Junction City Manager Kim Zimmerman told a Veterans Day gathering at the C.L. Hoover Opera House that the different branches of the military cannot function without one another. Zimmerman spent 24 years in the Army.
Remembering his deployment to Iraq in 2007-2008 he said, "It's a real honor to have served."He also noted, "that the mission of the military is to protect and save lives, save our freedom."
Zimmerman provided details on how the brigade in which he was a member worked to maintain law and order, and achieved substantial progress in reducing the number of both direct and indirect fire losses among the population in that part of Iraq.

The Geary County Veterans Alliance hosted the ceremony.
Zimmerman also noted that serving in the military was an honor. "Being a veteran is an honor and something not everybody can do."
