnment will be held at the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

Roger Lee Bean passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 4th, surrounded by family. Roger was born in 1936 in Ashland, Kansas. He is survived by his children Brenda Kay Tooley and husband Michael Tooley, Rhonda Leigh Holloman and husband Ken (Spike) Holloman, Scott Roger Bean and wife Jill Bean and Jerry Lynn Bean and wife Jessie Bean, as well as six grandchildren, Tyler (Morgan), Kendal (Jeff), Nathan (Brianna), Luke, Gunner and Grant, and three great-granddaughters, Izzy, Zoey and Adelynn, and also by his sister Karen Salyer (Theron) and brother Richard Bean (Betty) and sisters-in-law Diane Brown (Duane), Beth Pike and Janice Tarvin and brother-in-law Rolland Stewart (Carol). Roger is preceded in death by his beloved wife Wanda Bean, as well as his parents, Inez and Cecil Bean.

Wanda and Roger married in 1960 when they were students at Fort Hays State University. Roger earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from FHSU in 1960 and a Master of Science in Economics and Finance in 1968. Roger worked on the family farm in Coldwater from boyhood and over the summers as a student at Fort Hays, later becoming an economics and history teacher and then pursuing a successful career in agribusiness management and as a grain merchandiser. He was rightly proud of his involvement in many aspects of agriculture and agribusiness. Roger loved conversation about ideas, and was passionately interested in books, art and music, instilling this love in his children.

He was a gifted nature photographer and outdoorsman. He enjoyed many photography excursions with his son, Scott, across Kansas, and offered a repertoire of professional photographs through his Cross2Bar photography website. His passion for photography and the visual arts began in high school, when he shot home movies about life in and around Coldwater. He was proud of being an early personal-use adopter of the technology.

His appreciation for nature was a defining feature of his character. He loved to spend time in Colorado, which he first visited as a teen, helping to hay high meadows near Crestone over the summers. With his family, he returned annually to Colorado to fish and camp during summer vacations. He also camped and fished regularly at Lake Wilson Reservoir in Kansas with his family and his brother-in-law Rolland and family. He loved to fish and hunt (and was a skilled fly-fisherman and enjoyed hunting deer, pheasant, and quail). He cultivated roses and was an outstanding gardener, taking tremendous pleasure in placing and nurturing trees and flowers everywhere he lived.

Roger had a thoughtful engagement with all of the interests and talents of his children - their careers, families, hobbies, etc. He enjoyed visiting with his children about gardening and his son Jerry’s piloting and flying adventures for example. He was centered in his family. He loved to barbecue and was the chef at family gatherings, over holidays, and at Sunday dinners. He loved staying in touch with his grandchildren and great grandchildren through visits, social media and video calls. He loved to play cards with family and friends and was a competitive, knowledgeable bridge player.

He was a life-long Methodist, valuing his role in church leadership in a number of congregations and finding comfort in his Christian faith.

Family was profoundly important to him. He encouraged the interests and careers of his children and grandchildren, supporting them wholeheartedly and cheering their accomplishments. We are eternally grateful to him for his love, care and guidance.

A Celebration of Life for Roger will be held in the future.

Elwyn Guy Coffee, Jr., 88, of Manhattan, known for his love of being an avid chess player and coin collector, passed away Wednesday morning, October 5th, at the Ascension Via Christi Health Hospital. He was a former librarian at the KSU College of Veterinary Medicine from 1970 until 1997 and was a former librarian at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and the Universal Caribbean University School of Medicine in Basseterre, St. Kitts, West Indies.

Elwyn Guy Coffee, Jr, arrived into this world in Kansas City, Missouri on January 24, 1934, the son of the late Mary Ruth (Alexander) Coffee O'Mahony and Elwyn Guy Coffee, Sr. He grew up among family in Kansas City, Missouri.

Guy was married to Janice Ellen Clawson in Manhattan at the First Christian Church on June 25, 1971. They spent their honeymoon in Western Canada. He and Janice were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan.

Guy attended and graduated from Raytown High School in 1952; a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of Missouri in 1968 and worked in Kansas City as a biomedical lab assistant for about 8 years; in 1970 he received his Master's degree in Library Science from Emporia State University. He was also active in the community theater in Kansas City during the 60's.

Guy is survived by his daughter, Caryn M. (Coffee) Davidson and her husband, James Davidson, of Red Oak, Texas; his son, Tom Coffee, of St. Paul, Minnesota; grandsons Brandon J. Davidson &amp; Ayden M. Davidson and his brother and sister-in-law, Eldon &amp; Marlene Clawson, Wakarusa, KS. Guy is preceded in death by his parents as well as his wife, Janice.

Marie Elaina “Mia” Ines, 53, of St. George, Kansas, passed away peacefully after a courageous five-year battle with Leiomyosarcoma at her home on October 1, 2022.

Born October 2, 1968, in Fort Madison, Iowa, Marie was the daughter of Ernesto and Beverly (Mehl) Ines.

&nbsp; She attended school in St. George, Kansas. She later attended Seminole Community College in Florida where she received an associate degree and pursued a career in medical transcription.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mia was a proud mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed her cats, music, and all things nature. She had a passion for collecting arrowheads and especially loved heart-shaped rocks often saying they were kisses from angels when she came across them.&nbsp;

Survivors include her parents, Ernesto and Beverley Ines; daughters, Michelle, Aaliyah, and Yazmine; son, Steven, sister; Shannon (Derek) McMullen, Tayia, Trista, and Tiffany; a brother; Antonio (Mandy Christie) Ines, Shirley, Nicholasa, Brayden, and Brentley; and her companion Monte Adkins.

&nbsp;Mia was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lester and Virginia Mehl, Teofilo and Nicholasa Ines, and her uncle David Mehl.

&nbsp;Mia bequeathed her body for scientific research due to the extreme rareness of her cancer. Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) accounts for less than 1% of all known cancers. Although her courageous battle with cancer has ended, it is our hope that her request to have her body bequeathed this research will help others suffering from this rare form of cancer.

&nbsp;A memorial service will be held on November 5, 2022, at Blackjack Hills, St. George, KS at 1:30 p.m. with a visitation following until 5:00 p.m.

Delbert Emil Ebert, 92, of rural Flush, KS passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, after a brave battle with kidney failure and prostate cancer.&nbsp;

Delbert was a kind, faithful, generous, and quiet man with a mild manner.&nbsp; He was born March 11, 1930, in rural Flush, KS, the son of Lawrence and Margaret (Schmitz) Ebert.&nbsp; He grew up in Flush and graduated from Flush High School in 1948, playing basketball and baseball.&nbsp; He joined the United States Air Force from 1951 – 1955 during the Korean War.&nbsp; On March 2, 1957, Delbert was married to Betty Dekat.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on July 13, 2013.

He was a farmer most of his life and had such a passion for it, raising 7 children there.&nbsp; Over the years, he also was a Hoegemeyer Seed Dealer and worked at Manhattan Sale Barn, CK Processing, and Jeffery Energy Center as a security guard.

Delbert was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Flush and was a lector for many years and joined the Knights of Columbus at 18 years old and was only 5 months shy of being a member for 75 years and a 3rd&nbsp;and 4th-degree member. He also served as financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus for 36 years.&nbsp; He was a member of the American Legion for 66 years, served on the Pottawatomie Township board for 23 years, and was a clerk for the Flush school board for 3 years.

He enjoyed word searches, puzzles, and the TV game shows The Price is Right and Family Feud.&nbsp; He loved playing cards with family and friends.&nbsp; He was a sports fan of the Royals, Chiefs, and K-State. He rarely missed watching a game. In the early evenings, he enjoyed a relaxing drive toodlin’ along the country roads with his dog Bandit.

&nbsp;He is survived by his children: Kathy (Dwaine) Plummer, Ron (Ruth) Ebert, and Deb (Steve) Swoyer, all of Flush, KS.&nbsp; Shirley (Wayne) Eichem of Wamego, KS, Cindy (Larry) Kabriel of Westmoreland, KS, Brian (Jennifer) Ebert of Frankfort, KS, and Janette (Jason) Heath of Westmoreland, KS; 19 grandchildren: Scott, Eric, and Adam Plummer, Brittany Wirtz, Taylor Havenstein and Jordan Ebert, Brad, Brett, and Lucas Swoyer, Trent Zoeller and Kristin Portelli, Ryan Kabriel and Ashlyn Easterday, Emilee, Breleigh and Callen Ebert, Skylar, Coleman, and Rylee Heath and 20 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way.&nbsp; He was also preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 13th&nbsp;at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Flush.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the church cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 12th&nbsp;at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. He will lie in state starting at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Church. Delbert Emil Ebert, 92, of rural St. George, KS, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022. He was a lifetime farmer of the Flush, KS area.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 13th at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Flush. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 12th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m.. Location of the visitation and rosary is yet to be decided and will be announced later with a full obituary.

Delbert Emil Ebert, 92, of rural Flush, KS passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, after a brave battle with kidney failure and prostate cancer.&nbsp;Delbert was a kind, faithful, generous, and quiet man with a mild manner.&nbsp; He was born March 11, 1930, in rural Flush, KS, the son of Lawrence and Margaret (Schmitz) Ebert.&nbsp; He grew up in Flush and graduated from Flush High School in 1948, playing basketball and baseball.&nbsp; He joined the United States Air Force from 1951 – 1955 during the Korean War.&nbsp; On March 2, 1957, Delbert was married to Betty Dekat.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on July 13, 2013.He was a farmer most of his life and had such a passion for it, raising 7 children there.&nbsp; Over the years, he also was a Hoegemeyer Seed Dealer and worked at Manhattan Sale Barn, CK Processing, and Jeffery Energy Center as a security guard.Delbert was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Flush and was a lector for many years and joined the Knights of Columbus at 18 years old and was only 5 months shy of being a member for 75 years and a 3rd&nbsp;and 4th-degree member. He also served as financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus for 36 years.&nbsp; He was a member of the American Legion for 66 years, served on the Pottawatomie Township board for 23 years, and was a clerk for the Flush school board for 3 years.He enjoyed word searches, puzzles, and the TV game shows The Price is Right and Family Feud.&nbsp; He loved playing cards with family and friends.&nbsp; He was a sports fan of the Royals, Chiefs, and K-State. He rarely missed watching a game. In the early evenings, he enjoyed a relaxing drive toodlin’ along the country roads with his dog Bandit.&nbsp;He is survived by his children: Kathy (Dwaine) Plummer, Ron (Ruth) Ebert, and Deb (Steve) Swoyer, all of Flush, KS.&nbsp; Shirley (Wayne) Eichem of Wamego, KS, Cindy (Larry) Kabriel of Westmoreland, KS, Brian (Jennifer) Ebert of Frankfort, KS, and Janette (Jason) Heath of Westmoreland, KS; 19 grandchildren: Scott, Eric, and Adam Plummer, Brittany Wirtz, Taylor Havenstein and Jordan Ebert, Brad, Brett, and Lucas Swoyer, Trent Zoeller and Kristin Portelli, Ryan Kabriel and Ashlyn Easterday, Emilee, Breleigh and Callen Ebert, Skylar, Coleman, and Rylee Heath and 20 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way.&nbsp; He was also preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 13th&nbsp;at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Flush.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the church cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 12th&nbsp;at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. He will lie in state starting at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Church. Ralph Joseph Ponte, 71, of McFarland, Kansas, passed away on Friday (October 7, 2022) at his home.

He was born in Topeka on July 4, 1951 to Nina Burch McKinley and Ralph McKinley.&nbsp; At a young age he was adopted and raised by Mary Burch and Patrick Ponte on a farm 4.5 miles east of Hoyt, Kansas.&nbsp; He graduated from Hoyt High School and served in the United States Army.

Ralph was employed with Santa Fe Railroad from 1973 to 1993, then started R.J. Ponte Construction specializing in building Custom Homes. He retired in 2018. Ralph was an exceptional craftsman and continued his love of woodworking as a hobby.

Ralph was active with the McFarland PRIDE volunteer group, Relay for Life and with CASA in Topeka. He enjoyed attending race car events, hunting and fishing on the farmland, and fishing yearly in Canada with close friends. He cherished road trips for work and pleasure, Jeep rides, visiting new places, and attending concerts with the love of his life. He was always sure to make the most of every experience and return with stories to tell. He was a great storyteller and found joy in sharing with others. Ralph had a way of making every person in the room feel important. He genuinely loved people, leaving a lasting impression on those he met.

He was a very proud father and grandfather who loved watching his grandchildren play sports and attending all their events. Time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the highlight of his life.

Ralph was preceded in death by a twin brother at birth, his parents, a younger brother Thomas Ponte and two older sisters Edie Adams and Georgia Bonneson.

He was united in marriage to Sandra Barngrover on August 18, 1972. They were later divorced.&nbsp; On February 14, 1991 Ralph married Bernita Mongold Tryon.&nbsp; She was killed in a tragic auto accident on September 9, 1998.&nbsp; On August 3, 2002 Ralph was united in marriage to Marilyn Meseke Gasperich at his home in Auburn, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives at their home in McFarland, Kansas.

Ralph is also survived by his children Teresa Ponte (Al), Meriden, Amy Ponte, Topeka, August Wessel (Andrew), Minot, North Dakota, Dustin Gasperich (Jen), Topeka, Krista Hurla (Chad), Paxico, Rachel Sisson, (Jared), Berryton, Lindsay Falk (Josh), Alma, one brother Nick Nicolay (Lisa), Nebraska City, Nebraska, thirteen (13) grandchildren Ellen Doty, Devin Ponte, Brandon Gasperich (Marisa), Mackenzie &nbsp;Johanek (Tucker), Jordyn and Jayde Berroth, Easton Sisson, Peyton, Katelyn, Brady and Cole Hurla, Haidyn and Mason Falk, and two (2) great-grandchildren Oaklee and Bodhi Gasperich.

Funeral services will be held on Friday (October 14, 2022) at 10:30 a.m. at the Alma United Methodist Church with Pastor Kyle Scheideman officiating.&nbsp; Burial with Military Honors will in the McFarland City Cemetery.

Ralph Joseph Ponte

Leo Dickinson, 88, of St. Marys, Kansas, passed away on Thursday (October 6, 2022) at Midland Hospice in Topeka, Kansas.

Born May 14, 1934, in Pleasant Plains, Iowa, Leo was the son of Virgil Henry and Thelma Maxine (Tucker) Dickinson. He married Barbara Lee Axtell on October 4, 1958, in Colona, Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2007.

Leo served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1957 – 1959. He had been a member of the St. George American Legion Post.

He was an active loved and well-respected member of the YLISSB System Amateur Radio Network. He operated as a Net Control operator several times a week.&nbsp; He was also an avid outdoorsman, his passion was Duck Hunting, but he also enjoyed upland game bird hunting as well as fishing.

Leo was employed for over 35 years at Balderson’s Manufacturing in Wamego until his retirement. He also owned and operated Leo’s Taxidermy in St. George for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Lee Dickinson (Deborah) of Wamego and Gerry Leon Dickinson (Angela) of Wamego; a daughter, Janey Marie DeVries of Nixa, MO; six grandchildren, Claire Mundell of Williams, OR, Matthew Mundell of Lawrence, KS, Nathan Dickinson of Wamego, Kasey Coon (Tim) of Wamego, Amelia Delay of Wamego and Hollis Berry of Kansas City, MO; three great grandchildren, Aiden Delay, Addilyn Delay and Naomi Coon all of Wamego; a brother, Louie Dickinson (Dottie) of Davenport, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dickinson was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; a son in law, Steve DeVries; and three brothers, James Leonard Dickinson, Thomas “Tom” Dickinson and Larry Dickinson.

Leo Dickinson

With his fishing pole and bait bucket in one hand and his rifle in 
the other, Bruce Schmitt was called to that great fishing and hunting 
compound in the sky.

Bruce Edward Schmitt, 69, of Onaga, Kansas, passed away on 
Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the Onaga Health &amp; Rehab Facility 
with his family by his side.

Born February 18, 1953, in in Summit, New Jersey, Bruce was the son
 of Alfred and Ruth (Bock) Schmitt. He grew up in Kenilworth, N.J. and 
graduated from David Brearley High School.&nbsp; He attended a night school 
program for welding at the Manhattan Vo-Tech School.

Bruce married Julie Berges on June 12, 1976 in Onaga, KS.&nbsp; They 
moved to Roselle Park, N. J. for one year and moved back to Onaga where 
they lived on the family farm.

Bruce was a welder. He worked for three years at Frankfort 
Fabrication and later for Dale Luttig in Emmett, KS for 10 years. When 
Dale decided to retire, Bruce went to work at Dymax as a steel cutter 
for 18 years until his health forced him to retire.

Bruce was a member of the Congregational United Church in Onaga, 
Wamego Masonic Lodge No. 75 AF&amp;AM, Kenilworth Jaycees and the Onaga 
Jaycees.&nbsp; He received his JCI Senatorship in May, 1992.&nbsp; Bruce also 
helped with the 4-H Shooting Sports and was a Hunter Education 
Instructor for many years.&nbsp; He was an avid hunter and fisherman and 
loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Julie; two daughters, Keri
 Zenger and her husband, Chad and Rebecca Mayginnes and her husband, 
Zac; eight grandchildren, Trenton Ross and his fiance’,Cassie Punchard, 
Glennys “Rudy” Ross, Avery Zenger, Kylie Zenger, Will Zenger, Kylar 
Schmitt, Morgan Mayginnes and Rilyn Maginnes all of Onaga, KS; a 
brother, Gary Schmitt and his wife, Carolyn of Union, N.J.; a brother in
 law, Reen Berges and his wife, Sandy of Great Bend, KS; and many other 
loving family members and friends who will greatly miss him.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Ruth Schmitt.

Bruce’s wish was to be cremated.&nbsp; A Memorial service will be held 
on Thursday (October 13, 2022) at 3:00 p.m. at the Onaga Congregational 
United Church with Pastor Ron Stair officiating.

The family will meet with friends on Thursday afternoon from 2:00 
until the time of services and following the service at a reception in 
the fellowship hall.

Bruce Edward Schmitt

Joyce Ilene Fleming, 66, of St. George, Kansas, passed away on Saturday (October 1, 2022) at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

Born December 7, 1955 in Marysville, Kansas, Joyce was the daughter of Orville James and Ila Marie (Fletcher) Thomas.&nbsp; She married Larry Fleming on May 17, 2007 in Westmoreland, Kansas.&nbsp; He survives.

Joyce was employed for Jani-King until her retirement.&nbsp; She had previously worked at Three Rivers, Inc. in Wamego and Wal-Mart in Manhattan.

An avid reader, Joyce also enjoyed coloring, watching Cardinals, collecting shot glasses and going to the lake with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Larry; a daughter, Lindsay Thomas of Manhattan, KS; two sisters, Sheryll Michael of Kansas City, MO and Darlene Haller (Melvin) of Randolph, KS; three sisters in law, Janet Fox (Gene) of Largo, FL, Susan Fleming (Jerry Weems) of Kanopolis, KS and Joyce Mills (Steve) of Abilene, KS; many nieces and nephews; and her loving dog, Cooper.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.

Joyce Ilene Fleming

Eldon Lorein Hoover was born on April 26, 1929, and passed away October 1, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan, Kansas. Eldon was the eighth of nine children born to David Breckbill Hoover and Susan Page Hoover on the family farm in rural Detroit, Kansas northeast of Abilene, Kansas. Eldon grew up in the Moonlight Community and attended the Moonlight Grade School. He graduated from DCCHS (Dickinson County Community High School, Chapman, Kansas) in 1947. On October 16, 1949, he married Nelda Marie Marts and to this union were born four children, Susan Marie, Sheryl Christine, Connie Jane and Steven Craig. &nbsp;As a youth, Eldon attended the Bethel Brethren in Christ Church north of Detroit, Kansas, and was a member of Sutphen Mill Christian Church, Chapman, Kansas. &nbsp;Eldon farmed northwest of Chapman, Kansas for 70 years and loved farming and tending the land. He always said he would farm until he was 90 years of age. He was able to plant, harvest and truck his last crop of wheat to Chapman Coop Elevator in 2016 at the age of 87. He said retirement for farmers was farming.  </figure>Eldon Lorein Hoover was born on April 26, 1929, and passed away October 1, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan, Kansas. Eldon was the eighth of nine children born to David Breckbill Hoover and Susan Page Hoover on the family farm in rural Detroit, Kansas northeast of Abilene, Kansas. Eldon grew up in the Moonlight Community and attended the Moonlight Grade School. He graduated from DCCHS (Dickinson County Community High School, Chapman, Kansas) in 1947. On October 16, 1949, he married Nelda Marie Marts and to this union were born four children, Susan Marie, Sheryl Christine, Connie Jane and Steven Craig. &nbsp;As a youth, Eldon attended the Bethel Brethren in Christ Church north of Detroit, Kansas, and was a member of Sutphen Mill Christian Church, Chapman, Kansas. &nbsp;Eldon farmed northwest of Chapman, Kansas for 70 years and loved farming and tending the land. He always said he would farm until he was 90 years of age. He was able to plant, harvest and truck his last crop of wheat to Chapman Coop Elevator in 2016 at the age of 87. He said retirement for farmers was farming. Carolyn Sue Lindholm (Mandeville), 73 of Hamilton, MT was reunited with her loving husband on October 4, 2022.

Carol was born July 11, 1949, in Hutchinson, KS to Robert George 
Mandeville and Nancy Maxine Mandeville (Gough). She attended Nickerson 
High School.

On October 2, 1974, she married Michael Lindholm in Lindsborg, KS. 
They lived in Kansas until moving to the Bitterroot Valley in 1984, with
 their two sons Chad &amp; Jerry. Carol assisted her husband Mike with 
insurance sales. Selling insurance allowed them to travel together and 
meet many people along the way. Later in life she enjoyed retirement and
 spending time with family and friends.

Carol, to this day, holds the record for the largest whitetail buck 
shot by a woman with a bow in McPherson County Kansas. When Carol didn’t
 have a bow in her hand, you could find her and Mike on the golf course.
 Carol and Mike were an inseparable pair until his passing in 2008. The 
loss of her husband was extremely difficult for her. We all find comfort
 knowing that they are again reunited and doing the two step.

Heaven has claimed the life of Joy C. Johnson of Manhattan, KS. She was 83 years old and died peacefully on October 4, 2022 at Meadowlark Hills. She fought a battle with cancer for thelast year. Joy was born on May 1, 1939 in Plainville, KS to Louis and Opal Hrabe. She was a graduate of&nbsp; Stockton High School, class of 1957. She moved to Manhattan, KS to attend ManhattanChristian College where she met the love of her life, Dennis Johnson. They were married on December 20, 1958. Dennis and Joy raised two children, Judy Jo (1960) and David Duane (1961). They spent their early married years in Abilene, KS where Dennis worked at KP&amp;L and Joy received a bachelor’s degree from Marymount College in Salina, KS. Joy taught social sciences at Abilene High School. They also managed the King Solomon Christian Camp near Solomon, KS while working their jobs in Abilene. Joy was well known for her excellent homemade food she prepared for the campers each summer. The Lord called them to move to Manhattan, KS and join the Manhattan Christian College family. They held several job positions depending on the needs of the College. After the high school graduations of their children from Manhattan High School, Dennis and Joy moved to the Johnson family farm south of Abilene, KS to take care of Grandpa Frank and the farm. During this time, Joy enjoyed raising a few horses and showing them with her daughter and grandchildren. She won several awards on the Eastern Kansas Horseman’s Association and made many friends. Faith and Family were a big part of Joy’s life. She cherished her personal relationship with her savior, Jesus Christ. She loved studying her Bible and preparing Bible lessons to share with others. She also loved playing the piano and organ for church services. Joy was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Abilene and the University Christian Church in Manhattan. Joy was a loving, caring grandmother who was very generous. She loved spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren and her great granddaughters even as she was battling cancer during the past year. Joy is survived by her daughter, Judy Parsons and husband, Bob of Hugoton, KS; sons David Johnson and wife Keiko of Manhattan and Bill Watt and wife, Katherine of Junction City, KS; Grandchildren Eli Gantenbein, Salina; Levi Gantenbein and wife Katelyn, Manhattan; Claire Johnson, San Diego, CA and Donny Johnson, Manhattan. Great granddaughters Emma and Amelia Gantenbein, Manhattan. Her sisters Betty Raney of CA and Phyllis Hart of Plainville; and her brother, Debert Hrabe and wife Jeanne of Overland Park, KS. She will be missed by her many extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Johnson; her parents; her step father, Leo Bonneau; her brother Doyal Hrabe. Joy C. Johnson 

William George Winslow, age 87, died at Clay County Medical Center on October 1, 2022. He was born in Liberty, NE to Richard and Lydia (Caulkins) Winslow on November 6, 1934. William was a graduate of Barnston High School in Nebraska.

 He joined the United States Army in 1952 and completed basic training at Camp Roberts in California. William then completed aviation mechanic’s and qualified on the M-1 rifle as a marksman. He was assigned to various units, including 1905th, 811th&nbsp;aviation engineering battalions in California and Seoul Korea for 3 years as well as various other units in Germany in the 50’s through 1965. In 1965, he was assigned as a senior mechanic in Fort Hood, TX then as a section chief to the 809th&nbsp;Engineering Battalion. William deployed to Thailand for a year. He returned from deployment to Fort Leonard Wood as section chief and was then moved to Baumholder, Germany until 1969. William ended his active-duty career in 1970 after a seven-month deployment to Phu Bai, Vietnam. He earned four good conduct and campaign medals. William enlisted in the Kansas National Guard in 1971 where he earned a meritorious service medal. He exited his military career as a sergeant first class.

 During various points in his military career, William also attended some classes at Kansas State University, and received a diploma in Computer Repair from international correspondence school in Pennsylvania. He married Margaret Roberts on November 4, 1956. She preceded him in death on April 26, 2019. He completed 80 hours as an instructor for engine rebuild techniques at Salina Vo-tech after his time in the service. William worked for and retired from RSMS on Fort Riley. He also worked for CASA for a few years as well as various other jobs. William was a member of the Masons. 

Though sometimes viewed as a “Grumpy Old Man,” William had the biggest heart and would help anyone. He loved going to the hospital for breakfast in the morning and visiting, he never met a stranger. William also had a passion for genealogy, but most of all he loved his furry companions, Lily and Ginger.&nbsp; In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents and brother: Harold Winslow.

William George Winslow, age 87, died at Clay County Medical Center on October 1, 2022. He was born in Liberty, NE to Richard and Lydia (Caulkins) Winslow on November 6, 1934. William was a graduate of Barnston High School in Nebraska. He joined the United States Army in 1952 and completed basic training at Camp Roberts in California. William then completed aviation mechanic’s and qualified on the M-1 rifle as a marksman. He was assigned to various units, including 1905th, 811th&nbsp;aviation engineering battalions in California and Seoul Korea for 3 years as well as various other units in Germany in the 50’s through 1965. In 1965, he was assigned as a senior mechanic in Fort Hood, TX then as a section chief to the 809th&nbsp;Engineering Battalion. William deployed to Thailand for a year. He returned from deployment to Fort Leonard Wood as section chief and was then moved to Baumholder, Germany until 1969. William ended his active-duty career in 1970 after a seven-month deployment to Phu Bai, Vietnam. He earned four good conduct and campaign medals. William enlisted in the Kansas National Guard in 1971 where he earned a meritorious service medal. He exited his military career as a sergeant first class. During various points in his military career, William also attended some classes at Kansas State University, and received a diploma in Computer Repair from international correspondence school in Pennsylvania. He married Margaret Roberts on November 4, 1956. She preceded him in death on April 26, 2019. He completed 80 hours as an instructor for engine rebuild techniques at Salina Vo-tech after his time in the service. William worked for and retired from RSMS on Fort Riley. He also worked for CASA for a few years as well as various other jobs. William was a member of the Masons. Though sometimes viewed as a “Grumpy Old Man,” William had the biggest heart and would help anyone. He loved going to the hospital for breakfast in the morning and visiting, he never met a stranger. Carey “Lee” Cunningham, 75 of Manchester passed away September 15, 2022 at Salina Regional Hospital. He was born July 18, 1947 in Johnstown, PA, the son of Charles and Viola (Ross) Cunningham. He enlisted in the United States Army February 17, 1971. He served in the Vietnam War as sergeant. Carey was an over the road trucker.

He is survived by his significant other, Brenda (Mussey) Presley. Daughters: Ann (Ron) Cummings and Joy-Lynn Carlson and one son, Scott (Tara) Cunningham. Linda Terese Gronquist, 72, of Alma, KS, passed away peacefully on, Friday, September 30, 2022, at Stormont Vail Hospital surrounded by her family.

Linda was born on April 8, 1950, in Kansas City, the daughter of Art and Sue Gillum Johnson. As a child she enjoyed childhood trips to Marquette, MI, a tradition she passed along to her own children during excursions to the island, wading in cold Lake Superior and enjoying pasties.

She attended Shawnee Mission North High School and Kansas State Teacher’s College, majoring in Education. She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority, serving as its Membership Chair and was thrilled when her granddaughter joined a sorority at ESU.

She was active in Girl Scouts as both a scout and a leader. Linda was also a gifted competitive dance roller skater, qualifying for both regional and national competitions and later teaching skating lessons.

She met her husband, David, on a blind date while in college. They married in 1972, enjoying trips to Hawaii, a cruise to Alaska for their 45th wedding anniversary, and a surprise party this past January to mark their 50th anniversary. He remains at their home in Alma along with their dog, Duo.

She worked for the State of Kansas for 36 years, starting as a Clerk Typist and advancing to a Procurement Officer IV, retiring in 2016. She belonged to the Kansas Association for Public Purchasing Professionals and was a Capital Representative for many years, serving as Membership Chair, Vice President, and President of the organization.

She was an active member of Peace United Church of Christ, serving on committees and the Consistory, including as President, and supporting White Memorial Camp.

Upon retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, including annual traditions of apple picking, pumpkin patch, summer vacations in Branson, Missouri, school programs, athletic events, and holiday baking – peanut brittle was her specialty! Those who were lucky enough to be on her Christmas card list looked forward to her letter with updates on the year’s happenings. She also enjoyed occasional trips to the casino, especially with her daughters, who were more fun than David, and took a trip to Las Vegas for her 40th wedding anniversary.

She leaves behind her husband, David, of Alma, KS and daughters, Julie Gronquist-Blodgett (Clifford) of Kansas City, Missouri, their children Izah, Jacob, Declan, Wally, and Emery, and Jessica Clark (Darius) of Overland Park, KS, their children Aaliyah and Jaeden, along with brother-in-law Paul Gronquist (Susan), and sister by a different mother, Sara Schubert, along with loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ginny, infant son, Anton, and brother-in-law, John.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Peace United Church of Christ in Alma, Kansas. Pastor Julia Gaughan will be officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. She was in her 71st year.&nbsp; Darlene was born to Orlin A. and Doris Irene (Kufahl) Falk on August 15th, 1951 in Westmoreland, KS.&nbsp; She was raised on a farm outside Wheaton, KS.&nbsp; She attended Wheaton schools until&nbsp;the end of 9th grade.&nbsp; In her youth she had many fond memories of her time in 4H.&nbsp;&nbsp;She graduated from Onaga High School in 1969.&nbsp; While in school, she enjoyed cheerleading and was named football homecoming queen her senior year.&nbsp; She married Steve Murray in January 1971 in Manhattan, KS.&nbsp; They have resided in Alma, KS since 1977.&nbsp;

She loved to attend Wabaunsee High School basketball games, there to support her husband, and kids while they played.&nbsp; She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Alma, and was a member of the altar&nbsp;society.&nbsp; Darlene was loved by many.&nbsp; Her proudest accomplishment in life was her family.&nbsp; Whether&nbsp;it was sporting events, rodeo's or any number or life's events, she was their biggest supporter.&nbsp; She especially cherished her relationships with her grandchildren.&nbsp; They were her world.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Darlene worked for the Wabaunsee County Extension Office and for most of her Career for the State of Kansas in SRS and Estate Recovery.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 7th&nbsp;at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church of Alma. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Marie “Mia” Elaina Ines, 54, of St. George, Kansas, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Leiomyosarcoma cancer at her home on October 1, 2022.

Mia bequeathed her body for scientific research due to the extreme rareness of her cancer. Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) accounts for less than 1% of all known cancers. Although her courageous battle with cancer has ended, we hope her request to have her body bequeathed for research will help others suffering from this rare form of cancer.

She was born on October 31, 1928, in Junction City, Kansas to John and Lottie (Eggleston) Estes. She was the youngest of five siblings. On October 18, 1958, she married William Hane in Gardena, CA. In 1964, they moved back to Junction City, KS, and raised their family. They had three kids; Linda, Kenneth, and William. She was a dedicated and hard working stay at home mother for her family. From 2000 to 2018, she worked in Sheridan Elementary School's cafeteria. She enjoyed being around the kids and considered all of the kids as her extended family. Meda is survived by her loving her daughter, Linda (Alan) Kidd of Junction City, KS; two sons, Kenneth (Tammy) Hane of Leavenworth County, KS, and William (Sean Kidd) Hane of Louisville, KY; grandson, Alex Kidd of Junction City, KS; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Patsy A. Pendergast, age 77, of Blue Rapids, passed away on September 30, 2022, at the Frankfort Care Home in Frankfort, Kansas.

Patsy was born August 17, 1945, at Frankfort, the daughter of Harold E. and Mary L. (Booth) Thomas.&nbsp; She married Jere J. Pendergast in Frankfort on March 8, 1964.&nbsp; He passed away in 2006.

Patsy was a homemaker.&nbsp; She enjoyed crochet, needle point, cross stitch, arts and crafts, reading and listening to music.&nbsp; She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and visiting with her sisters on the phone.

Survivors include her two children: Howard (Teri) Pendergast of Marysville and Tammy Bray of Palmer, two sisters: Connie (Alan) Johnson of Spencer, Iowa, and Beverly Childers of Council Bluffs, Iowa, five grandchildren: Jacqueline (Mitchell), Derek, Dylan, Joshua and Nathaniel, and five great grandchildren.

Preceding Patsy in death are her parents, husband Jere, an infant sister Sandra Thomas, and a brother in law, Terry Childers.

Viewing is from noon to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, with visitation between 6:30 and 8:00 pm, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

Graveside services are planned for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids with Dennis Holst officiating.&nbsp; A prerecorded selection of “I Can Only Imagine” will be played.&nbsp; Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids.

Pendergast in Frankfort on March 8, 1964.&nbsp; He passed away in 2006.Patsy was a homemaker.&nbsp; She enjoyed crochet, needle point, cross stitch, arts and crafts, reading and listening to music.&nbsp; She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and visiting with her sisters on the phone.Survivors include her two children: Howard (Teri) Pendergast of Marysville and Tammy Bray of Palmer, two sisters: Connie (Alan) Johnson of Spencer, Iowa, and Beverly Childers of Council Bluffs, Iowa, five grandchildren: Jacqueline (Mitchell), Derek, Dylan, Joshua and Nathaniel, and five great grandchildren.Preceding Patsy in death are her parents, husband Jere, an infant sister Sandra Thomas, and a brother in law, Terry Childers.Viewing is from noon to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, with visitation between 6:30 and 8:00 pm, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.Graveside services are planned for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids with Dennis Holst officiating.&nbsp; A prerecorded selection of “I Can Only Imagine” will be played.&nbsp; Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids.Memorials are suggested to the Frankfort Care Home&nbsp;and may be sent in care of Christie-Anderes Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.

Earnest Anders Hanson left this world on September 28th, 2022. He was born on May 10th, 1930 to Clarence W. and Linnea (Monthan) Hanson in Elkhart Kansas.

 He graduated from Hiawatha, KS. in 1948. From 1948 to 1959 he was a sergeant in the Army National Guard. He also worked for United Telephone CO. from 1948 till he retired in 1992. In March 1962 he married Shirley A. (Garrison) Edlin. Of that union he gained 3 sons: William (Rose) Edlin; Steven (Donna) Edlin; and Gregory (Beverly) Edlin. They were together until her passing in 2016. He is preceded in death by his parents and one great-grandson. He is survived by 2 brothers, 3 sons, 7 grand children, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

 A Memorial service for Earnest will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at the Enterprise Community Church in Enterprise. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Enterprise Community Church. Sharon Ann Bafford Meeks was born on May 7, 1941 to Eloise and Dellis Bafford. She was flown away to meet in person the Lover of her soul, friend, Lord and Savior September 27, 2022 on the birthday of her beloved daughter Celestina Johnson. Sharon spent the last 11 years of her life in Abilene becoming well known and loved in the community. Before that she lived in Portland Oregon and Emmett Idaho and spent some of her best years with her wonderful husband David Meeks who adored her. She was most proud of being a mother of four children and having been a nurses’ aid as a young woman. She was a caretaker and lover of people her whole life. Most who encountered her would mention how sweet she was. No one was a stranger, everyone a friend. Sharon’s joyful spirit and appreciation for having fun was contagious. With her God given superpower (LOVE) and by the grace of God, she was able to endure many trials in her life and continued to love unconditionally; no wonder so many people called her mom. Our most special, sweet, and spunky Mom and Nanna will be missed by so many including her four children, Celestina Johnson, Sharon Ross, James Pio and Jolynda Collier. As well as 12 grandchildren (local: Tony Lawson, Sarah Woods, and Cord Lawson) and 20 great grandchildren (local: Dammion Woods, Sierra Woods, Joshua Woods, Isaiah Woods and Gabriel Woods, Danna Lawson and Aiden Lawson). She was preceded in death by: Her mother Eloise and father Dellis Bafford her husband David Meeks, two of her sisters and her youngest brother.
