Jack Lloyd Mace

Jack Lloyd Mace, 77, of Hutchinson, died October 12, 2022, at Hospice House. He was born November 26, 1944, in Sterling, to Lloyd Valentine and Violet Sophia (Wibbeler) Mace.

Jack graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1962. He then attended Bethel College, and Mennonite Biblical Seminary earning his master’s degree. Jack worked as a draftsman, photographer, and several construction companies. However, his favorite job was being a substitute teacher for local school districts.

Jack was an artist, he enjoyed making paintings, drawings, and woodwork. His biggest passion was helping people, especially those facing adversity. Jack helped start Interfaith Housing and Community Services, in Hutchinson, and with special education classes at Hutchinson High School. Jack never knew a stranger and was quite the jokester, he enjoyed cracking jokes with the staff caring for him during his final days.

Jack was a loving husband, father and a very active member of First Mennonite Church, in Hutchinson.

On June 14, 1964, he married the love of his life, Deanna Klaassen at Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge.

Jack is survived by: his wife, Deanna Mace of Hutchinson; sons, Brandon Mace of Wichita, and Brian Mace of Arlington, TX; brothers, Eugene (Sally) Mace of Peoria, IL, and Glenn (Marilee) Mace of Sterling; sister, Wanda Hart of Norman, OK; and a sister-in-law, Andrea Mace of Junction City.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Naomi Phinney; brothers, Alvin Mace and his wife Martha, and Ron Mace.  

Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at First Mennonite Church, 52 Rambler Rd, Hutchinson, with Pastor, Tonya Wenger officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the church after inurnment. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Mennonite Church, Hutchinson, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson KS, 67501.
