Wayne Murlin Ubel, 84, of Wamego, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in Wamego. He was a life-long resident of the area.

Wayne was born August 9, 1938, in Wamego, Kansas, the son of Murlin and Elizabeth (Jenkins) Ubel. His family lived six miles north of Belvue, Kansas, on Lost Creek Road. Wayne attended Lost Creek School and then through 8th grade in Belvue. He graduated from Wamego High School in 1956.

He worked for two years for WC Holtman Truck and Tractor Company. He joined the Kansas Army Reserves and served for six years. Wayne then began his forty-two-year career at the Wamego Telephone Company in 1961. He worked as the Treasurer, Comptroller, and Office Manager until his retirement in 2003. Wayne also served as the Treasurer and member of the company’s board of directors for thirty-two years.

Wayne was a member and past president of TASK (Telephone Accountants Service Klub of Kansas), and a board member for the Kansas Telephone Association. He was inducted into the Kansas Telecommunications Hall of Fame in 1996 and received his twenty-five and thirty five year Service Award from the National Telephone Cooperative Association.

Wayne was very active in the community. He was a member of the Wamego United Methodist Church and held several leadership positions over the years. He also served at the chairman of the Wamego Library Board for nine years, and served on the Wamego Planning Commission for eleven years. From 1969 until 1974, Wayne was the Wamego School Board Treasurer. He was 4-H Leader and a member and past president of the Optimist Club. Wayne loved spending time with his family, friends, and especially his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Wayne married Rita Blanka on August 6, 1965, at the Louisville Methodist Church. She survives.

Wayne is also survived by his children; Loren Wayne Ubel, of Wamego and Lora Elizabeth Graff (Bill), of Riverside, Missouri; his grandchildren, William Wayne Graff and Lily Lei Graff; and his brother, Raymond Ubel (Renita), of Baldwin City. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Wayne will be buried in Wamego City Cemetery. Services will be private. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Wayne and Rita Ubel Scholarship Fund, and those may be sent in care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home.

Phillip Ray Grubbs, 84, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022. He was born February 10, 1938, in Quincy, Illinois.

He worked for 18 years as a truck driver for Apex Construction.

He was preceded in death by parents; Daniel Lee and C. "Oneta" 
(Meyer) Grubbs, his son; Phillip R. Grubbs Jr., in 2019, 2 sisters; 
Ramona G. Goodwin, and Lillie Stock, and 1 brother; Gene Grubbs in 2020.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years; Evelyn R. (May) 
Grubbs, a brother; Daniel Dean Grubbs and his wife; Karen, a 
sister-in-law; Edna Grubbs; and his in-laws; Robert May of Ewing, MO., 
Wayne May and his wife Judy of Idaho, Joan Brackney of Chapman, Alice 
Disney and her husband Bob of Delphos, and Danny May and his wife Sandy 
of Chicago, IL., and an aunt Wilma Frontier of Junction City, and a 
step-grandson; Doug Tabler and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, from 12:00 noon 
until 1:00pm, just one hour prior to the start of his funeral service at
 1:30pm at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford, Salina.

Margaret Mae Suiter, 84, passed away on November 24, 2022 at Homestead Health Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born October 29, 1938, in St. Clair County, Missouri, the first of three daughters born to Albert B. and Allie Marguerite Suiter. Margaret had several lifelong disabilities but refused to be limited by them. She enjoyed taking pictures and keeping photo albums, writing letters, reading, and country music. Though she never left the home of her parents, family will fondly remember how she liked to take charge of the household by doing daily chores, making sure all the kids behaved when visiting, and keeping track of just about everything and everyone. Her strong will and independent spirit will be dearly missed and admired by family and friends. Survived by her youngest sister, Betty; her nieces, Natalie Fleming, Penny Rice, and Angela Chavez; her nephews, Bill Kausler and Michael Scott; and many more extended family members. She married John Savage and he preceded her in death.

Loretta did clerical work for a department store in Denver.

Michael Hurd Steinsiek, 86, of Clay Center, died Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at the Ascencion Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born August 28, 1936 in Clayton, Oklahoma, the son of Bert and Hazel (Hurd) Steinsiek.

Michael grew up in Clayton, Oklahoma.&nbsp; He attended and played football at the University of Oklahoma.&nbsp; Michael married JoAnn Heitman on June 3, 1956.&nbsp; He worked as a salesman for Custom Fence in Longmont, Colorado.&nbsp; The couple moved to Clay Center in 2007.&nbsp; He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, was an avid fisherman and was a regular at the Tasty Pastry Bakery.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Heitman of Clay Center; 2 sons, Rick Steinsiek of Lake George, CO. and Michael Dirk and wife, Carol Steinsiek of Littleton, CO.; 3 grandchildren, Joshua (Brittney) Steinsiek, Heather (Dan) Foggin and Candice Steinsiek and 13 great grandchildren.

Truman Ezra Woellhof died on November 28, 2022, at the age of 91 doing what he loved - working in his workshop. A farmer in the Oakhill area for over 60 years, he raised crops and livestock, and could fix almost anything that needed repair. Restoring vehicles was a favorite of many hobbies. He spent many months working on a 1917 Model-T, a 1950 Chevy, an Allis-Chalmers tractor and a 1938 bulldozer. Using walnut and oak from the property, he made beautiful wood projects. Whenever conditions were good for fishing, he'd be ready to head out and drop a line. After retirement from farming, he enjoyed many rounds of golf with his brother, Eldon, in Chapman.

"Ezzie" served in the National Guard for 2 years and was also a member of the Masons. In his early years, he played on the Oakhill slow-pitch team, eventually being the senior member as a pitcher. He was a member of the Oakhill Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and was often the first volunteer on improvements at the church. For over 20 years, Truman and Leona wintered in Texas and Arizona in their RV. Longtime KSU fans, they often brought the RV to home games for tailgating with friends and family.

Stricken with Guillain-Barre Syndrome in 2013, he fought back from complete paralysis and defied predictions from the doctors that he would never walk again. After working tirelessly for 6 months in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities, he finally returned home.

Truman was born on 12/27/1930 to Ezra and Grace (Ford) Woellhof in Clay County Kansas. He had 5 siblings, Gwain Woellhof, Richard Woellhof, Melvin Woellhof, Phyllis Hartner and Eldon Woellhof. On February 12, 1952, he married Leona Binder, celebrating their 70th&nbsp;anniversary earlier this year.

They had 3 daughters: Debra (Jerry) Braden, Dana Barnes and Tamara (Dave) Douglass. &nbsp;There are 5 grandchildren, Lindsay (Chris) Clinton, Brett Barnes, Scott (Jenna) Douglass, Conner (Haley) Douglass and Logan Douglass. Greatgrandchildren are Avery Douglass, Jackson Douglass, Mason Douglass, Chase Clinton, Ezra John (EJ) Clinton, Grant Clinton and Vivian Douglass.&nbsp; One brother, Eldon Woellhof.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Phyllis and brothers Gwain, Melvin and Richard.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center.&nbsp;

Blanche Angela Haug, 88, beloved wife and mother, passed from this life on November 28, 2022. She was born September 18, 1934 in Seneca, KS, the daughter of Walter and Theresa (Fangman) Stallbaumer. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in St. Benedict, a small town near Seneca, in 1952. Blanche was united in marriage to Lambert Haug on January 25, 1955. They chose Abilene as their home in 1957 and raised their 7 children there, growing together in love and faith in their 67 years of marriage. As her children left home, Blanche entered the real estate business in Abilene with her husband. Her warm and genuine personality led her to be a successful realtor at Haug Realty. Her smile and kind words always had a way of warming the hearts and lifting the spirit of those around her, even in her final days. She had a devout love for Jesus and was passionate about her Catholic faith. She modeled this by always encouraging her family to grow in their faith and praying for them always. In her later years she and her husband were fortunate to make religious pilgrimages, domestic and abroad to Venezuela, the Holy Land, and Rome, including a general audience with Pope John Paul II. These travels deepened her faith and devotion to God. Blanche was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, the Ladies of St. Andrew, and Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed volunteering there, as well as the Abilene Clothing Bank. She was a wonderful cook, known for her delicious pies and chocolate chip cookies. She loved playing bridge and visiting over coffee with friends while still active. Blanche spent the last few months of her life being cared for at home by her loving family. Barbara Suzanne Tomb, age 80, passed away Ad Astra on November 27, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi hospital in Manhattan, KS, with her family by her side.

Barbara was born on April 27, 1942, to Irving and Pauline (Warner) Gallup in Troy, NY. The family later moved to Tulsa, OK, where Barbara graduated from Marquette High School. She attended the University of Oklahoma and received BS and MS degrees in microbiology. During her undergraduate years, Barbara worked as a med tech assistant in a Washington, DC, hospital – she delighted in recalling her time there and was always proud to have been in the city the summer of 1963, when the March on Washington occurred.

Following her post-secondary degree, Barbara briefly moved to New Jersey to work for Merck Pharmaceutical Labs; however, she felt compelled to move closer to home and found work at the Research Clinical Pathology Lab at the University of Texas MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, TX.

It was in her building at the hospital that she met the love of her life, Andrew Spencer Tomb III, who, on their first date in February 1967, took her to a Galveston, TX, beach and showed her his new book on plants, as a budding botanist does. She fell in love with him anyway, and they married on September 2, 1967, in Tulsa, followed by a honeymoon in Mexico which allowed Spencer to collect very romantic plant specimens.

While Spencer pursued his post-secondary education at the University of Texas – Austin, Barbara worked in a university biochemistry lab. She then enrolled in night school classes to earn a high school teaching certificate and taught earth science and chemistry for two years at Crockett High School in Austin while supporting Spencer through his degree programs. She was a valuable field assistant – ever-ready to assist in plant specimen collecting in the deserts and mountains of the western United States for Spencer’s dissertation and post-graduate work.

The couple briefly lived in the suburbs of Chicago, IL, where Barbara again found work in a medical lab, before the now-family-of-three moved to Manhattan.

Barbara gave birth to three sons, Andrew and twin boys, Sean and Mark. Because of the lack of ultrasound technology at the time, they hoped her second pregnancy would produce a girl – delivery proved to be a surprise to mom, dad, and doctor, close family friend Dr. Ron Marshall, when two boys were born one after the other. Upon the birth of the twins, Barbara became a stay-at-home mother.

Later in life, Barbara worked at the K-State Sensory Analysis Center in Manhattan as a sensory analyst. She tasted various foods and sampled products from around the world and provided feedback along with her fellow analysts. She always suspected it, but it was confirmed through her work that her palette was very, very sensitive to garlic. She loved the work and her co-workers. A highlight was a working trip to Berlin, Germany, with her co-workers.

Barbara was an avid artist – sewing, needlepoint, cross-stitching, knitting, macrame, weaving, wheat weaving, smocking, painting, toll painting, and stained glass. She loved cooking and creating her own recipes. She was a prolific reader of mysteries and suspense novels, somehow always managing to place the first hold on a new book at the Manhattan Public Library just a moment before everyone else. It is unknown if there was ever a British series on PBS that she did not watch and enjoy. Christmas was a favorite holiday – the Christmas tree was always beautifully decorated, with bright, sparkling presents with homemade bows stacked underneath, the result of her year-long attempt to find just the perfect gifts. And, as the mom of three growing boys, Barbara could coupon and shop for deals with the best of them – on anything.

Her family will miss their knitted winter hats they received each Christmas, her infectious laugh, her kindness and friendship, and of course, her extraordinary cooking – cheesecake, jam cookies, the annual “Christmas goodies plate” and her special Christmas jam, German chocolate cake, lime pie, and her apple butter, orange jam, and orange marmalade.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, brother Joseph Gallup, and brothers-in-law Bill Taylor and Norman Brode. Survivors include her husband, Spencer Tomb of the home, sons Andrew Tomb (Amanda Meek) of Riley, KS, and Sean Tomb (Heather O’Hara) and Mark Tomb (Julie Finn), both of Lawrence, KS, and granddaughter Aleana Tomb of Olathe, KS.

Other survivors include brother Jim (Jackie) Gallup of Woodridge, VA, sisters-in-law Helen Tomb-Taylor of Conroe, TX, and Sarah Brode of Crystal Beach, TX, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Following cremation, a visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8th, from 4-6 p.m. at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in honor of Barbara to the Manhattan Public Library. Charles William King, age 82, a longtime Deep Creek Community resident, died November 26, 2022, at Brewster Place in Topeka, where he had lived since July of 2022.

He was born September 10, 1940, in Centralia, Illinois, the son of William Charles and Frances Marian (Purcell) King.

On September 12, 1970, in Springfield, Missouri, he was married to Patricia Louise Stokes. Mrs. King survives Charles in Topeka. Additional survivors include his three children: Denise King and her husband Uwe Haensel of Bad Homburg, Germany, Cayla King and her husband Troy Brown of Rossville, KS, and William King and his wife Jessie King of Manhattan; one sister Patricia King of Manhattan; and five grandchildren: Blake Laurel and Dalton Brown, Isabell King and Avery Jones.

Charles served for 22 years in the United States Army, and honorably retired at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4, on January 1, 1982. His area of work was criminal investigations and as a polygraph examiner. He had received numerous awards and commendations including National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon “2“, and the Legion of Merit.

Charles always aspired to learn. In his retirement, he attended Kansas State University and earned several Masters Degrees in Animal Science, Agronomy, and Spanish. Charles also farmed in the Deep Creek Community, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and woodworking. He was a member of the Rural Water District for many years, the American Legion Post 31 in Rossville, and the Optimist Club in Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 9th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10th, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4483 Vinyard Road, Wamego, KS. Interment with military honors will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Zeandale.&nbsp; he family will have a lunch and celebration of Charles’ life from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Deep Creek Community Center.

Doris Mae Givens, age 95, of Manhattan, died November 24, 2022, at Honstead House – Meadowlark Hills.

She was born March 10, 1927, in Manhattan, the daughter of Thomas O. and Gladys M. (Howenstine) McClung.&nbsp; Both preceded her in death.

Doris was married to Jay Edwin Givens on October 5, 1947, in Manhattan. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1989.

Doris was a homemaker and enjoyed crafts and decorating. She assisted with establishing a federation for the mentally retarded in Manhattan, Kansas.

She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Survivors include her daughter Mary Givens of Manhattan, and her step-daughter Faith Rupp of Tucson, AZ.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter Virginia Beth Givens on June 21, 2002, and by her older sister Betty Lovell and her younger brother Thomas McClung.

Doris Mae Givens

Gerald “Jerome” Berry passed away at the Wroten House, Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan on Thursday, November 18th, 2022, following an extended battle with Parkinson's disease. He enjoyed the staff and residents at Wroten House and would express his contentment with his situation and the hand he had been dealt. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Wroten house for the care they provided Jerome.

Jerome was born at home in Pottawatomie County on July 4th, 1941, the son of Jerry Berry and Opal Tilton Berry. He attended elementary schools in both Yakima, Washington, and Garrison Kansas, and graduated from Randolph high school with the class of 1959. His family relocated to Manhattan because of the construction of Tuttle Creek Dam. He later attended barber college in Topeka and barbered for several years before beginning to work for the Topeka Capital-Journal newspaper, first in distribution and later as district manager until retirement.

Jerome was united in marriage to Sonja Ericson on August 11th, 1962. A daughter Jada was born into this union. Jada was united in marriage to Steve Hinrichs and two granddaughters Misty and Ashley were added to the family along with Misty’s son Cameron Opat, the great-grandson. Being a great-grandpa brought him great happiness. He and Cameron were buddies with riding scooters, and motorcycles, doing yard work, and various projects.

Jerome enjoyed country music, westerns, movies in general, and especially the TV show “Heartland.” He loved K state sports, especially football having attended games since the 1960s. He had season tickets until he moved to Meadowlark and attended as many of the bowl games as possible.

Besides his family, coaching softball was probably his greatest joy. He spent many years coaching girls' fast-pitch softball starting when Jada played city league and on to traveling teams. Long after Jada no longer played, he started the “Lady Lightning” teams. With the help of an earth-moving construction company, team families, and friends, he built a ball diamond in the field behind his house. The friendships he developed with the girls and their families were so important to him and many of those relationships remain still today. His teams were highly competitive, and he only scheduled those types of tournaments every weekend all summer long in surrounding states. One of his teams had all but one starting player go on to start college scholarships in one sport or another. He used to say with pride that the girls were so talented that many times all that he needed to say as their coach, was “sic em.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Billy; a sister Nadine and her husband Henry Peterson; a brother Jerry Don and a sister Adeline Schwedt. He is survived by his wife Sonja of the home, daughter Jada Hinrichs and husband Steve; granddaughters Misty and Ashley Hinrichs; great-grandson Cameron Opat and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jerome enjoyed talking to people, whether he knew them or not, and made friends easily. He loved to make people laugh and have a good time and was often found at the center of a group of people enjoying themselves.

Cremation has taken place, and a private inurnment will be held at a later date.

A celebration of life will be held at the Manhattan Union Pacific Train Depot, 120 Fort Riley Blvd, Manhattan, KS, on December 11th, 2022, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.&nbsp; Friends and relatives are invited to attend in Jerome's honor.

A Memorial Fund is planned in Jerome’s honor to help local girls in tough economic situations to have equal access to sports opportunities. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Jerome Berry Girls in Sports Memorial Fund with the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation and may be directed to either the foundation or the funeral home.

He attended elementary schools in both Yakima, Washington, and Garrison Kansas, and graduated from Randolph high school with the class of 1959. His family relocated to Manhattan because of the construction of Tuttle Creek Dam. He later attended barber college in Topeka and barbered for several years before beginning to work for the Topeka Capital-Journal newspaper, first in distribution and later as district manager until retirement.Jerome was united in marriage to Sonja Ericson on August 11th, 1962. A daughter Jada was born into this union. Jada was united in marriage to Steve Hinrichs and two granddaughters Misty and Ashley were added to the family along with Misty’s son Cameron Opat, the great-grandson. Being a great-grandpa brought him great happiness. He and Cameron were buddies with riding scooters, and motorcycles, doing yard work, and various projects.Jerome enjoyed country music, westerns, movies in general, and especially the TV show “Heartland.” He loved K state sports, especially football having attended games since the 1960s. He had season tickets until he moved to Meadowlark and attended as many of the bowl games as possible.Besides his family, coaching softball was probably his greatest joy. He spent many years coaching girls' fast-pitch softball starting when Jada played city league and on to traveling teams. Long after Jada no longer played, he started the “Lady Lightning” teams. With the help of an earth-moving construction company, team families, and friends, he built a ball diamond in the field behind his house. The friendships he developed with the girls and their families were so important to him and many of those relationships remain still today. His teams were highly competitive, and he only scheduled those types of tournaments every weekend all summer long in surrounding states. One of his teams had all but one starting player go on to start college scholarships in one sport or another. He used to say with pride that the girls were so talented that many times all that he needed to say as their coach, was “sic em.”He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Billy; a sister Nadine and her husband Henry Peterson; a brother Jerry Don and a sister Adeline Schwedt. He is survived by his wife Sonja of the home, daughter Jada Hinrichs and husband Steve; granddaughters Misty and Ashley Hinrichs; great-grandson Cameron Opat and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.Jerome enjoyed talking to people, whether he knew them or not, and made friends easily. He loved to make people laugh and have a good time and was often found at the center of a group of people enjoying themselves.Cremation has taken place, and a private inurnment will be held at a later date.A celebration of life will be held at the Manhattan Union Pacific Train Depot, 120 Fort Riley Blvd, Manhattan, KS, on December 11th, 2022, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.&nbsp; Friends and relatives are invited to attend in Jerome's honor.A Memorial Fund is planned in Jerome’s honor to help local girls in tough economic situations to have equal access to sports opportunities. Lyle H. Honig, 86, died November 29, 2022, in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born on September 7, 1936, in Wheaton, Kansas to Otto and Adele (Figge) Honig. He was the youngest of four children.

He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Onaga High School in 1954. He worked briefly at the Onaga Herald newspaper before joining the Wamego Times newspaper in 1956, for H. O. and Maxine Dendurent and continuing for Mark Portell in 1980. He retired in 2015, a loyal employee for nearly 60 years. He joined the Army Reserves in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1965. He was a member of the American Legion Post 172 in Wamego.

He was active in the community. He loved playing cards, spending time with his family, and meeting with friends for coffee at the Friendly Cooker. He was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Wamego until his death.

He married Thelma (Anderson) Boskill on June 8, 1968, in Topeka, Kansas. She preceded him in death in 2007. He embraced his role as father to the four daughters she brought to their marriage. They settled in Wamego. A son, Lyle Jr., was born in 1969. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.

He is survived by his children, Susan (Larry) Rush, Elana Mishelle, Janet Boskill, Patti (Wayne) Schierkolk, and Lyle (Robert) Honig Mojica; grandchildren, Jared Schierkolk, Jessica (Jay) Long, Ryan (Sara) Rush, and Tyler Rush; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Lavina Kolterman and Marcella Fairbanks; in-laws, Ginger (Larry) Self, Jim (Marinell) Anderson, Don (Bernice) Anderson, and Richard Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; his parents, Otto and Adele Honig, and his brother, Norman Honig.

Aaron was born on November 15, 1947, in Great Bend, 
Kansas, to Glenn E. and Marilyn L. (Bortz) Maresch. &nbsp;He was united in 
marriage to Barbara Ann Essmiller in October of 1968 in Great Bend and 
they later divorced. &nbsp;Aaron served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS 
Norfolk. He was an engineer and owned and operated Aaron’s Repair &amp; 
Supply Inc. which he started in 1978. &nbsp;Aaron’s business and legacy will 
proceed to operate under Tom Malone and Devon Nelson. Aaron was&nbsp;a 
dedicated Barton&nbsp;County Fair Association Board Member since 1980. Aaron 
loved his family and friends fiercely. &nbsp;He had a passion for making a 
difference in the lives of so many, especially through 4-H. He loved to 
fish, enjoy a good western, entertain friends and family, play with his 
border collie Dot, and enjoy life to its fullest. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Margaret Mae Suiter, 84, passed away on November 24, 2022 at Homestead Health Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born October 29, 1938, in St. Clair County, Missouri, the first of three daughters born to Albert B. and Allie Marguerite Suiter. Margaret had several lifelong disabilities but refused to be limited by them. She enjoyed taking pictures and keeping photo albums, writing letters, reading, and country music. Though she never left the home of her parents, family will fondly remember how she liked to take charge of the household by doing daily chores, making sure all the kids behaved when visiting, and keeping track of just about everything and everyone. Her strong will and independent spirit will be dearly missed and admired by family and friends. Survived by her youngest sister, Betty; her nieces, Natalie Fleming, Penny Rice, and Angela Chavez; her nephews, Bill Kausler and Michael Scott; and many more extended family members. In her free time, she loved to spend time in her flower garden, watch birds play in the bird baths, and walking her dogs. She was also a member of First Christian Church and was very active in the women's bible study groups. EllaMae Argo, age 88, of Marysville, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Community Memorial Health Care in Marysville.

EllaMae was born May 5, 1934, in Forest City, Iowa to Carl and Daisy W. (Weaver) Prescott.&nbsp; After high school she went on to study nursing at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and became a Registered Nurse. She began her nursing career at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.&nbsp; While there she attended Omaha Bible Institute where she met her future husband Don.&nbsp; They were married on June 11, 1956, at Forest City, Iowa.&nbsp; After Don completed Medical School he spent a short term in the US Army, EllaMae and Don then moved to Marysville in 1965, where they raised there seven children.

EllaMae was very active in child evangelism and enjoyed working with the AWANA program with the Berean Church.&nbsp; EllaMae and Don were instrumental in building both Victory Baptist Church and the Berean Church.&nbsp; She also enjoyed cross stitch, spending many hours making quilt blocks for others who made the quilts.&nbsp; She loved her family and worked to ensure each of them knew her Lord.

Survivors include her husband Don, their seven children: Dr. Tanya (Dr. Chris Striebich) Argo of Denver, Colorado, Kathy (David) Totten of Marysville, Tim (Shannon) Argo of Rochester, Minnesota, Matt (Christy) Argo of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Mike (Marsha) Argo of Clay Center, Cheryl (Roy) Hanschu of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Jon (Mindy) Argo of Bremen, a sister Dorothy (Arnie) Karch of Bozeman, Montana, thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Preceding EllaMae in death were her parents, a sister Frances Prescott, a brother John Prescott and a great grandson Beckett Totten.

Jamie Jones, passed away on November 22, 2022, in Manhattan, KS. He was 32 years old.

Jamie was born in Greenville, North Carolina in 1990. He spent his early years in North Carolina and moved with his family to Manhattan, KS in 1994.

Jamie was a Christian and gave his life to the Lord at the age of 9. He was active in the youth ministry of the Manhattan Church of Christ, where he participated in Bible Bowl and Leadership Training for Christ competitions in Oklahoma and Kansas. He was named an Outstanding Camper at Silver Maple Church Camp and was an avid swimmer. Jamie attended Rock Hills Church in his later years.

Jamie loved to travel with his family and friends. His favorite trips were to Kansas State University bowl games, Disneyworld and Disneyland, Denver, Miami, and New Orleans, with many trips to concerts and the beach. Spring Break trips with friends were some of his most memorable and fun times.

Jamie loved sports of all kinds. He tried his hand at several activities, including piano, martial arts, guitar, and drums. He played parks and recreation T-Ball, soccer, and baseball. He played youth golf with Earl Woods First Tee Academy at Colbert Hills Golf Course. But his real love was football. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Hurricanes football teams. He played two years with the Manhattan Panthers football team and with Anthony Middle School football team. He also played freshman football at Manhattan High School. Jamie was also part of the MHS junior varsity and varsity football teams. In his junior year, his team went to substate against Hutchinson High, and had a devastating loss before the state championship game. Jamie lettered for two years, and he earned his "Bones" his senior year. In addition to other awards, Jamie was named the outstanding player on his team, winning the Jack Wilson Award. He was honored on a plaque still on display at Manhattan High School. Jamie was honored as a second team selection for the Kansas Shrine Bowl. Jamie excelled at sports data and was the luckiest person we knew.

Jamie signed for college football at Fort Scott Community College. After Fort Scott, Jamie attended Kansas State University while working various jobs in the community, working for Larson Construction for the last several years.

Jamie brought sunshine into our lives every day. We loved him and will miss him. May God continue to bless all who knew him and were touched by this incredible person.

Ramona Lee Schierbaum Printz-Smith, 93, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022, at her home. Cremation will take place. A visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday, December 02, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, December 03, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the J.C. Little Theater. She was born on September 21, 1929, the daughter of Vane and Gladys Schierbaum on a farm near Concordia, Kansas. Ramona graduated from Concordia High School in 1947, then obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Ottawa University in 1951. In 1949, she married Lloyd Printz of Clay Center, Kansas. They had three children; Gregory, Bradley, and Deanna. In 1993, married Don Smith. Ramona taught piano lessons and music education classes for over forty years. Twenty of those years were spent at Junction City High School teaching piano, music theory, and vocal classes. For many years, Ramona spent her time serving as a musical director, accompanist, and seamstress for many theater productions at the JC Little Theater. She also dedicated time to the First Presbyterian Church by playing the organ for around twenty years, she wrote church articles for the monthly newsletter for over twelve years, and served two terms as an elder. Over the years, Ramona was a very active member of the community and advocate for arts in many capacities. She also advocated for equal pay for women in the school district. Not only did she get to teach and share her passion of music, but she also helped celebrate the small achievements with her students. Her positive outlook and wonderful presence will be dearly missed. Fun Facts: She had two separates holes-in-one while playing golf, of which she was so proud. After retirement, Ramona enjoyed traveling with Don on many different adventures. She wrote her memoirs in her seventies, which is over three-hundred pages and has so many rich memories to pass on to her loved ones. At the age of seventy, she performed a full piano recital at the church. Ramona was nominated for the Master Teacher Award in 1985. Lastly, she was a contestant on The Price Is Right in 2004. Joan was born in Abilene, Kansas, on May 17, 1938, and was the fourth of seven children born to Clarence Leroy King Sr. She powered through life with her family and friends, plus her love of dancing, listening to the greats such as Elvis and Willie Nelson, and would always tap her foot and swing her arms to good guitar riffs and a swinging piano. She met the late Joe Martinez and the two were married on February 6, 1955. They soon welcomed four children throughout their marriage. After the end of their marriage, Joan met and married Doil DePew on July 22, 1984 and the two remained together until Doil's passing in March 1995. Joan is survived by her best friend and loyal companion who has always been by her side, her dog, Chika Bonita; her children, J. Micheal (Siegrid Sloan) Martinez, Deborah J. (James) Glessner-Heggie, Jolita M. (Kenton) Tully, and Stephen (Stacey Rucker) Martinez; her siblings, Lois Wier, Karen Rhondenbaugh, and Edith Hurting; her five grandchildren, Jasmine Glessner, Shane Glessner, Andrya Mertz, Leticia Martinez and Kayla Tully; and four great-grandchildren. Erika Ransom, a long-time resident of Junction City, Kansas died peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2022. She was born on April 3rd, 1938, to Xavier and Elsa (Schlosser) Wanner in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. She immigrated to the United States after marrying Tracy Ransom, Sr in 1960, and raised six children; Erika, Hans Peter, Thomas, Robert Leroy, William and Tracy Ransom, Jr. As an Army wife, she lived in various places throughout the US and came to love this country. She became a Naturalized Citizen in 1967. Over the years, she enjoyed work in the Hospitality field and as a Homemaker. You could often find her fishing, playing BINGO, trying her luck at the slot machine, or as was often the case, sitting at her kitchen table having coffee while visiting with family and friends. She always kept an eye out for Indigo Buntings and the many Hummingbirds that frequented the feeder outside her window. Erika’s laughter and smile were truly infectious! She was always willing to get up early to make her children, grandchildren and even a neighbor or two, a German Pancake! She was a strong and resilient woman, who will be missed greatly by her family and friends. Erika is survived by one brother, Franz Wanner of Germany; one sister, Heide (Gottfrid) Koso of Chicago, Illinois; and her four sons; Hans Peter Ransom of Claremore, Oklahoma, Thomas Ransom of Coco Beach, Florida, William Exavier (Lynn) Ransom of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tracy (Andrea) Ransom, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; and one daughter, Erika (Quintin) Hatchett of Milford, Kansas. Greg(ory) Douglas Wells, age 71 of Manhattan, died peacefully with his children by his side on Friday, November 25, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas.&nbsp;

Greg was born on January 4, 1951, in Manhattan, KS to Guy Justin and Leota Mae (Pascal) Wells. He joined his sister Barb at home in Manhattan where he lived until graduating high school in 1969. While growing up he was an active member of the local boy scout troop, where he earned Eagle Scout status. He was also a member of the Manhattan High School football team and choir.&nbsp;

He met his future wife Denise Ann Dixon in middle school through the United Methodist Church in Manhattan. On December 20, 1970, they were joined in marriage there as well. After marriage, he and Denise were at home in Emporia, KS, where he attended the Emporia State Teacher’s College and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.&nbsp;

In 1977, Greg and Denise joined his sister Barb and her husband Larry in the management of the Tiawah Hills Dude Ranch, in Claremore, Oklahoma. His love of horses was well suited to, the job. In 1980, his daughter, Samantha Kate was born, soon followed by Sean Alan in 1981.&nbsp; The family moved back to Manhattan, KS in 1982.&nbsp; Greg resided with his wife Denise and children at the house on North 48th&nbsp;Street until its loss to a grass fire in 2018.

Greg worked as an office specialist in the KSU Division of Biology for 30+ years. While at K-State he led many 1st&nbsp;grade field trips through the building learning about the natural history and wildlife of the area. Greg was an active adult leader of the Riley, KS Boy Scout troop and enjoyed teaching the boys and young men some of the finer arts of camping skills.&nbsp;

To some, Greg was known (or unknown) as Santa Claus for the Sedalia Church Christmas program or the Santa Paws fundraiser for the Humane Society held and the Candlewood Veterinary Clinic. To others, he was the “Voice of the Falcons”, announcing many different sports events over the years. He joked that once he announced an entire football game without a microphone. His voice was ‘booming’ enough to do just that – you always knew when Greg had entered the room. What many don’t know, is that he managed to do all of that while also caring for his wife, Denise through her extended illness. He was a devoted husband who’s love and commitment to his wife never wavered. He was also the most supportive, caring, fun, and loving father and grandfather.&nbsp;

In his later years, Greg’s mobility had been greatly reduced to due an injury from a fall in 2014. After the fire, Greg resided in Redbud Estates, where he remained until just recently. In this time, he enjoyed the continuation of his lifelong love of trivia and crossword puzzles (in pen) and watching football. If you visited Greg, you could almost guarantee that a game or program relating to football would be on.&nbsp;

He is survived by his children, Samantha Nott and her husband Eric of Shawnee, KS, and Sean Wells and his wife Christina of Margaretville, NY; his sister Barb(ara) Turnbull and her husband Larry of Downingtown, PA; two grandchildren, Brayden Wells and Dixon Nott. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Carol Dixon, and sisters-in-law, Madelyn Short (Terry), and Cheri Vines (Billie).&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Denise Ann Dixon in 2002; his parents; father-in-law, Lyle Dixon, and nephew, Brian Hood.&nbsp;

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.&nbsp;

After marriage, he and Denise were at home in Emporia, KS, where he attended the Emporia State Teacher’s College and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.&nbsp;In 1977, Greg and Denise joined his sister Barb and her husband Larry in the management of the Tiawah Hills Dude Ranch, in Claremore, Oklahoma. His love of horses was well suited to, the job. In 1980, his daughter, Samantha Kate was born, soon followed by Sean Alan in 1981.&nbsp; The family moved back to Manhattan, KS in 1982.&nbsp; Greg resided with his wife Denise and children at the house on North 48th&nbsp;Street until its loss to a grass fire in 2018.Greg worked as an office specialist in the KSU Division of Biology for 30+ years. While at K-State he led many 1st&nbsp;grade field trips through the building learning about the natural history and wildlife of the area. Greg was an active adult leader of the Riley, KS Boy Scout troop and enjoyed teaching the boys and young men some of the finer arts of camping skills.&nbsp;To some, Greg was known (or unknown) as Santa Claus for the Sedalia Church Christmas program or the Santa Paws fundraiser for the Humane Society held and the Candlewood Veterinary Clinic. To others, he was the “Voice of the Falcons”, announcing many different sports events over the years. He joked that once he announced an entire football game without a microphone. His voice was ‘booming’ enough to do just that – you always knew when Greg had entered the room. What many don’t know, is that he managed to do all of that while also caring for his wife, Denise through her extended illness. He was a devoted husband who’s love and commitment to his wife never wavered. He was also the most supportive, caring, fun, and loving father and grandfather.&nbsp;In his later years, Greg’s mobility had been greatly reduced to due an injury from a fall in 2014. After the fire, Greg resided in Redbud Estates, where he remained until just recently. In this time, he enjoyed the continuation of his lifelong love of trivia and crossword puzzles (in pen) and watching football. If you visited Greg, you could almost guarantee that a game or program relating to football would be on.&nbsp;He is survived by his children, Samantha Nott and her husband Eric of Shawnee, KS, and Sean Wells and his wife Christina of Margaretville, NY; his sister Barb(ara) Turnbull and her husband Larry of Downingtown, PA; two grandchildren, Brayden Wells and Dixon Nott. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Carol Dixon, and sisters-in-law, Madelyn Short (Terry), and Cheri Vines (Billie).&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Denise Ann Dixon in 2002; his parents; father-in-law, Lyle Dixon, and nephew, Brian Hood.&nbsp;Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.&nbsp;In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Manhattan Optimist Club or U.S.D. 378 Riley County Athletics. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.&nbsp;
