Sherry L. Leister, 60 of Abilene passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022. She was born November 9, 1962 in Emporia, Kansas. She married Scott Leister June 29, 2002 in Abilene. Sherry worked at IBP Meat Plant in Emporia for 10 years and also worked for the Russell Stover’s as a machine operator.

 Sherry is survived by her mother, Charmein Bowers and father Henry Pine. Her husband, Scott Leister of Abilene. Daughters: Jolina Boland; Tara Waymire and Savannah Leister all of Abilene and step-daughter, Charlotte Leister and step-son Justin Leister all of Abilene. Siblings, Damon Pine, Deanna Stallbaumer, Joey Pilotti (Gena) and half brother, Eric Knight (Kammie), seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family has chosen cremation. A Memorial

Alan “Skip” Beaty Jones passed away on November 13, 2022. He was 82 years old. He was named after his mother, Ala Beaty, but as a baby his father began calling him Skipper and the name Skip remained through the years. The family often says, “If someone called the house and asked for Alan, we can assume they do not know him and are trying to sell something.”

Skip was born on September 25, 1940, in Mount Vernon, IL. He graduated from Sinton High School in Sinton, TX in 1958, received his BS (studying physics) and MS (studying cellular toxicology) from University of Texas, Austin in 1963 and 1968 and his PhD (studying radiation microbiology and radiation sensitizing agents) from the University of Manchester in 1971. He married his wife of 51 years, Joan Groce Jones, on June 26, 1971, and they raised two daughters, Kimberly and Camilla.

Skip served in the US Army, entering the Reserves in 1963 and continued to work on his masters during this time. In February of 1969, he was stationed at the 97th General Field Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany where he worked in the pharmacy. It was here that he met Joan. He was discharged in July 1970 and returned to Manchester to complete his PhD.

Skip’s education led to a variety of jobs. Coming first to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in October of 1971. Skip planned to be there as a Post-Doc Fellow for just a few years; however, by January of 1972, Skip accepted a faculty position in the School of Pharmacy at Ole Miss. He remained in academia at Ole Miss serving as faculty, graduate program director, and department head during his time. His work at Ole Miss opened a variety of research opportunities including Navy Forensic Drug Testing, National Institute of Drugs and Abuse Drug Testing, Forensic Drug Testing Laboratory inspections, Department of Transportation Forensic Drug Testing Program, Medical Review Officer Program, Substance Abuse Management, and many others. The drug testing industry pulled Skip into work after retirement from Ole Miss in 1999. He transitioned from academics to working full-time with the Substance Abuse Management Inc and Managed Athletic Testing Services in Milwaukee, WI and Boca Raton, FL. He retired (again) in 2006 when he and Joan moved to The Villages, FL.

From a young age, Skip enjoyed fishing, cars, and the outdoors. He was an Eagle Scout and remained active in Boy Scouts helping at Philmont Scout Ranch, even though he did not have any boys of his own. He also remained devoted to his collegiate fraternity, Sigma Chi, serving as the chapter advisor for the University of Mississippi chapter for many years. During retirement, his enjoyment of bird watching, container gardening, putting together puzzles, and reading only expanded. He kept detailed notes of the books he read, with many of his favorites being by John Grisham, John Hart, Tony Hillerman, Stuart Wood, James Patterson, and Ken Follett.

He was a man of faith and appreciated his interaction with his church and being a part of the Knights of Columbus Council #8488 and the Fourth Degree Msgr Arthur J. Luckey Assembly.

Skip will not only be remembered for his impeccable intellect and his ability to explain any form of scientific or mathematical equation, birds, or vehicles, but he will be remembered as a patient, devoted, and loving husband and father.

Skip is preceded in death by his father (William Paul Jones), mother (Ala Beaty Jones), brother (William), and two children and two grandchildren who all died before birth. He is survived by wife Joan, daughters Kimberly Ivester (Kelly) and Camilla Roberts (Kevin) both of Manhattan, and four grandchildren (Jackson and Will Ivester and Morgan and Taylor Roberts).

The Rosary will be said at 6:30 pm followed by a visitation from 7:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, November 20, at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, Manhattan, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Monday, November 21, at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Fort Riley.

Richard Phillips, age 99, of Manhattan, Kansas, died November 8, 2022 in Westmoreland, Kansas.

Richard Phillips was born September 13, 1923 in the farm home of his parents near new Sharon, Iowa to Mildred (Hawk) and Claude Phillips, their first born. His mother died from cardiac arrest when Richard was 3 years old. His natural siblings were a still born baby sister and brother Charles, killed in a hunting accident when 17 years 9 months of age. The family was joined by their stepmother, Lorena (Ravlin) Kannewurf and her daughter Marylee in 1927.

The merged family remained active in agriculture, moving to a larger rental farm in Tama County, Iowa in 1929 where Richard attended Star rural School ½ mile away. Then in 1935 the family moved back to Mahaska County to Dr. Wilcox’s large livestock farm west of Beacon. It was 2 ½ miles from rural school, but had a tenant house for hired man’s family and other advantages for farming. After finishing his 8th grade exams, Richard entered Oskaloosa High School by bicycling to Beacon and catching a public bus with a school friend. There he majored in vocational Agriculture and was active in FFA as well as 4-H activities.

The family’s next move was to a purchased 100-acre farm near Barnes city in northern Mahaska County in 1939. Dick’s dad had become active in improved chicken and egg production, and this farm was well suited for that as well as for purebred livestock operations. The kids rode the school bus three miles to Barnes City High School, thriving o the rural small-town atmosphere there. Richard expanded his 4-H Club activities, exhibiting at Mahaska County and Iowa State Fairs. Upon high school graduation he remained home for a year, assisting with farming activities and earning money from his 4-H projects for Iowa State College.

Richard’s freshman year in Ag. Education at Iowa State went well, sharing a faculty member’s basement apartment with an Engineering senior. Both doing garden and house work in lieu of rental payment. Waiting tables at girls’ dorms for meals ad setting up bleachers, etc. at the Athletic Department for extra cash stretched his budget. With the War on, ROTC activity was featured and recruiting by all branches of U.S. Military service was supported by the College. After his first quarter in school, Richard joined the Farmhouse Fraternity, but continued to live in his apartment. Later he was accepted in the U.S. Navy V-12 program of college prep for officer candidacy and reported for active duty at Purdue University July 1, 1943.

The Purdue program was tailored to College of Agriculture students, mostly from land grant colleges across the country. In Navy uniforms of Apprentice Seaman doing a bit of marching and taking courses in Navy Organization and Naval Regulation, the new sailors continue their Ag Curriculum courses with top faculty for full credit at Navy expense. They also were given options to enroll in other programs, and after on academic year, Richard opted to the Navy’s V-5 aviation training program. This brought back to Iowa, first to Ottumwa primary training base as Tarmac Seaman 2nd Class, second to Cornell College at Mt. Vernon as Aviation Cadet for Flight Preparatory Training and then to Iowa City for Pre Flight training.

It was at the Ottumwa base that Richard met his wife to be. Valeta D. Conner, a student nurse of Ottumwa’s St. Joseph Hospital. They met at a USO sponsored dance in Hanger No. 1 on the base. Neither had much time off nor spare funds, but they managed enough dates to become better acquainted and closer friends. After Richard became Naval Aviation Cadet and Valeta Army Cadet Nurse, they continued to see one another. Richard could hitch hike in uniform from his Iowa bases to Ottumwa and be back before curfew.

The visits were curtailed when Richard was transferred to Primary Pilot Training at Norman, at the Aerial Navigator Training at Clinton, Oklahoma. But over the holiday mailing season, Richard had leave and hitchhiked to Chicago to work at a parcel sorting facility earning money for wedding and engagement rings, sleeping at the YMCA and eating YMCA bag lunches. It worked, and he met Valeta in Dubuque where she had a student nurse assignment to present the newly acquired engagement ring-happy times indeed.

After he received his Navigator wings and Ensign commission, Richard was eligible to marry but as Army Cadet Nurse, Valeta was not. So, she resigned from the Army and become a civilian licensed registered nurse. They were married August 28, 1945 before he was shipped to his VR11 duty post in Honolulu, Hawaii. Learning that Richard would have periodic flights back to Oakland, Valeta came out for private duty nursing, choosing 24-hour care of mothers with a new baby. While in transit to Oakland, Richard often could also stay in the home of Valeta’s client. Not a bad arrangement for the young couple.

Even better would be residency in Honolulu, but housing there at the time was so scarce that I didn’t seem possible. A lottery came to the rescue. The Navy Nurses quarters were vacated after Japan’s surrender, freeing 22 duplex housing units. Lots of Navy servicemen of various rands and rates and applied, so it was decided to run a lottery of the whole list; Richards’s name was drawn 13th-his birthday number. Valeta was free to come by the ship to join her husband. Next door neighbors there were the Squadron Navigation Officer, a full Commander, and a Chief Petty officer, both with useful connections for Richard and Valeta.

Lots of great experiences in Honolulu. Valeta’s childhood friends, Noel and Verla Kirby were there, as well as Richards’s aunt and family. Richard was able to get a small used care for touring Oahu and for attending a few classes at the University of Hawaii. For the return to mainland and home, Richard couldn’t get air passage for Valeta, so they returned by ship, he as ship officer, and she in the large dormitory area on the same ship, in San Francisco Richard mustered out from active duty in record time and they were on the Amtrack Train back to Iowa.

Richard’s service time earned ample credits for college training under the GI bill, but family student housing at universities was very tight, he was employed as County Extension Club Agent in his home county for a year, helping on down payment for an apartment house in Ames in 1947 to continue college at Iowa State. The couple’s first child, Judy was born in Oskaloosa; the other four and a stillborn daughter were born in Ames. In college Richard was able to supplement his subsistence under the GI bill by teaching Vocational Agriculture to veterans at Mingo High School, and then, after receiving his B.S. Degree, as Graduate Assistant in Ag. Economics at Iowa State. After his M.S., he made Assistant Professor in 1950 and earned his PhD in 1952. The first edition of his college textbook appeared in 1957. His first international assignment was to Nigeria in 1960. His promotion to full professor came in 1961.

The next year, 1962 the family moved to Manhattan, Kansas where Richard was employed by Agri-Research, a private consulting company. Following eight years at Agri and one with Logistics Research in Kansas City, Richard joined the Graduate Faculty at Kansas State and moved the family back to Manhattan. He retired as Professor Emeritus in 1995 after 25 years of active service at Kansas State. Throughout his career at KSU he worked in over 50 countries.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his infant daughter Deborah Sue, and his brother and step sister; also, his grandparents, Amos W. and Dora (Hickox) Phillis and Charles Eli and Anna Cornelia (Klump) Hawk.

He is survived by his wife Valeta of 80 years, four daughters: Judith Ann Jungen of Wauwatosa, WI, Patricia Jean Cink of Bandon, OR, Rebecca K. Phillips, DC, of Albuquerque, NM, and Kathryn Sue Phillips-Israel, PhD, of Portland OR, one son, Ralph L. Phillips of Dewey, AZ, twelve grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mr. Phillips will be held on Saturday November 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan, Kansas. The family will greet friends at 10:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

A Graveside Service for Mr. Phillips with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday November 28, 2022 at the Union Mills Cemetery in Union Mills, Iowa. The Richard and Valeta D. (Conner) gravestone is in place in the family block at the endowed Union Mills Cemetery, Union Mills, Iowa. This cemetery is the final resting place for Richard’s parents and brother, as well as many of his ancestors.

The family suggests memorial contributions in memory of Richard be made to the Riley County Genealogy Society, the Riley County Historical Society, or the T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter. On November 8th, 2022, Pam Hedman, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend to so many passed away after a short illness with family and close friends by her side peacefully. She was 60 years old. Born to Frank &amp; Doris (Jensen) Reves. Pam married Jim Hedman and they were together 37 years.

Pam was a hard worker, rarely missing time from work at Kansas State University Housing and Dining services. She had several positions with the university after being there 33 years. Most recently she was Maintenance Supervisor Sr. for the painting crew.

Pam and Jim were very social and Jim being an original member of the local band Crosswinds for 40 years gave them the opportunity to meet and become friends with so many people. Going to “gigs” was always something to look forward to as they would be able to see friends and make memories with so many they knew. She loved music and going to concerts was always a favorite.

Their daughter Alyssa had two children, Allison, and Anthony. They were the light of Pam’s eye. They called her Gigi, and she loved taking them places and spending time at home with them. Their energy and excitement were such a joy for her.

Pam is survived by her husband Jim of the home, daughter Alyssa, grandchildren Allison and Anthony, brother Russell, sisters Cindy and Lisa, sister-in-law Marylin (Don) Noyes, brother in laws Richard (Mandy) Hedman, and Larry Hedman, as well as many close and special friends.

Her father Franklin Reves, mother Doris Reves, sister Camela Piper preceded her in death.

Arlene was a woman of many accomplishments. She joined Bethel A.M.E. Church in 1952, was a Founding Member of the 20th Century Literary &amp; Arts Club est.1944. A Founding Member of Sunflower Chapter 58, Daughter of ISIS Imperial Court 192, and The Golden Circle.

She was most known for being a friend and second Mom to many who she came in contact with.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Walter Lee Cole, and daughter Sharon Blanton.

Her legacy is to be remembered by Craig and Wonder, Jazz, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her many spiritually adopted children and close friends.

You musn’t tie yourself to me with tears.

Linda L. Beymer, 80, of Anthony, Kansas passed away, Sunday, November 13th, 2022.

Linda Lou Hunter was born in Anthony, Kansas on April 17, 1942,she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Wright and Lenora Fern (Cottrlll) Hunter. She was a homemaker, but also worked at Eaton Manufacturing in Hutchinson and other businesses in the Anthony and Hutchinson areas. Linda attended and graduated from Anthony High School in 1960. She was united in marriage to Dennis Van Horn on June 5, 1960 and were later divorced. In the year 2002 she married Steven L. Beymer and he passed in June of 2021.

Linda is survived by her son, Richard and his wife, Kristi Van Horn of Manhattan; her grandson, Matthew (Kaylee) Van Horn of Manhattan and nephew, John Connelly of Springfield, Missouri.

Linda will be laid to rest next to her parents in the Forest Park Cemetery, Anthony, Kansas at a later date.

was born June 8, 1944, on the Naval Base in Oakland, CA, to John William
 and Hazel (Richardson) Whomans.

Mary Ann graduated from Kingman High School in 1962, and Adela Hale 
School of Business in 1963. She worked at Farmarco as a bookkeeper and a
 variety of other jobs before retiring.&nbsp; Mary Ann enjoyed gardening, 
especially working in her flower beds.&nbsp; She was also quite creative 
making numerous items by hand. Mary Ann would spend countless hours 
crocheting, quilting, knitting, wheat weaving, and working on stained 
glass.&nbsp; She was a member of the Norwich Christian Church, where she 
enjoyed the ladies’ groups as well as all the fellowship and support the
 church provided to her. &nbsp;

Mary Ann is survived by:&nbsp; her sons, Troy Ruebke (Joni) of Manhattan 
and Brent Ruebke (Peggy) of Nickerson; brother, Robert Whomans (Mary 
Ann) of Newton; sisters, Marjorie Keezer of Newton and Joyce Lancaster 
(Nelson) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Faith Ruebke of Hesston, Samuel 
Ruebke of Medora, Chris Schrag of Wichita, Sarah Bell (Tanner) of 
Hutchinson, Jake Wolfe of Nickerson, Grant Steffes of Manhattan, and

Merlin D. Moorman, 91 of Solomon passed away November 4, 2022 at the Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center in Salina. He was born April 9, 1931 in Abilene, the son of William and Anna (Shirack) Moorman. He attended the local school district in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School in 1949. On January 31, 1953 he was united in marriage to Johna Kelly in Abilene. She preceded him in death June 27, 2020.

 Merlin was a farmer and also a millwright worker. Merlin was a 4-H leader for 35 years and also the swine superintendent of the Central Kansas Free Fair for 35 years. He was on the school board, COOP board and member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping.

 Merlin is survived by his daughter, Marsha Carney and husband Scott of Solomon. Two Sons: Mitch Moorman and wife Karen of Emporia, Kansas and Mike Moorman and wife Linda of Sunrise Beach, Missouri. Two grandchildren: Taylor Moorman and Michele Deewall and four great-grandchildren Kinley, Elyse and twins Collin and Ethan Deewall. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Johna and sister, Barbara A. Weiland.

They were married for 54 years before he passed away in 2012. Lola worked as a home child care provider, nurse’s aide and was also a homemaker. She was well known for her huge gardens and homemade candies. She enjoyed all the produce from her garden and loved to share it with her family, friends and neighbors. She would spend countless hours making everything you could think of from fudge, divinity, turtles, caramel popcorn, cherry mash, etc. and the family always enjoyed getting all of these goodies in their Christmas packages. And her amazing angel food cake. Lola is survived by her son, Dale Dugan and wife Connie of Chapman, Kansas. Lola E. Dugan

Teresa Jean Glavin, “Sissy, Sis, Teresa Baby”, was born July 6, 1962. She passed away November 7, 2022 at the age of 60.

 She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Glavin, grandparents, Andy and Cleta Miller; Ather and Lucy Green; and Vera Glover and Harvey Glavin. She is survived by her mother, Athagean “Cookie” Glavin. Sister, Cleta (Tony) Robinson. Brother; Chris (Jodi) Glavin and many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and loving caregivers.

 Throughout Teresa’s 60 years she was a comfort to many. She always listened to everyone, counseled many and was also the keeper of everyone’s secrets, gossip and rumors. You could count on her to listen and be non-judgmental. She was everyone’s friend. Sissy loved spending time with family and friends and her special helpers. She enjoyed all the sounds of all the seasons, the louder the better. If there was a party of any kind, birthdays, family gatherings she was ready to go. Teresa also enjoyed going for rides, shopping for hours at Sams or Walmart, spending time camping at Wakefield, her helpers pampering her with massages, lotioning her up, painting her finger and toe nails, being held on the couch to read the paper and watch TV. Teresa Jean Glavin, “Sissy, Sis, Teresa Baby”, was born July 6, 1962. She passed away November 7, 2022 at the age of 60. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Glavin, grandparents, Andy and Cleta Miller; Ather and Lucy Green; and Vera Glover and Harvey Glavin. She is survived by her mother, Athagean “Cookie” Glavin. Sister, Cleta (Tony) Robinson. Brother; Chris (Jodi) Glavin and many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and loving caregivers. Throughout Teresa’s 60 years she was a comfort to many. She always listened to everyone, counseled many and was also the keeper of everyone’s secrets, gossip and rumors. You could count on her to listen and be non-judgmental. She was everyone’s friend. Sissy loved spending time with family and friends and her special helpers. She enjoyed all the sounds of all the seasons, the louder the better. If there was a party of any kind, birthdays, family gatherings she was ready to go. Teresa also enjoyed going for rides, shopping for hours at Sams or Walmart, spending time camping at Wakefield, her helpers pampering her with massages, lotioning her up, painting her finger and toe nails, being held on the couch to read the paper and watch TV. Florence E. Ryff passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 12 at 10:30 a.m at LifeHouse Church, 420 NW 2nd Street in Abilene, Kansas. Danner Funeral Home is handling the arrangements with Marty Colborn as officiate. Florence E. Ryff was born on April 16th, 1940 to William and Lula (Allen) Murrison weighing just over 4 lbs. Her first “bassinet” was a shoebox. She was the youngest of six children, Albert, Alice, Doris, Wlliam (Billy) and Margaret. She was of Scottish descent as her father William was born in Scotland and immigrated to the United States at the age of 12 by way of Ellis Island. One of the proudest days of his life was the day he became a United States citizen. Florence attended Chapman schools and graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in 1958. Her favorite classes included math and algebra. Florence married Dick Ryff on September 25th, 1964. She was a homemaker and selflessly dedicated herself to her husband and children. While Dick was at work, she took care of the household and always paid bills in cash (in person). Although she took driving lessons in high school, she never got a driver’s license and never drove a car. If Dick was not available to drive her downtown to pay bills, she would either walk or ride one of her children’s bicycles even if the only one available had a banana seat and sissy bar. After her kids had grown, she took a position as dishwasher at Mr. K’s Buckboard and later Pizza Hut to earn a little “bingo money” and she loved bingo (3 times a week!). Florence loved her family and was always interested in what was going on in their lives. Many conversations included a flurry of questions about what they were doing, where they were going and what was for dinner. We will sorely miss those interrogations. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lula; siblings Albert, Alice, Doris, Billy and Margaret, her favorite niece Shirley (who was more like a sister), husband Dick and daughter Jackie. Delia Louise Goodman (Lolley), 89, of Wheaton, KS died at the Eastridge Care Home in Onaga, Kansas November 9, 2022.

Delia was born in Blaine, KS, on September 17, 1933, the daughter of Sylvester and Katherine (Fox) Lolley.

She attended Wheaton High School. After high school, she worked for Meinhardt Farm Equipment in Wamego. She married Lyle Goodman on, August 13, 1953, he preceded her in death on February 21, 2018.

Delia enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She loved red tomatoes and gardening. &nbsp;

She is survived by her daughter, Connie (Jerome) Thomas, Son; Richard Goodman; Joshua Goodman, Jessica (Trey) Morgan, Tatum Thomas, Jannica (Colin) Sell, great-grandchildren Treyden Morgan, Hunter Morgan, and Harper Sell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Kay Abbitz, Margaret Walsh, Donald Lolley, and son Jerry Lolley.

Donna E. (Stephenson) McCallum, 87, passed away November 8, 2022 in Wamego, KS. She was born August 14, 1935 in Clements, KS to George and Gladys (Evans) Stephenson.

Donna grew up on a farm in Clements, KS and graduated from Clements High School in 1953.&nbsp; She attended Emporia State University and Cowley County Community College. She married George Daniel McCallum and later divorced. Donna moved to Winfield, KS in 1969 and worked at the Winfield State Hospital and the Winfield Correctional Facility. Retiring after 28 years with the State of Kansas. Donna enjoyed watching sports, crocheting and reading.

Donna is survived by four children: Randy McCallum, Overland Park, KS; Steven McCallum (Vicky), St. George, KS; Suzann Smith (David), Winfield, KS; Tamra Dietrick, Silver Lake, KS: eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters: Bernice Grimmett, Eureka, KS; Linda Scott (Ronnie), Lamar, MO; and Lila Fanning (Danny), Joplin, MO.&nbsp;Donna was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Betty Walker and an infant brother Gerald Stephenson.

Graveside services will be held at the Clements Kansas Cemetery for family at a later date.

Edward Louis Augustine, 87, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, October 26 in Denver, Colorado. Rosary will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Interment will service at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1657-1699 St. Mary’s Rd., Junction City, Kansas. Ed (Eddie, Easy Ed, Sonny) was born September 22, 1935 in Port Chester, New York to Edward J. and Anne (Marciniak) Augustine. He was raised with a large family in Greenwich, Connecticut. When he was 17 he decided to leave home in pursuit of traveling to California. On his way, he stopped in Junction City to visit his Aunt Mary and Uncle Charlie Mathey, who were stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. While he was visiting, he met Darlene, and never made it to California. They were married on October 15, 1956. They were married for 50 years. Darlene passed away August 24, 2007. They raised their 3 children, Edward (Butch), Gladys, and Mike, in Junction City. Ed worked at United Telephone, and then Sprint for many years. After retirement Ed was a regular spectator at many basketball and football games that his grandsons played in, and 4H shooting sports events and musicals that his granddaughters participated in. Additionally he had season tickets to KC Chiefs games for many years. He rarely missed attending a Chiefs game in person or watching Chiefs on TV. He was a Lifetime member of NRA and Kansas State Rifle Association, also serving as a director of KSRA. He was a Kansas Hunter Education Association Instructor for 50 years, a founding member of Geary County Fish and Game, and a 62 year member of Elks. Ed is survived by his daughter Gladys Case of Camdenton, Missouri; son, Mike Augustine (Shari) of Edwardsville, Kansas.; two grandsons, Jake Case (Vanessa), Jered Case (Meghan); two granddaughters, Allison Augustine, Michaela Holley (Joey); three great grandchildren, Ava, Zander, and Ethan; two nieces Susan and Lynn; and great nephew Zachary. She was also an avid bowler, who traveled cross country for tournaments for many years. She also was a member of the Friday night Junction City Bowling League. On June 19, 1964 she married Gyorgy Nemeth, in Crosswicks, NJ, by Justice of the Peace. They renewed vows in Fridberg, Germany, for their 10 year anniversary. They were married for fifty-eight years. Kathleen also dedicated over forty-five years to her civil service career at the Staff Judge Advocate, on Fort Riley military installation in Fort Riley, KS. Kathleen is survived by her loving Husband, Gyorgy of the home; her four daughters, Falene Nemeth of Manhattan, KS, Carroll (Clay) Sesnon of Menlo Park, CA, Gorgina Nemeth of Manhattan, KS, Renee Nemeth of Manhattan, KS; three grand-daughters, Christa Nemeth-Heard, Emma Sesnon, and Adeline Sesnon; and her two sisters, Clarice Broxterman of Topeka, KS, and Ramona "Monie" Micco of Lawrence, KS.

Ollie was born December 8, 1948, in Gaffney, South Carolina the daughter of Roy Wade and Arzalea Ellison-Dawkins. Ollie served in the United States Army until her retirement. After retirement, she worked as a Civil Servant at Fort Riley for many years until she retired. On July 23, 1983, she married Joe L. Willis. He passed away October 19, 2020. Survivors include one daughter, Jasmyn L. Willis of Junction City, Kansas; one son, Kelsy Wade of Salina, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Mia Willis, Zaire Griffin, Kelsy Wade, Jr., Threi Shaun Wade-Burnett, Alexis Germann, Xzavrianna Wade and Dontavioun Wade; one sister, Sandra Davis; one brother, Logan Davis. Dr. Steven Ray “Steve” Mosier, DVM, 79,
 Hays, entered Heaven on September 11, 2022, surrounded at the time of 
his passing by family and skilled, caring HaysMed staff.&nbsp; This date fell
 on National Pet Memorial Day.

Steve was born on December 14, 1942, in
 Hoxie, the 10th child of Decker and Lela (Mowry) Mosier, arriving five 
minutes before his twin brother, Stanley Jay.&nbsp; Henceforth and ever known
 as “the twins” by Lela, Decker, and his siblings, they were promptly 
placed in a shoe box to be kept warm in the farmstead oven.&nbsp; Their 
antics would become the stuff of legend throughout their childhood and 
adult years, from a fire lit playing with matches under the bed to 
pretending to be the other brother.

Steve went to Saint Paul school in 
rural Hoxie for six years and then into town for 7th and 8th grade.&nbsp; He 
graduated from Sheridan Community High School in 1960.&nbsp; He placed third 
in state wrestling his junior year and second his senior year, holding 
the flame of Hoxie’s notable wrestling history at a time when Hoxie 
competed with all of Kansas.&nbsp; This talent would serve him later in life,
 as his daughters Karen, Kristen, Karla and Kayleen unanimously recall 
being pinned simultaneously, each under an arm or leg and with no hope 
of escape, during spontaneous family floor wrestling.&nbsp; His 
grandchildren, Ethan, Decker, Isaac, Ben, and Hannah were also met with 
his famous full and half nelsons.&nbsp;

Steve went on to Kansas State 
University and, like four brothers before him, attended the School of 
Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1966.&nbsp; On June 5, 1965, he married 
Linda Louise Ward in Manhattan.&nbsp; Following graduation, Steve and Linda 
moved to Wichita to begin veterinary practice and then on to Aurora, 
Nebraska.&nbsp; From 1967-1969, Steve served in the US Army Veterinary Corps 
and was stationed in St. James, Minnesota.&nbsp; He was responsible for 
inspection of food going to overseas military and was a Survivor’s 
Assistance Officer, personally notifying 16 families regarding their 
fallen loved ones.&nbsp; He also assisted these families in planning funeral 
services.&nbsp; Following his military service there, Steve and Linda 
returned to Wichita in 1969, and then went on to join Hays Veterinary 
Hospital, hired by Dr. &nbsp;Paul McRae, DVM in 1970, choosing Hays because 
it was in-between Linda’s parents in Manhattan and Steve’s in Hoxie.&nbsp; 
Steve became full practice owner in 1995.&nbsp; His practice was purchased by
 Dr. Mark Meier in 2020.&nbsp; Steve thought that Dr. Meier, raised in Hays, 
was the perfect owner for the clinic.

Steve spent 50 of his 57 years in the 
practice of veterinary medicine in Hays.&nbsp; He felt very privileged to be a
 part of the human-animal bond. During his time as a practicing 
veterinarian, he was president of the Kansas Veterinary Medical 
Association in 1992 and received recognition as Kansas Veterinarian of 
the Year in 2000.&nbsp; In 2005, the Mosier family received the Alumni

 Medicine.&nbsp; His favorite recognition was the Kansas Veterinary Medical 
Association Lifetime Achievement Award (2016) because it was presented 
to him by friend and colleague, Dr. John Nelson.

Steve’s daughters were all a part of 
his practice in some way while growing up, and his grandchildren 
continued this tradition.&nbsp; Whether riding along on a country call where 
Steve managed to grab a daughter and a diaper while enroute to pull a 
calf or waiting patiently at the grocery store or in the car while Steve
 visited with a client about their livestock or beloved pet, Steve made 
room for his family in his practice, and many memories surround 
experiences there.&nbsp; In the surgery suite, his daughters could be found 
observing the precision of a surgeon, and his ability to suture as 
though conducting a symphony.&nbsp;&nbsp; There were after hours cesarean 
sections, calf deliveries, x-rays and broken bones.&nbsp; The girls were 
happy to assist on night calls, as were his grandchildren.&nbsp; For 
twenty-five years, Kayleen served alongside Steve as his practice 
manager.&nbsp;&nbsp; He accomplished his service through the love and support of 
his wife, Linda, as well.

Steve enjoyed traveling with his 
family, with favorite destinations being to beaches and to the mountains
 of Estes Park.&nbsp; He also held very fond memories of a family trip to 
Scotland in 1999.

Survivors include his wife Linda of 
Hays, four daughters: Karen Nicholson and husband Blake, Kristen Hill 
and husband Christian, Karla DuBois and husband Justin, all of Estes 
Park, CO, and Kayleen Geist and husband Garrett of Hays, three brothers:
 Frank Mosier and wife Joan of Manhattan, Dr. Richard Mosier and wife 
Mary of Claremore, OK, and Dr. Larry Mosier of Sargent, NE, a sister: 
Louise Simcox of Salina, three sisters-in-law: Betty Mosier of 
Manhattan, Bunny Mosier of Cedar Rapids, NE, and Kathy Mosier of 
Wichita, five grandchildren: Blake “Decker”, Ben, and Hannah Nicholson, 
Ethan and Isaac Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, an infant son: Darren Ward Mosier, five brothers: Ben, Dr. 
Jacob, Dr. Ross, Dr. Don, and Dr. Stan Mosier, a sister: Lila Marie 
Fansher and husband Stan, a brother-in-law: Flavel Simcox, two 
sisters-in-law: Joann and Margaret Mosier, and a nephew: Craig Mosier.

conducted by the Fort Riley Funeral Detail will be on Sunday, September 
18, 2022, in the Hoxie Cemetery followed by a gathering at the family

 </figure>Dr. Steven Ray “Steve” Mosier, DVM, 79,
 Hays, entered Heaven on September 11, 2022, surrounded at the time of 
his passing by family and skilled, caring HaysMed staff.&nbsp; This date fell
 on National Pet Memorial Day.Steve was born on December 14, 1942, in
 Hoxie, the 10th child of Decker and Lela (Mowry) Mosier, arriving five 
minutes before his twin brother, Stanley Jay.&nbsp; Henceforth and ever known
 as “the twins” by Lela, Decker, and his siblings, they were promptly 
placed in a shoe box to be kept warm in the farmstead oven.&nbsp; Their 
antics would become the stuff of legend throughout their childhood and 
adult years, from a fire lit playing with matches under the bed to 
pretending to be the other brother.Steve went to Saint Paul school in 
rural Hoxie for six years and then into town for 7th and 8th grade.&nbsp; He 
graduated from Sheridan Community High School in 1960.&nbsp; He placed third 
in state wrestling his junior year and second his senior year, holding 
the flame of Hoxie’s notable wrestling history at a time when Hoxie 
competed with all of Kansas.&nbsp; This talent would serve him later in life,
 as his daughters Karen, Kristen, Karla and Kayleen unanimously recall 
being pinned simultaneously, each under an arm or leg and with no hope 
of escape, during spontaneous family floor wrestling.&nbsp; His 
grandchildren, Ethan, Decker, Isaac, Ben, and Hannah were also met with 
his famous full and half nelsons.&nbsp;Steve went on to Kansas State 
University and, like four brothers before him, attended the School of 
Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1966.&nbsp; On June 5, 1965, he married 
Linda Louise Ward in Manhattan.&nbsp; Following graduation, Steve and Linda 
moved to Wichita to begin veterinary practice and then on to Aurora, 
Nebraska.&nbsp; From 1967-1969, Steve served in the US Army Veterinary Corps 
and was stationed in St. James, Minnesota.&nbsp; He was responsible for 
inspection of food going to overseas military and was a Survivor’s 
Assistance Officer, personally notifying 16 families regarding their 
fallen loved ones.&nbsp; He also assisted these families in planning funeral 
services.&nbsp; Following his military service there, Steve and Linda 
returned to Wichita in 1969, and then went on to join Hays Veterinary 
Hospital, hired by Dr. &nbsp;Paul McRae, DVM in 1970, choosing Hays because 
it was in-between Linda’s parents in Manhattan and Steve’s in Hoxie.&nbsp; 
Steve became full practice owner in 1995.&nbsp; His practice was purchased by
 Dr. Mark Meier in 2020.&nbsp; Steve thought that Dr. Meier, raised in Hays, 
was the perfect owner for the clinic.Steve spent 50 of his 57 years in the 
practice of veterinary medicine in Hays.&nbsp; He felt very privileged to be a
 part of the human-animal bond. During his time as a practicing 
veterinarian, he was president of the Kansas Veterinary Medical 
Association in 1992 and received recognition as Kansas Veterinarian of 
the Year in 2000.&nbsp; In 2005, the Mosier family received the Alumni 
Recognition Award from the Kansas State University College of Veterinary

Dr. Steven Ray 'Steve' Mosier, DVM

Ron D. Trower, 72, Dallas, Oregon, formerly of Chapman, Kansas, passed away October 15, 2022. Ron was born in Junction City, Kansas on June 15, 1950 to Georgia (Sheek) and Ray C. Trower. He graduated from Chapman High School in 1969. After high school, he attended Salina Area Technical College and subsequently served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Ron was formerly married to Pam (Sanders). In 1991, Ron married Deb (Sheffield). Ron worked as a lineman for KCP&amp;L in Abilene, Kansas but moved to California and later Nevada where he worked for more than 30 years as a lineman for Los Angeles Power and Light, Transmission Division, Henderson Nevada. After retirement from that position, he enjoyed working with his brothers Rodney and Terry at Transformer Disposal Specialists, Inc., in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. He also worked as a truck driver for Kenneth Livingston Trucking, and Everett's Inc., both of Abilene, Kansas for several years before moving to Oregon.

Ron was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and also enjoyed quiet time with a good book. Family and friends will remember Ron as someone who was quick with a smile and a story, particularly over coffee with his brother Terry. Ron loved traveling, and exploring new places. He enjoyed the beauty that can be found outdoors, especially in places like Utah where he traveled often.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Gary, and Rodney Trower. Survivors include his brother Terry (Janet), Enterprise, Kansas; sister Joy Ferguson, Salina, Kansas; sister Gay (Michael) Tedder, Leawood, Kansas; and sister Merry (John) Whitham, Scranton, Kansas. He is also survived by his wife Deb, and sons Jeff Trower, Las Vegas, Nevada; Dallas Trower, Dallas, Oregon; 4 stepchildren, 22 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Ron also leaves behind man nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 2-4 p.m., at Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Chapman.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lois McCulley, 83 of Abilene passed away October 29, 2022 at Enterprise Estates Nursing Home. She was born February 2, 1939 in rural Abilene, the daughter of Solomon Nolan and Eunice Irene (Jahnke) Riffel. She graduated from Chapman High School and went on to trade school at Brown Mackey in Salina. On November 22, 1958 she was united in marriage to Albert U. “Mac” McCulley. He preceded her in death June 9, 2001. Lois worked for the 911 Dispatch for Dickinson County for 14 years. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in rural Abilene, Red Hat Society, Avon and the Dixie Doo’s square dancing club. She volunteered at the hospital and enjoyed working in the yard, bird watching, her cats and grandchildren.

 Lois was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Albert and brother, Nolan Riffel. She is survived by her partner, Joe Simpson; her daughters, Cinthia Pitcher of Mesa, Arizona and Ginger Schiefelbein and husband Joe of Topeka, Kansas and sons, Michael McCulley and wife Kathy of Mesa, Arizona and Todd McCulley and wife Ginger of Hope, Kansas. Seven Grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

Funeral Services for Lois will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2022 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, rural Abilene. Burial will follow at the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.&nbsp; at Danner Funeral Home.&nbsp; The family suggests memorials be given to the Hospice of Dickinson County or to the American Alzheimer’s Association. Lois McCulley

Agnes Eldora (Ellie) Morton was born on November 13, 1939, the daughter of Herman and Mary Mills, and departed this life on October 28, 2022 at Bramlage House, Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community. Ellie had the glory of being raised by her maternal grandmother, Betty Toepffer, from cradle to adulthood. She attended Manhattan public schools through to graduation in 1957.

In 1960, Ellie married the love of her life, B. Laurie Collins, and spent 12 wonderfully happy years with him until his death of a brain hemorrhage. Laurie’s mother, Ursula Collins, was an avid gardener and taught Ellie her true love of the earth. Ellie designed and planted beautiful flower gardens wherever she lived for the rest of her life.

Three years after Laurie’s death, Ellie married Richard Douglas Smith. Richard died of lung cancer in 1982. Eight years later, Ellie married Doyle W. Morton.

A life-long member of First United Methodist Church, Ellie was an active member of the church family. She supported the church in various capacities including Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class, UWF Koinonia Circle, helping in the food pantry, and serving as a Stephen Minister for many years.

Ellie worked for 36 years as a property casualty underwriter at Kansas Farm Bureau. As an avid Kansas State University football fan, she traveled with friends to many bowl games. She also cheered for the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Ellie enjoyed being part of Cloverleaf Swingers square dance club and was a long-time member of Konza Prairie Quilters Guild. An accomplished seamstress, she created many beautiful quilts for her friends and family. She was an active member of Chapter GX, P.E.O. Sisterhood, where her profound faith made her an ideal chaplain.

She is survived by her stepdaughter, Richelle Cooper (Blake), grandchildren Emily Cooper (Scott Komula), Drew Cooper (Samantha), great grandchildren Bella, Davis, and Cash Cooper, and a host of friends.

Her family is holding a celebration of life ceremony at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m.

Joseph (Joe) H. Watson, 74, of Manhattan, passed away early Sunday morning, October 30th, at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri.

Joseph (Joe) Hoit Watson was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on April 7, 1948, the son of Emma Louise (Tharp) Watson, of Port Richie, Florida, and the late Roy Julian Watson. He was united in marriage to Tongta Kookuan at Ft. Riley Chapel, and she survives of their home in Manhattan, Joe was a BS graduate of KSU in History, and he was a retired First Sergeant with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He and Tongta were members of the Blue Valley Memorial United Methodist Church in Manhattan. Joe worked as a Corrections Supervisor at Riley County Police Department. After his retirement, he became a preparer for H&amp;R Block for over 20 yrs. Joe was also active at the American Legion where he loved to play and help with playing bingo

Joseph is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Karen L. Watson, of Manhattan;

a step-son, Kittipong (Kristen) Hunnell, of Prairie Village; two brothers, Keith Watson, of Michigan; Dennis Watson, of Higginsville, Missouri; his grandson, Jace Hunnell, and granddaughter, Jilian Hunnell

Joseph (Joe) H. Watson, 74, of Manhattan, passed away early Sunday morning, October 30th, at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri.Joseph (Joe) Hoit Watson was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on April 7, 1948, the son of Emma Louise (Tharp) Watson, of Port Richie, Florida, and the late Roy Julian Watson. He was united in marriage to Tongta Kookuan at Ft. Riley Chapel, and she survives of their home in Manhattan, Joe was a BS graduate of KSU in History, and he was a retired First Sergeant with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Donna L. Linder, 66, of Herington, KS, passed away Friday, October 21st, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital, in Manhattan.

Donna Lee Linder was born in Manhattan, on January 18, 1956, the daughter of Nancy Jane (Dugan) Christner, of Herington, KS and the late Carl F. Linder. She was a graduate of Washburn Rural High School in Topeka and from Wasburn University also of Topeka. She warked at Ft. Riley for the Civil Service.

Donna is survived by her mother, Nancy Christner of Herington; two sons Jade (Amber) Linder, of Weaubleau, Missouri; Chad Griese, of Herington; four sisters, Cathy (Glen) Schwartz, of Alta Vista; Bonnie Bogard, of Champagne, IL; Carla Ann Swartz, of Alta Vista; Terri Brown, of Marion, KS. Linda Sue Maas, 75, of Alma, Kansas, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday (October 30, 2022) following a lengthy illness.

Born September 14, 1947 in Evansville, Indiana, Linda was the daughter of Phillip Leroy and Jessie Mae (Ryals) Brown.&nbsp; Growing up in a military family, her childhood was spent in numerous U. S. states and overseas in Germany.&nbsp; When she was a Sophomore in High School, her family settled down in Volland, Kansas.&nbsp; Linda graduated from Alma High School in 1966.&nbsp; While at school she met Elton T. Maas and the high school sweethearts were married on February 26, 1966.

Linda had been employed for Macy’s Department Store in Topeka, worked as a Librarian in Alma and at the Carey Hatchery in Alma. She also worked at Vanderbilt’s in Wamego, Alternative Health Care in Wamego, was a Para Educator at St. John’s Lutheran School in Alma and retired as the Assistant Curator of the Wabaunsee County Museum in 2018.

An avid reader, Linda also enjoyed solving word search puzzles, playing Solitaire and watching the Hallmark Channel.&nbsp; She will be remembered for cooking and was “famous” for her Fudge, Deviled Eggs and Christmas time sugar cookies.

Survivors include her husband, Elton; two daughers, Krisena Silva (Frank) and Nicole Savage (Michael) both of Alma; three grandchildren, Alexis Queen (David) of Manhattan, KS, Shelby De Leon (Luke) of Twentynine Palms, CA and Kyle Savage (Kylie) of Havelock, N. C.; a great grandson, baby De Leon, due in April, 2023; two sisters, Joyce Allen of Manhattan, KS and Rita Andersen of Emporia, KS; a brother in law, John Carey; and many nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her step father, George Walls; her sister, Phyllis Carey; and two brothers in law, Bill Allen and Mike Andersen.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Alma.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday morning (November 9, 2022) at 11:00 in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alma with the Reverend Robert Grimm officiating.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday evening (November 8, 2022) from 6:00 to 8:00 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alma.
