MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Riley Kugel scored 19 points, Jamichael Stillwell added 18, and UCF weathered Kansas State's comeback bid to win 82-73 on Wednesday night.

The Knights (14-2, 3-1 Big 12) shot 53% from the field and 47% from beyond the arc. Themus Fulks had 13 points (6-for-11 shooting) and dished 12 assists for his fifth game with 10 or more assists this season. Devan Cambridge chipped in with 11 points on perfect 4-for-4 shooting.

UCF narrowly won the rebound battle, 35-34, paced by seven rebounds each from Kugel and Stillwell.

A 20-6 run near the midway point of the first half put UCF up by double-figures, and they led 42-28 at halftime.

K-State cut the lead to one point in the second half, but could not pull ahead in the frame. Their last lead came with 15:24 remaining in the first.

PJ Haggerty scored 23 points (9-for-18 shooting) for the Wildcats (9-8, 0-4), and Khamari McGriff added 15 points. Nate Johnson racked up 10 assists. K-State struggled from beyond the arc, converting on just six of their 30 3-point attempts.

UCF won their second straight game, after their 11-game winning streak was snapped by Oklahoma State on Jan. 6. Kansas State has dropped four straight contests after winning four straight to end their non-conference schedule.

Kansas State: visits Oklahoma State on Saturday.

🏀Kugel's 19 points, Stillwell's 18 lift UCF over Kansas State 

MANHATTAN, Kan. –&nbsp;One of the most electrifying and dynamic players in the early 2000s, Kansas State's Terence Newman has been selected to the National Football Foundation's College Football Hall of Fame Induction Class of 2026.Newman is the seventh K-State player or coach to be selected to college football's highest honor and the fourth in the last 15 years. He joins former running back Darren Sproles (Class of 2021), linebackers Gary Spani (Class of 2002) and Mark Simoneau (Class of 2012), as well as coaches Lynn "Pappy" Waldorf (Class of 1966), Charles Bachman (Class of 1978) and Bill Snyder&nbsp;(Class of 2015).

The 2026 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be officially inducted during the 68th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on December 8, 2026, at the Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Once the 2026 Hall of Fame Class is officially inducted, only 1,129 players and 241 coaches will have been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame from the nearly 5.86 million who have played or coached the game during the past 157 years. In other words, less than two one-hundredths of a percent (.02%)&nbsp;of the individuals who have played/coached the game have earned this distinction.

Regarded as one of the most dynamic football players in school history, Newman electrified fans playing for Snyder from 1999-2002 and followed his Wildcat days with a 15-plus-year career in the NFL.

A two-time All-Big 12 selection, Newman put together an unforgettable senior season in 2002, earning Consensus All-American honors as a cornerback and returner while also earning All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors. He also won the 2002 Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation’s top defensive back.

Newman, a K-State Ring of Honor and Athletics Hall of Fame member, was also a two-time All-American while competing for K-State Track &amp; Field, winning two Big 12 Championships with a school record 6.62 in the Indoor 60-meters and 10.20 in the Outdoor 100-meters, two marks that still stand.

In 2003, Newman became the second-highest draft pick in school history as the No. 5 overall selection in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys and earned two Pro Bowl selections during his career.

 Terence Newman Elected to College Football Hall of Fame

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas finally showed what it could do with a healthy Darryn Peterson and a regular rotation Tuesday night.

The timing couldn't have been worse for second-ranked Iowa State.

After falling from the AP Top 25 following a second loss in their first three Big 12 games, the Jayhawks roared away from the stunned Cyclones the moment the ball was thrown up. Tre White hit four early 3-pointers and went on to score 19 points, Peterson contributed 16 before more cramping issues, and Kansas coasted to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/iowa-state-cyclones-kansas-jayhawks-96bf5daca216794e231c8435598e5dc0">an 84-63 victory</a>&nbsp;over previously unbeaten Iowa State.

“This is more what I envisioned,” Jayhawks coach Bill Self said. “We've got an elite player — we got an elite scorer — and even tonight, when (Peterson) went to get his own, he can do some things other guys can't do. But the thing is the other guys are good players. We don't need to defer to him. I don't know that we've found that balance yet. But tonight was the closest thing to it.”

Melvin Council Jr. added 15 points and Flory Bidunga had 10 for the Jayhawks (12-5, 2-2 Big 12), who led by 26 in the first half, had that advantage trimmed to 11 midway through the second, then answered with a 10-0 run to put the game away.

It was the kind of performance that college basketball fans have become accustomed to seeing from the Jayhawks over the years.

Much more familiar than recent losses to unranked UCF and West Virginia.

“They were extremely well-prepared, well-coached, like we knew they would be,” Iowa State coach T.J. Otzelberger said. “Extremely urgent (for Kansas) to come out and play with a tremendous spirit, which they did, so credit to them.

“That was an absolute beat-down,” Otzelberger added, “in their favor, unfortunately.”

There are a multitude of reasons for a stumbling start to the season, which had the Jayhawks in danger of their first 1-3 start to league play since the 1987-88 season. But the biggest may have been the cramping problems that had kept Peterson off the court for long stretches and kept the Jayhawks from getting into a rhythm even when he was available.

He was still massaging his calf on the bench Tuesday night, and at one point, Peterson grabbed it after going high for a dunk. But Self said the issue wasn't as serious as earlier in the year: “It was more of, ‘I’m not quite whole right now.'”

“Feeling better. It's coming back slowly to me,” Peterson said. “I was out for a while but every game is getting better. This was a great win, especially coming off the loss to West Virginia. We knew we had to come out and get a win.”

The Jayhawks clearly felt a sense of urgency. They even had a players-only meeting — Self insisted he knew nothing about it — during which they talked about their goals for the season and what it would take to get back on track.

“Just kind of reiterating the key things that we want to identify ourselves as this year,” White said, “and just internal conversations that made us more focused on what we want to do. It definitely made us more connected.”

It was evident from the opening minutes, when Kansas opened with an 11-3 run to get the crowd into the game.

By the 7-minute mark, the lead had grown to 31-14, and Otzelberger had wasted two timeouts trying to get things under control.

Kansas pushed the lead to 26 points before Iowa State mounted its only real comeback, stringing together some stops and getting some buckets to go on each side of halftime. But eventually, the Jayhawks found their stride again, and they quickly pushed the lead back over 20 points before emptying the bench in the final minutes.

What made the performance particularly impressive was the opposition: Iowa State was off to a 16-0 start, including a 23-point road win over then-No. 1 Purdue, and the Cyclones were one of two teams receiving No. 1 votes in the AP Top 25 this week.

“We looked a little spooked and panicked, and the moment got to us,” Otzelberger said. “We know how well prepared they were going to be. We know how competitive they're going to be. We know how much confidence they have, especially in this building. You can tell they've been on the practice court working, and getting ready, and they did a tremendous job.”

🏀 Peterson and KU crush previously unbeaten Iowa State

Both Manhattan High boys and girls teams traveled to Junction City for the rivalry game. It is the first of two meetings this season. Manhattan swept Junction City on Tuesday night. The girls game was a blowout, while the boys game was a nail-biter.

Girls recap – Manhattan 66, Junction City 31.

In the girls game, Manhattan won the opening tip and scored first, and never looked back. The Lady Indians cruised to victory, winning 66-31 over the Junction City Lady Jays. JCHS kept it close for most of the first quarter, trailing 20-7 after one.

Then, Manhattan junior post player Jelena Depusoir took over for the Lady Indians. She finished the game with 25 points, all of them coming either at the free throw line or within two feet of the basket, just running up and down the floor. Manhattan led 41-16 at halftime and ultimately cruised to the 66-31 victory inside the Blue Jay Event Center.

For Junction City, Laniyah Warmack and Isabel Pruitt both had seven points to lead the Lady Jays.

With the win, MHS improves to 7-2 and will now take on Topeka Hayden on Friday night. For JC, they fall to 1-7 and will host Topeka High on Friday night.

Boys recap – Manhattan 49, Junction City 48

The first quarter featured mainly two players. For Manhattan, it was Sawyer Newton, who had eight of the 11 first-quarter points. For Junction City, it was point guard Lovell Autry, who had another stellar game. At the end of the first quarter, Manhattan led 11-7. Second-quarter action continued the great defensive play, with neither team getting settled into their half-court offenses and neither team’s big guys having success inside. Manhattan led 19-17 at the break.

In the third quarter, JC was finally able to break through and explode on a scoring spree. The Blue Jays turned defense into offense, and two big three-point makes by junior Khaliel Walker gave Junction City a 36-30 lead at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth, Manhattan wasted no time responding. They quickly tied the game at 38, thanks to big man Easton Duff, who came alive in the fourth quarter. Duff and guard Vince Doering both hit clutch shot after clutch shot for MHS to give them a 47-46 lead with less than a minute to go. Junction City’s Lovell Autry kept the Blue Jays in the game.

The final 30 seconds were very interesting, to say the least. A five-second call on Autry, and then a made free throw put MHS on top 48-46 with 10.8 seconds to go. JC had the ball, but Asher Newton stole it away for Manhattan. Newton was fouled by JC's Khaliel Walker and then Newton assessed a technical foul. Newton shot two free throws for the common foul and made one of two. Lovell Autry shot both free throws for JC and hit both. The Indians led 49-48 with 2.9 seconds to go. Due to the technical foul, JC got the ball in the front court on the sideline. Autry tried throwing a lob, but it was too long and ricocheted off the backboard, and Manhattan won 49-48 in JC.

Manhattan had three players in double digits. Duff finished with 13, while Doering and Sawyer Newton both finished with 12. For Junction City, Lovell Autry finished with a game-high 25 points.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today Kauffman Stadium’s outfield wall is being moved in for the 2026 season.

This change will likely create more home runs (and robbed home runs), more extra-base hits, and more exciting action on the field – while bringing fans closer to seeing it. The decision was made by Baseball Operations for competitive reasons, including to bring The K more in line with other Major League ballparks.

Work on the project has begun, and will be complete ahead of the Royals home opener vs the Twins on Monday, March 30.

“We’ve discussed this possibility for years, and after much work by our Research &amp; Development department, believe this will be a positive change for our baseball team,” Royals Executive Vice President and General Manager J.J. Picollo said. “We wanted more consistency throughout the season, while making sure the specifics put us in the best position to succeed.”

The wall will come in 8 to 10 feet starting near each foul pole – the gaps will go from 387 feet to 379 – and taper back toward centerfield, which will remain 410 feet. The height of the wall will also change, from 10 feet tall in most places to 8 ½ feet. About 150 seats will be added in left field and about 80 new drinkrail seats in right.

The club’s research estimates the changes will take the run value of fly balls at The K from the bottom third of MLB ballparks to the middle, primarily through more extra-base hits.

Over the last three seasons, these specific changes would have benefitted the Royals overall, even accounting for more extra-base hits by opponents.

“Making this a fairer ballpark will help with roster construction, but more importantly will allow our players to keep the same approach regardless of where we play,” Royals Vice President – Research &amp; Development/Assistant GM Dr. Daniel Mack said. “Our approach was carefully considered to account for as many factors as possible. We believe this will ultimately reduce the constraints within Kauffman Stadium.”

Blue Jays win a tournament championship

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Massamba Diop scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half, Moe Odum also scored 21 and Arizona State held off Kansas State 87-84 on Saturday to snap a four-game losing streak and pick up its first Big 12 win this season.

Diop, a 7-foot-1 freshman, was 8-of-10 shooting, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked five shots. Anthony Johnson added 18 points, Santiago Trouet had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Allen Mukeba also scored 10 points for ASU (10-6, 1-2).

P.J. Haggerty, coming in seventh in the nation in scoring at 22.7 ppg, finished with 25 points, and Abdi Bashir Jr. made 6 of 12 3-point tries in finishing with 22 points for the Wildcats (9-7, 0-3), who lost their third straight.

Kansas State had a 64-58 lead midway through the second half but then went over five minutes without a field goal when ASU scored 10 straight points to begin a 18-3 run capped by Diop's dunk to lead 76-67 with less than five minutes left.

Khamari McGriff's follow with 16.6 seconds remaining got Kansas State within three. After a Johnson free throw, Haggerty banked in a long 3-pointer with five seconds remaining and the Wildcats were within a point. They quickly fouled Odum, who made both free throws. But coming out of a timeout, Haggerty was short on a half-court attempt.

ASU made only 3 of 22 3-point attempts while Kansas State hit 13 of 31. But ASU outscored the Wildcats 50-28 in the paint and made nine more free throws.

Kansas State is home against No. 25 UCF on Wednesday.

The Mountaineers (11-5, 2-1 Big 12) beat the Jayhawks (11-5, 1-2) for the third straight time, improving to 8-4 in games played in Morgantown.

Treysen Eaglestaff scored 12 points and Harlan Obioha had 11 points and 10 rebounds for West Virginia.

Freshman Darryn Peterson scored 23 points, Tre White added 18 and Melvin Council Jr. had 11 for Kansas, which lost its second straight road game.

White’s 3-pointer gave Kansas its largest lead, 59-51, before West Virginia scored 16 unanswered points to move ahead to stay. Jasper Floyd, held scoreless until that point, had seven points during the run that put the Mountaineers ahead 67-59 with 8:36 left.

Kansas got no closer than six points the rest of the game. West Virginia made 11 of 12 free throws over the final two minutes.

The Jayhawks were outrebounded 38-32 for the game and shot just 31% (9 of 29) after halftime.

🏀 Arizona remains unbeaten with win over Kansas State

The Junction City High School boys and girls basketball teams were back in action Tuesday night following Christmas break. Both teams hosted the Washburn Rural Junior Blues at Junction City School. Washburn Rural got the sweep, winning both the girls and boys varsity games.&nbsp;

Girls recap - Washburn Rural 68, Junction City 32

The Washburn Rural Junior Blues jumped out to an early lead thanks to a stellar start from #3 Ella Hirschi, who connected on her first five three-pointers. Hirschi had 16 points in the first quarter, and Washburn Rural led 23-8 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Junior Blues extended their lead , but the highlight of the half came on the last shot of the half for JCHS. Junction City sophomore Laniyah Warmack stole the ball away from Rural, and passed it to fellow sophomore Isabel Pruitt who hit a right-wing three pointer at the buzzer to end the first half. At halftime, Washburn Rural led 45-17.&nbsp;

In the second half, Washburn Rural continued their strong performance and won the game 68-32.&nbsp;

 Junction City sophomore Aniyah Henry-Rivers had a really strong performance on both ends of the floor. Henry-Rivers scored 10 second-half points along with several blocks and rebounds. Boys - Washburn Rural 50, Junction City 45

Washburn Rural won the opening tip, but Junction City scored the first basket of the game. Junior Brody Boeckman backed his way in and put the Blue Jays out to an early lead. JC led 6-2, but then Washburn Rural came alive. The Junior Blues went on a 16-2 run and led 17-8, before Junction City senior Lovell Autry hit a deep three-pointer at the buzzer to end the first quarter. Rural led 17-11 after the first quarter.&nbsp;

In the second quarter, JCHS had several opportunities to take the lead, but never did and Rural extended their lead to 26-20. The Blue Jays fought back and cut it to two once again, but Rural answered and led by four, 29-25 at the half.&nbsp;

The Washburn Rural Junior Blues started the second half on a 5-0 run, and led 34-25, which was tied for their largest lead of the game at nine. Junction City's Trevon Briley scored at the basket with 4:35 to go in the third, which was the first points JC scored in the third quarter. Defenses continued to lead the way in the third quarter with minimal scoring, and the Junior Blues led 39-33 after three quarters.&nbsp;

In fourth quarter action, Washburn again stretched their lead to nine at 42-33 with five minutes to go, but Junction City was not ready to go away. The Blue Jays buckled in defensively and forced four turnovers down the stretch, capped off by a transition three-pointer by senior Lovell Autry. JC trimmed the lead to 48-45 with 51 seconds to go. On the next possession, Rural missed a baseline floater, but a foul was called. Zach Wright went one-of-two at the foul line and the Junior Blues led 49-45 with 20.5 seconds to go. Junction City had several opportunities to cut the deficit, but the shots would not go down. Rural added one more free throw and beat Junction City 50-45 to open Centennial League play.&nbsp;

Junction City's Jaycen Lanier was named our Blu Restaurant player of the game. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Darryn Peterson scored 32 points, including three crucial free throws in regulation to the tie the game, and No. 22 Kansas erased a double-digit deficit to outlast TCU 104-100 in overtime on Tuesday night.

Kansas (11-4, 1-1 Big 12) trailed by 16 points midway through the second half, but cut the TCU lead to three with 34 seconds left in regulation.

The Jayhawks' next trip down the court was fruitless, leading to a foul and two free throws by TCU’s Liutauras Lelevicius. Kansas' Flory Bidunga cut the lead back to three on a tip in with just over six seconds remaining.

After a turnover on the ensuing TCU inbounds play, the Jayhawks got the ball to Peterson, who drew a foul beyond the arc and knocked down all three free throws to tie the game at the end of regulation.

Kansas held the lead throughout overtime and ultimately secured the game at the free-throw line, converting 9 of 11. TCU (11-4, 1-1) went 2 for 4 in the same frame. Kansas guard Melvin Council Jr. scored nine of his 18 points during overtime.

Lelevicius led the Horned Frogs with a career-high 23 points. He shot 7 for 9 and hit five 3-pointers, another career high. He entered the game averaging just 8.5 points per game and shooting 35.8% from 3-point range.

Lelevicius outscored sophomore David Punch, who recorded his 10th consecutive double-digit performance with 20 points. He also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

Tre White and Bidunga also finished in double figures for the Jayhawks, recording 22 and 16, respectively.

🏀 Kansas erases 16-point deficit, beats TCU in overtime

<a>MANHATTAN, Kan.</a>&nbsp;–&nbsp;Brian Lepak, who has had a hand in K-State’s offensive success since his arrival in 2021, will remain at Kansas State and move back to coaching the Wildcat tight ends, head coach&nbsp;Collin Klein&nbsp;announced Monday.

Lepak (pronounced luh-PACK) arrived in Manhattan in 2021 as a Senior Offensive Quality Control Coach and also tutored the Wildcat offensive line in 2025, while he spent the 2022 through 2024 seasons coaching the K-State tight ends.

“I am excited to continue to represent Kansas State University under Coach Klein’s leadership,” said Lepak. “I look forward to implementing Coach Klein’s vision and build on the tradition of this program.”

Lepak and Klein worked together on staff for three seasons, which included K-State’s 2022 Big 12 Championship campaign in 2022.

Lepak has found quick success during his first four years as a full-time coach for the Wildcats, tutoring tight end Ben Sinnott to All-Big 12 First Team accolades in both 2022 and 2023, while the Wildcats had two tight ends pick up All-Big 12 honors in 2024 in Garrett Oakley (second team) and Will Swanson (honorable mention). It was the first time since 1997 that the Wildcats had a pair of All-Big 12 tight ends in the same season, while Oakley’s second-team designation marked the first time in the Big 12 era that K-State had a first- or second-team all-conference tight end in three straight seasons.

Brian Lepak to Remain at K-State, Coach Tight Ends

Junction City native and former Kansas State Wildcat running back DJ Giddens wrapped up his rookie season on Sunday with the Indianapolis Colts. Giddens carried the ball eight times for 30 yards in a 38–30 loss to the Houston Texans.

For the season, Giddens ran the ball 26 times for 96 yards, averaging 3.69 yards per carry.

Giddens graduated from Junction City High School in the spring of 2021. He played three seasons at Kansas State before foregoing his senior year and was selected with the 151st pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Colts finished the season with a record of 8-9 and missed the playoffs.&nbsp;

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Daniel Carlson made a career-long 60-yard field goal with eight seconds left to give Las Vegas a 14-12 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and end the Raiders' 10-game losing streak.

Carlson and Kansas City's Harrison Butker each made four field goals, with Butker hitting a 41-yarder with 1:01 left to give the Chiefs a short-lived 12-11 lead.

This was the first victory for the Raiders (3-14) over the Chiefs (6-11) at Allegiant Stadium. The Chiefs, who had won all five previous meetings in Las Vegas, lost their sixth straight game and eighth in 10.

Las Vegas' Ashton Jeanty rushed for 87 yards, giving him 975 for the season that is second among Raiders rookies to the 1,150 yards Josh Jacobs gained in 2019. Jeanty's 1,321 yards from scrimmage broke the club rookie record set by Jacobs (1,316).

Much of the intrigue about the outcome was eliminated before kickoff when the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/cowboys-giants-score-jaxson-dart-d25b1d9cbb8f9ac00bd6e953924bfa93?utm_source=copy&amp;utm_medium=share">New York Giants defeated the Dallas Cowboys 34-17</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/las-vegas-raiders-nfl-draft-2026-708f08b50bcd7b519c5ba132d03cedaf?utm_source=copy&amp;utm_medium=share">guaranteeing the Raiders the top pick</a>&nbsp;in this year's NFL draft. Less certain is the future of Raiders coach Pete Carroll, who was hired about a year ago with the hopes that his championship pedigree of a Super Bowl title in Seattle and two college championships at Southern California would translate to Las Vegas. There was no immediate indication whether he would return, but the typical coach's day-after news conference was not on the club's media schedule.

This also could be have the final game for Kansas City's Travis Kelce. The 36-year-old, who became the third tight end to reach 13,000 yards in his career, has not said if he will retire after playing all 13 seasons in Kansas City.

Both teams in large ways treated the finale like a preseason game.

Whether for injuries or other reasons, the Chiefs sat wide receiver Xavier Worthy, running back Isiah Pacheco and defensive ends George Karlaftis and Tyreke Smith among others, and the Raiders had a number of players hurt that included running back Raheem Mostert, guard Dylan Parham and defensive tackle Adam Butler.

Kansas City entered the game without quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew, each out with knee injuries. The Chiefs hope to get Mahomes back by early next season in what they hope is the return to becoming more like the team that appeared in five of the previous six Super Bowls, three ending in championships.

Chris Oladokun started for the Chiefs and completed 11 of 17 passes for 58 yards before giving way to Shane Buechele in the second half. Buechele was 7 of 14 for 88 yards.

The Raiders were without quarterback Geno Smith, out with an ankle injury that also might have ended his playing days in Las Vegas after just a season. Kenny Pickett started and was replaced by Aidan O'Connell in the second quarter as expected. Pickett was just 1 of 4 for 3 yards with an interception, and O'Connell completed 10 of 22 passes for 102 yards.

Tyree Wilson had two sacks for the Raiders, including a fourth-quarter safety for an 11-6 lead. He also forced two fumbles.

Chris Jones recorded two sacks to give him 86 1/2 for third most in Chiefs history.

Themus Fulks had 16 points and Jordan Burks scored 14 for UCF (12-1, 1-0 Big 12), which is off to its best start since 14-0 in 2010-11.

Kansas (10-4, 0-1) played most of the second half without star guard Darryn Peterson, who scored 23 of his 26 points in the first half. Peterson missed the previous two games with cramps and missed seven prior games with a hamstring injury.
