The transient guest tax received brief discussion at the Geary County Commission meeting on Monday but no final action was taken.
One week ago the governing body was informed that the Convention & Visitors Bureau Advisory Committee had recommended a two percent increase which would have raised the total tax to eight percent. Since then the commission has learned there was never any recommendation from that board.
CVB Director Donna Price will be asked to take the issue back to the CVB Advisory Committee for input. The issue could then return to the county commission in the future.
Commission Chair Trish Giordano explained Monday that she does not want the tax in Geary County to be higher than the transient guest tax in Manhattan, which totals 7.5 percent.
The transient guest tax is paid by users of lodging facilities.
