Geary County Commission Chair Alex Tyson said Monday that the governing body is "back at square one trying to bring somebody in" when it comes to the search for a county financial coordinator. During the past year the county has been unable to fill what would be a brand new position.
Tyson explained that the process has educated him. 'It's really a unique position." Referring to work done by the county clerk and treasurer's staffs with the financials of the county, Tyson noted that he didn't want people to think that there's doubts in his mind. "For me I want somebody to be able to work and jell with them, but also think almost like a day to day business mentality. Again I'm not saying they don't do that. This person would help bridge the gap for new commissioners like myself."
There is no new hire imminent at this point.
Tyson noted compensation is always going to be the draw for a job. "We had two really great candidates. When you're competing with Johnson County for a person it's tough to be able to give that compensation like they can, especially with their budget."
