Buck Albert Lockwood

Buck Albert Lockwood, 61, of Wamego, Kansas died Sunday, August 9, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.  He was a long time resident of Wamego.

Buck was born in Arcata, California on February 5, 1959 the youngest son of Newton Emmett and Betty Sue (Crandall) Lockwood.

In the early 1980’s Buck lived in Burlington, Kansas while working at the Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant.  After Wolf Creek was finished he moved to Iowa to help build Duane Arnold Energy Center.  After that was completed he and his family settled back in the Wamego area where he worked at Balderson/Caterpillar in the warehouse as a forklift operator for many years.  He most recently worked at Florence Corporation until he retired due to health in 2015.

Buck was always a hard worker; he would work any shift and overtime hours that he was asked.  He loved his family, and if he knew you, you were family.  He had a genuine interest in what people were up to and was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He had a heart of gold, even when he didn’t have much for himself.  He loved to play pool, mostly 8-ball, he was in several pool leagues and then when he discovered virtual pool he would play with anyone online.  He loved to play his guitars 6 or 12 string. He was always happiest when he was able to jam with his family or friends.  He loved southern rock and country music and he especially had a passion for Lynyrd Skynryd. 

Buck married Dixie Stanfill on July 4, 1980; they were later divorced.  He then married Denise Miller in 1983; they were later divorced.  He then married Donna Smith in 1995; they were later divorced.

Buck is survived by his mother, Betty Lockwood, Del City, Oklahoma, his children, Jennifer (Derek) Woods, St. George, Kansas, Robert (Tiffany) Lockwood, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Traci Lockwood, Wamego, Kansas, Cheryle (Casey Shows) Lockwood, West Monroe, Louisiana, and Dionna Lankard, Manhattan, Kansas; his grandchildren Seanna (Jacob Barrett) Fisher, Tyler and Jostin Woods, Cecil, Keegan, Lathan Lockwood, Amelia Spillers, Christian Kronenburg, and Alayna Flescher; his siblings, Newton Lockwood, Ceres, California, Sue (David) Bruckner, Grove, Oklahoma, Ellen (Mike) Morgan, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Diana Lockwood, Del City, Oklahoma; his best friend, Mike Stuewe, Alma, Kansas and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Newton Lockwood, a stillborn son, Joshua Dean Lockwood and a sister-in-law Mary Jane Lockwood.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego, Kansas.  Family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment will follow at the Wamego City Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Campanella-Evans Mortuary to be used for funeral expenses.
