The Junction City Brigade are preparing to begin their pursuit of another Cowdin Cup championship in the Mid Plains League. The Brigade have won seven titles in the first 10 years of the league's existence.
General Manager Cecil Aska said players will begin arriving in Junction City in the May 27th - 28th time frame. The first game will be May 30th against the Topeka War Hawks at Hummer Sports Park in the capitol city. The home opener will be the next night, May 31st at Rathert Field.
Aska said the new head coach for the Brigade will be Chandler Bloomer. The team will play 38 regular season games plus playoff contests. All of the teams in the conference will advance into the playoffs. Teams in the league will include the Brigade and War Hawks plus Baldwin City, Midwest A's and Kansas City Monarchs. The All Star game is scheduled in Junction City on July 2o. There will also be a number of non-league contests for Junction City against opponents such as the Hays Larks, Kansas City Knights and the Great Bend Bat Cats.
For the players three new host families are still needed. Call Raquel Cinco at (323) 270-5497 or go to [email protected].
There will be a new concession building at Rathert Field, food vendors, hot dogs and hamburgers and there will be a few $1 hot dog nights.
Aska said that approximately 20 staff members will work for the Brigade this summer. Game tickets at Rathert Field will cost $5 for adults, $3 for high school and college students, while 5 and under children will be admitted free. There will also be a few special promotion nights at the ballpark including fireworks displays and a wellness night. In-game promotions will range from the dizzy bat race to a new one, the burrito roll.
