
The Geary County K-State Extension Office is once again offering a Stay Strong, Stay Healthy strength training program for older adults beginning August 20 at the 4-H/Senior Center in Junction City. The eight-week program is designed to help older adults improve their quality of life, increase strength, and enhance overall wellness through safe and effective strength training.
Participants will meet twice per week from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with sessions led by a trained instructor. The class will meet on the following dates:
Class Dates:
- August: 20, 22, 25, 29
- September: 3, 5, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 26, 29
- October: 1, 6, 8
The program consists of warm-up exercises, eight strengthening movements, and cool-down stretches.
This strength training program is ideal for older adults who want to:
- Increase muscle strength
- Improve balance and flexibility
- Strengthen bones
- Relieve arthritis
- Help control weight
- Reduce the risk of heart disease
- Boost overall mood and reduce depression
Classes are held in a safe, familiar setting and are accessible to people of all fitness levels. No special attire is needed—just comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes. Participants are asked to bring water and a towel to each session.
The registration fee is $25, which covers all 16 instructor-led classes.
