Missing boy in Geary County has died

UPDATE:

The Geary County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the death of a missing boy, who had been reported to be a non-verbal individual with autism,  who was reported missing Friday and was found early Saturday afternoon. The child was transported to the Stormont Vail Health - Flint Hills campus where he was pronounced deceased.

The Sheriff's officce offered condolences to the family, and expresssed gratitude to the many agencies, first reponders, volunteers and community members who dedicated their time and resources to the search effort.

They said out of respect for the family and the ongoing investigation no additional information would be released at this time.

Authorities have confirmed that Axel has been found.The Geary County Sheriff's Department said, " At this time, we will not be releasing any information about his condition. We will provide more information at a later time. Thank you for all agencies involved as well as the community coming together to assist. No further assistance is needed."

The Riley County Police Department will be assisting with the search of missing 4-year-old Axel in Geary County.

Geary County Sheriff's Department:

We still are searching for Axel and are asking for another waves of volunteers to come down at 4:00 PM. Briefing will be at 1952 Swenson Rd. The easiest way to come in off of Stahl Road down to Cuttoff Road from the east.

Please park on one side of the road.

Wear appropriate clothing and shoes as it is muddy, wet and we'll be searching in wooden areas.

Bring fluids as it is humid outside and the heat will continue to rise. There is also a chance of weather this afternoon. We are working with other agencies and utilizing resources every way we can to search for Axel. We appreciate everyone's suggestions and continued support. We are putting all of our efforts in to finding him. Please DO NOT share anything about him being found unless it comes directly from us or the family

Authorities and volunteers are currently looking for a missing 4 year old child in the 1900 block of Swenson Rd. If you are trying to assist in the search please check in at 1952 Swenson Rd. before you start your search.

According to Emergency Management there were more than 300 people searching Friday night, and as of 11 a.m. Saturday 256 who were searching including law enforcement and volunteers.
