Cell phone usage in schools is an issue on the horizon for legislators

Many districts have already gone to not allowing cell phones in the middle and high school levels of education. Now there will be a bill going before Kansas House members addressing the topic, explained State Representative Nate Butler. "This will make legislation pass through that will force them to make sure that there's no cell phones in middle schools and high schools." Butler added, of course, that there would be a lot of requirements on when students could and could not have cell phones. Butler will be one of the sponsors of the bill.

The 2026 legislative session begins next week.

Other issues that are expected to receive discussion will range from redistricting to a reduction in property taxes. Ninety days are set aside for the session.

Butler represents the 68th District in the Kansas House.
