Washington Street in downtown Junction City was the place to be on Saturday morning as the Junction City Main Street Market brought in a Longhorn cattle drive.
The cattle drive featured 18 Longhorn cattle from Slash-O-Ranch in Oklahoma, Fort Riley’s Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard, and Rebecca Thornton, Miss Rodeo Kansas.

“It has been a great day,” Junction City Mayor Terry Butler said. “This cattle drive is just a sight that we don’t usually see in Junction City, Kansas.”
Butler coordinated the cattle drive and is the president of the board for Junction City Main Street.
“I’ve enjoyed the crowd that’s here, all the interactions going on, and just the appreciation of God’s creation.”
Following the cattle drive, Fort Riley’s Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard stopped at the market for a meet-and-greet. In addition to Fort Riley’s Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard, several vendors were also set up at the market at 901 North Washington Street.
