The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a Fire Weather Watch for potential extreme fire danger, which is in effect from Thursday morning through Thursday afternoon.
The affected area covers Clay, Riley, Ottawa, Dickinson, Geary, Morris, Wabaunseee and Lyon counties.
Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 to 50 mph are in the forecast. Relative humidity is forecast as low as 20 percent.
Any fire that develops will have the potential to catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning will not be recommended
