JUNCTION CITY, KS - The Junction City Pet Pantry has officially reopened its doors to serve the community once again, thanks to a partnership between Common Scents Dog Training and animal welfare advocate Takara Hawkins.

Originally founded and operated by Takara Hawkins, the Junction City Pet Pantry provided essential pet food and supplies to local families and individuals in need. What began as a small operation at Hawkins’ home grew into a second location at the Junction City Animal Shelter, both of which served countless pets and their owners before closing.

“I opened our pet pantry during COVID because even in the hardest times, our animals deserve to stay fed and families deserve support. Our community may be tiny, but we are mighty, and when we come together, no pet is left behind.” Hawkins said.

With the recent government shutdown and the unique challenges faced by the military community, the need for accessible pet care support has grown. The reopening of the pantry comes at a critical time, as the community has also seen an increase in stray and possibly abandoned pets.

“Takara is the heart of this project,” said Emily Reid from Common Scents Dog Training. “Her compassion and dedication to helping animals and people alike have made a lasting impact in Junction City. We’re honored to continue her vision and provide a space for the pantry to thrive again so that pets can stay in their homes and families stay together.”

The Junction City Pet Pantry provides dog food, cat food, cat litter, and even reptile food, with accommodations available for special species or dietary requests by messaging in advance.

Hours of Operation:

  1. Monday through Friday: 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
  2. Sunday: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  3. Additional hours available by appointment

The pantry is located inside the Common Scents Dog Training facility at 550 Grant Ave, Suite A, Junction City, KS.

Community members, donors, and volunteers are encouraged to get involved to help sustain this vital resource for local pets and their families.
