RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for alleged sex assault.
On Sunday, police took 40-year-old Brandon Cameron of Manhattan into custody following a report he allegedly broke into a home and committed a sexual assault Saturday night, according to a media release from the Riley County Police Department.
Just before midnight Saturday, the Riley County Communications Center received a 911 call from a 26-year-old woman reporting a burglary in the 1300 block of Flint Hills Place in Manhattan.
Officers discovered a sexual assault had taken place during the burglary. After further investigation and assistance from the victim, Cameron was subsequently identified as the suspect.
At 4:30a.m. Sunday, police located him in the 2700 block of N. Brookglen Circle in Manhattan on requested charges of aggravated burglary and rape. He remains confined in the Riley County Jail with a total bond of $200,000. He has previous convictions for theft and burglary, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
