Geary County officials are searching for solutions to sewer blockage at the Sheriff's Department administrative offices which are located one floor below jail cells. Officials point to inmates stuffing items into toilets, resulting in backups. Current piping is old and small, so one suggestion is to move forward with larger piping if it is determined to be feasible.
Some staff have been relocated to the 10th Street warehouse and others to a lower level area of the Department's main building.
There were sewer blockage problems seven times in July.
The county commission has directed their chair, Trish Giordano, to move forward with the necessary costs to fix the problem.
