Junction City Lady Jays competed in the Centennial League tennis tournament on Monday. Players were all put into a one combined bracket for singles or doubles.
The Lady Jays had were led by the doubles team of Stephanie Stanislow and Grace Harris. The doubles team played in multiple close matches to earn 7th place. In the first round they defeated a team from Emporia in a tiebreaker 9-8 (0). In their second round they lost to the eventual champion from Washburn Rural 9-2. In the next round they lost in a third set super-tiebreaker after winning the first set. In their final round they played another thrilling match defeating the other Emporia doubles team 7-6 (6), 5-7 and 10-6 in super-tiebreaker to decide the match and clinch 7th place.
The singles players of Rachel and Julia Cho finished 10th and 11th place. Ohemaa Sarpong and Rebecca Monroe finished in 12th place.
The Lady Jays tennis team next travels to Topeka on Friday, October 7 for the 6A Regional Tennis Tournament. Matches will be played at the Kossover Tennis Center and begin at 10 am.
