Geary County Commissioners were informed Monday by Sheriff Eric Coffman that there were 97 inmates in the Geary County Detention Center. The average runs about 100.
There is a challenge in finding corrections officers. The Department is about 20 short but patrol is full. Commissioner Alex Tyson noted that the County needs to figure out a way to address it. Coffman added it's hard to compete with surrounding jails that are newer facilities.
The jail medical contract with ACH is high. Most counties across the state use them but there may be other options out there. There will be an effort to figure something out on that issue.
Coffman also indicated that he would like to meet with the governing body more often, perhaps twice a month.
