Junction City and Geary County Public Works personnel have been working to clear roads covered with snow. Ray Ibarra, Junction City Public Works Director, said the roads have been drifting over which has caused crews to have to repeat their work over and over.
Ibarra noted city crews have focused on arterial and collector streets. "It's more snow than we've ever had for a long time." He estimated more than a foot of snow has fallen. Crews began working at 1 p.m. Saturday with about six employees per shift.
County Public Works Director Jeremie Myers confirmed county crews worked through the day and evening Saturday, all day on Sunday and will resume at 5 a.m. Monday. Six trucks worked on asphalt roads while 4-5 road grades were put into use on gravel roads.
Myers noted, "It's been a rough one."
