Geary County Emergency Management Director Garry Berges said Tuesday that the county health department has received its first shipment of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine from the state. In accordance with state and federal direction they are working with Geary County EMS to provide vaccination to their personnel and the staff who are direct patient contacts at the Health Department.  Immunizations will then be offered to other health care personnel in the community.

A limited supply of vaccine has been received and as more becomes available the county will offer immunizations according to a Vaccine Plan, explained Berges. "We're just trying to update the public when it's available. Right now it's available just for the healthcare people, long-term care facilities for the residents and the staff and that type of people right now."

A Pfizer allocation is going to the pharmacy Partnership for Long-term Care Program to provide vaccines to long-term care residents and staff. This program is coordinated between the federal government and CVS/Walgreens to provide long-term care facilities with immunizations.
