LaVone Erickson, 94 died November 25, 2022, in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp; She was born on March 22, 1928, in Clay Center, the daughter of John Bernard and Lottie (Wachsnicht) Lind.&nbsp; LaVone was raised in Clay Center and was a Class of 1945 graduate from Clay Center High School.&nbsp; She married Oran Erickson on October 19, 1947.&nbsp; LaVone worked as the Deputy Register of Deeds for six years.&nbsp; She also served on the Clay County Election Board for 35 years.&nbsp; Oran preceded her in death on April 10, 2017.&nbsp; LaVone was a member of the Clay Center Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Ronald Erickson; granddaughter, Lisa Erickson; sister, Bernice Berggren; brother, LeRoy Lind

A few years later sister Pearl was adopted.&nbsp; They farmed in Exeter township in Clay County, where Harold farmed until his retirement.&nbsp; He married Floy Marie Davis on July 12, l939.&nbsp; They were blessed with 4 children.&nbsp; Beverly Floy (Hartner) Ralstin, Darlene Marie (Hartner) Strader, Ethel Rose (Hartner) Ericksen, and Forrest Harold Hartner.&nbsp; His wife Floy died June 21, l982.&nbsp; Harold remarried to Arleen Neef December 6, l983.&nbsp; Harold and Floy built a home in Clay Center in l960 where he lived until he and Arleen moved to the Presbyterian Manor in 2013.&nbsp; He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ethel Rose Ericksen; son, Forrest Hartner; sister, Pearl Oelschlager and brother, Harlan Hartner.

Harold Frederick Hartner

John Wesley Willey III, Topeka, KS, left this world to join his beloved wife on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born October 2nd, 1938 in Solomon, KS–the only child to John Wesley Willey Jr and Henrietta M Wolfe. A graduate of Solomon High School, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Arlene P Haymond of Salina, KS on June 5, 1960. They lived in Solomon for 31 years and together welcomed three children: a son, John Wesley Willey IV, and twin daughters, Linda and Brenda. In 1992, John and Arlene moved to Abilene, KS. Sadly, Arlene passed away on Dec 2, 2002 and John moved to Topeka, KS shortly after this, where he resided with Mary Wright. John began his lifelong career as a Civil Engineer with Wilson and Company Engineering and Architects, Salina, KS, at the age of 18. Notably, his first engineering assignment was the design and construction of I-70 at Abilene. Over the next 4 decades, he was involved in all major infrastructure improvements for the City of Abilene and was hired as Abilene’s City Engineer in 1989. He spent the next 12 years there before retiring in 2001. His most significant contribution was the construction of the first reverse osmosis municipal water treatment plant in the state of Kansas. He was thoroughly involved as a member of the free masons; serving as Secretary for 25 years at the local level and as a former officer of the Grand Lodge of Kansas. Attending the annual Solomon lodge picnic each June with his family was one event he perpetually looked forward to. He was a man of few words with a quiet, witty sense of humor. Incredibly wise and intelligent, he was the kind of person that when he spoke, everyone listened. Although he was quite stubborn and independent himself, he would drop everything to do anything for his loved ones. John and Arlene were their grandchildren’s greatest fans, cheering at every sporting or musical event they were able to attend and taking them on countless day-trip vacations including tours of Big Brutus, old steam engines, airplanes, and fishing. He was known as the grandpa who believed in donuts and Oreo cookies for breakfast and he always had some kind of candy or cookie to bring each time he visited. An avid NASCAR fan, John often enjoyed a nap with the race playing in the background. His love for his various dogs and cats throughout his life was apparent, and anyone who knew him will always picture him in his wardrobe staples—cowboy boots and sweaters year-round. John was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene. He leaves behind his son, John (Jason) Willey IV, Topeka, KS; Linda (Joe) Duntz, Manhattan, KS; Brenda (Mike)Yamamoto, Colorado Springs, CO; 5 Grandchildren: Dustin, Ashley, TJ, James, &amp; Andrew; and 6 Great Grandchildren. George Hubert Zurmely, 93 of Chapman, Kansas passed away November 25, 2022. He was born September 25, 1929 in Detroit, Kansas to Lawrence Hubert and Alice Reba (Poor) Zurmely. George grew up in the Chapman area, attended the local schools and graduated from Dickinson County High School in Chapman. After graduating from high school he worked at the Union Pacific Railroad as a laborer. He later went on to serve in the United States Navy for three years. He was united in marriage to Alberta Belle Greenwood on March 4, 1955. She preceded him in death January 18, 2020. George worked for Ft. Riley Civil Services in the housing department and transportation.

 George is survived by his five daughters, Debora Kay Fowler; Frances Marie Baldwin; Katherine Elizabeth Zsoka; Susan Dianne Marten and Mary Ann Cairns and one son, George Dwight Zurmely. Seventeen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters, Cecilia and Frances.

 Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Chapman with Fr. Peter O’Donnell as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Chapman. Parish Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at the church at 5:00 p.m., with visitation to follow. George Hubert Zurmely

Joyce LaVaun (Ruggles) Rein passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, surrounded by family, on November 24, 2022, in Abilene, Kansas at the age of 87. She was born February 16, 1935, to William and Vera (Bittner) Ruggles in Great Bend, Kansas. She was orphaned at a young age and raised by her Uncle Carl and Aunt Alice Bittner. Joyce lived much of her childhood in Great Bend and Bazine, Kansas, graduating from Bazine High School in 1954. Shortly after graduation, on December 30, 1954, she married Valis Leon Rein. Most of their married life was spent in Abilene, Kansas. For over 30 years Joyce worked as a school cook for USD 435. They had five children: daughter, Vicki (Steve) Gieber; sons, Johnny Rein, Verlyn (Pamela) Rein, Ronald (Debbie) Rein, and Curtis (Sandy) Rein, all of Abilene.

She is survived by 4 children, 12 grandchildren; Tammy Stroda, Randy Stroda, Jakob Stroda, Rick Rein, Angela Carranza, Matt Rein, Brandon Rein, and Corinne Garrison, step-grandchildren; Nathan and Jacine Gieber, Tracey and Tabetha Copenhaver, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Donna (Ruggles) Switzer, and two close cousins, Shirla Holmes, and Barbara Bedwell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Valis; son, Johnny Rein; and granddaughter, Erika Rein-Mills.

Joyce was spunky, witty, adventuresome, strong-willed, accepting, and filled with beauty and grace. She was a master of reusing, repurposing, and pinching pennies, such as, plastic bread bags for overshoes, zip-lock baggies washed and reused (many times), and no more than 3 inches of water in the bathtub on bath night. An accomplished seamstress, she made most of her children’s clothes. Joyce could climb trees, ride bikes, run races, roller skate, turn cartwheels, hula-hoop, swing a bat as well as a hammer. She loved to sing and dance and was a girl scout and cub scout leader, a carpenter, and master cook and cleaner. She had a special love for all her grandchildren and would do anything for them, including babysitting, chauffeuring, and spoiling with them with their favorite treats. Her children were blessed with a “Super Mom” …there was nothing she could not do!! But most of all, for her family, she was unconditional love…she was home.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, December 2, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at Community Bible Church, 1400 N. Cedar, Abilene, KS, with interment at the Abilene Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2022, between 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd Street, Abilene, KS. In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorials be donated to the Abilene Senior Center, where Joyce enjoyed friendship and fellowship for many years. Evelyn Y. Richardson, age 91, died November 23, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

She was born December 11, 1930, in the Council Grove Hospital in Council Grove, Kansas, the daughter of Jim and Edna (Albin) Veal. Evelyn spent her ‘growing up years’ in Morris County.

She was a junior in high school at Wilsey, Kansas when she met her future husband Jug, after he returned from World War II. She was married to William “Jug” Richardson, Jr. on September 2, 1950, in Wilsey, KS. They lived in Wilsey until moving to Manhattan in 2005. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2021, after 71 years of marriage.

After graduating Wilsey high school, she attended Emporia State Teachers college receiving her BS and Master’s Degree in Education. Evelyn retired after teaching 30 years in Morris County, in Wilsey Grade School.

Her hobbies were grandchildren, baking pies, gardening, flowers and thrift shops.

They wintered in South Padre Island, TX and Southern California after retiring.

She was a member of the Wilsey Christian Church and Eastern Star.

Survivors include her three daughters: Diane Haddock of Denver, Colorado, Denise Klimek and her husband Ed of Manhattan, and Pam Smith and her husband Gary of Wilsey, KS; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one sister Marjorie Gose of Wichita, KS.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her sister Neva Parks.

Cremation is planned with a Celebration of her life to be held at a later date.

Richardson, age 91, died November 23, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan.She was born December 11, 1930, in the Council Grove Hospital in Council Grove, Kansas, the daughter of Jim and Edna (Albin) Veal. Evelyn spent her ‘growing up years’ in Morris County.She was a junior in high school at Wilsey, Kansas when she met her future husband Jug, after he returned from World War II. She was married to William “Jug” Richardson, Jr. on September 2, 1950, in Wilsey, KS. They lived in Wilsey until moving to Manhattan in 2005. William Hale Ogden of Zeandale, Kansas, passed away on November 21, 2022 at the Wellsprings of Westmoreland Assisted Living Care Center in Westmoreland, Kansas at the age of 102 years.

Mr. Ogden was born on October 18, 1920 to George Richard and Lottie Pearl Ogden on the family farm near DeKalb, Missouri.

Mr. Ogden started his adult life working in various grocery stores in Saint Joseph, Missouri. Theses endeavors ended with his military service in World War II, as he served in the United States Navy until the end of the War. After his military service, he again returned to the grocery industry, managing stores in Marceline and Chillicothe, Missouri, before owning and operating the Hy-Klas grocery store in Westmoreland, Kansas. After retirement he worked for the Suds Y’r Duds Laundry in Manhattan, until he retired at the age of 99.

Mr. Ogden is survived by his sons, Richard Ogden and his wife Mary Ellen, of Liberty, Missouri, William Earl Ogden, of Zeandale, Kansas, his daughter Linda Gottschalk and her husband Bob, of Benicia, California; grandchildren: Richard Ogden Jr., Mary Lea Hawthorne, William J. Ogden, Joshua Ogden, Michelle Blevins, Tyler Gottschalk, Kristin King, Nancy Ragan, Kathy Hallam, Julie Ogden, and several great and great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Mae Ogden, his parents, his brother Richard Russell, his infant sister Dorothy, and step-son Edward Gene Ogden.

Mr. Ogden was a faithful member of the Zeandale Community Church. He enjoyed dancing in the Lone Wranglers Dance Club for many years, Blue Grass music, traveling, and socializing with people.

His family will deeply miss his kindness and presence in their lives.

Denise Torrey, 65, of St. George, Kaas passed away Friday, November 25, 2022 at the Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas.

Denise was born to Virlin Lee and Mary Pearl Fleming on August 5th, 1957, in Wamego, Kansas. Denise grew up on a farm and attended St. George High School where she met her beloved husband, Dudley Torrey. The pair shared their first date the night of her high school graduation in 1975. They were united in marriage on September 2, 1978, and had three children. The couple enjoyed attending their grandchildren's sporting events, spending time with family and friends, fishing, camping, boating, and going on drives together. Her children made her a grandma (mamaw, gram) to nine grandchildren. Motherhood was Denise’s greatest joy and being a grandma her greatest blessing. Denise delighted in spending time with her grandchildren. Together they went to the movies, on summer camping trips, 4-wheeling adventures, trips to Oceans and Worlds of Fun, birthday shopping, they put together puzzles, played card games, and more.

Denise was a pillar of strength and resilience, she cared for all of her children and husband through life threatening illnesses and her optimism and stability never wavered. Even when facing cancer, Denise continued to face each hurdle with grace, strength, and hope.

Denise was an eternal optimist and exuded positivity at all times. She sought adventure and found fun and laughter in any situation. Denise bungee jumped in her 30s, dirt-biked through her 40s, zip-lined in her 50s, and cliff jumped in her 60s. She loved camping, fishing, boating, celebrating St. Patty’s Day, and sledding on the perfect snow followed by a fresh cup of hot cocoa. Denise cared for her strawberry garden and flowers, fed birds, squirrels, outdoor fish, and toads. She always said, “the mess will be there tomorrow, there’s fun to be had today”.

Denise was a devoted employee of Walmart for close to 35 years before she retired in 2020. Denise met many coworkers who became good friends. Denise also enjoyed a circle of friends who enjoyed family camping trips throughout the years, lunches, card parties, and Christmas home tours. Denise was a member of the St. Joseph’s church for 20 years. She had a giving heart and sponsored many children through UNBOUND and donated to K-LOVE.

Denise is survived by her husband, Dudley Torrey, and three children Dudley Caleb Torrey (Natalie), Jess Torrey (Jennifer), and Megan Todd (Jared). Her nine grandchildren: Avery Torrey (Nicole), Clarissa Torrey, Vivian Torrey, Ruby Torrey, Tristyn Torrey, Aidan Torrey, Maddox Ibarra, Marcello Ibarra, and Isabel Todd. Her sister Vicki Westgate (Scott), brother Kevin Fleming, sister Colleen Lubbers (Jason). Sister-in-laws Carol Eichman (Ed), Ruth Cassity, and brother-in-law Steve Torrey (Terry) and Monty Peterson. Joseph “Francis” Minihan, 89, of Blaine, Kansas, died Thursday, November 24, 2022, at the Onaga Community Hospital.&nbsp; He was a life-long resident of the area.

Francis was born February 21, 1933, in Wamego, Kansas, the son of John Francis and Lillian (Smith) Minihan.&nbsp; He attended local grade school and graduated from Blaine High School in 1951.

Francis was a farmer and stockman, operating the family farm just east of Blaine.&nbsp; He also worked in Topeka for Henry Manufacturing Company and Goodyear Tire Company.&nbsp; He then worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation as an equipment operator.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.&nbsp; His hobby was also his work.&nbsp; He loved to farm.

Francis married Martha J. Priddy, on August 24, 1963, in Topeka, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives at their home.

He is also survived by his daughter; Karen Ebert (Kyle), St. Mary and his sons; Joseph Michael Minihan, Blaine, Kevin Patrick Minihan (Cathy), Blaine, Mark Allen Minihan (Carol), Wheaton, and Gerald Francis Minihan (Christi), Rossville; his 13 Grandchildren, T. J. Robert was born March 12, 1958, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert and Katherine (Nettinger) Robison. He served in both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army. After serving four years in the Marine Corps, he left as a Corporal and enlisted in the Army in 1981. This is where, after 22 years, he would retire as a Master Sergeant in 2002. After his service, he was able to visit all 50 states and was working on the islands as he loved to cruise. Before being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2005, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on different types of vehicles. Some of his favorite times included Friday Family dinner, yearly family vacations, pumpkin carving, and spending time with his grandkids. He didn't allow Parkinson's to hold him down. He swam with the sting rays, went parasailing, cave tubing, salmon fishing in Alaska and was able to see Mt. Denali completely clear for three days in a row. On his bucket list, he wanted to see REBA in concert and two days before his passing, he was able to check that box. He loved it. He is survived by his life partner, Cindi Porter, and his close circle of family; Rachel Jones, Cory Robison (grandson), Tim and Maria Porter, Daymien and Faybien Michael (grandsons). Thank you for always being there and loving him unconditionally. Never did he need anything that his "team" wouldn't be able to provide for him. John Franklin Kaiser, age 79, of Manhattan, died Saturday November 19, 2022 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

John was born on May 13, 1943 in Junction City, the son of Lester C. and Jean Marie (Smith) Kaiser. He grew up in the Junction City area and graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1961. After graduation John joined the U.S. Navy and went to Naval Photographical School in Pensacola, Florida.

He worked at Norfolk, Virginia, then was deployed to the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier, USS Observation Island at Cape Canaveral, Florida and was later transferred to Washington D.C. to the Naval Photographic Center. After his Honorable discharge from the Navy, John went to Fort Riley and worked for the Department of Defense as a photographer in the photo lab and then became the Film Service Officer in the TASC Office. After 30 years of service, he retired in 1993.

In retirement John worked for Briggs Auto, Jerrys Carpet World and the Westview Community Church. He enjoyed being part of the Gideons, the Yard Art Classic Car Club in Manhattan and a member of the Westview Community Church. He was able to help the church and many people while working at the church, which was important to him and brought him much joy.

On February 13, 1965 in Mims, Florida, John was united in marriage to Carlene Young. She survives at their home in Manhattan.

In addition to Carlene, John is survived by his sons: Raymond Kaiser (Tracie) of Olathe, Kansas and Scott Kaiser (Heather) of Liberty, Missouri; also, his grandsons: Brendan Kaiser and Kelley Kaiser; his sister Joan Johnston, of Augusta, Kansas; and his nephew Mark Johnston of Chapman, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Michael Johnston.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 5:30 until 7:00p.m. Monday November 28, 2022 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

John Franklin Kaiser, age 79, of Manhattan, died Saturday November 19, 2022 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.John was born on May 13, 1943 in Junction City, the son of Lester C. and Jean Marie (Smith) Kaiser. He grew up in the Junction City area and graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1961. After graduation John joined the U.S. Navy and went to Naval Photographical School in Pensacola, Florida.He worked at Norfolk, Virginia, then was deployed to the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier, USS Observation Island at Cape Canaveral, Florida and was later transferred to Washington D.C. to the Naval Photographic Center. After his Honorable discharge from the Navy, John went to Fort Riley and worked for the Department of Defense as a photographer in the photo lab and then became the Film Service Officer in the TASC Office. Kenneth John Umscheid, age 62, a lifetime Manhattan resident, died November 17, 2022, at his residence.

He was born January 23, 1960, in Manhattan, the son of Cletus and Donna (Foster) Umscheid.

Georgia was born on October 16, 1935 in Merkel Texas to George and Nancy Bishop.

Linda Lorraine Felber, 72, of Manhattan, died Friday, Nov. 18, at her home.

Born Feb. 11, 1950, to John and Vera Schirmer in Danbury, Ct., Linda moved to Manhattan in 1973 following her marriage on Sept. 29, 1973, to Bill Felber. She was a Manhattan resident for the remaining 49 years of her life.

Linda was a 1981 graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in humanities who enjoyed working as a babysitter for numerous local families.

Linda and Bill had one son, Frank Timothy, who was born on May 9, 1998.

For most of her adult life, Linda fought a brave personal battle with paranoid schizophrenia, a pernicious, debilitating disease of the brain that made it difficult for her to function in a group work setting. Despite that, those who knew Linda unanimously remember her desire to be helpful and friendly in all circumstances.

She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church who enjoyed taking part in various church functions. She was also a proud member of the Kappa Omicron Nu national honor society.

Among her proudest moments were celebrating her son’s accomplishments, including achieving the Eagle Scout rank, being elected to the National Honor Society, earning his undergraduate degree in political science from Kansas State University, and earning his master’s degree from the University of Arizona in international security studies.

She and Bill celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary this past September.

Survivors include her husband and her son, both of the home. Other survivors include two sisters, Jacqueline Oleson of Greenwich, Ct., and Debra Oleson of White Plains, N.Y., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at St. Thomas More Church with Rev. Frank Coady as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery.

Carolea Archer, 92, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Saturday, 
November 19, 2022. She was born April 5, 1930, in Arkansas City, Kansas,&nbsp; to William and Cleota (Kirby) Moore and was the third of five children.

Carolea and Jerry Jones were married May 15, 1951, and owned several 
successful businesses together, including Jerry’s Auto Supply in 
Stanberry, Western Auto and The Bargain Barns in Maryville/ Red Oak/ 
Fall City/ Nebraska City.

Carolea was a Registered Nurse and nurse educator, earning her RN 
from Missouri Methodist Hospital, and later in life her bachelors and 
Masters Degrees from Northwest Missouri State University. &nbsp;She utilized 
her Masters in Psychological Counseling as a disaster mental health 
volunteer and was recognized as a leading Red Cross volunteer in 
Missouri in 1991. After Jerry’s death in 1999, she retired, and was 
married to David Archer from 2002 until 2007.

Preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings Daryl Barrett,
 Ardath Menas, and Shane Moore. Carolea is survived by her children: Ken
 Jones (Ginny), Ozark, Mic Jones (Vicki), Firestone, Colorado, Julie 
Castillo (Ron Hetherington), Kansas City, a sister, Kathy Harris of 
Junction City, KS, as well as her many grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Tim enlisted in the military at the age of 20 and faithfully served his country for 24 years, 1 month and 7 days. After retiring, Tim continued his civil service career with 1st Infantry Division Headquarters at Fort Riley for 18 years. Tim was an avid fisherman Spending many hours on his boat and trolling the lake for the next big catch. He took solace in sitting in the garage and listening to his radio when he wasn’t fixated on perfecting his yard. John A. Wagnaar III, 34, of Manhattan, Kansas passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Cremation will take place. John was born June 13, 1988 in Aurora, Colorado the son of John A. and Kim L. (Hudson) Wagnaar II. John graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 2006. During high school, he participated in soccer for four years. After high school, he worked as a civilian contractor on Fort Riley and Kuwait and Afghanistan. After his return to the states, he obtain certification with HVAC. He went to work for Thermal Comfort Air in Manhattan, Kansas. He enjoyed fishing, taking road trips and spending time with friends and family. He is survived by his parents John and Kim Wagnaar of Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers, Kyle Wagnaar of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Ian Wagnaar of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Amanda Wagnaar of Lakewood, Colorado; one nephew, Michael Saul; one niece, MaKayla Saul; paternal grandfather, John A. Lynette Sue Hoffman, age 71 of Manhattan, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022 at her residence.

She was born on October 11, 1951 in Clay Center, the daughter of Walter William and Esther Faye (Dreier) Bulk.

On April 2, 1972 she married Vaughn Dentan Hoffman.&nbsp; They later separated.

Lynette worked in the Research and Extension Business Office at Kansas State University.&nbsp; Her world revolved around her daughter and grandkids.&nbsp; She enjoyed square dancing, puzzle books, lighthouses and learning more about her genealogy.

She is survived by her daughter, Ivy Kennedy and husband Brock of Manhattan and two grandchildren, Kacie Lyn and Ian Douglas. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, W. Keith Bulk. &nbsp;

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2022 at Fairview Presbyterian Church with Pastor Gerry Sharp officiating.&nbsp; A luncheon will immediately follow the service.

Alice Marie Sutton, 86, of Wamego, Kansas, died Friday, October 21, 2022, at Wellsprings of Westmoreland. She was a long-time resident of the community.

Alice was born on April 13, 1936, in Smith Center, Kansas, the daughter of Harry Cecil and Sadie (Carter) Rhoades. She attended grade school and graduated from Smith Center High School.

Alice worked for twenty-three years in housekeeping at Wamego City Hospital. She enjoyed doing various crafts and reading. Alice was a quiet person and enjoyed being a homebody.

Alice is survived by her children; David Sutton (Vicki), Milford, Indiana, Kathy Feldhausen (Dale), Manhattan, and Dawna Sutton, Wamego; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Joann Hunnacutt (Jack), Smith Center, and Florence Kistler (Donald)), Albany, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Carl Rhoades and Donald Rhoades.

Betty Lorraine Carver was born May 22, 1923, in Minneapolis, KS.&nbsp; She was the youngest daughter of Ethel Mae (Bishop) Carver and Levi Bert Carver.&nbsp; Betty passed away November 13, 2022 in her home at the age of 99 years, 6 months.

Betty Carver of Clyde, KS was married to Warren Coupal of Miltonvale on May 16, 1945, at the Clay Center United Methodist Church.

She graduated from Clyde High School in 1943, received her Normal Training, and then received her teaching certificate.&nbsp; She taught the next 2 years before getting married.

To this union was born 3 children, Shirley Coupal, Roeland Park, KS; Virginia Coupal-Smith, Roeland Park, KS; and Douglas and wife Michelle (Carlson) Coupal, Clay Center, KS. &nbsp;She was a great mom and participated in all of her children’s activities. They built their home on the family farm, a Century farm in Western Clay County. Betty was a homemaker and loved to be involved with the farming operation.

She was a member of the Clyde United Methodist Church and their UMW organization, Homemakers Extension Unit, Clay County 4-H, and served on the Browndale School Board.&nbsp; Betty was also a member of the Nathan Edson Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Clay Center, KS. She served as Chapter Regent and State Chairman of Conservation for the Kansas Society, as well as a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists. She was also eligible to belong to the Mayflower Society.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Warren, parents Ethel &amp; Levi Carver, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her three children as well as four grandchildren: Jessica (Smith) and husband Jeff Young,&nbsp; Lenexa, KS;&nbsp; Brenton Smith, Roeland Park, KS;&nbsp; Kyler Coupal and wife Shelby (Hynek) of Miltonvale, KS; and Kinsey (Coupal) and husband Trevor Cox, Clay Center, KS. Great Grandchildren include, Isabella Young, Graham Young, Coleson Cox and Emma Cox.

Her life was filled with many interesting experiences. She was born prematurely at 3 lbs, survived several accidents, and worked hard as a farmer’s wife. They raised turkeys for a few years, but the main focus at the farm was cattle. She canned her own fruits and vegetables, and made the best apple pie. Betty enjoyed the friends and family that would drop in to see her.&nbsp; She loved having her grandchildren around, who got away with more than her own kids did. She taught them to play Checkers and Rummy, along with having the best Pepsi parties, cookies, and ice cream. Betty may have been best known for her jokes and no one was ever a stranger to her as she had the gift to start up a conversation with anyone.

She will always be loved and missed by many!

Martha Webster, 86 died November 9, 2022, in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp; She was born on October 5, 1936, in Independence, MO the daughter of Durl and Gertrude (Sirotsky) O'Neil.&nbsp; Martha was raised in Independence, MO. She married Gene Webster on August 3, 1957, and they made their home in Overland Park, KS.&nbsp; Martha graduated from Central Missouri State College and later earned her master’s degree from the University of Kansas.&nbsp; She worked as a speech therapist for the Olathe school district until her retirement.&nbsp; In 2014, Gene and Martha moved to Clay Center, where they attended the Clay Center Covenant Church.&nbsp; Martha enjoyed the Kansas City Ballet, sewing, quilting, art appreciation, reading books to children and socializing with family and friends.&nbsp; Gene preceded her in death on May 11, 2015.&nbsp; Martha was a member of Prairie Baptist Church in Prairie Village, the University Women’s Organization, and the Quilting Guild.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Don O'Neil, Wade O'Neil and their spouses
