MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — David N’Guessan had 21 points and eight rebounds and Kansas State defeated Colorado 65-56 on Sunday to snap a four-game losing streak.

Kansas State led by 11 points at halftime, then N'Guessan had five points in a 7-0 run that gave the Wildcats a 46-29 lead with 14 minutes remaining in the game. The Wildcats led by double digits for most of the remainder. Colorado got within eight points once and later the score was 63-54 after Sebastian Rancik hit two free throws for the Buffaloes with a minute to go.

Macaleab Rich made two free throws for K-State with 48 seconds left and Rancik's dunk with six seconds remaining finished off the scoring.

There was one tie, no lead changes, and Kansas State led for 38 1/2 minutes.

Brendan Hausen scored 11 points and Dug McDaniel had 10 points and seven assists for Kansas State (14-15, 8-10 Big 12).

Colorado (11-18, 2-16 Big 12) got 11 points from RJ Smith and 10 each from Rancik and Bangot Dak.

The Wildcats took an early 12-2 lead, thanks to a 10-0 run in which Colorado committed three shooting fouls, good for five made K-State free throws. The Wildcats built a 33-17 lead with two minutes left in the half before Colorado scored the last five to trail 33-22 at the break.

It was the first meeting between the two teams since Colorado left the Big 12 after the 2001 season.

With two games left in the regular season, Kansas State is tied for ninth place and Colorado is last.

The Wildcats visit Cincinnati on Wednesday and finish at home against Iowa State on Saturday.

The Red Raiders used a 16-2 run early in the half to turn a six-point deficit into an eight-point lead. They led 48-37 at halftime.

Texas Tech: The Red Raiders were not intimidated by Allen Fieldhouse and the raucous crowd. Despite being 1-21 all-time in the facility, the Raiders responded every time the Jayhawks made a run.

Kansas: The Jayhawks lacked a killer instinct. Even though they clawed back into the game multiple times, they couldn't pull away.

After Kansas came all the way back to tie the game at 73-all, Williams hit a 3-pointer to give the Red Raiders the lead for good.

Texas Tech outscored Kansas 45-12 from 3-point range.

Texas Tech will host Colorado on Wednesday night, while Kansas visits No. 4 Houston on Monday night.

Trump posted on Truth Social on Friday night to say Rose, who&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/pete-rose-obituary-reds-e0f3dfa057fc46629447e04b6540e4c8">died in September</a>&nbsp;at 83, “shouldn’t have been gambling on baseball, but only bet on HIS TEAM WINNING.”

Trump did not specifically mention Rose’s tax evasion case in which Rose pleaded guilty in 1990 and served a five-month prison sentence.

The president said he would sign a pardon for Rose “over the next few weeks.”

MLB handed Rose a lifetime ban in 1989 after an investigation determined he had bet on baseball games, including some involving his own Cincinnati Reds.

In a must-win game for the Junction City Lady Jays, they played like it early. The first quarter was back-and-forth, with JC leading 12-11 with 1:45 to play in the first. Emporia went on a run to end the quarter and led 16-12 after one. 

Despite the Lady Jays' strong start their offense was stale the rest of the night. Emporia began flexing its muscles in the second quarter and led 26-15 at the half. 

In the third quarter, neither team scored much, combining for eight points, but the Lady Spartans led by 15. In the fourth quarter, things got out of hand, and Emporia pulled away, winning 45-20. 

Junction City finishes the regular season 1-19, with their only win from December over Lawrence Free State. The Lady Jays finished 17th in 6A West and did not make it into the Sub State bracket. 

The first matchup between the Blue Jays and Spartans was an overtime thriller. Friday night's matchup started very similar, but this time a defensive battle, tied at six at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was much of the same, with neither team taking care of the basketball, and both teams stingy on defense. Junction City led 14-12 at halftime. 

In the second half, shots for the Blue Jays began to fall, as they scored 15 points in the third quarter, compared to just 14 in the first two quarters combined. JC led 29-22 at the end of three. The Emporia Spartans began the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run, and cut the deficit to two, at 31-29. Junction City pulled away late, hitting free throws and continuing their strong defensive performance. The Blue Jays won 46-32 and swept Emporia on the season. 

Junction City finished the regular season 13-7, and second in the Centennial League. The Blue Jays will host the first round of Sub State on Tuesday night at Blue Jay Event Center. 

The official bracket will be released by KSHSAA later this weekend.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Keyshawn Hall scored 26 points and Darius Garland scored 23 points and UCF held on to beat Kansas State 80-76 on Wednesday night.

Moustapha Thaim just missed the most rare of triple-doubles scoring 11 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and blocking eight shots. It was the second straight win for the Knights (15-13, 6-11 Big 12) following a seven-game losing streak.

Max Jones scored 22 points, reserve C.J. Jones scored 12 points, Brendan Hausen 11 and Dug McDaniel 10 for Kansas State (13-15, 7-10). The Wildcats now have lost four straight following a six-game win streak.

Hausen made a deep 3-pointer and then was fouled getting poked in the eye by UCF's Mikey Williams with 14 seconds to go. Hausen made the free throw to reduce the the Wildcats' deficit to 78-76. Hall sealed it with a pair of free throws with 11 seconds remaining. Hausen missed a deep 3 attempt on Kansas State's next possession.

Benny Williams' layup with 5:48 remaining put the Knights ahead 69-58 before the Wildcats countered with a 7-0 run over the next 1:30 to draw within 69-65.

UCF led for most of the first half until McDaniel's layup gave the Wildcats a 29-28 lead with 5:51 before halftime. UCF closed the first half with a 10-0 run and led 41-34.

The Wildcats host Colorado on Sunday. UCF travels to TCU on Saturday.

🏀 Hall, Garland lead UCF past Kansas State

Despite playing in class 4A, the Topeka Hayden Lady Wildcats are a top team in the state of Kansas. The Lady Wildcats beat the Junction City Lady Jays 76-23 Tuesday night in Topeka.

Hayden held Junction City scoreless in the first quarter and led 25-0 at the end of one. The Lady Wildcats extended their lead before the half, but in the second quarter, the Lady Jays got on the board, knocking in three three-pointers. Hayden led at the half 41-9.

In the third quarter, both teams caught fire shooting the ball, but Hayden just continued growing their lead to 69-20 at the end of three. In the fourth quarter, it was a running clock, and the Lady Wildcats won the game 76-23.

Following the game, Hayden celebrated being the Centennial League champions with a 9-1 record in league play. The Lady Wildcats are 17-2 on the season.

Junction City falls to 1-18 with the loss and has their regular season finale on Friday night at Emporia High.

Nate Kaczor&nbsp;is now the program’s special teams coordinator and special assistant to the head coach,&nbsp;Matt Kardulis&nbsp;is the assistant safeties coach,&nbsp;Sean Maguire&nbsp;is the assistant quarterbacks coach and&nbsp;David Orloff&nbsp;is the outside linebackers coach.

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Hunter Dickinson scored a season-high 32 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to help Kansas defeat Colorado 71-64 on Monday night.

Blue Jays compete at Regional Wrestling

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Jayden Quaintance scored 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and Shawn Phillips Jr. added 10 points and a career-best 11 rebounds on Sunday to help Arizona State beat Kansas State 66-54 and snap a six-game losing streak.

Quaintance, who went into the game 4 of 28 from behind the arc this season, made 2-of-4 3-pointers.

The Sun Devils (13-14, 4-12 Big 12) had lost 11 of their last 13.

Alston Mason hit a 3-pointer about 90 seconds into the game to give Arizona State the lead for good and sparked a 10-2 run that made it 12-6.

Dug McDaniel made a jumper that cut Kansas State's deficit to two points midway through the first half but ASU scored 15 of the next 20 points to make it 31-19 with 3:34 left before halftime.

The Sun Devils took a 34-28 lead into the intermission and scored 11 of the first 13 second-half points to make it 45-30 less than six minutes in and Kansas State (13-14, 7-9) trailed by at least nine the rest of the way.

David N’Guessan led the Wildcats with 20 points and 10 rebounds. McDaniel and Max Jones each scored four points on 4-of-23 shooting between them. The duo went into the game averaging a combined 23.3 points in conference play.

Kansas State, which has lost three in a row following a six-game win streak, shot a season-low 33% (22 of 66) from the field.

Amier Ali scored 11 points and Mason finished with eight assists and seven points for the Sun Devils.

In the second half, Manhattan took off and extended their lead to over 30 points, which led to a running clock in the fourth quarter. Manhattan beat the Lady Jays 68-27. The Lady Indians swept JC on the season. 

Manhattan was led in scoring by Kat Ball, with 15 points. Junction City was led by freshman Isabel Pruitt, who scored 21. 

Manhattan improves to 12-6 on the season and will host Emporia on Tuesday night. 

Junction City falls to 1-17 and will play at Topeka Hayden on Tuesday. 

The first meeting in mid-January was down to the wire, and Friday night's game between the two rivals was the same. Junction City once again edged out a victory and beat Manhattan 53-47.

Manhattan girls win big, JC boys rally late to win on senior night

BOSTON (AP) — When they played “O Canada” for the second time, there were no American fans left in the arena to boo.

Instead, the Canadian team stood at the blue line, arm in arm, player and coach, wearing their championship hats while the maple leaf flag was lowered behind the 4 Nations Face-Off trophy and the national anthem reverberated across the Americans' home ice. The fans who remained, many of them in their red Team Canada jerseys, sang along.

Connor McDavid scored at 8:18 of overtime to give Canada a 3-2 victory over the United States on Thursday night as the North American rivals turned what had been a tune-up for the 2026 Olympics into a geopolitical brawl over anthems and annexation as much as international hockey supremacy.

Or, to put it another way: It was the 51st U.S. state 3, Canada’s 11th province 2.

“You can’t take our country — and you can’t take our game,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted on X in a cross-border callback to President Donald Trump's chatter about turning one of the United States' closest allies into the 51st state.

”A lot of stuff going on with Canada and the USA right now, and us playing against each other was kind of a perfect storm for our sport," said Nathan MacKinnon, who was selected the MVP of the new tournament with four goals in four games. “It was much more popular than even we would have imagined. It was getting so much attention from our whole continent.”

Jordan Binnington stopped 31 shots — including the last 20 in a row — on the same ice where he helped the St. Louis Blues win the Stanley Cup as a rookie five years ago. MacKinnon and Sam Bennett also scored for Canada, which made it 2-2 in the second period and then played a scoreless third.

After a flurry of saves by Binnington early in the overtime, Canada gained a faceoff in the U.S. zone and Mitch Marner got the puck along the boards before popping it into the center to McDavid for the winner. The Canadians poured over the boards to celebrate, shook hands with the vanquished Americans, and then took turns skating with the never-before-awarded trophy.

“Just to see the reaction. Just to know what it means to us. I know it’s just a quick tournament, and it’s not an Olympic gold medal or anything like that, but it means the world to our group, as you can see,” McDavid said.

“I hope (the new fans) love it,” he said. “It’s a great game, it’s a great sport and I hope we put on a good show these last couple days and gained some fans, ultimately. You can’t ask for a better show than that.”

Brady Tkachuk and Jake Sanderson scored for the Americans, and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 22 shots in regulation and three more in OT. The U.S. has lost all but one game against Canada in best-on-best international play dating to the preliminaries of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics; the lone victory was in the 4 Nations round-robin, a game so good it turned Thursday's sequel into one of the most anticipated international hockey events in decades.

“I think guys that are at home watching this, I’m hoping they’re wanting a piece of it," U.S. forward Dylan Larkin said. "This grew the game really well, but I hope it pushes guys to want a piece of this and then the next generation that got to watch this, they’re going to watch the Olympics next year and hopefully there’s a different outcome.”

The already ripe rivalry between the two North American hockey powers took on an added intensity during the tournament following Trump’s tariff threats and talk of making Canada the 51st U.S. state. Trump called the American team Thursday morning to wish it well, then turned to Truth Social to take a poke at “Governor Trudeau.”

The political backdrop combined with the quality of the round-robin game, which the United States won 3-1 on Saturday, to bring the atmosphere of a Stanley Cup Final or Olympic gold medal game to the TD Garden.

Fans in their team jerseys waved flags, shouted for their countrymen and continued the ritual booing of the opposing national anthem that has become an nightly undercard for a tournament that returned the NHL's stars to the international scene after missing the last two Winter Games.

The pregame hype video was a callback to the 1980 Olympics, when the undermanned U.S. team upset the powerful Soviet machine in the midst of the Cold War. “Miracle on Ice” Olympic hero and honorary U.S. captain Mike Eruzione wore a Johnny Gaudreau jersey to honor the memory of former Boston College and Calgary Flames star who was killed by a drunk driver while bicycling in New Jersey at his sister’s wedding last summer.

The American fans chanted “Johnny Hockey!” to spur their team on, and broke into frequent cheers of “U-S-A! U-S-A!” — just like in Lake Placid.

But this time it was the team in red that came away with the win.

The Jayhawks have not led through their last 80 minutes of basketball after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-utah-basketball-score-2920c07f0583abda508becce4bb8fea0">also falling to Utah 74-67</a>&nbsp;on Saturday. They have lost four of six games since the start of February.
